NAME: Dangerous Convenience Store
Danger can come in many shapes and sizes, and the kind of danger Yeo Eui-joon has to deal with comes in the form of buff, brash, belligerent gangsters. He knew that working nights in a shifty neighborhood wouldn’t be the safest job on the planet, but reality sure does exceed expectations. However, Eui-joon’s days as the neighborhood punching bag look like they’re coming to a close when Gunwoo steps into this small store. Gunwoo, gruff as he is, genuinely seems to care about Eui-joon’s well-being, so it doesn't take long for Eui-joon to fall for this charismatic giant.

Touch Your Heart / Reach of Sincerity (2019)
Tumblr media
I really liked this show. It was fun, quirky and cute with a few heavy moments to keep the show grounded. Not a headliner, but something you can put on and just hang out with for an hour or so and still enjoy.
What Worked
Yoo In-na carried the show. She was just a super cute ball of charm, and all the scenes with her and Lee Dong-wook (who not exactly grumpy, but definitely uptight) were great. This was the happy version of the same couple from Goblin, and I was there for it. The supporting cast was great as well, though only Oh Jung-se's performance was super memorable for me.
What Didn't Work
This show is not very realistic. Most of the time that works, but once in awhile a plot line or a scene will kind of fall flat. Also, I personally didn't like the Choi Yoon-hyuk / Dan Moon-hee pairing. The actors were fine on their own, but a bit too much together.
The Performances
Yoo In-na as Oh Jin-shim / Oh Yoon-seo, AKA "The Talent". Yoo In-na was so much fun to watch. She is just a really great comic actor who knows all about timing and has tons of charm.
Lee Dong-wook as Kwon Jung-rok, AKA "the Ace Attorney". It's funny how you can see him playing an angel of death in one series, and a straitlaced lawyer in another and they somehow end up being very similar characters. I still enjoyed watching him, especially when he was able to open up towards the end of the series, but the character felt very familiar to me after seeing Goblin.
Oh Jung-se as Yeon Joon-kyu, AKA "Fanboy CEO". I liked Oh Jung-se in this. His character was talking, extremely petty, and very funny. May favorite role for him since maybe IOK2NBOK.
Lee Sang-woo as Kim Se-won, AKA "The Bestie". He was billed as the second lead, but this felt more like a supporting role. I enjoyed him when he was there, especially his banter with Lee Dong-wook's character and the whole arc for him, but I didn't miss him when he was off screen.
Son Seong-yoon as Yoo Yeo-reum, AKA "Bestie's Ex". I liked this character, but the show didn't do much with the character arc, overall. Nice, but not memorable.
Jang So-yeon as Yang Eun-ji, AKA "Office Mom". I enjoyed seeing this actor again after her much bigger role in Something in the Rain. I don't like the arc they gave her, but it didn't really detract from the show, just kind of went nowhere.
Park Ji-hwan as Lee Doo-seob, AKA "Secret Poet". I liked seeing this actor, after watching him in Our Blues. I really related to this character, but they didn't really do much with him (other than a small love arc). Another case where they had a really good actor in a quiet role.
Oh Eui-shik as Kong Hyuk-joon, AKA "the Manager". It was fun seeing this guy play off of the other characters, but he was mostly there for comic relief and sometimes moving the plot forward. Not super memorable.
Everyone Else. The rest of the office staff was good, but not memorable. The guy that played the stalker / chaebol crook (Jay Kim) did a good job, but I was kind of glad when they moved past that plot line. I didn't like the "Black Widow" murder plot, but the actors did okay with what they were given.
TL; DR:
A charming romp with two amazing leads, and a good cast of supporting actors that didn't get much attention. But the fireworks from the leads were more than enough to carry the show.

Hello everyone, I am back from the dead with my 6th yaoi review. Today it will be the manhwa, The Dangerous Convenience Store by 945 or Gusao. There will be spoilers for the entirety of the series so please be warned.
