zuko definitely doesn't regret introducing iroh to sokka because they're two of the people he loves most in the world and he wants them to get along, and because they do, in fact, get along very well. the problem is that it's almost... too well? like, zuko is used to talking to sokka in a language of inside jokes and references, but it seems that sokka and iroh have their own such language—one that zuko does not understand in the slightest. iroh will say some incomprehensible proverb, and sokka will respond with one of his own, and iroh will laugh, and zuko will be left entirely bewildered. or they'll get into a heated argument over how best to conceptualize the spirits, all while seemingly enjoying themselves, and then go back to playing pai sho as if nothing happened. zuko often does not understand them, but at least they have each other?

I don’t know if I’m the only one who thinks this... but we all know Ozai had absolutely no problem with killing Zuko after firelord Azulon ordered him to do so as punishment. We all know Ozai is evil as can be. So evil he shouldn’t even have the luxury of being sent to hell because all he would do is try to practice getting his firebending back. He even tried to send an assassin on Ursa’s ex boyfriend/fiancé when he thought she was writing letters to him. So yeah, evil asshole (along with many other very explicit names). SO I AM HERE TO ASK THIS: is it plausible to believe Lu Ten may not have really died in battle, but Ozai sent an assassin to kill him?

When you think about it, every character in ATLA had some level of depth to them and served in some way to the overall story. So Lu Ten –the son of General Iroh/the Dragon of the West/one of the most powerful fire benders– Lu Ten just dying in battle seems a little too simplistic.

The idea that Ozai hired someone to make sure Lu Ten did not return from battle... if Ozai didn’t use a fire nation native as the assassin (sit the f*ck down Sparky Sparky Boom Man)

it wouldn’t be a stretch to say Ozai could’ve had a few corrupt earth benders in his contacts.

BUT REALLY,

Azula was able to easily turn the dai lee, so Ozai could have probably easily proposed some gold/land to a few corrupt earth benders if not a fire nation native (and then probably instead of delivering said gold/land either had them executed or thrown into the Boiling Rock). Regardless, for the remainder of this post, let’s entertain the idea Ozai might have had his nephew assassinated. Why? Ozai not only hated his brother as a person (even before Iroh found enlightenment through the spirits) but Ozai was also consumed by jealousy because Iroh was the first born And favorite son AND the last one to be able to earn the title ‘Dragon’ because Iroh ‘killed’ the last living dragon. Ozai has always been second son, second in line for the throne, with no cool title like dragon⬇️

BUT Lu Ten is born - meaning Lu Ten is now second in line for the throne and Ozai is pushed back to third. Lu Ten was obviously older than Zuko so we can assume Lu Ten was born before Ozai and Ursa were arranged to be married.

The only reason Azulon even sought Ursa (granddaughter of Avatar Roku) out was probably because Azulon needed his second son to hold some type of significance.

Azulon to Ozai (probably):“Marry the granddaughter of the last avatar, give me some above average grandchildren, and you won’t be completely insignificant to me Ozai” (sadly I imagine that being the most FatherSon talk those two would ever have) - so Ozai obviously hated Zuko, liked(?) Azula, and hated Iroh and Lu Ten by association for being in his way of the throne along with Azulon. Is it completely crazy to believe Ozai sent some sort of assassin after Lu Ten, and ordered the assassin to make it seem like a ‘died in battle’ type of death? Assuming Iroh’s wife is dead because we never see her; I think she died in childbirth - Ozai KNEW that Lu Ten was the most important person in Iroh’s life, without question.

Ozai KNEW it would DESTROY his brother if Lu Ten died.

If Lu Ten is dead, Ozai would be second in line for the throne again. If Iroh was destroyed emotionally/psychologically, because of his only son’s death and deemed unfit to rule, Ozai himself has a higher chance of being next in line after Azulon dies. All Ozai cared about was the throne and the power that came with it. Think back to right after Lu Ten died. Zuko’s flashback in ‘Zuko Alone’ where they were all in Azulon’s chambers and Azulon told Ozai

“Say what it is you want. Everyone else go.”

