Well, I don't think it'd be too difficult?

Frustration ahead;

Hagoromo, the full package, wanted to reform the philosophy of Shinobi as the power was divided and people didn't understand each other etc-. He had the Rinnegan. The whole idea behind the way he wanted to reform things was that the divided yin/yang could come together (also the Theme of understanding each other, his sons divided etc etc) and thus, two of the opposite together can build everything (like Hagoromo) as Yin-release can create something out of nothing (like genjutsu or manipulating shadow like Shikamaru) and Yang-release can bring it to life (Choji becoming bigger for example). It's mental and physical energy. Even if it is said that either can be inherited, it's not hereditary by default.. it's a foundation for all sorts of chakra. Being an Uchiha doesn't 'make you automatically yin' and same for Senju with Yang. Some Jutsu also use yin and yang, but not at the same time. However, Naruto made a whole eye for Kakashi and this was yin-yang release as well as Hagoromo creating the tb's. Kurama's halves were divided by yin/yang as well. Naruto having Yang, his father yin, together it is 'complete' and thus more powerful. These are all the same concepts. Why would Naruto need the hermit's power if he could've gotten more powerful in a different way?

Okay, so? That all makes sense, why then add the whole Indra/Ashura thing?! 😩 It's so unnecessary idc. It says in the data that Hagaromo's chakra could be obtained by combining Indra and Ashura's, but if the concept of yin/yang already exists in the world... THEN WHY GIVE IT A NAME AND BODY as an external source for the story?! It's the same thing as explaining where 'Chakra' came from. We don't need that. Find a way to add 'yang' in a way to the Sharingan (yin) and we could've had Madara as our main 'villain' because he found a way to do it by eating Hashirama... 🤷🏻‍♀️ And if that's too easy because literally anyone could've done it.. THEN. GOOD. Away with the whole fate/destiny thing through stalker-Chakra as well. It only makes Madara's motivation to perform the IT that much more powerful and it doesn't erase some of the impact his past had on him either. In fact he now only relies on his own experiences. We don't need Zetsu to come and manipulate anyone or the aliens 'will' because why, in a world like 'Naruto' does anyone need to be manipulated when the system very much allows characters to act out and fight back themselves, hm? Had Zetsu not been seeking 'reincarnations' (Chakra) then their motivations couldn't have been anything other than their own. And I know you could argue about it and say this already is case. Good, then why introduce it in the first place? Even Orochimaru found a way to 'implant' Hashirama's powers into a child (Yamato) so it's not like anything is impossible. Why 'derive Madara from his powers' just so you can introduce aliens later -.-? (For 'boruto', yeah I know.) It was so.... strange to just kill him off lamely and make him look like he was simply used when that doesn't suit him or his background story imo AT ALL and then switch him randomly for rabbit alien lady who frankly... didn't even do anything but just float around all evil-y. Like who even are you, do we care? No. And if Naruto and Sasuke together (THE ENTIRE POINT) are the answer of the whole 'working together'-thing and 'understanding one another', they could've done all of this without the cheap power-up!!! And have the entire 'power-up' be simply the fact THEY WORK TOGETHER and their entire journeys up until this point where Naruto fought tooth and nail to understand Sasuke by himself. Maybe even combine yin-yang release and morph it into something new if that by default means you can do anything. WHY RELY ON THE POWER-UP!? D'ykwim???

