tags on krakenartificer's post about a leverage au where nate enters the priesthood but ends up running cons for people who come to him for help anyway:
#now i need a crossover episode of catholic priest nate who's still running leverage style shenanigans #with father brown [via @trivalentlinks]
thank you for making me stare at the wall in fascination and horror about this crossover
they'd be occasional allies occasional confidantes they'd go behind each other's backs once or twice and only kinda regret it. This nate hasn't gone through the same loss as in canon, but that wouldn't make him a whole lot softer, so he'd be fundamentally irritated with father brown - his tested and unshakeable belief and his optimism about the human condition - and father brown would be generally concerned about everyone on nate's end, and nate not the least of it. They'd play chess together and be fairly well-matched. They'd visit each other's confessionals to check in.
we'd get some interesting acknowledgement of father brown's "I'm nice and simple and harmless" grift (which I could also call power negativity) which is only kind of a grift because he really is that nice and harmless beneath, except that he uses it to get information from people.
flambeau would be utterly thrilled and (playfully?) insulted not to be father brown's only criminal associate.
the leverage crew would be correctly suspicious of flambeau, I think, but sophie would greet him by name - possibly with a kiss to the cheek, possibly eyeing him like he's a viper in their midst - and reference some very improbable occasion when they were after the same prize. He mentions she was using a different name then; he doesn't say what it was. Bonus points if he also had his eye on the dagger in the Rashomon Job but had the flu / was unexpectedly in prison / had to attend a grandmother's funeral at the time.
I have this certainty in my mind that the leverage crew would be largely dismissive of sid's abilities and he'd kind of snort and roll his eyes about it - he's at worst a common criminal and very lower class, so he's used to being understimated - and surprise them with his connections or lock-picking or holding his own in a brawl or fixing an elderly car in the quickest dirtiest way imaginable. (Parker would decide she likes him then; the others would be reassured after seeing how gentle he is when talking with her.) He'd also nope out of leverage's business at a sensible time, because father brown's rubbed off on him and he doesn't actually want that kind of danger - unless the con's personal.
(I'm not sure whether to set this in leverage time or drag it back to father brown's 1950s so I'm settling for mashing the two together and pretending it's not an issue. See also: geography.)
… father brown would have I think one harrowing conversation with eliot where they mention their time in the military, the marks that killing people and losing people leaves on a person - father brown already does this in canon, tells someone it's unfair that they're mired in trauma and alcoholism when he found his faith through trauma instead, it floored me - and after brushing on repentance and god here, he wouldn't bring it up with eliot again. (I think father brown varies on this in canon, frankly, but he often respects that kind of boundary, and I think he'd recognise a wound so sore it should be left to heal however it can.)
(yes I'm playing with fictional priests like barbie dolls but no I'm not comfortable with the conversion aspects, so apologies and bear with me while I skate on past that.)
(he'd describe eliot as a good person, once, or as someone working very hard at it. Eliot would be on edge about that for the entire con, finding a little too much uneasy satisfaction in getting to knock people out and play the bad guy - play at the simpler stuff he used to do. Sophie might catch father brown for a word about it; father brown wouldn't be that clumsy again.)
I think father brown and nate would both talk bunty out of getting involved in a joint kembleford-leverage operation except in the most innocent way possible. The problem is she actually would make a good getaway driver, and she's thrilled with the idea, but she's already had some run-ins with the press and the law and can't risk another; luckily she's better used as a distraction elsewhere.
and I'm sorry to do this, but I think lady felicia's husband would be a mark or potential mark at one point. It would be fraught.
(the main reason I haven't recommended father brown's heist episode (s7e10), aside from not having a background on the politics in it, is that it shows lady felicia as a victim and pulls the heist on her behalf. The show largely convinced me to ignore the messy reality of her and her husband's inherited wealth, but that episode made me kinda uncomfortable - which is a shame, because seeing these characters pull a heist was fucking great.)
mrs mccarthy would be used against her will or knowledge as a distraction while someone's pockets are picked. She isn't told until afterwards, and then only half by accident. She is, of course, horrified. Father brown was absolutely the one to suggest it in planning, but flambeau slips in mid-apology to smoothly take the blame.
