Salamanders and Suitcases prompt challenge for Newt’s birthday event 2024: Day 1 - Far Off Countries!

Before I my caption properly little message. Please ignore the wonky writing. I don’t know why that didn’t come out straight, procreate went crazy when I copied and pasted a long piece of text from a word document app. I think it broke procreate, anyway it messed up big time. So please just ignore that and pretend it’s straight. If anyone knows how to fix that mess, then please let me know. All I wanted to do was add text to my picture. Honestly technology can be stupid some times, even if I do love it at other times.

Onto the picture then. Ok I initially started this years ago, maybe 2017? 2018? I can’t remember, think it was before I’d seen Crimes of Grindelwald anyway. I was inspired by some fan art I think it was MuggleNet who had posted them and I think I’d seen them there first; of an idea that what if Harry and Co had instagram? The illustrations were beautiful, and the captions were fun. So of course it was only natural that when I first saw Fantastic Beasts, I wanted to try one for Newt. But the thing with FB is that it doesn’t take place in school, so I couldn’t do a fun scene like the original illustrator who I’d been inspired by, I had to come up with something else; so I thought I’d do one with Newt and Frank instead. I don’t know why I thought of that, I was just stuck for ideas, and I just went with the first thing that came into my head. The instagram icons are the old version, because in the picture that I’d seen, they’d done the older version of instagram and I thought yeah why not? So there you have it.

Anyway it had been sitting in my drafts for years, I’d started it but got side tracked with other new projects and ideas so it just got buried and, I just couldn’t get back into it. But I decided I needed a kick in the backside to finish this, so I thought I’d enter it for this years Fantastic Beasts event that took place for Newt’s birthday instead. The event can be found on @salamandersandsuitcases profile.

For this prompt the word was Far Off Countries, so I thought it would actually be quite appropriate. Although essentially I had a different idea, but decided it was too difficult and would take too long to start from scratch, since I felt like I needed at least one piece of work up at least. And since I had this one half done, I thought it best to just go with it, besides I needed that kick up the backside to complete it, otherwise it could have been sitting there for another 100 years.

I hope you like it!! I’m actually quite pleased with it considering the colour palette got messed up because I selected comic strip, when selecting the canvas. Which apparently has a lighter colour palette than all the other ones. Well I didn’t know that till it was too late. Not to mention the wonky writing at the bottom. But I like it all the same. I've been reading the emesis blue screenplay whenever I have a bit of free time, and it's so interesting to see the small changes they've made to some scenes.

But also, the knowledge that Fritz was supposed to have visions of being mistreated in prison in that one scene when he has a panic attack at scout's house makes me go hhhhhh

#60 seconds till mission begins rambles #If you can afford it; go support Fortress Films on patreon if you want access to the screenplay too; it's just 2 dollars a month #Honestly the script does clear up a lot of things not because the movie is confusing but because I am bad at listening to dialogues and #having all conversations spelt out with descriptions of the smaller details that are happening in the scene is super helpful #like who is seeing what in the corner of their eyes or what is in the black suitcase at the end when we see it open or #that one scene when soldier is talking to the police officers over radio to find out about who stole the black hearse and where it's headed #I didn't realise the guy who goes “roll down the window; I can't see your face” is the same guy who does the muffled screams 2 seconds late #there's a surprising amount of smaller scenes that were omitted which would have changed the feeling of some scenes a lot #It's only implied in the movie but Fritz puts Scout into the coffin after he's killed; that's actually described in the screenplay but #Instead of having a solemn moment about it the screenplay has him HURL scout into the coffin and then proceed to FIGHT for his life alksjdh #Screenplay Fritz is a different flavour of Fight and Flight and he has some more nightmares; let the man REST for a second #Ok no more spoilers; go read it yourself >:)

I really love the way that fights/combat are written in the httyd books in general, but i have a big soft spot for when they turn comedic-- especially when hiccup is unarmed and decides that the only way forward is to start frantically throwing things at people.

Thinking about how in S2E2 Jamie didn’t know he was going to meet up with Ted but he still had the army man with him.

He originally went to London for that morning talk show interview. Presumably he was living in Manchester since he was with City before running away to do Lust Conquers All - and he would have had every intention of going back to Manchester afterwards if he thought Pep was taking him back on the team.

When he learns that he isn’t welcome back at Man City he starts to spiral and that’s when he seeks out Keeley. And Keeley is the one who tells him to talk to Ted. So from the information we have it doesn’t seem like Jamie would have traveled back to Manchester just to then travel another 4 hours back to London to talk to Ted.

All of that being said, I think it’s safe to say that Jamie did not go back home at all between the talk show and meeting Ted at the pub. Which means he was already carrying the army man with him when he traveled. Months after the relegation game he was still keeping it close to him because the gift, and the message/meaning that came with it, meant that much to him.

I not only had a sexy Zoro dream but it was an altogether strawhats dream too and we went on a vacation together.. it was so.much fun... zoro and I shared an Airbnb room and made beautiful love. and Franky carried me around by my hands like I was a kid and I directed him like I was a mech pilot and made him shoot imaginary missiles at Sanji. I made him shoot everyone actually except for luffy.