AND ALSO, if it was absolutely necessary to add an element of resistance to their bond in order to make them fighting back against fate/destiny that wanted to pull them apart be more impactful (as it is!)... Then don't ruin it by vaguely implying otherwise later with this bs!!! Even if the story doesn't say that exactly, enough casual readers/watchers mistook what it meant and I don't blame them for it at all. And did their trauma and personal goals not do that enough already BECAUSE they were so different??! It's entirely personal already! Their bond has nothing to do with any of it!!! They can combine their powers because they are compatible with their natures too, Naruto even said it himself. They naturally created a new, combined Jutsu during the war and had a great time doing so. And if that's the case then why make the yin/yang thing so difficult when it was THIS easy for them regarding elements??? When they can look at each other and go to a private place just for themselves. They are ~the main act~. They worked together, which is development for one of the MAIN Themes, so then WHY?! WHY would you want to introduce the aliens if you're then forced to throw them this power-up because they wouldn't have been able to defeat and seal the lady otherwise?! HELLO!? Wasn't the entire point that they could've done ANYTHING together? WHY RUIN IT 😠?? For no reason???? ALSSOOOOO it would've been interesting IMO if then LITERALLY, the effect of them NOT working together when they were fighting each other at the end was evident to them both as well (for the sake of the Theme) since that is then suddenly a huge contrast to the previous fight and it would've clarified the ending a bit more to the casual reader/watcher. AND!!! If Madara was so 'power-hungry' and 'working together' was so important, then WHYYYYYYYY~~~~~ not have Naruto and Sasuke do JUST THAT instead of making them into a version of Madara (in regard to yin-yang, obtaining Hagoromo powers) when the narrative said it was a bad thing because having it all for yourself was used for evil?!?! When 'true understanding' comes from working together EVEN IF you're opposites!!!! WHEN HASHIRAMA AND MADARA COULDN'T!? AaAAAAAHHHHHH The hell has any of it got to do anything with Otosuzuki or however you spell it.

You can literally just scrap all of it, have Madara gain his power without any mention of the ancient chakra and have him be the main 'villain' of the story to beat because the war arc was too long anyway. And then, if Kishimoto wanted to add some moral revival he could've even passed the Rinnegan onto Sasuke next or something, because they were all sharing eyes at some point anyway. OR even have Sasuke's eye be even more special because he had the forehead eye-thing. OR OR OR!! What about the Ten-tails Rinne'Sharingan eye? 👀 Now it's just a mysterious man giving two guys the vegetable soup his mommy made because he can't eat it himself and she's mad about it. Man, I dunno, I'm just making something up, but so many other things were possible you know? I know there are many holes in what I said, but we're talking about removing an entire element, I can't cover it all. Excuse the rant.

Here's my take on coffee shop AU + Piarles! - ficlet, 600 words -

(No one asked for it, it was self-indulgence 🤷🏻‍♀️😁)

When Charles pushes the door of the coffee shop open, he expects to be greeted by the chime of a tiny handcrafted bell, and engulfed by the smell of warm pastries and freshly ground coffee. He’s never come in before, but whenever he passes by, the frontage gives him a homely vibe, similar to the tea house his grandma owned and ran when he was a child.

Disappointingly, complete silence ushers him in, and the place reeks of bleach. Half the chairs are already turned over on the tables, the lights are dimmed, the background music is off and the food display has been cleared from all items. The room is empty apart from one staff member behind the counter. He’s slouched near the coffee machine, his back turned to Charles, elbows on the worktop, phone in hands.

The plonk of the door closing doesn’t stir any reaction, so Charles clears his throat as he pads forward. ‘Good evening.’

‘Just so you know, I’m locking up in ten minutes,’ the guy deadpans, eyes fixed on his screen.

‘That’s okay, I’m here because I saw the sign on the window. Are you still looking for a barista?’

‘Well, the sign is still there, isn’t it?’

‘Right…’ Charles tenses up, flustered. Nothing pushes his buttons faster than wanton sarcasm and slacking off. The combination of both – added to the fact that the guy still hasn’t granted him a single look – is bound to set a speed record. ‘Is there someone I can talk to about the position? Or is it best that I leave a—’

‘Got any experience?’

‘Spending too much time on my phone, yes. Being a rude dick, not really, but I’m a quick learner.’

Charles bites his tongue as soon as the damage is done – story of his life, really. If that guy is part of the management team, chances are Charles just blew it. Which wouldn’t be the end of the world, most coffee shops are desperate for staff at the moment. But he has no desire to work in another soulless branch of a franchise, and this place is the only independent business he can walk to from his new flat. 

The guy drops his phone, spins around slowly to stand right underneath one of the ceiling lights, and costs Charles a breath and a couple of heartbeats.

