"Trapped in a mirror": From archival artifact to Gem Warrior [Part 2]
Continued from part 1
youtube
More fundamentally, when Steven heals/eliminates the crack in the gemstone of Lapis, he is engaging in a form of record conservation. It also predictably makes her friendly to Steven, as she freed him from a prison she had been in for over 6,000 years. The healing of Lapis' gemstone by spit by Steven fulfills what the Dictionary of Archives Terminology's definition of conservation:
The repair or stabilization of materials through chemical or physical treatment to ensure that they survive in their original form as long as possible.
Reprinted from my Wading Through the Cultural Stacks WordPress blog. Originally published on Feb. 8, 2023.
However, Steven is no conservator. But, on some level he is engaging in preservation, i.e. "the act of keeping from harm, injury, decay, or destruction, especially through noninvasive treatment" as the aforementioned dictionary describes. Healing someone's gem, on their back, and making them more a full person Gem warrior, as she can now form water wings, seems noninvasive to say the least. It allows her to leave and return to her world, meaning he did a great service.
Luckily the episode, "Ocean Gem", where Steven heals her Gem was not the end of the series, as Jones-Quartey revealed. It allowed us to learn more about Lapis, the mirror she was trapped in, and have her character expanded on as the series went forward. Re-watching the episode, I also realized that the Gems just saw the mirror as an artifact, not thinking there was a person (a Gem) inside, as shown in this scene, with Pearl claiming the mirror is only "supposed" to be following orders, not understanding the mirror itself. Garnet just calls it a "tool" and says it can't "want anything":
youtube
On one hand, Steven is the only person who cared for Lapis, got her out of her prison. On the other, he is the first person who properly cared for the artifact (the mirror) and interacted with it. When the mirror was in Pearl's memoryscape, it set idle, with no one knowing what to do with it, sitting in storage, collecting dust. Steven is allowing the artifact to have a second life. Sure, the magical mirror was broken, but with Lapis freed, it has no value anymore.

More in the Mindbroken geodes AU
The Feanorians show up for lunch, and quickly decide this has to be a Family Meeting. They try asking Maedhros what's going on, but as far as he's concerned the only weird thing is that they're here too.
After a few minutes though, Maedhros realizes that Celegorm is not his new master and panics at having guessed wrong and revealed Fingon’s secrets - he doesn’t know what’s supposed to be secret - but he talked about Fingon both fucking him and giving him good food, one of those has to be against the rules - and one of the rules was to not reveal how Fingon treats him - and does this mean that Fingon is still his master after all, or is he abandoned and free for whoever grabs him first - Feanor looks angry will he fuck Maedhros and be Maedhros’s new master -
What this looks like to everyone else in the room is Maedhros’s eyes going wide and him going silent. Then him shaking from fear as he gets up from his chair and kneels with his head bowed.
Naturally his family starts freaking out. Something weird is going on with Maedhros, and he won’t explain what.
He's not the type to play pranks like this. He's also not the type to forget about the last day-or-more (however long it took to get those scars).
Also they really can’t take more than a couple hours without Feanor or Curufin working in the forge. And it's Maedhros’s turn to please Fingolfin tonight, so they need to give Fingolfin another option, and one he’ll like better than his most eager whore.
Just saying Maedhros isn’t feeling well will probably get Maedhros out of sex tonight, as no one wants someone vomiting on their dick. But not out out punishment for failing his duty to the High King.
For tonight, they can go with the twincest angle and Amrod and Amras can go?
They hate it but they’re good at coordinating, making Fingolfin feel like he has one lover so talented that they don’t have to stop sucking his cock to kiss a trail up his chest.
Fingolfin likes humiliating his brother but they really can’t spare Feanor from the forge, if he’s already going to spend a couple hours figuring out what happened to his eldest son.
And also Maedhros isn’t sure what’s going on but is still responding in monosyllables to Feanor, as an Authority Figure, and not answering his brothers at all.
Maglor says a whole lot of simple facts to Maedhros, watching how he reacts. “We’re in the palace. No one but the royal family can come into these rooms. You don’t have to leave unless the royal family summons you. We love you very much. No one is going to hurt you. Fingon and Fingolfin rarely come here.”
