TRIGUN ARCHIVES - RELEASING THIS FRIDAY!

Trigun Archives is an 87-page artbook containing a collection of various official art by Yasuhiro Nightow.

The first half of the book entails both half- and full-page presentations of colored art, all used in promotional material for either the 1998 anime and the manga. The range of the art goes from widely known pieces to more obscure, rarely seen pieces.

The second half of the book collects all the Omake, the author commentary and informal comics, from every singular volume releases. This includes all comics from the original Japanese run of Trigun 1-3, the re-run of Trigun 1 to 2, and all 14 volumes of Trigun Maximum.

We used a different editing style for these pages, as our usual way of removing paper texture didn't do the colored art any favors. To not ruin the details of the pieces we went with a less aggressive texture removal, while still making sure the colors didn't remain washed out. The catch is that the paper texture is still apparent, although less then in the original scans.

Hope you all will be happy with the high quality scans, nonetheless!

More TV Tropes stuff:

Gratuitous English: Gunsmoke is an explicitly English-speaking world, so this abounds. Unfortunately, Nightow's English skills are less than perfect (and the anime had Engrish abound). The second episode shows us a flier for a "BODYGARD" who is a "CREAT SHOOTER LIKE VASH THE STANPEAT". There's also a sign that says "COFFE & RESTLANT!!" in Episode 5. When Vash uses the computer in Episode 26, it says "Searth Target, All People Relate to Lem Sayblam". In the manga, there's one instance where there's a container of salt labeled "solt". The Quickdraw application in the eponymous episode is pretty legible, though. Maybe Wolfwood is just a better-than-average speller? The whiskey labels are very faithful reproductions of actual brands… except for "Dim Deam", though that may be an intentional Brand X-ing of Jim Beam. And of course, "LOVE AND PEASU!"

Am I the only one who has taken the messed-up English of Trigun - no doubt just the crew trying to create an English-speaking world, and mentally / fan handwaved it (as a native American-English speaking fan) as "Of COURSE it would be that way! This story takes place centuries into the future!" As in, yes, it makes perfect sense to me that people call them "Restlants" now and use "solt!" If you look back into history, things in the same language 100-200-300 years ago were not the same. Everyone who's had to plough through reading Shakespeare plays knows this. I read The Pilgrim's Progress as a very book-nerd teenager. That was a whole other country. I enjoy watching Tasting History with Max Miller on Youtube and I've even made some of the foods he's featured. Whenever he delves into an Old English or Old American recipe and reads the original print from an archive it's interesting how things are different ("plums" being what we'd call raisins and sometimes currants, for instance) and the delightful phrase "serve it forth." What are surely little mistakes in '98 Trigun, for me, become a part of the worldbuilding! OF COURSE language evolved! Hell, in the manga-universe, where the Earth forces come, I wouldn't be surprised if there's dialect differences between whatever Earth-English evolved into and whatever Gunsmokeans / Nomanslanders are using!

Soooo...I read a fanfic a little bit ago that really hit me in the feels HARD, and I wanted to bind it into a physical book, because bookbinding is another of my hobbies. I mentioned wanting to do that in the comments, and the author seemed excited about the idea, so now that I've gone to the effort of formatting it for binding and printing it off and begun the folding process, I figured I'd post here so I could show them that I'm actually starting this thing! 😆

For those who are curious what fic I'm going to dumb lengths about, it's Lobito by Walfs.

Here's the pages - over 300 of them, after I added some page breaks and a title page and things like that so that the registers would be even. I'm going to give it a red cloth cover, for obvious reasons, and I've got some end papers I'm going to use, though I'm not sure which ones. They're also oooold, and probably not meant for end papers, but they're handmafe artist papers, so that's what I'm using for them.

ETA: Welp. Trying to trim the page margins without a guillotine was a nightmare, so I decided to remove the margins and just reprint it all. 😆 It brought it down to just under 200 pages, but hey, that works for me, too. I'd just rather refold 49 sheets of paper than deal with the jagged edges I created, trying to trim it to size.

i used this site (has both dub and sub, i preferred sub for this) for watching stampede, but i also have fire fox+ublock origin+a bunch of other add-ons which i highly recommend if you dont have these. you can also watch the original on here (the dub is sooooo good) but heres also a youtube link for the original:

they both have their ups and downs, but after watching i highly recommend reading the manga (internet archive link here) because both of them are missing some really cool parts of the manga i really wished was in the animes. btw the first two volumes of trigun then the rest of trimax is the order

and if you like looking at art books heres the art book for the anime+ some illustrations. ive seen people passing around the stampede anime art concepts but idk where theyre getting those

Oh, Vash. He wants to rest, but he's keeping one eye open.