His plump lips part and curve into a provocative smile, his eyes are two glinting kaleidoscopes of every shade of blue known to man, and the skin around his stubble probably tastes like the croissants missing from the display. The badge on his chest says ‘Pierre’, but Charles barely registers the information because of the muscles hugged by his black t-shirt around a plunging v-neck. 

He’s devastatingly handsome, he absolutely knows it and Charles hates everything that occurs in the following seconds. He hates how this stranger’s gaze is mentally peeling off his clothes and setting his gut ablaze. He hates that he relishes the sensation. And he hates how the white gold of his engagement ring starts burning his finger, instantly chastising him for half-formed thoughts he’s not meant to have anymore.

‘Alright, smartass.’ Pierre rests his forearms on the counter between them, trying to scroll through Charles’ soul the way he did on his phone. ‘The boss is gonna want to check if those hands are as dexterous as that tongue. When can you come for a trial shift?’

Charles has never been this torn between whacking someone’s face and dragging them into the closest storage room to run his mouth all over their body. Both options trigger an immediate urge to storm out of the shop and yet, he replies, ‘Anytime, I’m flexible,’ which widens Pierre’s wolfish smile.

Here’s my question regarding Lone Star’s lack of success: is it really because of Tarlos? I’m not saying it isn’t part of it but I also think there are many variables as to why the show isn’t as popular. 1. Typically spin-offs don’t do as well

2. Rob Lowe isn’t enough to keep people week over week or season over season

3. The tone isn’t the same as OG leading many not to tune in

4. COVID hurt them a lot more than OG as they weren’t able to build the fan base

Maybe I’m misunderstanding you (apologize if that is the case) but I don’t think you can place as much blame on Lone Star’s lack of success on Tarlos as I think you do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The problem with this entire ask is that you're basing the "lack of success" for LS on your perception of things instead of adding facts to the equation.

First, spinoffs not doing as well as the original may have been a valid argument at one time, but in this era of TV? Spinoffs are the reason franchises won't die. Law & Order. NCIS. One Chicago. The FBIs. If a spinoff was doomed to fail, we'd have A LOT more original programming every season. And if we're being honest? Spinoffs "don't do as well" because the creators changed something from the original and the fan base isn't open to those changes. It's much deeper than "it's just not as good".

Secondly, and this is gonna come as a shock to many of you, but Rob Lowe the actor? Kind of a big deal in Hollywood. He did not need LS to be put back on the map/get back into the spotlight. You know how people accept Peter Krause's status (even when we didn't necessarily know of him) because of his work on Six Feet Under? Yeah, well. Ever heard of a show called The West Wing? Guess who got critical acclaim for his part? I promise you that anyone continuing to watch LS in year five is doing so because of Rob. Because they recognize him. They respect his work. We cannot say people are tuning in for Marjan or Paul or Mateo or even Tommy when Owen IS the show. And listen, we all love Angela, but let's not act like OG is still head and shoulders above all else when there are other series with the same number of seasons (or even more) that pull in more viewers more consistently. People are sick of OG's shit, too.

Lastly, and most importantly, I never said Tarlos is THE reason viewership is down with the spinoff. I said (more than once) that OG has shown us Tim didn't have faith in the fan base to support a gay relationship between two men that wasn't happening in the background. Michael could have been a first responder. His love life would have gotten more attention. Buck could have been confirmed bi while dating women. Same with Eddie. The fact that neither one of those things happened in SIX YEARS, not even early on when the characters were still being fleshed out, tells you it wasn't worth the risk of losing the audience to "the gay agenda". (Again. Remember who the shows are actually for. Angela and Peter and Rob aren't supposed to be encouraging teenagers and those in their early or mid twenties to tune in. It's gonna be viewers more in their age range.)

So when we look at LS and see an openly gay man playing a gay man alongside an actor who turns out to be bi IRL, when we see that relationship experience intimacy the same way the straight characters do, we're really gonna try and pretend it didn't and still doesn't influence people's decision to disengage?

