Quietly realizing that the recovery/future part of Heartless is no longer just about helping Heart recover.

It's about recovery for all of them. (self harm tw)

It's not just about reminding Heart is he loved and needed and wanted, its not just about helping Heart through the grief of loss, its not just about helping Heart learn to live his new normal anymore.

It's also about helping Perseverance relearn self-regulation. Its about assuring Perseverance that it is finally safe to stop and rest. It is about fixing Perseverance's sleeping habits.

It's also about helping Penitence find peace with himself. Its about helping Penitence learn to ignore the whispers of self-blame and the itching need to punish himself. Its about reminding Penitence that he is not truly Atlas.

And Heart plays a role in Perseverance and Penitence's healing! Just as Perseverance and Penitence play a role in Heart's healing! Even if he doesnt realize what he's doing. Heart begs Perseverance to sleep with him because Perseverance is nice and warm. Heart holds Penitence's hands and keeps them occupied and away from his own arms with little hobbies and games.

(Perseverance and Penitence cant pull each other out on their own. Shared trauma breeds shared responsibility and shared pain.)

The only way to leave the pit is to accept someone else's help.

Big Run Tips: Getting Bigger Scores

DISCLAIMER: These tips are based on my personal experience! I have hit Top 5% in both Big Runs thus far, and these are just the things that have helped me get higher egg counts! Results may vary based on map, weapon comp, etc!

THIS WILL BE LONG...But if you're lookin' for some direction on how to snag that silver or gold, this may be the post for you!

Tip #1: Get Familiar with EVERY Weapon Type

As it turns out, Big Runs are all random weapons! Which means there is absolutely an element of luck to getting the big scores. This means your best chances of performing better consistently is getting familiar with all classes of weapons at least to a general degree!

My weakest weapons are Splatlings, so when I was handed them, I struggled. However, doing a LOT of Salmon Run has helped me get used to them in stressful situations! Which leads me to the next tip...

Tip #2: Play more Salmon Run in general

If you're newer to Salmon Run, Big Run may be overwhelming for you! If your goal is to get those big scores, play Salmon Run more often! And if anything, play Solo more often!

"But my randoms are always trash!" Believe me, I understand this sentiment, but that's exactly why you should! Nothing teaches us better than hard games that force us to adapt. Be honest with yourself: Is YOUR performance always shining, or do you have bad games? Do not use your teammates as your excuse all the time! If your numbers are rough (High deaths, low eggs, low boss kills, etc) then it's okay to admit that! Get out there and practice your multitasking skills!

Which also leads me to the next tip...

Tip #3: EVP Is Basically A Requirement

(This applies to getting the Gold/High Silver Trophies)

The truth of the matter is, your best chance to get more eggs, is to have higher quotas! At Max Hazard, your quotas are 31 + 33 + 35, which is a bare minimum of 99 eggs just to pass! Most of the time you will get above the quota anyway so the higher your Rank, the more likely you can really stack those eggs!

If you're down in the lower ranks, this may be difficult for you! You're gonna want to not only get to EVP (Eggsecutive VP), but to also be able to handle the difficulty level that comes with the rank! It's VERY tough up there, but if you can make it there, and stay there, you will build the skills to be amazing at Salmon Run!

Join servers, look up video guides, and just get out there and practice!

Tip #4: If Possible, Squad Up With Friends

I understand this one may be hard for some folks, but luckily with the Pool feature, many people are opening up rooms to allow you to play with strong players! (NOTE: Please be sure you are close to their ranks too! Do not rely on them to 100% carry you unless you are absolutely confident you can carry yourself well despite being stuck in a lower rank!)

Salmon Run is a team game! You want better teammates, remember THEY also want better teammates! Be the teammate you want for your team too! HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SAY TEAM

Tip #5: Overluring Is A Thing, And It Can Be A Problem

You may be familiar with the term "Luring". It means bringing the bosses closer to the basket. DO NOT GET ME WRONG: Luring is a fantastic tip, and you should utilize it! However...

There is always too much of a good thing.

In my Big Run games, I had randos insistent on waiting by the basket and luring EVERYTHING. This wasted a good 20-25 seconds of our precious 100 second time limit to get about 30 eggs. It made finishing some waves difficult because we couldn't quite get the egg counts needed. I Promise It's Okay To Take Out A Couple Of Bosses At The Start

More WILL come to the basket as time goes! It's a good time to get a few eggs built up WHILE luring more to the basket. Do not get too obsessed with luring and waste precious time! Just make sure not to take out those bosses way too far away from the basket. Let them come to mid at the very least!

Tip #6: Living Is The Most Important Thing

The temptation to REALLY land those big egg counts is strong. After all, isn't that the entire point of Big Run?

