Ateez - Flu - Part 6
Tumblr media
It was noon by the time Seonghwa returned with Yunho in tow. Hongjoong popped his head out of his bedroom, dismayed to find his dongsaeng still flushed with fever but took solace in the fact that the glaze in his eyes had lightened up since the prior day.
“He’s doing a lot better, Joong” Seonghwa reassured upon noticing the concern on Hongjoong’s face as Hongjoong joined him in the living room. “His temperature is down and he has some meds to keep it that way, but they said the fever won’t break for another few days. The meds have been knocking him out straight away though so that’s something.”
Yunho groaned at the reminder, the fever taking its toll on him and his brain feeling scrambled and groggy from his medication.
“I’ll put him to bed” Seonghwa said as he wrapped an arm around Yunho’s shoulder. “Can you grab him a bottle of water?”
Hongjoong made it to the kitchen before his vision blurred, a reminder of the illness that was setting in with no regard for the fact he had sick kids to take care of. He took a few moments to collect himself, letting the dizzy spell pass for the time being.
Once Yunho was settled in Seonghwa and Hongjoong collapsed on the couch, both clearly exhausted.
“Did you sleep last night?” Hongjoong broke the silence, already knowing the answer.
Seonghwa shook his head as he rubbed his eyes harshly. “His nurse wanted me to go home for the night but I didn’t want him to wake up alone.” Hongjoong nodded in understanding at that. He would have done the same thing. “I tried to sleep in the chair but I couldn’t get comfortable. How about you? How are Mingi and Wooyoung doing?”
Hongjoong sighed before responding. “Mingi is Mingi. He wants nothing to do with anybody right now. I’ve been forcing tablets and water into him. He’s not very happy with me right now. And Wooyoung…” his voice trailed off for a moment before continuing. “I tried to get him to sleep in San’s bed and have San stay with Yeo and Jongho but he ended up in bed with me.”
Seonghwa glared at him with disapproval. Hongjoong knew that Seonghwa was concerned about him coming down with the flu too, but Seonghwa also had no idea that that ship had already sailed.
“Don’t look at me that way, Hwa. Please.” Hongjoong said defensively. “It was either that or stay up with him all night while he cried. This flu is no joke.”
Seonghwa rolled his eyes, the tension in the room building by the moment. “Yeah, I’m fully aware, believe it or not, after spending the night in the fucking hospital with Yunho teetering on the edge of what could have been a dangerous fever. But thank you for the reminder.”
Even in his current state Hongjoong could sense that this interaction was devolving into something that he didn’t have the capacity to deal with at the moment. “You’re right, I’m sorry. You need to get some sleep now though.”
“Shit…no, I’m sorry. I’m not trying to pick a fight…I’m just…yeah I need sleep” Seonghwa quickly agreed. “Please wake me up if you need me though” he added as he trudged off to bed.
*~*~*~*~*~
The sound of the front door opening startled San awake. Seonghwa had his hands full with Yunho and didn’t even seem to notice San, who had taken up residence on the couch.
Wooyoung had kept San and Hongjoong up for the better part of the night and into the early hours of the morning as his fever spiked and the body aches set in. Hongjoong had finally gotten him settled into San’s bed, hoping that keeping Yunho and Wooyoung together and Mingi isolated in his own room would prevent further spread but, by the time Hongjoong carried Wooyoung off to his shared room with Seonghwa, San wasn’t sure where he should sleep. His own room was out of the question, his bedding damp from Wooyoung’s sweat and tears, and he wasn’t sure when Yunho would be coming home and in need of his own bed.
He briefly considered Wooyoung’s bed before pausing. Yeosang and Jongho were the only members that hadn’t been exposed to the flu yet and San had spent the day with Wooyoung. Not wanting to risk it, San made his way to the couch before collapsing into a deep sleep.
*~*~*~*~*~
San quickly sat up and vacated the couch, his mind still hazy with sleep, catching Seonghwa’s attention as he emerged from Yunho’s room.
“Hey, I’m sorry to wake you, Sannie” Seonghwa said with an exhausted smile as he closed the door behind him. “You look tired. There’s no schedules today, why don’t you get a little more sleep?”
San shrugged in response. “I was napping with Wooyoung when he woke up feeling sick so…I can help you and Hongjoong-hyung since I’ve already been exposed.” San immediately regretted mentioning that to Seonghwa as concern crossed his hyung’s face. He immediately spoke up again, hoping to put Seonghwa at ease. “I’m feeling totally fine, don’t worry!”
