and im DONE!!! i finished!!! it took. seventy thousand words but for the future is DONE!!! and nearly 15k longer than thanks to them lol. god knows how long watching and dreaming will be. wouldnt it be funny if its like. 10k words. imagine how much of a letdown that would be.

but thats for later! right now im DONE and free and its. wild. like. yall the thing about working on one project almost daily since june of 2022 is that it becomes literally your entire life. you start to just be like, yeah, owl house daemon au, ill always be writing that. but then you get closer and closer to the end. and its like. oh. oh no this isnt a forever thing. this thing has an ending. and i can see the ending. and im going to finish it.

WILD. IS WHAT IM SAYING.

this will be my last nano post! my nano project was ftf and i'm so happy to not write 1.6k words a day <3 it was fun for a month but not forever. i'll probably take a short break to write some fionna and cake daemon au stuff before i start to tackle watching and dreaming.

wild stuff, man. had a blast writing this.

my favorite part of what i wrote today:

Grr-click-growl wilts even more, and still pressed to the ground creeps closer to him, c’mere you and when did he start learning owl sounds? Why did he start learning own sounds? Why is there some part of him that wants to listen— “You wouldn’t come with me!” They jab a finger her direction and Grr-click-growl stops, eyes wide. “Nobody will! You just—fib, and say oh yeah we’re friends but I do everything ‘n you do nothing and I’m tired of it! Of you! Of King!” Rrr-grr-whistle— “Don’t call me that!” He could grab for stardust to blast at her but all the stardust is hers ‘n it burns to touch like home home home and no he can’t can’t ever gotta get out leave free this is a trap all just one big trap and why isn’t she running away why didn’t King run away. The trap was bright-gold. The trap was stardust. This is stardust too. Just another trap. He needs to tear it apart. The owl pauses. He can read the sorrow in her gaze and her big wide eyes, dark like space but nothing at all like space ‘cause the light is right-there and warm and not so far like his siblings. What if you stay, says some part of him. I get trapped, he reminds that part, ‘member?     But what if this time is different. He laughs. Even that wanting part of him laughs. ‘cause he knows nothing ever changes. Time and time again. Different shapes but all the same in the end. They just wanna trap ‘n use him. And he’s had enough of fibbers.

as promised, here’s a brief write-up of what arwel said during his keynote at the depaul pop culture conference! 

the pilot being remade like it was is extremely unusual for most television. also, he said that the design of the original 221B was supposed to be more victorian, with more references to previous adaptations. however, it became clear that what made sherlock excel really came out in the truly modern moments, so they updated 221b to have a more modern and lived-in feel

they switched out the wingback chair from the unaired pilot because it made over-the-shoulder shots basically impossible

he showed the coveted 221b floorplan but i don’t have the spatial brainpower to remake that lol

he also showed lots of bts pics and some raw footage of establishing shots filmed during series 3 which was sooo cool

there was a pre-production meeting specifically about what phone sherlock holmes would have. arwel said there was no way sherlock would have the newest iphone (derogatory), then moff made a face and pulled out...his brand new iphone.

multiple people questioned arwel’s choice of the iconic wallpaper! he said it was a win for him that it became so iconic :)

when making TAB’s 221b, they wanted it to be a victorian version of arwel’s 221b, not a rehash of previous victorian era 221bs. also, he pointed out how the kitchen became a study...painted scarlet ;)

john’s chair is actually janky as fuck, with broken springs and stuff, but martin freeman wont let anyone come near it to fix it!!!

fun easter eggs in molly’s flat - they decorated with some taxidermied animals to represent the presence of death in her life, but balanced that with some plants to symbolize life/growth, bc death isn’t her whole life

the production team actually got the same or less budget to work with for each subsequent season, and really had to stretch it to keep upping the quality!