~
~
~
~
First off, I loved this manhwa so much. The story I would give a solid 8/10. It has around 88 chapters, so it was kind of long with bonus chapters, but it was very enjoyable the whole way through. I could really tell how much 945 cared about the story and put many things in place to call back to as the story progressed. My favorite part has to be the chapters in Bum Geon Woo's perspective. When you find out that he was coming to the convenience store so often just to see Yeo Eui Joon was so CUTE! It was also cute that when we was reunited with him later after so long that he came up with anything to keep in contact with him like the money that Eui Joon owed him and adding interest when he tried to pay it back lol. I also really loved that every thing would come around full circle like that at first Geonwoo and Eui Joon met at the convenience store he worked at and then after not seeing eachother for years they finally met at another convenience store. I LOVED Geon Woo, he is a solid 8.5/10 character for me. He was always so sweet and I understood why he would make the choices that he did. While, I understood that he was just trying to protect Eui Joon(8/10), I still think he should have trusted him more and would be more communicative. ESPECIALLY, with him disappearing for almost FOUR years without a word and still refused to go into it when he returned! You can't be surprised that things didn't go exactly back to normal after what my poor boy went through. Though, I loved that Geon Woo always would do whatever he could to try and be with Eui Joon. He's very blunt, but was so caring to him and the fact that he could always tell when he was upset even when he couldn't see him physically was so nice. He also was so understanding of Eui Joon's feelings and was almost never upset with him, it's very nice to see from a seme for once. I'll stop my gushing over Geon Woo now lol. The art is a solid 8/10 with some scenes being a little awkward looking, but I still very much liked the art and character designs. I absolutely adored the chibi art moments, they were just so adorable! Also, even though they weren't in the story super often, I really liked Eui Joon's friends Kim TaeYoung and JuYeon(8/10). They were always super supportive and just wanted to look out for him. The kind of friends everyone needs. Yoon HyunWoo(1/10) and Eui Joon's ex-boyfriend(-50/10) that he gets later in the story sucked so bad. Poor Eui Joon is really bad at picking good guys besides Geon Woo. So, because of this I really do understand why Eui Joon is so cautious with Geon Woo because he doesn't want to be hurt more than he already does. That is something I like about him a lot is that when he is done with someone he is DONE. Now, Cha Jaehyun was also a solid 8.5/10 character. He was nice and funny and I really felt bad for him that he just never felt recognized for himself and he just always compared to others and not seen as good enough. He is just a very likeable person to me, besides of course his first meeting with Eui Joon as that was fucked up. Eui Joon's brother Yeo Eui Hyeon(8.5/10) was so cute and supportive too. The most tense time for me was when Geonwoo confronted Eui Joon about his kiss with Cha Jaehyun. I was so scared that there would be a horrible misunderstanding and it would delay them getting together even longer! Seeing Eui Joon panicking and so desperate to explain himself was so sad. The absolute cutest line was in chapter 52 after the get together and Eui Joon mentions how he is nervous but mentions how calm Geon Woo always seems and then Geon Woo says in return, "I've never been calm around you." My only issue was that the gap of time that Geon Woo was gone for felt like it brushed past some pretty major events especially like his brother finally waking up from his coma. It was so sad to see that Eui Joon held onto Geon Woo's flowers for over a year. Side note: did anyone else notice that they really started putting in more feet shots in the latter half of this manhwa lol? Anyways, comment thoughts on this manhwa too.

Summer favorites 2022!
------------------------------------------
GREETINGS
------------------------------------------
July 08 / 2022
Hello,
Slowly working on a lot of things, I was really exhausted from starting my new job so early in the morning..I have to wake up at 5:30 am and I start from 7am to 2:30 pm. waking up this early is still hard on me as a person who is tired all the time. So needless to say all I’ve been doing in my free time is basically catching up on sleep which is why I’ve been MIA for a month.
I am currently working on a few things but none of which is finished yet, but hopefully I can get my lazy ass out of this misery and finish something soon.
On that note there are a lot of series that have been on hiatus that are coming back so I could update you on those as soon as some of the English translations have been out. I have a few titles this month that i have seen for a while but have not tried them out till now, and I was surprised that I enjoyed reading them so far.
I hope you enjoy the recommendations for this month!
                                          Happy reading!
Sheena
Tumblr media
Recap:
I’m just going to put up the ongoing list only. I also eliminated some titles because they are now completed or I dropped them for now. Fair warning, a lot of trash talking in this section but what do you expect from someone who has read so many of these stories, these are all my opinions only and if you can’t take people slandering your favorite character, skip this section all together because I won’t apologize for a character’s trashy behavior or excuse them.
Ongoing
Liveta
Pearl boy (hiatus)
Turn off the camera
Semantic error
The third ending
Secret relationships
Kings Maker (S2)
One night mate
Night fragments
Love is a fantasy
The pizza delivery man and the gold palace
Updates on ongoing titles:
Just looking at the list getting smaller...aww, most of them are completed now, it makes me happy that I have talked about them for so long and seeing how their stories come to an end is really nice.
Love is a fantasy/Love is an illusion –the queen:
I know I just recently recommended this, so this is more of a rant than an update, I’ve just seen people make comments on dogyeom’s promiscuous behavior and say that she’s always stressing out seungha and he’s better off with the other dude...
Okay firstly, unlike love is an illusion, this isn’t BL/yaoi...so these yaoi fan girls need to calm their asses, and as well as dogyeom is a single woman, they aren’t together yet, so at this point she can sleep with whoever she wants to. People are trying to make is sound like she’s trash because she’s seeing other people and stressing out seungha, when in fact that their relationship is like this way because they both aren’t upfront about their feelings, so neither of them think they are interested in each other.
Instead people are really pushing for the other dude to be their favorite, and I’m like...why?