I could in fact go on and this is in fact a problem.
editing to continue:
I'm actually thinking that father brown might approach eliot from an ex-military angle and not a Religious Authority angle at all - eliot was raised protestant, after all, and it's an entirely different vibe. And I have to think eliot's guarded around father brown for the very fact that he's a priest and seems to mean it in a way that nate, I feel, wouldn't. So they may avoid the topic entirely, or as close to it as they can when brushing on, well, eliot's entire moral injury situation. Which is good news for me.
bunty would admire parker for being different and capable and getting up to exciting things, though would probably fail at any attempts at friendship until she thinks to ask what parker likes doing and ends up learning to pick pockets that evening. The second those two are around buildings tall enough to rappel down she's in danger. (The second parker can slip away at night she's giving the church a go; father brown gives her a look the night before and quietly warns her about the dodgy roof.)
mrs mccarthy decides fairly quickly that hardison is a very nice young man (his nana instincts are online and functional) even if he spends far too much time on the wretched computer. She's determined to feed him and half the time he's determined to find ways to politely refuse, though the strawberry scones are actually pretty good.
she's appalled by eliot's job, and fiercely territorial of her kitchen when he offers help, even just cleaning up, but once she's seen him get in the way of trouble she's absolutely catching his arm and half hiding behind him in any crisis real or perceived. (She still doesn't approve of him.)
lady felicia sees hardison and eliot as two very different kinds of novelties and does some talking to hardison about tech (mostly listening and marveling) and some quietly ogling both of them, and especially eliot once she's seen him fighting. (Eliot unfortunately turned on his charm when he realised she sort of expected it. She doesn't get to chat with charming southern gents all that often - it's very shallow, and she's not serious about it.)
thank goodness bunty's too young for eliot so I don't have to go there. He has to tuck her out of sight in a barn at some point when trouble's headed their way; when the mess is almost cleaned up and she's grabbed a rifle from somewhere to tell the the remaining goon to clear off, with every appearance of competence, eliot takes it from her and disarms it with a smear of blood under his nose and a slightly betrayed expression.
hardison and sid get along, aside from a little initial insecurity on the parker front, and get to bitch a bit about flambeau, who hardison mistrusts from the start.
flambeau... he admires parker, from a distance - professionally and not very effusively - but after he watches her work for a while he seems to realise who she was trained by, and tells her as much. He says he was too, for a very short time, and it's unclear if he'd gain anything from making it up. Says that he and archie had a difference of opinion - and has a way of saying it that implies there might have been fire involved.

Tw for talking about animal death under the cut
After only two years together and a slow decline, we had to make the call to help our dog Rosie pass last night when she became suddenly very ill. 😞
There is a lot to say about Rosie... we adopted her a few months after my childhood dog passed, and she was the first pet Jester and I picked out together (but being honest... it was mostly Jester's choice). Though she was a bit shocked at the shelter she was quiet and sweet and kept scratching us for pets, so we took her home.
We quickly realized she was not quiet and that she had severe emotional issues. She could hear but didn't respond to human speech, doors made her so anxious that she would yell and rip apart baby gates even if she had tons of space, and she lost a tooth during (failed) crate training. There were a lot of sleepless nights and a trip to a vet behavioralist when we decided to keep and work with her instead of rehome her. This year we realized she was likely far, far older than the vets estimated, given her beginning to lose walking in her back legs (something that can happen to elderly dogs, it happened to Jake at age 13-14 before he passed).
Getting her on anxiety meds/arthritis meds and keeping her out of crates significantly helped and for about a year she was as calm as she'd ever be, save for general anxiety, but no more late night barking. She even got used to seeing closed doors and stopped freaking out at every baby gate. Of course, then we had to deal with her anxious drinking water issue and her inability to learn how to tell us when she wanted out to pee. So we just took her out every 2-3 hours, and that generally worked with a combination of diapers and puppy pads.
She would wag her tail sometimes when she saw us, and when she was silly she'd roll around on her back but she never wanted to play. She didn't know how to be a dog. But still, when I had oatmeal on the weekend she'd sometimes come up to the couch and wag her tail, staring with her insane eyes, and then try to lick the bowl in plain sight if I put it on the table. That was the most "being a dog" she ever did, and I'm glad we were able to get her from "self destructive because she saw a baby gate on the stairs" to "naughty dog stealing oatmeal." Even if it was only for about a year.
Last night I stood her on the grass in the yard for some exercise because she never really enjoyed walks much. At dinner, she sat and shook paw the way I taught her (back when I thought she could not learn I was overjoyed she learned to do a few tricks) to get her favorite dessert, a quiche flavored dog treat. Hours later the slow decline elderly dogs get took a sharp downturn and it hit us like a train. It was immediate and got worse over a few hours.
I will spare details, but I believe it was either a stroke or a third bout of vestibular disease, but this time she was too much on the decline to come out of it alright. Even if she did we knew she would never fully recover (she didn't the first two times, always had a tilt, but happy). I believe we made the right decision. At 1am at an emergency vet we said goodbye and the anxiousness she'd carried with her for who knows how long melted away into rest and peace.
