“Okay, okay. Wait. I got it this time.” You say, already trying to keep from laughing.
“Why were the kids having trouble in pirate class?”
Zoro only side-eyes you with his arms crossed, vehemently unimpressed.
“Because they were overbored!”
Watching for his reaction intently, you keep your eyes focused on his face... Nothing changes.
You tsk, but aren’t seriously discouraged. This is how he always reacts to your jokes, after all. “I’ll get you one of these days, Roronoa Zoro.”
The swordsman only sighs, leaning back into his seat to take a nap. “You do that.”
“Don’t listen to him, love.” Sanji says from the other side of the kitchen as he cleans the counter. “I thought that joke was good.”
“You’re lying, but I appreciate the sentiment, Sanji.” You grin at him. Focusing back on the book you were reading, you miss the amused, challenging look Sanji sends Zoro.
Everyone hears Luffy approaching the kitchen before he enters. “Guys!” He bellows. “We’ll be reaching land soon. Be ready to leave in fifteen minutes!”
The majority of the day is spent restocking supplies. You were all split up into pairs, but before you left, Luffy pointed to a restaurant with a flashy, illuminated sign on top that reads: ‘Bistro of Light’. How cringey of them.
“We should meet there for dinner! You don’t mind taking a break, right, Sanji?” Luffy asks eagerly, and you think that no one could say no to him when he’s so enthusiastic. Sanji nods, and you all go through the town until the sun starts to set.
The inside of the restaurant is just as ridiculous as the sign outside. Chandeliers of every color hang on the ceiling. Huge fish tanks and fountains lined with lights almost blind you. You laugh when looking at it all causes Zoro to wince.
“Hey Zoro,” You call for him. “You know what’s faster than the speed of light?”
“...”
“My heartbeat when I think of you!” You wink at him, proud of the joke even when he only sighs and looks away.
Usopp walks up to a receptionist standing behind a desk. “Hey. Table for six, if you would be so kind.”
“I’m afraid we’re at full capacity at the moment.” They respond. “You’ll have to wait, is that alright?”
Everyone shares a look. Except for Luffy, who looks dead set on eating here, you all feel unsure about waiting.
“When’s the next table going to be available?” Usopp asks. “We’re actually a really big deal. It’s gonna be really embarrassing for you guys if you don’t let us in.” The person frowns, face screaming, ‘is this guy serious’?
But before they can reply, a booming voice enters the restaurant. A tall man, dressed in a pristine white suit and wearing jewels on every finger, pushes you out of the way to yell at the receptionist. You stumble, but thankfully Zoro is there to catch you.
“What on earth is going on here?! Why are there so many people crowding the entryway?!” He fumes, angrily gesturing to your group.
“If they’re not going to eat, then I strongly suggest—” The rich man freezes suddenly, his eyes trained on you.
You keep your face as emotionless as possible, but you die laughing inside when Nami swipes a brooch from his jacket while he’s distracted with you.
“Ah,” The man says. His tone softening a considerable amount as he walks over to you. “I thought I had the best jewels in my treasury, but you're the most radiant gem I've ever laid my eyes on.” It takes everything in you to not back away. Zoro tenses beside you.
“Why haven’t these guests been guided to a table?” He asks, turning back to the receptionist.
“We’re at full capacity, Sir.” Oh. He must own the place. It makes sense that the owner is as gaudy as everything else in here.
“That won’t do.” He looks back to you, and you swear you could feel your skin crawl under his gaze.
“I am Helios. Welcome to my establishment.” The man introduces himself with a flourish, bowing to you. His jewels and gold accessories glint in the light. “What might your name be?”
Reluctantly, you introduce yourself. Had this been a normal situation, you would have turned around and walked away from him the second he saw you. But, you could feel the crew going hungry, and you’re sure Nami will want to snag another ring or two—so you play nice.
Helios smiles, repeating your name. He was probably trying to sound romantic, but he’s not doing anything for you. Not when Zoro says your name much better.
You keep Zoro’s voice in mind, remembering how nice it sounds. It’s easier to smile at Helios that way. Time to lay on the charm, “I was really looking forward to having dinner here. I don’t suppose you could help us out?”
“Follow me, my dear. You deserve to dine upstairs. The view is simply spectacular at this hour.” Helios holds out his hand to you, but Luffy—bless his soul—grabs it to shake it zealously.
“Thanks so much for letting us eat here, Mr. Helios!” Luffy claps him on the back. Helios looks dumbfounded, and the crew does an impressive job keeping their composure.
Helios tries to walk beside you as he guides you all upstairs, but Zoro is steadfast on your right, and Nami smartly positions herself on your left. Luffy and Usopp tug the restaurant owner along, chatting his ear off. You almost feel bad for him.
Nami murmurs, her voice carefully silent so only you can hear. “Treasury, huh?”
You smile. “Of course you’d be curious about that.”
“Think you could get us to his mansion?” She dares you, eyes aglow at the promise of a good heist.
“I know I can.” You pause walking to check your reflection on an ornate, sun-shaped mirror. After fixing your hair, you grin at your friends. “I’m irresistible, after all.”
Maybe if you weren’t busy buttering up your host, you would have noticed that Zoro wasn’t eating properly. Normally, you would force him to eat. You would pile food on his plate, telling that joke about fake noodles being impasta that always cracks you up.
Zoro frowns at the meal in front of him. The fish seems to frown back. Sighing, he decides to just order another drink. But no matter what he consumes, a bitter taste always blooms in his mouth afterwards.
The glass in his hand almost cracks when he hears your voice sucking up to Helios again. “So, you own this place? Do you live around here?”
Helios leans far too close towards you, but you grin and bear it. “Would you like a private tour, my gem?”
You place a hand on his arm, he may read it as affection, but you hold him so he keeps that distance. “That sounds wonderful.”
Zoro huffs under his breath. He needs another drink.
Thankfully, Helios serves good booze at his manor. Zoro almost didn’t want to drink any of it, but he needs alcohol in his system if he has to watch you flirt with this idiot so Nami can rob him blind. Whatever she steals better be worth all this, or else he might punch something. Or someone. Preferably Helios.
You share a look with Nami and give her an imperceptible nod. With that signal, she passes by and pretends to lose her footing. Wine seeps into your clothes, staining the fabric and sticking it to your skin. Did she really have to pick red wine? You liked this shirt.
“Oh, my dear!” Helios gasps. “You should get cleaned up. I’ll have my servants draw you a bath and bring you fresh clothes.”
“I’m so sorry, I should’ve watched where I was going.” Nami loops her arm through yours. “Let me help you with that.”
And so, with another fake smile sent Helios’ way, you rush with Nami to find the treasury.
“Be quick.” Nami says once you enter the luxurious bathroom prepared for you.
As tempting as the bubble bath is, you only take a few wet towels to tidy up. You step into the curtained area, about to strip when Nami holds out a hand to stop you.
“Wait.” She says, her tone serious. A teddy bear holding a rose is propped up on a shelf behind you. Tapping its eyes, Nami scowls before throwing the bear into the trash bin.
“A camera?” She nods. “Seriously? What a creep.”
You and Nami inspect the room. It’s not clear if there are other hidden cameras, but she stands guard in front of the shower curtains just in case.
“Hey,” She starts. “Did you notice Zoro acting weird tonight?”
You frown as you change into the dress Helios prepared. “What do you mean?”
Nami hums in thought. “He’s just…” A dumbass, she wants to say, but doesn’t. “He seems extra grumpy.”
That causes you to laugh. “I guess I should prepare more jokes for him when we get back.”
She winces. “...I’m not that sure he likes those.”
“Hm… Maybe not, but,” You pause to think. He may not laugh loudly as Luffy does, but he never shot you down for being bubbly around him. “Zoro would have told me to shut up by now if he didn’t, right?”
“Huh.” Nami says. “You got a point.”
You push the curtains aside, grinning at her. “Come on, let’s break into that treasury.”
“Of course, my gem.”
“Oh my god, if that sticks I’m going to be so mad.”
The treasury was a vault full of everything from jewels to ornamental weapons. Nami playfully crowned you with a diamond tiara, and she put on dangling emerald earrings that looked stunning on her.
After filling your bags and pockets with the most you can carry, you and Nami head out to find the others. You run into Usopp on the way back to the lounge.
“I see you two cleaned up well.” He jokes. “Luffy and Sanji are in the kitchen. I was just on my way there.”
“Where’s Zoro?” You ask.
“With Helios. You know him, still drinking.”
“We should leave soon.” Nami insists. “We risk getting caught the longer we stay.”
“Right.” You hand Usopp your bag, his eyes widen comically when he feels how heavy it is. “I’ll just go say goodbye, I’ll catch up with you guys later.”
Before you even enter the lounge, however, you hear Zoro speak your name. Are they talking about you? You press your back against the wall, straining to hear their conversation.
You almost wish you didn’t.
“She tells the worst jokes and doesn’t know when to quit it. Thinks she’s hilarious but she’s really not.” Zoro speaks in that deep voice that would usually be comforting to you—but his words now pierce through you painfully.
“What exactly is your relationship with her?” Helios asks, and Zoro is silent. It feels like your heart crumbles for every second he doesn’t answer.
You’re friends! You’ve been dreaming of more but, you’ve always been friends.
…Aren’t you? Doesn’t he think so?
“I don’t know.” Your heart fully shatters. What does he mean he doesn’t know? “She just sticks to me a lot. It can get annoying.”
“Well. That’s unfortunate, but it’s nothing to sob over.” Helios kisses his teeth. “I don’t care about her attitude. All that doesn’t matter as long as she has that pretty face.”
You wait for Zoro to say something. Anything. You want him to cut Helios where he stands.
But he doesn’t. The silence drags on. The air feels like it’s pushing you down, crushing your lungs. You have to get out of here.
You burst into the kitchen, trying your best not to cry. Nami immediately rushes to you, holding your shoulders to steady you. “What happened?”
Letting out a shuddered breath, you whisper, “You were right.” It’s impossible to think straight right now. “I want to leave.”
You look to Luffy, still shaken up. Your captain’s expression is serious as he nods. “Go ahead, we’ll get Zoro and catch up.” Not needing to be told twice, you head out the door.
Before she follows you, Nami hisses at Sanji, “Talk some sense into that dumbass, won’t you?”
The entire walk back to the Going Merry is silent. You’re grateful Nami doesn’t immediately press you for what happened, but you know that you should answer her questions. You finally get the words out in the safety of her cabin.
You sit cross-legged on the bed, and everything comes pouring out. “He called me annoying.”
“Zoro?” She asked, offering you a box of tissues.
“Yeah.” You sniff, taking the box.
“I’m sorry. That was fucked up of him to say.”
Unsure how to properly comfort you, Nami gets up and retrieves extra pillows from a storage compartment.
“Why don’t we have a girl’s night?” Nami asks, offering you a smile. It pulls a smile out of you too, the first one you mustered since Zoro crushed your spirit.
“I’d like that.”
Zoro is confused to find that you and Nami had left before them. Luffy gave Helios some lame excuse that you weren’t feeling well, but Zoro knew better. If you were really sick, the whole crew would be panicking and rushing to get to you.
He stares at Sanji and Usopp, trying to piece together what really happened. They both turn away from him, refusing to say anything.
In the next second, a maid rushes out, panting and screaming, “Mr. Helios! The treasury has been robbed!”
Fine. Answers can come later. For now, they need to run.
Once they’re back on the ship, Sanji follows Zoro into his cabin. He stares at the chef blankly, “Get out.”
“Did you do something?” Sanji leans against the doorframe, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Get out.” Zoro repeats, about to push him out of the room when Sanji speaks your name.
“She was upset. Asked to leave as soon as possible.” Sanji’s gaze is almost menacing, and his frown deepens when Zoro’s face falls. So, that’s what happened. You had heard him.
“Fuck.” Zoro groans, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
“Everyone noticed you getting bitchy over Helios.” Sanji notes “Did you confront him or something?”
Scoffing, Zoro sits on his hammock, the fabric dips under his weight. “It was something, all right.”
Wanting Zoro to explain himself unpromptedly, Sanji just watches him and lets the silence hang in the air. After a solid, suffocating minute, the swordsman caves.
“I called her annoying.” Zoro breathes out deeply. “I said her jokes aren’t funny and that she sticks to me a lot.”
“Man, that’s screwed up.” Sanji gapes. “I thought you cared about her?”
“Of course I do, but I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true.” Zoro defends. “Luffy’s the only one who laughs at her jokes, and she’s always by my side.”
Sighing, Zoro continues, “...but I never minded any of it. I learned to care for those parts of her a long time ago. I was only trying to get that shithead off her back.”
“You’re an idiot.” Sanji concludes. “You have the emotional depth of a sink, sometimes.”
Zoro, surprisingly, doesn’t insult the chef back. He stares at the wall, slouched and looking the most empty Sanji’s ever seen him.
“What should I do?” He asks. “How should I make it up to her?”
Sanji’s eyes light up, he beams and claps his hands together in excitement. Even if Zoro hasn’t heard it yet, he already dreads the chef’s suggestion.
“I have an idea.”
When you woke up the next morning, you had every intention of avoiding Zoro like the plague. It was still really difficult to look at him, the hurt you felt still stings your heart.
But unfortunately for you, he had other plans.
You’re gazing out into the sea on the forecastle deck when you hear a familiar set of heavy footsteps. You sigh. “I don’t want to talk, Zoro.”
“I’m not here to talk.” You turn to him questioningly, but you really shouldn’t give him the time of day. Wasn’t he the one who complained about you clinging to him?
You don’t say anything. Only glaring at him and hoping he sees how disappointed you feel. Zoro stands here, appearing strangely vulnerable. If you weren’t so hurt, you would have hugged him by now.
But you are. So he has to wallow in the awkwardness of the consequences of his words. He—wait. What’s that on his face?
“I…” Is he… blushing? “I’m sorry I wasn’t around in the past.”
You make a face and blink at him. What is he up to?
“...Can I be part of your future?”
That knocks the wind right out of you, your jaw practically falls to the floor. Did Roronoa Zoro just use a pickup line? On you? You can’t help but glance at your surroundings to check if the sky is still blue.
No—hold on. He can’t win you over just like that. He needs to explain why he said what he did.
“You said my jokes are the worst.” You grumble.
“They are.” Zoro looks straight into your eyes as he speaks. “But you’re one of the best things to ever happen to me.”
“You said I always stick to your side.”
He doesn’t miss a beat and answers earnestly, “You do. And I wouldn’t want you to be anywhere else.”
“…You said you didn’t know what our relationship is.”
That causes Zoro to pause, searching your eyes as if he’ll find the answer in them. “…I don’t.”
Oh, this impossible sword-brain of a man. Your lips quiver, and you realize you can’t fight back your smile anymore. “I love you, Zoro.”
His expression shifts from anxiousness to shock, relief, and a bit of something else...
“I love you, too.” Ah, of course. Love, that too.
Slowly, tentatively, he raises his arms, inviting you to an embrace. He’s adorable, looking a teensy bit nervous that you wouldn’t want to hold him. Giggling, you rush to him, wrapping your arms around his waist as he envelops your shoulders.
“I bet Sanji taught you to apologize with that line.” You murmur into his chest. “If you tell me another one…” Zoro cringes, his frame tensing.
“...I’ll give you a kiss.” His expression lifts, seriously considering it.
After a minute, Zoro clears his throat. You almost squeal in excitement.
“Roses are red, violets are blue…” A classic. This is going to be good.
“I’m sorry if I made you feel awkward, I just want to have dinner with you.” You gasp, squeezing him tighter.
“Yes! That was perfect.” Laughing, you reach up and hold his face to keep your promise.
You plant a sweet, short kiss on his lips. When you pull away, he’s looking at you like he would fight anyone for you. He probably would, if you’re being honest.
“You’re perfect.” He breathes, mouth against yours and then he’s kissing you again.
Hiding behind a pile of crates, the rest of the crew whoop and cheer. (Silently.)
“That was such a good line!” Luffy whispers.
“I still think he should have used the ‘I don’t speak angel’ one.” Usopp whispers back.
“What are you talking about?!” Sanji angrily, quietly mutters. “That was perfect because he apologized and delivered the line.”
