Laura Freigang x Sydney Lohmann x Reader
summary~ In which you fall for two German girls that are in a relationship with eachother. They’ve had their eye on you for a little while now and decide to make a move now you’re working with their national team.
Tumblr media
Syd and Laura are bestfriends, everyone knew that. They roomed, sat and did basically everything together. They played for different clubs but that didn’t matter, they got to see eachother more than enough.
What most people didn’t know is that they are a little more than friends, girlfriends to be exact. They didn’t really try to keep it private but everyone just thought that they were good friends since they had always been like this.
When you moved from the Netherlands to Germany it felt like a big change, you were only twenty and, ofcourse you knew a few words and sentences but that was it. German sounds a bit like Dutch but it was still hard to understand all of the difficult business words, especially when they were talking so fast.
You’ve been a sports photographer for about three years now. It began with your love for women’s football. Watching your childhood club Ajax play week in week out, you wanted to capture it. After you realised your phone camera wouldn’t do the job anymore you bought a real professional camera, it had cost you a fortune and you had to work extra hours at the cafe you served at. But honestly, it was the best decision you’ve ever made. You tried to capture moments from your seat in the stands but that was hard when the bald men in the seats in front of you stood up at every exciting pass.
Eventually, you mustered up enough courage and mailed Ajax, asking them to get access to the field to photograph the players in action. A few days later you got a response back saying that they’d like that.
After capturing many more games you signed a contract with the club, not as a player but that didn’t matter.
That’s how you got here, signing a contract with the German women’s football team as media manager and photographer. You’ve photographed some of the players because some of the girls had played against Ajax. But this was all still very new to you, working in Germany and also managing the socials.
They also didn’t really bother to introduce you to the girls, you just had to start. Or well, that’s what you understood anyway.
The start of your new era began rather hectic. The German girls were going to Italy and Portugal for some friendlies. They would play against Iceland and England to prepare for the World Cup.
You were staying in the same hotel as the team and at dinner time you eventually met some of them. Sitting alone, Laura approached you.
“Hey, ich bin Laura, ich glaube, ich habe dich schon einmal gesehen.” (Hey, i’m Laura, i think i’ve seen you before.) she introduces herself. “Ich bin y/n, but uhh i don’t speak that much German. I’m the new media manager.” you say awkwardly. Why are you like this all of a sudden. “Oh sorry, i didn’t know but you’ve got an accent. Where are you from?” Laura asks you.
You tell her about your little journey, working for Ajax and photographing. Laura sits down at your empty table and you fall into a nice conversation. She apparently remembered you from a game she played against Ajax a few months ago.
Laura was telling you about her love for photography when a certain midfielder came crashing the conversation. “Laura, warum hast du mir diese Schönheit nicht vorgestellt?” (Laura why didn’t you introduce me to this beauty?) the girl said. Laura rolled her eyes at her, “Syd this is y/n, our new media manager and sports photographer, y/n this is Sydney my idiot girlfriend.” Laura explained.
You didn’t even know the girl but to say you were disappointed that she was taken was an understatement. You really clicked and thought that she was even flirting a little bit with you but you were just imagining things apparently.
Syd sat down on the chair on the other side of you and began to ask you things too. But she had other questions in mind. “So, do you have a girlfriend.. or boyfriend?” the midfielder asked you shamelessly. “Uh no, i don’t have a girlfriend at the moment.” you said with a red face trying to look anywhere but at the couple. The two German girls smirked to eachother and continued to pester you with questions.
The next day Laura and Sydney wanted to take you out for the day since they had the afternoon and evening off. Laura had promised you some beautiful views and good food so you couldn’t resist a night out with the two girls.
You dressed up and had done your makeup and hair. The two girls knocked on your door and when you opened it you saw both of the girls looking you up and down. Sydney licked her lips and greeted you, “Du siehst echt gut aus” (You look really good) and Laura did the same, “Du siehst so schön aus.” (You look very pretty).
They walked you to the black BMW they had rented and Sydney opened the car door for you. Laura sat in the drivers seat and Sydney in the passenger’s. Sydney connected her phone and r&b played on the background of your lighthearted conversation. At some point in the conversation they stopped talking English and switched to German.
“Sie sieht gut aus.” (She looks good) Laura said looking in her little mirror. Syd hummed, “Sie ist sehr schön. Glaubst du, sie mag uns?” (She’s very pretty. Do you think she likes us?). You were looking out of the window, listening to Frank Ocean when you heard Laura speak English again. “I think so, i guess we’ll have to find out.” and with that she parked the car and opened your door.
They took you to a very nice restaurant, the vibe was good and the food and company was even better. They kept flirting with you and now it wasn’t just Laura when she was alone with you, they both were and they both seemed to be okay with it too.
“What got you into sports photography?” Sydney asked you. “Well, i wanted to capture the moments and you know, the women.” you laughed, your face heating up. The couple laughed at your answer and Laura spoke again, “I get it, i’m surprised none of my teammates made a move on you yet, you’re a pretty girl.”. You were surprised but flattered by her words. “Oh thank you, the both of you look really good too.” you complimented them.
“Sie ist niedlich.” (She’s cute) Laura said to her girlfriend. The brunette gave her teammate a smile and looked at you again. “Yeah, you think so, liebling?” Sydney asked you, trying to get more out of you. “Yeah- well i mean you know, you’re both really attractive and sweet and stuff.” you rambled and they let you. Both of the girls giggled at your rambling, finding it quite cute how you got flustered so easily.
The night ended after some more teasing and a nice dessert. They walked you to your door and told you that they enjoyed their evening with you and how they’d love to do something like this again sometime. Sydney kissed you goodnight on your forehead while Laura kissed you on the corner of your lips. You wondered of she did that on purpose or if she did it by mistake.

