Another Mass Effect Headcannon:

You know how when Shepard used the beacon on Eden Prime at the beginning, the beacon almost killed them?

Do you remember how both Dr. Chakwas AMD Javik commented on how it's changed them?

I imagine that there was some kind of repercussions to their health. Like if they touch smaller artifacts and other beacons or anything Prothean related, including when Javik had been "reading" them or Leviathan, it leaves behind some kind of side effects.

Like, depending on what it is, it can go from migraines to full on seizures?? Maybe experience the memories of the Protheans who interacted with the artifacts last in the form of nightmares? Maybe they get nose bleeds and brain lesions and aneryuisms?

Think about it. They're always dizzy or nauseous or have headaches whenever whatever they're interacting with is strong. I don't know if it was overlooked or just never thought of, but I feel like it's something to think about. To me, at least. The stress of the war and the pain over those who are lost during it along with all the mental health issues Shepard already has just adds onto it.

I hadn't seen anyone else mention it in fanfics or here. Maybe I had and just forgot or maybe haven't seen it yet. But I always imagined that, if Shepard survives the war, they HAVE to retire due to the brain dage they received from using Prothean beacons and Leviathan on top of whatever injuries they had sustained during the last battle against the Reapers.

Mass Effect Character Sexualities because I want to project

(Partly headcanon, bi-ased, personal opinion)

Ashley: straight, formerly homophobic until she realized that most of her Normandy crew mates were gay

Garrus: bi energy, its simply unfair to our gay guys for such an amazing and hot character to not go both ways. Ive also seen too much Garrus/Thane/Shepard fanart to see him any other way

Liara: obviously bi, I hc that she was confused when she first encountered homophobia because it simply doesn’t exist in asari culture (closest thing is the asarixasari stigma)

Wrex: for some reason I see him as bi? I have no idea where I got this but I want to see a tough, old warrior casually mentioning being into both men and women and not caring at all about it (even though I think krogan culture probably wouldn’t approve)

Tali: for my sake as a helpless bi simp, I see her as under the umbrella, but doesn’t realize it. Like me before I came out, Tali would say “yeah she’s really pretty and I want to hang out with her and hug her and stare at her but I’m not gay or anything.” You are. You are gay. I think it would be in character for her to completely miss the fact that she’s into girls as well as men

Joker: straight. The kind of straight to make jokes about his friends’ sexualities, but not mean anything by it. He goes to pride every June with his wife EDI (who I will get to)

Jacob: I honestly can’t believe that he was originally intended to be bi, I just can’t see him into men unless I squint. It’s hilarious that they tried to make his male romance more like Brokeback Mountain so it’d be accepted

Miranda: I’ve seen a headcanon on Pinterest about Miranda having internalized homophobia because it doesn’t line up with her view of genetic perfection, something she’s established to be insecure about. I think it would make perfect sense for her character. I think it’s easy to see her as a lesbian practicing het-comp, especially with how awkward her initial flirting with Shepard is, but there are more scenes in her romance that feel authentic than there are that feel performative, so I’m inclined to say she is bi/pan/omni/etc.

Mordin: I’m pretty sure his asexuality is canon. I also think that he’s aromantic as well, but can objectively assess beauty/attractiveness well. For example, his film noir short story in the Citadel DLC involves a hookup with Aria. I personally believe that is him saying “yeah, she’s attractive, and if I were into women, I’d smash”

Zaeed: he gives off straight uncle who would punch a homophobe for you but otherwise doesn’t know how to interact with you after you’ve come out and tries a little too hard to acknowledge your sexuality but it’s definitely well-meaning (think the “anyone could be they!” scene from Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Grunt: straight and supports his bi parents (Shepard and Garrus/Thane/Tali/Liara), wears rainbows at Pride for them, and regularly headbutts homophobes

Jack: I’m forever salty about them erasing her pansexuality. Also she and Miranda should’ve kissed

Kasumi: also gives off pan energy. She definitely feels like the type to not care about gender at all- as long as they’ve got muscles, that’s all that matters to her