“Shut it, you guys. I was right, he didn’t last a day with her mad at him.” Nami holds out her palm. “Pay up.” The others groan, handing her some berry. All’s well that ends well.

Aim to Tease
Your trembling fingers trace the scar weaving its way across his sturdy chest; enticing in its ambiguity, emitting a quiet aura of danger, dedication, strength.
A quivering doe in the claws of a deep-forest tiger; do you even have a chance?
----
You’re on top tonight, a position out of place, out of practice, for you and the swordsman.
Normally, he's the one who assumes control, his dominant presence asserting itself in every aspect of your intimacy. He's accustomed to being the one on top, guiding and directing the flow of your sex with a calloused, but steady hand.
You've often sensed his reluctance to relinquish that position of power, his desire to maintain control in all aspects of your relationship. It's not out of selfishness, but rather a need to maintain a sense of authority—a need to ensure that you never forget who holds the reins.
And yet, tonight is different. Tonight, he allows you to take the lead, to assert your own desires without interference. It's a subtle gesture, but one that speaks volumes about his trust in you, his willingness to let his guard down.
Even as you move with tentative uncertainty, he remains steadfast beneath you, his presence a silent reminder of his domineering tendencies.
His hands may rest lightly on your hips, guiding and steadying your movements, but it's clear that he's still the one in control.
In the flickering light of the candles, you catch a glimpse of his sharp, dominating eyes, a silent reassurance that his relinquishing of control is a choice, not a weakness.
----
Amidst the darkness of the night, it's the soft, flickering dance of the scattered candles that delicately illuminates your face, casting it in a warm, intimate glow. The window is cracked, allowing a hint of sea breeze to weave its way into the room, blending effortlessly with the sweet scent of melting wax.
You’re moving up and down on his length slowly, carefully, earning low groans of pleasure from the man beneath you. Each time you rise and fall, his eyes never leave yours. They’re sharp and lust-filled as he gazes up at you, a constant presence, as if guiding your every move with a mere glance.
The flickering candlelight casts a warm glow upon his features, accentuating the sharp angles of his face and the intensity of his gaze. It's a sight that both captivates and intimidates you, fueling your desire to please him in every way possible.
Mischief nips at your conscience, and try as you might to ignore its bite-marks, it’s far too relentless, bleeding and unavoidable, now.
You place your hands on Zoro’s chest before halting the movements of your hips, fully settling down on his cock, daring him to rise to the challenge.
His reaction is immediate, a subtle shift in his expression as your movements cease. His sharp gaze, previously clouded with ecstasy, narrows slightly in curiosity.
“What are you doing?” the swordsman rasps through gritted teeth, his voice tinged with both annoyance and intrigue.
"Stopping," you reply with playful defiance, crossing your arms and holding his gaze with unwavering confidence.
It's a simple act of rebellion, a test of his unparalleled authority and a challenge to see how far you can push him.
"Oh yeah?" he grins wolfishly, his eyes glinting with a primal intensity as his grasp tightens on your hips. His fingers dig into your skin with a possessive grip, a bruising assertion of his power.
"Yeah," you say playfully, a smirk playing on your lips as you bite down gently on the tender flesh.
His hands slide up to grip your waist firmly, his touch sending a jolt of anticipation coursing through your body.
"Stopping? That's fine," he snickers lowly, something new simmering beneath his eyes.
With a confident strength, he begins to lift you up on his length. The ease with which he handles you, as if you’re weightless, floods your cheeks with warmth, igniting a fiery blush that betrays your arousal.
“I’m not, though.”
With a sudden release of his grip on your waist, Zoro effectively drops you back down onto his length, impaling you with his cock in one swift motion. The depth at which his tip strikes your sweet spot is electrifying, eliciting an involuntary wail of pleasure from your lips and sending your senses reeling.
He raises you up again, sending a surge of anticipation coursing through your veins, your senses heightened in anticipation of the impact.
“Zor-” you begin to whine, but he slams you back down, his cock penetrating you with an unyielding force. You’re gasping for air, your body surrendering to the raw power of the man beneath you.
"You were saying?" Zoro interjects playfully, his voice thick with amusement as he interrupts your whine.
In this relentless dance of dominance and submission, you find yourself completely at his mercy; every lift and drop orchestrated by his strength and control, leaving no doubt as to who holds the power.
“Mmm, f-fuck, Zoro,” you mewl out, letting your head lull back as you allow the power-hungry swordsman to have his way with you.
“That’s what,” Zoro groans smugly, punctuating his words as he lifts and drops you once more, “I thought.”

-
You woke up slowly, the morning sun shining light in the otherwise dark room. Blinking away the sleepiness, you saw the bright red numbers of the clock reading 11:30.
You briefly recalled that it was Saturday so no work for you to do but you still didn't want to rot in bed all day. Slowly you rose from the bed just to be pushed down back to the bed by Zoro’s arm.
He intertwined his legs with yours, trapping you in them and pulled your body closer to his, your back on his chest and his arm around your body. Holding you like you were his human teddy bear or something.
“No moving,” he mumbled tiredly into your neck. His voice was deep and croaky from sleep.
The audacity of this man.
He’s always doing this! Wanting to cuddle and snuggle until both of your bodies are sore due to the immobility and you didn’t know where your legs began and his arm ended so trying to untangle yourselves just made your already aching body hurt more. You two ended up pretzeled together for what seemed like hours (and it probably was) was not how you wanted to spend your Saturday morning.
Don’t get you wrong, you loved cuddling with Zoro. You loved when he held you against his chest, feeling his heartbeat through your back and the soft rising of his chest. It made you feel safe and warm and loved. Protected in a way that was unfamiliar to you for so long.
But you were….sticky. Yea, sticky and sweaty were the best words to describe the state that you were from what happened last night. They were the best words to describe Zoro too. But before showering, you desperately needed some food. And maybe coffee. And to y’know, get out of the bed too.
“Zoro, let go,” you said in your best “I’m not playing around” voice though it failed miserably judging by the way he snorted at you.
He hugged you closer to his body and you felt him slowly relaxing, his body melting into yours becoming one. He wrapped around you, coo-conning you into his body.
“No, let’s just stay here a bit longer. Why mess up a good thing?” He asked, his voice muffled a bit.
You sighed and thought about the best way to deal with the situation. Usually, after some begging and bribing Zoro would let do what you needed to do. But that’s when you need to do work so he would be less willing to comply when there was no work for you to do. And you didn’t wanna beg to just lay in the house all day anyway. And really, you weren’t that sticky.
No, no, no you definitely were.
So you had only one option. Something where you two would both get what you wanted.
“Wanna shower with me?” You offered to him. You saw his eyes slowly opening, cutting you a look with a sly grin.
He chuckled and kissed your neck, “Oh really? And what have I done to deserve such an honor?”
“Being a clingy, stubborn bastard,” you answered dryly and frowned at him but you couldn’t help the smile that was starting to form on your face when he started to laugh at your comment.
He dragged you onto his lap, his fingers digging into your waist, “Oh, I'm being clingy? Stubborn? You act as if you don't like it. Stop pretending.”
You rolled your eyes at him but was still smiling because despite how absolutely annoying it was, he was right. You did like it.
You’ll never admit it verbally though.
“That a yes or no, Roronoa?” You asked again.
Zoro gave you a toothy smile and carried you to the bathroom, slamming the door shut.
Something tells you that you wouldn't do much cleaning though.

"zo—" you rasped helplessly and your voice felt like graters against his skin. your chapped lips, almost closed eyes, the wound on your stomach and your week, blood-stained hand on it. he couldn't even bear to look at you without wanting to breakdown.
"stop talkin, please." he clenched his jaw tighter, the sound of teeth against teeth jarring. and although he refused to look down at you, cradled carefully in his arms, he could hear the desperate heaves that rocked your body.
he picked up the pace, ducking under hanging vines and leaping over overgrown roots of ancient trees carefully, so, as to not hurt you. the ship should be two minutes away, docked at the edge of the island and chopper must be there. and chopper would know what to do. how to help you.
zoro had to just deliver you to chopper.
but with his poor geographical skills, he felt like he had been running for the past thirty minutes without finding the ship. and he was certain the ship was docked only 10 minutes away from where the fight was taking place between the strawhat crew and a local pirate crew.
"zoro—" you started again.
why were you speaking? DID YOU WANT TO DIE?
"—don't use up your breath. please." he panted, feet still working to find the ship. where was that goddamn ship?
"that side—" you winced as you pointed your arm in the opposite direction. you coughed, wincing again before whispering, "the sunny."
zoro's head whipped around to look behind him. and at once, he changed the course. running as fast as he could, he soon found himself at the rocky beach the ship had been docked at.
"CHOPPER!" the swordsman bellowed for the mini doctor as he climbed up the ship. the reindeer was peering over the deck and when he looked at your nearly passed-out figure, he yelped in surprise.
"she got stabbed." zoro explained as he carried you inside to chopper's makeshift office/operation theater. laying you down gently, they both looked guilty as you groaned and clutched your own hand on the wound tighter.
"i need to apply some anti-septic, clean the wound and stitch it up." chopper stated, eerily calm in the heat of the moment. "here—" he gave zoro a sterilized cloth from his cupboard, "—apply it to her wound. put pressure on the area, i need to go make the anti-septic really quick."
"you have to make it? how long will that take?" if the swordman wasn't scared out of his wits, he would be surprised at how desperate he sounded.
"five minutes."
zoro looked at the reindeer wide-eyed. but the reindeer ran off, presumably to make the said medicine.
he looked back at you, putting the cloth to the wound and gently pushing down. he knew how to make the bleeding stop, he had done this multiple time. what he hadn't done multiple times was see you so lifeless, so incredibly overtaken by pain.
"hey." he found himself saying softly. softer than he had ever spoken before, "hey, can you look at me? hear me?"
you nodded slowly and relief washed over him. atleast you hadn't lost all cognitive senses.
"just focus on my voice, okay?" he knelt down so that he was on your eye-level from the bed. his other hand gingerly took ahold of yours. mindlessly, he rubbed soothing circles on your skin. he repeated, "just focus on my voice. yeah, close your eyes. i'm here okay?"
you found yourself closing your eyes, relying solely on the darkness of your eyelids and his voice to guide you to safety. his hand felt like a familiar weight against your stomach, the kind of touch that will renew a dead man and get him climbing back from his grave. his voice was sweet, too sweet to be even called his.
"i—" he paused, rubbing your skin with the pad of his thumb, "chopper's gonna fix you up, you know. h-he always does. i mean you're stronger than this. you'd survive, right?"
he's not sure if he meant to ask it as a question. he was sure he had said it to sound reassuring. but somewhere in between him uttering the words and you hearing them, they had turned into a desperate, desolate plea.
your chest fluttered underneath him, your breath strained. the face he adored slowly scrunched up from the pain. and he found himself talking even more.
"focus on me, okay? just me." he steeled his voice. and his nerves. "you'd be okay. you know, you always said you'd make me mochi, you never did. you said you'd make sake flavoured mochi. is that even a thing?" he laughed despite himself. it was barely a laugh. a pitiful scoff maybe? it was not the kind of laugh that would fool you.
"uh— once you get better." he pretended to ignore the way your body seemed to go slack under him. he repeated, "once you get better, i'm gonna convince franky to make us fireworks. you love those. and- and nami. i'd convince that money-hungry witch to lend me some money so that i can take you out. we will go shopping. you always said you—"
why were you so awfully quiet? usually, you'd talk to the point where he wanted to cut his ear off. now, he wanted to her you. he wanted to hear you call him a moss-head like sanji and he wanted you to laugh when he yelled at luffy for doing something stupid. and—
"—hey?" his voice pitched higher, "please wait, chopper will be back yeah?"
but you didn't even shake your head a weak yes. his shaky fingers reached out to look for your pulse on your neck. it was there. feeble, but there. but for how long?
how long till he lost you?
his throat was closing up, he couldn't breathe. his eyes burned and he was sure he was gonna mark your skin with his own from the way he held onto your wrist.
why won't you talk to him? call out his name, god fucking dammit. nobody called his name the way you did. as if you liked the syllables enough to make a home out of them. nobody smiled at him the way you did. so sweet, too sweet for him. you were everything. even though he was just another wrecked, broken boy with dreams too big for his mortal body, you were everything.
"please," he clutched onto you like a maddening bastard, "please. just hold on, okay?"
but bile seemed to crawl farther up his throat every time you didn't respond. not even a slight glance. not even the movement of a pinky. his fingers checked for your pulse. faint, but there.
and he couldn't hold his words back. he called out your name in a desperate effort to awaken you. water blurred his vision and he blinked it away. his throat was scratchy. too scratchy. and where was chopper?
"i love you." he finally confessed, not thinking much of his words than the fact that he just wanted you to hear them. "i love you so much. i have for so long. i-it wasn't supposed to be like this. i- i was gonna take you out to explore some island. i would have bought you food and called you an idiot when you smiled at me. then— then." he paused, "i would have told you i loved you. you would have said nothing back. and i would have loved even despite that."
he called out your name, sobs racking through his body like accursed symphonies.
"move." chopper was back, in his hand was a ceramic bowl with a green, gooey paste. "go out. i'd call you back, okay?"
if chopped noticed the state zoro was in, he simply chose not to dwell on it. and if zoro had any residual doubts for what kind of a doctor chopper was, he didn't dwell on them either. he caressed your hand one last time and stepped out.
⋆.˚ ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚
the swordsman had been pacing around the deck. none of the members were back and it gnawed on his heart. what if they were hurt too? should he go back to see? but how could he leave chopper and you alone here? and what kind of a first mate was he if he cannot even save his own crew?
the world's greatest swordman be damned.
chopper stepped out and zoro looked at the doctor, frantic. chopper gave him a sigh and chased it with a smile, "she's okay."
zoro was not sure if it was the exhaustion, or the relief, or some other feeling his gut had concocted in him without asking. but he crashed down on his knees. his palms felt rough against his face and when he inhaled, he could smell dried blood on them.
"hey." chopper trotted towards him, keeping his paw on the green-haired man's shoulders, "she's okay, really. they missed any vital spots and she didn't lose a lot of blood. she will heal, okay?"
zoro couldn't do anything but just nod along. then, when he had the courage to look away from his hands. he looked at the doctor, finally muttering a faint "thank you."
the reindeer blushed at the compliment, "don't thank me. but you know, once she's better, you should tell her how you feel. this time maybe while she's conscious."
"chopper." the swordsman groaned.
the reindeer shrugged mechanically, "i won't tell anyone what i heard if you promise to take her out on that date."
after much deliberation— having to choose between humiliation at the hand of his crewmates when they discovered his crush or the humiliation from his crush when he finally confessed— he finally gave in. after all, humiliation from one was better than humiliation from seven. especially that fucking cook.
"fine." he grumbled, "i'd take her out."
⋆.˚ ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚
it had been two weeks since you were stabbed. well, you didn't talk to anyone about it, really. but when you drifted off into the wicked embrace of sleep, you would be plagued by the memories. and well, a confession.
it's not like you were pretending to be dead!! your body had simply given up. it was exhausted from the fighting and the not-dying. so, when you were laid on chopper's bed to be patched up, your body had gone slack. but just because your body had gone slack doesn't mean you weren't awake.
it had been two weeks and you hadn't told the green-haired asshole what you had heard. why? maybe cause you thought he would make the first move. or maybe because you weren't quite sure if he actually said those things or if you hallucinated it to dilute the pain.
eitherways, seemed like things between you and the mosshead were the same as they were before the incident. and you were really starting to consider the hallucination excuse. but then—
"hey." zoro quipped up as he came to stand beside you. it was cloudy today, the grey skies churning in anticipation of a storm. the winds were unkind and the sea was malevolent. beautiful nonetheless.
"oh hey." you turned and gave him a small smile. you shifted from one feet to another, pretending as if you weren't terrified of the route this conversation might take, "whats up?"
"uh—" he looked back for a spilt-second and you saw— from the corner of your eyes— chopper hidden behind a bunch of boxes, giving zoro his best death glare. zoro sighed, "so, uh, this is random, i think? but when we dock on the next island tomorrow morning. do like... do you want to go see some new sword-cleaning equipment with me?"
you shouldn't have laughed. but you did.