l0hmannbayernn wait but syd and laura were at that same restaurant too
↳ germany_w0men they’re probably friends i think since y/n works for the national team
You traveled to Italy with the team and arrived in the evening. When you stepped out of the travel bus Sydney approached you. “We’re going to the beach with the team, do you want to join us?” she asked you calmly. You accepted her offer and walked to the beach together.
Syd told you about the time she went to Rome with Laura and how they got lost and nobody understood them because of their German accent. It was so funny that your stomach hurt from all the laughing. “Syd! Stop, my stomach!” you giggled. “Okay, okay i’ll stop.” Sydney hugged you from behind, her hands on your stomach. “Better now?” she asked you, you could feel her little smirk. “Yeah, all better.” you hummed leaning into her.
Sydney took your hand in hers and with your fingers intertwined you arrived at the beach. Apparently there were boats for rent and you couldn’t resist, floating on the water at sunset, that’s a dream. Laura saw the two of you get on the boat and joined, not wanting to miss out on more quality time.
The three of you sat at the front of the boat, looking at the sun disappearing into the sea. “I’ve had my eye on you for a little while now.” Laura suddenly says. You’re a bit shocked and your first reaction is to look in the direction of her girlfriend who laughs at your motion. “We’ve had our eye on you.” Syd corrects her girlfriend. Now you’re even more lost.
Not knowing where to look you look into the distance. “What do you mean?” you ask just above a whisper. “We both like you, romantically.” Laura says for the both of them. You look up and Laura is staring at you expecting some kind of reaction. You look at Syd and she nods assuringly.
Laura took your face into her hands and leaned in for a kiss. Your lips met hers. You’ve wanted this for longer than you’d like to admit. Your kiss with Laura was hungry but sweet. When you disconnected your lips Sydney saw that as her chance. The kiss with the midfielder was a little more rough and longer.
Laura saw the state of you and couldn’t help but smirk at your swollen lips and messy hair. “I’ll take that as a ‘i like you too’.” Sydney said giggling and pulling a strand of hair behind your ear. Your cheeks reddened and you nodded furiously. The girlfriends laughed at that and Laura kissed you on your red cheek.

The next few days you photographed the girls at training, made content, went on little outings with the team and you even got to steal a few kisses here and there. Sydney and Laura were absolutely wonderful and amazing models, both of them are pretty, beautiful, sexy, everything honestly. You liked taking pictures of them, especially when they weren’t looking or after a game they’d won. But all three of you knew that after this camp you’d probably see eachother again at the preparations for the World Cup and that was weeks away.

You were going from club to club in the break since you still needed to get some work done. Syd and Laura texted and called you a few times and they had a few dates planned between the camps. It was nice, they were absolutely perfect. You loved them.
The time flew by and the team had to get ready for the World Cup. You knew how much this meant to all of the girls. For some it was their first and for others just another. There was so much pressure on them, their nation was a winning one and everyone knew it, you could feel it. Germany was in it to win.
The team ended on top of their group and won all the other games in the knockouts. Fighting for every goal they got into the final. The final against England, the nation they lost the Euros title to. They wanted payback.
When you arrived at the stadium it felt like a dream. The atmosphere in the stadium was magic, nothing like you’ve ever seen before. Fans from all over the world eager to watch the rematch of the Euros final. As the match continued, it became clear that it would be a battle till the very end.
With the score tied at 1-1, it got hard to watch the game. The seconds were flying by, and both teams were pushing themselves to their absolute limit. Lohmann, your midfield maestro, got past Keira Walsh and Georgia Stanway. Spotting an opening, she passed a perfectly calculated ball to Freigang, your quick forward.
Laura, known for her fast pace and clinical finishing, sprinted towards the goal. Millie Bright tried to tackle Freigang but just couldnt get to her. With adrenaline running through her, she released her shot in the top bins. The stadium erupted as Germany took the lead in the dying minutes of the game.
Sydney flew into Laura’s arms, but Laura was searching for you. She knew you were there, capturing every moment through your lens. With one of her cocky smirks, she made her way towards you, with the high of scoring such and important goal she leaned in, planting a kiss on the camera lens. Her eyes meeting yours as she playfully winks at the camera.
The game didn’t last much longer. The extra time was over and the German girls ran towards eachother while the English girls sunk to the ground.
Your two footballers hugged eachother and you captured the moment. Nothing could top this moment you thought, atleast not for now.
The girls came running towards you and included you in their hug. “Saw what i did there?” Laura whispered in your ear. You laughed, “Yeah, couldn’t really miss it eh?”. The goalscorer poked you in your side and Sydney laughed at the two of you.
Things went really fast from that moment on, Syd and Laura asked you to be their girlfriend and you said yes ofcourse. You signed a contract with Bayern for when you weren’t working for the National team. That made it possible for you to see Syd almost everyday. As promised you had a date night atleast once a week with your girlfriends and Laura announced her signing. Both of your girlfriends were playing for Bayern and you couldn’t be happier.
It had all gone fast. You fell fast, you got close fast and you started dating fast. But in your eyes it felt like you’ve always known. You loved them and wouldn’t trade this for the world.

