Transverse versus rotary gallop (right lead)
I loosely used the word ‘canter’ for a slower transverse gallop that I posted here: https://reignofsiderians.tumblr.com/post/701664326262685696/siderian-walking-cycles-transverse-right-lead
However, true (right lead) canter is actually a three beat gait with the following pattern: Left back – Right back and Left front simultaneously – Right front. LB (1)– RB  &  LF (2) – RF (3)              The numbers indicate the beat.
Gallop is a four-beat gait in which the third beat in which the right back and left front limb hit the ground, is broken into two beats with a slight delay between right back and left front.
Then there are two forms of gallop: transverse and rotary. Rotary gallop is the fastest gait whereas transverse gallop is more energy efficient.
In transverse gallop, the front and rear follow the same order in which the limbs hit the ground. For right lead transverse gallop it would be: left back- right back - left front - right front LB (1) – RB (2) – LF(3) – RF(4)
In rotary gallop, the order in which the limbs hit the ground is switched between the front and rear. In right lead gallop the order is as follows: right back – left back – left front – right front. RB(1)– LB(2) – LF(3)– RF(4)
Suspension phase: This the moment in which all limbs are off the ground. Normally gallop has only one suspension phase: Transverse: LB - RB - LF- RF <suspension> Rotary: RB- LB - LF -RF <suspension> However, some fast animals (including Siderians) can do a double suspension rotary gallop: RB-LB <suspension> LF-RF <suspension> The Siderian in this animation has a double suspension rotary gallop, although the the first suspension phase is very short.
Lead: The last front limb that leaves the ground in a cycle is what determines whether a canter or gallop is right or left lead.
Left lead canter: RB – LB & RF– LF Left lead transverse gallop: RB – LB – RF – LF Left lead rotary gallop: LB- RB- RF – LF
Both animations are done in Blender and rendered with Eevee. This is my Demo v.1 model, so no real muscle contractions yet (only crude shapekeys) and a very simple rig done with the Rigify add-on. I hope that better animations follow with Demo v.2 and v.3