Remember not just the proposal Ozai made, or the incredible performance by Mark Hamill, No. I want you to remember the tone and specific word choice / phrasing Ozai used in the following proposal :::

Ozai: Father, you must have realized as I have, that with Lu Ten gone, Iroh’s bloodline has ended. After his son’s death, my brother abandoned the siege at Ba Sing Se; and who knows when he will return home? But I am here father; and my children are alive.”

Azulon: “Say what it is you want.”

Ozai: “Father, revoke Iroh’s birthright. I am your humble servant; here to serve you and our nation. Use me.”

Azulon: “You dare suggest I betray Iroh? My firstborn? Directly after the demise of his only beloved son? I think Iroh has suffered enough; but you? Your punishment has Scarcely BEGUN!”

Azula quoting Azulon to Zuko: “Your punishment must fit your crime. You must know the pain of losing a firstborn son... by sacrificing your own.”

Zuko⬇️:

AND OZAI WAS GOING TO FREAKING DO IT WITHOUT QUESTION! HIS FIRSTBORN AND ONLY SON. This example alone proves that Ozai has no problem killing family (the fact he takes Ursa up on her offer for her to kill Azulon with an untraceable poison in exchange for Zuko’s life is only further proof of this).

sokka as the cute but nerdy physics student (!!!!) who just needs a scholarship to ba sing se university so he starts his summer project centered around the physics of figure skating, a hobby he and katara had loved since they were kids.

zuko as the hot, popular (?) figure skating prodigy living in both his parents and his sister’s shadows. Sokka explains to him what he’s doing and how figure skating is basically physics and zuko is equal parts skeptical and endeared but then he see’s sokka skating one time using all his physics mambo jumbo and he’s like “okay this kid is cute - i mean good??” so he takes up sokka’s offer to work with him on his skating bc 1. He wants desperately to improve and 2. Bc he wants to spend time with a cute, smart boy and it’s weird bc for the longest time zuko’s only ever cared about skating and being the best and hasn’t really given a shit about dating but then sokka came into his life and everything changed and even though sokka has started to compete and do well, zuko doesn’t feel the typical animosity he feels towards other skaters bc he...really likes sokka...and wants him to be successful?? It’s a strange feeling

Katara / aang / toph would still be sokka’s own little friend group too 

Azula could be like...a professional/Olympic qualifier skater so she’s out competing at like, (inter)nationally ranked levels, and so zuko feels the need to prove himself!! But sometimes he just wants to be normal too! He’s not even sure if he LIKES skating???

AYNWAY..

omg so just when two of them are getting close there’s that competition where they both compete and ozai gives sokka new skates right before a competition that tear up his feet and sabotage his routine and sokka thinks zuko had a part in it and it SUPER betrayed because he thought something was going on between the two of them but now its just clear that zuko was using him the whole time and now his chances at sectionals are ruined. He ignores zuko’s texts and calls that night and decides it’s time to go back to being normal, physics geek sokka. 

So zuko tells off ozai, quits skating and backs out of sectionals so that sokka can take his spot. He catches sokka one day after school to tell him this, clears up the whole misunderstanding and tells him he’s taking zuko’s spot in sectionals.

They KISS of COURSE and make up but sokka’s like “but i don’t have a coach yada yada” and anyway iroh comes out of semi-retirement as a skating coach to coach sokka cause once again, f*ck ozai,  and sokka gets the silver at sections (ty lee getting gold of course) and they all live happily ever after

Natsuya’s gf has a lot of t-shirts that are large ish and baggy on her because they’re comfy. He will ocationally borrow a t-shirt of hers when he’s over at her place, just as she would one of his when over at his place. Btw, said shirts are baggy on her but very nice and form-fitting on him 🥵😏. Gf is watching tv in her living room and Natsuya grabbed one of her t-shirts and his jeans getting ready one morning after spending the night, doesn’t really think anything of it. Natsuya came out wearing THIS and had absolutely no clue why his gf is now on the floor, with tears, dying of laughter.