21. What’s the stupidest fight you’ve ever gotten into?
ok idk if this means like an argument or a physical altercation. umm once i was in an argument with a girlfriend because she said i loved doctor 13 more than her. that was a pretty stupid fight and i think she really was upset but the problem was i couldnt in sincerity tell her she was wrong. i was literally like 'you re going to have to accept this about me'. or if it means a physical altercation then one time i was waiting so so so long (we are talking like 2-3 hours) trying to get a taxi home from town and some dude swooped in on one before me and i got so mad i hit him over the head with the only thing i had to hand which was. a rose. guy turns around like what is your FUCKING problem and i was like ok yeah fair play i probably shouldnt have done that. but he started to get mad so i doubled down i was like ok but youre being really fucking dramatic about this it was just a flower i think you'll live. it didnt really escalate past a bit of shoving tho bc he had to get in his taxi so it wasnt really a fight. um also sometimes i punch people at random in the club
24. Do you tend to gravitate more toward using logic or intuition to make decisions?
hm. i think i make an intuitive decision and then am very good at coming up with a million logical arguments to justify it so i can SAY im making a decision based on logic. but its not really true im following my heart always i think.
51. What’s the longest you’ve ever stayed awake?
it is terrifyingly common for me to be awake for 30+ or even 40+ hours but i think one time when i was a teen i was awake for 3 days. like from morning on day one til evening on day 3 so like 60hrs? i was absolutely not grounded in reality by the end of it i was so fucked up.
57. Is there a vine or tik tok you quote often?
there truly is not. i never lived in those places
100. What’s one of your fondest memories? (excluding music related)
ok that is so evil u know my mcr trips are literally my favourite topic of conversation :( i have so many fond memories u dont even want to hear about my late winter sunrise coach journey heading off to sydney listening to rtl u dont even want to hear for the 17th time about when i crowdsurfed to mama in new jersey :( are we even friends.....
im gonna b real with u ive been trying to think of an answer here for quite some time and i dont think i can. im sure i have fond memories that aren't music-related and i know u phrased it like that bc u really didnt want to hear for the 18th time about when i crowdsurfed to mama in new jersey but like. i have been to so many shows and there really is magic in the air there and truly so many of my fondest memories are of those moments. running into people u havent seen in years and catching up and reminiscing... putting ur arm around a friend and wailing along to your favourite songs together.... fighting ur way out of the pit when a certain song starts bc u have to make it back to ur buddy for this one... fighting ur way INTO the pit when a certain song starts and making soulmates with random people for just one night... these ARE my fondest memories!! <3 oh one time i went to see tim minchin w friend as a teen we got high before we went in and it was a beautiful show he closed on white wine in the sun and when we came outside we were still high and it was snowing heavily it was so beautiful and it felt so magical. thats one of my favourite memories i think <3

