I’m back with another vintage inspired set, this time the Latte Satine Whirlpool bra and knicker from What Katie Did. I just loved the glossy warm caramel paired with the matte, creamy peach mesh. Latte is the perfect description for this piece and there’s something very comforting about the colours to me.

The bra is supportive, featuring both an underwire and a three-piece bullet cup with circle stitching. The straps are quite wide as well, just over 1.5cm. The satin fabric is lined with a fine non-stretch mesh inside that the fabric tag describes as a “sheer lace.” The band is made of a sturdier mesh with some stretch so this bra has more give than WKD’s other bullet bras. The hardware looks metallic, with a plastic coating to match. The square satin and mesh bow is a nice touch. It’s not too girly, matching the design very well.

Unlike the bra, the knickers are not lined as they do not require that extra shaping support but there is a cotton gusset panel. There is a little stretch from the mesh panels on the side but otherwise, this piece is not the most forgiving. There is also the matching satin and mesh bow.

My experience with WKD sizing is that it differs a lot from other brands. I’m usually a UK8/US4, which corresponds to a very slender 23″ waist in WKD’s size chart. In fact, the closest match for my measurements is WKD’s 12/8 (27″ waist; 37″ hips). Yet I own WKD pieces that run from 10/6 to 14/10! I also have worn everything from 34B to 32D in their bras. My strong recommendation is to try this set in person if possible.

If an in-person fitting is not possible, I would consider sizing a cup down in the bra and sticking with your regular US sizing for the knickers instead of relying on WKD’s chart. So I took a 34B bra instead of my usual 34C. There’s a wee bit of spillage at the top when my breasts are fuller due to my menstrual cycle but otherwise, it’s a very good and supportive fit with the projected silhouette one would expect from a bullet. For the bottoms, the closest size available in stock was a 12/U8 which is little baggy on me. It’s not egregious and I think it helps that there’s not much stretch in the piece, but I would have liked to have tried the 10/6.

The construction is what I would expect from a WKD bra. The stitching is neat and meticulous, no shortcuts taken. The bra in particular features so many different materials and pieces!

I bought this set from Gigi’s House of Frills although I’m afraid it’s mostly sold out now with a couple pieces on sale. I bought both items at retail price with the bra for CA$105 and the knickers for CA$69.
