HEY YOU Hit me with some Julie Su propoganda cuz I'm mostly lukewarm on her character and don't know all that much about her.

OK OK ... well baseline info she's the daughter of dark legion general luger, and half sister of lien-da and kragok, who are twins and both high ranking legion soldiers. when their mother (merin-da) died and luger remarried, ld and kragok hated his new wife (julie-su's mother) (mari-su) so bad they orchestrated her death, info which was they kept on the DL for a long time until js eventually found out about it. memory situation, js is raised by other folks who actually love her and doesn't learn who her blood family is until later. she joins knuckles because she feels inexplicably drawn to him (soul touch) (echidna soulmates) so she defects from the legion to join the chaotix. the soul touch thing sucks and i hate it but this is how it goes. ill talk about my au version of her at the end lol bc things ive built on top of canon are part of the reason why shes one of my fave charas in the series lul

ANYWHO i honestly find it pretty frustrating when people talk about js as just being pink knuckles, shoehorned into the story to give knuckles an obligatory girlfriend, because it really demonstrates that they like. weren't paying a lick of attention to anything because she genuinely has a LOT of personality but since people just go in anticipating anything penders touched to suck they don't even bother to think about her for longer than half a second.

js fills a niche that, imo, could always use filling, especially with regards to girl characters, which is to say shes a well meaning asshole. shes incredibly blunt, she's pessimistic (immediately assumes knuckles must be dead when enerjak returns and they cant find him, tells knuckles not to search a fallen ship that his mother was on because shes probably dead and she doesnt think he'd want to see that). shes terrible at handling interpersonal conflict (knuckles confesses to her that he feels guilty and stressed over all the pressure put on him as guardian and she scolds him and says "this isn't just about you", which results in a minor shouting match when she really had zero intention of starting an argument), she's almost constantly beefing with vector (tbf its because hes sexist he refuses to see past her history as a member of the dark legion). these might suond like cons but i love characters like this LOL and they fit especially well in archie where people love to get mad at each other and make dumb mistakes and it just feels very genuine and interesting and endearing to me. shes rough and difficult but she's also DEEPLY loyal. she'd die for knuckles and the chaotix and the way she interacts with them always makes me soooo ........ im just gonna give some examples i can find.

^ this was the genuine conclusion of an argument they had and im obsessed with it because both of them suck with emotions so they both give the worlds strangest apology and know that the other means it and they move on. plus putting her arm in front of SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG while theyre confronting eggman even after watching him CHAOS BLAST, primarily because she feels like this is more her fight than his (its about knuckles).

theres def more and i could find them if i was more on top of archie but unfortunately im #narutopilled rn. BUT ANYWAYS. shes just a very fun character with a messy personality and fun interactions and she loves her buddies sm even tho she bickers with them. shes just very special. she fits well with knuckles in a way that makes their relationship actually feel plausible instead of just forcing him to have a girlfriend (tho ofc the writing is fumbled sometimes like. ITS ARCHIE. bffr. but thats the case with literally everything ever in archie so you take what you can and its amazing). also see below. BASED AS FUCKKKKKKK

and ill discuss my au briefly bc u r asking me my opinion on js and that does play a large role in how i feel abt her, but rly im just expanding on elements of her story that werent discussed as fully as i wouldve liked. her relationship with lien-da is obviously BAD in canon, but theres not a lot of time spent lingering on precisely how lien-da and kragok feel about julie-su as the product of their fathers second marriage to a woman they KILLED because they hated her so much. ive also given her much more internal strife over turning away from the legion, originally joining the chaotix planning to betray them from the inside then being slowly convinced to join them for real after realizing how much she'd been brainwashed by the legion and what its like to have people who truly love and care about you. her story as someone who is trying to find herself outside of her history as a child soldier is something that TOTALLY deserves to be expanded on and its a bit sad that it wasnt explored. but i mean really im not changing her actual PERSONALITY at all because as i discussed shes oozing with it.... im honestly never going to make the full comic i wanted to so at some point im just going to compile all the lore and concept art and stuff into one big post to share. but thats like a spoiler free taste.

she also has a gun. which is fucking awesome because not enough sonic characters have guns. people make shadow the guy with a gun but he hasnt been seen with one since shth. hello....