“I loved it. I got to do some big cable work, explosion pullbacks, landing on the ground, concussion stuff. It was awesome. I mean, that’s why people tune in!” actor Todd Lasance says of NCIS: Sydney.
He’s not wrong. NCIS, now at 20 US seasons, has been a ratings blockbuster for CBS, spawning offshoots NCIS: LA, NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Hawaii.
Time for a little perspective from the other side of the Pacific which, according to Lasance, splashes Sydney Harbour across the screen.
“Our HQ is literally on Sydney Harbour… we open the doors and look to the right and the Harbour Bridge is above us.
“I know people say it’s priceless but you can’t put a price tag on that kind of view. Then we’re shooting with the Australian Navy on their bases, on the aircraft carriers. We were in the Seahawk helicopters, on the battleships, on the base with Navy personnel.”
Indeed the new series by Endemol Shine Australia lets the boys and girls play with big toys all in the name of naval investigation and security down under.
“We used the Rural Fire Fire Brigade HQ command (which they use for) a statewide bushfire operational command. It looks like a war room and we had 150 Naval crew in there,” Lasance continues.
“Stepping onto these bases, we all had to get clearances and go through the security checks. It was next level!
“This is actually happening!”
“I remember one shot in particular. Mackey (Olivia Swann) and I are flying the chopper and we’re on the deck of this gi-normous aircraft carrier. We’re in a Seahawk helicopter and we look over to the left and there’s the Harbour Bridge in the distance and we’re like, ‘This is actually happening!’ A chopper roars in on top of the carrier, everyone’s got their gear on, helmets for sound protection. Standing under the helicopter when it was 20 metres above the ground and the blades are nearly knocking you on your face… it’s awesome. They haven’t held back.”
Lasance, whose credits include Without Remorse, Spartacus: War of the Damned, True Spirit, Rescue: Special Ops, The Secrets She Keeps and Bite Club, plays AFP sergean Liaison Officer Sergeant Jim ‘JD’ Dempsey, thrown together with Former Marine Corps Captain turned NCIS Special Agent Mackey (Olivia Swann) when an American Submariner dies during a ceremony, marking the AUKUS agreement.
“We’ve got two sides clashing and that creates the friction”
But it’s not a welcome partnering, which differs from the unity that often exists in procedural investigation teams.
“Usually it’s ‘here’s your family and we’re gonna go on the journey’, whereas we’ve got two sides clashing and that creates the friction,” he continues.
“We’ve got those elements where we butt heads and keep each other on our toes. There’s also these beautiful, vulnerable moments and emotional elements peppered throughout the series. We get a bit of an insight into why they are the way they are. They save each other’s lives and rely on each other as well. So it’s the best dynamic, and the cast, I swear to you, is one of the greatest casts I have ever worked with. It’s like I have extended my own family.”
The crew also comprises AFP Constable Evie Cooper (Tuuli Narkle), Special Agent DeShawn Jackson (Sean Sagar), Forensic Pathologist Doctor Roy Penrose (William McInnes) and young Forensic Scientist Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson (Mavournee Hazel).
“He’s always paying her out, talking about ‘my jurisdiction'”
“JD is a dream role. He’s a country boy, the larrikin of the show. He’s kind of the comedic relief and the clash with Mackey, who comes in all business-like. She’s the maverick of the series and JD is breaking down her walls, and he ribs her all the time. He’s always paying her out, talking about ‘my jurisdiction,'” he explains.
“There’s cultural clashes between the Australianisms and the Americanisms and all that sort of stuff. But he grew up as a school teacher, and then ends up joining the AFP. He’s the head negotiator so he’s the leader. But obviously, the NCIS team is having to work side by side, to form a new kind of unit, which is a unique part of the show.”
Lasance also tackled all but one stunt in character.
“All the Spartacus training and the SEAL training I got to deal for Without Remorse and Black Site, comes into play. But I also like to do the stunts, because they get to use the shots. They don’t have to cut around those intense reactions. And then Liv who played Mackey kicks arse. She’s a weapon. She was stunt training, fire training, doing extracurricular stuff. She would finish on set, go straight to the stunt gym, do her fight training. We’re all hitting the gym, making sure we’re physically on point!”
“The enemy could be within”
In addition to the weekly crimes, creator Morgan O’Neill has woven in a further threat, if somewhat shrouded in mystery, across the 8 episodes.
“There’s an overarching enemy that could be embedded. So the enemy could be within. But there’s also an enemy that’s operating on a far bigger scale than what we realise. That’s the core of where our series goes and the finale episode heavily relates to my character too. It comes to a real head and the threat is on a huge scale,” he warns.
“If you’re really paying attention and you watch each episode, they start layering it in, and you start putting the dots together.”
After its World Premiere in Australia, NCIS: Sydney is fortunate enough to win a network screening on CBS next week. Are the writer / actor strikes to thank for this profile scheduling? Lasance isn’t sure but grateful for the exposure.
“All of our contracts are obviously local through MEAA, a local production company, through Paramount+ here. There was nothing relayed to us, initially, in the process. All of our deals are local and obviously, that’s why we had the SAG clearance when the strike happened,” he continues.
“The strike… in a weird way, it’s kind of helped NCIS: Sydney”
“The strike has reduced how much content is being put out, particularly on a global scale. So in a weird way, it’s kind of helped NCIS: Sydney and the franchise itself, because they’ve created an entire series that’s been allowed to shoot and continue production. I think it was us and the Game of Thrones spin-off in London.”
A second season will obviously depend on its performance in Australia and abroad, but Lasance is hopeful Australians will feel a sense of pride in having a local series elevated onto US network television. That may lead to more episodes and ultimately, more casting opportunities.
“It opens up those opportunities that you would never normally have access to. It allows you to pick and choose a little bit more and go after the roles that you really want to go for… it’s all about the heat…. but when you don’t have the heat, it’s a bit of politics that goes into the castings. You can miss out on jobs because you don’t have the profile at the time,” he says.
“I feel the pressure”
Lasance adds, “There’s such a massive following for NCIS, but I feel the pressure. I hope that they love the new series but the Australian audience is tough to win over sometimes. So I hope they’ve got a sense of pride to it. It’s shot here… local production, all local crews, Australian directors. Olivia and Shaun are from the UK, but everyone else’s Aussie on board.
“So we’re hoping that Australia then gets behind it.”
NCIS: Sydney premieres Friday on Paramount+