You saw him on three occasions.
The first was under the incessant flash of Penacony's lights, the ubiquitous glint of inordinate advertisements trailed behind you like children. He stood amongst the dreamers with fashion and flare: the subtle sway of his right earing was charmed you. While his shoes reflected opulence and splendour. The number pressed onto his neck- similarly pressed against the folds of your mind: the place in which the eyes stare onto the shore and cast spells of what if’s.
Yet, despite the nature of his novelties and the soulful satire of his smile, you paused- traffic and light bending into sound.
What was he? You pondered. Perhaps he is perched in towers and rolls dice like candy; pecking it afterwards. Perhaps he sharpens his shoes as he does with his eyes. Perhaps he stands still in showers of salty rain, drying his cheeks with the rim of his velvet hat.
Was he a dreamer too? You would of blinked in affirmation, griped your breath a touch tighter and trace his footsteps. Lifting it on to the palm of your hand, tucked it into the haven of your pocket, cradling it like an infant, raising it like a lush fern. A portable paradise euphonious and maternal.
From there you shifted your weight onto your good side and tapped your feet to the beat of your heart, matching it to the song of his hushed ingenious breath.
He was here before, you noted. Clearly, not for leisure nor for pleasure. His strides were candid, curt, and clever. Yet, from afar, it was as if the tip of his shoes was his only connection between ground and sky. His steps bounced, rebounding off by sheer force alone; leaping mid-air, leaping with vigour and intention, leaping over wide yawning chasms.
He was galloping towards, not bothering to gaze back. His image blended into one of a horse standing amidst fields teeming with immeasurable and verdant grassland. The horse and their lush nature, a loneliness that can't be contended with as they lowered their gaze like swans. Their mane brushed against skin; preparing to consume the earth generously all on their own- unaccompanied by instruction, coddling or order.
You pause and step back from the slender and poised length of his legs, from the cage of his chest in which gold is born and coiled, from the rings of his eyes that pirouette and roulette. Hence, pondering curiously what kind of bone does not break despite its beatings.
The second time you saw him was when the sharp pungency of grapefruit- twirled with the salt which lined the rim of your glass- produced a sweet taste on the stage of your tongue. At the time the drink was fresh, garnished and plainly odd considering the dim, velvet aura which vibrated through the bar. The taste lingered in your mouth: reminiscent of a sultry summer afternoon.
His hair, you then realized, was scintillating in the gleam of bottles and booze. You wavered a bit, eyes blurry, hot and wet like the sea. He twirled and tuned with the light, the brand of his watch blurring with another sip of rum.
You don't recall any music, however, in that liminal moment between one song and the next, between one sip and a single swallow, your mouth split open in a wide glowing grin.
One foot over the other- glass in hand- serenading in dim light, crash after crash, bass strung with tangible words- it echoed deep and slow.
From there he stares forward, kissing the rim of his glass, dissipating with light as he seems to do. For a split second, he is vulnerable in the state of lassitude.
However, not before unfurling, smiling then melting. He was flying close to the sun; grazing his hands over its rims. Bright young man, you noted.
You pause and step back from his supple lips- insoluble when met with torrents, solid when left to eternity, liquid when set alive, gone when used up.
The third and final time was when his back faced you: his body resting, arms sprawled out in surrender, a single finger twitching. The memory is slipping. Like grains of sand trailing down your hand, like silk that won't hold a knot, like how rest is destined for those who truly slumber. Everecent in nature and poise. There, you wonder soundly, what stars have been bruised onto his back, and if you'd be able to draw them together- into one grand constellation that spans from one end of the world into another infinite void of true rapture.
"What a painting- or pain really."
"For someone who can't physically feel pain, your remark is rather funny," you quip back smoothly, your gaze still set towards the man's slackened joints and inner tenderness.
"You've been sitin' here for hours," bantered Boothill, "Four months really... since we left Penacony!"
You gingerly place the paintbrush down, pausing as you gradually step back from the lifesize portrait. A streak of yellow and purple paint stains your right cheek. "Today I am done."
Boothill raises an eyebrow as he watches you lift the painting onto a mantel: unhurried as a tree. Boothill watched you, morph the image of a stranger into blinding brilliance with each fastidious detail. How your subject- him- echoed volumes, his back against the world, facing tomorrow, embracing the amorous fold of limelight before departing, walking away into nothing with a princely smile and a single wave of his hand.
"Why do you paint him?" Boothill questions, his voice oddly dim and mellow, "You know nothin' about him."
Repose is found on your face as to your reply.
Boothill emits a frustrated sigh and reaches into his pockets; retrieving a lighter, you promptly flick it alive. The flame staring at you; wavering and swaying left then right. Your eyes are subtly idyllic and lulled as if drifting soundly in prayer; relishing the final wave of maudlin and soothing nuance.
"That's why I like him."
You set the portrait aflame.
"Because I know nothing about him."

*Jousting at the Saracen device.
The "Saracen" was, or is, a public entertainment robot for Italian urban "horse ballets." This functional humanoid prop is an outsized, legless human dummy installed on a stout spinning axle.
Mounted entertainers, pretending to be medieval joust combatants, attack the Saracen from horseback, with a levelled lance.
If they strike the Saracen right along the line of the axle, the lance will commonly shatter and this is considered excellent sport.  If they're clumsy enough to miss their aim, the Saracen promptly spins on the axle and  aims a whack at them, with an extended arm that carries a club or a whip.
Judges study the joust play and award a prize to the best attacker.
The city of Turin once had a Saracen, which was deployed at public events in Piazza Castello.  The  city of Arezzo is still carrying on with its public Saracen jousts, which were revived by antiquarians and involve a lot of tourist-attractive costume play.  The Saracen of Arezzo is dignified with the name of "Buratto, King of the Indies" and has a 17th-century poem recited in his honor.