It seemed to be enough to placate Seonghwa for the time being. “Well please tell me if you start feeling sick, okay?” San nodded quickly in response before Seonghwa continued. “I hate to ask you, but would you mind going out to the store to get a box of popsicles? Yunho was asking for one on the way home and I gave him Yeosang’s last one yesterday but if it will keep him cool and hydrated…” The speed with which Seonghwa was speaking continued to increase until San interjected.
“What puppy wants, puppy gets” San said with a reassuring smile, grabbing his wallet and heading for the door.
*~*~*~*~*~
“Mingi, let me in please” Hongjoong hissed through Mingi’s door, not wanting to wake any of the sleeping members.
He was about to knock again when he felt a vibration coming from his pocket. Hongjoong rolled his eyes as he opened the text from Mingi:
“Let me sleep.”
Hongjoong was about to protest when he received a second message. A picture of an empty bottle of water with a mostly full bottle next to it.
“At least let me check your…” he was once more cut off, this time by a second picture of a thermometer reading 38.1°.
With that Hongjoong admitted defeat. “Please let me know if you need anything.” After glancing into his own room and confirming that Seonghwa and Wooyoung were still both fast asleep and wrapping an ice pack around the back of Yunho’s hand where the IV needle had been inserted in hopes that it would dull the pain that he was complaining of, Hongjoong stepped into the washroom, locking the door behind him. It took a moment of shuffling to find another thermometer in the medicine cabinet but upon locating it behind a box of bandages he popped it under his tongue. He cringed at the quick beeps that signaled a fever before he could even look at the reading. It wasn’t as if he didn’t already know that he was feverish and he was fully aware that sleeping in close proximity to his own personal little space heater, Wooyoung, hadn’t helped at all, but he hadn’t expected his temperature to be 38.5°.
A cough coming from Yunho’s room quickly drew him back to reality. Knowing it was only a matter of time until he was needed again, he quickly swallowed a few of the fever reducers that he had left on the vanity that morning and turned on the shower, opting to take a fast lukewarm shower in hopes that it would get his fever down enough to continue with his day relatively uninterrupted.
If there was anything that Hongjoong was acutely aware of, however, was that no aspect of his life was ever uninterrupted, and a quiet knock on the door reminded him that this situation was no different.
“I’m just getting out of the shower” Hongjoong responded with a sigh as he turned the water off, doing his best to hide the way his teeth were chattering.
“Hyung” the knocking continued as Yeosang’s voice called to him from the other side of the door.
“Yeosang, please give me five minutes” Hongjoong sighed, doing his best to control his temper. Of course he loved Yeosang, but knowing him he’d be asking where the cereal was or confirming tomorrow’s schedule despite Hongjoong having reviewed it twice with him the day prior.
“Hyung, it’s important…its…”
Hongjoong had had enough. Hastily wrapping a towel around his waist, he swung the door open, prepared to lay into Yeosang about respecting one another’s space and about actually listening to what other people were saying. But those thoughts melted away as he found Yeosang awkwardly holding up San as San awkwardly held up a box of popsicles.
“What puppy wants…” San started before interrupted momentarily with a cough. “…puppy gets” he finished, quickly swinging his arm around to hand Yunho’s popsicles to Hongjoong before leaning a little more heavily into Yeosang.
“Sorry, I’m just a little dizzy all of a…” but before San could finish, his eyes rolled back as the rest of his body weight sunk into Yeosang’s arms.
It took a moment for Hongjoong’s fever-addled brain to comprehend what had happened. And even when he realized that San had fainted, it still took his mind another moment to move on from the first and only thought to cross his mind:
Oh. Fuck.

⌛🐶 I will stay for you
Sickie: Yunho
Caretaker: Seonghwa and Hongjoong (mostly)
„Fifteen minutes until stage“, the lead manager called through the waiting room where the ATEEZ members were relaxing until they started their concert. He sounded frantic. “Where is Yunho-yah?”
Seonghwa looked up from his phone, having checked the Twitter messages from ATINY who were looking forward to the concert. Yunho had been sitting next to him since they were both done with make-up, hair and styling. At one point the younger had excused himself to the bathroom and since then he hadn’t returned. Taking a look at the clock, Seonghwa realized he had lost track of time – he was sure that his dongsaeng must have been gone for over twenty minutes now.
