Dog-man, Cynocephali Saint, christened by baby Jesus after helping him cross a river.

The Dogheaded people

They were seen by conquerors, explorers, evangelists and described in detail. Alexander the Great, Marco Polo, St. Augustine, Christopher Columbus all described these creatures. You also have Anubis the Egyptian god and St.Christopher who was converted to Catholicism and achieved Saint-hood by helping believers cross a river.

There were letters corresponding with the Vatican on whether or not these dog headed men could be saved or not. The Catholic church was not surprised and simply asked if their eyes were on the front of their heads or on the sides. Apparently dog headed men were nothing new to cultures around the world.

'Ratramnus’s Epistola de Cynocephalis, is a letter written concerning if dog headed men could be saved. The response was yes based on the evidence that they showed the ability to have free will; they wore clothes, kept animals, had relationships, and obeyed laws etc. So they could choose salvation and therefore could be worth ministering to.

( Canaanites = canines, described as cannibals and great fighters who did detestable things.)

In Tibet there was recorded history of over 200,000 living in a village. They lived in Parts of India along the Mountain Range, there are traces of them in the Celtic lands they lived in Ireland.

St. Christopher is the patron saint for travelers. Dog-headed people often have acted as guides, ferries and Shepards. I will cover this in a future post, which will feature Xolotl and Aztec Gods, including Anubis!

Canines are interwoven into human history.

On these mountains there live men with the head of a dog, whose clothing is the skin of wild beasts. They speak no language, but bark like dogs, and in this manner make themselves understood by each other. Their teeth are larger than those of dogs, their nails like those of these animals, but longer and rounder. They inhabit the mountains as far as the river Indus. Their complexion is swarthy. They are extremely just, like the rest of the Indians with whom they associate.  They understand the Indian language but are unable to converse, only barking or making signs with their hands and fingers by way of reply, like the deaf and dumb. They are called by the Indians Calystrii, in Greek Cynocephali (“dog-headed “). [They live on raw meat.] They number about 120,000.  Near the sources of this river1 grows a purple flower, from which is obtained a purple dye, as good in quality as the Greek and of an even more brilliant hue. In the same district there is an animal about the size of a beetle, red as cinnabar, with very long feet, and a body as soft as that of a worm. It breeds on the trees which produce amber, eats their fruit and kills them, as the woodlouse destroys the vines in Greece. The Indians crush these insects and use them for dyeing their robes and tunics and anything else they wish. The Cynocephali living on the mountains do not practice any trade but live by hunting. When they have killed an animal they roast it in the sun. They also rear numbers of sheep, goats, and asses, drinking the milk of the sheep and whey made from it. They eat the fruit of the Siptakhora, whence amber is procured, since it is sweet. They also dry it and keep it in baskets, as the Greeks keep their dried grapes. They make rafts which they load with this fruit together with well-cleaned purple flowers and 260 talents of amber, with the same quantity of the purple dye, and 1000 additional talents of amber, which they send annually to the king of India. They exchange the rest for bread, flour, and cotton stuffs with the Indians, from whom they also buy swords for hunting wild beasts, bows, and arrows, being very skillful in drawing the bow and hurling the spear. They cannot be defeated in war, since they inhabit lofty and inaccessible mountains. Every five years the king sends them a present of 300,000 bows, as many spears, 120,000 shields, and 50,000 swords. They do not live in houses, but in caves. They set out for the chase with bows and spears, and as they are very swift of foot, they pursue and soon overtake their quarry. The women have a bath once a month; the men do not have a bath at all, but only wash their hands. They anoint themselves three times a month with oil made from milk and wipe themselves with skins. The clothes of men and women alike are not skins with the hair on, but skins tanned and very fine. The richest wear linen clothes, but they are few in number. They have no beds, but sleep on leaves or grass. He who possesses the greatest number of sheep is considered the richest, and so in regard to their other possessions. All, both men and women, have tails above their hips, like dogs, but longer and more hairy. They are just, and live longer than any other men, 170, sometimes 200 years (Ctesias, “Indica”, from Photius I).

A Pinch of Portugal Starring: Heather Hemmens and Luke Mitchell Premieres: Saturday, April 22 When a celebrity chef walks off his show, prep cook Anna (Hemmens) must step into the spotlight and make the show her own, with the help of her Aussie cameraman (Mitchell) and Portuguese location scout.

The sun was only just rising behind the Chilean mountains, a fresh wind came sweeping across the uneven site. Marco let his gaze wander. The morning was clear, almost peaceful with barely a sound disturbing the quiet. No cloud was in sight and thanks to that, the snow beneath Marcos’s skis was as hard as rock, giving him and his fellow teammates the best conditions for the training that was scheduled for today. Camp was already reaching it’s end again and the first race of the new season was getting closer and closer with each day. For the past weeks, excitement and fear had taken their turns in getting a grasp on Marcos’s sleep. He hadn’t told any of the other athletes or coaches about it, the only one that knew was Gabriel. Marco had figured telling him would cause the least amount of drama. And it had felt good to hear encouraging words from someone who knew Marco so well like Gabriel did but still had a more neutral view on things than for example Renzo or Hannes did. According to Gabriel, Marco had nothing to be worried about, at least not for now. But somehow, Marco felt as if a storm was brewing up inside of him, one of the bad kinds that tore down walls and every stability possible and left nothing behind than broken pieces and his life in ruins.