"what's funny?!" his eyes widened and his cheeks were dusted pink.
"no-nothing." you heaved, closing your eyes. "that's the best excuse you could come up with? sword cleaning equipment?"
"what do you mean 'excuse'? i need some equipment!"
"zoro." you forced open your eyes, your smile still frozen over your lips, "if you want to go out on a date with me, you should say that okay?"
his ears went red and he looked away. you were sure if the weather was quiet, you could hear his heart picking up the pace. clearing his throat, he finally asked, "who told you? chopper?"
"no, dummy." you reached your hand out, taking his calloused palm in yours. your thumb rubbed familiar patterns on his hand, "you did."
"me?" he snapped to look back at you, "me?"
you just gave him a grin, "this reminds me, i did promise you i'd try making sake flavoured mochi. i never did. but again, you said you'd ask frankie to make us fireworks and we're still firework-less. but hey, i forgive you if you forgive me okay?"
his head could have burst open from the sheer pressure on his brain but you continued, "but eitherways, what i really mean is that if you said i love you." you stepped a bit closer, "i'd say i love you too."
your hand let go of his and you chose to walk away, leaving him dumbfounded. when his senses came to him, he ran upto you, "YOU HEARD THAT ALL?!"
"all of it."
"ugh."
"heh, it was kinda cute."
"i thought you were dying, woman."
"in a way, we all already are."
"have you been hanging out with robin too much? god, kill me."
"god doesn't need to. you're already dying."
"i want to die faster."
you took his hand back in yours and pulled him towards yourself. pecking his cheek, you said, "no. we still have to go on that date. i mean, if you ever actually ask me."
the flustered mess that was rorononoa zoro just sighed. accepting his fate, he asked, "well, do you wanna go on that date or what?"
you snickered, "i'll think about it"
"do you live to annoy me?"
"maybe. but you love meee."
"i might change my mind after this."
but despite his words, his fingers stayed gently intertwined with yours. hey, maybe getting stabbed in the stomach wasn't all that bad? (jk, it was very very bad)

LOVER — RORONOA ZORO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
roronoa zoro + i take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover content: gn! reader
request a character and prompt for my spotify wrapped event here!
Tumblr media
dinners between pirate crews don’t usually occur since your alliances are fragile and you’re all prepared to fight at a moment’s notice. but given the collaboration between the strawhats pirates, the heart pirates, and the kid pirates, it’s safe to say that you’re all a bit more reassured that no one’s about to slice someone’s head off.
you accept another glass of wine from robin as usopp rambles on about how he took out at least thirty marines in your latest high-sea tussle. across the table, zoro snorts and gives you a dead-eyed stare that has you giggling behind your cup.
you and zoro have been dating for quite some time, having begun only a few weeks after you joined luffy’s crew. neither of you have been inclined to tell the rest of your friends in order to avoid merciless teasing as well as mitigating the damage should your relationship go south. if it does, only the two of you will know about it and stew over it — the least amount of risk, you both agreed.
franky glugs down another stein of beer, laughing jovially, “alright, alright, i’ve got an idea!”
“oh? and what’s that?” robin asks, resting a hand on her chin.
“let’s play a game. gotta spice things up!”
“hey!” usopp protests. “my stories are super spicy!”
“yeah, right,” kid snickers, “they’re also lies.”
usopp glares and is about to retort but franky beats him to the punch, saying, “truth or dare!”
“really?” deadpans law. “isn’t that for kids?”
“aww, you need to loosen up, cap!” shachi says, nudging law. “i’m down.”
franky says, “i’m sure everyone knows the rules. only thing is if you refuse to answer a truth or do a dare, you drink!”
luffy perks up. “yeah, alright! that sounds like fun! zoro! zoro! truth or dare?”
your boyfriend smirks. “dare. do your worst.”
“i dare you to eat one of your swords.”
zoro’s eyes nearly pop out of his head. “no way!”
“gotta drink then,” you say to him.
“not a problem.” zoro lifts his stein to his mouth and you watch with appreciation as his bicep flexes and bulges under the tight t-shirt he’s wearing. he easily chugs down his beer, wiping his lips with the back of his hand.
zoro dares sanji to throw out his collection of dirty magazines that he found under sanji’s bed; sanji asks nami who she would date if she could date any crew member (“ew, none of you.”); nami gets bepo to perform one of uta’s songs and bepo asks franky what’s the best kept secret he’s held from you all.
franky smirks at law and says, “alright, law, truth or dare.”
“truth.”
“if you could hook up with anyone on the deck, who would it be?”
law frowns at the question and you’re sure he’s going to drink instead but when he says your name, the ship erupts into chaos. nami and ikkaku elbow you, their grins suggestive and encouraging; sanji glares at law; shachi, penguin, and bepo gape; and kid and luffy howl with laughter. you sit there in stunned silence, your face on fire, and you can’t look at law.
you chance a peek at zoro and find that, in all the ensuing chaos, he’s nowhere to be found. you catch the door to the belly of the thousand sunny swinging closed and you immediately stand, heading downstairs. you ignore everyone’s questioning shouts in favor of searching for your boyfriend.
“zoro?” you call. “zoro!”
you wander the halls for a few minutes, checking the kitchen, the men’s quarter, the gym. you find him quickly, though, inside the energy room. he’s sitting on a crate, expression sour, and you plop down next to him. “you okay?” you ask.
“i’m fine.”
you study him — his profile, the slope of his nose and the sharpness of his jaw, the way the low light of the room makes his tan skin look golden. you sit quietly with him for a few moments, listening to the engine of the ship run. zoro holds himself rigidly, unnervingly still, but you can feel the irritation rolling off of him, can still see the tension in his body.
you reach over, brushing your hand against his brow to smooth out the furrow. he looks over at you, still scowling but a little less intensely now. you say, “i’m guessing what law said bothered you.”
he shrugs. you sigh, “it’s just a game, zoro. i’m sure he didn’t even mean it, probably said the first name he thought of.”
zoro grunts derisively, “he definitely meant it. look at you.”
you can’t help the pleased feeling the rushes through you but you don’t let it show as you let your hand fall to his shoulder. “it’s just a game. doesn’t mean anything.”
“yeah,” zoro says. there’s a beat and then he says, “i hate hidin’ this.”
“really?” you can’t hide your surprise. zoro’s the one who initially brought up keeping this from everyone.
“i’m sick of it,” he says. “sick of the fuckin’ love cook always saying shit to you. i hate when guys flirt with you and i can’t fuckin’ do anything because the rest of the damn crew is there and luffy’s makin’ me watch his scarf down twenty plates of roast beef.”
you snicker at the memory, which pulls a small smile at of zoro. you rest your head against his shoulder and he mutters, “hate that the fuckin’ doctor said you.”
“we could tell them, you know. i think it’s okay now.”
“yeah?”
“yeah,” you say. “i’m, like, super in love with you so you’re stuck with me.”
zoro snorts, “yeah, yeah. love you too.”
“are you ready to endure all the teasing from franky, robin, and nami?”
“for you, yeah.”
you tilt your head up and kiss his jaw. zoro grins, leaning down to catch your mouth with his.
When you break apart, you ask him, “I would’ve placed money on you going to the gym. Why’d you come here?”
“Oh. I got lost.”
Tumblr media
“You two okay?” asks robin as you and zoro resurface. the game seems to have finished and everyone’s back to drinking and chatting, though they all turn to you when they hear robin.
“yeah, we’re good,” you tell her. “we actually have something to tell you.”
“what is it?” nami asks.
“we’re together,” zoro says. “have been for a while.” and then, unexpectedly, zoro’s arm wraps around your hip and pulls you close.
the ship erupts into the chaos again with you and zoro in the middle. somewhere among all the yelling and gasping, law taps your shoulder and apologizes, which you wave off with an easy smile and zoro gives a firm nod.
nami shakes her head. “i can’t believe you two kept this from us!” and then, she turns to you. “zoro? really? you could do so much better.”
you wind yours arms around zoro’s waist, crushing him in a sideways hug. “nope, i don’t think so. he’s all mine!”
nami gags and robin smiles calmly. “i’ve always known.”
you and zoro stare at her. “what?”

kiss count ? r. zoro. ᧔♡᧓

pairing: roronora zoro x crewmate gn! reader
syn: you decide to ask zoro a silly question- one he still has not answered to this day.
word count: 717.
Tumblr media
“what the hell.”
you heard from the green haired man beside you, causing you to roll your eyes in advance. the four of you were patiently waiting for ussop to make a decision after luffy excitedly asked him to join his crew. of course, he couldn’t choose without some pained goodbyes from his beloved kaya, the two of them suddenly locking lips in front of all of you. you glanced at grinning nami, and a confused luffy with a puzzled look on his face.
“he knows that i’m the captain, right?” luffy asked, pointing at himself.
“let em have this one.” you heard nami say, before luffy started to question the pair. you chuckled turning to the side to face zoro, your eyes meeting for a quick second, his orbs boring down into yours before he turned to look away.
“what? never seen two people kiss before?” you mumbled in annoyance, jabbing zoro in the stomach with your elbow, failing to get some sort of pained grunt from the man. but, you did get him to stop complaining.
“shut up.” he uttered, allowing a scoff to exit your mouth, the two of you staring at the smiling couple ahead. until, a silly assumption popped up in your head.
“hey mosshead,” you spoke, trying to get his attention. he replied with an annoyed “what”, eyeing you from the side.
“have you ever kissed anyone?” the sole set of words was enough to get the man beet red, his attention focusing on you quicker than ever, a scowl present on his face. you swore you saw his nostrils flaring.
“what the hell? what kind of question is that?” he replied, looking almost embarrassed. you did your best to hold in a laugh.
“damn, is "what the hell" your reply to everything?" you mumbled under your breath. "no need to get defensive, it was just a question!” you raised your hands, shaking your head. zoro eyed you, still irked by the sudden ask, as a smirk formed on your lips.
“a question that you didn’t answer…” you continued, tapping your chin. “so, then does that mean, that the roronoa zoro hasn’t kissed a single person in his life at all?” you grinned at the man before you, whose ears were burning red, eyebrows furrowing at your statement. he opened up his mouth only to shut it closed, unsure of what to reply. his silence was enough of an answer for you.
“ha! so it’s true!” a teasing look took over your features, you poking at his toned bicep continuously, glancing at his three swords. “what a loser.”
having enough of your playful antics, zoro gripped your arm and harshly tugged you towards him, the two of you now facing one another.
“alright then,” he finally spoke, tone deep as you noticed the way his flexed biceps were almost about to rip out of his t-shirt. raising his eyebrow, he opened his mouth.
“have you ever kissed anyone, y/n?” and your smirk widened. but before you could reply to the brazen man, luffy called out to you guys to get on board the going merry, his voice cutting the tense atmosphere into a thin slice of bread.
turning your attention back to the swordsman, all you did was lazily shrug in reply. suddenly, you leaned in dangerously close, your plump lips almost touching his chapped ones. zoro froze, immediately cursing you in his head due to the close proximity while still keeping a hardened expression on his face. you caught the way his eyes flickered down to your lips for a split second, the action engraving itself in your memory. you were definitely going to tease him about it later. but for now…
“i guess we’ll have to find out.” you whispered, your breath tickling his own. all zoro could hear in that moment was the clicking of your heeled boots against the wood as you backed away and  retreated from the scene before the fazed swordsman could utter a word. of course, you couldn’t leave without slyly blowing him a kiss.
“since you’ve never gotten a real one before!” you yelled with a grin before strutting away onto the newly sailed ship. zoro shook his head, feet finally able to move out of the warmed space, the once tight air suffocating his chest now dispersed into the salt water below the docks. oh, he was definitely going to get back at you for that.

Clingy - Zoro x gn!reader (fluff/drabble)
Tumblr media
It was one of those rare nights when the two of you had watch duty together. You both had a sort of unspoken agreement to make the most of nights like this. Of course, you did have to look after the ship, but the one time the crew was actually attacked at night the attackers were so weak that Robin and Franky, who were on watch at the time, had taken care of it and nobody even knew until morning, so you weren't too worried about potentially getting attacked.
You sighed in contentment as you strolled along the quiet moonlit deck. It felt refreshing to not have to deal with all the daytime noise of the crew. What with Sanji and Zoro constantly bickering, Luffy screaming his lungs out for whatever reason and Nami scolding the lot of them, it often left you quite exhausted. It was a nice break to see the deck so calm, you thought to yourself as you approached the helm.
Suddenly, you felt a pair of strong arms wrap around your waist. "You're so clingy," you laughed as you leaned comfortably back into Zoro's chest.
Zoro rested his head in the crook of your neck. "I can't help it," he replied grumpily. "We never get any time alone together."
You laughed again, this time giving him a quick peck on his head. "I know... I've missed you."
This seemingly made him even clingier, as he flipped you around to face him, holding onto you even tighter. He mumbled unintelligibly, face buried in your shoulder. Then, suddenly, he stooped down and hoisted you up by your legs, tossing you over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. You gasped in surprise. What was this man doing?
You voiced your thoughts. "Zoro, what are you doing? Put me down."
"Nope. We're going up to the crow's nest for some alone time."
"Wh-what?!", you sputtered, feeling your face heat up. He was never this forward.
He sputtered himself. "Not like that, you idiot!", he half-shouted, before quieting down a bit. "I just meant... we can hang out there for a bit."
Content with that, you let him carry you up the rope ladder hanging down the mast. One you were at the crow's nest, Zoro set you down gently on the floor of it. "I'll be right back," he said quietly, not making eye contact. Was that a light blush on his cheeks?
After a few minutes, he returned with a small pile of blankets under one arm. He handed you a blanket, which you took, and sat next to you. Soon, you noticed he was acting rather strangely. In the five minutes you two had been in the crow's nest, he hadn't spoken a word and seemed closed off. He had been staring off into the distance the entire time. Did he not want to be here after all?
You looked at him. "Something wrong?", you asked. "If you're uncomfortable-"
"No," he interrupted. "No, I'm not." Then, more hesitantly, "...this is nice." He turned his head to look at you. You couldn't see very well in the dark, but you could've sworn he was blushing. That's when the realisation hit.
"Oh my god." You could barely believe it. The big strong Zoro, to-be greatest swordsman in the world, behaving like this with you? "Are you being shy?"
This seemingly made him blush even harder, as he quickly looked away with a scowl. "Sh- shut up," he stammered, refusing to make eye contact with you.
"It's okay," you chuckled. "Take your time. I won't push you. We'll go at your pace."
He looked at you, still blushing, and gave you a hint of a smile. "In that case...", he said, then wordlessly opened his arms. Happy to accept the offer, you shuffled closer to him and pressed yourself into his side.
"Is this what you meant by 'alone time' earlier?", you asked, grinning.
"Maybe," he replied quietly but cheekily.
You don't know when you fell asleep. But when you woke up, crimson sunlight was peeking over the hills in the distance, and Zoro was snoring next to your ear. You slept through your watch duty. You quickly got up and looked around the ship from above for any signs of an attack or a burglary. Thankfully, there were none.
You sat back down next to Zoro, who was still fast asleep, and sighed happily. This was comfortable. You were surrounded by people who cared for you, resting next to the man you loved, on the ship you called home. You could stay here forever.

As the once familiar shore grew closer, you felt a pit in your stomach deepening. The island approaching had been a home for you for some years, but by the time you left, you had been certain you would never want to return. All of those fond memories of a new adventure on a once unknown island, were tainted by the same person who had brought you there in the first place.
Feeling eyes on you from the crew you let out a soft sigh.
"I thought you used to live here, why do you look so miserable? I thought you would be glad to be back."
You glanced at Nami as she spoke before you shook your head softly, "I left for a reason."
"What reason?"
You looked over at Zoro as he spoke, your heart palpitating. How would he react if you told the story? Would he care at all?
He studied your eyes and you remained silent, as you debated if you should tell the story now, later, or never.
"Did you get in trouble?" Sanji asked with curiosity.
"Did you get kicked out?" Usopp asked with a mouth full of popcorn.