“Seonghwa?”, Hongjoong said, looking around too, “wasn’t he with you?”
“Uh, yeah”, Seonghwa admitted, “he went to the bathroom, I think, but he’s been gone for some time. Should I go look for him?”
The manager looked like he wanted to protest, probably not eager to lose another member so close to the concert but then a loud curse had them look at Wooyoung. The younger member had somehow managed to spill his soda all over his stage outfit, the white shirt sticking to his skin. He and San stared at each other in shock, frozen in their game of catch.
Hongjoong rolled his eyes next to him. Yet Seonghwa recognized the worry in how he held himself, and also the guilt of not having noticed they were missing a member. Seonghwa squeezed his hand in comfort.
“Yeah, go look for him. I’ll get them sorted out”, the manager sighed. Seonghwa nodded and put his phone on the table. Stretching slightly he got up and left the waiting room, looking up and down the hallway to figure out where their dance leader might have disappeared to. It wasn’t like Yunho to just vanish without a trace – especially half an hour before one of their concerts. There must have been a bigger reason for that.
Not sure where to search Seonghwa decided to check the bathrooms first, especially since Yunho had said he needed to go there. He just hoped that the younger man wasn’t sick or anything – maybe lost somewhere in the admittedly not so large venue.
When he pushed open the door to the bathroom he heard the strangled sound of heaving and he was immediately assaulted by the stench of vomit. It seemed like his fear had come true – this was a disaster. Deciding that logistics of the concert could be the manager’s problem he went to check on his dongsaeng.
“Yunho-yah? Are you okay?”, he called as he knocked on the only locked stall door, mentally face-palming. The sounds coming from the stall were most certainly not an indication that Yunho was okay.
There was another retch and then a hesitant: “Hwa-hyung?”
“It’s me, let me in?”, he asked and after a second he heard a click but the door didn’t open. He pushed down the handle, glad that the door opened to the outside and peeked inside. What he found was a truly heart-breaking sight.
Yunho was kneeling in front of the toilet, resting his head on his arms which were crossed over the bowl so he could get sick without moving and maximum comfort – at least as comfortable as was possible in such a position. The parts of his skin that Seonghwa could see were nearly translucent and, like his hair, full of sweat. All in all he looked pitiful.
While normally a clean freak, Seonghwa didn’t hesitate to kneel down behind him, placing a hand on his back and tentatively rubbing circles. For the moment Yunho seemed to have a respite from vomiting so Seonghwa, full of concern, asked: “What happened? Why didn’t you say earlier that you felt sick?”
“I don’t know what happened”, Yunho rasped, voice nearly gone from the constant strain on his throat and soundly strangely muffled from his position practically inside the toilet, “I was fine all day, even during make-up and then from one second to the next I started feeling like I was going to be sick so I came in here.” He stopped to cough with triggered a dry-heave but he didn’t bring up anything for the moment.
“I wanted to go back and say that I can’t perform but I haven’t had more than a few minutes without vomiting since I started. I don’t know why I can’t stop vomiting.”
Seonghwa sighed and squeezed his shoulder with his free hand. “I’m sorry you’re feeling so sick”, he offered helplessly. “Can I do anything for you?”
“Uh, could you…” Yunho broke off as he burped and then he jerked forward as he started to bring up his stomach contents again. Seonghwa gently held back his hair from his forehead, letting Yunho rest his head against his palm, while rubbing his back again. He watched how Yunho spat out wave after wave of stomach contents, trying not to feel too queasy at the sight of the noodles from lunch making an encore appearance in a less appetizing way.
“Oh, Yunho-yah”, Seonghwa whispered, panicking internally. This was not in his job description of being the oldest hyung. What do you do when you were holding a violently sick idol in your arms when you both need to be in stage in less than ten minutes? Why didn’t an idol contract came with a ‘how to deal with your (sick) dongsaengs’ handbook?
Finally Yunho stopped bringing up anything for the time being, so Seonghwa helped him lean back against the stall wall. He ripped off a piece of toilet paper and gently wiped Yunho’s mouth, the younger having closed his eyes in exhaustion. Seonghwa threw the soiled paper into the toilet and flushed. It really didn’t do anything for the smell anymore.
“Yunho? Uh, I have to find the manager and Hongjoong, there is no way you can perform like this. Do you want to come with me to the waiting room or stay here?”
“I don’t think I should move too far away”, Yunho whispered and hiccoughed wetly.