The minute Haru learns what water bending is, he just devotes his life to tracking down the original Water Lion Turtle and just keeps repeating how much he loves the water and never leaving said lion turtle alone until it makes Haru a damn water bender. (Maintained his perfectly stoic face the entire time).

Gou (it’s Kou!), Mikhail, and Sokka all run THE BOULDER’s fanclub. Gou and Mikhail obviously because of the muscles and Sokka... were we ever told what about THE BOULDER he admired so much?

Rin and Zuko are anger management buddies. Became friends over their mutual hot tempers and hearts of gold. Zuko taught Rin how to do a fire-nation top-knot hair bun.

To Rin’s dismay, Gou has the biggest crush on Zuko and not just because of... even with said crush, Gou wants Aang to be happy but still hardcore ships Zutara

Rei is always in the Jasmine Dragon trying to calculate how the bending of elements is even possible. He interviews other benders but no wisdom they offer can help further his research and understanding of how bending works or how it is So BEAUTIFUL! (even though this is FREE! & ATLA I’m going to quickly make 1 OHSHC & LOK reference... Rei stressing himself out trying to compute the possibility and beauty of bending, he’s nearly at his breaking point, and Meelo [LOK] just walks up to Rei’s table and says “be the leaf.” THAT’S IT! That Was The Breaking Point! After Meelo broke Rei. Rei just has a pouty-break-down-moment-in-the-corner-of-the-jasmine-dragon-like-Tamaki-Suoh-would)

Sokka never popped the question and never got married so I’m just gonna say it. Asahi and Kisumi both probably crush💘hard on Suki.

Also not gonna lie, I can kinda see Toph falling for Makoto. She loved tormenting him with pranks at first but she can tell when someone is lying and that boy doesn’t have an ounce of bad in him so she developed a pebble size crush. Makoto could never express how amazing he finds her ability to see with her feet and wanted to help her learn to swim a little better. He will always hold her when he tries to share the water with her. Even if Toph will never be able to see the sky (once Makoto taught her how to float on her back) he was able to teach her how to find him, even if her ears were full of water and her feet weren’t touching the bottom of the pool. Makoto taught Toph how to not be scared of the water (even if he still struggles with the ocean). He taught her to use her feet to kick and feel for other waves and ripples in the water to tell where he was in the pool. She learned to sense vibration in the water similar to how she does with earth; the picture may not be as clear but it’s something! Eventually, even if Toph’s feet weren’t touching the bottom of the pool, she could find Makoto before he even had the chance to say Marco. I went a little overboard on that one huh?

Nagisa followed Aang on a trip to Kiyoshi Island to ride the elephant koi. Aang tried to warn Nagisa about the Unagi but Nagisa saw that as a challenge and rode the Unagi like a freaking champ, laughing the entire time. After coming ashore, the small town of Kiyoshi was happy to welcome back the Avatar and all in awe with Nagisa’s Unagi skills. They ran into one person that changed everything though... Nagisa COULD NOT FOR THE LIFE OF HIM contain his laughter the first time he met Foaming Mouth Guy (FMG). As an apology for laughing, whenever Aang and Nagisa leave Kiyoshi island, Nagisa leaves some Iwatobi Surprise Bread for FMG with a note saying how tasty it is and that FMG really should eat after passing out like that.

In the Earth Kingdom, I picture Momo (taro-Mikoshiba, not everyone’s favorite flying lemur) fanboying the f*ck over Bosco the Bear. Bosco is unimpressed.

Seijuro and Ty Lee would be an interesting couple.

Does anyone remember Song? The girl Zuko briefly felt empathy for when she showed her leg and said the fire nation hurt her too. She had a heart of gold and I can see her with Ikuya.

Hiyori secretly falls for Mai and her badass knives.

I’ve rambled on for so long that anyone still reading this is probably scared-smiling like Joo Dee.

Out of all of this, there is one thing I am sure of. At the end of the day, when all of our favorite characters from FREE! and ATLA get together for a massive pool party - a game of chicken fight will break out. And we all know what will happen if Chit-Sang loses a game of chicken fight... (probably uses sweet innocent Nitori because he was the closest)