He is not interesting at all, he has zero personality and I’m just wondering what you are all seeing ?  if he had a personality maybe I can see where you are all coming from, but all I’m getting from these comments is that you like him cause he’s a “guy” and you want this to fit your BL narrative, just because dogyeom’s a woman she deserves all the slander for being promiscuous when many BL protagonists does the same thing and is not called out for it...omg...what the actual f*ck is up with that? What are you on about?
Just because he’s nice doesn’t mean anything...this is basic human etiquette. Dogyeom does the same thing and also respects seungha. I just don’t understand why this is even an argument. I’m just reading this trying to figure out why she’s getting so much hate when she is really good female protagonist in my opinion.
Also a point I’d like to make is that people think he’s hot and I’m like..he looks homeless...So he has no personality nor looks going for him, I have nothing to say in his defense.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to some spicy reads (21+)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dangerous convenient store:
Tumblr media
“Yeo Eui Joon, who works at a convenience store frequented by gangsters, wants to quit as soon as possible because of the dangerous work environment. However, he’s stopped by the pay that’s 1.2x more than other stores! So, Eui Joon, who needs every penny he can get, overlooks the danger and continues working there. Then one day, Bum Geon Woo, who looks more like a gangster than any other gangsters shows up. And as soon as he appears, the other gangsters simmer down…Will Eui Joon be able to safely continue working at this convenience store?”
Okay, I’m probably the last person to read this manhwa, it has been on everyone’s timeline if you follow people that read bl stories on twitter and I have seen it so many times but never thought of actually trying to read it. Again...because bl fangirls like to hype up something and it gets popular and when i try it out...it ends up in the trash list.lol. Never take recommendations from people, who hype up a manga series, you need to see for yourself whether it’s for you. Hopefully the ones I talk about help you through some of that.lol.
Anyways, it is about a college boy paying living on his own after his brother was in an accident and he had to pay for his medical bills while still paying for school to finish his education, but he works the night shift of a convenient store that has been frequent by gangsters at night/ as well as some rude ass customers and that’s why before people don’t want to be scheduled during that time...perfectly understandable.
But euijoon needed the money so he accepted the offer and really had to deal with dumb customers, if you have worked service jobs back then like me or is currently working a t one now...you will understand what i mean by those types of customers....
Except they are all gangsters, which is even worse because you don’t know what will happen. So euijoon was working his night shift and a bunch of tardy gangsters went in and tried to steal and harass him,  he was the only one working so he was contemplating whether to call for help when another man behind the gangster customer shoved the guy out of the way and really asserted dominance so to speak and made the gangster guy back off. Euijoon though the guy who saved him look really intimidating and quickly rang up his order, which was always cigs / alcohol ...or condoms.lol. Euijoon had an underclassman he had an unrequited crush on, but that didn’t stop him from imagining scenarios of this man that walked into his life buying the biggest sized condoms and how he would be in bed...lmao. as you do. Euijoon addresses him as “ajusshi” which you address a male that is older than you in korea, After wards the man geon woo, or “ ah- juicy”  as people him, visits the convenient store at the same time every day when euijoon was working and there were small interactions between them and you can tell that he was interested in euijoon  since he asks about his school life and daily activities. Lol. It was really cute.  But going back to the dude that euijoon had a crush on, he was acting really friendly towards euijoon when he already had a girlfriend, he even tried to make moves on him, which made euijoon uncomfortable since he had already confessed his feelings and got rejected. Euijoon lives alone at this apartment complex and guess who lives next door to him? ....you guessed it “ ajussh...ah juicy..” he came out of his apartment the same time as euijoon and saw that the other dude was going in for a kiss with euijoon and was caught off guard, now that he exposed his sexuality to this random stranger who frequents his work place.
After the crush guy was forced to leave by euijoon, ajusshi and euijoon talked for a bit and euijoon despite knowing that ajusshi is a man with few words listened to him complain about his love problems without any judgement, this made him feel comfortable being around him. After trying to avoid his crush and getting harassed at the convenient store for not doing his job right, he was on the verge of tears when he saw ajusshi, he started to cry and talk about the things that happened, ajusshi saw the wound on his cheek from being slapped by a customer and started to caress his face ...and um make out with him lol. Real smooth...what was that saying, if you want to get over someone get underneath someone else?
He asked if euijoon was uncomfortable and euijoon liked the kiss and then ajusshi suggested to forget about the other dude they should sleep together, and they agreed to do it once, and let’s just say once was not enough for the both of them as they became more involved with each others’ lives and started catching feelings. Euijoon despite knowing ajusshi is a nice and honest person that is also part of the gangster society and was unsure about seeing someone that can potentially be involved with illegal acts.
So he was reluctant to be formally in a relationship with him, ajusshi liked euijoon enough to pursue him and wait for him till he is able to comfortably date him. That’s so sweet, what I like about this story is although ajusshi is not the type of character that would attract me...I do understand why people like him, he always puts euijoon first before thinking of anything else and will accept the outcome even if euijoon decides to date another person. Lol. That is maturity at its finest and you don’t get this in BL....many guys can’t take no for an answer, much like real life...