It feels good to talk about her life even in a ramble on a Tumblr post. We did the best we could to give this elderly, neurotic dog two golden years of retirement from whatever background she came from. And we may not have had a week to prepare and to cook her a big farewell dinner like Jake, but she had bacon and eggs and oatmeal and cheese for her adoption day party only a few months ago, so she at least got that. Even getting petted by so many people at the dog park, and they all gave her treats for her special day, and she was the happiest I'd seen her for a while.
We'll miss you Rosie Posie Daisy Doo. I'm glad you're not afraid and hurting anymore, and that we could be friends even if just for a little while.

= Tony Durant, the introduction =
Okay I should maybe finally introduce my idiot (affectionate) of a gunman turned bodyguard, since you gonna see him during whumptober (if I get around to writing stuff, that is). Words are a bit hard so please forgive me for the stream of consciousness dumbassery you are about to read. This is a long post, continued under the cut.
Oh and he's mostly a whumpee. Capable of both caretaker and whumper if situation calls for it.
Tumblr media
So his name is Tony Durant. It's not his real name, he's left that behind, along with any and all family he had. I'll touch on that bit later, I promise. Durant is in his early to mid thirties. Another of the things he willingly forgot was his birthday, so these days he runs around with a random date. Did I mention he has multiple identities? Yeah. Aside from Tony Durant, there are two main identities he uses, and these are Silvester Nash (outgoing and mostly normal in a socially acceptable way, specifically designed to deal with clerks and cashiers) and Mark Shughart (calm and collected with a dash of confidence, this one is for dealing with authority, especially cops).
Durant's actual personality is a dumpster fire. Well *he* is an entire dumpster fire, but we'll get to that. Earlier on in his life, he was a little gremlin, he loved to pull pranks and be a menace in general, while also highly competent and extremely skilled at his job. He was a bit reckless and fiercely protective of whoever hired him. The job being 'shoot first, ask questions later, make sure the guy who hired him is okay and happy with his performance'. Durant had two notable employers, one is Lishka (I don't know much about this one, just that they were really nice and their death fucked Durant up) and Fuchs. Fuchs deserves an entire introduction of his own, but long story short, he's a terrible boss, possessive, abusive, and generally a cunt. The one true whumper I have. You're gonna see him too. Lishka's death sent Durant into a messy two-week self-destructive spiral that ended with him breaking into Fuchs' hideout to nurse his wounds, and that's how they met. And since Durant was desperate for a new job, he signed with Fuchs. Little did he know, the next two and a half years would be living hell for him.
Sorry for that tangent, back to Durant's current personality. Over time he's developed some deep abandonment issues, since his employers have this little nasty habit of dying and of course he blames himself for it. He's paid to keep them alive, to protect them with his own body and gun, and then they croak and he's devastated. So after meeting Fuchs, he fell into his old bad habit of needing to please his boss, whatever that may entail. I'm not going to go into details because they're highly nsfw, but noncon was involved and Fuchs knew exactly what to say and do to mold Durant into whatever he wanted him to be. This entire shitshow left him with massive trust and abandonment issues, but he's slowly working through it with the help of other people. Durant doesn't outwardly judge anyone, because he likes to have a job, and he'll put up with a lot of shit, but he has his limits, if Fuchs' fate is any evidence.
Tumblr media
Appearance. Well you've seen some pictures, but that's usually just a bust. He's some 5'9", 160 pounds, lean, but soft in a few places. His face has a number of small cuts around his jawline because this dummy refuses to use a razor because they scare him. Instead, he shaves with a knife. Because those are somehow less scary. Eye color is grey (or very, very desaturated blue, if you need more realism), hair is black, rough and somehow still fluffy, reaches his shoulders and he keeps about half of it in a pony tail. Bangs obscure/hide his eyes, it's a bit of a protective measure because his eyes are very expressive and having hair in his face gives him a confidence boost. If you see his eyes, he either trusts you, or you're in deep shit. There's a nasty scar on his left thigh, up near the pelvis, the story behind it changes but usually involves a gun. And he's physically incapable of a poker face. Gun of choice is a CZ 75, manufactured in early 80s and imported after the fall of Iron Curtain. They have a bit of a bond and Durant feels like the gun is talking to him. Durant's greatest virtue and fatal flaw are loyalty. He's willing to follow his boss to the very ends of the earth if it means he'll be allowed to stay. Uh what else... Yeah he's pretty much hanging on by a thread.