Eventually they manage to get across to Maedhros that they belong to Fingolfin and the rest of the royal family, so he doesn’t have a single master, but that other people are permitted to rape them too.
Or at least, Maglor communicates to Maedhros that Maglor claims that.
Maedhros knows that thralls are frequently confused about what they’re allowed to do, and only corrected with punishment with no explanation. It could be that Maglor’s Master just hasn’t punished Maglor for sleeping with Fingon yet, or that Maglor and Maedhros have different Masters.
And Maglor could be lying. That happens, with thralls less well trained than Maedhros. Rather than try to coordinate all the slaves in best pleasing their Master, they try to maneuver for the less painful parts, or to be the favorite by tricking someone into breaking the rules.
Maedhros will trust Fingon or Fingolfin if they explain. Fingon was his Master and Fingolfin is the king. In the meantime, Maedhros will kneel naked in his cell, out of the way of anyone important.
Everyone in the room, including Maedhros, is well aware that they can’t summon Fingon or Fingolfin to their quarters. It would be an insult for a servant to think they can move a king or prince.
But if Maedhros goes to Fingon unrequested, he can be raped by anyone on the way.
Normally, that’s a “it sucks but deal with it” situation
Today though, Maedhros seems to believe he’s reserved or something, and would feel like he betrayed Fingon? Also he might fight back, which would get them all in trouble.
Eventually they settle on the plan: They let Maedhros go back into his bedroom. Feanor and Curufin go back to the forge. Amras and Amrod rest up for tonight. Celegorm and Caranthir take turns keeping watch outside Maedhros’s door - they’re not exactly imprisoning him, but they want to know if he starts doing something weirder.
And Maglor goes to find Fingon.
Maglor is the best at talking people around after Curufin (busy) and Maedhros (currently not sane?). Maglor will attempt to convince Fingon to summon Maedhros, along with Maglor or Caranthir to take notes and so that there is some sort of witness for the family as to what the heck the explanation is because Fingon sure won’t tell them afterwards.
And of course, Maglor can bring a bag to carry any gold he makes on the way.
So Maglor goes out. It’s not forbidden for the Feanorians to approach the princes and try to seduce them, they usually just don’t, unless they really want a material.
Maglor gives two blowjobs in between the Feanorian wing and Fingon’s bedroom, which is empty. He rides one of the doormen “enthusiastically”, and learns that Fingon is in the training yard.
Maglor tells Fingon that Maedhros is acting oddly today. He doesn't know where he is, and he has new scars, and he's absolutely obsessed with pleasing Fingon in particular. Not just pleasuring Fingon physically, but also not wanting to fuck strangers because it will make him too exhausted to do what Fingon wants.
(That's not exactly what Maedhros said, of course. But Maglor isn't sure that Fingon will interpret "The town whore thinks he's your prized possession" as a compliment.)
Fingon thinks that sounds hot. He tells Maglor that Maedhros should meet him in his bedroom. And sure, Maglor can accompany Maedhros if he thinks Maedhros doesn’t know the way.
Maedhros, despite not totally trusting Maglor, isn't going to just disobey a relayed order from Fingon! He goes along cooperatively, including getting dressed when Maglor says those are the rules for public hallways.
Fingon orders Maedhros to strip as soon as he arrives, because Maedhros naked is sexy. A little less so with the scars that yeah, definitely were not there last week.
Fingon proposes the obvious test for if this is an impostor, and has Maedhros suck him off. Fingon doesn't really need another geode, but it's fun.
Nothing happens?
Well, Fingon comes, but nothing else.
Maedhros is confused what was supposed to happen.
While, they say Maiar don’t have Things, though most of the ones with vaguely elven bodies can orgasm such that it counts for their partner.
And animals don’t. Even if an elf stimulates a bull for cattle breeding, the elf’s Thing doesn’t appear.
Fingon is going to be very pissed if Maglor tricked him into bestiality.
(This is not in the top ten things Maglor expected to go wrong.)