Euijoon later met chahyun who was the son of the company in which ajusshi works for and tells euijoon that he can’t see geon woo dating a person like him at first, but as they began to know each other, he understood why ajusshi liked euijoon, this was a time when ajusshi was doing some shady business and actually got hurt and has not contact euijoon for a while, but decided to see him when he was able to move out being hospitalized. Euijoon confessed that he tried so hard not to have feelings for ajusshi, but he made him feel loved and special and for the first time, they were on the same page and “made love” very intimately...like really intimate, like I shouldn’t be here...lol.
Later on in the story and near the end of season two, you get to see the complicated feeling emerge as ajusshi and chahyun was involved in a incident that made it sound like chahyun was killed and this made euijoon realize that he can’t handle all the secrecy and became afraid of ajusshi when they were meeting after a while of not contacting each other. Euijoon almost hurt himself to get ajusshi away from him and this hurt them both. Season two ended with euijoon still having feelings of regret after not being able to contact ajusshi by any means ( he’s moved away and changed his number) and it made it seem like the man didn’t exist.  I know this sounds terrible...but season 3 just started so i will end it here.
All and all  better than what i imagined, Euijoon is an interesting character, he may seem spineless and timid to some people but he’s acting like any normal person would, i honestly feel bad that he is treated so badly and he never really retaliated and these offenders get off easily. But I guess it means you like the character and you want better things to happen for them.lol. I hope you enjoyed this, I’m sure some of you have already read this but if you have not, it maybe something you might like.
The Foul:
Tumblr media
“After the death of his father, Joo Hawon is left with his father’s astronomical debt in the foreign land of Macau. With no future in sight, Hawon works as a casino dealer, barely getting by each day. One day, a mysterious man, Kwon Taeha, shows interest in him.
“Now then, let’s have some fun, shall we?”
Hawon agrees, believing that they will be spending their time together in a more frivolous and light way. However, Taeha approached Hawon with both Hawon’s father and his legacy in mind, which, unexpectedly, Hawon has pretended not to know about his entire life.
Hawon is faced with this stranger who claims that if Hawon accepts the proposal, Hawon will be freed from the debt that is weighing down on him.
He has no choice but to accept the convincing proposal, however Kwon Taeha keeps acting differently when Hawon is the only one around. Hawon finds it annoying at first, but then he starts to get confused, because it seems like he’s growing attracted to the man who has offered him the hand of mercy without any obvious reason…”
Maybe this is a poorly aged thing, but this manhwa reminds me a lot of death note, not the context but the way that the characters interact is really witty and intelligent, this is probably how the people who ship light and L would write their fanfic.lol.
So it is about a boy who was raised in a high society, but because of an event that occurred, his father had died and left him with a debt to repay, but this boy works as a casino dealer to pay off his debt and barely had enough money left for living expenses, he was informed by his boss that an important aristocrat was going to be showing up and apparently it was this man that had cleaned up the casino by winning all the games, so it was his job as a “hidden dealer” to throw him off without getting caught. Hidden dealers have these lenses that can let you see the customer’s cards and make their move based on that knowledge, but if anyone were to find out then the casino would go under and hawon was in no position to this job. His table was apparently the only one that was able to get certain customers to come back and play only to lose to him, so he was really well known among st the casino players. Kwon taeha was the said customer that the boss had warned him about and he immediately knew from the way that the man played his cards. This manhwa is really intricate in explain in card game rules and it’s really dialogue heavy which you really need to pay close attention to or you won’t get it. But the interaction between hawon and taeha was like and cat and mouse game in which they were trying to beat each other from one game to another and matching each other’s wits.
After their first interaction at the casino taeha had become interested in hawon and how he plays, and i guess found out more about him by buying his information from another guy, i forgot this guy’s name so let’s call him “drug dealer”. Hawon had a roommate who I’m still confused about in terms of their relationship to each other, since they aren’t romantically involved but they help each other relieve themselves when sexually frustrated, by using hand jobs...this is so weird.lol.
Anyways, the roommate also has a debt and they had met when they were children and had been together since just helping each other out, they were going to run away together once their debt is cleared and start a seaweed farm together. But taeha went to visit hawon and offered him a proposition to work for him on his ship. He will work as a dealer for 2 years and his debt will be personally cleared by taeha, who already offered to pay up half of it if he agrees. Seems too good to be true but what are you supposed to do when you need the money, even if he was skeptically hawon wanted to get out of this life and so he agreed. Hawon had to meet the lawyer to sign papers and apparently get a microchip embedded in him so he doesn’t run off with the money. Hawon was surprised at how easily the debt that seemed endless and spent his life paying off was almost cleared in an instant, this made him feel relived and he had not felt that for a very long time.