“Okay, I’ll be quick, sweetheart. You won’t be alone for long, I promise.” Seonghwa pressed a kiss against Yunho’s forehead – a silent promise – and pushed himself up.
He left the bathroom quickly but before the door close he could hear Yunho throwing up again. He jogged back to the waiting room and was nearly hit in the face by the door. The manager apologized and pulled him inside.
Inside all the members were ready to go on stage, but there was worry in their face. Hongjoong was desperately trying to keep a cool façade but Seonghwa could tell that the captain was anything but relaxed.
“Where were you?”, the manager hissed, not malicious but stressed, “why did you take so long? You have to be on stage in five minutes! Didn’t you find Yunho-yah?”
“Yeah, about that”, Seonghwa started, feeling like he just walked to his doom, “Yunho-yah is in the bathroom. He can’t stop throwing up, I don’t know what is wrong…”
For a moment the manager just stared at Seonghwa and he wasn’t sure if the manager was about to cry or laugh.
“Please tell me you are joking”, he pleaded instead.
Seonghwa shook his head. “I really don’t want to eat noodles anytime soon.”
“Right, uhm, yeah, uhh… shit”, the manager mumbled, then activated his headset. “Move the beginning of the show fifteen minutes back.”
“What do we do now?”, Wooyoung asked the question they were all asking themselves.
“There is no way Yunho can perform”, Seonghwa said, turning to the manager.
“But…”, the manager started, but stopped himself.
Hongjoong stepped forward, playing a hand on the manager’s arm. “I won’t allow a sick member to perform, especially if he is off as badly as Seonghwa described. I will go check on him, the rest of you figure out how we can get him home. ATINY won’t care that we are missing a member, they will be worried if anything.”
With that Hongjoong left the dressing room, not unlike a man on a mission.
Hongjoong wouldn’t admit it but he was close to freaking out. A sick dongsaeng was always an issue but especially when missing a concert. Not only had the fans paid to see them but the sick member would feel like they were letting down the team and ATINY. Besides, in their dorms illness spread like wildfire.
The moment he entered the bathroom he heard the sobbing. Steeling himself, he walked towards the stall where he could see Yunho’s shoe peeking out. His dance leader really was too big for these stalls.
He knocked on the door, just an acknowledgement not asking for entrance. Behind the door he found Yunho leaning against the plastic wall, one knee pulled to his chest, the other leg stretched out. He had his head resting on the knee, arms wrapped around, hugging himself.
“Hey, baby”, Hongjoong whispered, kneeling down. Yunho didn’t lift his head, just turned slightly so he could look at him. Hongjoong reached out and brushed his sweat-soaked hair away from his glazed over eyes.
“Hyung?”, Yunho suddenly said, voice hoarse, “shouldn’t you be on stage?”
“Don’t worry about that, Yunho. We pushed the beginning of the show back so we can take care of you”, Hongjoong soothed.
“But ATINY, the concert”, Yunho said, body shaking as he cried.
Gently Hongjoong took the younger’s hands in his own. “ATINY will understand. Your health is more important. You know you can’t perform like this.”
Yunho just continued crying but soon the sobs turned into heaves. Quickly Hongjoong helped his dongsaeng back over the toilet as bile spilled from his mouth.
Exhausted, Yunho slumped back into his captain the moment he was done. Buried under his tall member, Hongjoong just wrapped his arms around him, trying to help him calm down. He wished he had brought a water bottle or anything so they could try to get Yunho at least a bit hydrated.
As if they had heard his prayers, the door to the bathroom opened and they were quickly joined by Mingi and Jongho.
“Oh, hyung”, Jongho giggled a bit. Hongjoong assumed they must make quite a picture, the smallest member trying to hold up the biggest member all the while unable to even wrap his arms completely around his chest.
They helped Hongjoong move Yunho back against the wall and Mingi knelt down next to his best friend.
“Yunho? I know you feel terrible but can you try to drink some water for us?”, he asked, holding out a bottle.
Reluctantly, but likely too tired to protest, Yunho let Mingi place the bottle against his lips and took a few sips. At that time, Jongho turned to Hongjoong. “Manager-hyung send us to fetch you two. We set up the couch for him, Yunho-hyung can rest there until we go home. The managers and the stylist noonas said they would keep an eye on him.”