Before you could answer Luffy stood up and smelled the air, "Do you smell that?"
You finally looked away from the others before you nodded, "Seafood gumbo, the islands most famous dish."
Stepping away from the railing you left the previous asked questions unanswered as you prepared to dock the ship. You reminded yourself you were only stopping for supplies, you'd only be here for a day or two. You might not even see the reason you left the island in the first place.
Or so you hoped. Surely fate wouldn't be so cruel, right?
The familiar sights and smells engulfed you as you walked through the market with Zoro. The others had wandered off looking for various supplies. Why Zoro stuck by your side, you weren't sure, not that you were complaining. You and the broody swordsman had grown close recently.
A few people even recognized you as you passed stalls. It felt good in a weird way, if it weren't for the lingering pit in your stomach.
"Well, you aren't hiding, and people aren't exactly trying to chase you off or arrest you. So I would assume you didn't leave the island because you did something bad."
"Good observation skills." You said with a hint of sarcasm, earning a soft smile from Zoro.
You knew he was asking what happened, without actually asking what happened. You let out a soft breath.
"I moved here with someone. We were young and wanted an adventure. I thought he was my future, but to him, I was just one option of many. He cheated on me, lied to me, used me and embarrassed me, so I left. "
Zoro's hand softly twisted around the hilt of his sword. "Sounds like a catch."
You scoffed before stopping at a stall with the islands local fruit. You gently held one in your palm, reminiscing of the flavor you once loved. Zoro watched you closely, wondering if the pain you felt here still lingered, or if it was strictly resentment.
Hearing your name called from nearby, you and Zoro turned to see a tall man headed towards you, surprise in his eyes and a smirk on his lips. Zoro eyed him as your stomach twisted.
"Speak of the Devil." You muttered, just loud enough for Zoro to hear, causing his grip to tighten around his sword.
"Well, well, well, look who came back." The man grinned as he stopped just in front of you. His eyes raked over you and Zoro felt his jaw clench in anger.
"Well, well, well, look who never left." You countered, in a similar condescending tone.
He continued to smile, but you saw a small twinge of the eye you knew as a familiar sign of annoyance.
"To what do we owe the honor of your return?"
"You don't need to know." Zoro broke in, causing your ex to finally look over at the swordsman.
He looked Zoro up and down with a soft smirk. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't notice your bodyguard here."
Zoro took a small step closer, his eyes piercing. "Well now you do."
You saw your ex swallow hard, as he tried to keep his composure, not used to anyone not backing down from him. You couldn't help the smile that graced your face as you saw Zoro's actions.
Reaching out, you gently grabbed Zoro's arm before giving your ex a hard look.
"Like he said, you don't need to know why I'm here."
Leaving the fruit stall behind, you walked away, Zoro kept an eye on your ex before moving to follow you.
After a few moments you side-eyed Zoro, "So, you're my bodyguard now?"
Zoro's lip curled slightly, "I guess I am."
Tumblr media
Zoro sighed with contentment as he set down his half empty glass. The people in the bar chattered and laughed around him.
His mind kept wandering to you and the story you felt you couldn't share. The thought of how your ex had treated you caused his gut to twist. He couldn't help but wish he had known you before, he could have saved you the pain of being with someone like your ex. And instead, been with someone like him. Whisked you off on a better adventure and all that. He couldn't help but wonder if you would have gone with him.
Hearing an obnoxious laugh come from across the bar, he did a double take as he spotted your ex.
"Speak of the devil." He muttered, repeating your words from earlier.
As if your ex felt Zoro's eyes burning into him, he noticed Zoro and smirked. Zoro smiled softly to himself as he tapped his fingers on the table, watching your ex saunter across the bar towards him, clearly having had more than one drink beforehand.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't Y/n's body guard."
Zoro rolled his eyes as your ex sat down across from him. "So where are they?"
"Where's who?" Zoro asked, voice low, as if daring him to say your name.
He smirked, taking the challenge. "Y/n. I'd love to see them again. We have a lot we could reminisce about. Hell, maybe we'd even strike up that old flame again."
Zoro clenched his jaw as he leaned forward, palm wrapping around his sword, "Not gonna happen."
As Zoro stood up, your ex scoffed, "What, not even over your dead body?"
Zoro quickly finished off his drink and slammed the glass down before he looked at him, dead-panned, "No. But maybe over yours."
As your ex froze for a moment, Zoro began to walk away, but his chest burned with the need for more gratification. But how would you react?
"Sure you don't want to know all of Y/n's dirty little secrets?" Your ex said with a sing song voice as he stood up as well.
Zoro stopped in his tracks before turning back to your ex and smirking softly.
The cold sea breeze blew over you as you sat on the edge of the ship, staring out at the island. A weird sense of nostalgia sat over you as you both wished to stay longer, and to leave immedietely.
Hearing footsteps, you glanced back to see Zoro boarding the ship. His eyes were already on you and your heart fluttered momentarily. You looked back out at the city, hearing Zoro approach you before climbing over the bannister and sitting beside you.
"The bar still as lively as ever?"
He nodded, "Seemed like half the island was there."
You nodded with a soft smile your eyes moving to Zoro's hand as he held out something in front of you. Your heart jolted as you saw the familiar fruit you had been looking at earlier in the day.
You took it from him and smiled.
"It seemed like you wanted to get one earlier." He said softly.
You looked over at him but he avoided your eyes, staring straight off to the city. You smiled as you began peeling the fruit, before your eyes caught on fresh scrapes on the back of Zoro's hands.
"...Did you...steal this from someone?"
"What?"
You motioned towards his hand and he scoffed, "Would that make you feel better or worse about the fruit?"
You eyed him closely before shrugging as you continued to peel the fruit. "I'm grateful either way"
He smiled at this, but took in a deep breath, knowing you would press for more.
"So, what really happened?"
He looked down at his knuckles with a smile before clearing his throat. "There was a situation, but I handled it."
"Hmm. You tend to find yourself in a lot of situations."
He chuckled, "It's kind of my thing."
You nodded, "Can't find the trail of breadcrumbs you left behind, but you can always find a fight."
"What does that even mean?"
"It means you have a terrible sense of direction"
"I do not."
You pursed your lips with a soft glare and he sighed, before shaking his head, fighting a smile.
After a moment of silence, you hand him a piece of the fruit. He took it slowly before eating it, enjoying the sweet yet fresh taste. He nodded, showing that he enjoyed it and you smiled.
"This is one of the only things I missed about this island."
"One of?"
You hummed, "I admit, I had some good memories here."
"How many of them were with him?"
You could sense the hint of venom in his tone and you repressed a smile. "None that come to mind." You said softly, noticing the way Zoro's jaw seemed to relax, yet his hands clenched.
"Zoro?"
He slowly looked over at you and almost froze at the soft look on your face.
"Yeah?"
"What happened to your hand?"
He swallowed, "I hit it on something."
"On what?"
"Your exes face."
There was a moment of still silence before you pressed your lips together, biting them, as you clearly repressed a laugh.
Zoro felt relief and amusement wash over him as you let out the soft giggle that you could no longer repress.
"Your not mad then?"
You thought for a moment before you shrugged, "I am mad but not because you hit him."
He frowned, "Then why?"
You looked over at him with a straight face. "I'm mad because you didn't hit him while I was there to see it."
Zoro stared at you for a second before both of you broke into grins. He chuckled as you giggled before letting out a sigh.
Zoro shrugged his head. "I mean...I could go pick him up off the bar floor and bring him over here if you want. "
You laughed again and Zoro grinned, relishing in the sounds as they made his heart pound proudly.
Handing him a slice of the fruit you grinned, "Tempting."
He smiled softly as he ate it, "You know it doesn't matter what you left behind here right?"
You tilted your head slightly in question. "Why not?"
He cleared his throat briefly, "Because what you have now is more important. It's better."
Your eyes locked and you could feel the tension growing.
You smiled softly as you nodded. "Yeah, it is."
He gazed at you softly, his mind running wild with a thousand things he wanted to say. His thoughts were silenced when Sanji came sauntering from the kitchen to announce that dinner was ready.
Looking back to see the others quickly heading in, you began to rise. But before you did you quickly pressed a kiss to Zoro's cheek, causing him to freeze.
"Thank you."
Your whispered voice echoed in his mind as his cheeks burned from the brief kiss. His heart was pounding as he looked behind him seeing your back disappear into the ship.
Getting a hold of himself, he rose and headed inside. Not so subtly kicking Usopp out of his seat beside you. Sharing a brief yet knowing look with you as he did.
Tumblr media
As Zoro and Sanji loaded on a few more boxes of supplies you took one more look at the island in front of you. You were glad you were leaving, but at the same time, you wondered when you would be back next.
Your eyes caught onto a figure walking towards you and you let out a sigh, just loud enough for Zoro to glance over at you. He spotted the same thing and rose with a huff of air.
As Zoro appeared beside you, his arm pressing against yours, you felt your tense shoulders relax as your ex sneered at the two of you.
His lip was busted, and he had to matching bruises under each eye.
"New look? It suits you."
"I was thinking the same thing." Zoro mused.
Your ex looked between you and Zoro before his eyes paused on you. You shook your head softly.
"Nothing you could say is a good idea, trust me."
He hesitated a few times before giving in with a huff of air and a roll of his eyes as he turned and sauntered back down the dock.
"Who was that guy?" Usopp asked.
"No one important." You said softly.
Feeling Zoro's eyes on you, you glanced over at him. "Still regret coming here?"
You hummed softly as you looked back at the village seeing your exes head disappear into the crowd.
"No, not really. Besides, I got a good memory to leave with."
"Just one?"
You smiled softy as your eyes locked, "A couple."
He smirked as he scanned your face, "We'll make a lot more."
"We?" You mused your heart fluttering.
"Yeah. We."
Feeling someone sling their arms over your shoulders, you looked back to see Luffy's grinning face. "Yes we will!"
You paused for a second as you locked eyes with Zoro before letting out a laugh, and Zoro chuckled before shaking his head.
As Luffy began talking animatedly about the next stop, you felt Zoro's hand brush yours at your side, before he gently squeezed it.
No matter where you came from or left some heartbreak behind. Your next adventure would make it all worth it.
xx End xx

Tumblr media
Your happiest years were when everyone was together.
Those were the days you’d sneak out of your lessons to go play in the training grounds. You’d find your best friends arguing about something or other, fighting with wooden swords and chasing each other around.
Kuina and Zoro did their best to include you in whatever game they were playing. You found it all good fun, even if you were mostly being rescued or hidden away somewhere. The proud smiles on their faces when they saved you always made the wait for them worth it.
“Why do I have to play the bad guy?” A young Zoro whines, frowning deeply with shoulders slumped. His wooden sword hangs lazily in his hand, pointed to the ground.
Opposite him, Kuina’s blade was up, stable and correct with proper posture. “Because we agreed I would save the princess today!”
You remember sending Zoro a small smile, trying to reassure him, “You can save me next time, Zoro. I promise.”
Zoro complained, but gave his all acting as a bandit out to rob you. You and Kuina would run into the meadow—hands held in each other’s—squealing and laughing. You’d always end up collapsed together; among the grass and the flowers. They would cheer and scream into the sky, happy that the great knights protected their princess once again.
But that same meadow is now covered with a blanket of melancholy. The colors aren’t as vibrant as they were back then. Flowers no longer bloom like they did. The children’s laughter has been replaced by a deafening silence.
Everything changed when Kuina died.
She was hit by a stray arrow, they said. They called it a tragic accident.
More sadness only seemed to follow after she was gone. Zoro left without a word, abandoning his training, and you along with it. Your mother, Queen Florentia, passed due to an illness a few months after that. In a blink of an eye, you lost everything back then.
The large doors to your chambers slam shut, breaking you from your train of thought. The thud echoes into every corner before fading into noiselessness once more.
A maid rushes in, completely out of breath and practically stumbling towards you. “Your Highness!” She gasps. Waving a hand, you gesture for her to calm down.
“Selma,” You pour her some water in a glass. It’s strange to see your personal maid so distressed. “What did you find?”
Practically inhaling the water, she places a hand over her heart before explaining, “You were right, Your Ladyship. The commander informed me that several knights had poison hidden in their quarters.”
Her eyes trail to the glass she’s holding, then to the pitcher. Selma’s face becomes appalled as it sinks in that you had poured her a drink. You cut her off before she can make a fuss about it.
“Never mind all that.” There are more pressing matters than decorum right now. “What else did Mihawk say? Have the knights been apprehended?”
“No, my Lady.” Selma retrieves a transparent vial from her pocket. “The commander said there's a chance the poisons were planted. Trustworthy men could have been framed… He discourages you from trusting any of them at all.”
The vial is small, barely larger than your thumb. To an untrained eye, it looks like nothing is there. You hold it up to the window, letting the sun’s setting rays shine through the glass.
There it is. A near-invisible, lavender sheen in liquid. The queen regent’s signature poison.
“Damn it all.” You sigh, falling into an armchair.
It’s common knowledge that most of the people are loyal to Queen Regent Cassiopeia. Not to you, the rightful heir to the throne.
Ever since she took the position after your mother’s death, she’s been doing everything in her power to discredit you. Though she's not in the official line of succession, her goal is to become queen by any means necessary.
You’ve only been able to hold on for so long because there are still people loyal to your mother, like Commander Mihawk. However, it will take only one slip up for your standing to collapse. Cassiopeia knows this, and you suspect that she plans to completely ruin you at the upcoming knighting ceremony.
On a paneled wall in your room, encased in an ornate golden frame, hangs a portrait of Queen Florentia. The gold reminds you of the gilded dagger she gave you as a child.
Subconsciously, your hand moves to rest over your pocket; where the dagger is hidden under your skirt. What would your mother have done in this situation?
You scan the painting as if the image would respond. It doesn’t, but your eyes settle on the necklace she’s wearing. It was her most prized possession, and she had promised to give it to you when you were older, but it’s sadly lost to time.
The vial grows heavy in your fist. Your mother would stop at nothing until Cassiopeia is defeated, so that’s what you’ll set out to do.
“Selma, get me some ink and parchment.” You order, feeling more determined. “I have a plan.”
Tumblr media
Dracule Mihawk burned the note as soon as he finished reading it. Your idea was brilliant, if only a little complicated to execute.
Cassiopeia will demand you choose a personal knight during the ceremony. Assuming all the knights are loyal to the queen regent, none of them would be a safe choice.
So, you asked Mihawk to hire a skilled fighter to pose as a knight. Someone whose loyalty cannot be bought. Immediately, he knew who to recruit. Though he warned you that you might not find the man… agreeable.
“I don’t care.” You replied stubbornly. “I can’t afford to be picky. Just make sure that he won’t kill me in my sleep.”
Mihawk muses that he might be killed by you in his sleep. Because in a shady, run-down tavern, he sits beside a familiar green-haired swordsman nursing a drink at the bar.
“Fancy seeing you here, commander.” Zoro spits out the title in disgust.
“It seems that some things never change.” Mihawk hums. “You’re still in the same place as you were when we last fought.”
“And your legend ends with you kissing up to that false queen.” Disappointment practically drips from his tone.
“And here you are,” There’s an amused glint in the knight commander’s eye. “...still not able to beat me, Roronoa Zoro.”
Zoro’s jaw clenches in frustration. He breathes out deeply, “What do you want, old man?”
“Join my knights.”
Scoffing, Zoro can’t believe his ears. Is this guy serious? “I’m no knight. Not anymore.”
“Are you sure about that?” Mihawk tests. “The princess needs someone not easily dissuaded.”
At the mention of you, Zoro freezes. He squints at the commander as it dawns on him, “You don’t serve that Cassiopeia bitch.”
“Obviously.”
“But why did you become commander only after Queen Florentia died?” Zoro asks. “Everyone thought you were bought off.”
“That’s besides the point.” Mihawk hisses. “I know you’ve been wanting to make it up to the princess. I’m giving you a chance to do that on a silver platter.”
Zoro stays quiet, eyes watching the alcohol ripple in his glass. He’s not drunk enough for this discussion. And he meant what he said, that he’s not a knight. That dream died with Kuina, and he chose to pursue less honorable ways to become stronger.
