Castor and Pollux (1790) Filippo Tagliolini, Italian (1745-1809), bisque porcelain.
Castor and Pollux (or in Greek, Polydeuces) were twin half-brothers in Greek and Roman mythology, known together as the Dioscuri.
Their mother was Leda, but they had different fathers; Castor was the mortal son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, while Pollux was the divine son of Zeus, who seduced Leda in the guise of a swan. Though accounts of their birth are varied, they are sometimes left to have been born from an egg, along with their twin sisters Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra.
In Latin the twins are also known as the Gemini (literally "twins") or Castores, as well as the Tyndaridae or Tyndarids. Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together, and they were transformed into the constellation Gemini.

Note
kicking in the fucking door at the apocalyptic trumpet blast katsignal that is your reblog of the "send me a character" meme with the whole greek squad: tyndareus, hippodamia, agamemnon, tydeus, my beloved diomedes tydides, and the one, the only helen tyndaridas.
tyndareus
First impression — it's been so long but i think it was curiosity
Impression now — someone give that man some chalk, some milk and tuck him in. he is so stressed.
Favorite moment — i like it whenever he establishes rapport with pony and whenever he tells texas to fuck off.
Idea for a story — 70s era fic with him hanging out with helen and pony all day
Unpopular opinion — i don't have one!
Favorite relationship — tyn and atreus and tyn and helen are jockeying for first
Favorite headcanon — literally, omega4omega but texas is the singular exception and he kinda regrets that at times
hippodamia
First impression — the first time she came up i felt sad, esp bc at that point, pelops and her weren't a real even relationship and one where he was closeted
Impression now — i love ehr so muuucchhhhhh
Favorite moment — possessing helen to stab paris when he hurt pony
Idea for a story — i would really love to write a fic of her and pelops at some point, or something where she was able to meet pony while alive
Unpopular opinion — i have none
Favorite relationship — her and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren
Favorite headcanon — mene + pony have her hair type for the most part and wear it similarly lengthed at different points; she liked jennifer immediately and could tell she was The One; she was way more impulsive in life than what she is in death
aga
First impression — i envisioned the entirely wrong man at first so he was also super old to me on accident
Impression now — insane drip, garbage personality
Favorite moment — any time pony decides to square up with him and also any time mene tells him to go fuck himself
Idea for a story — i wouldn't write it but i would read the comedy of aga being annoyed with a new sibling
Unpopular opinion — hm. i don't think i have any?
Favorite relationship — him and mene being super toxic is fun for what it can force pony to do
Favorite headcanon — in sacramento aus, he's having a really good time and is kinda happy he got what he wanted. but has no idea orestes is going to kill him and when he can't get mene or helen, would go after pony
tydeus
First impression — who's he?
Impression now — SOBBING I LOVE HIM. HE'S JUST A GUY! AN OLD GUY! AND HIS SON!
Favorite moment — taking in molly
Idea for a story — i would like 5k of tydeus and dio and molly, 80s movie style. mene and pony can cameo.
Unpopular opinion — zero
Favorite relationship — him and dio, him and molly
Favorite headcanon — he knew all along about the cenzo and atreus relationship conflict before either realized what was going on
dio
First impression — i have got to make this guy the most fun guy ever
Impression now — he's some guy and he's perfect
Favorite moment — literally anytime he's roasting mene or hanging out with him. and when he made pony dinosaur mac and cheese even though it was hurting his spirit
Idea for a story — him and molly getting together and all the awkwardness initially involved. or something in podverse.
Unpopular opinion — it's equally funny to have him with ace but not as much depth.
Favorite relationship — him and tydeus tugs at the delicate strings of my heart
Favorite headcanon — could not be happier to mostly be a stay at home dad for his kids first few years of life
helen
First impression — me, watching troy way back when: nice dress but she's boring :(
Impression now — i love her and i will stab on sight if anyone thinks her and paris are meant to be together
Favorite moment — too many to choose from but her releasing a pigeon inside is an all timer
Idea for a story — my id is always calling to me about helen finding out about pony being with her very divorced brother
Unpopular opinion — paris/helen is evil
Favorite relationship — pony and helen bffs forever
Favorite headcanon — her and pony having the same height sometimes makes me all happy

Gemini
The fact that Kanon was hidden makes no sense to me, so...
