A very stressed out contractor, "A", writes in to a random workplace advice column asking how to handle the fact that his coworker "L" is having an affair with someone at a company they contract with and is receiving preferential treatment, along with his team. Unfortunately, he did not pick a very professional or helpful advice columnist to ask.

Hello everyone last night at about 9 PM a few people suggested this on discord and then I wrote, edited, and posted it in the ensuing 2.5 hours. My hands hurt. Please appreciate this fic.

So Queen of Attolia is like really screwed up right?

Yeah it is!! I read that in 7th grade and it Changed me, and a lot of people, I imagine. If you’ve only read the thief, please turn back now and read the rest of the series so you don’t get spoilered!! (Unless you really love spoilers in which case, go wild)

You haven’t reblogged my post yet, I wonder why?

There’s a host of reasons, but the biggest ones are that

There’s like 20 possible ways to tag the words “the Queen’s Thief” and I don’t check every one of them every day so there’s a decent chance I just haven’t checked that tag in a few days. General turnaround for reblogging, assuming I haven’t gotten sick or bogged down with homework and disappeared for a month, is about five days, though it’s often a shorter time period than that.

It hasn’t shown up in a tag bc tumblr is a hellscape and I don’t know if things get dropped from the tags more often for qt or if I just notice it more bc I’m constantly in the tags, but it’s a regular occurrence and nobody has any idea how to fix it, certainly not tumblr.

I am on here very sporadically for a lot of reasons unfortunately and there’s a chance i just missed it.

Its been a week and you still haven’t reblogged it, so I’m thinking tumblr ate it. How do I make sure you’ve seen it?

You can @ the blog. Its what the @ function is for and you’re making my life a lot easier, so don’t feel guilty for using it! You can use the @ either in the original post or reblog it with an @, whatever you like best.

What is Queen’s Thief Week and how do I know when it is/what the themes are?

Queen’s Thief Appreciation Week is a little celebration this blog runs every year. The tentative plans and dates are here but its still up in the air. Watch this space for more info!

What is UP with the tags?

The ' and the ‘ are two separate tags and your keyboard on a desktop defaults to ' but the iPhone defaults to ‘ so it causes lots of confusion. More on that here.

I heard something about short stories?

Yes, there’s six total, one of them is free on MWT’s site, the others were extras in various releases of the books. You can find more information on that here.

How old is Gen/Helen/Sophos/Irene/literally anyone?

🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ MWT is Not Telling but we can of course guess from context clues to the ages. There’s a few posts floating around that go in detail.

How do you pronounce Eugenides?

Just feel it in your heart and go hog wild bro that’s what I did when I was 10 and that’s what I’m sticking with.

I noticed you are not super active on here. Why is that?

Character Opinion Meme: Attolia (Queen’s Thief)

I got tagged by @attoliasirenides! So I’ll be doing the meme. =D Thanks for tagging me! Your answers were great, and I know you were wishing for a discussion, but I really don’t know how to do that on Tumblr. I’m more comfortable with long discussions on LJ where, you know, discussions are actually supported. But alas! Here we see the limitations of micro-blogging.

Everyone pretty much says so, right? I would actually really appreciate a moment when she’s Irene and not Attolia, and people still call her beautiful. I don’t think we had one of those.

hogwarts house: Guys, I know this is close to blaspheme but I haven’t read Harry Potter. I will, I promise. I’m getting old, and I think I’ve dodged the bandwagon for far too long now.

best quality: There’s so much I love about Irene/Attolia, but I think the best part of her, and the part that really breaks my heart, is how self-sacrificial she is. She’d give her heart, her soul, her sanity to protect her country. Even if she has to do terrible things (terrible things I would never approve of in real life, ofc, but this is fiction, thank goodness) she didn’t want, she still did it to save her people.

worst quality: This is hard, because I feel like her worst qualities (paranoia, lack of trust, ruthlessness) were ingrained in her by her circumstances, and in the case of Relius, her mentor. I don’t think it’s inherent. Oh, here’s one. She slapped Gen several times, and I didn’t think he deserved it. I know, Gen is pretty much asking for a slap/punch a lot of times, but the times she did it I felt he didn’t deserve it that much. I guess I don’t like how she takes out her anger and frustration on him, just because he catches her off guard. It’s not fair to him, and poor boy is traumatized already. I mean, we can come up with all the reasons why she did it, but I can also admit that reasons don’t make excuses, and it was still unkind of her to do it.

ship them with: Eugenides. Just him. I’m kinda strange in that I usually just ship a pair, and never ship them with anyone else. Not just in this fandom, but in all my fandoms. I know, weird. Makes it hard when I run into a lot of notps because I have attachment issues, gah. On the bright side, it’s less exhausting, and considering how heavily-baggaged these two already are, I could do with less exhaustion.

needs to stay away from: Nahuseresh. And probably MoW too because I think he’s still furious with her.

misc. thoughts: I love her. I think that’s pretty clear from uhm... all the fanworks I’ve done, hah.

I was tagged to do this about two and a half centuries ago by @lifethe-universe-andeverything and have now shown up late with lipstick and a latte to complete the task.

1. Nicknames: I usually go by Queens here on tumblr and have been known on occasion to also answer to Messy. However, if anybody irl tries to call me by a nickname like a shortened version of my actual name, please expect death.