Today’s mix:
Global Underground 006: Sydney by John Digweed 1998 Progressive House / Progressive Trance / Trance
So I'm back at the well of the famed Global Underground series to take a gander at DJ/producer/remixer/label owner extraordinaire John Digweed's late 90s double-disc Sydney sets. And it's still early going in my exploration of this whole series, but so far, I think that this is the most consistent release that I've come across. I wasn't really floored by either of these discs like I was with the second one in Nick Warren's Brazil set (holy fucking shit, that thing's amazing), but both CDs here are still pretty equally good, I think.
Something Digweed's especially known for is helping to kick the progressive house genre into full gear in the 90s with his residency at the UK club, Renaissance, alongside his other musical half, Sasha. So the first disc here is mostly loaded up with progressive house tracks, and its overall shape happens to be pretty nice too. You can get a sense of what Digweed's trying to do early on, which then allows you to prime yourself for the remainder of the ride.
Like, within the first five tracks here, Digweed takes you up and down a bunny hill, which leaves you knowing that you're gonna get a much more intense ride with a similar dynamic later on. And then he ends up delivering on that inkling, with this somewhat dark atmospheric cloud hanging over the whole thing throughout. And you can actually feel Digweed playing the role of proverbial ski lift too as he guides you up the mountain with a trio of tracks that successively grow in their respective click-clacking intensities, and then he lets you go at that peak, from which you then coast on down the mountain's sloping backside. I wasn't fully on board with every selection here, but this disc's journey is still very coherent and well-crafted nonetheless.
The second disc is where Digweed goes in more of a trancey direction. There's much less of a detectable narrative here, but he still picks out some pretty damn nifty progressive tunes. And Mortal's "Autobahnana" is one that especially sticks out for a couple reasons: one, look at the album art for its 12-inch.
Tumblr media
It's a goddamn banana laid across the two white parallel lines of Kraftwerk's Autobahn. I mean... just...what on earth? And two, these guys managed to incorporate a fucking blaring horn from a speeding truck into their song. And, contrary to what you might think, it's not actually grating at all; in fact, it actually fits right in; and it kills. Amazing!
Plus, Digweed also features a standard classic from the legendary Paul van Dyk too: "Words (For Love)," a song that fills out beneath with majestic strings, above with a simple and catchy whistle-bloopy lead melody, and between with a whole lot more. Quite literally an excellent tune from top to bottom.
Like I said though, neither of these two discs are really all that transcendently jaw-dropping, but there's still two pretty good sets here with some great songs within each, and that's something I can't really say for any of the other Global Underground releases that I've taken a dive into thus far. Some of these GU double-discers contain one incredible set and one terrible set, like the Nick Warren in Brazil one, and others aren't very good on either front, like the Dave Seaman in Buenos Aires one (sorry Dave!). But this one's just pretty steady all throughout and, therefore, I think, probably worth giving a full listen.
Listen to CD1 here. Listen to CD2 here.
Highlights:
CD1:
Liquid Language - "Blu Savannah" Jan Driver - "Filter" Shapeshifter - "Flood" Hong Kong Trash - "Down the River (McBuffalo Mix)" Abundance - "Spiritual (That Kid Chris Mix)" Albion - "Air"

I mean, I have a YA (like 4th-6th grade kind of YA) gymnastics novel in my head that follows 3 gymnasts from the same gym - a 13yo determined to make the Olympics, a 15yo determined to get a D1 college scholarship, and a 17yo who just enjoys competing L10 and being the star of her high school gymnastics team and wants to go to the Naval Academy - but you're dead right that there are SO few adult gymnastics novels! It's kinda annoying.
When we were doing market research for her first pitch we found one novel that claimed to be about an adult protagonist but it turned out that she immediately starts coaching near the start of the novel.
In general strokes her novel is: fictional member of the Magnificent Seven missed Sydney because she broke her foot at 1999 Worlds and just couldn't make it back in time. USAG is not so gently telling her she needs to retire in 2001 when the novel starts in part because they rightly suspect she called the police after an incident in her childhood gym leaves a gymnast with a broken arm because a coach forced her to get back up on a beam with a concussion. She's given up her eligibility for NCAA and the only place she can continue to be a gymnast is a small down on it's luck club in the German professional league. She finds a family there and a new love for her sport and takes the bewildered group of her German friends/coaches through a journey back to the Olympics in the insane world of the 2004 cycle.
Since the MC is 21 when the novel starts it doesn't fit in the YA genre and there is the problem with how to pitch it. It's also very much not a YA novel even if the protag wasn't an adult (nothing wrong with YA this just isn't it).

December 2023 Book Club Picks
Tumblr media
Batman: Mad Love and Other Stories by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm: Harley Quinn - the Joker's right hand henchwoman, hopelessly in love with her dear sweet puddin'. But what lead her down this dark path? And is there any hope to possibly reach her?
As the Crow Flies by Melanie Gillman: Welcome to Camp Three Peaks, a rustic, Christian summer retreat for teenage girls. A week of hiking, adventure, and communing with the God of its 19th-century founders… a God that doesn’t traditionally number people like 13-year-old Charlie Lamonte among His (Her? Their? Its?) flock. The only black camper in the group, and queer besides, she struggles to reconcile the innocent intent of the trip with the blinkered obliviousness of those determined to keep the Three Peaks tradition going. As the journey wears on and the rhetoric wears thin, Charlie can’t help but poke holes in the pious disregard this storied sanctuary has for outsiders like herself—and her fellow camper, Sydney.
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte: Gilbert Markham is intrigued by Helen Graham, the beautiful, mysterious new tenant who's recently rented Wildfell Hall with her young son. Although Gilbert is more than happy to befriend her, Helen's reclusive behavior sparks local gossip, and she seems intent on keeping Gilbert at arm's length. Finally, as Gilbert's feelings for Helen become more than friendship, she allows him to read her diary that explains exactly why she behaves the way she does, as the details of the disastrous marriage she left behind unfurl.
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds: Will's older brother Shawn has been murdered. And Will knows the rules - no snitching. No crying. And revenge at any cost. So now, with a gun shoved in his waistband, he boards his building's elevator to do just that. But then the elevator stops and on comes Buck, the one who gave Shawn the gun in the first place...and who Will knows for a fact is dead too. As the elevator continues to descend and more passengers hitch a ride with Will, the cycle of violence unfolds before him. Each ghost has a piece that changes the story Will thought he knew, a story that might continue forever if Will gets off that elevator.
Get Well Soon: History Worst Plagues and the Heroes Who Fought Them by Jennifer Wright: In 1518, a woman in the small village of Strasbourg began dancing and didn't stop. Six days later, her corpse was carried away after she died of exhaustion. In a month, 400 more people would be infected with the so-called Dancing Plague. A national effort to clean the River Thames is ignited when a cholera outbreak is linked to the "Great Stink" in London. An eccentric English gentleman creates the No Nose Club, a social club for stigmatized syphilitics when there was no known cure. An Irish cook causes two lethal breakouts of typhoid, forever earning the moniker Typhoid Mary. Since the dawn of humanity, we've been fascinated and terrified by disease. In this hilarious and historical book, Jennifer Wright not only explores the circumstances that lead to the outbreaks, but the brave people who fought against them, found cures, or simply eased the suffering of its victims.