HOWEVER: Do NOT get in over your head for those eggs!

As unfortunate as it is, sometimes you gotta let the big counts go in order to survive to the next round! Live all 3 waves, build your Rank up, and try to push the quota under better circumstances if you must!

Take some risks, but try not to be TOO risky! Sometimes you gotta spend more time taking out important bosses like Stingers and Flyfish rather than being greedy for eggs. Your team needs you focused and alive!

Tip #7: Teamwork, Teamwork, Teamwork

SALMON RUN IS A TEAM GAME!! Please do not run off on your own and ignore everything around you, rolling your eyes at how incompetent your teammates are when you aren't watching their backs!

You don't have to babysit them, but if you see a teammate struggling to take out a boss (maybe they have a bad weapon), take a few seconds to help them out!

Alternately, if one person is on a Fish Stick and they got it, don't go up there just to steal eggs! Trust that they got 'em and go handle something else! Be aware of your team.

If they got it covered, don't hover around them! If they need help, give 'em a hand! Everyone wins!

Tip #8: Do Not Underestimate Ink Management

Related to Tip #6 and #7, INK COVERAGE IS CRUCIAL! If you have a great inking weapon, take a second or two to give your team some turf to swim in! Grizzco Brella was FANTASTIC for this. It's okay to not constantly be attacking bosses every single second, as long as you are productive in those few seconds! Ink some turf, get your team set up, and then go do what you need to do!

This especially helps those who are stuck with Hydras, E-Liters, etc.

ALSO INK ALL CLIMBABLE WALLS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, PLEASE THESE COME IN HANDY -SO MUCH- WHEN THINGS GET CHAOTIC!! Ink those right at the start if you can, and as you pass by them in game!

Tip #9: Don't Let Losses Be The End Of The Team

So picture it: You're Solo-running, you've got a team of randos, they seem to have good heads on their shoulders! However, you get an unfortunate comp, maybe with Glowflies, and suddenly you all wipe. Everyone is tempted to leave after a loss, but HANG ON:

If your team is good, STICK IT OUT WITH 'EM! Bad luck happens, bad weapons happen, but it doesn't mean it was necessarily anyone's fault! Matchmaking is atrocious, and you NEED to help each other as much as possible!

Now if they leave you, sadly there is no tip for that LMAO;; BUT, stick it out if you vibe with the team! I stuck with teams where we lost a handful of times, but we'd snag wins later! I appreciate them so much for hanging out with me

Tip #10: Be Willing To Learn And Improve! (Also Take Breaks)

The folks who got those high egg quotas, the overfishers, the pros up at 200+ etc, they built those skills through a LOT of practice. And even if they make it seem so easy

IT IS NOT. NOT BY A LONG SHOT LMAO

The games are ridiculously difficult no matter how pro you are. Keeping a cool head, knowing what to do, etc can get you far, but it isn't an instant-win easy button. It takes hard work and a lot of focus to get those scores! Don't let envy blind you. YOU, yes you reading this right now, have the ability to get there!

If you aren't interested in getting the gold, that's fine! Set your sights for Bronze or Silver, and you can get there!! But if you want that gold, it may be a long road ahead

But if it's what you want, be willing to learn! Be willing to say "I'm not there yet, but I will be", and evaluate yourself in an honest and humble way on how you can do better!

Bad teammates are real: They are, you will get unlucky. But do not use that as your 100% excuse of "I can't do it". Focus on what you can do better! Focus on how you can HELP your team live longer! It's not always about just us and how everyone should be getting US that score.

Once again, be the teammate you wish you had.

AND TAKE BREAKS, oh my god it is so hard to stay focused when you are already stressed and tilted. Sincerely, take a 5-10 minute breather and get yourself focused again /dies

Anyway that's all the tips I have for now! If any other Big Runners want to add anything, please feel free! And as I said, these are not 100% exact guides on how to win, but I'm pretty dang sure they won't hurt to learn!

as the ultra extra ephitome of amateur artist i am i did study human teeth (thanks for leaving a dental record copy with me doctor, it was very useful) but i didn't study animal teeth 🤔, so whenever i wanted to draw human-sharp teeth i just pulled the forms out of my ass and it ended with the piranha-like form (stupid ass brain didn't even consider studying animal teeth)

thanks for the much needed advice! since you don't have a problem with using your art as reference (and my art isn't posted) i'll try to make a balance between studying and referencing. (does this phrase makes sense in english? i have no idea)

Sometimes the most obvious solution is the one we always forget to consider. It's very easy to get into the mindset that you should know or do know what something looks like...and then we are surprised when it actually looks completely different to what we thought! I have done this many times 😅

But nowadays, animals are the first thing I look at when trying to come up with designs for inhuman qualities. I usually start designing a character by building a mini moodboard/a photo album of reference images for the character, and almost always, an animal is a key focial point (often this is the case even for characters that don't have inhuman features too!) I know this is common for a lot of artists, and for good reason. It just works!