Tumblr media
Oh and I forgot, he's technically homeless, owns very little possessions (essentially just the clothes on his back, a lighter, several packs of cigarettes, some cash, his gun, and some ammo to feed the thing), travels by train and sleeps in the shittiest, seediest motels he can find. When he's working, he stays with his employer as much as he can, which means free shelter. Oh yeah and he smokes sort of heavily, like pack and a half a day. Cigarettes help him refocus, his mind tends to wander and lighting one requires some focus, even when the movements are mostly automatic. Oh and he's bi, with a preference towards men. But if he cares enough about someone, he's not picky (looking at you, Lishka.)
I gotta admit, I got the idea for Durant because I read a Lupin III fanfic called Karakuri Ningyō (please heed the tags if you decide to read it) and I liked how the author portrayed Jigen's circumstance. Another inspiration came from the series called The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, which is another piece of Lupin III media. Yeah. Basically Durant is a knockoff Jigen Daisuke. Because I felt bad whumping him in my fanfics.
Tumblr media
I think that's all. Sorry for how convoluted it was, my brain is mush.

You have the replies on your question post disabled, so am answering here — yes, the series probably would have been better to keep Artemis’ morals more loose — more moments like his amnesiac self in ‘The Opal Deception’ trying to sell out Holly would have been more welcome — you said you stopped there, so to summarise, we followed that Artemis essentially going to ‘Hell’, defeating a demon army, getting partially merged with Holly (they end up one of each other’s eyes) and stealing some of her magic, returning from Hell to find years to have passed and Artemis to have brothers now, followed up with a time travel story with the younger more villainous Artemis going up against the older one, also bringing back Opal again (every second book has Opal in it), who then escaped to the present, the story also exploring Hartemis a bit, Artemis telling his mother the truth about everything by the end — the next book also focused on the possibility of Hartemis, while Artemis dealt with his psyche being split by his guilt (and magic), giving us ‘Orion Fowl’ who tells Foaly about Holly’s “moment of passion with Artemis Fowl” to her embarrassment, before both have to go up against Root’s brother from that one short story, who as it turns out really just wanted to get back to his (elderly, human) wife, then in the last book, Opal returned, had her younger self killed, which caused everything her younger self otherwise would have created (including most modern technology) to explode on a nuclear level, bringing destruction to Haven and the world at large, used the paradox to turn herself into a god, then aimed to activate an ancient doomsday weapon to wipe out all humans, taking control over an army of ghosts surrounding said weapon, who possess everything from ducks to Juliet, to Artemis’ brothers, only for Artemis (healed of his magic-induced DID) to trick Opal into shutting the weapon down with that clone she used in ‘The Opal Deception’, killing all fairies within the range of the portal, only because Artemis had Holly’s eye, that counted him, and so he died too, after kissing Holly’s forehead. About half a year later, Foaly clones Artemis from that kiss, and his ghost possesses his clone, he does not initially remember who he is, before Holly begins to tell him the story of his life (the text of the first book, implying her to have been our omniscient narrator all along, telling Artemis his story), and that was where the series ended (not counting the sequel series about Artemis’ brothers). I wouldn’t say that any one book was necessarily better, but the journey was on an interesting-enough road to recommend taking.
Jesus Christ. (Okay, weird about the reply thing but I fixed that. I may have turned them off due to some weirdo being weird, we'll see how it goes. Hey potential future weirdos: cut out that out now.) With no personal animus against you, thank you for plot summary—that sounds absolutely dreadful, a book series completely and utterly losing the plot of what the hell it was even about. Why does Artemis need to go to Hell? I don't mean diagetically I mean... I mean the first book is very self-contained romp about a boy detective who uses his powers for selfish ends, fighting high-tech fairies for some gold using items that were uncommon in 2001 but which you can buy at Wal-Mart now. He is sarcastic, and kind of a dick, and everyone who read it had a crush on the elf, and it was great. Well, there was a shitting dwarf who sucked, but otherwise it was great. What I just read reads like the nadir of 1990s comics overreach, the period where comics—in a very short-term bid to make themselves all resemble the deconstructions of Alan Moore and the cryptofacist melodrama of Frank Miller—just did stupid shit for so long that it killed the Big Two industry forever as mainstream concern. That plot is so tiring to think about, because its substituting interesting character growth for ridiculous maximalist nonsense: including clones. We seemingly have multiple Artemis Ben Reillys running around-oh god. I have put my head between my legs in the hopes the room will stop spinning. "every second book has Opal in it" is the worst sentence you could have said. opal is so dreadful, so awful, so joyless a slog of a character. God. God. Oh young me, between this and Eragon you were so right to bail.