The OG audience - the people not on social media! - wanted OG, Pt. II. That's not what they got.

I just hope that tomorrow apart from the " do more" we' ll have some eddie scenes, because the way they're underusing him in s6 it's criminal, ofc since kr hates him and likes to keep him far away from buck the moment he'll start to date again we'll see him 20 min for episodes because no homo, like there wasn't really any other sl for him but dating again right?

I know that whatever we get from all the cast tomorrow is gonna be soooo good, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm trying to keep my expectations for how much Eddie we're getting low, just so I'm not overly disappointed. I wouldn't necessarily say KR hates him (that argument could be made of Oliver too since Buck's personal storylines outside the firefam have been trash since she took over), which we know isn't true, she's just....bad a coming up with storylines in general across the board 🤷🏻‍♀️ Honestly I think that's what him dating again is about too.

A) TPTB haven't fully pulled the Buddie trigger (I expect that Tim wants to be around to get the credit for that and also she's....not the one anyone would pick to head that train), and these guys can only have so many scenes screaming each other's names while single before they gotta wedge some woman in there to "prove" there's nothing to see. 🙄

B) KR is bad at coming up with ideas and while I don't think she hates Ryan/Eddie, I DO think that she just doesn't find the character interesting so she doesn't know what to do with him. It's the same with Chim who is getting the first storyline centered on him since season THREE when Albert showed up. Everything else has been about Madney and he was written off the show for most of that, and their breakup AND resolution/working things out happened off screen. JLH has negotiated for limited time on set apparently but they continued to squander the majority of the time she DID have on random stuff instead of making sure she was included in firefam stuff like being the one at dispatch on big calls which she could film separately from the team to fit her schedule. Bobby has this WHOLE arc with Wendall, and yet KR didn't think that name needed to come up a single time before 6x09 and Bobby spent the previous 8 episodes being a background character with nothing going on. Ravi is supposed to be back with a big episode and his name hasn't been mentioned a single time in 10 episodes. Hen was apparently going to officially leave the 118 to continue med school and it wasn't ever mentioned until suddenly there was a going away party. There was no Chim being nostalgic on calls that "this could be the last time you have to hold the vomit bag in the back of the ambulance" or anything. Honestly, I didn't even KNOW she was resigning, until that party because everything was about her passing the test to move on, it never came up that moving on would necessitate her leaving which SHOULD have been a huge plot point. Chim was going to lose his partner and we didn't hear anything about it until we were watching her going away party! Yet another of the things KR had in her notes that she didn't think needed to make it on screen so the audience knows what's going on. And it's not like there wasn't time for all that ins 6a because nothing much else happened.

Point is, we've got some GOOD writers and directors back, and the cast is really excited about the work they've been doing (though it's good to remember what an actor finds exciting to DO and a fun experience for them ACTING, doesn't necessarily translate perfectly to what the audience prefers to SEE on our end), but at the end of the day the same person is still making the decisions and planning the arcs. And unless someone higher up steps in (as they did with the L mess and what appears to have happened with the sperm donor arc given that the interviews are showing distinctly opposite answers to what they were after 6x09), we're still stuck with someone who has proven since taking over partway through s4, that she fundamentally doesn't understand the characters or what motivates them, or what the audience wants from the show. The tone of the seasons has swung wildly all over the place and been horribly inconsistent, and either nothing is happening or they're trying to pack too much in to an episode.

So for my personal edification and to make my experience as enjoyable for me personally as possible, I'm working on managing my expectations so I'm either right, or pleasantly surprised and delighted by what's delivered. And as I said, at the very least, whatever we DO get, from Ryan or any of the rest of the cast, is gonna be GOLD.

I read the 2008 article one of your Anons quoted from and I don't entirely agree with your take on it. As a parent with an artsy daughter not much younger than Taylor I had a conversation similar to the one reported by Andrea about moving from Pennsylvania to Nashville.

In my case it was a choice between her doing an academic course at university or trying to get into drama school and become an actor which would require a significant amount of funding with no guarantees of success.