The scene I personally liked was when taeha came to visit hawon the day after they talked about the proposition and that day had been raining hard and he was afraid that hawon would have gotten sick, so he bought him meds and supplies that he might need to take care of his health, hawon had a way with words and it made him seem like a defenseless person, but it was a way of flirting that he had used to gain something. Taeha was like “ should I accompany you on the day of departure?” and hawon was like, “ yes because I’m afraid I’ll be too scared” or something and taeha was shocked by his innocent face, hawon was basically like " got em..." cause others fall for the innocent act.  Taeha was later escorted out of hawon’s apartment he mouthed something and made hawon blush in embarrassment...and it was “ you almost got me...” lol. It was cute...and witty.
I like the interaction between the two have this weird sexual tension that is interesting. This is fairly new and I hope to read more of it soon and engage in this story more, it seems really interesting and I different from some of the ones I’ve read before, you can tell that there was a lot of thought being put into this with the plot and how the two main leads never put thier hands on each other yet. I’ll let you know more as updates but i’ll just stop here for now.

Trash segment (21+)
----------------------------------------------------------------
a.k.a the part of the series where I shit on your favorite manhwa/manga/webtoon etc. Joking but not really, you have been warned.
This is the new section where you’re going to find titles that I dropped and the reasons why I discontinued the series all together, fair warning if you triggered by people criticizing your favorite series then you may want to skip this section all together. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and not every series that is “popular” or well liked by others will be like by all...therefore if there is content that makes a person uncomfortable enough to stop the series, that is on them and please don’t judge them for their morals.
So to recap, the series that I mentioned dropping so far are
Love or Hate
Yours to claim
Wistful summer
Anti-p.t.
The sound of fire
Kiss damnation
Cherry blossoms after the winter
Chasing Mr. CEO
Who’s a sweet cheater?
Another sequence:
Tumblr media
“A genius actor Do Yeon-woo, whose every moment in his life is a method acting, and the two men who entered his scene. Seo Tae-hyuk, a movie director from the entertainment industry, and a sex partner who has been sharing for a long time, and Han Yoo-bin, a young but fateful idol from a dirt spoon, came to be like a romance movie.A new sequence of three begins...”
Lol, this summary sucks, but I guess so does the content of this story, it’s what it looks like, messy love triangle with a guy who can’t decide between the two guys when the choice is fairly obvious. This guy is s little different in a sense that he only wants to sleep with people and not have a formal relationship since he does not understand the concept of love.
But omg the black haired guy is so eww...I hate the way he acts, and of course he’s one of those rich entitled a*sholes so you know where this is going. I think what I hate the most this particular trope that happens a lot in BL and that is calling someone you are jealous of and having sex on the phone with the person you both share. It’s kind of like saying...this is what your missing, he’s with me now instead of you...it’s so f*cken childish, it always makes me laugh, if anyone does that to me, i’d just burst out laughing and hang up.lol.
But of course it gets to the other person and they are just both trying to get this dude to like either of them. I think he is leaning more towards the grey haird guy, yoobin, which I’d choose too cause he’s clearly the better option, but this whole story is like nothing i had not seen before, it has all the tropes that I hate, but if you like them feel free to read it.
It is truly trashy romance that I try to just avoid now, since I went through many years of reading stuff like this. Anyways, that’s all I have to say.
Tumblr media
Spy X family
Tumblr media
“The story follows a spy who has to "build a family" to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.”
So yeah, I also joined the population in their love of spy x family, it is really whole some and cute, I honestly thought anya would be one of those kid characters I’d hate, but she’s so freaken cute, she’s like a small little bean and I love her. I really like the actor for both yor and loid, I’ve talked about eguchi takuya as the voice i’d want to play dooshik if pearl boy was an anime, if you watched this and heard his voice you’d understand why. As for yor’s voice actress I’ve noticed she plays a lot of characters with the same look and I really like her voice, it’s really distinctive and calm, which is good since i think all Japanese voice actresses sound so similar to me. Lol. I would not be able to tell them apart to be honest.
I don’t have a favorite episode so far since all of them seem really good, so hopefully as the series gets animated i’ll be able to have distinctive scene I enjoyed.
I’m still in the process of watching it.  I really like the characters and how they try to become a family from just being a group of outcasts. I don’t think I need to say more, if you like romantic comedies and wholesome family dynamics, this is the one for you.
And can we just talk about anya’s smug face...
Tumblr media
this is the face i make when my supervisor expects me to know something and I don’t so i’m faking it.  lol. I am well acquainted with this face.
Tumblr media
BSB playlist, in prep for the concert in august, my friend and I have been trying to listen to their new songs but nothing beats the 90’s hits in my opinion.lol.