Gemini
Sing, clear-voiced Muse, of Castor and Polydeuces, the Tyndaridae, who sprang from Olympian Zeus. Glorious children of neat-ankled Leda, Castor the tamer of horses, and blameless Polydeuces.
Children who are deliverers of men on earth and of swift-going ships when stormy gales rage over the ruthless sea. (...)
Hail, Tyndaridae, riders upon swift horses! –Homeric Hymns 17 and 33
Uncomfortable, the Gods' Messenger rested all his weight on his right leg. He was not supposed to stay much (busy as he was with all his duties), but now he could not go. Not without the person he had carried to the Olympus.
In front of him, an informal committee seemed to be taking place. He felt bad once more for the man crying on his knees.
“I beg you, Father”, blond locks covered his face, wet with tears. “Please, bring my brother back. You have the power. I’ve never asked for your help before. Please.” He leaned even more, his hands now extended. He was not able to contain himself.
The minute Hermes touched Olympus, the Tyndaridae ran to Zeus’ chambers. How he knew where to look, Hermes had no idea. Pain consumed his heart, it was all he could tell.
“You’re making quite a scene. On your feet, Pollux”. That, and only that, made Pollux put himself together. He cleaned the tears on his face. He raised a hand to his heart, probably trying to not fade right there. The brunette goddess looked bothered. Annoyed, almost. “He has died in battle, as an honorable warrior. His time is done.”
“No! My Lady, it was not his time!”
“Mortal lives are short, you’ve always known that”. Pallas closed her hazel eyes.
The blond looked at her. She was untouched. He served her, but she was not showing any feeling for his pain. She did not care at all! Pollux looked at Zeus again. “Please. Is all I ask”, he whispered.
In front of him, an immense throne rested. With the left leg crossed over his right, a man with a gray mane looked at the situation, pondering. There was no doubt of his power; his presence was mighty and intimidating.
A laugh interrupted the touching scene. A man with long, cerulean hair stood up and walked towards Pollux. “You’re such a joke, Zeus. You know damn right that Castor didn’t deserve to die like that. Give my nephew what he’s asking for, or I’ll do it myself. Are you forgetting who they are, who they’ve helped? Castor deserves immortal life as much as my nephew”.
Athena frowned. “No. He was given a mortal life, and that mortal life has ended. A life, that’s all they have.”
Zeus ruffled his hair, now also annoyed. He couldn’t tell why Athena was so insulted. Weren’t the Dioscuri part of her new army; wasn’t the death of the twin unfortunate for her? What was going on?
“Give my nephew his twin back, brother. He’s one of my favorites!” dropped Poseidon suddenly, still laughing. The younger son of Cronus noticed how his daughter tightened her grab on Nike. So that was it? He then remembered how mad Athena was when Poseidon gifted the twins with those beautiful horses; how much he has always kept them close to his heart.
Interrupting his thoughts, his son gave a step towards him. His face, the face of the heart-broken ones.
“Half my divinity for his life. Give him back to me, and I’ll happily give half–no, all my divinity”.
“How you dare to-!” Zeus raised a hand towards Athena, silencing her.
“Have you listened to that, big brother? Do you agree?”. Hermes gasped when he felt the dark and ominous presence. Athena immediately stood up.
Silent, elegant, eyes closed, Hades was entering the room. He did not seem to pay attention to Athena. Hermes then remembered it was the Spring Equinox, which meant Hades was there to deliver Persephone to her mother.
“I did, yes. You’ll have your twin back, Tyndaridae”. Pollux dropped to Hades’ foot.
“Thank you, Eubuleus. I’ll never forget this”.
“Let it be done, then. You won’t be an immortal anymore, son. I hope you know what you’re doing”. Hermes felt bad for the man again. He could not see the smirk on Hades face dedicated to his niece.
The goddess walked towards her warrior. “I won’t forget this, either. Castor can no longer fight on my side, even his name shall remain in the shadows forever. All generations to come will know about this betrayal of yours, Pollux”. She left the room without looking back. Pollux smiled, eyes closed. “As long as Castor can walk under the sun, I’ll accept that''. Hermes made a sign to the now mortal man, and both left the room.
Poseidon smiled at Hades. “Have you freed his soul already?”
“Not yet.”
“Send it to me”.
"What?”