Thane: pan energy

Samara: as established, Samara is bisexual

Legion: ace, non-binary (goes with people using he/him based on its masculine voice, pronouns are they/it)

Kelly: she said so herself, she doesn’t care about race/species or gender, all that matters is the person 💖💛💙

EDI: something about Sentient AI Who People Initially Don’t Trust Until She Gets A Humanoid Body That People Can Better Associate With Her reads to me as a trans allegory. Obviously, she’s not trans, but the vibes are there. Many times, people are suspicious of trans women until they transition and pass more as cis, which is similar to EDI’s story. She learns more about herself after her body changes, and others start to appreciate her more and have an easier time referring to her with she/her pronouns. As for her sexuality, she doesn’t seem to lean any particular way to me. She doesn’t seem like the type who’d use labels, even though it would make sense for her to “categorize” herself. I’d say she’s unlabelled- definitely into men, with her relationship with Joker

James: as much as I wish we could get gay gym bro representation, James is great as he is, being a masculine straight guy who’s best friends are openly gay (Cortez) and bi (Shepard)

Traynor: lesbian (canon), definitely into women who can crush her head under their heel but also has a dominant side herself

Cortez: gay (canon)

Diana: that annoying and popular bi girl you secretly had a crush on but didn’t want to because she was intimidating and popular

Me reminding myself this is my blog and I can say whatever anyways bc I opened c2077 and my brain is hot wired to mass effect rn . Who wants to hear some loose ideas . You do I am making this choice for you .. under the cut bc long post thumbsup

Wrex is a fixer 1000% . Specifically a fixer out in the badlands working with the nomads bc the Urdnots are a nomad clan so he Has that connection + he’ s just setting up shop outside night city to make life a bit easier . He ends up adopting Grunt at some point when he’ s like . 5ish . Grunt still chooses the name Grunt when he hits like 18 and jumps into organized fighting . Wrex sponsors him in these fights . Bakara is Grunt’ s mother figure and runs the little Fixer Business in tandem with Wrex . She also keeps constant check on the Urdnot clan’ s status and such . She also organizes drag races . Grunt cannot compete in these he crashes any car he drives to pieces . She’ s busy half the day , either doing work on her own car , taking time for prayer , or she’ s just gone into night city for some Reason

Ashley is a rocker who took up the mantle after loosing her grandfather and father in corporate wars . She did join militech for a few years but was discharged later from disorder + she was going down the same path as her granddad + dad and she realized she really didn’ t deserve that fate . She still has her old military upgrades and constantly keeps them checked so they don’ t malfunction badly since they are Old models . She likes them and she knows removal would just be harder than the upkeep at that point . She lives in North Oak . I like to think she does both heavier rock and acoustic , depending on her mood

Kasumi is like . One of The Best people to get on your team for a job . Equipped with top of the line cybernetics , some of them definitely stolen from secure government data , she can easily make any job an infiltration job and can keep casualties to the Minimum . Yes she has the behavioural faceplate and yes she does use it to screw with her friends and contacts often it is good for her. She prefers to stay off grid , but has her own little network she jacks into at the end of the day for her own little joys . She probably lives in Dog Town , to keep herself separate from the rest of night city . She’ s a collector of rare technology too , and will do Anything to get her hands on it . If it’ s still in working condition ? She’ s taking it nothing can stop her

Thane and Samara r also fixers , Thane in Heywood and Samara in Westbrook .. I like to think they share gigs with each other often . They are also often on the look out for newer people to night city to try and see if they Need help or if they Can help and try to set them up from there .. Kolyat runs with a gang in Heywood and Thane keeps up with making sure he stays safe + making sure he keeps up with prayer and whatnot . Morinth is another rocker and braindance actor who tries to make her bds as dangerous as possible . Samara doesn’ t approve of the BDs part of her livelihood but will try to set her up with jobs to keep her busy and keep her out of trouble Samara doesn’ t quite approve of ..