“You’ll get wrinkles from frowning so much.” Gino’s voice pulled Marco back to the surface and into reality again. He was standing to his right, leaning on his ski poles with the racing suit still hanging low on his hip.

“I wasn’t frowning”, Marco replied and Gino made a disapproving sound before following him down the first acclivity to where Renzo had set up the starting gate. Since the Swiss team wasn’t the only one taking benefits from the good conditions in South America, a line had already formed behind the gate and it was still early enough into the season that the good mood wasn’t affected by it. No one was eager to be living in competitive spirit already again, they would get plenty of time to do so later this year.

“Took you long enough”, Justin said when he recognised Marco and Gino. They queued behind him and Marco resisted the urge to throw a nasty word at him and instead showed him the middle finger. Not very impressive considering he was wearing thick gloves but it was the thought that mattered.

“Why’s the line moving so slowly anyways?”, Gino asked after he had zipped up his suit. Marco craned his neck and caught a glimpse of what he assumed was a very good reason for the delay. Elmo, the Australian Shepard that belonged to one of the American athletes, had made himself comfortable in the middle of the slope, in a spot where the sun could warm his fur and every athlete had to pass by to get to the gate, increasing the number of strokes possible by a hundred percent. No one could resist Elmo’s charm, he had been the star of the camp ever since the Americans had arrived and it seemed as if he wasn’t willing to give up neither that position, nor the one he had claimed on the slope. The only person not smitten by the dog was Renzo. He urged them all to a hurry. “Come on guys, we don’t have all day!”

“You’re just jealous no one is telling you what a good guy you are!”, one of the Norwegians (Marco believed it was Lucas) shouted from the back of the line, earning a handful of laughers and an annoyed huff from Renzo.

Once Marco reached Elmo, he crouched down and petted him behind the ears while also looking directly at Gino.

“You know”, he started and got up again. “Once we both are sick of skiing and retire, we could get a dog too?”

Gino exhaled in surprise. He pulled up his goggles, eyes bright in excitement. “Say that again!”

Marco just smirked and left without saying anything. Renzo started the interval and a second later, Marcos’s mind had gotten completely blank from everything apart what was lying directly in front of him and that was the eager to win not only this session but the season, along with a happy future with Gino by his side.

Saturday Morning Coffee

My first cup of coffee is poured and cooling a bit, our old kitty — Khloe — is in my lap, and I’m sat in my writing spot at the end of the couch nearest the front window. It’s cloudy and raining and the wind is blowing. I’m not sure if it’s remnants of Ian yet or just a regular storm. Guess we’ll find out. 🌧️

CNN: “Ian slammed into southwest Florida as a severe Category 4 hurricane Wednesday, packing sustained winds of 150 mph. Officials believe the death toll of at least 45 people is likely to climb in the coming days as searchers access areas that had been blocked by debris and floodwaters.”

What a tragic week for Floridians. So many folks displaced and damage beyond belief. Homes and businesses wiped completely off the map, land reclaimed by sand. And the there is the human toll. 😢

TechCrunch: “Now, a Spanish startup called Penpot — which is taking a new approach to design collaboration through an open source platform that brings designers and developers into the mix simultaneously — says that it’s been seeing a huge amount of adoption since the Figma deal.”

I happens across Penpot a month or so before the Adobe purchase of Figma. It’s really nice and if you’re looking for a Figma alternative you might want to give it a look.

Bleacher Report: “Odell Beckham Jr. questioned why all NFL stadiums don’t feature grass fields after former New York Giants teammate Sterling Shepard suffered a non-contact knee injury on the MetLife Stadium turf on Monday night.”

This is not the first time turf has become controversial. I remember back in the 70’s or 80’s this being a topic of conversation. That was before this new wave of turf became a thing.

I’ve always been a fan of grass fields. Bring them back to every stadium you possibly can. I want to see some filthy uniforms.

I am so here for this. Seeing tools used in ways you never expected is always such a joy for the developer.

I really wish Republican leaders weren’t so power hungry and had the guts to all come out against TFG.

Here’s hoping one of the many troubles TFG has leads to conviction and elimination from running for public office. 🤞🏼

If you’re surprised by this, don’t be. Instagram cut off developers long ago. At one time there were plenty of great Instagram clients, even for iPad!

It’s a closed platform. The best we can hope for is alternate services — like Glass — to catch on and take a big share of Instagrams user base.

Of course the United States, Britain, and Ukraine aren’t the only countries in complete disarray. Iran is having another revolution. Women are coming out in force to demand equal rights and an end to its totalitarian regime.

I loved the white out uniforms worn by the Bengals Thursday night. Being a Bears fan I’m really looking forward to seeing the new orange helmets the Bears will be wearing on special occasions this year.

I kind of wish they’d go orange helmets with their navy blue color rush uniform but they’re not going that direction

I wish I could turn this little project into my full time gig. Heck, I’d be super happy with a few hundred bucks a month! 🤣

Getting this version out the door has allowed me to get back to the Max version. It’s slow going since this is my first real Mac app but I do hope to ship it at some point. 😄