It’s funny how Mihawk, who was an outlaw, traded his jacket for a suit of armor. And now, he's trying to act righteous. But some things are just—
“It’s not too late to change things.” Mihawk attempts to persuade him, calmer this time. “Something tells me you’ll regret it if you don’t.”
Shaking his head, Zoro can’t believe this man is talking like he knows him. “What do you know about regret?”
When the commander doesn’t respond, Zoro turns to see Mihawk’s face, a grave expression marks his features.
“I know far too much, I’m afraid.”
Zoro studies him for a moment longer, curious as to what he meant—but he doesn’t dare ask. Only an idiot would test Dracule Mihawk.
This master swordsman, whom he’s looked up to for so many years, has changed drastically. Perhaps everyone has. It makes Zoro wonder how much you might’ve changed in the years he’s been gone.
You. He’s—there’s so much he wants to say. So much he wants to ask… but does he have the right to?
Who is he kidding? He doesn’t.
And yet, Zoro can’t help but wonder if he passes on this opportunity and regrets it, would he spend the rest of his life wishing he could make up for it?
After downing his drink, Zoro slams the glass on the bar counter.
“What do I need to do?”
Tumblr media
Selma assists you with your hair and makeup on the day of the ceremony. She’s practically buzzing as she flutters around you. It’s nice that she’s still enthusiastic about things like these, even when dangers lurk in the shadows.
“You look stunning, Your Ladyship!” She gushes, adjusting the different layers of your dress so that it falls on you perfectly. “A vision, you are. Just like Queen Florentia.”
“Thank you.” You respond gratefully, despite not feeling as sure and confident as your mother was. Would that change, if you were to become queen?
A knock sounds on your door. Selma rushes to answer it, and lets Mihawk into your chambers. He steps in, but remains by the entryway.
“You look lovely, princess.” The commander bows to you in greeting. “I was instructed to escort you once you’re ready.”
Nodding, you approach him and hold onto his arm. “Let us be on our way.”
Keeping your face carefully neutral, you whisper to Mihawk under your breath, “Will you really not let me know the knight’s name? How am I supposed to know who to appoint?”
“You’ll know.” Mihawk pats your hand reassuringly. “Without a doubt, you’ll know. I just hope you’re not too hard on him.”
You side-eye him. “He’s not a convict or something, is he?”
Mihawk presses his mouth shut. This bastard, is he trying not to laugh? “You might actually prefer a convict over him.”
That pulls a frown out of you that you cannot contain. What on earth is that supposed to mean? Is the man that bad? How are you supposed to mentally prepare with such vague warnings?
All thoughts of the mystery knight fade into the back of your mind, however, when you and Mihawk make your entrance at the throne room.
The extravagant hall is decorated to the nines. Flags of different family crests hang from the ceiling. Flowers bloom at every window sill. You smile at it all, at your people—but it fails to reach your eyes. It’s difficult to truly smile when Cassiopeia stands dangerously close to your mother’s throne.
You curtsy when you reach the steps, one hand still on Mihawk’s arm as the fabric of your skirt dips onto the floor. You hear murmurs of approval from the ministers in the front row, pleased to see the good relationship between the princess and queen regent.
But they don’t see through your gloves, how your grip on your skirt is tense and far too tight. They don’t see how Cassiopeia’s smile is truly a smirk when you lower your head to her.
“Lovely to have you here, darling.” She says, and you fight the urge to laugh. ‘Lovely’ would be if she accepted her place and let go of her greed.
Mihawk guides you to the smaller throne on the left. This has been your seat since you were born. If Cassiopeia had her way, it would be your seat until the end of your days.
She glides to the center of the dais, the train of her excessive dress flows like a river after her. She stands; graceful, powerful and smiling—but she will never be happy until she can sit on the throne and wear your mother’s crown.
Whatever it takes, you will find a way to stop her.
“Welcome to the long-awaited knighting ceremony.” Cassiopeia addresses the audience. “It is an honor to have the kingdom’s finest pledge to serve and protect us.”
The ceremony proceeds to speeches from several dignitaries. Mihawk delivers a short yet intense declamation about the knightage being the greatest honor; and hands the queen regent an elaborate, bejeweled sword.
“These warriors before us today are hereby called forward to receive Knighthood. The kingdom will forever be grateful for your service.” Cassiopeia proclaims.
Attentively observing the knights lined up, you keep an eye out for the one Mihawk recruited for you. One at a time, Cassiopeia announces their name before tapping their shoulders with the ornamental blade.
You grow restless as the line dwindles. Frustrated, you throw questioning looks at the commander’s direction. He skillfully avoids your gaze. The nerve.
When only about five men are left, you begin to study them all and weigh your options. Perhaps you should pick someone with a smaller build, so that you can have a better chance of escaping? You also spotted someone who appeared clumsy. If you were to outsmart him, your odds of surviving weren’t so bleak.
But then—dramatically, as if in slow motion—the great doors to the throne room opened with a loud, booming sound. Everyone turned as light poured into the hall.
A swordsman makes his entrance. His armor is unassuming, but the three blades at his side demand attention. He wears a helmet over his head, but even after so much time, you’d know those eyes anywhere.
Mihawk was right. You would have preferred a convict—or maybe some rogue, or a thief who would rob you blind. You would have preferred anyone over Roronoa Zoro.
You thought you’d never see him again, but he’s here, marching towards the end of the line. You gape at him, feeling too many emotions all at once. Why is he here? Why now?
Mihawk intercepts Cassiopeia before she can question Zoro’s identity. “Forgive me, queen regent. This young man ran late due to an errand I sent him out on.”
How brilliant of him. Cassiopeia hates unexpected interruptions, but would never express her frustrations openly with so many people watching.
It’s amusing to see her grin and bear it. “That’s… quite alright, commander. I’m glad he made it before the end of the ceremony.”
When only Zoro remains to be appointed, you stand and call for the queen regent’s attention.
“Should he accept, this man shall be my personal knight.” You declare as Zoro’s gaze meets yours.
“What of your decision, knight?” Cassiopeia asks. Zoro nods, and the queen regent’s gaze sharpens. She understands that something is amiss, but passes the decorated blade to you without a word.
Back when you were children, you used to dream of this moment together. Kuina and Zoro would kneel before you on the grass beneath a shining sun, pledging their unwavering loyalty as you tap their shoulders with a stick.
You’re no longer children, but as Zoro kneels before you now, you still feel like a child all the same. Your clothes feel too big. The throne room is too vast; the ceiling too high. The sword is too heavy in your hands as you raise it.
“Roronoa Zoro. I hereby dub thee into the honorable order of knights as my chosen protector.” The blade lands on his shoulder—his right first, then the other. You pray to the stars that no one notices your hold quivering.
“Arise, Sir Zoro, and be recognized.”
You’re no longer children, but you’re still here. Playing a different sort of game.
Tumblr media
Mihawk, the wise man that he is, makes himself scarce after the ceremony. You’re left to awkwardly journey back to your chambers with Zoro in tow. He doesn’t speak a word the entire time, but you can feel his eyes burning a hole through the back of your head.
Selma is there when you get back, your usual afternoon refreshments prepared. She approaches you, but stops short when she sees Zoro.
“Leave us.” You tell her. She obeys, albeit reluctantly—looking back over her shoulder more than once as she exits.
After the door closes shut, the outside world feels a million miles away; making the air feel tense. You hastily take off your gloves, the fabric suddenly feels constricting against your skin. Every fiber of your being wants to scream at him.
Roronoa Zoro. Your best friend who had left all those years ago. You don’t even know where to start.
Maybe throwing something at him will make you feel better.
You throw one of your gloves. The fabric hits his chest before falling pathetically.
“Seriously?” Zoro frowns at you, unimpressed. You throw the other one. It meets the same fate.
Grumbling under his breath, Zoro takes off his helmet. It vexes you how you subconsciously hold your breath until you see his face.
You huff skeptically, “Why are you here?”
“Mihawk said you needed help.” He answers with a shrug, causing his armor clink.
After a breath, he speaks cautiously, “I didn’t know things had gotten this bad.”
“How could you have known?” You bite back, “You left, Zoro.”
In a sense, you understand why Mihawk chose him. You asked for someone who wouldn’t kill you in your sleep, and Zoro—at least, the one you knew—definitely wouldn’t.
Some (rational) part of your brain is telling you to keep quiet and accept his help. With Cassiopeia planning a mutiny, time is something you don’t have a lot of.
But your heart still feels angry and hurt when you see his—stupidly handsome—face. The years just had to treat him well, didn’t they?
“I’m thankful for your help,” You admit disgruntledly. “But I’m not happy about it.”
Zoro calls your name. It makes your heart ache a bit, but you hold a hand up to silence him.
“Please, just—I need time to process this, Zoro.” Turning away from the knight, your eyes find the window. The sunset paints the meadow in deep oranges and blues. It doesn’t make you feel any better.
“...We’ll talk tomorrow.” You promise, your tiredness evident from your tone.
Zoro lingers, hesitating. But he doesn’t push you. You hear his armor shift as he bows before he leaves.
Tumblr media
That night, Zoro stands guard outside your door. It’s good that no one else is around, it allows him to think in peace. About you.
The last time Zoro saw you, you were a small thing, getting dirt on the edge of your skirt. When he saw you today, sullying even the path you walked on felt like a crime.
He knew you would be mad. He had prepared himself to be yelled at. Maybe he thought you would cry. How much you went through didn’t really sink in until he saw how exhausted you were.
All the things he wanted to say, every apology and excuse, fade into nothing. The first thing he wants to tell you is how thankful he is that you’re still alive. It doesn’t matter that you stay mad at him forever, he’ll protect you for just as long.
Footsteps sound through the dim hallway. Zoro rests a hand on his blades, ready to fight back anyone who poses a threat. A knight he’s not acquainted with approaches, his steps staggering just a bit. The man carries a bottle of alcohol.
“Hey! New guy!” The stranger bellows. “This ’ere is a little something we prepared for ya, since yous didn’t eat dinner with us.” Zoro makes a mental note that they’ve been watching him.
“Take it, take it.” The knight tries to shove the bottle into Zoro’s hands. At the last second, Zoro spots a knife the man hides behind his back.
Quick on his feet, Zoro jabs the man’s neck, causing him to stumble. The knight charges at him, but Zoro effortlessly dodges. Grabbing the knight’s shoulder, Zoro slams his head onto the stone wall.
The bottle clatters to the floor as his opponent collapses, looking up at him in fear. Picking up the glass, Zoro sniffs at its contents. It’s laced with some sort of sedative.
Zoro pries the knight’s jaw open before pouring the drugged beverage into his mouth. The amber liquid spills. The man coughs, gurgling and struggling in vain until he slumps onto the ground.
Observing the bottle inquisitively, Zoro shakes his head before dropping it again. What kind of amateurish attempt was this? Is the queen regent testing his skills?
If anything, all this managed to do was—Zoro starts, turning to your door in alarm—…divert his attention.
Not a second later, he kicks down your door. The elaborately carved wood falls from its hinges, dust clouds billow once it crashes on the previously spotless tiles of your room.
You’re fighting off three large strangers clad in black, a dagger in your hand. Zoro tries not to think about how your eyes softened in relief when they landed on him as he cuts down one of the intruders. Maybe you still care for him a little.
“Took you long enough!” Or not.
“I’m here now, aren’t I?” He grunts back, slashing his sword at someone charging towards you. Zoro only realizes the deeper meaning to his words when you make a face.
“Don’t make being late a habit, Zoro!” Stabbing an intruder’s side, you quip at him, “You and your dramatic entrances, I swear.”
Zoro bites back a grin. He missed you more than you’ll ever know.
After taking down one of the intruders, you hide in your wardrobe as Zoro deals with the rest.
It would be smart to lock the door. Barricade it, so that no one can get to you on the off chance Zoro is defeated. But you don’t. You keep the door ajar to watch everything unfold. The way he fights is a captivating sight.
Look at him. Your knight in lackluster armor. Protecting you like how you always talked about as kids. He’s wielding two blades, one for each perpetrator still standing. You blink in surprise when you make out the third, sheathed blade. Kuina’s.
The more you examine him, the more you see how different he seems. He carries himself more confidently, unlike that boy who whined about roles, responsibilities and challenges.
You also see how gruff he’s become. He’s grown stronger, for sure, but you get the sense that he’s closed himself off from the world. Perhaps the years weren’t as kind to him as you'd thought.
The last intruder lets out a pitiful cry as Zoro knocks him unconscious.
“I’ll tie them up and let Mihawk deal with them in the morning.” Zoro says, pausing to breathe for a moment before dragging the men out by their feet.
Emerging from your wardrobe, you become dismayed at the sight of your room in such a state. “Did you really have to kick down the door?” You groan.
Surprisingly, Zoro blanks, appearing sheepish. “...I didn’t know it would break like that. I just—you should get a damn better door.” He mumbles, heaving the doors up and resting them against the wall outside.
When he comes back from restraining the intruders, he stands before you awkwardly—like he doesn’t know what to do when he’s not fighting or cleaning up bodies.
No one says anything. You both just take each other in, not completely recognizing the person that looks back.
You don’t feel so angry at him anymore. When all’s said and done, everyone has different ways of dealing with grief. Your heart only grows conflicted, wishing you had been there for each other instead of being apart. Goodness knows you could have used someone by your side. You’re sure he did as well.
“I—” Zoro falters. “...I’m glad you’re okay.”
‘Okay’ isn’t how you would describe your current state, but you nod anyway.
“You too, Zoro.”
Tumblr media
In a secluded alcove in the royal gardens the following afternoon, you invite Mihawk for tea on the pretense of thanking him for your newly sworn knight. The story that spread was that you would have been done for were it not for Zoro. You don’t want to think about how true that might be.
“The queen regent is furious you were able to secure a knight loyal to you.” Mihawk informs you as he helps himself to some pastries. “We should avoid meeting for a while, lest she suspect anything of me.”
“Alright.” You agree. “Selma also informed me that we can gather statements from mistreated staff.” You show Mihawk a list of names. “If enough of them support us, and if we can prove Cassiopeia orchestrated what happened last night… We can take her down.”
“She will be busy attending a gala this evening. I’ll make sure no one is near her office while she’s gone.” Mihawk turns to Zoro, who is standing guard behind you, sending him a fearsome look. “Those men got a tad too close last night—”
“Mihawk.” You warn him to drop it. He doesn’t.
“Ensure that it doesn’t happen again, young man.”
“It won’t.” Zoro replies icily. The commander only huffs in response.
‘It won't happen.’, he said. But trouble finds you when Zoro steps on a tripwire in Cassiopeia's office. Arrows soar, launching from scattered, hidden contraptions. Zoro shoves you into a bookshelf, covering your frame with his.
“So much for her not finding out we were here.” You remark sarcastically, waiting for him to step back.
But then, as they cage your head, Zoro’s arms tense up. His expression contorts in discomfort.
“...Zoro?” Raising your hands, you cradle the sides of his face.
“Damn arrows,” He growls. “I think they’re poisoned.”
“What?!” You gasp, ducking under his arm to check his back. You find a wound where an arrow grazed his skin. “Of course you get injured when you don’t wear your armor.”
“Why don’t you try sneaking around in that thing, then?” Zoro argues, but you’re startled when the wound begins to bleed.
“We need to get you treated.” Panicking, you grab his arm and pull him along. He doesn’t budge. “Zoro, we should go.”
“No.” He refuses, hissing in pain all the while. “That bitch won’t let us find a way in here again. Let’s just be quick.”
“...Fine.” You cave, still worried, hating that he’s right. “At least stay still, search the desk. I’ll handle everything else.”
Zoro relents, opening every drawer and scanning every document in them. You turn your attention to the shelves, trying to find hidden compartments or anything that looks remotely suspicious.
It's not long before a loud crash makes you wince. Zoro found something.
A panel beneath the desk detaches, revealing an ornate box. Studying it, you hum, “It looks like we’ll need a key.” Zoro unsheathes one of his blades, cutting through the lock until it cracks open.
You shake your head. “Or we could do that, sure.”
However, instead of the nefarious plans or blueprints you were hoping for, you find old papers. All of them yellowing with age.