tommy's character gets far too much shit.
hi tumblr. i'm gonna need a few bitches to spread this post everywhere, essentially because i want someone, or just tommy really, to see it. so if you really want, you can screenshot it and post it on twitter, reddit, link it everywhere - go absolutely buck wild. i know he reads the VODS comments a lot, but they're chock full of people just insulting him, his character, his writing and everything about his story in the dream smp simply because they don't understand it and because they refuse to acknowledge his character's perspective (mainly because they only care about the pig). reading that many critical comments on something you've created can only make you feel worse about it eventually, and in light of all the awful techno apologist takes on his character, i wanted to basically just word vomit about how wonderfully crafted c!tommy is, as well as compile some other tumblr posts about his character.
there is a massive fuckin community of people who enjoy the character of tommy, because the character is incredible. i myself have made post after post after post commenting on and analysing tommy's character because i find that there's so much to pick apart. but that enthusiasm for his character only seems to be found on tumblr. reddit and twitter seem to hate his character, the VODS seem to be filled with comments from people who only care about techno's perspective (and treat techno as a reliable narrator, which, is the furthest thing from the truth - that guy lies through his teeth all the time), and the smp wiki is a hellscape of godawful takes and mistruths, not even on just tommy's character.
c!tommy is brilliantly acted and brilliantly written, and almost everything he does is either justifiable or has been rectified or admitted as a mistake. you can clearly make connections as to where he got his conclusions from. you feel what his character experiences, as a member of the audience, vividly.
if you look in the more objective sense, c!tommy, and this is especially in the context of him being the youngest character, is a scapegoat. people claim he's awful and destructive when in reality he's a lot less destructive than most characters on the server. a moment that comes to mind is where he diverts schlatt and quackity's attention from pogtopia by breaking part of the flag in manberg, and then replacing it so as to buy tubbo some time - he literally monologues after it about how he doesn't want to destroy but instead rebuild, and how he feels as if nobody else seems to understand that.
his arc in season two was incredible. it was very character driven, and it gave a spotlight to his motivations. at the start we see him in new l'manberg, and he's enjoying his time there, he's skeptical of his friend's presidency, but his main goal is to get back the discs so that he can stop dream and eliminate that threat. he made one screw up that didn't even matter to george, and he paid for it tenfold, even after dream had spent a while with puffy griefing the server and framing it on tommy - what tommy and ranboo did was convinient. then, in exile, we see c!tommy straight up get abused. he's gaslit and conditioned into being c!dream's friend, and in his brain he teaches himself that those acts of abuse are moments of bonding, and it eventually brings him to the point of wanting to end his own life - he's been torn away from his friends and his support system, and nobody will visit him consistently anymore because they only showed him pity, and all he had left was dream, who had hurt him.
but he doesn't die there, because while he didn't understand the full gravity of it back then like he does now, he recognises that dying isn't an escape, and he can beat dream, even if he doesn't know how. so this is where he goes to techno's place, and here's where the fandom starts to misinterpret the situation wildly.
it's the problem similar to when your parents tell you that they're owed something back because you put a roof over their head, despite that being Not How It Works. techno took tommy in and severely mistreated him emotionally. sure, and i understand this, c!techno is a bad communicator who isn't really that empathetic to anyone who isn't phil or wilbur, but that doesn't excuse the blatant lying to c!tommy's face, the guilt tripping, the friendship buying and the degrading. the day before the festival, tommy finally does something violent in his interrogation of fundy, and only then does techno tell him,,,,
that tommy's not equal to him, that techno doesn't respect him all that much, and that they're not friends.
from techno's perspective, and at the time, this was viewed as a positive development in their relationship. oh, he's starting to warm up to tommy! this friendship could really blossom!
no. from a more objective standpoint, what techno has just said to tommy is : 'i respect you only a little bit more now, because while you're starting to act more like me, you're still annoying and a burden.'
and i haven't even touched on the whole 'erasing the words 'Destroy L'manberg' from techno's to-do list' thing, because that instantly refutes the point of 'techno was upfront with his intentions the whole time' - because he wasn't! he may have said it the first time, but you also know what else he did? he repeatedly told tommy that they'd 'air the details out later' whenever the discs were brought up, and from a tommy viewer's perspective at the time, it was framed as if techno was no longer going to do that.
and i also haven't dared touch the 'i would have fought them all for you', because that's major guilt tripping if ever i've seen it.