The knights' tournament is held in the Piazza Grande, guided by the Maestro di Campo and preceded by the costume characters and the town's ancient banners entering the square accompanied by the sound of trumpets and drums. Some important moments can be defined at this stage of the event: the highest authorities of the Joust entering the square (the magistrates, the Jury, the quarters' presidents), the performance of flag-wavers, the jousters galloping into the racing field, each knight representing an ancient noble family of Arezzo, the knights' arrangement on the lizza (jousting track), the Herald reading the Challenge of Buratto (a poetic composition written in octaves in the 17th century), the crossbowmen and the soldiers greeting the crowd shouting "Arezzo!", the magistrates' authorization to run the joust and finally the Joust's musicians playing the Saracen Hymn, composed by Giuseppe Pietri (1886–1946).
Then, the real competition starts. The jousters of the four gates (the real protagonists of the event) gallop their horses with lance in rest against the Saracen, an armor-plated dummy representing a Saracen holding a cat-o'-nine-tails in his hand ("Buratto, King of the Indies"). The sequence of charges is drawn on the week preceding the joust during a costume ceremony in Piazza del Comune. It's almost impossible foreseeing what the result of the joust will be: it depends on the ability, the courage and the good-luck of the eight jousters who alternate on the packed-earth sloping track (the lizza) that runs transversally across Piazza Grande. The competition is won by the couple of knights who hit the Saracen’s shield obtaining the higher scores. The quarter associated to the winning knight receives the coveted golden lance. In the event of a draw between two or more quarters after the standard number of charges (two sets of charges for each jouster), the prize is assigned with one or more deciding charges. At the end of the joust, mortar shots hail the winning quarter.
The rules of the tournament are contained in technical regulations that repeat – virtually unchanged – the Chapters for the Buratto Joust dating back to 1677. They are easy to understand, and yet worded in such a way as to guarantee a long-lasting suspense. The outcome of the fight between the Christian knights and the "Infidel" is undecided until the very last moment due to dramatic turns of events. For instance, jousters may be disqualified if they ride accidentally off the jousting track, or their scores may be doubled if their lance breaks after violently hitting the Saracen....

     This monster doesn’t appear as monstrous as one might think...  But still frightening nonetheless.  Its elongated head has no eye sockets, and its jaw is connected to the skull and cannot move.  Its neck is long, and transverse processes of the vertebrae are protruding from its flesh which almost appears to be muscle.  Even longer are the spinous processes which jut from its neck like blades, and they make metallic clinking whenever they come into contact.  Its head is usually hung low, so that sound isn’t heard very often.  When it raises its head from the ground, its chest expands and the muscles on its back can be seen contracting.  It stands on four bony hooves attached to long legs that have webbed membranes attached to it, almost like four delicate wings made of flesh.  Speaking of wings, it has those.  Two of them, to be exact.  From its back, they spread large and with an eerie majesty...  At the end of each tip is a long sharp claw, and they happen to be very reflective...  Its tail is long and made of hair, and always seems to be moving slowly, like it’s underwater.
     When this monster speaks, its mouth doesn’t move, for it cannot.  Instead, this protruding jagged pattern on its chest begins to come to life.  It speaks softly, and its voice is almost calming...  But it seems to be very demanding, always requesting the strangest of trivia from its victims.  It approaches elegantly as if its running through the deep ocean, and lays down before them like how a horse would.  After each question answered, its victim gets sleepier and sleepier...  Until they eventually doze off.  Once they are fully asleep, the mouth on the beast unhinges itself, and its entire underbelly opens up- yet there is nothing to be seen.  Everything within this creature is the purest of black.  It approaches its victim, and the mouth on its chest consumes the victim.  Their minds merge together into one, although it’s ultimately overpowered by the beast.  It takes a while for the monster to ‘digest’ the victim...  But once it does, nothing remains, and it gallops away to continue to sate its hunger.

Working with your abdominal muscles during pregnancy: what are the benefits ?

Doing abdominal work during pregnancy is recommended, and very important for pregnant women. Working your pregnant ABS prevents back pain by helping to maintain a good posture. Developing deep abdominal muscles, such as transverse and oblique, will help you when expelling a baby in childbirth. Note: always ask your midwife or doctor for advice before performing abdominal surgery during pregnancy.
Benefits of abs during pregnancy
You can do abdominal work throughout the pregnancy, but not in any way. Apply the deepest muscles to the superficial muscles. You'll need proper breathing. Pregnant abs need to be firm to maintain good posture and avoid back pain. And flexible at the same time to let the belly stretch as baby grows.
 Tip: Think about taking different positions depending on the stage of your pregnancy. For example, avoid lying down for too long. She's compressing the vena cava with risk of hypotension.
First of all, it is important to understand that the abdominal muscles can work alone. If we have proper posture, breathing, and bowel movement, we don't need to do specific exercises to solicit them.
In these conditions, the abdominal muscles are constantly under strain. They consist of a superficial layer, the large straight, oblique, and a deep layer, the transverse muscle that forms a broad belt.