My buddy @robotarmjokes has been having a rough time of it, I’ve been planning random gifts left and right anyways... So here’s an impromptu gift just for her. :’>

Rhys just wants his girl to feel better~

Getting back home always felt like a relief for Rhys. It was the signal of the end of another workday, a bit of downtime... More “plotting” for the wedding (only so much was agreed upon together, but- he had to admit- the mysteries just made it all the more exciting to look forward to!) and generally, just officially allowed to pamper his fiancee without being that guy.

Even if he was the CEO and liked to benefit from that role more than any good leader should...well, some things don’t go to the broom closest like TV shows would like you to believe, let’s say.

Still, seeing the place darker than usual had his greeting die in his throat, looking around lost for a moment. The lights? Where was D? It was so late, you’d think she would’ve put the lights on by now... Sniffles alarmed him, kicking off his shoes in an awkward rush and following the sound back into the bedroom, where he found her curled up, facing the headboard and shoulders shaking.

...Oh. So this is why she texted him she was leaving work early? It wasn’t uncommon for D to pack up on leisure (he assured her twenty times over it was alright beforehand), but... Now his heart hurt.

D was upset and he hadn’t thought to make sure she was okay... Agh, what an idiot! Well, he’s home now, so... Rhys padded over, watching her the whole way. She didn’t react until he sat down, freezing, but still sniffling. He put it aside to wiggle up, until he was spooning her; arm draped over her middle and cheek resting on the back of her head. (Internally, he cursed his lanky limbs; they still hung off the bad and surely the seams of his pants would yet etch themselves into the sides of his knees and calves.)

“...So. How’re you doing, D?” A simple start. Nothing too much for her and gauging how things were. Always a good place to start.

“Pretty shit, actually,” she mumbled, giving a short, curt laugh. “Feelin’ pretty worthless. Like I should just...give up again. Stay alone, for everyone else’s sake...and my own.” Her voice cracked at the end, body shifting a little as she tried to wipe the returning tears away.

He hated this. What that person had done to her... It was especially haunting her now. So many times... He couldn’t be upset at her, rather, the past circumstances that made her so anxious. Every nice word being buried under the fear that it might be another well thought out lie. Every pleasant touch a fear that it’ll turn into sweeping, angry gestures.

Everything kind had been turned into a fear that it masked a deeper hatred and Rhys... Well, cliche as it is, he always did wish for the ability to take that away. Make it easier for her. Yet all he can do is press kisses into her hair, hold her closer, and make himself into the snake they both joked he was.

“You’re not worthless, babe... You’re wonderful. I know you have lots of difficulties believing that, but it’s true. I promised you then and I promise you now.” A kiss to her ear had her shiver and he huffed a laugh, but didn’t pester her any more on that. “Besides, I’ve heard pleasant conversations about you from co-workers--”

“Oh fuck, they talk about me...?” DL groaned, tilting her head into the mattress, but Rhys just took it as an invite to kiss her shoulder through the t-shirt she was wearing.

“Only good things, don’t worry... You know you’re inspiring people to get cool hairstyles? I swear it’s true.”

“...Huh. Sounds like a load a’ shit.”

“It’s true. I wouldn’t lie to you, remember?” She sighed deeply, then nodded a little. Not moving her head, though. At least she was sniffling less... One step at a time.

“...Don’t think you should be alone, though,” he continued, his voice dropped into a low, quiet rumble as he shifted to perch up on his elbow; his free hand stroking through D’s bright pink hair. “You’re going to make lots of people lonely, you know that, sweetheart?” When D only hummed in response, he continued. “I heard you’ve made a good friend in that, uh...person from R&D. They really like talking to you... Hell, I’m surprised they haven’t stolen the PA system from me to announce how cool you are.”

Rhys had to laugh a little at that. The excitable little scientist had been found on Pandora, apparently an ex-Hyperion scientist, of all things... Quickly became the head of the R&D branch with all their knowledge and downright spoiled DL with friendship whenever she went over to visit. Honestly it was...really nice to see. Having a vocal friend like that... Even Rhys noticed the confidence boost D got from that.

Though in a time like this...it’s stubbornness and cuddles from the CEO himself that’s gonna have to save the day!!

“I ‘unno... I guess they’re pretty cool...”