so, the day of the festival comes, and here's where c!techno and his apologists completely misread c!tommy's thought process, and why he makes the decision he does.
tommy instantly regrets valuing the discs over tubbo, and it's framed as the culmination of tommy having become all the people he said he would never want to be like. and what does he immediately do? he tells tubbo to give up the disc, and he sides with tubbo. he puts his value in his friends, and, by proxy, l'manberg. and when he betrays techno, he tells him 'i'm sorry'.
from a more objective standpoint, tommy's time with techno is him valuing the discs over almost anything else. so, in leaving techno to be with tubbo again, he is valuing people above the discs. so when, on doomsday, techno says his 'discs aren't people' line, what he doesn't realise is that he himself fueled tommy's valuing of discs above people when attempting to fuel tommy's vengeance against tubbo and l'manberg. techno doesn't realise that he was an unhealthy presence for tommy, and an even worse influence.
what techno also doesn't seem to understand is that tommy never hated tubbo or l'manberg - tommy recognises, now at least, that his exile wasn't a product of tubbo, but a product of dream's manipulation, likely in part because at the time, especially with dream lying about tommy blowing up the community house, tommy was the only one who could see it because he had experienced it firsthand. so when techno sides with dream, it's like kicking tommy in the teeth.
and i want to mention that betraying someone doesn't necessarily make the person who was betrayed good, or in the right, or even justified, because tommy was entirely justified to leave techno. you know who else was betrayed? schlatt. but i don't see many schlatt apologists around angry at quackity for joining the rebellion.
tommy stole the axe of peace? good. it was a moment of tommy defining his self-worth, instead of having it defined by others. gone is the age of c!techno belittling him and deciding how much c!tommy should be respected. NEXT!
here's a moment i wanted to talk about that will forever be funny to me.
'i am a person.'
techno's very famous line from doomsday. techno says to tommy that discs aren't people, and that tommy should value people, despite not understanding that by leaving techno, he did just that. and what does tommy say in return, which has been omitted from every c!tommy-critical analysis, and every animatic?
'yes you are, but so are we.'
an acknowledgement of techno's hurt, to which tommy has already apologised for. a statement that says 'your hurt does not excuse, nor justify, the hurt you have inflicted onto us.' an acknowledgement that tommy has already learnt the lesson techno seems to be trying to 'teach' him. but you can't teach him anything by destroying.
c!tommy has had almost everything he has ever owned or built either taken from him or destroyed. ranboo even points out that the only two things of tommy's left standing are his house and his hotel, and if i'm honest, his house is dissheveled. it's a labyrinth of terror due only to how many times it's been torn apart. l'manberg being blown up didn't teach anyone anything about anarchy, or about valuing people over possessions. logstedshire being blown up didn't teach tommy to be obedient.
i could honestly ramble for ages about how nuanced tommy's character is and how much depth and complexity there is to his character's process and his relationship with others, but more than that, c!tommy is forgiving. he invites almost everyone who hates him to the grand opening of his hotel - if that isn't an indicator that he just wants friends, and not to be treated like the embodiment of evil, then i don't know what is. he holds grudges, but he doesn't really actively hate anyone, other than c!dream. but, we'll let him. c!dream deserves nothing but to be pummeled into the floor.
tommy doesn't spoonfeed his character nuance, and he doesn't really spell it out for his audience. he'll mention things like trauma and triggers in passing, but a lot of analysis on his motivations has to be picked up from what is said in passing or from what can be seen in between the lines.
i'd be here for hours if i were to talk about everything i love about c!tommy, because honestly he's one of my favourite characters, and there are so many angles you can look at his character from in terms of his age, his relationships with others, his motivations, his personality, his character arcs etc etc. so instead of doing that, i'm going to compile some much more specific analysis posts below to skim through because they highlight so many good aspects of his character.
^^ A thread about the 'yes you are, but so are we' line.
^^ About how shit the VODS comments are.
^^ A comment on how c!Tommy is actually pretty peaceful, and is actually less destructive than most characters on the server.
^^ Possibly the best c!Tommy analysis thread I've ever seen in relation to his trauma, which gives multiple perspectives.
^^ About how c!Tommy is treated as a scapegoat, and how, from an objective standpoint, he is no more violent than any other character, it's just that the little violence that is committed is blown far out of proportion.
^^ Tumblr user flypaw being a bad bitch, as per usual.
^^ c!Tommy being incredibly intelligent, and talking about wanting to rebuild and not destroy. A very underrated monologue of his.
^^ Something short about c!Tommy and c!Wilbur's relationship in Pogtopia.
^^ Less about c!Tommy, more a meta on L'Manberg. Really interesting to think about.