“Oh, you heard our niece, she won’t take him back. Give him to me, I do have some space left.”
Zeus rolled his eyes, tired, but he preferred to focus on Hades’ rare visit. He could take care of the Polydeukes’ fate later.

i. within his family, the talk of castor's birth is a taboo due to the circumstances surrounding it. he was supposed to be born with a twin, however the other was still born and many view it as an unholy omen. he was brought up believing he is an only child, however it’s a complete accident that he hears the slip of truth from a few drunken relatives at a family dinner.
ii. to a certain extent, castor is aware that he isn’t quite normal compared to other people. there is always a sense of something missing, a gaping hole in his heart that couldn’t be fulfilled. he doesn’t know what it is that is missing, but the emptiness of his makes him insatiable to people’s attention and affection, be it physical or emotional. he doesn’t tell this to his family or people around him, in fear of the hole growing bigger in his heart.
iii. he doesn’t want to be a doctor, but rather forced into it due to his family constantly chasing for prestige and honour. while he excels in his studies, he feels miserable and dreads the day when he finishes his study.
iv. he talks to himself a lot and usually in various voices to cope with the feeling of emptiness. the habit first started when he was a child, but he never grew out of it and stuck with it. he doesn’t tell anyone about it because he knows how crazy it comes off towards others.
savvies:
i. proficient with the use of a knife. he is a medical student aiming to be a surgeon, it is a given that he’s good with knives.
ii. detailed oriented and composed during moments of high stress, it is one trait that makes his family believe that he will succeed as a surgeon.
iii. wide vocal range, if castor isn’t being pushed to be a doctor, he would have been a great singer for his wide vocal range. he often uses this to talk to himself when the feeling of emptiness is too overbearing.
iv. good reflexes, it is unknown if this is something he is born with or naturally built up due to the various sports he used to play as a child.
v. puzzles of any kind are a good de-stressor for castor. he personally prefers playing horror games or fps games as a way to hone his attention to detail and ability to operate under high stress.
powers & abilities: bio-fission (copying/cloning themselves or their ‘soul twin’), aerokinesis, the ability to copy their twins, atmospheric gas manipulation, flight, stellar manipulation, ermískinesis, shapeshifting (into other humanoids only), reality warping, precognition (only involving their twin), empathy with touch, fusion with their twin (to create basically one more powerful version of themselves for an allotted amount of time.
traits: empathetic . needy
BACKGROUND CHECK:
Date of Birth: July 25th 1998
Date of Death: N/A
Crime Record: N/A
Background/Biography:
born to the kung family, castor was a privileged child who was raised with only the best given to him. his family had an extensive history of fame and prestige, being an old money family that focuses on the value of tradition. anyone who bears the name of kung is expected to make a name for themselves, living only as the best and nothing less.
such expectation was given to castor, the seemingly “ golden child ” of the family, yet such a title also came with the hush whisper of a shadowed secret. he was sheltered away from the world and every grim and dirty thing that his parents found unfitting in their eyes. perhaps it is the spoiling of his parents that made him so empty as a child, with a gaping void in his heart for something that he doesn’t know of.
like any child, he was given only the best education and participated in numerous lessons and sports. however nothing satisfied him; the constant showering of praises and compliment, the shining gold medals that lay to collect dust on his shelf or the never growing achievement that seems meaningless in his eyes. he wanted more, craved for more but never knew what it was that his heart yearned.
and now as an adult, castor finds himself lost in a new country with the pressure of his family into a path that he doesn’t quite feel committed to. the devouring sensation of emptiness seems to be unstoppable no matter how much he ignores it, yet he feels a calling towards him that guides him into the busy streets of adoeg, south korea. perhaps now it is time for him to truly find himself within the mysterious that lurks among adobe, to finally break out of the small world that he had been isolated in for so long and see it for what it is with his own two eyes.
INTERVIEW QUESTION (para sample): “Just run us through what happened that night”. - Officer
tw: description of blood && gore.