“It’s your handwriting.” Zoro points out, picking up the first document.
“What?” You lean in, reading the file over his shoulder. It’s a letter written to acknowledge a transfer of money. But the amount is astronomical, and you don’t remember signing anything of the sort.
“Look at the date.” Pointing to the corner, it reads more than ten years ago. And then it clicks, “My mother wrote this.”
“There’s more than one.” Zoro sifts through the papers, counting over ten.
“All of them are addressed to… Shimotsuki Koushirou?” He reads the name slowly. You look at each other, confused. Why would Queen Florentia be sending payments to Kuina’s father?
A tall longcase clock chimes to signal the hour. If you clean up now and review the evidence later, you can make it look like you were never here. You instruct Zoro to pack up the box.
“We should head out soon.” You say, moving to pick up the arrows scattered on the floor.
“Be careful.” Zoro reminds you.
“I am.” You show him that you’re holding the arrows by their tail ends. “You can go ahead, if you want. Get that wound treated.”
“Do you really think I would leave you?” You can’t help the incredulous look you send his way.
“...Forget I said anything.”
Tumblr media
Back in your chambers, you twirl an arrow you decided to keep as evidence while examining the documents sprawled out on your carpet.
Zoro grabs it from your hand. “I thought I told you to be careful with that.”
You think aloud as he sets the arrow to the side, “I just can’t figure out why my mother gave Koushirou so much money.”
“Maybe she felt bad about the accident.” Your swordsman suggests. “We all did.”
“But why did she have to keep it quiet…” Mumbling in thought, you read the last receipt Queen Florentia signed. It had been penned the week of her death.
The sky grows darker, and it becomes more difficult to see. Zoro strikes a match to light a few candles, bathing the room in a subtle, warm light.
Beneath the dim, flickering flames, the sharp arrow on your tea table glints ominously.
It took you a long while to get over spacing out whenever you saw an arrow. It was one of the things that affected you after Kuina’s passing.
Sometimes, you think of how much better everything would be if she was still here. If it weren’t for that—
…accident?
“Zoro?” Your voice is unsteady, “...What do you remember about Kuina’s death?”
“It was some new guy at the training grounds.” He answers, frowning as he recalls what happened. “He misfired, and his knighthood got revoked after that.”
“But,” Memories come flooding back as you try to piece things together. “If the archers were practicing that day, what was Kuina doing in the grounds?”
“Kuina wasn’t in the grounds.” Zoro corrects you. “She was in that meadow we always went to.”
He points to the view outside, raising a finger to trace the horizon. “The arrow flew through the fence, but it was really dangerous, even—”
Zoro turns back to you with wide eyes. “Even the queen was almost hit! Holy shit, she was there to observe that day.”
You blink at him in disbelief, “My mother was the real target.”
“And she didn’t want the culprit to know she realized, which is why she kept quiet about the money.”
You collapse into a chair as you run your hands over your head. “Did anyone ever check the arrow for poison?”
“No.” Zoro’s face crumples. “She was hit straight in the heart... She wouldn’t have made it even if it wasn’t poisoned.”
“Oh, Kuina…” You choke back a sob, covering your face with both hands. “I’m so sorry it took us this long.”
“Wait.” Zoro calls out your name, taking your hand and kneeling in front of you. The strength of his grip hurts, but you don’t mind it. You need to feel that he’s with you right now; especially when his next question makes your heart fall through the floor.
“How did your mother die?”
“She—she got sick. A lot of our people got sick that year.” You answer shakily, not liking where this is going. “Do you think…”
“Queen Florentia could have been poisoned.” Zoro whispers. “And I bet that fake bitch was responsible for it. For Kuina’s death too.”
“That doesn’t make any sense.” You counter, “Cassiopeia deals with poisons, sure, but she wasn’t even in the kingdom yet then.”
“...Someone must have betrayed your mother so Cassiopeia could be queen regent.” He suggests, rubbing circles into your palm. “Because isn’t it convenient, how she was there to bring the people together after Her Majesty died?”
It’s confusing how the world seems to have slowed down, and yet your mind is spinning so quickly, you can’t process anything. You squeeze Zoro’s hand to anchor you, but you shatter all the same.
“I hate everything.” You cry, tears streaming down your face. “I hate how I didn’t know—but we were kids! How were we supposed to know? And, I hate feeling so powerless. What—how, are we going to fix this?”
“We’ll find a way, I promise.” Zoro moves to embrace your form, but you glare at him.
“You. I hate you too.” You push him away weakly, but he doesn’t let you go. “I—I hate that you left, Zoro… You have no idea how lost I was.”
His eyes glisten with tears. “I was lost without you too.”
Zoro feels you melt into his arms. Your strength just vanishes, and you slump forward until your forehead touches his.
“...Don’t leave me then.” You whisper. You beg.
He holds your cheek, wiping your tears with his thumb. “Never.”
The last thing you remember before falling asleep is Zoro pressing the softest kiss to your temple as he tucks you in bed.
Tumblr media
Selma barges in the next morning, slamming the (newly repaired) doors open. As you rub the sleep from your eyes, you’re starting to feel sad for the abuse your doors have been going through lately.
“Princess! Your Ladyship! Your Highness—” She stops abruptly, covering her mouth, looking scandalized. What is she so flabbergasted by—
Only then do you see Zoro sleeping on the floor beside you. He’s leaning on the bed, using his forearms as a pillow. One of his hands is intertwined tightly with yours.
“Your Highness!” Selma gasps playfully, gesturing to your mother’s portrait. “Right in front of Her Majesty!”
“Selma,” You sit up, letting go of Zoro’s hand. “Did you have anything important to report?”
“Ah!” She exclaims, face becoming worried once more, “The commander has been imprisoned!”
You curse, shaking Zoro’s shoulder to wake him. “Couldn’t you have told me that first?”
“Forgive me, princess. It’s not everyday I see you holding hands with a man. May I ask who confessed first, Your Highness?”
“Oh my god, Selma.” You groan. “Just go prepare my clothes.”
“Shall I dress you, or will Sir Zoro—”
“Selma!”
If Zoro heard any of Selma’s ramblings, he’s excellent at hiding it. You both get ready in record time. After which, he leads the way to the dungeons; careful to make sure you don’t run into anyone.
“We can sneak him out through that secret passage we used to play in.” You whisper, your knight nods.
“When we get to him, break the lock with your dagger. I’ll stand guard in case someone comes over.”
But someone already beat you to Mihawk’s cell. Zoro pulls you into a shadowed corner to hide.
The queen regent paces in front of the bars, her extravagant dress and cape out of place in this gloomy dungeon.
Mihawk is on the ground, his wrists chained with heavy shackles. Yoru is noticeably missing from his back. Seeing him like this is heartbreaking.
“I should have known you’d help that wench.” Cassiopeia sneers. “You’ll regret not siding with me soon enough, Dracule.”
“Now that you’ve found me out, I can finally ask you to stop calling me that.” Mihawk yawns. “My name always sounded revolting in your voice.” Crazy bastard, will it kill him to try to stay alive?
“But Florentia called you that, didn’t she?”
Zoro squints at how something about Mihawk changes at the mention of your mother. It’s almost imperceptible, but the air shifts dangerously. The queen regent should watch her mouth.
“Her name sounds revolting in your voice too.”
Cassiopeia scoffs. “You’re just like her. Thinking you’re better than everyone else.”
“Aren’t you talking about yourself?” Mihawk leans back, crossing his legs. “That’s not a good habit, Cassie.”
The queen regent kicks the cell. Mihawk doesn't flinch as she snarls, “I’ll deal with the princess and that knight... I’ll make you watch as the light fades from their eyes.” Gathering her skirt, her heels clack loudly as she stomps away.
As soon as she’s out of earshot, you and Zoro run to the commander.
“Mihawk!” You call out as you stab the lock with your dagger. It crumbles to the ground after a few strikes. “What happened? What did she charge you with?”
“Treason, apparently.” He shrugs, the chains holding him rattling together.
Mihawk goes on as you break his shackles, “This kingdom should be grateful we’re trying at all. We could easily leave them to their own devices—” You frown at him.
“...But of course, we won’t do that.”
Sneaking into the library, you regroup with Selma; who passes on vital information.
“The queen regent has the palace on lockdown. Everyone has orders to take you in.” She tells you. “But I’ve rallied the staff. We're going to plead your case to the ministers, Your Highness.”
“Thank you. Do you have my mother's letters?” She nods. “Good. Use them well. I'll make sure your efforts will not go to waste.” You say, giving her hands a firm squeeze.
“Where’s that fake queen now?” Zoro looks eager for a fight.
“One of the butlers said that the queen regent disappears sometimes, and no one knows where she goes.” Selma explains, passing you a note from her source. “There are rumors that she smells like grass when she returns.”
Mihawk lets out a disbelieving laugh, “She must be at the secret garden.”
“The what?” You ask. That sounds exactly like something you would have loved as a child, but why haven’t you heard of it before?
“It’s a place reserved for queens. Only crowned monarchs should be allowed in there, or even know where it is.” He says. “That woman truly doesn’t know her place.”
“Why do you know about it?” Zoro asks.
After a pause, the older swordsman deflects, “I’ve been called a queen once.”
“Mihawk,” You urge him to be serious. “Can you take us there?”
Before he responds, Mihawk looks at you with something you can’t fully discern, as if he’s recalling an old memory.
“Of course. It’s your birthright, after all.”
The entrance to the secret garden is hidden in a passageway beneath the greenhouse. You imagine your mother walking along this path, to a sanctuary she could truly call her own.
But the vision darkens when you think of how Cassiopeia has been using the space all this time. You hope you're still able to recognize traces of your mother when you get there.
An iron gate stands at the end of the path. Vines tangle through the metal spirals and flowers. Mihawk holds a finger to his lips, carefully opening the gates without a sound except for the rustling of leaves. You all crouch behind a large plant that fans out, over your heads.
And then, you see it. You see what your mother left for you.
The centerpiece of the garden is an intricate pedestal, Yoru is propped up against it. On top of it, however, is a glass case displaying your mother’s most treasured golden necklace.
You almost want to run to it, but Zoro grabs your arm, warning you not to take another step. He nods towards where Cassiopeia stands in front of oddly shaped vials and strange devices containing diff chemicals. She douses a sword with an eerie purple liquid as she speaks.
“Three against one... That hardly seems fair.” She kisses her teeth. Looking over her shoulder, she glares. “Why don’t we fight on even ground?”
Out of nowhere, a large cage falls towards the three of you. Mihawk pushes you and Zoro out of the way, but isn’t able to avoid the cage himself.
“And I just escaped. What a shame.” Mihawk fusses, but you can see that he’s relieved you’re alright.
“Maybe you’re meant to be in a cell, Dracule.” Cassiopeia remarks. “I’ll have your kids join you shortly.”
There’s only one of her, this should be easy, right?
She throws a bottle at you. Luckily, you’re able to dodge it. The bottle shatters, its contents spilling over the bystanding greenery. The liquid turns out to be acid, burning through the foliage and leaving a smoky trail.
Well, fuck.
Zoro also seems to realize how serious this fight is. For the first time since you’ve reunited, he unsheathes Kuina’s sword, placing the hilt in his mouth.
You brandish your dagger as you yell, “Really? You bite it? What would Kuina say?” He sends you a look. You try not to laugh.
And in the next second, you charge at Cassiopeia together.
It’s difficult to get close enough to land a hit. The queen regent leads you in a dance of acids and poisons. You dodge one bottle only to be met with the toxic end of her blade. It seems that your mother’s dagger won’t be enough in this fight.
“I didn't get this far to be stopped by the likes of you!” Shrieking, she lunges at you.
“You will never be queen!” You roar back.
Behind her, your eyes spot Yoru leaning on the pedestal. The blade is large and intimidating, and you’re not entirely sure if you can wield it correctly… But you might not have a choice right now.
As you were distracted, Cassiopeia’s sword almost cuts through your side. Panicking, you stumble backwards. Zoro slashes at your enemy’s wrist. Her hold on the poisoned weapon falters. It plummets with a clang.
While she’s occupied with Zoro, you rush towards Yoru. From behind the bars, Mihawk watches, holding his breath as you wrap both hands around Yoru’s hilt—but the damn thing is too heavy.
“Dear princess, you should have learned from your mother!” Cassiopeia smashes a bottle on Zoro’s head. “Stop sticking your nose where it doesn't belong!”
The glass explodes into countless glittering shards. A red gas escapes into the air, and your knight inhales far too much of it.
He falls, and for that moment, the entire rest of the world vanishes until all you see is him. Your ears start to ring. His grip loosens on his swords.
No. Please. Not him. Not anyone else. No more.
Mihawk calls your name. You turn to him, on the verge of breaking down. But then, he nods once, slowly. The action reminds you to breathe—filling you with an overwhelming sense of strength. You can do this.
Screaming, you attempt to brandish Yoru again.
You swing the legendary greatsword in a perfect arc. Once it collides with the ground, the air ripples. Power surges through an invisible force headed straight for the queen regent. She tries to run, but the hit lands.
Her eyes don’t stray from yours as she collapses. In her final moments, she falls from grace, howling in agony and rage.
As a last ditch attempt, she throws one last vial of acid at Zoro. You’re about to curse the world all over again as you run to stop it.
Mihawk throws a tiny sword like a dart, miraculously breaking the container before it lands on your knight. Your knees give out, and you pull Zoro into your arms as you gasp for air.
It’s done.
Tumblr media
Zoro wakes up to the feeling of you checking his temperature. Your hand is warm against his forehead, making him want to reach up and hold it. He should probably wake up and check on you now.
“Oh.” He hears Mihawk speak, “I didn’t realize your relationship took a certain… turn.”
On second thought, another minute of sleep won’t hurt.
“Not you too, Mihawk.” You groan. “I get enough of that from Selma.”
“Ah, yes. I heard.” The swordsman deadpans, “Hand holding. How scandalous.”
“Alright, if you’re not going to be of any help whatsoever, please just go.”
“If you wanted time alone with him, you could have just said so.”
“Goodbye, Mihawk.”
Zoro hears you escort Mihawk out, and he takes the moment alone to open his eyes. He’s in his quarters, which is a few doors down from yours so that he can easily get to you.
Not that he stays here often, Zoro prefers standing guard outside your chambers. It’s strange how he lasted years without seeing you, because now that you’re back in each other’s lives, he becomes restless whenever you’re not around.
Like right now. What’s taking you so long?
The door opens. Zoro perks up, but deflates when he sees that it’s Selma bringing in a pitcher of water.
“You could’ve at least hidden your disappointment better, Sir Zoro.” She huffs at him, taking full offense. “I’ll go get your princess.”
“Oh!” She yelps excitedly, “My bad, it’s queen anointed now, isn’t it?”
Zoro smiles, his voice raspy with sleep, “That has a nice ring to it.”
“Indeed, it does.” Selma nods, bidding him farewell.
He doesn’t have to wait long to hear your rushing footsteps. The door opens again to reveal you, this time. Your eyes shine in that really pretty way they do when you’re happy. He’s glad that’s among the things that didn’t change.
Zoro opens his arms, inviting you, “Come here.”
Not needing to be told twice, you fall into his arms, burying your face in his chest.
“You’re okay.” You murmur.
“I wasn’t about to miss your coronation, Your Majesty.” Zoro pokes your nose. He did that a lot when you were kids, you forgot how much you liked it.
“Thank you for being okay.” Leaning down, you kiss his cheek softly.
Zoro brushes his fingers through your hair. He holds your face in his hands, tracing your features as if that will help him memorize the happiness he feels in his heart. The sort of happiness he thought was lost to him forever.
“Hey,” Zoro speaks your name with care. “I love you a lot, you know.”
He always envisioned confessing to you in some dramatic, elaborate way that you’d deserve. There could have been a beautiful sunset. He would’ve brought flowers.
But he was wrong. All he needs are the words themselves, and you—smiling the way you’re smiling at him now.
You laugh, “I might love you more, I think.”
Zoro shakes his head, sitting up so that he can bring his face to yours properly. “Doubt it.”
