Guillermo went to the Wellness Center armed to the teeth with both lethal and non-lethal weapons, so either he knew instinctively something sinister was going on or he Did Not Care and was going to get Nandor back even if he had to drag him out and kill or incapacitate anyone who stood in his way.
Still stuck on the fact that he actually didn't have to drag Nandor at all. Nandor didn't fight him or run from him or pull away from him or do anything but hold his hand and come along while putting up a token protest.

look, the wellness center is a television masterpiece for more reasons than i can count but i truly am obsessed with the fact that we discover all of the vampires have been well aware nandor was ruler of a country but every other day except his ascensionversary they pretend they have no idea what he’s talking about just to piss him off while he’s trying to talk about candle safety tips and he inexplicably believes them every single time. the panache, the pizzazz, the shade, the commitment to the bit. truly iconic.

My friend put One Week by the Barenaked Ladies on our joint vampire playlist bc of the Wellness Center, and we were listening to it and simultaneously lost our minds when we realized just how well the lyrics actually fit nandermo. Like
Tumblr media
This was not a coincidence. Aside from the joke of it they were actually insane for canonically associating this song with them
ALSO AS IM ABOUT TO POST THIS I REALIZED THAT SECOND BRIDGE WAS EVEN FORESHADOWING THEIR FIGHT IN THE FINALE FUCK YOU WRITERS

Okay, okay, one more and then I'll (probably) be done for a while, lol.
I still canNOT stop thinking about Nandor's line from, like, ep 1 of season 4 about how his homeland is supposedly populated by "all vampires" now.
Like, what??? Why? How? This feels like such an odd detail for the writers to just throw in like that with basically NO explanation (and that's saying a lot for a show that thrives on the weird factor).
So, I have a couple of theories for this.
Theory #1 is that Nandor was lying. If this was the case, I think the area that used to be Al Quolanudar was most likely deserted, dilapidated, and crumbling away, lost to time as many ancient cities often are. Seeing his homeland in such a deplorable condition depressed him, hence why he said it was "not good for his mental health."
Why would he have said particularly that it was "all vampires now" though if it wasn't true? My guess is that since Nandor views vampirism as a curse and in a negative light in general, he equated the neglected, ruined condition of a once vibrant and bustling city to being like he views himself as a vampire - lifeless, boring, useless, pathetic, overwhelmingly sad, an ancient, dusty relic that no one pays any mind to anymore, etc. And he made sure to make it sound as shitty as possible when describing it to Guillermo specifically because he's still (consciously or subconsciously) trying to dissuade him from wanting to be turned.
Theory #2 is that Nandor was, in fact, telling the truth. If this was the case, I find it highly interesting that being surrounded by vampires seemingly made Nandor uncomfortable to the point where he said it was "not good for his mental health."
You know when the last time was that Nandor was in a place populated by all vampires?
When he was living at the Wellness Center.
And we all know how incredibly damaging that whole fiasco was to Nandor's mental health.
So perhaps, if Nandor was telling the truth, being in a place populated entirely by vampires did actually unsettle him. It would be interesting to revisit this detail and how he feels about it, especially because I'm thinking this could imply that he's still suffering some PTSD from his time with Jan and her cult.
With only a few episodes left of this season, I'm not too certain that an explanation for this mysterious bit of dialogue exchange will come forth. But hey, it's fun to speculate!

I forgot that everyone in the Wellness Center episode was so so pretty (except Colin Robinson). Nandor? Was so pretty in his depression fit and then later with his short hair. Laszlo? Prettier than usual. Nadja? Also prettier than usual. Guillermo? Yeah<3. I love this episode sm.

Does anyone else ever think about what else Nandor and Guillermo talked about on the drive back to the vampire residence after the kidnapping in 3x8?
I can’t help but think that Guillermo was close to tears for the entirety of the drive, rubbing his eyes and lying, saying that he had garlic powder in them. I think there was shouting and pleading from Nandor as he tried to command Guillermo to return him to his human community. I think Guillermo lied and said “Don’t try to hypnotize me when I’m driving, it’s dangerous!” To which Nandor would have replied “As I am no longer a vampire I can no longer use vampire hypnosis on people. That was just regular human commanding.”
I think they sat in the car for a while when they arrived back home. I think Guillermo apologized as he backed the car up to the basement door. As Guillermo reached for a silver rope to tie around Nandor’s waist to lead him to the cage, I think Nandor put his hands up, looked at his familiar-turned-bodyguard, and said “That’s not necessary” as he walked into the cage on his own. I think Guillermo tried one more time to get Nandor to see things his way, to just come upstairs and sit down with him, Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson so that they could all figure this out together. And I think Nandor stared back at Guillermo and said nothing.
Right after Guillermo hit the lights and slammed the basement door shut, I think Nandor sat on the bed and whispered “Fucking heartguard.”

Now that I'm rewatching the Wellness Center, SOS by Timothy Fleet and Wayne Murray was also an insane song choice if not moreso than One Week. Especially how they play the chorus of "I'm sending out an SOS" as Nandor is telling the cameras how brainwashed happy he is in the cult!!!
I'm hyperfixating on the wwdits soundtrack tonight I guess bc these fuckers are MASTERS at choosing songs with maximum psychic damage if you know the lyrics

when nandor used the fact that he knew all the words to one week to convince guillermo that he was human in the wellness center that was actually very compelling bc I have listened to that song truly over 100 times since I watched the ep and I still only know like 70% of the words

I just rewatched “The wellness centre” and it made me realize that Nandor really needs to use one of those last two wishes to become human again.
(And then Guillermo is going to be the one turning him into a vampire again. Or something. )
Because it won’t make sense if he doesn’t, considering his whole character arc. For a day, for a month, for a full season, Nandor is just a regular human.
He needs to live as human long enough to decide that being a vampire is better.
(Or that he loves Guillermo and he wants to be together forever. Or something.)
But seriously: let him experience again the pain in the ass that it is to have an alive human body (and rediscover what it feels like to get a flu, and food poisoning, and headache and joint pain and all that jazz) so that he can really feel the deep desire to go back to having blood being the only body fluid he has to worry about.
(And semen. For the witches. Which makes no sense but that’s another rant for another day.)