❝ just run us through what happened that night ❞.
he could feel the scratches against his skin of the slowly drying blood on his what used to be a pristine white dress shirt. the uncomfortable stickiness as bits of half dry liquid cling itself against his skin, contrasting brightly against the dimly light interrogation room that he had found himself within. the cheap plastic chair digged painfully in his back, a welcome distraction away from the fact that he’s sitting in a police station covered in blood, someone else’s blood.
castor doesn’t need to turn his face to know how repulsive he looked, his sandy blond curls sticking closely to his forehead as his fingers unconsciously pick at the drying scabs of blood that covered his hands. the officer before him was a middle aged man with a few grey hairs standing stark against the ebony black, signs of an overworked and tired officer who very much would like to be at home than in front of a blood soaked medical student. at least the other was considerate of his emotional and mental state, words coming out a bit softer and less abrasive as he narrows his eyes carefully towards the blonde hair male that is curled into the tiny seat. it was a sharp numbing pain from his lips that reminded castor of his current predicament, that the male before him is waiting for his answer though now a bit less patient than before. sharp taste of iron fills his mouth, and he briefly wonders if this is his own blood or the blood of the victim. he doesn’t ponder on the morbid thought for too long.
❝ i was heading back to the campus after my shift at the hospital, i intended to take the bus back but i needed a breather. so i took a detour instead and decided to walk to the next stop instead to wait for the bus. next thing i know, there is a dying lady in front of me. ❞ finally did he raise his head up to meet the other’s sharp stare, his already dark eyebags even more evident by the shadowing of the singular lightbulb hanging in the room. what else is he supposed to tell the officer? it wasn’t like he had made plans to see a near death gasping lady with a large hole in her chest reaching to him for help. ( in the end his effort was futile, she had passed away the moment the authorities arrived at the scene. his entire body covered in vermillion, steady hands still pressed against her gaping chest and eyes wide at the realization that he didn’t save her. )
❝ that’s it? you just so happen to see her on the floor with a hole in her chest? ❞
the officer’s tone wasn’t accusing but the subtext of it was there. castor knows well of the implication behind those words, it isn’t a normal occurrence to be covered from head to toe in someone’s blood. ❝ yes. she was on the floor, with a large hole in her chest and gasping at me for help. what was i supposed to do? ❞ frustration slips into his words as he uncurls himself, tense and hungry as the weight of the whole situation comes crashing into his body. ❝ i’m a medical student, i am studying to be a surgeon. i am to save someone if they need it and she needs my help. am i just supposed to leave her bleeding there on the floor? if so then i would make a shit ass doctor. ❞ anger flares in the bottom of his gut and at this point castor isn’t sure what he is angry at. the long day that doesn’t seem to end? the fact that he tried to save someone and end up watching them die in his hands? or the fact that he is currently being held as a suspect for the death of a stranger he doesn’t know? ( maybe it’s everything, the fact that his studies hasn’t prepared him enough to be thrown into this situation. the dawning realisation that this would be his life now, that he would have to watch people die because he is incapable of doing anything about it. the clawing holds of how there is nothing he can do about the situation, but to deal with it like most things in his life. )
the officer gives a grunt of dissatisfaction, perhaps at his snarky remark or the fact that someone is dead and they have no suspect to start solving it. crossing his arms, the officer remains a cold stare on him, eyes so piercing that it can perhaps burn a hole through his body. ( would it be like the lady? how the wound is larger than his hand, seemingly caused by a rough tear of either vicious teeths or a clawed fist. so deep that he could see the detailed tears of the muscles around it, even the clarity of the pounding heart that is rapidly trying to pump out the blood that is slowly seeping into the cold dirty road that they laid on. how easy the bones snapped around it, like it was mere clay as shards of it protrude outwards. ❝ s-save me . . . p-please . . . ❞ )
tense silence filled the room and now castor is dully aware of the sharp smell of rust filling his nose. right, he needs a shower, perhaps bare minimum of three to even get rid of the smell that now seemingly clings to his body. and the shirt is too far gone to be saved, which is a shame since this was his favorite dress shirt. ❝ i just wanted to save her. that’s it. ❞ his voice finally broke through the silence, quiet and empty as he falls backwards into the tiny plastic chair. his head turns upwards towards the ceiling and he could feel wetness travelling down his cheeks, searing hot as the officer before him softens his expression. ❝ what was i supposed to do? tell me. ❞
the officer had no answers, and neither did castor.
it was just a matter of him being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Primary Role: DPS, Solo Secondary Role: Situational Role:
The Dioscuri have been the bane of my existence every since having to fight them in Olympus, so I'm finally doing this analysis. To start off with, their generation is pretty good. Thanks to their numerous passives and good hit counts, the Dioscuri end up having fairly good Arts cards and decent Quicks for NP generation. Their Quicks are also 5 hit Quicks, so they end up having pretty good star generation too. Their NP also has 8 hits, which means it can generate a fair amount of refund.