Hallmark doesn't seem to really be advertising it or putting out promos but you can watch The Love Club: Sydney's Journey (my favorite of the first 3 - haven't watched the 4th yet) tonight and then they're airing all 4 movies on Monday afternoon/evening with Lauren's Dream premiering at 6/5c and Tara's Tune at 8/7c if you're interested in watching.
The Love Club: Lauren's Dream - Lauren's dreams have been put on hold while Peter moves up in his career, leading them to the brink of divorce. The Love Club steps in to help them rediscover a love that was never really lost. Stars Chantel Riley, Andrew Bushell. (Nothing special about this one - it's about a separated couple who each think the other is dating someone else and they suck at communicating so The Love Club has to manipulate the situation so they can get back together.)
The Love Club: Tara's Tune - Outspoken Tara has always professed she doesn't need a partner. When she decides to plan a commitment-to-herself party, The Love Club, along with Tara's perfect match, show up just in time. Stars Camille Stopps, Brett Donahue.

Fishing Boats: Equipped with specialized features for anglers.

Where to Start Your Search
When it comes to finding Boats for Sale Sydney, there are various avenues to explore:
Boat Dealerships: Sydney has numerous reputable dealerships that offer both new and used boats. They can provide valuable guidance and arrange sea trials.
Online Marketplaces: Websites like BoatSales.com.au, YachtWorld, and Gumtree are treasure troves of listings from both private sellers and dealers.

Consider Your Budget
Before you start your search, it's crucial to establish a budget. Boats come in various price ranges, and knowing your financial limits will help narrow down your options. Don't forget to account for maintenance, insurance, and mooring costs in your budget.
Inspect and Survey
Once you've found a boat that catches your eye, it's essential to inspect and survey it thoroughly. Engage a qualified marine surveyor to ensure the boat is in good condition and free from any hidden issues. This step is crucial, especially when buying a used boat.
Negotiation and Documentation
Negotiating the price is a common part of the boat-buying process. Be prepared to discuss the terms and conditions of the sale with the seller or dealer. Additionally, ensure all necessary documentation, including the transfer of ownership and registration, is completed correctly.

The Intertwining Threads of Self-Discovery, Love, and Loss: My Journey So Far
There is a certain chaos that comes with crafting your image, an internal tug-of-war between who you are and who you wish to be. Amidst this chaos, I learned to embrace the imperfections of life - because let's face it, there are enough flaws to fill every natural history museum. 🌍
From the age of 14 to 21, I dedicated my life to the freedom of others, a young, fiery boy with a reserved, soft heart. I was a paradox, ambitious yet timid, drawn to the clubbing scene I secretly despised, wrestling with my sexual liberation until it lost its charm, yearning for meaningful connections only to end up isolated for two years of my life. Yet, I remained unfazed. Rubbish on the floor became a symbol of life's unpredictability, and I found joy in the highest of highs and lowest of lows.
At 24, having attained half of my million-pound dream, I sought to express myself freely once again. I found solace in a balanced diet, a fulfilling social life, a thriving career, and regular exercise. Despite my dislike for the city I was in, I loved my life. Melbourne quickly lost its charm after appearing in Sydney. Yet, I longed for the cultural richness of London, the architectural grandeur of Europe, and the vibrant green spaces that reminded me of Ceredigion or the Hong Kong minor Islands.
Fast forward to now -- I've decided I want to split my time between three places. London, my hometown, for its rich heritage and vibrant art scene (June to January). Austria or India, for a more natural lifestyle and to design my own home (January to April). And lastly, a place chosen by my loved one - currently, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Bahamas, or Boston. Very undecided ...
Yet, amidst the beauty of these places and the enriching experiences they offer, I find myself questioning my choices. I've found happiness in the fiery, passionate relationships I've had, but I've also struggled with the clash of our hot-headed natures. The key to making such relationships last, I've learned, is mutual respect, honour, and integrity. The fire can then grow together and quell together until it reaches a warming flame.
My journey hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows. I've found myself lost in the abyss of depression, feeling numb and questioning my existence. I've been let down, ignored, and hurt by those closest to me. I've been torn between what's right and what's best, to the point where I no longer fear death or memory loss.
I'm at a point where I can't even write anymore, where I struggle to express the whirlwind of emotions within me. But here I am, finding solace, hope, and a path forward.
Life is unpredictable, filled with highs and lows, joys and sorrows, love and loss. But, it's these intertwining threads that create the tapestry of our existence. Embrace it, and continue on this journey of self-discovery. 💖