I tried to put the least amount of pressure on my daughter as possible to justify the investment. It was her dream and her life and she owed me nothing in return. I think that is what Andrea was trying to do.

In the end my daughter failed three times to get into drama school and decided to find other outlets for her creativity. If I had been Taylor's parent I would have done exactly what Scott and Andrea did and tried very hard not to burden her with expectations. The fact it all turned out spectacularly well is hindsight.

Incidentally I read an article about Ed Sheeran in which his Dad said almost exactly the same thing about Ed going off to London at 16 to busk and couch surf. So its not in my opinion creating a myth. Its about not wanting to burden your kids with expectations when they are starting out.

I mean I agree with that but I also think the point is Taylor’s parents put major resources AND SKILLS that they had acquired in their own industries and due to their own backgrounds in order to build her career. No, they didn’t force her to do it. But she also didn’t achieve it by herself and she didn’t have to! They were able to move to Nashvile, they were able to get her demos made, they were able to walk away from deals that weren’t creatively fulfilling for her (ie having her sing other people’s music) because they didn’t need the money, they had negotiation skills, they had marketing skills and know how, and they had an understanding of the law and shit.

They messed up at various points - it wasn’t a foolproof plan - but we can’t pretend that the Swifts haven’t had a HUGE hand in building the brand. Andrea literally does this fulltime. It’s her job. It’s also in line with her academic and professional background.

It’s not as simple as saying “we didn’t put any pressure on her” - they didn’t in ways but they also provided the kind of support most people wouldn’t have been able to (without it becoming a Judd and Iris situation).

Ed just had room to fail which doesn’t diminish from the work he did but it’s obviously not an experience every kid in the world has 🤷🏻‍♀️

It was fascinating and exhausting of an experience 😭

Basically my friend saw my hickeys during my volleyball tournament so I invented a whole story on how I started seeing a guy that she didn't know and tried to keep the talk about that non existant guy short. What had me sweat buckets was that my scarf smelled like my fwb and she told me the perfume on my scarf was familiar. I tried to laugh it off like oh really??

But somehow everytime I left him my clothes and scarf and everything smelled like him and honestly he was the first and last guy so far that smelled just amazing and not in that heavy axe like smell.

I also soon found out I knew one of his relatives 🤡 she used to be in the same school band as me. One day we had gone to town together to chill and fool around when we went to a shop and all of a sudden I hear a female voice call out to my fwb. When I turned around I froze and I was like oh (insert her name) and I was just like please tell me this isn't happening. Basically that's how I found out these two were related (I would also see her on school grounds (I was still in high school at that time finishing my third grade) and I was terrifiedddd cause my then friend was with me and I was like what if she says or asks something?? Thankfully nothing happened)

That day we ended up taking the bus and goodness that moment has been engraved in my memory and I still get all flushed and embarrassed thinking about it. Basically I had some candy with me and asked him if he wanted some and he said yeah but soon after he would tell me not to move a bit and he started making out with me, passing to me that candy.... in front of the people that were in the same bus as us. He teased me afterwards cause I was so flustered.

There would be instances where he would come over to my place too. One of them was so hilarious cause I would often give him massages at his place and we would also cuddle together or sometimes I would take his dagger cause he liked when you would trace the blade on his back, so we would also make challenges with him trying to guess what I was tracing.

That was bold of me to accept to do it then cause his father was downstairs. So I had an introduction to him in the end like hey this is my friend and all. I also had forgotten to take the flower hairpin he handed me as a gift after we had finished our did 😭

So yeah our fun was cut short though cause on my birthday my friend asked for my phone to call my fwb to ride her home cause it was late and she had no phone battery (we were out to celebrate my bday) and I was like sure! Drowning in panic I erased all of our convo. Especially since she asked me that as I was about to go to the bathroom. In the end she found suspicious how we had no convo history on WhatsApp and I confessed to her and that's how our friendship ended.

