There are so many folks who AREN'T stuck in the mud but the folks who ARE usually are loud about it. And so it felt good to vent that out :D I'm NOT a professional or in school for classics/ancient history, so sometimes I get worried as the last thing I want to do is disrespect and/or screw up in that.

I've been told that I "woobify" when I'm definitely not trying to (at least in matters where there's nothing to woob. lol stuff gets dark ofc) and I...don't know if I do?? At least nothing TOO crazy. Favorite heist books?

I'm realizing now that I haven't read any of the pure crime fiction books which would be the literary equivalent of the heist movies I love so much, maybe because of my inability to gracefully handle the stress of true thrillers (as I was just saying to sunkentowers). I have read a few especially quality fantasy/sci-fi heists, though! In very loosely most-to-least-strongly-recommended order:

The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes (first of the Rogues of the Republic series. it was a challenge for me to pick a favorite of them, but I think probably this is the one. very funny, very clever, love the characters)

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (intense and with especially good characters. the sequel Crooked Kingdom is also good but not quite as heist-y)

River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey (hippo-cowboy alternate history! explosive hippo river heist! it does have a sequel but I haven't ever read it)

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner (my favorite of the Queen's Thief series, though they're all good in their own ways. the main character is sort of in a constant state of con and/or heist behavior)

Artemis by Andy Weir (standalone sci-fi heist! how odd that this is the only standalone novel in my list)

The Heist by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg (romantic comedy suspense thing! first in the Fox and O'Hare series, and the only one I've read)

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (easily the best of the series by the same name, and honestly the only one I'd really recommend reading. clever worldbuilding and writing, and the twist is lovely)

Skin Game by Jim Butcher (part of the Dresden Files series and it was such a surprise to me when I found out this one--fifteenth in the series!--was going to break with format and be so heist-centered. I don't think it works as a standalone and I wouldn't necessarily recommend the series as a whole, certainly not if what you're looking for is crime capers, but I enjoyed it so so much and couldn't leave it off)

I was not really thinking about the Ghost fandom with this. I think it's actually a very great fandom to be in because it doesn't rely on the "new season every two years" hype as much (even though the tiktok-ification hit it too). I can imagine it'll change a lot for... other reasons ehem... and there will always be quiet and busy times for fandoms. Generally speaking the Ghost fandom has been the most supportive I've ever been in and I love it here! :)

But to elaborate on the post, before Ghost I wrote like three longer stories for two big Netflix shows (more like rushed them out in an intense brainrot moment) and it's very noticeable now a year later that once the hype after a season drop ebbs away there is hardly any interest in fics anymore (based on Ao3 interaction).

I'm not complaining at all, I am super super lucky to have such amazing support especially here in the Ghost community but it's just sad to see that if you join a fandom "late" you hardly find those strong tight-knit communities any more that you stumbled into like ten years ago. Ghost is a wonderful exception to that I think ♡

And I keep thinking about Swayer being on tour with his band when he gets sick, of course Chloe is worried about him because he sounds miserable so she drives out to see him as she can’t bare the thought of him sick and alone.

Nathan in Chapter 27 of CYE is almost word for word me, and that’s somehow relieving yet devastating. I’ve read it just maybe three or four times (which is very low, considering I just have CYE open on my phone so I can read through it literally every time I have a free second. I skip most of the sadder bits because I’m fragile <3333) and every time, I have to take a while to let it pull me apart and put me back together. I’ve truly never been so in love with another book before, and I just want to stitch it into my soul and have it forever.

I hope you keep taking care reading some of those heavier bits. It can be cathartic but yeah, there's definitely a time and a place and a headspace to be in before re-diving into the more heavier topics, even if they are relatable. It's just good that you know your limits, so definitely don't feel bad for skipping the sadder bits whenever you feel like you should!

I know some parts of the story are not 'fun' or easy to work through, but I'm really glad you've found any sort of relief or comfort in there. Hearing that always makes me feel so...

the greyllery kiss did indeed win the poll about the best puentalay kiss, which i have to admit i did kinda expect and it was nice to see it confirmed!!!! the reason i believed it would win (and why i think it did) is because, both narratively and emotionally, this kiss is just an extremely satisfying one. like i mentioned probably way too many times before, the greyllery kiss was constructed to parallel the greenhouse one, so when you watch it, it does feel like it closes a cycle: if in the first four episodes of the show you can see puen falling in love with talay and coming to terms with that, from episode 5 to 8 it's all about talay realizing his own feelings and being assured of puen's as well. the greyllery kiss is their first mutual one, and when it happens you can just trace every single step that led them to that specific moment, a moment that actually changes everything, because after that there's no going back: they spoke their feelings and acted on it, so whatever happens next they can never go back to who they were before

this kiss is also a very hard-earned one, not only by the characters but by the viewers too: after one forehead kiss, two one-sided kisses, three cheek kisses, and three almost kisses, you basically find yourself towards the end of episode 8 just tearing your hair out clawing your face off chewing your way through kevlar and BEGGING these two to JUST KISS ALREADY PLEASE KISS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KISS THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING HERE. or, well, that's what happened to me at least ;;;;;
