Devil's Nest Gang: Greed the Avaricious, Roa, Bido, Martel, Dolcetto, Ulchi, & more

Devil's Nest Gang:

semi-immortal homunculus fleeing his terrible family. the handful of government experiments he rescued from a lab to be his minions. the various humans, cast out by society, who came to work for him under his protection. the tragedy that they all faced in the end together, protecting each others backs until the end, and the realization after all was said and done that a group of close friends was all he ever wanted... greed and his chimeras are THE found family of all time. fma is full of family relationships, both biological and not, but theres something especially resonant to me about greed escaping his birth family and finding kinship in the shadows with his fellow outcasts, all of whom love him just the way he is. something something lgbt metaphor. they dont get much time on screen but their impact on the series is huge, and in particular bidos undying loyalty to greed is what brings back his memories after hes been "purified" and winds up setting the scene for the entire final battle. there is so much sadness but so much love. all of them would and Did die for one another. roa and dolcetto sacrificing themselves for martel, martel dying in a last-ditch bid to avenge them, bido dying out of trust in greed even after everything about the situation should have told him not to, greed eventually dying to save his NEW friends... they make me cry! do you ever lay in a puddle of your own tears and think about a bunch of furries at a gay bar. i do.

They’re just a bunch of neurodivergent mercenaries gathered by a himbo prince, who are tasked to save the world and their descendants from the apocalypse.

Julius gave a stretch.  "Well," he said, "now that that's taken care of, we should head back into the bar. Bido, you can come too." Bido perked up at that. Al watched his tail swish behind him almost with the same excitement as a dog. When they finally neared the bar, Ulchi suddenly called out from the entrance.  "Boss!" Ulchi said. "There's a state alchemist here to see you!" Julius went very, very still.  Al watched as his expression shifted into something incredibly dark, followed by something incredibly…Al couldn't put his finger on it. It was almost protective, but there was something else to it. Something he was missing.  "I'm not going to let them take what's mine," he said, voice low. He readjusted the bottom of his gloves, pulling them so they were as far up on his hand as they could possibly go. He turned back to the others.  "Martel, Dolcetto, you're with me," he said. "Roa, you stay here. Bido, you know where to go. And Alphonse…" He paused.  "Go with Bido," Julius said.

inspired by the amazing Gang As Cowboys art by @tiagilles in the 2019 devils nest zine: my own take on a design for cowboy bido (cowbido). because every time i looked at the piece, two thoughts kept coming to mind. one of which was This Man Needs a Poncho. second one was about greed. wont go into detail about that one

also despite the shoe based difficulties i reckon he has (sticky pads plus footwear doesnt seem like a good combo) it would probably not be great for him as a cowboy to go barefoot. but im used to drawing him that way and by the time i reconsidered it was 4 in the morning, and drawing shoes is hard, so pretend he took his boots off to pose for the camera or something