The Dioscuri's 1st skill is by far their most interesting skill, and the wildest one. For 3 turns, the Dioscuri will generate 10 crit stars for every Arts card and 10% NP gauge for every Quick card, providing a balance of effects for both types of cards and the majority of their kit. Over 3 turns in a party this skill will probably add up to 20+ stars and 20% NP gauge, which isn't too bad on its own, but the real way to make this star of a skill shine is in solos, or with Summer BB. There you can guarantee either 30+ Crit stars a turn or 10+ crit stars and 20+% NP gauge a turn for 3 turns, ramping the Dioscuri up like an engine. This also means the Dioscuri fits in well with both Arts and Quick supports. This skill is frankly amazing when used right, and even fairly decent just normally.
Guardians of Navigation is a more defensive Voyager of the Storm. It provides less power in exchange for providing 1 hit of debuff immunity. Overall its a decent exchange, and this skill ends up being fairly decent but not amazing overall. Compared to other Servants with similar skills, the Dioscuri can typically loop their NP with the right chains and hence need something a little better than a 1 turn steroid. This skill is still decent and completes the buff trifecta fo the Dioscuri.
The Dioscuri's variation of Mana Burst is also pretty good. A moderate buff to both Arts and Quick card performance and 1 turn of Evasion makes for a fairly compact skill, but this skill is almost always used as an offensive buff rather than a defensive buff because of the Dioscuri's playstyle. The buff is fairly small, but combos well with their NP.
Speaking of their NP, it possesses the rare combination of being able to pierce invulnerability and ignore defensive buffs. This means that its extremely difficult for the opponent to lower the damage of their NP except through debuffs, which they have some protection against. In addition, it will also lower the opponent's Arts and Quick resistance, making further NPs do more damage, and generate more refund. This NP is quite good and will continue to deal more and more damage as time goes on.
Supports: Both Arts and Quick supports are good to use alongside the Dioscuri. Arts supports will help the Dioscuri gain more NP and do more damage with their NP, but Quick supports will allow them to lean into their Quick cards to deal damage. Skadi is by far the best Servant to use as a Quick support for this purpose. The Dioscuri also benefit a lot from Servants who can provide Critical damage buffs, since they will generate a lot of stars on their own.
Summer BB is a notable Servant to use here because she can guarantee that the Dioscuri will get specific cards for 3 turns, as well as provide more critical stars. Creating pseudo-solo conditions is pretty important for Dioscuri to operate at maximum potential.
CEs: Critical damage, NP damage, Arts performance, Quick performance etc will all work well with the Dioscuri. They have the consistency to perform well, so they need extra power in order to back it up. Since they can easily generate NP, you can use CEs that just give raw effects, such as Formalcraft, instead of starting NP CEs.
Pros: -Incredible 1st skill -Decent NP damage with a good ceiling -Very flexible with supports -Great solo potential -Pierce invul and ignore def is an incredible combo
Cons: -Needs specific conditions to reach maximum potential -Without consistent card draw, 1st skill is much less impactful -Lacks good defensive options, since their Evasion will almost always be used for its offensive buffs
Overall, the Dioscuri are a powerhouse. Their ability to deal large amounts of damage quickly is notable thanks to their nutty generation in combination with their skills. They aren't perfect however, as they do lack solid defensive options and they maybe struggle outside of a solo setting to do everything perfectly, however, this shouldn't deter you from using them. They're a fantastic Servant and a fine choice for a DPS.

BASICS
Name: Hera Megalos Age: 40 (Unknown) Neighborhood: Ever After Job: Relationship counselor (in-home office) Story: Percy Jackson and The Olympians/Heroes of Olympus Character: Hera/Juno Faceclaim: Gal Gadot Status: Taken
PERSONALITY
+ intelligent, resourceful, thorough
- jealous, vengeful, temperamental
BIOGRAPHY
Along with her brothers and sisters (save one), Hera was really born when Zeus freed the lot of them from Kronos’ stomach.  In reality, that was the one time in her life she feels she was part of a group.  She’s always somehow felt set apart, which is sometimes good and sometimes bad.  While Greeks worshipped and feared her in equal measure as the Queen of the Immortals, as the Goddess of marriage, fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and essentially as a champion of women, that was a lonely role in a lot of ways.  Even later, vacillating between a Greek and Roman aspect, she only managed to find limitations - never allies.
