My girlfriend doesn't really like speedrunning. And don't get me wrong, she's completely valid for it! Speedrunning culture sucks, and there are a hundred reasons to dislike it. I'm not particularly bitter or upset; we've both long known that we're not going to like everything the other likes, and we bond over the things we do instead.

HOWEVER. It is just a little bit sucks, if only for Wheatley in particular. You see, one of the more non-standard forms of personality core affection is to demonstrate competency in something; we are hard-coded to recognize competency and problem-solving skills as attractive, in order to... okay, I don't actually remember why, but still.

And speedrunning? And especially speedrunning Portal? Oh, man alive, I tell you! There's nothing quite like it!

The sheer mastery of movement, dissecting the test in the blink of an eye, not even needing to see to know what step to take next, oh, the brutal, beautiful efficiency of it all! The portal gun turning you into something flying if only for a moment, being fully assured of your position even as you siar through the air, landing for but a second jsut to take off again- oh, the thrill! It's competency and it's testing, how could a sphere resist?!

But, unfortunately, this does present a few problems. Namely in that she'll never recognize my attempts to improve as flirting, because she doesn't like speedrunning, so it comes out not even neutral, but negative!

I haven't really shared this with her, and I won't be, and I'm doing my best to remember to improve just for my own enjoyment. Still, though! I do wish that she could find my progress as attractive as I do.

hi again, 🔵🌌 here after finishing my portal 2 rewatch!

WOW i forgot how much of an ass i made myself out to be. became an absolute dick, almost laughably so. like, seriously, i laughed a few times during some of that monologueing.

also getting sucked into space isn't nice. never get sucked into space, it's bad up there. worse when your one friend is absolutely obsessed with space but gets scared once you guys are actually in space, and your other friend attempts to keep you from getting sent there in the first place.

on the topic of friends, i know i've already apologized to her but chell, i'm very sorry for trying to kill you. you were a really good friend and i really really REALLY shouldn't have treated you like that. kinda couldn't help it of course, you get plugged into that mainframe thing and boom, you're a test-making machine, but that's not entirely an excuse :(

this is also an apology for space core since the rewatch dug up some memories. i'm so so SO sorry for how i started treating you space core, and i'm sorry for scaring you like that. you weren't annoying, you were never defective, and i should've NEVER yelled at you. you were genuinely such a great friend, literally the best friend i could ever ask for.

also guess i should say sorry to glados, fact core and adventure core, and to all the turrets. ALL of them, even the defective and cube ones. sorry for almost blowing up the facility and killing us all.

so yeah uh 8/10 experience i will never be doing this again! /j