How Bum Geon Woo communicates through his body language (Plus how he's actually giving the special treatment Eui Joon's been yearning for)
I reread DCS for, like, the tenth time now. Yes, I'm obsessed ohmygod! I'm liking how these two characters are written so far. I originally wanted to break down just Chapters 20-24 of DCS because the first time I read it I got just a little annoyed with how Geon Woo (a.k.a. Ahjussi) was, let's say, just kind of pushing Euijoon's limits. But I ended up doing more than just Chapters 20-24. Dios mio.
I was just a little tired of seeing the same trend with guys in manhwa. They always seem to be domineering, especially if their partner is the "sweet and naive" archetype. (Eui Joon, I think, does not really fit into this mold.) Of course, that's usually because they're dealing with their own issues, and I don't really blame them.
But I like DCS because it justified that kind of behavior in Geon Woo when he was having sex with Eui Joon (in Chapters 20-24, particularly). Lol I'm probably the only one who realized this later than I should have ehehe. I'm still posting this tho.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD‼️‼️
His antics speak volumes. It's amazing how I missed all those details just because the sex scenes were. Steamy. As. Fuck. Good lordy! Geon Woo is definitely a man of few words (He once said Eui Joon makes him talk like he would for a whole year, haha!), so it would make sense to communicate whatever's going through his mind in a situation through body language.
I also want to add the times that he makes the effort to hold a conversation with Eui Joon. Geon Woo doesn't really talk when he doesn't need to, so it's important to pay attention to his actions.
☙ ☙ ☙ ☙ ☙
Chapters 0-12
The first time we get a glimpse of Geon Woo's side of the story was when Eui Joon finally confesses to the person who's been his crush for 3 effing years, Hyeon Woo. Eui Joon is inexplicably happy when Hyeon Woo says he'll consider and comes to the convenience store in good spirits. Geon Woo, keen as always, notices, and when Eui Joon tells him what happened this is what we get:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the way it was framed. How we see his reaction from behind rather than from the front. He turns away, seeming to go inward and brood once again.
Afterwards, another gangster comes. The guy challenges Geon Woo for taking too long at the front of the line. Geon Woo asks Eui Joon if he smokes, and when he replies that he doesn't, Geon Woo "borrows" the lighter on the countertop and uses that to throw a stronger punch to the man behind him, who temporarily falls unconscious. Geon Woo turns back to Eui Joon, seeming to have something else to say. But he sees the frightened look on Eui Joon's face and decides to keep it to himself before leaving through the door.
"And..." He pauses, turning to Eui Joon. "... Never mind. Good work."
JUST WHAT WAS HE ABOUT TO SAY?!?!?!
In the succeeding panel, Eui Joon is nonplussed. He wonders out loud, "What is happening?" Couldn't have said it better, girl. Geon Woo was just taking out his frustration and he had the perfect opportunity at the moment.
The second time was when Geon Woo invites Eui Joon to drink after the incident with Hyeon Woo (who basically asks Eui Joon to cheat with him and inebriates him—probably with the intention to take advantage of him). From the side stories, we learn that Geon Woo has taken an interest in Eui Joon after seeing him for the second time, and when he comes by through the hallway—finally discovering they were neighbors—and witnesses the two, he sees it as a chance with Eui Joon.
He invites Eui Joon out to drink, after Eui Joon's suggestion for a dinner at 2 in the morning fails to entice him. Eui Joon rambles his questions away, wanting to get to know him better, but Geon Woo doesn't immediately answer and catches him off guard when he "casually" inquires after his sexuality. Not the smoothest move there, lol, but in the side stories we see that wasn't really his intention.
"Damn it, why did I ask that question? It just slipped out..."
He answers Eui Joon's questions afterwards, surprising Eui Joon with the fact that he's actually been listening to what he's been saying for the past minute. We're starting to see just what kind of a person he is (Listening skills are always a plus in my book).
A little later, we see them on their way back to the apartment. Eui Joon asks Geon Woo to tell him anything interesting because he's been the one talking all night. Geon Woo acquiesces, asking a question that may have been part in consideration of Eui Joon's vulnerable state, and perhaps also part due to the possibility that he worried about him.
"Come to think of it... School has already started. Isn't it tiring to work 'til dawn? Aren't you working too much?"
Geon Woo's face is a little hard to read. So every subtle change in his expression says something. If you read the manhwa, you'll see the slightest bit of concern in his eyes. It's hard to catch until you've read the side stories (at least for me, haha).
One more thing I like about Geon Woo is that he doesn't meddle when it's not his business. He knows the state of Eui Joon's family—their inability to afford his college tuition, his hospitalized brother—and he knows he can help. I mean, I don't know how wealthy and powerful he is as a gangster but he probably has the means to. But he rarely opens the topic to Eui Joon.
Aaaand onto Chapter 8! Just before the first sex scene in the entire series. Eui Joon is crying because he had a shitty day both at school and at work, poor thing—all because of Hyeon Woo. He cries even more when he notices that Geon Woo, who came to the store every day, didn't come to the store that day. When he encounters him outside, he breaks down, catching Geon Woo off guard.
