scrolling through the tag of my homestate and seeing beautiful photos of trees and wetlands and southern living that I miss so so much right next to articles about the anti-trans bills being passed where the cover is a family i personally knew and am still in touch with. seeing someone i consider my second mother cry and hold her child who's getting all of her healthcare legislated away right next to photos of beaches and spanish moss hanging off of trees in the summer sunset lighting. it's more rage than i can handle, honestly.
i keep seeing news about anti-trans and anti-queer bills and while yes, absolutely everyone should be safe to live their life openly and without fear, i feel like this is a good time to offer a reminder that you dont owe people information about yourself, especially strangers. you dont owe them personal information, you dont owe them your True Name, and not coming out isn't deceitful or outright lying, even if you are "safe". you do not owe people information, especially information that they could directly use to harm you. it all feels like something that will never happen to you until it does.
So I was reading @crimetimesteadicam 's Supermassive Retinol Overdose, as you do, and upon reaching the Concert-Hole-Goemon-Winter-Soldier-Yata-do-you-want-a-snowcone scene in Chapter 3 I thought it would make an excellent movie scene. And then I thought "Wait, I can do (something like) that"
So I studied up on gauze pop, missed the point of gauze pop, wrote a gauze-y electro pop song, watched & sampled a bunch of clips of Lupin III, threw everything into a blender, aaaaand made. sort of a. soundtrack? for the chapter?
I call it "Vitamin A." Here it is.
[CW for canon-typical gunshots, unspecified loud-ish noises, lyrics about getting high, and extremely amateur mixing]
Anyway, @crimetimesteadicam , I hope this brings you half as much joy as your fic has brought me! The flier for Da Concert Hole makes me laugh every time I read it :)
PLEASE elaborate on kurdistan vyncent we would love to hear it!!
okay so before i start i want to preface that i have only watched the first five eps, i just saw vyncent and went crazy. please forgive any grievances against canon.
So Vyncent literally reads as a first gen immigrant to me, and im a first get immigrant, so i kinda went ham on the headcanons. i like to think that vyncent and his family are kurdish but travelled around a lot, including to europe, and as a result vyncent speaks a lot of languages. he primarily spoke kurdish at home and used to mix in some arabic, but fell out of practice with arabic as he travelled away from kurdistan. though now he has nobody to share that language with and just speaks english. (also idk if it would make sense with canon but i like him not knowing english before he arrived and having to learn it, and still struggling with grammar and spelling). i think he sometimes speaks kurdish to himself so he can remember home. also he should have an accent i think more characters should have accents. i also think hes muslim, in a no powers AU he would totally be a straight up muslim immigrant with DID imo. I like the idea that he managed to take his traditional dress with him, that he picked out the fabric for, and now its one of his only reminders of home. back home he never wore it much, only for special occasions, but he likes to find excuses to wear it now (this is also why my design for him looks like that). also kurdish daggers look cool.
i just think it suits him, specifically vyncent as a kurdish immigrant. the distance from his home and culture, worrying about "back home" etc.