For a while there would also be no communal with my fwb and when I reached out to him and we met I found out how there was an argument with her and asked him never to talk to me again. Spoiler alert we did talk for a while, hooked up again but then we left our own marry ways. We reconciled again with my fwb like a year or two ago and that's when we kinda ended our contact definitively cause he had found the right person and he actually finally became a dad 💕 he was the sweetest dude, very crazy when we had met but he matured a lot ever since. I will forever be grateful to that dude cause even if he didn't know it he actually saved me in a way cause I was going through a very difficult period and even though the issues continued even when we lost contact, the fact he was there at the beginning of it all and he was the one that marked my first everything helped me a lot 💭

So yeah that was it! Honestly fwb never last imo you always have one person seek for more, so it's really a situation where you need to willingly take the risk of potentially getting burned by it. I think I was the one who caught feelings with him, mostly cause of how important of a role he took at that time of my life.

Whyyyy?!!! Why did I wait this long to listen to this book when I had already made a choice to buy it more than a year ago! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Circe is a part literary fantasy and part divine Greek soap opera. This strange combination makes this an extremely quotable, rich in description, and a gripping pageturner. It moves seamlessly between the broader scope of the world and its many gods and monsters, to the more narrow focus of the nymph-turned-witch, Circe, and her daily life before and after she is exiled to the island Aeaea.

Circe becomes a powerful witch, but the strength of her story is in all her relatable flaws and weaknesses. We follow her as a naive lesser nymph, longing to be accepted and loved. We stay with her as she believes the lies of others and, later, becomes hardened against such deceivers. Her compassion constantly battles with her rage. Understandably.

There is some grim satisfaction to be gained as this woman who has been bullied, belittled and trod on her entire life slowly claws out some vengeance for herself.

The pain she endures along the way means that her successes are bittersweet. In the end, Circe might be full of fantasy, backstabbing and murder, but it is first and foremost the story of one woman's life - through pain, love, desire, heartache and motherhood.

Other Greek myths play out in the background - that of the Minotaur, and of Icarus, as well as many others - but it is Circe's personal tale that hits the hardest. I just hope we don't have to wait another seven years for Miller to write another novel like this.

Listening to this in audio was a purely joyful experience.

Squishes Vs. Crushes, Part 2/4 - Where I finally explain the rest of my opinion on what a Crush Actually Is, and perhaps more Importanly, How To Identify One 😆💚 There are a couple of things I should mention about this part - as you've probably noticed, I chose to draw two of my characters (who are gfs!!! 🥰) in some of the panels to help explain my points. I was originally going to draw myself for them (like the rest of these comics), but ... I'm too romance-repulsed when it comes to things I'm personally involved in, and I couldn't bring myself to do it 😭😅 (I have a feeling this is a part of being gray-aromantic for me). And speaking of being gray-aromantic, I want to emphasize that my perception of what defines a "crush" is still influenced by the fact that well, I am AROspec 😂 As mentioned, the way that I experience romantic attraction is so brief (and also, it virtually NEVER happens) that it only lasts a few seconds now - it's a fleeting emotion, a glimpse into a life that isn't mine. It temporarily lets me understand the hype around romance for those few moments. Yet it goes away just as fast, and I'm left puzzled as to why I would ever feel that same emotion when I look at the person in question again! Because of this, I don't put a lot of stock into the feeling - but I'm almost certain allos feel differently about romantic attraction. To my undersanding, allos find this emotion to help them place importance on the person that they feel said attraction to, and it's a part of experiencing a crush. But I'm not 100% sure 🤷🏻‍♀️ - so any alloros (or demiros, if you feel this applies to you), can you please let us know if this is true? And overall, if you think I've missed anything important on identifying a crush, please let us know!!! It would be super helpful to this group of highly confused aros 😭

BOY OH BOY!!!! an overall overarching one is, bc i am now an adult, i can’t stand high school aus, as they are about children and i don’t want to read that. i absolutely loved them when i was in high school, don’t any more.

a trope i hate that shows up a lot in specifically tog fic is the idea of the (gender neutral) “damsel in distress”. it happens all the time to Certain Characters and it drives me up a Goddamn WALL because in tog fandom it also takes on these racialized components where the white characters get babied and damselfied and the characters of color are in charge of helping them and taking care of them and “fixing” or “rescuing” the white characters and it sometimes just gets. Really weird. i am not being super coherent about this because i am very tired but you all know what i mean.