 The contraction of the transverse during breathing does not compress baby. If there's no uterine contraction, baby's isolated in her water chamber, has room. The abdominals should be done with breathing, stretching the great rib under the ribs and sternum. Moving the chest away from the pubis. It is much more pleasant and natural for you and baby.

Abs to prevent diastase
To avoid a risk of diastase (wide straight on the white line), your abdominals must be firm while having the ability to stretch. For effective muscle strengthening, press the abdominal muscles in the following order:
·A transversal work of the abdomen, the deepest muscle of the abdominals. He takes part in every breath as you breathe.
·Then press the internal and external obliques, located on each side of the Big rights (chocolate bar). They're galloping around the waist.
The famous Chocolate Bar, Les grands droits work smoothly with the help of the transverse. Imagine them as suspenders over the deep muscles.
Pregnant abs exercise
Lie on your back near a wall;
 put your feet on the wall, your thighs brought back to the belly;
put your hands on your knees with your elbows pointing up and your fingers pointing towards your belly;
 exhale (blow) completely by resting on your knees, without pushing on the arms to stretch them;
lift your elbows up like wings;
try to push the floor with all your back up to the back of the head, chin up without raising your head;
well placed, you will see a hollow under your chest, at the level of the stomach;
it's like you're doing a four-legged round back, but you're on your back.;
 repeat as many times as you feel able.
Note: the position of the neck is very important, the head must remain on the ground, the chin well tightened.
This exercise will be of great help to you in childbirth. You can work your transverses every day in this way without risking diastase. This way, you will avoid always asking for your great rights and over-dismissing them
This exercise of pregnant abs to avoid diastase during pregnancy, will also help you in daily gestures like: go back to the floor or in bed to sit, get up, pick up objects, catch things in height.
Ideal during pregnancy
The yoga board, or cladding
 This posture is ideal for strengthening the back and abdominal muscles during pregnancy. It stimulates the immune system and invigorates the body. The board or cladding can be practiced on the hands for the most sporty, shoulders above the wrists. Or on the forearm, shoulders above the elbows.
Position yourself on all fours on the arms or hands, according to the above choice;
stand on your toes and take off your knees from the ground, for the most sporty;
sit on your knees if you're starting
 tighten the buttocks to tip the pubis to the ground and protect the lower back;
when exhaling, hold the navel up;
·You make a board with your body, keep the posture without bowing. Remove the chest from your navel as if you were lying on your body;
slide the homoplates towards the middle of the back;
maintain 3 to 10 breathing cycles (inspir+expir=1 cycle) according to your abilities;
the breathing is done under your ribs, as if you were trying to spread them on inspiration.
Strained Muscles: straight, transverse and stabilising muscles of the spine.
 The further the pregnancy progresses, the more difficult it will be for you to maintain your posture. You can then practice it on all fours on the forearms, resting on the knees. Stay present in the posture, especially in the 3rd trimester, to listen to your sensations. Keep the pelvis with pubis to the ground to avoid excessive arching at the back. Never Round your back.
Strengthening your abs with breathing
Breathing is life. If you watch a dog or a cat breathing, you will see that when inhaled the belly swells, and when exhaled the belly fits naturally. It's the same for us men. This natural movement keeps the ABS tonic because it makes them work with each breath.
 The breath depends on the posture. To breathe properly, you must first correct your posture. An excessively arched or arched posture prevents breathing.
 Exercise to strengthen her pregnant abdominals by breathing
Stand on all fours, body weight slightly back, not on your hands.
relax your back, imagine your spine as a wire between 2 stakes. Don't flatten your back, and relax your pelvis.;