The kiss tastes like magic, like you were always meant to find each other's lips. His heart starts doing something funny, and he has to pull you closer—hold you tighter. You respond eagerly, kissing him back so intoxicatingly that he’ll remember the softness of your lips for as long as he lives.
Later that week, your coronation is a grand and extravagant affair.
When Cassiopeia's misdeeds came to light, the people banded together to celebrate her downfall. Those loyal to her either surrendered or tried to escape. Although none of them were able to get away, since Zoro and Mihawk were ruthless towards those involved in the attempted mutiny.
The crown on your head will take some to get used to. It still feels like you're borrowing something of your mother's; but instead of shying away from it like you had before, you step into it openly. You're ready to become a successor worthy to carry on her legacy of kindness and strength.
Uncharted these waters may be, at least you have Zoro now, who would dive into any perilous sea right after you.
Escaping the celebratory banquet and the revelries, you visit Queen Florentia and Kuina's graves with Zoro. It's only right that you pay respects together.
You leave flowers on your mother's headstone, thanking her for everything she did. You're startled when Zoro takes one of his swords, holding it in front of him as he kneels in front of the previous queen.
“Your Majesty, Queen Florentia,” He speaks, his tone steady and sure. “I, Roronoa Zoro, vow to never leave your daughter’s side. I will protect her until I draw my last breath. I swear to cherish her, and to love her even in my next life.”
What is he doing, making you cry like this? It turns out that emotional boy you knew is still somewhere in there. Your heart feels full, knowing your mother would have appreciated the gesture.
As you're about to move on to Kuina's grave, Zoro motions for you to go ahead without him. You look at him strangely, but do as he says to give him some space.
Mihawk emerges from the treeline when you've gone far enough.
“You look like you’re about to leave without saying goodbye.” Zoro remarks.
“Of course you’d know how that works, hm?” Mihawk challenges, raising a sharp brow. “Try even thinking about leaving and I’ll return to make sure it’s your last thought."
“Didn't you just hear the oath I made to the love of your life?” Zoro turns to Florentia's tombstone again. “Your Majesty, back me up here.”
“She would have approved of you.” Mihawk’s frown is unimpressed, but his gaze is unmistakably caring.
“...Take care of her, Zoro.”
“Of course. I promise.”
As Mihawk walks away, Zoro asks him one last question, “How are your regrets now, old man?”
The former commander’s shoulders shake in a mixture of amusement and relief. “I suspect they'll heal, with time.”
When Zoro catches up to you at Kuina's grave, you're grinning at him. He can picture that same grin on Kuina's face if she were here.
“We were just talking about you.” You jest, “All bad things, too.”
“You had nothing to talk about, then.” Zoro sits on the grass beside you. “I’m perfect for you.”
Appalled, you scoff and turn to Kuina's headstone. “Can you believe this guy?”
That day, you talked for hours, even after the sun had set. And on the trek back to the palace, a soft breeze caressed your skin. It felt like Kuina encouraging you, sending you off onto the next chapter of your lives.
Tumblr media
Zoro becomes Captain of the Royal Guard once Mihawk leaves. He's teaching you about weapons and self defense when he picks up your dagger to inspect it, turning it this way and that curiously.
“Is there something wrong with it?” You ask, observing it too.
“This pattern and material.” Zoro says, tracing a certain swirl on the weapon. “I feel like I've seen it before.”
“Ah,” He says in realization, tracing a finger down your neck and making you shiver. “It’s the pattern on your necklace.”
“My mother must have had them made together.” You say, unclasping the chain before handing it to him.
There's a gap in the center of the pendant. Thin and barely noticeable, but it looks like it can be opened by something sharp.
“Do you mind if I,” Zoro gestures at the dagger.
“Just don't break it.” You say. “Treat it like my heart.”
Zoro makes a face that pulls a laugh out of you. “I would never do this to your heart.” Aw. You might have melted a little.
The tip of the blade slots perfectly into the pendant. After twisting it slowly like a key, the metal clicks to reveal: a locket.
Handing it over to you carefully, Zoro lets you open it the rest of the way. Inside, there are images drawn on two panels. You, as a child on one side… and Mihawk on the other. Now you understand why your mother treasured this so much. Tearing up, you sigh.
“You’re not surprised.” Zoro notes.
“...I think a part of me always knew.” You respond. “And, I definitely felt something when I held Yoru. No wonder why.”
Treading carefully, Zoro wraps his arms around your waist as he asks, “You’re not upset that he left?”
“But he didn’t. He’ll always be there for me, and so will you.” You smile up at him. “I’m happy I found my family again.”
Tumblr media
Many years ago…
The grass on the meadow bristles gently in the wind. Dusk bathes the land in a dreamy, gold and purple hue.
After a day filled with imaginary adventures, two children wave their dearest friend goodbye. The princess smiles at them fondly before returning to the castle.
Kuina grins, face eager as she points her training sword to the sky. “I’ll be her knight someday. I’ll be commander and everything.”
Zoro jolts, immediately expressing in protest, “No, I’ll be the one to protect her! I’ll be commander!”
“Oh yeah?” The girl’s smile turns knowing. She pokes Zoro’s waist with her sword. “How will you do that? Aren’t you going to marry her?”
Stunned, Zoro can only stare at her in response. A blush creeps up his neck, reddening the tips of his ears. Kuina seizes the opportunity to make a run for it.
“Princess, wait up! Zoro wants to tell you something!”
“Kuina! Get back here!”

Not a Chance
As the celebratory atmosphere envelops the aftermath of the victorious battle in Wano, you find yourself nestled in a corner of the bustling banquet hall, the glow of lanterns casting warm hues over the scene.
It's a moment of triumph, shared among allies turned friends, but for you and Roronoa Zoro, it holds an added layer of complexity.
You and Zoro had been quietly dating, your relationship concealed beneath the veil of secrecy that he prefered. His private nature means that your romance remains known only to a select few, a fact that both frustrates and intrigues you.
But in moments like these, surrounded by fellow pirates and allies, the clandestine nature of your connection is put to the test.
Zoro, with his stoic demeanor and unwavering dedication to his goals, is a man of few words when it comes to matters of the heart. Yet, beneath his tough exterior, lies a depth of emotion that he reserves solely for you.
In quiet moments, away from the prying eyes of others, he lets his guard down, revealing glimpses of vulnerability that few are privileged to witness.
For you, being with Zoro is much like navigating uncharted waters, thrilling, yet… unpredictable.
His fierce loyalty and unwavering support are constants in your life, grounding you amidst the chaos of the pirate world. And while his private nature sometimes leaves you craving more, you cherish the moments when he lets you in, when he allows himself to be vulnerable with you.
In the hidden corners of The Sunny, away from the eyes of your crewmates, you and Zoro share stolen glances and intimate moments that are reserved solely for each other.
The storage closets, nestled deep within the bowels of the ship, become your sanctuaries of intimacy. There, amidst the shadows and whispers of the vessel, you and Zoro find solace in stolen moments of closeness.
The dim light filtering through the cracks in the door paints a soft glow upon your faces as you press together in the confined space, your breath mingling in the air.
The rhythmic sound of The Sunny’s hull against the waves provides a soothing backdrop to your whispered intimacy; the thrusts of his hips, your moans against his neck. In those hidden moments, you bare your souls to each other; sharing fears, dreams, desires, and everything in between.
----
Amidst the revelry, you notice glances and subtle gestures from some of the other pirates, members of both the Heart Pirates and Kidd Pirates, their intentions not entirely innocent.
Their flirtations and insinuations don't go unnoticed, and although you remain steadfast in your commitment to Zoro, a part of you can't help but feel flattered by the attention.
As the night progresses, Zoro's demeanor shifts. His usually composed facade cracks, replaced by a simmering undercurrent of jealousy and possessiveness. You can feel his gaze burning into you from across the room, his grip tightening imperceptibly around his sake cup.
It's Law who approaches first, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips as he engages you in conversation, his proximity closer than necessary.
"Enjoying the festivities, y/n?" Law asks, his voice laced with playful intent.
"Absolutely," you reply, offering a polite smile, though you can't shake the sense of unease at Zoro's watchful stare.
Zoro's reaction is instantaneous, his jaw clenched as he moves to intercede, positioning himself subtly between you and Law, a silent declaration of his claim.
Next comes Killer, his playful banter veering into suggestive territory, earning a low growl of warning from Zoro.
"You're quite the charmer, aren't you?" Killer remarks, his tone teasing.
Zoro's response is a terse nod, his gaze never leaving Killer's masked face.
Even Kidd, usually brash and unbothered by such matters, can't resist throwing a teasing comment your way, only to be met with a glare sharp enough to cut through steel.
"Careful, y/n, you might give poor Zoro here a heart attack," Kidd jokes, flashing a mischievous smirk.
----
As the flirtations from the other pirates intensify, you feel a mixture of discomfort ripple through you. Seeking a moment of respite, you excuse yourself from the crowd and make your way to a quieter corner of the banquet hall where you spot Nami, your best friend and trusted crewmate, engaged in conversation with Robin.
"Nami," you greet, relief flooding your voice as you join them. "Mind if I steal you away for a moment?"
Nami turns to you with a knowing smile, her sharp eyes taking in your slightly flustered expression. "Of course, y/n," she replies, motioning for you to sit beside her.
As you settle in next to her, you can't help but vent your frustrations. "It's like they're all coming out of the woodwork tonight," you mutter, casting a glance towards where the other pirates are still making advances.
Nami's lips quirk into a sympathetic smile. "Well, you are quite the catch, aren't you?" she teases and winks, nudging you playfully with her elbow.
You can't help but chuckle at her comment, grateful for her light-hearted approach to the situation. "I suppose," you reply with a hint of self-deprecation. "But it's not like I'm interested in any of them."
Nami's expression softens, her gaze meeting yours with a look of understanding. "I know, sweetie," she says gently. "But sometimes it's nice to feel admired, even if it's from a distance."
You nod, grateful for Nami's insight. Despite the unwanted attention, her words offer a sense of validation that eases the tension coiling in your stomach. "Thanks, Nami," you say sincerely, reaching out to squeeze her hand.
"Anytime," Nami replies, returning the gesture with a reassuring smile. "Just remember, you've got Zoro watching over you like a hawk. No one stands a chance against that."
----
As the night wears on and the tensions grow, Zoro can't ignore the prickling sense of unease that gnaws at him.
His jealousy simmers just beneath the surface, a volatile mix of protectiveness and possessiveness that threatens to boil over at any moment.
And suddenly, it does; boils over, floods his skull, and pushes him to drastic measures.
Spotting Law and Kidd engaged in conversation across the room, Zoro's steps grow purposeful as he makes his way towards them, his jaw clenched with barely contained anger.
"Law, Kidd," Zoro's voice is low and menacing as he approaches, his gaze piercing through them with a ferocity that makes even the most seasoned pirates flinch.
Law and Kidd turn to face him, their expressions shifting from casual to wary as they take in Zoro's imposing figure.
"What do you want, Marimo?" Kidd retorts, his tone laced with defiance.
Zoro's eyes narrow dangerously, his temper flaring as he squares his shoulders. "I saw the way you were looking at her," he growls, his voice a low rumble that reverberates with barely contained fury.
Law raises an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "And what if we were?" he replies coolly, though a flicker of amusement dances in his eyes.
Zoro's grip tightens on the hilt of his swords, his knuckles whitening with the effort to restrain himself. "She's off-limits," he spits, "If you know what's good for you, you'll keep your distance."
Law and Kidd exchange a glance, a silent communication passing between them before Law finally speaks, his tone calm but tinged with a hint of amusement. "Relax, swordsman," he says, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "We were just having a friendly conversation."
But Zoro isn't appeased, his anger still simmering beneath the surface as he glares at them both. "Just remember," he warns, his voice low and dangerous. "She's mine."
As you remain seated with Nami, the conversation ebbs and flows between lighthearted banter and moments of quiet introspection. Despite the festive atmosphere surrounding you, a part of your mind remains preoccupied with the tension that seems to linger in the air, like a storm brewing on the horizon.
Nami, ever perceptive, notices the furrow in your brow and the unease that flickers in your eyes. "Is everything alright, y/n?" she asks, her voice laced with concern as she places a reassuring hand on your arm.
You offer her a small smile, grateful for her steadfast presence. "Yeah, I think so," you reply, though the uncertainty still lingers at the edges of your consciousness.
But before you can delve further into the matter, a commotion breaks out across the room, drawing your attention. You and Nami exchange a curious glance before turning to see Zoro engaged in a heated confrontation with Law and Kidd.
Concern etches itself into your features as you watch the scene unfold, the tension in the air palpable even from a distance. "What's going on?" Nami murmurs, her voice barely above a whisper as she leans in closer, her eyes fixed on the unfolding confrontation.
You shake your head, unsure of what has sparked the conflict but feeling a sense of urgency to intervene. "I'm not sure, but I think we should go check on them," you reply, already rising from your seat.
Nami nods in agreement, her expression mirroring your own concern as she follows suit. Together, you make your way through the crowd, weaving between revelers until you reach the center of the commotion.
As you approach Zoro standing with Law and Kidd, you notice the tension radiating from him like a palpable force. His jaw is clenched, his eyes narrowed with simmering anger as he exchanges words with the other pirates.
It's a side of him you haven't seen before, raw and unfiltered, publicly displaying his love for you.
"Zoro," you say softly, reaching out to touch his arm, hoping to diffuse the tension.
He glances at you, his expression still dark with irritation. "Not now," he mutters tersely, his tone leaving no room for argument.
But you aren't deterred. You know that letting his anger consume him won't solve anything. With a gentle tug on his arm, you urge him to step away from the heated exchange.
"Come on, let's go somewhere quieter," you say, your voice laced with concern.
Zoro hesitates for a moment, his gaze flickering between you and the other pirates. Then, with a resigned sigh, he nods and allows you to lead him away from the confrontation.
----
As you walk, you feel the tension slowly dissipating from Zoro's frame, replaced by a sense of calmness. With each step, the anger that had gripped him begins to fade, replaced by the warmth of your presence beside him.
Finally finding a secluded corner of the banquet hall, you turn to face Zoro, your eyes searching his for any lingering traces of anger. "Are you okay?"
But before Zoro can respond, he takes your hand in his with a determined grip, his expression unreadable yet intense. Without a word, he begins to lead you away from the crowded hall, his steps purposeful and unwavering.
Confusion mingles with curiosity as you follow him, your heart pounding with anticipation.
As you reach the door of the storage, you feel blood rush to your face. The two of you only ever go here for one thing.
Zoro turns to you, his gaze locking with yours in a silent yet powerful exchange. Without a word, he pushes open the door and pulls you inside, making your eyes adjust to the dim lighting.
With a gentle yet urgent insistence, Zoro presses you against the wall, his lips finding yours in a hungry, desperate kiss.
“Mmm!” you whimper against his lips, taken off guard by the suddenness of his advances.
There is a rawness to his touch, a primal need that leaves you breathless.
In that moment, as you lose yourselves in the heat of the moment, you realize that words are no longer necessary. Zoro's actions speak volumes, baring his emotions in a way that words never could.
As Zoro's lips trail down your neck, igniting a fiery trail of desire, you let out a low moan of pleasure.
"Fuck," you whisper, your voice barely above a breath as you arch into his touch, your hands tangling in his hair.
He groans against your flesh, causing goosebumps to bud all over your needy skin as he continues his fervent exploration.
In a sudden burst of intensity, Zoro's hands find the hem of your shirt, his fingers gripping the fabric with a primal need. With a swift motion, he tears the fabric away, baring your skin to his hungry gaze.
"Zoro-!" you gasp, a rush of adrenaline coursing through you as you feel the cool air against your exposed flesh, your heart pounding in your chest.
He looks up at you, his eyes dark with desire, a feral hunger burning within them. "I need you," he murmurs, his voice husky with longing.
“Please,” you whine, your voice a breathless plea as he trails kisses down your chest.
As Zoro's lips continue their tantalizing journey across your skin, your senses reel with desire. You allow your head to lull back, shutting your eyes and letting your mouth hang slack as you savor each and every touch.
His hardworking, calloused hands explore your body with a newfound possessiveness, and it makes you feel small; he owns you and you like it.