“Thank you, Jongho, Mingi”, Hongjoong said, relieved. While he wished that they could get Yunho home and into bed as soon as possible, he was reluctant to send him home alone. This way they could check on his during outfit changes and the break.
Hongjoong stepped out of the stall, so that Jongho and Mingi were able to help Yunho to his feet in the narrow space. Slowly they made their way back to the dressing room.
The other members smiled at them as they entered, Wooyoung clutching Yeosang’s and San’s hands, while Seonghwa was talking with the manager. As promised the couch was set up with a blanket, a pillow and a bucket. Carefully Jongho and Mingi helped Yunho lay down and immediately San was kneeling by his roommate, running his fingers through the black hair.
“Hey, Yunho”, he whispered, “don’t worry, we got you. Sleep.”
And sleep Yunho did. Through their whole concert and the frequent check-ups by his members; in fact he was barely awake when Mingi and Seonghwa led him to their car home. Hongjoong and Seonghwa sat down in the seat next to the sick dancer, holding his hands – and when the nausea combined with the motion of the car got too much – a plastic bag.
Once he was cleaned up and changed into comfortable pyjamas, Hongjoong expected Yunho to fall back asleep as soon as he was horizontal. Yet Yunho blinked open his eyes and grabbed Hongjoong’s hand.
“The concert?”, he rasped, voice gone from the repeated vomiting.
“We missed you terribly, as did ATINY, but they are were worried and are sending you all their love”, Hongjoong soothed, rubbing his shoulders, “nobody minded, just get better soon.”
“’Kay”, Yunho mumbled, his last reserves of energy depleted, “stay?”
“I’ll stay, baby, don’t worry”, Hongjoong said, exchanging a glance with Seonghwa. They had decided earlier that the two eldest would stay with Yunho during the night, sharing San’s bed. San would have to bunk with one of the others or could enjoy the freedom of a room for himself for once if he decided to sleep in the hyung’s room. But they way Yunho was tugging at Hongjoong’s hand was clear.
Without further ado, Hongjoong slipped into bed with Yunho, wrapping him in his arms. Seonghwa placed a trash can by the side of the bed, then he turned of the light and got under San’s covers.
“Sleep well”, Hongjoong whispered, pressing a kiss to Yunho’s forehead.

1. “My stomach really doesn’t feel so good all of a sudden.”
Sick Yunho & caretaker Seonghwa? Pretty please with sugar on top? 😊
Warning: description of throwing up/vomit
Tumblr media
Yunho usually was awkward to tell anyone if he wasn't feeling well. It doesn't happen often in the first place and if it happens he usually deals with it on his own. However, he didn't expect to feel unwell while he was out shopping with Seonghwa in a foreign country. They were currently on tour and had the day off so they could relax before the next concert started. Seonghwa found out there is a big Lego store in town so obviously he wanted to check it out but not on his own. As Seonghwa asked Yunho couldn't say no. His Hyung rarely asked him to join him in buying new stuff for his lego collection. And Yu ho didn't expect to feel sick. He was fine earlier. Maybe he ate too fast or he had jet lag. Whatever it was he was feeling really bad right now and there's no way he would get sick in the middle of the street. So he had no other choice than to tell.
"Hyung, my stomach really doesn't feel so good all of a sudden." Yunho admit.
Seonghwa furrowed his eyebrows in concern. "Do you want go back to the hotel?"
Yunho shook his head. "I need the bathroom. I feel like throwing up." He bit down on his lower lip.
The older one widened his eyes and looked around. Luckily there was a restaurant around the corner. Seonghwa grabbed the younger by his arm and carefully pulled him with him. The two immediately went to the bathroom and Yunho made a dash to the nearest stall. Sickness rushed up his throat as undigested food splashed I to the porcelain of the toilet. Seonghwa was close behind and kneeled down. Behind the younger. Rubbing his spine up and down. He knew that Yunho usually doesn't like anyone to be close if he's throwing up so Seonghwa decided against saying anything and just keep him company. Yunho couldn't be more grateful for that. He was glad that someone was beside him but he would be too overwhelmed with someone talking to him. That's why he relaxed after a while and only spit a few times into the toilet to get rid of the taste. To his surprise he felt good after throwing up. As if nothing bothered him in the first place.
"Are you okay?" Seonghwa asked as he handed Yunho as tissue.
The younger nodded "Yeah. Surprisingly I feel really good now."
Seonghwa hummed "Take it easy, okay?"