Her marriage to Zeus was not without its issues, like any marriage.  The start was a little rocky, with her turning down his initial proposal and him tricking her into it, but you know – there were things that made it alright.  She understood his shortcomings, and mostly he understood her temper better than most could.  And there was the small matter of her seeking revenge in painful and creative ways on the women he fathered children with.  But really, her own children were sort of a disaster and she figured the only way Zeus’ children wouldn’t be is if he made them with a mortal.  She was determined to be his best, and last, wife, and so she persevered.  Their playful moments were worth it and the times when they worked together, ruled together as King and Queen were the best of times for her.
She didn’t intervene much in the second Titan war, but the war with Gaea and the Giants definitely required her to do so.  Zeus was being an idiot, and so not only did Hera need to intervene, but so did Juno.  Her Roman aspect became the patron of one of his children, one she came to hate less than the others because of his survival under harsh conditions and his ultimate prevalence as one of the Seven.
Fableton is more of the same stuff, different day.  Her first go-round in purely her Greek aspect caused more problems than it solved.  After a brief retreat, she’s back and trying to be more even-tempered.  She wants her marriage to flourish, she wants to keep an eye on these demigods, and she wants to figure out why they’re all here before it’s a problem to be stuck in this fishbowl.  And maybe she wants to have a little fun – so what if her definition of fun involves mind games and seeing just what she can get mortals or immortals alike to do her for her?  The immortals are all her family and she’s nothing if not the expert on what makes a perfect family.  She’s also very willing to prune the tree to keep it in shape if she needs to.
CONNECTIONS
Thalia Grace:  She didn’t love the girl to begin with.  Obviously.  Then the little brat had to go and join the Hunters of Artemis and eschew everything Hera held dear.  The only thing keeping Thalia alive is Hera’s attachment to her brother, the apple of both women’s eyes in some way, but even that may change.  Hera is watching.
Castor Tyndaridae: Possibly the only person who hates her husband’s slutting around more than she does, because it has caused much divide between he and his beloved, sniveling twin brother.  Hera has a soft spot for the boy and wants nothing more than to make sure he has a blessed marriage and a rich progeny.

Come on, man. I know Castor, okay? Better than anyone. He’s got more of a conscience than I do. I mean, the guy feels guilty searching the internet for porn.

Versus Retrogradi
“Retrograde verses” are elegiac couplets that still scan and make sense when you reverse the word order. They’re weird to write, but not quite as difficult as you’d think: you have to use a particular sequence of words in particular metrical shapes, pay extra close attention to the starts and ends of each words, and also write in short phrases that can be reversed (in practice, that means being very careful with prepositions and things like that, where word order can’t usually be reversed). So it’s an exercise in restricting your compositional options.
The pattern of word-shapes that I used (one of only a few such patterns) is from a Medieval poem called De Triumphis Ecclesiae by John of Garland (I’m doing an edition of  one of his poems--I don’t read obscure Medieval poetry just for the lols):
Parisius proba non pugnat gens, parcere clero      Provida, non curat perfidiam sua lex.
Don’t ask me what that means, but it does read ok backwards:
Lex sua perfidiam curat, non provida clero      Parcere, gens pugnat non proba Parisius.
So that was my pattern: choriamb (Parisius -uu-), phyrric (proba uu), monosyllable (non -), spondee (pugnat --), etc.
My first attempt was just me writing was I was doing (retrogrados would likely scan as two iambs, u-u-, in Classical Latin, but John of Garland scans it as a choriamb, -uu-, so that’s my excuse):
retrogrados lege nunc versus hos: dirigit ante      consilium et post dum progreditur mea mens
mens mea progreditur dum post et consilium ante      dirigit: hos versus nunc lege retrogrados
Now read these retrograde verses: my mind directs its counsels ahead and behind as it proceeds.
My mind proceeds as it directs its counsels behind and ahead: these retrograde verses now read.