he called sherrinford the “bond villain lair” lmfao

he’s about to start working on something new - another book adaptation, with a woman showrunner

the venue in TSOT actually has white walls, they painted them yellow for the episode

he mentioned people giving him too much credit for incidental easter eggs, ie kitty’s wall

he put a bunch of broken printers and shit in 221b because he thinks sherlock wouldnt bother throwing something broken away, just shove it aside and get another one

he talked about the elephant in the room thing, saying people misinterpreted him, but this time he said the elephant in the room came from an actor saying his work is so good that no one notices or something??? which was NOT his story before 

one of his fave moments from making sherlock was when he first brought mofftiss into the 221b set and they couldnt stop touching everything

he said he wanted 221b to feel like “a den, a safe place to go on adventures from”

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!!! he said that everything from set is in bbc or hartswood storage bc “you never know!” but then he made an oh fuck face and hurried to say that this was NOT a confirmation of series 5, bc if he said that, “I’d be shot!”

Nick tells Schanke, Repression is a serious thing, Schanke. Nick continues to dial. Schanke again tells Nick, Hang it up, hang it up. Schanke again tries to stop from dialing with no success. Schanke tells Nick, Give it to me. Nick reminds Schanke, No, it's almost as bad as denial. I don't want to see you in denial. I mean, it's unhealthy. Keep it up and in no time, you'll be on Dr. Noble's new couch, huh? Nick finally dials and the phone rings. Schanke says, I can't believe you're doing this. Marsh the host answers, Hello. Are you a man in uniform? Nick answers, Yeah, just hang on a second, okay? Nick hands his mobile phone to Schanke. Nick presses Schanke to go ahead and talk. Schanke says, Hello? Marsha the host says, Yes, you're on the air. Schanke continues, It happen when I was a rookie... As Schanke begins his story, Nick is overtaken by laughter and puts his head down.

Hello! Its the first day of March and I had just woken up to an email of a payment due reminder. I had just used my card to buy essential groceries, and now the bill's minimum payment is over 18 USD. This is not good since my mom can only give me money below 18 USD.

I have stated that I'm looking for a job that's comfortable- and this meant I needed a job within my city so I could cut down on rent and other bills, and take care of my family. Not working in retail was a bonus. Since my unemployment back in Oct. 2023, I have applied to three retail jobs and- literally over 40+ other types of jobs, but no luck (reasons being: I do not have enough experience, or have submitted the application too late, and in the case of the job I have been chasing for 4 years now, they decided to not go through with hiring new personnel).

I have one application left and I pray to any deity up there or down or sideways that this goes through. But it may take another week or two of wait, and with literally no money left I am incredibly helpless.

as for today! hmmm...

its truly so fun to write the collector. like im not joking about him being my favorite owl house character despite his maybe twenty total minutes of screentime, so its been such a JOY to expand his role in this series!!

bc like. god. actually i think i wrote a whole like. bit of flash fiction/prose poetry type thing for them a while ago. probably in my files somewhere. but just. youre an immortal eight year old. you are in these years where you need to interact with other people for your own mental stability and health. to figure out the whole Being A Person thing. and you are trapped for like, centuries. trapped away from everyone and everything and DUST, which, in universe, in literally connection personified. you're cut off from all of this.

and you are, let me say again, eight years old.

truly the collector is just. hes had everyone he ever cares about leave him--his siblings the other archivists left him behind not out of any sense of cruelty, really, but because caring about people just isnt really a thing they do. quite frankly they live so long they didnt even notice. theyre far-away stars. not far because they're mean. just because thats what stars do.

and then king's dad (who um. doesnt have a name <3 this is why the collector calls him 'the big bully' its literally bc i never gave him a name--) was an adult the collector actually trusted and looked up to (he meshed REALLY WELL into titan society until the archivists started Doing A Murder since titans are the only beings that match them in power and they have very very different ideas about dust). like ive said before the collector is owlbeastkin but before that they never had a super stable sense of identity--in another world where they stayed w/ the titans they wouldve ended up a titan.

and then king's dad just. trapped him in a tablet forever.