Geon Woo tells his lackey to leave and asks Eui Joon to stay. Eui Joon tells him he was fine and proceeds to go back to his room, but Geon Woo frightens him when he says he was already being nice. And then we get this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Ah, I don't mean it that way... Just a while."
That gentle tug is honestly so uncharacteristic of the usual ruffian behavior we often see from Geon Woo. It's a nice sweet detail that proves what he says in Chapter 26 (when he finally confesses) that he treats Eui Joon differently from others.
Eui Joon cries his heart out to Geon Woo, and Geon Woo just lets him. Afterwards, Eui Joon resolves to forget about Hyeon Woo. By finding someone, hmm, more physically endowed.
"I must find someone more good-looking than him. With a nicer body... And a bigger dick!"
Clueless guy basically described the man beside him.
To that, Geon Woo says:
"How long have you known me? You really dare to say anything like that in front of me?"
Which comes off as slightly hostile at first. The next panel shows a dark aura surrounding Geon Woo, which Eui Joon interprets as distress from his implications of doing it with him—whose sexual preference so far remains ambiguous (In the side stories, we learn that Geon Woo himself struggles with figuring this out.). But then, he surprises Eui Joon when he slowly leans in to kiss him.
CUE SEX SCENE! I pitied Eui Joon a little because he wasn't really in the best state when Geon Woo offered this. In Geon Woo's defense, though, from the moment he found out that Eui Joon was gay he saw doors opening. When Eui Joon said something like that, I think his attraction to Eui Joon finally caught up to him and he couldn't resist the opportunity. He definitely wasn’t distressed by the implication of Eui Joon’s words; he was distressed by the decision he had to make—to go through that door or not. Because he knew he wanted it, even though he was constantly denying it from the start.
“This dirty thought wasn’t something that I have planned from the beginning.”
The day after, Eui Joon is a little rattled. He doesn’t know how to treat Geon Woo after that—not when he realized that sex could be that hot and satisfying (uwu). Geon Woo appears to be unaffected while Eui Jon’s brain is in knots about everything. But the questions Geon Woo asks tell us that he’s beginning to show Eui Joon a little emotion. He asks to see Eui Joon’s face to inspect the healing bruise he got yesterday (the one that Geon Woo covered with a bandaid—which was so sweet, huhu). And then, he asks if he was tired after school.
“Let me see your face.”
“School classes. Are you tired after taking them?”
From my perspective, he wasn’t just asking for the sake of being nice to the person he slept with. The story still hasn’t covered much of Geon Woo’s history to know whether he had been like this with his previous partners. Although there was a moment in Chapter 27 during one of their conversations when he gave us a little glimpse:
Geon Woo: It's normal to cry over pathetic things at your age. Eui Joon: Have you cried like that before too? Geon Woo: No. Eui Joon: Then how do you know that? Geon Woo: I just... know. Because there was a guy like that around.
From the time Geon Woo invited him out to drink, I think Geon Woo was genuinely concerned when he asked how Eui Joon was doing.
☙ ☙ ☙ ☙ ☙
Chapters 13-26
Geon Woo's love language, I think, is his actions. He fights off the gangsters that bully Eui Joon into giving them discounts or even paying for them from his own pockets so they won't have to. He gives Eui Joon food and medicine when he finds out he was sick (the morning after having sex with him in the car for hours, lol). He likes taking care of the person he likes. So in Chapter 26, when he "confesses" to Eui Joon, that was Geon Woo pointing out that he's been doing the same thing all along.
"I mean, look at me just once... What kind of person I am. How I treat you. Take a good look at it. If you think that I'm good, then pick me. If not, you can throw me aside." "But. Before you do, you should understand this. Until then, I don't intend to let you get away."
This "non-confession" (he actually tells Eui Joon it wasn't a confession) actually says a lot about Geon Woo. His attitude towards their relationship is very blunt and straightforward. Once he's made a decision, he stops listening to his doubts and stands by it. I don't really know when Geon Woo decided that he liked Eui Joon. It was more slow-growing. In the side stories though, we see him considering this big-time when this thought crosses his mind:
"There's the common phrase of having the opportunity to meet your fateful love. If there's a sign for it, would it be possible to stay vigilant?"
AHJUSSI YOU SOFT-HEARTED ROMANTIC I CAN'T T^T He becomes more bold with Eui Joon afterwards, but he's still a little prickly. He's constantly weighing his options, trying to figure out in what way will doing the things he does for Eui Joon benefit him, if at all. In Chapter 13, when a customer comes inside the store and forces Eui Joon to pay for what he bought, he's on the scales. But then the memory of that morning flashes through his mind, and he remembers how the simple act of Eui Joon giving him his number had made him smile like an idiot. He beats the customer for him, taking the money he owed, and gives it back to Eui Joon. He even manages to casually ask him out on a date. The guy can be smooth as fuck.