2. Gender: Gender is a social construct and time doesn’t exist...

3. Star Sign: Pisces (unfortunately)

4. Height: 5’ 8 and 1/2“ (YES, the 1/2 DOES matter...)

7. Favorite Bands: WHERE DO I START??!?!?!?!? Right at this exact moment I am listening to the some of the best of Queen so I have to put them on the list, I will always love my boys Il Volo, I love me some Bastille, I’m a fan of Panic! at the Disco, and I know that there are a ton of bands that I’m forgetting but because I can’t think of them atm I’ll leave the list here.

8. Favorite Solo Artists: THIS IS ALSO REALLY DIFFICULT!!!!!! I have music tastes all over the board so it’s always SO difficult to narrow artists and songs down to favorites! I’ve been on an Elton John kick recently so I’ll start the list off with him. I am absolutely in love with Kesha’s album Rainbow and I think she’s so strong and amazing, yeah. I have been a fan of Pink for forever. Harry Styles’ self titled album is a transcendental listening experience and if you don’t believe me, he has the entire thing up on his official youtube channel so listen to it IN ORDER from start to finish and then come talk to me. Once again, I know I’m forgetting a ton of artists but in the interest of time, I’ll leave this list here.

9. Song Stuck in my Head: "Shape of You,” by Ed Sheeran because I heard it on the radio while I was washing dishes after lunch just a bit ago.

10. Last Movie I Watched: “Highschool Musical.” Sue me. I wanted to see what all the talk was about. Yes, I am no longer a teen and this was the first time in my life I’d seen this movie. At least now I know what all those “Wildcats!” jokes are about...

11. Last Show I Watched: Season 3 of Brooklyn Nine Nine AND I STILL HAVEN’T FINISHED IT AND I’M STILL BITTER ABOUT THAT FACT

13. What do I Post: I created this to be a Queen’s Thief only side-blog but it is currently a wreck of personal posts, relapse coping mechanisms, university-stress-garbage, and an infinitesimal smattering of mildly qt related things. Sorry friends...

26. Dream Job: I used to want to be a fashion designer until I realized that I would actually need to get a job someday. I’ve wanted to be a singer since I was like 4 or 5 years old. I went through a phase where I was sure I would be an actress someday. A little part of me wants to sing on Broadway, either as the first woman to play Alexander Hamilton or as Velma Kelly. I guess my dream job right now would be to play Attolia Irene in a screen adaptation of The Queen’s Thief.

2 comments: first I can't imagine the type of people who legit leave comments CORRECTING stuff in the fic, but it does figure it would be people who are not actually as well versed as they think they are

I don't mind it when it's an honest mistake or point of confusion (like, I got an Italian plural wrong in a Borgias fic and I appreciate the person who let me know!), but it is deeply annoying (for me, anyway) to be lectured about my fic being "wrong" because it doesn't incorporate someone's preferred canon byproduct or fanon derived from it.

P&P 1995 + Star Wars Expanded Universe fandoms are especially bad about this, in my experience. No matter how clearly I say "my SW fic is based on the films and scripts only" there's always someone who's like "well actually in the novelization" or whatever.

Second, #19 please keep queen of Attolia on your thoughts……….

Oh, it is! I've got a page of pretty straightforwards Gen/Irene fic already written, so I didn't think of it for #19 purposes :D

I'm re-reading The Queen of Attolia (i.e. reading it aloud to my mother when we're on car trips) and also working on the chapter of my f/f Darcy/Elizabeth fic where f!Darcy arrives, and it's like... taking active effort to avoid cross-pollination, lol.

Please please please tell me more Queen's Thief thoughts! (What was the fic premise?)

I read both The Thief and The Queen of Attolia not long ago and I'm trying to restrain myself from obsessing over Irene/Eugenides and the perfect proportions of sweet to wtf amidst a fantastic setting and cast. The fic was just a brief one about him having fractured dreams of her after their marriage. I'm resisting the urge to trawl AO3, out of fear of spoilers, but I really want more QoA-era fic ;_;

Hmm, let's see. Normally, I'm constitutionally incapable of keeping my plans to myself. Oh! I don't know if I'll post this one, and I've only written a little of it, but it has a simple summary:

Eugenides dreams of Irene.

Is there a fic concept you have that you’d like to just explain and share because you’re not sure you’ll ever write it? If so, what is it?

Once, I had the idea of writing a really long Númenor fic following some influential female characters throughout its history, both canon characters and OCs or quasi-OCs (i.e. characters who must exist but we know nothing about).

IIRC, the sweeping narrative was going to include Ithíriel, Elros's loremaster wife (OC); their canon daughter, Princess Tindómiel, and her establishment of the noble house at Eldalondë (in my headcanon); Tar-Telperiën and specifically my headcanon about the rescue of the Elves canonically happening during her reign; Princess Belzîrân (OC), the iron-willed older sister of Ar-Gimilzôr who was prepared to fight him for the throne and died in mysterious circumstances; Anárien of Eldalondë (OC), a politically active descendant of Tindómiel and contemporary of Inzilbêth who is among those deported to Rómenna; and Azruphel (OC), a late, initially pro-King's Men scholar who is increasingly horrified by her faction and ultimately defects to the Faithful.