"Sure. Give me a few minutes and we can go to the store." Yunho said
Seonghwa tilted his head in confusion. "What?"
"Yeah just 5 minutes. Sorry to let you wait." Yunho said.
Seonghwa shook his head "We're going home. There's no way I'll go shopping with someone who threw up out of nowhere."
Yunho sighed "But you were so excited.."
Seonghwa ruffled the youngers hair and shook his head. "You're an idiot. Let's go back"

Ateez - Flu - Part 7
Tumblr media
It all happened so fast. Much too fast for Hongjoong’s brain to compute. He only snapped out of it when Yeosang, struggling to shoulder San’s dead weight, suddenly yelled out for Seonghwa.
Seonghwa appeared at his door almost instantly, startled awake by Yeosang’s panicked voice. Hongjoong stood motionless with his mouth agape, the box of popsicles that San had just handed him clutched awkwardly against his chest.
San came to fairly quickly once Yeosang and Seonghwa got him to the couch with his feet propped up on a stack of pillows, but for Hongjoong it felt like ages. He could hear Wooyoung crying, which came as a surprise to him. He hadn’t seen Wooyoung get out of bed. And then somebody in the washroom vomiting. Another surprise to Hongjoong. When had somebody gone into the washroom? When did he even leave the washroom for somebody else to go inside?
“Hyung!”
Hongjoong hadn’t noticed that he closed his eyes until they snapped back open at the sound of Jongho’s voice. He heard bits and pieces of what Jongho was saying and he could see Jongho’s eyes growing wider and wider with each passing second.
Hongjoong suddenly felt the wall against his back as his knees gave out underneath him. Jongho’s face, which was much farther away from him than it had been a second ago, seemed suspended in time.
Until he felt two strong hands cupping his face.
“Hyung, don’t close your eyes. What’s wrong?” Jongho’s voice was coming through more clearly now that he was seated.
“Sorry…” Hongjoong replied, trying his keep his eyes open at the very least. “I guess I got startled…”
Apparently he wasn’t very convincing, because Jongho’s grip on his cheeks tightened.
“Hyung don’t fall asleep!”
That confused Hongjoong. Of course he wasn’t going to fall asleep…
…but actually, maybe he was?
*~*~*~*~*~
“You’re a stupid idiot, you know that right?” Seonghwa huffed as Hongjoong shifted awkwardly in his bed, trying to will the daggers in Seonghwa’s eyes to focus elsewhere.
“Is San okay?” Hongjoong knew that Seonghwa’s lecture would be forthcoming but his concern over his dongsaengs needed to be assuaged before he could focus on anything else.
Seonghwa softened at that, taking a seat on the edge of Hongjoong’s bed. “He’s okay, Yeosang and Jongho are tag teaming getting him and Wooyoung to bed.” Hongjoong nodded, soaking in the relative silence before it was broken by a muffled gag from the washroom. Both Seonghwa and Hongjoong cringed at the sound.
“Yunho,” Seonghwa chimed in before Hongjoong even had to ask who it was. “Again.”
Hongjoong hung his head, irritated with himself for taking Seonghwa’s attention away from the others, angry that he couldn’t help take care of his younger members, and overall aggravated that he had managed to get this sick. He was about to send Seonghwa away when Seonghwa seemed to read his mind again.
“Mingi’s got him. Apparently the only thing that will get Mingi to come out of his room when he’s sick is Yunho being sicker.” They both let out a chuckle at that before Jongho appeared in the doorway.
“Wooyoung-hyung is asking for you, Seonghwa-hyung” Jongho said quietly, not wanting to disturb his hyungs, but he and Yeosang had been unable to get Wooyoung to settle down and they were growing concerned that he’d wake San with his whining. Seonghwa nodded, wordlessly stepping out with Jongho before popping his head back into the doorway.
“This conversation isn’t over Joong. Not even in the slightest.”
Hongjoong signed, sinking heavily into his pillows with a few harsh coughs. Of course it wasn’t.
*~*~*~*~*~
Seonghwa was frustrated. And tired.
And Wooyoung was frustrated. And tired. And sick.
Seonghwa wasn’t proud of the fact that he had more or less tricked Wooyoung into downing a dose of NyQuil. He knew that Wooyoung hated medication that made him feel drowsy. He didn’t like the way they made his head swim before they finally knocked him out. But when Jongho held the bottle up behind Wooyoung’s back with a questioning shrug, Seonghwa nodded, assuring Wooyoung it was only cough syrup in order to get him to agree to swallowing it down.