“I’d say. You know how much happier and confident you’ve gotten being friends with them? I’m...honestly amazed.” A small laugh leaves her and Rhys brightens up. Ah, progress!! “You notice that?”

“...A little,” she admits quietly, head finally moving back to the side. “Like, yeah, most of the time I still feel like I’m super annoying and I talk too much or what have you, but... They’re really supportive of me? And they, uh...” D paused, seemingly embarrassed, before admitting, “They actually, like...encourage me to gush about you? To them? And it’s really sweet of ‘em. So I appreciate that.”

“...First of all, exactly. I’m proud of you, but...” He can’t stop the grin, ECHO eye definitely lighting up a little. “You gush about me to others~?”

“Ooooohhh, don’t think too much of it. Your ego’s fine,” she scoffs, giving a pat to his arm, but Rhys is already laughing in delight. That’s great!!! And she admitted to it!!!!!! His night’s been made, that’s for sure. (And judging by the little smile he sees peeking from behind pink hair, he knows its got her feeling a tad better, too.)

“...Hey, D? Can you look at me for a second?”

“Noooooo.”

“Oh? Why?”

“Cause I probably look super gross, hah. I’ve been crying for, like... I don’t even know? Awhile, at least.” Ouch, his heart. Well, now he needs her to look at him!

“Your face isn’t gross,” he assures, kissing a hair-covered cheek. “I’ve seen you cry before and you’re still cute. A messy cutie and I’ll kiss it forever.” A pause. “...Am I doing words right? That sounded infinitely better in my head, I think-”

“It’s fine,” D sighed, then wiggled a bit so Rhys would scoot back a bit, so she could roll over on her back. He’d help brush away the pink strands on her face, noting quietly those red eyes and patchy-red cheeks... Leaning down to kiss them both, then her nose, and finally, her lips. Pleased at the brighter red now glowing on her face.

“...There you go,” he murmured, flopping back down. Back went his arm over her stomach, but now with the addition of his leg over her own. (Maybe that will help his limbs. He can’t wait for pajama pants and laying over the bed the right way so his legs aren’t vibrating like they feel they are.) “It’s really alright. It’s a dark time, you know. Things are going to get better. We got the wedding soon, buncha friends are gonna be there... We could go to R&D later? Together? See what weird things your friend is making...”

“Don’t let them hear you say that,” D mumbled and they both laughed at the image of their indignant face overhearing Rhys call her babies “weird things”.

The laughter died pleasantly, quiet reigning for awhile, before D murmured, “You really think it’ll be alright? That I should, like, stick around? Cause I don’t wanna be a bother and I’m worried-”

“-about the lies. I know, babe. But don’t let that jerkwad control you even now. Um, sorry to interrupt, though.” Another kiss and an awkward grin. “Really, just... Trust them. I mean, maybe not everyone- Pandora is still kinda a shitty place- but hey! You’ve got some good friends that are cool! I screen out a vast majority of jerks... Atlas: Better Than Hyperion, as I say...”

“Pffftt, since when?” Rhys breathed in, paused... Then hummed slightly.

“Well, since...tonight, I guess. But it counts!”

“You’re a dork,” D shot at him, tired, but amused smile on her face. He beamed, fluttering his lashes at her. (Trying- and failing- to not grin when even that seemed to fluster her.)

“But I’m your dork~?”

“...Well, yeah, you are.” She laughed a little and Rhys took another chance to kiss her, stroking her hair.

“...You feeling better, babe?”

“Yeah... A little.”

“A good start,” he hummed, kissing her cheek and his robotic hand smoothing over D’s cheek. “Well, I’m...going to get changed. And I welcome more cuddling, but we should move. My legs hanging off the bed’s edge have been killing my circulation, babe.”

“Wh-? Why didn’t you tell me?!?”

“Cause I love you and you needed to vent more than my legs need blood flow,” Rhys declared, shooshing D with a smooch. “Now give me a bit and we’ll get some tea, I’ll get changed...and we’ll be comfy and relax, alright? I love you, D.”

“...Love you too, Rhys.”

Of course, dear. Here you go:

A: How did you come up with the title to Variations on atheme?

Coming up with a title for that ficwas a nightmare because, at the time, I was thinking about it as a one-shot, Ididn’t know I would be writing more of that story but somehow now I feel thetitle I chose back then will still be a good summary for the installments tocome.