^^ A take on Doomsday.
I'll add some more posts in a reblog in the notes, but if anyone's post(s) is on this and they want me to take it off, let me know and I'll do that for you! Feel free to add your own banger c!Tommy takes or ones that you've found.

Writing Year in Review
So I meant to do this yesterday. Ah well. In 2021 I went back to writing after a 9-year hiatus. I couldn't be more happy I did because I'd really forgotten how much I used to enjoy it. It's such a wonderful escape from the daily grind. The start of the new year - Happy New Year's, by the way :-D - is therefore the perfect opportunity to take a look back.
Number of stories posted: 1 multi-chapter WIP, 4 one shots, 5 drabbles Words written: approx. 12,000 (published) Pairings written: Shawn/Hunter (WWE) In the works: 1 approx. 12-chapter story (10 written already), 1 probably 3-chapter story (2 written already), 2 more chapters already written for the current WIP
Not so bad after getting rid of the writing rust after all this time, I'd say. There are vague plans to maybe pick up some of my old abandoned WIPs again from many moons ago, maybe sit down and work on another multi-chapter story idea I've been toying with for, like, ever... and flesh out some of the random notes and thoughts I've put down in my notebook over these past few months. We'll see what will really come into fruition this year, right?
In the meantime, if you want to play catch up, I thought I'd link all the stories I worked on in 2021. Enjoy! :) Fanfics written in 2021

Jeong Yunho.
A kind child from a loving family of four guardians. The son of Lloyd, Robin, Valeria, and Mei, Yunho spent his childhood learning how to make tea, gardens, and medicinal salves from plants, all while learning about the human body and the illnesses that plague it.
His smiling face is a treat for the people in town when he and his parents travel to gather supplies. His kind demeanor and the calm, earthy mixture of floral and fruit scents that cling to him often lead to him being inviting enough to all animals. He can befriend any animal effortlessly, something his mother Valeria often teases lightly about.
Surgeon Jeong Yunho
Having sought out the man that helped save his loved one, Yunho has dedicated himself to both Captain Hongjoong and the entire Utopia crew. He provides emotional and medical support to everyone in their time of need and his office is often an escape from the hardships that come with being out at sea, all with his serpentine friend Atlas usually wrapped around his neck.
Yunho may be one of the few men who are fully in touch with their…’other’ selves, and as such, he’s been looking into the true nature of their powers and where they come from. Perhaps the gentlemanly voice in his head can provide some answers…
-Mythology-
Geb, also known as Seb or Keb, is the Egyptian God of the Earth. He is the son of Shu and Tefnut, and his wife is sister Nut, the Goddess of the Sky. Geb and Nut bore four children; Osiris, Isis, Set (Or Seth), and Nephthys. (Though some myths will credit Geb with being the father to the god Horus, as well)
Though his name apparently translates to “weak one”, Geb is highly respected and often seen as one of Egypt’s mightiest gods. A protector and a guide, Geb has had many instances in his lore where he is often the support to an allied god through their own journey.
Despite being the God of the Earth, Geb also aided the deceased to the afterlife, and would provide them with food along to ease their long journey into the afterlife. Geb’s name is a powerful one, said to be spoken to heal the sick if their affliction was caused by a natural cause such as a cold or a poisonous sting from a scorpion.
Geb’s laugh is also powerful, said that the sound of his laugh alone can cause earthquakes. The god can have his moments (as most others do), where he will seemingly cause strife for his followers, just because it is within his power to do so. From droughts without warning, to being the reason there is a huge, near uninhabitable desert isolating Egypt from the ancient world, Geb was no stranger to flexing his power and causing hardships.
Despite this, he had his kinder moments, such as the fertile lands surrounding the Nile River. Just as he would cause a drought without warning, Geb would also bless followers with bountiful harvests, with a surplus to keep their livestock alive and healthy for day to day life.
In ancient depictions of the two, Geb and his wife, Nut are depicted with him lying below her as she stands above him in the shape of an arc, covering him, but never touching him. Geb is reclining, often with his knee pulled upwards, as a show to represent the intimacy between the earth and sky. His limbs are often metaphors for the valleys, mountains, or hills.
The most common depiction of Geb himself is that of a dark skinned man with a crown. Sometimes his skin is green. This is to represent the fertile soils of The Nile and growth of crops in the area. He is also often depicted with a goose on his head, as it is his sacred animal. He was also said to be able to transform into other birds, leading to the name “The Great Cackler” (which, given his earthquake laughs, watch out with that one-).