“Bastard…” Wooyoung slurred as he started feeling the pull of sleep.
“I’m sorry Wooyoungie, but you need to sleep. So does San” Seonghwa replied as he closed the door behind him.
So do I.
But he left that part out.
Seonghwa’s body was craving a nap. Now that the adrenaline rush that had resulted from San and Hongjoong going down almost simultaneously was wearing off and the exhaustion from his sleepless night at the hospital with Yunho was setting in again, he wanted - no - needed to sit down. For just a moment.
He didn’t even make it to the couch before he heard Mingi’s voice behind him, followed by a series of sneezes that made Seonghwa pray that he had covered his mouth.
“Hyung” Mingi croaked out. “Yunho…”
Yunho. Shit. Yes. The dongsaeng who was currently headlong in the toilet. His nap would have to wait.
Seonghwa found Yunho lying on the washroom floor with his head in Yeosang’s lap as Yeosang played with his hair.
“Mingi, you need to go to bed, jagi” Seonghwa instructed. Mingi lingered a moment more, meeting Yeosang’s eyes, who nodded and smiled lightly as if to reassure he’d stay with Yunho for as long as he needed. “Please keep the door unlocked, I’ll be in to check on you once I figure out what to do about this…” Seonghwa added, gesturing vaguely in the direction of Yunho and Yeosang.
Mingi nodded, closing his door but not locking it much to his hyung’s relief.
“His pulse is racing, hyung” Yeosang murmured as Seonghwa joined him on the floor.
Dammit, they really needed a bigger washroom. Or maybe he needed smaller dongsaengs. He wasn’t sure.
Gently taking Yunho’s wrist, he brought his focus back to the task at hand. Yeosang hadn’t been exaggerating - racing was the right word for it. There was a real possibility that Yunho had gotten himself dehydrated again after another round of vomiting.
“Jagi, take some deep breaths, okay? Yeosang and I are right here. You can relax” Seonghwa urged. Yunho nodded but took in only a few shallow breaths. “No, not like that. Nice and deep.”
“I know you know how to do it, hyung. I’ve heard you yell” Jongho said from the doorway behind Seonghwa. Seonghwa hadn’t heard Jongho approach but was relieved that his joke got a small smile out of Yunho, who had his eyes closed, trying to focus on his breath. “Put this on the back of his neck” Jongho added quietly, handing Seonghwa a wet cloth from the kitchen. “Give him a few minutes. His water bottle is almost empty. He’s just worked up and anxious, not dehydrated.”
Seonghwa nodded shakily. Jongho’s maturity never ceased to amaze him. Jongho once told him that it “came with the territory” as the oldest sibling. But Seonghwa always knew that it went beyond that. Jongho’s nerves were made of steel, whereas Seonghwa’s own nerves often felt like jelly in these situations.
Seonghwa carefully dropped Yunho’s wrist, turning back to Jongho.
“I hope you don’t mind but I changed the sheets on your bed with the lighter cotton ones. With Wooyoung-hyung in Yunho-hyung’s bed I figured that Yunho-hyung should crash in your room with Joong-hyung. I cleaned up our room and switched Wooyoung-hyung’s nasty sheets out for clean ones so you can sleep there” Jongho paused, allowing Seonghwa’s sleep deprived brain to catch up, then started again. “Yeosang-hyung and I will get Yunho-hyung up when he’s ready. I refilled his water bottle, it’s waiting for him on your bedside table. Now you need to go to bed, hyung. Yunho-hyung told us that you didn’t sleep last night at the hospital.”
“Jongho, no” Seonghwa interjected quickly, shaking his head. “I need to check in with Mingi…”
Jongho interjected immediately. “I’ll take care of Mingi. He doesn’t look like he’s quite ready to head back to bed anyhow” he said, glancing over Seonghwa’s shoulder toward Yunho, who had fallen asleep thanks to Yeosang’s soft touch and the cool cloth that had given him a few minutes of relief from his fever. “We should let him sleep for a few minutes before getting him to bed. He clearly needs it.”
“I don’t want you to get sick, Jongho” Seonghwa replied, desperately trying to stifle the yawn that threatened to work against him in this debate.
“Look around, hyung. I’m going to get sick. You’re going to get sick. Yeosang-hyung is going to get sick. But it’s going to happen a hell of a lot faster if you keep pushing yourself like this on no sleep.”