OMG, this page! Rem with the halo imagery over her. The way her form dominates the page but blends into Vash's, as if she's a bigger part of him than he himself is. The way he seems to be falling through the panels. Gorgeous.

Gods, I'm sure people have debated his designs in both '98 and Stampede, but here? Legato looks like a twink. A twink hiding in a big emo jacket with shoulder pads he stole from the '80s and then fed steroids.

Annnnd he's eating a hot dog. I'm not gonna read too much into that. Too late. And now you can, too.

Seriously, though. Of all the foods to import, you'd think someone would leave hot dogs behind. Or not. They do make use of the junk parts of the animal, and I guess you can't be too picky when you live in a desert wasteland.

The way they're having this conversation is suspicious.

Milly's danger sense is tingling.

I just want to point out that, when Milly says Vash's face looks frightening, this is the last expression we see him showing.

He's putting on the glasses. It's serious time. He might have to shoot someone, and he definitely doesn't want anyone else to catch a glimpse of his intentions here.

Wow. The level of force Vash shows in his wording here. It's like he's playing a card that says, "I know I'm superior to you, and given the situation, I'm going to make dead sure you know it, too."

"That monster," huh? Harsh words. Justified, perhaps. But harsh. All of this is harsh coming from such a staunch pacifist.

I just want to point out that all of this is happening after the July incident. For no reason whatsoever, I'm sure.

Legato... PLEASE don't make shitty decisions with your life. What you're suggesting is not the sort of thing likely to end in a win scenario for you....

Ok, so I'm sure some of this is because I've watched '98 and have a better feel for Legato than some... but I LOVE the imagery of him handing food to a hungry child and giving them a pat on the head. It's wrong on so many levels... but it's also a good reminder that people who are capable of absolutely terrible things are also capable of at least presenting a veneer of simple kindness.

Glad that scene upset Vash quite a bit, too.

Assuming Legato isn't bluffing, even Vash would struggle to contain that much slaughter in such a short span of time, I think. And right now, he's got a whole fountain in between him and Legato.

Vash has been gradually losing his mask through this whole conversation. Milly noticed it first, but the kids and Meryl have noticed it by now, too.

This outfit needs more straps.

For the past few months I've been checking back on the project hoping to see a mention of a Trigun Archives artbook scan being a possibility, especially considering the only pictures of its contents I've found online were on an Imgur post that is no longer up. However, I alos know that the very few examples of the book you can find for sale online go for absurd prices. Is the project team aware of Trigun Archives, and if so will you be doing a scan/translation for its contents?

Hey there and thank you for your question!

We already have scans of Trigun Archives in storage, they just require editing before they can be uploaded. We will not be doing the translations first time around, as the English Overhaul 2.0 translation takes priority.

We have a lot of scans of all kinds of released and unreleased Trigun content, and on top of the monthly Japanese releases, we don't always get the discussion going about which and when other content will be released.

Since you've brought Trigun Archives up, we'll make sure it's the next extra content we'll release.

I don't feel like writing my whole thoughts on each of these but FWIW

Here's some media I engaged with this year that I enjoyed/struck me and I thus recommend to people:

Games -Death Stranding (GOTY to me) -Inscryption (1st Act is supreme to me) -How Fish Is Made (FREEEE) -Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog (very good srsly)

Movies/Shows -Moon (sci-fi thriller, 2009) -Perfect Blue (the last of Satoshi Kon's (RIP) work I hadn't seen yet) -Bunch of "older" films I'll lump together: Soylent Green, Westworld, Arsenic and Old Lace, Dracula (Christopher Lee) -The Green Knight (artsy, 2021) -Aardman Documentary 'A Grand Night In' -Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (please release a DVD) -'Dennou Coil' and 'Orbital Children' (same director so. strong character writing imo especially as far as 'realistic kid' attitudes) -Trigun (with friends! holds up well - earned the classic label) -One Piece Live Action (actually kind of ...good??)

Books -Dark Archives (2020, Rosenbloom) -Dostoevsky Short Stories (Eternal Husband in particular was gripping) -History of the Comic Strip (Couperie, Horn, et al., 1968 - I re-read this every so often it's truly fascinating) -Unsure if it was this year or last year I went on a Philip K. Dick binge but various of those short stories...

#me speak #i mean i have opinions on each of these but lol anyway try some of these out fellas #tho i will say my tastes are all over the place but summarily 'slower paced unsettling' #this doesnt include some other re-reading i did bc i was in flux as well as folktale collections from Holland #also doesnt include things ongoing such as OP TLD etc etc aka things i play or read for years now haha #'wheres MUSIC' buddy i am terminally broken and #listen to either angry italian man talk about sonic the shitlog or 13th century early music and nothing in between