(also for the record, i have read SO MUCH fic and meta and incredible contributions that doesn’t fall into these traps and i think as a fandom we are really getting better about this. however this fandom is still profoundly racist at times and we also need to recognize that.)

i’m gonna pivot here completely for a second and say that i do not like and do not get a common fandom portrayal of Quỳnh post iron maiden where she’s just completely filled with rage, hates everyone especially her family, and is consumed with getting revenge. i do recognize that we do not have a lot of screentime for Quỳnh, which also bums me out, but from what we see of her personality and additionally her qualities that were emphasized onscreen, i just do not see or understand how she could come out of that experience hating Andy and the other members of her family. i think that she’d hate humanity and institutions but to me it does not make sense at all for her to hate her family. they will obviously have a shitton of things to work through and i absolutely believe that Quỳnh would be furious with her family, but i absolutely don’t believe she’d hate them. i do not like that comics storyline and i won’t like it if they follow it in 2 old 2 guard either. (this is a personal preference and not an overarching problem btw just to make that clear)

in that vein i also don’t really like iron maiden aus. there is one by my beloved @anosrepasi called Lingua Franca that i highly, highly recommend, but that is the only one I have ever really read with complete enjoyment because it is amazing writing, very creative, and truly (i think) a category of its own.

the reason that i generally do not like these aus is that overall, iron maiden aus constantly fall into this trap where Andy is absolutely demonized for her reaction to the situation and the aus take on this tone of how the other characters would react so much “better” by “not giving up searching” and UGH that drives me into absolutely batshit pissed off territory. (also i will say that there are great fics that deal with this trope and i am aware of that, this again is personal preference)

i actually don’t have a specific one. what i DO have is any time people use any of the fully fledged incredible characters we have as background music/props for an OTP the author finds better, that is a big no from me. notp is sidelining characters for a ship 😬😬 let’s not do that besties

unfortunately i can’t :/ i’m the first of a few interviews they’re having today. if i reschedule it’ll decrease my chances. my resume was up on indeed and the doctor actually reached out to me personally because he liked my background and experience. that’s why he’s interviewing me first. so if i reschedule it’ll possibly throw my chance out the window.

the only thing obviously wrong with me right now is my voice. whenever shit like this happens to me my voice gets incredibly monotone for a few hours, even days sometimes. thankfully they don’t know what i normally sound like, but i’m sure my robotic voice isn’t going to do me any favors either.

Day 10

May 16, 2018

Today we went to Sachsenhausen concentration camp and I think it was a great experience. In my history classes in high school we learned about the holocaust, Nazi Germany and most importantly we remembered the lives of those who were murdered. It’s one thing reading about it and watching documentaries but actually getting to see it for yourself was a whole different experience. While the concentration camp we went to wasn’t as bad as most of the other death camps like Auschwitz, it was still emotionally overwhelming. We got to see the barracks in which up to four people had to sleep in. That was very shocking to me because personally I always complained about my dorm bed freshman year but the bed they all had to sleep in was even smaller. We also got to hear stories about the different experiments they conducted on the prisoners and it was really sad to hear. I can’t imagine the torture they were forced to go through and the malnutrition, personally I don’t think I could ever go through something like that. I’m very glad I got to experience going to a concentration camp because it has taught me to quit complaining so much all the time about the amount of walking we do and stuff like that. They had it so much worse and the fact that there were survivors is just an absolute miracle.