Jack does gigs only related to cyberpsychosis . She’ s a survivor herself and she knows better than anyone how to handle someone during an episode . She crashes around night city and doesn’ t really stay in one place for long . She’ s always checking police scanners to see if another incident has been reported Or if they’ re on her ass again . She has a Doberman she rescued that accompanies her around night city , he’ s very good at protecting her bike from being hijacked . She does have a little side car for him to curl up in during rides

Joker and EDI are a “ team “ of fixers . Technically . They both operate under the name Joker and never show their face during any form of communication . EDI is an AI that hasn’ t been claimed by the Blackwall and Joker is in the process of building her a body that can pass as human just with a Lot of cybernetics . They’ re both netrunners and are terrifying at what they do . Joker is ex corporate and survived a zeroing attempt so he is very . Well . He isn’ t the nicest guy ever .. EDI was a project he managed to save before having to go into hiding for a bit . Joker’ s skills let him have near perfect control of vehicles while EDI is better with security measures . People keep trying to guess which voice of the two of them is real and which one is a cover up voice . Since it’ s not like they want people to figure out what is actually going on

I honestly hope they have a Krogan romance option in the next Mass Effect 😫

I think there are a few ways they can do this.

1) Romance does not equal sex! Have the flirting and dating but no sex.

2) Make them a smaller krogan. This can be from plain ol' genetics or maybe some sort of experiment.

3) Have a Mordin like character give us the needed advice to be safe.

4) Make the playable character bigger. Again, this could be from genetics or experimentation.

Mordin's death still hurts. It's been eighty four years since I played ME3, and yet it still hurts. You know it's coming, because no war is without sacrifices, and not all your friends will survive this war despite how hard you try, because not even the great Commander Shepard can stop death. To keep Mordin alive you have to screw over the Krogan by not opening your mouth and convince Mordin not to do the cure. That's all you have to do. But I can't do that. Because as painful as it is to have Mordin die - for him to never go retire on a beach and run tests on seashells and not hold little Urdnot Mordin in his arms, this little future he has given to the Krogan - it's ten times painful to betray Wrex. Keeping my Shepard silent as Wrex and Bakara are hoping and envisioning a future right next to her? Painful. Knowing I would almost single-handedly make the Krogan go extinct? Painful. So while it's painful for me to watch Mordin go up the elevator, to see him take that deep inhale that says he knows his time is up, to hear him humming happily even as the place explodes around him- The pay-off of the Krogan having a future, of having hope, of having a chance to being better and restoring their honour as warriors that they lost decades ago by their own hands will always be worth it to me, and to my Shepard.

I have a little beef with the Trilogy, continuity wise.

Vido Santiago. The asshole who is the head of the Blue Suns gang as a whole and co-founder with Zaeed.

For Zaeed's loyalty mission, you can either go directly after Vido or save the refinery workers. I know Bioware wanted to force players to choose one and sacrifice the other to play on the morality scale that all of us stuck with for our playthroughs. I always hated that if you help the refinery workers, you don't get a chance to help Zaeed get Vido after he escapes Zorya.

Well... it's more like I hated how he's never spoken of ever again once we hit ME3. Especially if the bastard is still alive.

In ME3, we're introduced to Darner Visque who apparently is in charge of the Blue Suns now?? What happened with Vido if he's still alive? Was this an issue that had been overlooked bc Zaeed is a DLC character?

I'm not saying that they have to give us a whole cutscene with Vido dying, but at least give the guy a proper write off to tie up that loose end. You could've had Shepard ask Visque about Vido and he could've said that he killed him to take over. Or Zaeed had reached out to Liara since he knows she's the Shadow Broker and got Vosque's location from her and that's how he finally killed the little shit. Shepard could discover that Vido was killed by Cerberus on Omega after they took it over. Aria could've admitted to killing him or her sources told her that he got done in by the Reapers.

Idk. Maybe I'm just complaining. That or I just wanted to know that Zaeed finally got to put a bullet in him.

Good thing I already wrote the scene with Zaeed killing Vido after he escaped the refinery. Nothing like fixing canon w fanfic to give fictional characters the catharsis they deserve.