Fingon jerks Maedhros off, who responds beautifully if a bit quietly.
A lump of steel appears, just as when Fingon rides Celegorm (when he lets him finish).
Anyway, Fingon is now curious about the Maedhros without a geode.
And Maedhros is fairly sure he’s supposed to do what Fingon tells him. All his previous silence and small confessions had been his best guesses, but now Fingon will tell him what to do.
If Fingon wants a full history of his own ownership of Maedhros, Maedhros will be happy to provide. Complete with showcasing Fingon’s name tattooed behind his balls.

✨Hello hello!✨
I'm Amethyst (she/her), and I'm your local fanfic gremlin. I've written a lot for a lot of fandoms, right now I am caught in the Hermit/Traffic/Empires brainrot, and if that's how you've ended up here, welcome welcome!
Right now, I have two WIP AUs!
Through the Sky-Blue Cracks 🌤️
My Hot Guy/Cute Guy, Over-City/Under-City AU that has a lot more going on in it now, it's grown pretty big and is organized in chronological order, not by publishing order, so I write up and down on the timeline filling in parts and pieces as I go!
TTSBC takes place in a modern/slightly sci-fi AU with superheroes, biotech, secrets to hide, trauma to unpack, and as much humor as I can attempt to fit in as well!
Features the local superheroes crushing on each other, anxious writer meets intrepid reporter, the drama professors who can't keep their hands to themselves, penpals gone wild, resident middle-aged married couple who happen to be a mobster and a mad genius, the local cottagecore lesbians, bad boy butterfly and cat lady, protective big sister, Zom-Mom and Sentient Glowstick, a very tired Guy-in-the-Chair with a permanent headache, and more yet to be added! I've got lots of plans left for this AU, so if you're interested, please come check it out!
Tags for the AU are:
#through the sky blue cracks
#ttsbc au
#ttsbc ficlets
Traveling Thieves 🪽
My dark fantasy AU! This one has some heavy themes going on, so I'd encourage reading the tags carefully before jumping in! I'm very proud of how it is turning out, dealing with breaking out conditioned headspaces, survival in a sick system, negotiating power imbalance, the power of friendship (no, really), and of course we've got elves, mercenaries, magic, swords, sorcery, rogues, redstone, and lots more fun stuff like that! Also lots of adorable birbs, one traumatized fiery boy, a mer with an attitude, a good doggo, and hurt/comfort galore! Giving everyone a chance to believe that they've all got a shot at getting lucky.

Amethysts Scribbling Corner 📝
A little side project of mine to try and stretch my writing style!
Once in awhile, I will be running a poll with prompts that have been sent in via reblogs, replies, asks, and messages! Please send some in if you have any ideas!
Whatever prompt wins the poll, I will write and add to the series!
They can be as broad as a simple one-word prompt, or you can even give a brief description of a couple of sentences! Last thing: Feel free to request where you want the fic to take place! Especially when we're talking Hermit/Traffic/Empires stuff, if you want it to be within the Minecraft server world of that specific series, within a certain one of the Life Series, a modern AU, a fantasy AU, or even TTSBC or Traveling Thieves if you have ideas for them! Just know that if anything requested for TTSBC or Traveling Thieves contradicts or maybe overlaps with any future plans for those AUs, I might not be able to accept them 😓
As far as rules go...I do not write NSFW. I am happy to write romance and let things get a little spicy 🔥 but keep in mind I'll always end up fading to black...also no heavy gore, violence, body horror, things of that nature. I am very much a fan of writing whump and hurt/comfort though, so please send those ideas my way!
Tags for the series are:
#amethysts scribbling corner
I think that's all that going on with me right now...so yeah! I use this blog for my scribbling corner prompts as well as asks about any of my AUs or writing projects! I love getting the chance to ramble about my worldbuilding, so by all means, give me an excuse and I will make entire posts about that sort of thing!