After we got back from the concentration camp, I went back to the hotel and decided to skip out on souvenir shopping because I was just tired and needed to start packing. Afterwards around 7, me and a few others headed downstairs and went to Kreuzberg for dinner and karaoke. The biggest mistake we made yesterday was going to Que Pasa a Mexican restaurant ( they should be ashamed for calling it “Mexican”) I ordered a tostada with frijoles which is a fried FLAT tortilla with smushed beans and lettuce on top. My food was nothing of what I expected 🙄 nobody’s food made sense and I just wanted to get in the back and start cooking my own self for them. They also need to fix their menu because it does not make sense. I don’t like to complain about my food because my mom always taught me eat what you get or starve🤷🏻‍♀️ I figure the guy felt bad that I barely ate any of my food or any of us so they gave us shots on the house 🤘🏼 after we left the Mexican restaurant we went to karaoke night at this gay bar and it was so much fun! I think last night was the night I most enjoyed myself in. Phillip and I literally sang background to every song they played and sang and trust me when I tell you we were singing our HEARTS out 🎤 We made friends with a lot of people that were there also singing along to most songs. Kimberly and Favor were the only ones to go up there and sing their little hearts out. I loved it! They can sing! We got back a little late last night around 2:30 and I didn’t go to bed until about 3:30 am but it was totally worth it. 😋

Scott and Andrea were comfortable middle class American business people. I have met dozens of them over the years with the boats, the beach house and the nice lifestyle. Scott was a money manager but he was not a big shot investment banker.

Reading that email tells me he pretty much laid his career on the line to help Taylor and Andrea gave hers up completely. Taylor acknowledged that in her NYU speech and Scott’s email does not contradict any of it. Scott, Andrea and by default Austin bet everything on Taylor’s career. I would have done exactly the same.

One thing that pisses me off is the accusation that Taylor had her career bought for her or that she was a nepo baby. There were a thousand times it could have gone tits up and Taylor would have ended up an English Literature tutor who wrote poetry a few thousand people read and was reviewed well in The Guardian.

In the meantime Scott would have screwed his career by dumping himself in Nashville. He would have still had the boat and the country club but by American terms he would be just another retired financial adviser retired to Tampa and we would never have had Folklore.

this is a VERY privileged take lol rooted in your own experience, not the majority of Americans. Sorry. I get that you’ve met a lot of people like that, but there are also a lot more people in serious debt (he wasn’t, he had assets to sell) than people with beach houses to sell at a profit tbh. There are also a lot of people on food stamps and grants and shit. Scott was and is not middle class. He was upper middle class. He didn’t “buy” her career, but without Scott putting up a lot of money - which he may not have had because most people don’t lol that’s why he was being bumped up tax brackets lmfao or which he may have had to open lines of credit for which again he didn’t have to do - there would’ve been no Taylor Swift™️ and that’s fine to acknowledge. It doesn’t make her less talented but it’s also not true that they were a totally regular family. Also Andrea was a SAHM before they decided to build the act, she’d given up her career to stay at home, she RESTARTED a career when they decided to promote Taylor.

I have these friends where her parents bought them a small business as a wedding present. We’re actually talking less money than Scott spent on Taylor’s career, but a significant chunk of change nonetheless. They’re doing very well and working very hard and they’re very grateful and technically they could’ve gone to a bank and gotten a loan to do this but they’d have a lot less wriggle room to try stuff out and repayments would’ve eaten into their profits, especially when they first started up. It’d have been harder. They’re in the good place they’re in because her parents helped them. It’s a restaurant business and fwiw her parents have 0 background in that - like none whatsoever and the two of them did work in hospitality for years before striking out on this business - so no it’s not nepotism but it’s financial privilege which Taylor absolutely had.

Someone had to put up the money to make Taylor happen, same as someone had to put up the money for my friends’ little restaurant - in her case, that was Scott and in their case it was her parents. They could’ve tried to find sponsors or mentors or record execs with big dreams but Scott had the resources to do it himself and he took a chance. Someone had to promote and develop Taylor from a marketing perspective. It could’ve been someone at a company or a mentor or whatever but Andrea had the skill set to do it herself.

it’s not calling her a nepo baby - which there’s not anything wrong with either so long as you’re actually good lol like Michael Douglas is a nepo baby who cares he’s an amazing actor - it’s just acknowledging that she had financial privilege and she’s lucky for that because it helped her achieve her dreams and it’s given us a lot of great music and a community to talk about her 🤷🏻‍♀️