With Aloysha being a werewolf, it was an obvious choice to study wolves when trying to decide how she looks, particularly in her beast form. But jackals have also started to inform my design choices for her, and so have striped hyenas. Animals are a never-ending source of inspiration for character design and a valuable resource to learn stylised or exaggerated anatomy from!

You are very welcome for the advice, though! ✨️ I love to help people when I can and I'm always glad to answer questions or pass on the knowledge that has helped me. If even one thing I say is of use, then I consider that a success! 🫡

That theres people going about their lives unmasked like its 2019 is unfathomable. Please wear a good mask like a kn95 or n95 or better respirator, because when you dont you're sending the message that you do not care about disabled or immunocompromised people. as a huge batjokes shipper i want batman and joker to hate each other in the sense they dont really hate each other, they just have really different goals and see their own version of potential in the other and right now hate is the best word for their situationship. they both love the other for what they could be but neither of them wants to be what the other one wants, and that's equally as frustrating as it is necessary for them to keep existing in their current roles. they're deadlocked and that fate surrounding each other is kind of the point -- we both have to be like this, the opposite of what the other wants, for us to keep existing at all, and for giving me that gift i both love and hate you. it's an agreement. i think the hate that's there now is born from an intense underlying love.

i think batman "hates" joker for being so amazing and smart and cunning, for being able to create grand gestures and schemes, to pull people together under his charisma and make them all believe in something, for being as extraordinary as he is but batman hates that he uses it to hurt people. he hates that joker can't channel his energy into doing something good for the world, that he hurts himself and others just because he wants to be batman's greatest enemy. i think batman wants to help joker but also hates him at this point for joker exhausting him, constantly getting hurt both emotionally and physically by him, joker never trying to improve his situation, throwing away other people's lives, showing batman he loves him by lashing out and hurting him. batman hates joker because he loves his rogues, he wants to help them, and he knows they can do better. he wants to live in a gotham that doesn't need batman but he still needs to be needed, because when there's no batman, what is bruce going to be? without joker, he will continue being batman, but it's an empty crusade. some of my favorite interactions between harvey and bruce are the ones where harvey thanks bruce for "always being there for me, never giving up on me, my very best friend." even with someone like harvey, bruce can still hold onto that hope for his rogues, never give up on them, keep going for them, even if it puts them through the cycle one more time.

i think joker hates batman in the most toxic way possible, but it's still love. i just think he's selfish and doesn't want batman to think about anyone else but him, the same way he operates for batman, but if he must think about other people then joker will make it as amazing as possible! i think he hates batman for wasting his time on ordinary people, people who are so boring that batman claims he has to protect and serve and love them but joker thinks it's all surface-level. batman won't kill joker but he'll leave room for people dying in his crusade. it's a choice he allows, and even if joker knows that's a morally fucked up way to put someone in a box, he doesn't care. batman is the type of person to train himself mentally and physically for decades and dress up in a half-silly-half-menacing costume so that everyone can have an idea about him. batman himself is not normal, and joker knows that and loves that! why is he wasting his time trying to save people that use him, abuse him, don't want him to be the best he can be? i think joker's motivations for loving batman and lashing out as if he hates him lie somewhere in between extreme admiration -- like i truly believe in your cause and that you're the right person to do it, but i'm so angry at you for wasting your time on other people and i'm so hurt and jealous that you choose them over me, just so you can be a hypocrite and let them die if i want them to anyways -- and anger at his hypocrisy -- like it's easy for joker to dedicate himself to chaos and just being in batman's life by putting batman in situations that force him to be a better and better hero, but how can batman sit there and choose and pick what morals he'll uphold and who gets to live and who gets to die?

i want to be your greatest enemy because you are the greatest hero ever, and the only way you and i can keep being the best at what we do is if we do it together, because of what we both believe in.

i keep thinking about it and i really think the way Junebug finds out Guz likes them (because I'm an overthinking goober) is a drunk confession from him 😭

he probably gets really wasted one evening celebrating some sort of win for team skull and I'm sitting in another room where it's quiet and I'm doing something like reading or drawing, and he comes stumbling in because he misses me even though it's only been like less than an hour since he last saw me, and WAIT this is turning into an actual writing thing okay um uh - (1k words on the dot comin atcha)

Junebug looks up from their berry studies, grinning when they see what a mess Guzma is. "How're you doing there? You look a little rough around the edges," they tease, setting their book aside.