Thanks for coming by! 💖

Ancient Necklace from Georgia (South Caucasus), c. 100-200 CE: this necklace is almost 2,000 years old; it includes an amulet case with a ram's head carved in amethyst, a garnet-studded perfume vial, and a chain woven from gold
Tumblr media
The necklace features two unique pendants:
The uppermost pendant is a hollow, puck-shaped medallion with a removable lid that opens from the front, allowing the pendant to be used as a container/locket (possibly for a textual amulet or similar item); the lid is decorated with an amethyst relief of a ram's head, along with a ring of alternating turquoise and garnet stones. Turquoise tiles can also be seen running along the outer edge of the amulet case.
The second pendant is a hollow, pear-shaped container used for storing perfume or incense. The body of this second vessel (and its cap, which forms the top of the pendant) is decorated with a series of garnet "spikes."
Both pendants are made of gold, and the primary chain is crafted from a series of gold strands that have been twisted into a thick wicker-work pattern.
This necklace was found in the ancient necropolis of Armaziskhevi (located near Mtskheta, Georgia) which is a site that was once used by members of the local aristocracy, including the provincial governors (Pitiakhsh) and high-ranking nobles (Eristavi) of Kartli/Iberia, in what is now the Republic of Georgia.
I know I've mentioned this in some of my previous posts, but just for reference, here is a map showing the location of modern-day Georgia:

Invisibility In Witchcraft
Invisibility is something we see in all different types of media for a very long time - superhero comics and movies, Harry Potter book and movie series, fairy tales and lore from several countries. It is one of those powers that even in modern science they have been trying to create true invisible cloaks and armor for military use. Though invisibility in literature and movies is not the same as when we refer to it in witchcraft. So let us talk about this aspect of magic today, a brief history and even some modern day spells.
Tumblr media
What is Invisibility Magic?
Invisibility magic is magic of concealing oneself, others, places and objects from detection. As stated above it is not in the literal sense of you vanishing from sight however think of it like a cloaking device - it helps you go unnoticed or makes you less likely to be observed. Of course take this with a grain of salt - magic has its limits. However, an invisibility spell can help you as an additional buffer of protection. Often times, invisibility spells are to ensure special items you have hidden away go undetected such as your grimoire on a bookshelf or sigils of protection scattered about your home, it can also be used for oneself or others to help them travel in safety.
History
Old manuscripts and grimoires dating back to the 1600s have been found describing spells for invisibility. These such spells include chanting, potions and rituals said to help the caster ‘vanish’ from people’s views or travel unseen. One of these manuscripts has been archived if you wish to see it here and another here please keep in mind these are old scripts and may not be safely done today - do your research on ingredients and if they are safe to use modernly.
Though invisibility in witchcraft is a bit harder to dig up, invisibility has a long and rich history in religion, folklore and tales. Many creatures, spirits and persons of lore, legend and story through the centuries are said to vanish without a trace or go unseen by normal people.
In the cases of witchcraft though it is harder to find information on it, as listed above some old manuscripts were found listing methods of invisibility. Some other methods listed have been carrying the heart of a bat or a toad or frog under one’s garments (or their right arm) can render you harder to detect. Others speak about how black hens and chickens may be related to invisibility by using their feathers as charms. Mercury historically was used as a method to be deemed invisible, with using it to make jewelry or charms a popular method - however perhaps not safe in modern day terms. Another grimoire called “The Second Book of the Secrets of Albertus Magnus” states that wrapping an Ophethalminus stone in a Laurel leaf will render the wielder invisible. What is an Ophethalminus stone? It is commonly accepted and believed he was referring to a Lapis Lazuli stone.
Tumblr media
Correspondences
Of course modern day invisibility calls for more modern day correspondences - to help insure the user and caster are using ingredients that relate to what they seek. Below is a brief list of some correspondences - please research before ingesting or applying anything to the skin. Hi! I started a podfic series for @amethystfairy1 's ttsbc au! (with permission from the author), and i just posted the first part, "Pretty Boy"
Feel free to check it out if you're interested, and if you don't wanna listen to my cringe voice and accents, please check out TTSBC and Amethyst's other works! (I could gush about her writing for a long time, and she makes two of my favorite series, but this is long enough as is!)