Once I figured out it was indeed possible to write verses like this, I tried something on Janus, who felt like the right god for this two-faced verse form (mostly though it was that Ianiculum tibi stat popped into my head as the right sequence to open a couplet):
Ianiculum tibi stat, duplex; das numina Romae      bellica; respectans prospiciat mihi frons.
Frons mihi prospiciat respectans; bellica Romae      numina das, duplex; stat tibi Ianiculum.
The Janiculum stands for you, twofold god; you give Rome your warlike powers; may your backward-looking face look out for me.
May your backward-looking face look out for me; you give Rome your warlike powers, twofold god; the Janiculum stands for you.
(Janus is usually bifrons, not duplex, in poetry, but you can’t use an iamb like bifrons anywhere in these retrograde verses. Janus’ “warlike powers” are of course his temple in the Forum).
Then I started brainstorming other myths suitable for the retrograde treatment. There’s the twofold Hermaphroditus (son of Hermes/Mercury and Aphrodite/Venus, victim of the water-nymph Salmacis, who fell in love with him and merged with him to create an androgynous being):
Mercurio sate, tu discors, mas, femina: vites      flumina: non clemens Aphrodite satis est.
Est satis Aphrodite clemens? Non: flumina vites,      femina, mas, discors, tu sate Mercurio.
Son of Mercury, you discordant one, male, female: you should avoid rivers. Aphrodite is not sufficiently merciful.
Is Aphrodite sufficiently merciful? No. You should avoid rivers, female, male, discordant one, you son of Mercury.
And the twins Castor and Pollux, patron gods of sailors, who create Saint Elmo’s Fire during storms (both brothers often get called Tyndaridae, “sons of Tyndareus”, but since Castor was typically seen as the son of Tyndareus and Pollux as the son of Jupiter, I thought I could get away with calling the former Tyndarides in the first line, as distinct from Pollux in the second):
Tyndarides tibi sit, navis, fax, fulmina vincens;      fulmina Pollucis praeradiet tibi fax.
Fax tibi praeradiet Pollucis fulmina; vincens      fulmina fax, navis, sit tibi Tyndarides.
May the son of Tyndareus be a torch for you, ship, that overcomes the lightning; may the torch of Pollux outshine the lightning for you.
May the torch of Pollux outshine the lightning for you; may the son of Tyndareus be a torch for you, ship, that overcomes the lightning.
And finally Oedipus, brother to his sons, husband to his mother, father of a confused family. Once I got to the image of “wandering in my mother’s body” I figured it was time to call it a day:
Oedipodis genero, heu, fratres dum natus inerro      corpore matris: fit turbidior mea gens.
Gens mea turbidior fit: matris corpore inerro      natus dum fratres, heu, genero Oedipodis.
I father (alas!) brothers for Oedipus when I wander, a son, in my mother’s body: my race is becoming muddier.
My race is becoming muddier: I wander, a son, in my mother’s body when I father (alas!) brothers for Oedipus.

What do you know, Gemini is even connected to the Iliad. Especially appropriate as Ouma has the hallmarks of ‘Trojan horse’.
But what’s even more curious is the tidbit on immortality.
Monokuma suggests he is a ‘god’, there’s a statue of him before the elevator, and there’s an angel and demon statue upstairs in the academy, associated with chapels. Ouma even comments in his FTE that his brother is dead, while the message in the courtyard is said to be a ‘message from the dead’.
Eerie.

Castor[a] and Pollux[b] (or in Greek, Polydeuces[c]) were half-twin brothers in Greek and Roman mythology, known together as the Dioscuri.[d]
Their mother was Leda, but they had different fathers; Castor was the mortal son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, while Pollux was the divine son of Zeus, who seduced Leda in the guise of a swan. Though accounts of their birth are varied, they are sometimes said to have been born from an egg, along with their twin sisters Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra.
In Latin the twins are also known as the Gemini[e] (literally “twins”) or Castores,[f] as well as the Tyndaridae[g] or Tyndarids.[h] When Castor was killed, Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together, and they were transformed into the constellation Gemini. The pair were regarded as the patrons of sailors, to whom they appeared as St. Elmo’s fire. They were also associated with horsemanship, due to the idea that they rode the ‘white horses’ of foam that were formed by curling ocean waves.