He is also associated with snakes, and less common depictions will have him as part man, part snake. In the Book of the Dead, Geb was credited with giving birth to the serpent Nehebkau.
-Power Applications/ Demon Transformation-
When Yunho unleashes his full power, his dark brunette hair will become mostly blonde. His eyes will go from their honey brown color, to an icy, nearly whitish blue color. A discolored triangle appears over his right eye and his smile is elongated, with earthy, root-like veins appearing around his lips and the edges of the triangular mark. He can see better out of his right eye, as his ‘Demon Self’ can see fully from it and assist during combat.
With the uniqueness of still being able to communicate with his ‘other’ self, Yunho is attuned to the Earth and uses his full body for combat. He mixes Hapkido learned from mother Mei and Capoirea learned from his father Robin with his plant powers to attack with every part of himself, using his powers for extra attacks, or to keep himself steady as he goes on the offensive.
Alongside his strong offensive capabilities, Yunho uses his powers for defense, raising thick trees and slabs of earth to block attacks or keep enemies at bay. He also can wrap vines around enemies to crush them, much like a constrictor would do to prey.
When not in combat, Yunho’s plants have a number of other applications, with the most notable being the ability to grow medicinal and essential plants on the ship for his salves and other medical needs. He can also grow a number of flora for his teas or for Yeosang’s food.
Plants also have a natural bioluminescence, and the kind doctor often uses his powers to  brighten the normally undetectable light to a degree where they can be used to illuminate his room without the need for lanterns. His plants also have a strong scent, and are used for aromatherapy, thus turning his quarters into a calm room for the crew to freely enter to destress at any time.
Ideally, Yunho fares the best with his powers in an area that is heavily wooded or has little to no man-made structures to keep the destruction levels low. If the area is too dry, on fire, or cold, he has difficulty summoning plants, as they will often be brittle or too weak for attacks, but he can use his more defensive stone-type fighting, or hand to hand to compensate for the potential loss.
-Character Song Breakdown-
All of the main boys have a song assigned to them in the AtT playlist to go alongside their origin chapters. Yunho’s character song is Voices In My Head by San Holo. I will go over some spoiler things, but if you made it this far, you may know this already.
Unlike some of the other boys’ breakdowns, Yunho’s is rather simple. The song was picked as a hint to the fact that Yunho is the first of the boys to interact with his ‘demon’ self in a manner that wasn’t self-destructive.
Impressed by his nature and lack of strong negativity within him, his demon self grants him full control of their powers and as a result of their mutual understanding, he’s actually stuck around instead of being ‘overcome’ by Yunho taking control. As a result, he is one of the only boys that has the ability to still hear the previous embodiment of his powers. Ever since he realized his transformation and relationship with his ‘demon’ self were different from the others, he’s been trying to dissect why exactly he was different from the others and provide aid to the other boys.
He can hear the voice in his head. Get it?
-I've got voices in my head
What to say when all is said?
I'm still try to understand
Sometimes words don't just make sense
-You've got voices in your head
What to say when all is said?
When you try to understand
But my words just don't make sense
-I say, "Don't make my heart ache
Don't make my heart ache now"
I say, "Don't make my heart ache
We'll find a way somehow"
-Character Blurb-
“Breathe.”
“I am, Yunho-”
“No. You’re not. Look at me.”
Yeosang held his head and shook as Yunho lifted his chin, frowning at the tears running down the smaller pirate’s face. He was headed to the galley when he found him crying, curled up on the floor, in the middle of a panic attack. He wiped his cheeks and picked him up, barely flinching as Yeosang clung to his form, biting his lip hard.
The walk to his room was quiet as Yeosang cried. Yunho set him down in his lap, thumbing away more of his tears before he looked him in the eyes.
“Tell me what happened.”
“I had a dream about her and...and…”
“Say no more. Come here.” He pulled Yeosang against his chest and hummed a low tune, rocking Yeosang as he shook. As he hummed, he raised a few plants to his bedside, the vines embracing the wood of his ceiling, drooping down to bathe the two in a gentle glow as the now-neon blooms let out a collection of scents that made Yeosang’s shoulders relax.
The gentle scent soothed him and after another half an hour he smiled and wiped his eyes, kissing the underside of Yunho’s jaw.
“Thanks, puppy.”
Yunho grinned and pulled him back against his chest, moving to lay down with Yeosang still by his side.
“No worries. I’ll protect you, okay? Rest easy, she can’t hurt you.”
Yunho wrapped his long limbs around the smaller pirate, nuzzling his soft hair as he exhaled gently, the earthy scent of the room relaxing both of them.