Seonghwa nodded. He knew Jongho was right. It was only a matter of time before the virus hit the three of them. The best they could do is delay the inevitable, and hopefully a little sleep would help that happen. He turned back to Yeosang, who was still carding his fingers through Yunho’s hair almost robotically at this point. Without even being asked Yeosang smiled sadly, flashing a thumbs up at Seonghwa.
Feeling reassured for the moment, he left Yeosang and Jongho to it. Sleep did sound pretty damn good right now.

Can you write about a feverish Yunho? 🐶
Sorry that’s so short. I struggle to write that since I literally had no ideas in mind. I hope it’s okay anyways!
-
It’s a sunny day, the birds singing outside, the sun is shining through the window, reflecting in the mirror that’s standing in the room.
A day that everyone would embrace and love.
But instead of doing that, Yunho rolled around in his bed. Wrapped in his fluffy blanket, having it slightly pulled over his head. His face is buried in his pillow. Eyes squeezed shut, trying to sleep. He doesn’t know if he even slept last night, all he knows is that he’s feeling exhausted. Limbs feeling heavy, he’s sweating a bunch even though he feels like freezing. He knows he’s sick, he admitted that to himself last night as he checked for a fever. It was only a low grade one but right now he’s sure that it’s not that low anymore. His head is pounding even more as he hears the ringing of his phone, knowing he has to stand up. But he can’t. No matter how hard he tries he just can’t. His body felt too heavy, weighing him down.
He managed to sit up but to what price..
The whole room was spinning, rocking his balance, it felt like he’s on a ship in the middle of a storm. Shit. He squeezed his eyes shut. He can’t help but to tighten his grip around his bed, trying to hold himself steady. He needs someone, but it’s hard to speak or even reach his phone. The fever is messing with him. Making his vision cloudy.
At that moment Seonghwa opened the door.
“Yunho! Stand up, it's already late!” He scolded.
Actually already one hour passed after he woke up but the sick boy didn’t manage to register that, too focused to hold himself up.
He can’t even react to the person calling out his name. He can’t seem to even make out who it is, only hearing a sofor voice over the ringing in his ears.
And Seonghwa? After the fifth time of calling out for Yunho and still getting no reaction out of him, he started to get really worried.
Not really knowing what’s going on Seonghwa slowly reached out to Yunho. Taking his hand and giving it a squeeze, scanning the youngers face. He noticed the flush on Yunhos face. Carefully he placed his hand on the younger one’s forehead.
“Oh no, You’re burning up” Seonghwa mumbled worriedly
“Come sit down first.” Seonghwa said, slowly taking Yunho down with him and sitting him on the edge of his bed. Seonghwa tried to speak to the younger, just anything to get a reaction out of him. To not use.
“Oh Yunho..I’m really worried about you.” Seonghwa whispered sadly as he wrapped his arm around the younger.
Finally Yunho could move a bit, he leaned his body closer to the older and pressed his face on the cool neck of the other. His hand softly squeezes Seonghwa’s.
“I don’ feel well..” he slurred. “dizzy.”
Seonghwa frowned, pulling him even closer.
“It’s okay, I will let the others know that the both of us won’t attend today's practice. I’ll take care of you, puppy.”
Yunho could only slowly nod. He’s too weak to give any good answer. All he wants is to sleep and for the dizziness to go away
-
After Seonghwa gave the medicine to the younger and he managed to ask for a free day to which their manager agreed he helped Yunho to lay down.
The older placed a cold washcloth on the younger's forehead and ruffled through his hair. over his arm in a comforting motion.
“How are you feeling?” Seonghwa asked while he caressed over the youngers arm in a comforting motion.
Yunho took a deep breath. Not daring to open his eyes. “The spinning isn’t as bad anymore but I’m cold...”
Seonghwa smiled softly “Let’s warm you up.”
The older laid down next to Yunho and pulled him close. Yunho cuddles up more into Seonghwa’s arm. In his feverish mind he placed a kiss on the older one’s chest. “Thanks Hyung..” he mumbled.
Seonghwa couldn’t help but feel embarrassed about it. Blushing slightly. He will definitely tease Yunho as soon as he feels better.
“Don’t get me sick too.” He giggled
“Noo.” Yunho pouted.
The older one smiled “Try to sleep now”. His hand moved up and down the younger’s spine.
He just hopes the younger would feel better in the morning…