Albums Of 2022: 25-1
Tumblr media
Part one of this list (numbers 50-26) is here:
The countdown continues:
25.
HVOB "TOO"
Tumblr media
Austrian duo HVOB (Her Voice Over Boys)'s 5th album is another melding pounding techno, with lush vocals, elements of trance and house, chilled soundscapey moments and more downtempo fare. Mesmerising.
24.
Leftfield "This Is What We Do"
Tumblr media
Second Leftfield album as a Neil Barnes solo project, and 4th overall, this album is unsurprisingly closer in sound to its 2015 predecessor 'Alternative Light Source' than either of the albums made as a duo with Paul Daley, and while they may not be as legendary and classic as 'Leftism' or (as some may argue) 'Rhythm & Stealth' they are still very good records. As ever a genre melting pot, with elements of dub, techno, breakbeat, punk, chillout etc.
23.
Röyksopp "Profound Mysteries"
Tumblr media
The first part of the Norwegian duo's 2022 album trilogy contains the typical combination of danceable floorfillers and beautiful chilled moments. Quality stuff. Honestly if they'd done a best of the 3 parts as one album, it could be the best they'd done.
22.
Synthsonic "Iconiq"
Tumblr media
Hard trance producer Carl Nicholson wanted to create a multi-genre (within dance music) band type project. So along with fellow producer Dave Parkinson, pianist Paul Skelton, and vocalists Renny Carroll & Niki Mak, he has done just that. A dance music journey, they claim 8 genres appear over the 12 tracks, with trance, house, breaks and drum & bass among them. A nice nostalgic reminder of the more inventive dance albums of the past.
21.
Billy Daniel Bunter & Sanxion "1993"
Tumblr media
The second collaborative album from these two, this time concentrating on recreating the style of breakbeat hardcore from 1993. Job done, nailed it. Big breaks, pianos, vocal hooks all present. Love it.
20.
Lupa J "A New Kind Of Magic"
Tumblr media
I've liked Lupa J's brand of glacial electro-pop since 2016's My Right Name EP, but this, her 3rd full length, is her best work yet. As she's brought the breakbeats. Adding old school breaks to her modern glitchy style works a charm, and this is a mesmerising, hypnotic listen.
19.
Working Mens Club "Fear Fear"
Tumblr media
They may be from Yorkshire, but I hear a lot of influence from 70s & 80s Manchester here. From Joy Division to the dance beats of the Haçienda via some synth-pop, this album is full of upbeat (in a rhythmical sense) melancholy and a bleak view of the world, but not afraid to use a catchy hook.
18.
William Orbit "The Painter"
Tumblr media
Chilled beauty, elements of dub, gorgeous guest vocals, all wrapped up in music that is distinctly Orbit.
17.
PVA "Blush"
Tumblr media
Mixing pounding dance music, with live percussion, spoken vocals and post-punk vibe, makes this band rather unique and their debut album one to treasure.
16.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Cool It Down"
Tumblr media
Though at only 8 tracks and 32 minutes, it only just qualifies as an album - controversial statement incoming - this is probably YYY's best album yet. Bathed in electronics, to set mood and produce energy, with some huge instrumentation, synths and beats, with some big hooks, there are multiple tracks here that are up there with the band's classics like "Date With The Night" or "Zero" but really don't sound like them.
15.
Holy Wars "Eat It Up, Spit It Out"
Tumblr media
Debut album from this LA duo, and it packs a punch. Flitting genres from rock and punk with some hip hop influences and a large pinch of electronics, these songs pack attitude and hooks aplenty. Singer Kat Leon is a bona fide rock star, just not enough people have heard of her yet. Give it time.
14.
Annie Hamilton "The Future Is Here But It Feels Kinda Like The Past"
Tumblr media
Sydney folk and indie pop band Little May's debut album was dreamy, atmospheric, warm and beautiful. Their follow up wasn't. I wondered what happened, and now I feel it may well have been because Annie Hamilton left the band between albums. For this, her debut solo album is dreamy, atmospheric, warm and beautiful. As Rough Trade put it "Dream pop can sometimes feel detached and low-stakes, but not in the hands of Annie Hamilton. The Sydney solo artist applies an urgent kick of immediacy to shoegaze-style layering, stacking heady textures so impactfully that everything she sings about begins to feel like sensory immersion." And that is the thing, there's not an abundance of big choruses or catchy hooks here, but it draws you in and surrounds you and just feels lovely.
13.
Celsius "1992"
Tumblr media
A tribute to the breakbeat hardcore, and the music of the raves in 1992, and a very good one. It sounds just like it was made in 1992. If you like that sort of stuff you will find much to enjoy here. Top one, nice one, get sorted.
12.
Mojave Phone Booth "Hollow The Numbers"
Tumblr media
Former Snake River Conspiracy members Tobey Torres-Doran and Mitchell Doran, with drummer Lynn Farmer of Meat Beat Manifesto, release their 2nd album as Mojave Phone Booth, and what a genre hopping journey it is. Across the course of the album there are elements of industrial, trip-hop, punk and even a 10 minute breakbeat-esque club stomper with "Analog Religion". Excellent stuff.
11.
Ben Gold "Rest Of Our Lives"
Tumblr media
Stunning euphoric trance on this debut album from Ben Gold, featuring two of the biggest vocal tunes on the scene this year with the title track and the magnificent "Same Sky Same Stars" featuring Plumb.
