Ok can i be completely honest right now? This fandom has a huge issue. A huge whitewashing issue.

Now before you say: "Oh but legos dont have races! Thats why theyre yellow!!" You dont only need skin color to imply a characters ethnic background. You can also do that with the characters other features like hair, eyes, lips or even stuff like their name. And thats exactly what dreamzzz does.

The most common characters i see whitewashed are Zoey and Logan. I absolutely NEVER see Zoey drawn black, even tho 1. She has twists (which some people draw them as just a side shave) and 2. Her last name is Okoro, indicating she could be igbo.

As with Logan it goes a bit deeper than that. As the issue takes two forms: 1. When its him being drawn white and 2. When its him being drawn asian, but extremely pale.

First, him being drawn white is obviously an issue because he is canonically asian. His last name is Chan (a surname with chinese origin), he is voiced by Vincent Tong and he is designed to look visibly asian.

(And before anyone says its eyeliner i found another character with the exact same eye print)

People often draw him slightly tan with eurocentric features and call him asian. Who the fuck are you deceiving.

Now with the pale issue: this is also an issue i see around in the ninjago fandom. East asian characters liked by the fandom are drawn to appeal to the beauty standards while the ones hated by the fandom are drawn like actual east asian people. Altough Logan is the only east asian character in the show that we currently know of, this does apply to him. And him being pale wouldnt even make sense! He is a soccer and baseball player! That kid plays in the sun for hours!

And Logan isnt even the only asian character that constantly gets whitewashed. Take a look at fanart of Nova! If i didnt tell you, you probaly wouldnt even know shes south asian! In her insomniac club shorts its revealed her last name is Patel, an indian surname btw, yet i dont see ANYONE give a fuck cause i only see white Nova everywhere.

And yes! Mateo and Izzy are also victims of this aswell! Mateo's locs are never drawn right and i see people draw him like 1 shade darker than the others and call him black 😭. Izzie is white washed aswell and sometimes, only her and NOT MATEO?? HUH??? They are siblings 😭😭

Anyways, the moment the fandom actually learns how to depict the characters, we will finally be free.

loves you a lot and i think she subconsciously leans into you when you guys are walking together or sitting with one another; especially if youre taller than her (very likely). while i dont think theres anyone in the circus whos mean enough to bodyshame you (yes this includes jax), on the chance that someone is being mean to you for whatever reason, shes going to do her best to try to stand up for you. very soft, cuddling before was already a must but i think she enjoys your extra softness.. on days where you feel a little more self conscious than normal, regardless of this is about your digital body or this is an au that takes place in the real world, i think she would sheepishly list off the things she loves about you <3

JAX:

borrowing that last idea from pomnis idea, i think he would struggle with trying to make you feel better about yourself. its not that he doesnt care about you or your problems, its just that jax isnt the best at comforting or uplifting people... though you know that early spongebob episode where squidward gets on that dudes ass for yelling at spongebob and making him cry? the pizza episode? honestly i think if theres something like that going on, he tries to solve it the same way squidward did. being blunt and rude with the dickhead, or perhaps targeting them for his pranks and making them nastier than usual... but to be blunt with you and be comforting? thats going to be rare and to be successful is even rarer... i dont think jax would be a big enough asshole to make comments about your weight, regardless of if its your digital body or real one, we dont stand for that here...

So idk if you read some of my svsss posts, I recommend reading those before this one, although you can read this and unsterstand so follow your heart.

Im a big MXTX fan, and I think svsss is one of the best pieces of literature ever written. One of the resons for it is bc of how it reflecs MXTX s own story.

In case you didnt read svsss, in it we have a character called Shang QingHua. He's and author, who had to change his story in order to gain money to survive. And to do so, what did he do?

In case you didnt know, sex scenes and explicit books have incresed in the book industry, and are one of the genres that has been popping this years. This makes total sence, as sex always sells. The sex industry is one who never falters and is always growing, bc although people can always doubt when spending money on things, human beings have proven to always be willing to spend money on sex.

I'm not making this up, and its not a phenomenon exclusive to the book industry. Look it up if u want to

Svsss is a transmigration story, where the protagonist is sent to a novel he has to fix after it was ruined bc the author had to adapt to the demands of fans in order to gain enough money to keep living.

And authors making changes to their stories, to appease fans, is nothing new. But we have to adress the implicantions of having those changes being about sex.

Idk if you noticed, svsss isnt big on sex scenes. After her first book though, MXTX writes mdzs. And that, thats a kinky book.

Like im sorry. Im sorry to all mdzs fans. But from all the mxtx works, that book has the most sexual scenes, the most weird ones, many with a tint of dubious consent. And oc those have a lot to do with the story characters. Like yeah, wangxian are like that. They need therapy, we know.

Mdzs is a much more sexual novel that svsss. In svsss, let me know if im wrong, but there just one sex scene lol, and is "papapa to save the world".

After this novel, mxtx publishes mdzs. And guess which novel made mxtx famous?

Im not saying svsss is better that mdzs or anything like that. Or that mdzs is worth less bc it has sex scenes. All mxtx's novels are masterpieces. But you know whats a masterpiece?