The man's face twists into a sloppy grin and he chuckles. "Nah, nah, nah, m'fine, m'fine. Jus' missed you, wanted to see ya...." He makes his (slightly stumbling) way over to the desk Juno's sitting at, before slumping down to the floor and leaning back against one of the trainer's legs. "Missed ya soooo much, missed seein' your face."

The face in question is now bright red, and Juno twists their head around to shield it from Guzma's gaze. "Sorry if I left too early, I just-"

"Nah, nah, not'n issue. Jus' like seein' your face. Havin' ya around." He leans back and sighs happily. "Makes me feel warm inside."

Face aflame, Juno sits for a moment, lost for words. "Oh, uh, I'm... glad I can... do that for you." He's not implying anything extra. You're just friends. This isn't anything other than a good friendship. Juno repeats this over and over in their head as Guzma settles even more heavily against them, leaning his whole weight against their leg now. Juno pulls themself together, the weight grounding them. "Guz, you're gonna knock us both over if you keep leaning on me like this. Here, let's adjust if you're going to hang out for a bit, okay? If you want to talk that's fine, but otherwise I'm just going to keep working on my studies here."

Guzma groans as he sits up, and Juno moves onto the floor over to the wall behind the desk.

Patting the floor beside them, they say, "Come over here, okay? Just don't crush the leaves in this bag; I'm sketching them out right now."

With another groan, he shuffles himself over to sit against the wall, before grabbing the bag Juno had held up from their lap. "S'bunch'a leaves?" he slurs out.

"Berry plant leaves," clarifies Juno. "I'm drawing them for some notes I have." They point to one of them, brushing against Guzma's hand as they do so, and say, "These one's are from the Oran plant; I brought them from home to compare with any I find here."

With a smile, Guzma grasps Juno's hand with his, carefully setting the bag down so he can bring that hand to trace the outlines of their fingers. Juno feels their face grow hot again, and they look away to the right. "Your hands are so small..." he muses, sounding almost awed.

Juno stays quiet, but turns their head back to look over at him again.

"I like your hands," he says decidedly. "Like 'em a lot." He looks up at them suddenly, a shy grin stretched across his face. "I like you a lot, too, the whole you. Every piece of ya. Nothin' I don't like." He raises a hand to place against their face. "Y'so pretty... 'n' small... like one'a my bugs..."

They can't help but laugh at that, and he laughs too, feeling them shake with mirth under his hand. "Your bugs are pretty?" Juno asks with a disbelieving smile.

"Not prettier than you. You're the prettiest bug around."

Juno laughs again, shaking their head and pulling away from him. "Guz, you're so drunk right now."

Guzma shakes his head, placing a firm but gentle hand on their face to turn it back to his. "Nahhh, I'm - ... well yeah, I'm pretty fuckin' wasted right now, I know that, I know." He laughs before continuing, "But I also know I like ya a lot an' I'm happy I'm finally tellin' ya. You really are the prettiest goddamn bug I ever saw, a little Junebug, and I'm so fuckin' glad I caught ya out in the forest that day or else the best goddamn thing in my life woulda passed me right on by!" He stares at their eyes earnestly, trying to convey just how real this all is for him.

As he talks, Juno's face softens, their eyebrows creasing up. "I'm glad I'm here, yeah," they say, pausing. They look down, opening their mouth to say more, glancing back up at Guzma's face, and then look back down as they shut their mouth again.

"Junebuuug," he says pleadingly. "You're holdin' out on me here, what're y'thinkin'?"

They shake their head, biting at their lip nervously.

He sighs. "Aight, aight, m'not gonna push ya. Lemme just sit here for a bit an' then I'll get outta your hair." He lets go of their face and leans back against the wall with another sigh. "Meant what I said though."

After a couple minutes of silence, interspersed by pencil scratches against paper, Juno finally asks quietly, "Which part?"

Guzma rolls his head around to look at them. "Huh?"

"Which part did you mean?"

He scratches the side of his nose. "Which part did I - oh, oh, wait, I gotcha. Am I really that drunk or did it just take ya forever for you to say anything?" He chuckles, slinging a hand over to shake their knee.

"Sorry, I was jus-"

"Don't worry about it, I'm just fuckin' with ya. You make it too easy!" He turns his body to face them properly and plants a heavy hand on their arm, still obviously drunk. "M'gonna say it again for you, really spell it out, aight?"

Juno bites at the inside of their cheek, looking up at him to meet his eyes, hands fidgeting.

He glances down to see that, and smiles, taking their hands in his. "I like you, Juno. An' I think you're a real goddamn catch. And I want you to stay here as long as you can, maybe forever, but I like ya and I like having you around." He pauses, searching for the right words in his alcohol-addled brain. "An' I'd give up a shit ton if it meant you'd be mine, y'know? I like ya a whole fuckin' lot."