10.
Feeder "Torpedo"
Tumblr media
The quality of Feeder albums have been up and down over their career. The last couple (2016's "All Bright Electric" & 2019's "Tallulah") represented somewhat of a return to form and were very good records. "Torpedo", however, is pretty much a Feeder classic. Mixing elements from their first 4 albums (and mini album "Swim"), from chunky riffs to soaring choruses and beautiful slower songs, this album is their first since "Comfort In Sound" to give me that feeling which made Feeder one of my favourite bands back in the late 90s and early 00s.
9.
Grum "Unreality"
Tumblr media
Fusing an 80s influenced, almost synthwave sound, with deep house, trance & techno, Grum's latest is an intriguing and addictive beast, helped in no small part to some stunning vocal contributions from the likes of Natalie Shay and Sarah Appel amongst others.
8.
Conjure One "Innovation Zero"
Tumblr media
Rhys Fulber, the mastermind behind Conjure One (and also one half of Delerium), unleashes his 4th album under this alias. It is a dark, yet beautiful, exquisitely produced album of downtempo electronic music. Staggering melodies in the vocal led songs, mesmerising soundscapes in the instrumentals, this contains 3 of my favourite songs of the year, in "Animals", "Hide" & "Wheels Come Off".
7.
Craig Connelly "Believe In Magic"
Tumblr media
My absolute favourite of the new trance producers to emerge in the last decade or so, Craig Connelly unleashes his 3rd artist album of uplifting trance, mixing vocal anthems and instrumental stormers.
6.
Placebo "Never Let Me Go"
Tumblr media
In my opinion, Placebo haven't made a bad album, and this, their first in 9 years, is fortunately no exception. Typical fuzzy guitars, drums both real and programmed, a soaking of synths and electronics, Placebo often look to do something different with each album, and they do, but only slightly. So it's always undeniably Placebo, but it just keeps it a bit fresh. They themselves here sound somewhat renewed and recharged and ready for action.
5.
Vukovi "NULA"
Tumblr media
A concept album then, for Vukovi's 3rd opus, but none of your moustache twiddling, pretentious, triple album nonsense that can so often come from the concept album. Nope, this is a Vukovi album good and proper and the songs within will stir up many a mosh pit. It's heavy, it's bouncy, it's melodic. It simply rocks. One of the most reliably brilliant bands in the world right now.
4.
Blood Red Shoes "Ghosts On Tape"
Tumblr media
This was a little unexpected. Every Blood Red Shoes album has been enjoyable. Every one has made my top 50 of its release year (I believe), but none have broken the top ten. This, then, is their masterwork (at least so far). Combining elements of the older rocky era, with the later more electronic output, "Ghosts On Tape" is a spectacular melting pot of sound, with some brilliantly good tunes.
3.
Brigade "Dissonance"
Tumblr media
Wow, where did this come from? I saw Brigade live in support slots a couple of times in the mid to late 00s, liked them, bought their first 2 albums (and completely missed that they had an album out in 2011). You know, they were good, but didn’t blow me away. But when I heard this was out I thought it deserved a listen. My, how they have grown. “Dissonance” is fantastic! Yes there are elements of the band they were, but it’s gone super widescreen. Taking the epicness of post-rock, a dash of prog (in the way of having many ideas in one song, rather than the meandering length), with some brilliant vocal hooks and melodies. It’s huge, spine tingling, and manages some to get some huge riffs in there in places too. Superb.
2.
The Glitch Mob "Ctrl Alt Reality"
Tumblr media
I wasn't that aware of The Glitch Mob until a month or so ago. I think I'd heard the name, and checking out their previous albums of heavily American festival main stage EDM slanted bass music, if I had heard any previously, I'd've thought 'nah, not for me'. But I saw someone praising this album online, so I checked it out, and it blew my mind. Out goes their modern EDM style production and in comes the old school. More specifically, the amen breakbeat. And lots of it. This is a lazer sharp, immaculately produced, love letter to early 90s rave culture, specifically hardcore and jungle music, and the beautiful power of the breakbeat. And while it is stuffed to the gills with old school style samples and sounds, it doesn't sound like it was made then. It's not a carbon copy. It sounds like it was made today, but it ticks all the boxes for someone who was in love with that music in the 90s.

Pure Reason Revolution "Above Cirrus"
Tumblr media
Pure Reason Revolution released 3 astonishing albums (2 of which were Offbeat albums of the year) of modern prog, mixed with almost metal riffs, Beach Boys-esque 3 way vocal harmonies, and massive amounts of electronics before they called it a day in 2011. Core duo Jon Courtney and Chloë Alper reformed the band in 2019, and in 2020 unleashed 4th album “Eupnea”. While “Eupnea” was a very good album, and it was great to have them back, something wasn’t quite the same as it was. That magic spark wasn’t quite all there. But wow is it back with “Above Cirrus”. Right from opener “Our Prism” the huge vocal harmonies are there to tingle your spine, to announce PRR are back on form, and prepare you for the ride. Stunning stuff.

The top 3 albums were all considered for the number 1 spot, and it was very, very close in the end, but PRR took it.