Eui Joon: Are you saying... we should eat together? Geon Woo: Sure. I guess I've done something worth compensating. Will you give me my reward?
Take notes, people! At this point, Eui Joon has gotten him wrapped around his finger, and he didn't even know it! Of course, Eui Joon still thinks their relationship is only purely sexual, but then Geon Woo begins doing these uncharacteristically tender gestures that Eui Joon initially interprets as Geon Woo giving him special treatment.
"Let me see your face." "School classes. Are you tired after them" "I'm thinking that... You'll look good in short hair, too."
And Geon Woo even tries to initiate a conversation with Eui Joon when he feels like Eui Joon couldn't take the awkwardness. A good example was when Geon Woo treats him dinner at the restaurant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"...." "Is this your first time coming to this kind of place?"
Somehow, these things he does still feel kind of forced, like he was genuinely annoyed at Eui Joon and everything he did. Even when he asks to do it with him again and Eui Joon refuses because he was still sore, there was a moment of frustration that shone through.
It was a sign that Geon Woo was still confused about the things he was feeling towards Eui Joon. He knew he wanted him physically, but then he doesn't take up the woman's offer that evening after Eui Joon refuses him. It wasn't actually written on paper, but knowing Geon Woo's character he might have felt uneasy about going through with it. Not particularly on Eui Joon's behalf, but it may have been unconscious because of his budding feelings.
His feelings were something that rattled him, and he was usually undeterred in any kind of situation. What rattled him more was that Eui Joon didn't know anything about what he was going through.
Tumblr media
"Being naturally attracted to you, and going through unfamiliar emotions. This feeling should only be felt at an adolescent age."
We're seeing him from behind again. The use of this perspective in manhwas / mangas / comics usually makes you feel like can't tell what the character's thinking about, but most importantly that they're most likely about to go do or SAY SOMETHING DAMN IMPORTANT. Like, maybe, telling their feelings to the person they like!?!?!
"Eui Joon-Ah. I like you."
ASDFGHJKL DID ANYONE SEE THAT COMING?!?!?!
That actually surprised me hella lot. I'd originally thought Geon Woo was the tsundere type, but he was more honest with his feelings than I believed. However, he hadn't been completely convinced by these feelings until Eui Joon had offered to break it off. Suddenly there was an exit to his situation, but he didn't really feel happy about it. He was frustrated at not being able to properly understand what his words made him feel. Because the truth was he didn't want to break things off. He just wouldn't admit to himself at the time that the reason was he actually wanted Eui Joon.
We could see him debating it himself, poor thing:
"I didn't expect myself to be in a situation where I couldn't even understand my own feelings. I should've figured it out the moment I couldn't understand my sexual preference. I'm not that young anymore... What is this?" "No... It could also be a spur of the moment... It doesn't seem to be like that. It might also be due to pride, but I feel it's not necessary for these kinds of feelings to affect my pride... But even when it's like this, I still want to..."
Geon Woo decides to "have a little fun" before conceding to Eui Joon's request to "end their entanglement". But I've noticed that whenever something bothers Geon Woo too much, he takes a smoke. When Eui Joon makes the suggestion, Geon Woo does just that.
The slightly rough way in which Geon Woo treats him afterwards shows his frustration. He grabs his arm roughly and pulls him towards the car, but he doesn't realize he was hurting Eui Joon's wrist with his own watch until Eui Joon whines in pain—at which point Geon Woo just laces his hand through his instead. Which I thought was so sweet T^T
When Eui Joon freaks out about doing it at the school where he studies and asks Geon Woo to consider it for him, Geon Woo says, "Do I have to consider that for you too?" And when Eui Joon asks for him to do that, Geon Woo replies, "I guess I've been too nice to you." THE MAN WAS FREAKING FRUSTRATED!!! Geon Woo even challenges him to stay quiet, telling him no one will hear them if he does. Throughout the whole thing, Geon Woo wanted to dominate him, daring him to take what pleasure he could give him, but with an aggression that bespeaks the storm in his heart and mind. Reading it back, I realized just how damn hot that scene was. I mean, goddamn. After Geon Woo admits his feelings, there's a serenity about him afterwards. He no longer has to second-guess taking care of Eui Joon or expressing what he felt towards him. He gives him food and medicine the next day since he caught a fever. He "invites himself" to watch a movie with him since they both had nothing to do for the rest of the day. The guy was basically courting Eui Joon, haha. Not a confession, my ass XD
And then, when Eui Joon opens up about how he rejected Hyeon Woo, Geon Woo tells him he'll also wait for him for around three years T^T
MY HEART I CAN'T T ^ T ☙ ☙ ☙ ☙ ☙ So that's kiiind of a long breakdown. I included as little pictures as possible. Copyright and all that. I just really like this series so far. I want to be able to read the original someday. Hopefully I'd be able to learn Korean T^T. If you like this as much as I do, chat me up =D would love to hear other thoughts.
