I will not beg; the court can give me a death sentence- Yasin Malik
On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) requested the court to announce the death penalty for Yasin Malik, the controversial separatist leader from Jammu & Kashmir. Yashin however did not plead and said that he would like to leave the decision to the court.
The lawyer attending the court proceedings in the courtroom said, "Yasin said that if I have been involved in any terrorist activity or violence in 28 years, if Indian Intelligence proves this, then I will also retire from politics. I will accept the hanging. I have worked with seven Prime Ministers."
When asked about the demand for the death penalty for Yasin by NIA, he said, "I will not beg for anything. The case is before this court and I leave it to the court to decide it."
The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for NIS however presented in the court that it was Yassin who should be held responsible for the Kashmiri exodus.
Previously, Malik was convicted by the court in this matter while he also pleaded guilty in the terror funding case.
The NIA lawyer tried his best to get the maximum punishment for Malik whereas Advocate Akhand Pratap Singh, the court-appointed amicus was after minimum punishment.
On the sentence point, Yasin Malik was recorded saying, "I have already given my words in the court and now it is the court's discretion."
Yasin was charged with offenses punishable under sections 120B IPC, 121 IPC, 121A IPC, 13 UAPA r/w 120B IPC, 15 UAPA r/w 120B IPC, 17 UAPA, 18 UAPA, 20 UAPA, 38 UAPA, and 39 UAPA and was convicted by the court.