Mxtx making a book about author including sex in their books to appease fans, then making a book with explicit sexual scenes, AND THEN BECOMING FAMOUS THANKS TO THAT BOOK.

And before anyone tells me mdzs didnt make mxtx famous. Mdzs has a donghua, a manghua, and a live action. After mdzs, tgcf has a manghua, a donghua, a live action is being made, etc.

Svsss has a badly done donghua. Svsss is the least popular book of mxtx.

You can say mxtx was shy, or building herself as an author, and didnt add any sex scenes in svsss bc it was her first book and she was establishing herself. But, after mdzs, what did she do? What did se do in Heavily Officials Blessing?

No sex scenes. None. A pure love story. Hints of the act happening? Yes. The issue isnt with characters having sex or not. The issue is adding pornography to a novel thats not about that, to increase sells.

Im not saying what se did is wrong! Im glad she did. It was thanks to what she wrote in mdzs, that she became famous, and i got to know her work. She did what se had to do. Authors nowadays do what they have to do.

But she made a fkng novel about an author adding sex scenes to become famous, AND THEN SHE HAD TO DO IT.

my girl so good at analyzing society she caught proves her own theory. Best contemporay fiction author in the world and i will fight anyone on that.

so im pretty excited abt ur abo kp fic which is new to me bc i normally dont care abt abo? this isnt shade or bullshit btw i hope i just wanted to ask how u conceptualize gender and sex in abo? tags on the notfic r 100% right btw more trans abo. im always put off by most abo for the idea that cis male omegas basically?? have a cloacae for an anus but also a dick? it feels too alien for a non paranormal genre. do u think anatomy ought to be addressed more or left to suspension of disbelief?

right straight off the bat we're putting this one behind a readmore, because i don't want to wig anyone out. a/b/o be weird.

essentially, the way i conceptualise a/b/o and how gender and sex work is:

male/female - usually identifiable at birth, with obviously some grey area in there for intersex people.

alpha/beta/omega - surfaces during puberty, at which point the body changes in whichever way the subgender inclines.

i usually write it that it's not really possible to tell how someone's subgender will present until it does, because i think the inherent tension between "this is how i was treated growing up" vs. "this is how people treat me now" gives the most room for social commentary, and character growth, which is one of my favourite parts of a/b/o. so everyone's body has the base potential to go any subgender way.

relatedly, one of my least favourite tropes in a/b/o is the trope where a character unexpectedly discovers they're an omega and they hate it and take drugs to make themselves a beta, and they wish they were a beta/alpha and as a reader i just have to sit there like, and the logical ending to this story ISN'T that they're trans????

in fact, this trope irritated me so much that i fully outlined and started writing an original fic where the main character gets the whoops! all omega! reveal and instead of hating it and hiding it, feels fulfilled and more comfortable in himself, because it enables him to put into words and be accepted for aspects of his gender identity that have existed his entire life.

ahem. omega biology. back on track.

male omegas are one of those fandom tropes that i just... choose not to look at too closely. science brain well and truly turned off. because of how the kinnporsche mpreg fic is structured (porsche not knowing he's pregnant, and not knowing he could become pregnant) -- we're probably looking at assbabies for that one, though i usually prefer to go the male omegas are intersex (and female alphas are, as well) route, just because it makes most sense to me. but -- this is fanfic. things only make sparing amounts of sense 20% of the time.

truthfully, i think the question of anatomy depends on the fic. i do think there is a level of suspension of disbelief that is needed to read a/b/o, but to me that's true of all sci-fi. a lot of genre studies essays on sci-fi talk about this idea of a novum, a point of divergence that makes the sci-fi story different from our world. it can be a thing, an idea, a hypothetical. for example, in mass effect, the novum is the mass drivers. in star trek it's the warp core. in the martian, it's leaving a man behind on mars. and with sci-fi, you're not meant to question the novum. it's the foundational part of the universe. sci-fi is the question, "what if [x] was different?"

so with a/b/o, the novum is, well, it's the a/b/o dynamics. "what if human reproductive biology was on crack?" the bits i'm interested in are the answers that spiral out from that question -- i'm not really focused all that much on the question itself.

but, like i said, it depends on the fic. if the fic's question is, "so, if we do have these a/b/o dynamics, how does the biology actually work?" then obviously it's a bit more relevant. but i've only seen one or two a/b/o fic that approach the matter like that.

But I disagree with the theory that bump gardening is proof that he got his sigil taken off already; hes simply gardening and while yes we do see that his sigil isnt on his wrist, we need to keep in mind that this isnt the first time a marked character was drawn without their sigil; in fact it's not the first time bumps sigil on particular wasnt there

On top of that later, presumably within in universe seconds/minutes of owlbert flying past hexside we get to alador removing illusion kids sigil

Which, HELL YEAH, proves that sigils can be removed

But also judging by Darius' reaction, that's the first time they managed to do it successfully; its their scientific (magical?) Breakthrough

With that said, I do absolutely adore the idea of bump getting his sigil taken off and he starts messing with plant magic + I'm happy he got that sweet retirement

My bf (also in the field) found a published paper whose findings don’t actually hold because there was a unit issue and that paper had to retract and rework some of their material.
