This one, incredibly specific piece of foreshadowing in The Secret Saturdays (Spoilers for Season 2)
The pictures below are V.V. Argost's associates as listed in the criminal database (accessible by the Saturday family)

Notice someone. How about here (two pictures below) a.k.a. Van Rook's clientele list

Master Gokul, is that really you; what a surprise see you on two lists in Season 1, episode 7 (Van Rook's Apprentice).
I wasn't expecting to see you on my rewatch until you tried to off a kid in Season 2, episode 5 (The Legion of Garuda)

Knowing this guy might be on Argost's payroll puts this scene in a whole other perspective.

Man, I still need to finish the Secret Saturdays, but wowie - Argost has got to be my favorite. He's such a wretched creature and, having spoken to my girlfriend, I tried playing around with his unmasked face, based it off the japanese macaque with some slight inspiration from snow leopards

Really getting back into this AU but I'm still trying to get used to writing Argost's dialogue so I thought I'd experiment with some designs for kid/adult Doyle in the mean time.
I haven't done any actual work on this AU for ages and abandoned a half finished fic for it years ago. The whole concept is found family but Doyle is Argost's apprentice pawn instead of Van Rook's after Argost snatched him off the mountain as a child. That's it that's the AU. TL;DR Argost is a manipulative piece of shit but we're kicking it up a notch.
Don't want to spoil too much yet as I'm trying to rewrite the fic 馃憖

For reasons I will share eventually, maybe...I have convinced my boyfriend to practice an Argost impression, and he has been at it for a few days. Unfortunately, he keeps saying, "It burns when I pee" in his newly found Argost voice.... What have I done..?

Hey you seem like kind of an expert on this show. Any idea why argost was getting people to disappear because they knew he used to be a self-made yeti? Like what was zak going to do with that info, taunt him?? Was it because he could have been controlled by kur powers????? I thought that only worked if the cryptid actually kind of wanted to do what zak says. Feel free to ignore this, (also loving the fic so far. You do good work)
Hello and thank you!!!! Viewer support is what keeps me going. So, Jay Stephens has confirmed on Toonzone that Argost's mask is made with "mystical properties" that prevented his identification as a cryptid. This is actually something we HAVE seen in the show -- the masks in Tica's village are made with a "special mud" that block ahuizotl's eye-stealing. It's unknown if Argost's mask could also block Kur's powers in general, but given that he never equipped Munya with one, I lean towards no. Either way, he wouldn't know for sure if it could, and I'm sure he'd rather not tempt fate. Since he didn't read as cryptid to Zak, Zak just never bothered to try.
More specifically for your question, we see in The Thousand Eyes of Ahuizotl and Life in the Underground that Zak's powers can still do 2 things without express permission from a cryptid: sense a cryptid's location anywhere on the planet, and read their minds. "I told you I was in your head" remains one of Zak's coolest moments in the whole show, and I'm sure the ahuizotl wasn't trying to let Zak know about its plan to sneak up behind him. Both of these would be Very Bad for Argost on their own, even without Zak being able to control him. Plus, do you want an 11-13yro boy rooting around in your brain? Didn't think so.
But that's also assuming Zak can't control him. Throughout all of Season 1 and especially in Season 2, Zak's powers are getting stronger. What was true at the halfway point of Season 1 - that Zak can't force a cryptid to do anything it doesn't want to - might not be true by the finale of Season 2. The novelization of S2E1-2, The Call of Kur (which you can read for free on Archive.org) confirms that his powers have been growing, along with making it a bit more clear that the powers definitely seem to WANT to kill all humans. When Zak says "it's like they know I know... like they really do want to let loose for Kur", the powers surge on the word "Kur" as if in response. During the fight with the nagas, it's also written in hard text that Zak's powers, when he tries to stop them, actually whips them up into a frenzy - something that's more like the Monday Kur's base state.
So... it's entirely possible that, by the end of Season 2, Zak actually can just override the will of a cryptid and force it to do something it doesn't want to do. Given that some cryptids who seem to remember Kur are absolutely fucking terrified of him, this seems to have some credence. Either way, if I were Argost, I'd hide the fact that I was a cryptid like my life depended on it.