Variations on a theme, as a title,reflects upon the similarities between Hanzo and Amelie in their path to redemptionand that no matter how different the circumstances, they are standing in thesame exact place now.

E: If you wrote a sequel to Business what would it beabout?

Well, at the end of the fic, Mercykeeps a sample of Erron Black’s blood so I’m guessing I’d go that way; I’d makeher analyze that sample, now free of Reaper’s ambition, and I’d make her sufferlots while trying to find the key to everlasting youth (probably gettingobsessed by it a little, maybe?)

F: Share a snippet from one of yourfavorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

She broke the embrace butthe look in her eyes was cold as ice. His honesty had wounded her. His wordshad hurt her.

“You are the embodiment ofsecond chances, Amélie,” he went on, trying his best to make her see that hiswords weren’t meant to hurt her, “you make me believe that if you can find yourplace in this world after everything you’ve been through – then maybe I cantoo.”

She stood up and kicked herrifle off the cliff – the weapon disappeared in the blue waters, never to befound again.

“You’re only doing what’seasier for you – you’re living your life through somebody else’s life.” Shestated coldly. It was impossible for the shaken man to tell if she was actuallyangry at him or not – a curtain of dull grey had taken over her face,masquerading her every emotion. “Learn from your mistakes, archer. You’vealready been here before, you’ve already lived your life according to the plansthe Shimada clan had for you when you should have lived your life; you shouldhave been the man you wanted to be, not the man they needed you to be. Goingdown that road should have already proven to you that choosing the easy way outalways brings the hardest, most difficult repercussions.”

I especially like that dialogue because Hanzo isopening up and placing his hopes on her and she basically slaps him hard acrossthe face with her words. Her reply is a huge “you should be your own hope, findyour own way”

G: Do you write yourstory from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

100% depends on the story. For Debris I need to go frombeginning to end but for Variations I’m a mess of random scenes.

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading orwriting)?

Not until recently. A couple monthsago I had to stay at home for like a week (pharyngitis) and I began browsingthrough the anime section on Netflix until I found Diabolik Lovers and Iwatched the entire first season in a matter of hours. I didn’t know a thingabout DL back then, (now I know about the games, the cds, the manga, etc thoughI’m far from being an expert, I’m merely nosing around and I still feelconflicted about it because I like it, but I’m not really sure why…)

When I watched that first season Ifound really good characters with debatable character development, especiallythe heroine. So I turned to fanfic as soon as I had the chance. Now I even havea to-read list.

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care toshare?

For the second part of Variations ona Theme, Genji is going to have a fundamental role. I’m working on a darkerversion of him that can’t seem to fully forgive his brother. He might seem calmon the surface but if you scratch a little, things get messy… the premise beingthat Genji lost so much more than his body after the fight; he lost someonevery special to him and, to this day, Hanzo still doesn’t know a thing aboutit. Seeing Hanzo and Amelie is gonna make him snap though Genji’s backstorywill be explored at a later installment and not in the second one.

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an“architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus lettingthe story unfold as you go?)

I plan in advance. I could even tellyou, today, what the ending for Debris is going to be like and every singleevent that will unfold in between for that ending to happen. I got notes everywhere,entire scenes outlined that are waiting on the back burner… but I also let thestory surprise me when it needs to as long as it doesn’t compromise theoriginal plot I have planned for that story.

Arsene Wenger inexplicably benched Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal's big game against Liverpool on Saturday, then claimed his decision was a tactical one. As it turns out, that might not be true -- Sanchez was reportedly benched for bad behavior in training last week.

Wenger has continued to try to protect his player in the aftermath of that story leaking, calling those reports "completely false." His willingness to make himself look like a dunce in order to deflect criticism away from a player is admirable.

Sanchez and Wenger shook hands at training on Monday, but very few are buying that they've kissed and made up. Gunners legend Ian Wright says he'd leave if he was Sanchez, while Arsenal blog The Short Fuse thinks there are some deeper issues at play than a fight at training.

And well... shouldn't there be? Arsenal is underperforming in the league for the 12th year running. As football journalist Tony Barrett points out, if any club needs a top player to get angry and refuse to accept the status quo, it's Arsenal.