 It's a very powerful exercise to strengthen your abdominal muscles during pregnancy. It's a good way to play pregnant sport softly while relaxing. Moreover there is no risk of diastase, and this prepares you for a smooth delivery thanks to respiratory work.
 Sitting position: exercise to strengthen pregnant ABS
sit on a chair or on a swiss ball);
put on your seat bones (the 2 bones of the buttocks);
feet flat on the ground apart width of your hips;
keep the spine stretched, back straight, but not rigid;
remove the chest from the navel;
inhale and bow on the right side, right armpit getting closer to the right hip;
souflez and return to starting position;
repeat left side.
Repeat the exercise 5 to 10 times on each side according to your feelings.
 This exercise works mainly on obliques,but also transverses through breathing. On the swiss ball, the deep muscles of the body are much more stressed.
 Natural respiration in a correct posture (back neither arched, nor arched), makes it possible to strain pregnant ABS daily, and to avoid back pain during pregnancy.

The Fruit Bard

So, I was playing a campaign yesterday, and I'm a bard. Normal D&D 5e, I could choose proficiency in up to 4 musical instruments.
I chose: Transverse Flute, Fiddle, Banjo and fruits.
Yes, fruits.
The main idea was to use it like Monthly Python's coconuts, the ones that make the galloping sound.
Anyway, I finally meet the party, they save me and I offer my services as a musician. But they already had a musician (it was a pretty big group and this was the main party).
The musician, Riven, doubts my character's abilities to take music from any fruits, so he challenged me to a duel.
He had an ebony flute, that Everytime he played it gave him +2 performance.
I had a peach.
And I fucking won against this talented musician with a fucking 1000 gold pieces worth flute with a gosh darn peach he threw at me. The Masters narration was "after Riven played his song, you were able to fucking create the most angelical Melody ever created out of the peach he threw at you, and everyone stared at you in awe, for their brains would never be able to comprehend how someone was able to such a feat."
I'm not even kidding, that was the best moment I had in every RPG I ever played.

hi! i LOVE your pegasus character - scary carnivorous equidae are always cool as heck. but as someone knowledgeable about horse anatomy, i noticed its spine is longer than most horse people consider ideal. short-backed horses are more agile, more athletic, and have less back problems (all of which seem important for aerial maneuvering). if you’re open to suggestions i’d suggest shortening the total length of your design’s spine by about the length of 3-4 of the lumbar vertebrae :-)
Thanks! I’m open to tips regarding horse anatomy because i like to delve deep into that! However the anatomy and terrestrial locomotion of Pegasus is based mainly on cheetahs and felines in general, so i’m also very open to suggestions for that. In any case i could explain why i don’t think shortening his spine is a good idea.
You’re right that his spine is longer than what a horse would find ideal. A cheetah has a different footfall(?) pattern from a horse (rotary or rotatory gallop as opposed to a horse’s transverse gallop). The cheetah runs for very short periods of time, the horse is built for long trips. The cheetah uses its long, flexible spine and beefy back muscles to increase its stride length. A horse’s back is stable, ride-able, riding a cheetah would be like riding a large caffeinated ferret. The psoas major which connects to the lumbar vertebrae plays an important role in the hindlegs’ motion - to pull back the hindlegs toward the body before they cause a slowdown by flinging out too far - and this is something a cheetah needs very much. I’m moderately sure Pegasus also has a decent caudofemoralis muscle, it plays a role in the hip’s motion (the hips rotate a bunch to further increase stride length, same reason the scapula moves a lot). I have sources but i’m not a biologist so if anyone thinks i’m misinformed please interject. D:I’m answering publicly because i’d like to share the articles i have regarding cheetahs, which some nerds might find interesting or maybe even useful?

But in version 2, I will make him move in space and do more than just walking/trotting/running on a treadmill.
It took 3 hours to render 40 frames O.O. My computer is not that shit (I have a gaming laptop), but still – it took ages even at this crap quality. So any ideas to animate parts of the Siderian story need some serious consideration; either I go for a more 2D like style with Blender’s grease pencil or I need to upgrade mu computer/pay for a render farm. I will see about that. Also - I haven't played around with the hair dynamics settings and even though I had turned some collision setting on, the fur still goes through the ground :/.