and like, to be fair to king's dad he was reacting out of fear and the best knowledge he had (he assumed the collector led the archivists to the titans, and like, he did, but its not like he knew he was doing that, and, you know, poor guy had seen a huge chuck of his fellow titans killed including babies and eggs of which he had an egg to consider), but it still TRAPPED THEM. and then he died and so did all the rest of the titans so nobody could free the collector even if they wanted to.

and then BELOS, who manipulated and lied to the collector for so long and was also literally his only friend after being alone forever, so like, of course the collector just blindly went along with whatever he said. he was gonna free them!! he listened to them when they talked about stardust which nobody else ever did! he had no idea what the fuck a witch was! he just liked being able to see the stardust sometimes, and belos brought him to places with a lot of stardust. to destroy it, but like--you know. it was THERE.

but all these people were just USING them, and they never really understand that until king comes around. and king's also a scared eight year old!! but like. king's also not wrong. the collector did aid belos in destroying the entire isles. like no joke belos SUCCEEDS here. like not long-term obvi this has a happy ending but at the point we're in at for the future? it doesnt matter that the draining spell failed. all the palistrom trees are dead. witch society Cannot come back from that even if they did end up beating the collector. theyre doomed.

anyways what was i saying. collector. right.

so like, then they meet firefly/grr-click-growl/wings-across-night/the owl beast (king of having so many names i love her <3) and shes like, the first person who cares for them and ISNT using them. even king is using them!! but firefly has seen Some Shit. she sees the collector as a hatchling who was kicked out of his nest and is doing her best to be some sort of stable figure for him, but she doesnt Not see the stuff he's done.

the collector took over the world bc he's scared--all he's ever known is being used and trapped so he doesnt exactly trust most people easily. firefly would Love to not be in this world anymore. shes also got a loyalty to eda and king and luzmari. and, like, cool motive, still trapping an entire society of people.

but like. shes the one who is here right now and nobody else is trying to help this kid.

but the collector just. hes just an eight year old. a very, very old eight year old. but he doesnt understand things like "you can make the wrong choices and still choose to do better later" and "im mad at what you did but that doesnt mean i dont care about you."

he just sees someone upset with him. just sees another person who used him and doesnt care and is going to leave bc everyone leaves him and in a world where EVERY SINGLE PERSON comes in pairs, hes the only one who stands alone.

Out of all your characters (from games or otherwise), which one do you think is the most like you? In what ways? Was it intentional, or was it an accident you only noticed after the fact?

Oh, Alex, for sure.

Not by a wide margin, mind. I'm just realizing that most of my other OCs are extroverts, which puts Alex in the running strictly because she isn't. And I'm gonna be honest with you, it's a pretty slim comparison! Alex, as my grim-faced and stern bastard of a seaman, is definitely quicker to act than I am, definitely more willing to take chances than I am, and definitely grows into her confidence more than I ever will. She is commanding and clever and a really good decision maker, especially on the fly. Those are things that I aspire to have rather than traits I actually see in myself LMAO.

But there's some commonality. We both prefer our solitude, both tend to run away from our problems, both have questionable relationships with our parents and both tend to surround ourselves with interesting people to surrogate that. I also very much gave her my deep loathing for pretentiousness, and she gave me my weird relationship with gender! (I had never questioned it until I made her, and as I came to understand where she sat on the spectrum, it echoed my own experiences so much that I realized I needed to have a good hard think about it LMAO.)

Whether or not this was intentional is...a difficult question, I think! No, I didn't intend to make her like me. I don't often put that much thought into any character when I make them! But no one creates something without leaving their fingerprints in it, and I think since Alex's story always revolved around the way she interfaced with the world as a sheltered and ostracized child/teen/adult, I think some of the similarities stand out in part BECAUSE I'm where I draw inspiration for reacting to the world.

Her love for local theater was an accident, though. Sorry, love! You're just so charming when you have a weird special interest. 😘