With trembling hands, you reach for Zoro's shirt, eager to feel the warmth of his skin against yours. With practiced ease, he shrugs off the garment, revealing the defined muscles beneath.
The sight of him, bare-chested and consumed with passion, sends a thrill coursing through you. Without hesitation, you press your body against his, reveling in the heat that radiates between you.
Lost in the heat of the moment, you abandon all inhibitions, giving in to the primal urges that drive you both. Your hands roam freely over his taut muscles, tracing the lines of his scars as you explore every inch of him.
As your fingers dance over his scars, Zoro's breath hitches, his dark eyes locking with yours in a silent exchange of desire.
"You're mine," he murmurs huskily, his voice rough with emotion.
A shiver runs down your spine at his possessive declaration, but instead of fear, it awakens something entirely different within you. "Yours," you whisper back.
With a hungry growl, Zoro captures your lips in a searing kiss, his hands gripping your waist tightly, possessively.
"Never forget it," he breathes against your skin, his lips trailing down your neck.
You arch into his touch, gasping as pleasure courses through your veins. "I won't," you promise, your words melting into a moan as he trails kisses along your collarbone.
Zoro's hands slide down to the hem of your skirt, lifting it up with a hunger that matches the intensity of his gaze. As he exposes more of your skin, his breath catches at the sight; your trembling thighs, your wet panties.
“All this?” he smirks, tsking, “All because I got a little possessive?”
“M-mhm,” you whine weakly, shaking beneath his touch.
With a low growl, Zoro grips your thigh, lifting it up to press his crotch against yours. The heat of his body sends electric currents coursing through you, and you can feel the tension building with each heartbeat.
Your hands clutch at his shoulders, fingers digging into the muscles beneath his skin as you pull him closer, craving more of his touch. "Zoro," you gasp his name, your voice a plea and a prayer all at once.
His lips find yours once more, claiming you with a hunger that leaves you dizzy with need. With each movement, each touch, you feel yourself surrendering completely to his dominance.
Zoro’s calloused fingertips trail down your body to meet your slit, making you gasp softly at the sensation.
He smirks, hooking his fingers beneath the soaked fabric and tugging it aside.
In the same breath, he tugs his pants and boxers down, just enough to remove his cock, rock-hard and throbbing in his grasp.
He leans forwards, the tip of his cock meeting your leaking slit with a gentle nudge. You suck your bottom lip between your teeth to stifle a moan, reaching around to dig your fingernails into the muscular flesh of the swordsman’s back.
“Yeah?’ he groans smugly, pressing his lips to your neck, “Ready for me?” he questions, his words hot against your flesh.
“Y-Yes, Zoro,” you plead, your tone coming out whinier than anticipated, “Please-”
“Please?” he chuckles against your skin, the dark tone of his voice causing goosebumps to erupt all over your body, “Please what?” he presses, continuing to guide his thick tip up and down your aching cunt.
You abandon all dignity, the desire for him to just fuck you already overpowering any morsel of self-respect you once contained.
“Please fuck me, Zoro,” you beg, “Show me just how much I belong to you.”
With a low, primal growl, Zoro's grip tightens on your thigh, his eyes dark with hunger as he positions himself at your entrance.
“That’s it, good girl,” he smirks.
Without another word, he thrusts into you with a force that steals your breath away, claiming you completely in a single, powerful motion.
“Zoro-!” you cry out, raking your nails down his back. The sudden bump of his tip to your cervix causes your head to grow fuzzy, and you pathetically attempt to stifle your moans with a shaky hand to your mouth.
With a devilish smirk, Zoro's thrusts intensify, his eyes gleaming with mischief as he hears your attempts to stifle your moans. He grabs your hand away from your mouth and pins it above your head,
"No," he growls, his voice low and commanding, "Let them hear you. Let them know who you belong to."
His words send a shiver down your spine, and without hesitation, you obey, letting out a loud, unabashed moan that fills the room with the sound of your pleasure. With each thrust, each gasp, you make it known to anyone within earshot that you are his.
The sensation of him filling you completely makes your limbs go numb with pleasure, igniting a fire that burns hotter with each deep, primal thrust. Your nails dig into his back as you cling to him, lost in a haze of ecstasy.
“Fuck, Zoro,” you whine, tears of pleasure flowing down your cheeks as he pounds you into the wall.
Zoro's movements are relentless, driving you both to the edge of sanity as he takes you with a possessiveness that leaves no room for doubt.
You continue to moan loudly for the man you have to thank for your pleasure, making him smirk and double his efforts, the rhythmic sound of your bodies slapping together hardly masking your cries.
"That’s it,” the swordsman chuckles, “No need to be shy," he teases, his voice dripping with amusement, "Let them all know who's making you scream like that."
And as you let out another loud, unrestrained moan, Zoro leans in close, his lips brushing against your ear as he adds with a playful grin,
"After all, it's not every day they get to witness the full extent of my skills."

How Zoro Fucks (Modern AU Imagine)
Tumblr media
Just some word vomit about the rude fuck buddy you met at the gym. (Or: Zoro is a filthy asshole who does not shower and does not care 💚).
Here’s the song that’s meant to be playing in the background of this scene and this entire fic will probably be more tolerable if u listen to it.
Zoro fucks on a full size mattress in the middle of the floor with dingy sheets and a single pillow. The air is thick and moist — the sort of thing that makes breathing uncomfortable, especially compared to the rest of the apartment, which is kept tidy by the roommate Zoro affectionately hates.
Zoro fucks slowly and lazily, as if his attention is everywhere else in the world but on you. He even leans over to check his phone at one point after it buzzes. And of course you follow his gaze and narrow your eyes at this man who has the audacity to check his texts as he drills into you, and of course he notices and narrows his eyes right back, as if you’re the one being rude, and his strong hand grips your chin to yank your face back to where it should be. He squeezes your cheeks and you drop your jaw so he can spit in your mouth. He leans up slightly as he does, purely so you can watch the small string of saliva connecting your mouth to his. You hold it until he’s satisfied that the taste of him has penetrated your tongue and he releases your jaw, giving you a few light slaps on the cheek. As a man of few words he’s an expert of communicating without them, so you listen to his hands. Your mouth snaps shut and you swallow. This is the closest thing you’ll get to a kiss.
The music in the background is just loud enough to be present, and you’re frankly surprised he has anything in his arsenal without an overpowering bass line. The thought occurs that you introduced him to this song and another thought follows that no matter how unattached he says he is, he has held on to this small part of you.
Zoro keeps his pace, but never quite follows the music’s rhythm.
Zoro has effortless control over your body, and even more over his own. Everything he does has a fluidity to it that keeps you from being able to detect his decision to fuck you from behind until you’re flipped around to your hands and knees.
While you’re doing your best not to fall over the edge of his shitty mattress, you hear the click of his phone. He decided to answer that text from earlier while he keeps pumping into you slowly—and you hear him sigh. It’s hard to tell if it’s the message or your cunt that exasperates him. Either way, Zoro decides it’s time for him to come so he can move on with his day.
He tosses his phone to the side so he can use his thumb to rub little circles around your asshole. Sometimes he pushes forward to the first knuckle, but today you’re tense, so he sticks to his rubbing.
You come but he doesn’t care either way. The feeling of you clenching around him as your body trembles is nothing groundbreaking to Zoro, but merely something to be expected because that’s just the way things are when Zoro fucks.
Whatever that text said was weighing on bis mind, so he speeds up and focuses on chasing his orgasm. Zoro’s phone stays close enough for him to grab in case he feels like taking a picture of his cum all over your back.
He pulls out and grunts lightly as he coats your asscrack in ribbons of warm spunk, then collapses on his back and yawns. Your cue to leave.
You finish the routine by slipping your clothes on without bothering to clean up. The ride home will be uncomfortable and sticky, which is just the way you like it. It’s the sort of degradation that’s kinky but still comfortable and Zoro knows it, which is why he gives you a halfhearted smack on the ass right over where he knows his cum coats you. Zoro smirks up at you, on the verge of sleep. See you next week, he mumbles, and you leave, disgusted, counting the days until you get to fuck this absolute dog shit excuse of a man again.
Hi this is my first One Piece fic and also the first thing I’ve written in over a year and I’m so sorry 🫠

from me to you ft. roronoa zoro!
set-up: anon asked me to write angst :) 32 year zoro had lost you two years ago. but when he finds himself back in time, face to face with a 22 year old and and alive you, what will he do?
warnings: none, just some good ole angst; not proofread at all :/
Tumblr media
"how did you get that scar then?" chopper asked, tracing another deep scar on the older man's shoulder.
"i was fighting a warlord." the older zoro shrugged, finding comfort in the way the young reindeer marvelled at his story.
"did you win then?" ussop asked next.
the younger version of the swordsman cut in, "ofcourse he did. he's me."
"not to credit you," the older version bickered, "but yes ofcourse, i did win."
"what do you mean 'not to credit you'. i am the reason you even got to that point-"
"yes but you didn't fight the warlord, i did."
"I AM YOU-"
"oh my god, stop bickering with yourself" nami groaned, "when will the rest be back? im growing so tired of looking after you children."
"i am a decade older than you." the older swordsman answered back.
the rest of the crew was out exploring the port town where the sunny was docked. it was about to be sun-down and the two zoros, nami, ussop and chopper waited for the others to return back.
hours passed and the older man had found himself walking around the ship, reminiscing in the old times. somehow, for someone as much of a shitty memory as him, he could recall every stain, every dent. he could recall every place ussop fucked up or luffy damaged or you-
you. you. you.
and now he could hear footsteps on the deck. more importantly, he could hear you. so, his feet moved to their own accord. he navigated through the ship easily, muscle memory taking ahold of his body. taking him to the deck, taking him to you.
the older swordsman stepped out onto the happening deck and there you were.
you - along with the rest of the crew - turned your attention to the green-haired man that had materialized on the deck. and then, the entire crew erupted into chaos. the younger version of luffy comically looked from one zoro to another, sanji stood with his mouth wide apart and robin looked slightly alarmed.
but none of that mattered.
none of them were you.
the twenty-two year old version of you was looking at the older man, mildly amused. you giggled and then poked nami, saying something along the lines of "he looks like a dilf" or something. but the older man didn't care, or more so he couldn't.
it was night yet he could point out every wayward freckle across your cheek. you shivered and he held back from giving you his kimono. you walked over to his younger version and that green-haired boy pressed a kiss to your forehead the same way he wanted to.
you were there.
in flesh and blood, you were there.
and maybe that's why he turned his back on you and walked into that old cabin of his. maybe that's why he locked the door and slumped against the wood with a heavy sigh. maybe that's why he covered his eyes with his palm and tried to blink the tears away.
you were gone. you had been, for the past two years. and he had learnt to live with that absence. learnt to swallow down any memories of you that came creeping up like bile. learnt to only smile in his dreams when he saw you again.
shouldn't he be happy he saw you again? shouldn't he be glad you smiled at him again? he should be, right?
then why wasn't he? why did it hurt him more to see you laughing that it did when he saw your cold corpse?
"uhm-" your voice called from outside, unsure, "zo- zoro? are you in there?"
he pressed his palm flatter against his eyes and sighed, "i'll be out in a minute, please wait"
"are you okay?" you asked softly and when he didn't reply, you asked again, "can i come in?"
wordlessly, he turned around and opened the door. and wordlessly, you crashed against him, hugging the older man.
letting go of whatever restraints he had, he held you against him tightly. he closed his eyes, relishing in the way your warmth felt against him, the way your cheek was resting against his chest, the way your tresses tickled his skin.
"you looked like you could use a hug." you mumbled against him, "it must be insane, to go through this time travel thing right?"
but the older man just pursed his lips tighter, trying to hold onto the love of his life as long as he could. he tried to fight off the welling tears as you let go of him and looked up at him.
"you smell nice. looks like you're actualy showering huh?" you laughed, "and i can't believe you got even more tall. i look like a child in front of you!"
zoro smiled despite himself, "hate to break it to ya, but you stay this size your entire life."
"what?! no!" you laughed again in disbelief, "really??"
he just nodded and you hit his chest playfully. then you said, "well i have so many questions for you. should i ask? please please pl-"
"anything for you." he replied mindlessly.
"look at you, such a romantic. your younger version could learn a thing or two." you paused, "my future version must be really happy with you, huh- wait, we're still together right?"
zoro was silenced. then, he put on a smile, "yeah, we are. and i guess she's pretty happy."
"are you?"
it was a simple question and yet, zoro felt like his being was set ablaze by just those two words. though his mouth felt like it was full of tar, he managed to say, "yeah, more or less"
you cocked an eyebrow, "you know you're a terrible liar."
"i-" he gave you a tired smile, "things have just been hard for the past few years, that's all."
"oh," you gave him a nudge, "but as long you've got me, things will be okay, yeah?"
he scoffed, as if rejecting your suggestion. you met the older man's gaze with confusion, as if asking him if you said something wrong.
his eyes softened, voice barely audible. he asked you, "and what if i lost you?"
"dumbass, you can never lose me. i'm with you, always."
"what if?"
"then..." you pondered for a second. finally, you raised your wrist to the green-haired swordsman's eyelevel. the silver charm bracelet shone dimly in the lit room. you shook your wrist and the soft melody of the charms filled the room, "you can keep this, to remember me."
zoro's gaze was transfixed on the charm bracelet, his eye catching each miniscule metallic movement, "you- you lost this bracelet."
"i did?" you tilted your head.
"i mean- in a couple years you will. we had docked on a summer island and you lost it while exploring the town."
you watched the way the man stared at your wrists and you made your decision, "take it."
"but it's your favourite jewelry-"
"well, if i'm gonna lose it anyways-" you took off the bracelet with little trouble, "then i think you should keep it."
you gave him another smile, delicately placing the dainty bracelet in his calloused palm, "maybe you can give it back to my future self when you're back in the present. i am sure she'd like the surprise of having it back."
before zoro could protest, his younger version barged into the cabin. the younger boy hissed at the older man, "give me back my girlfriend, oldy."
the older man didn't ignore the way you laughed. you took languid steps to reach the younger boy and then you melted in his arm as you laughed.
he loved you then, he loved you now. he knows he would love you beyond this.
and that's all that matters.
roronoa zoro, aged 32, had disappeared for three days. he refused to tell anyone where he had gone. but when he returned, he sported a new chain round his neck with old charms. nobody on the crew bought the chain up, they didn't need to.
because for the first time in two years, the swordsman could crack open a smile when he greeted them.
and that's all that mattered.
💗a/n: definitely gonna be posting sanji's part as soon as im done with it! sanji's part

Teaching Zoro How to Kiss (SFW-ish)
WC: 1.3k
Black Fem Reader in Mind
CW: Reader “Bullies” Zoro, because she likes him, Kissing, a Bit Suggestive
Tumblr media
“PUSSY! LET’S GO AGAIN!”
“YOU CAN’T KEEP RUNNING AWAY THOUGH IT PISSES ME OFF!”
It’s been 2 hours of your both sparing in the Crow’s Nest. You’re not even a swordsman you just wanted to bother Zoro and play with his swords. He got annoyed with how you were swinging them around and you challenged him to fight, which of course he didn’t want to decline, but he couldn’t stand how you just constantly toyed with him.
“What if i was a real enemy?! Running can only get you so far , woman.”
You shrugged, you and him both knew if it really came down to a fight you were the last to run away, but playing dumb with Zoro was just too fun not to do.
“No worries, i can just jump on your strong back and you can protect me!” You beamed you smile at him, as he was changing, stealing a few glances at how the bright afternoon sun hit his damped tan skin. Your eyes snapped away when you seen Zoro look what at you distraught by your answer a little.
“What?! N-no you idiot what if i’m not there with you—“
“When are you NOT around me, Zo?” You giggled and shrugged once more now moving towards him as he was taking off his sweaty shirt, he immediately felt your close presence causing him to back up a little.
“Tch.” He rolled his eyes before using his sweaty shirt to wipe his face, you wasn’t sure if it was to actually dry his forehead or to clear his cheeks from the ted that was appearing on them. “It’s only because your ass is so clingy. Can’t even breathe—“
“Cut the shit you know you love when I’m around.” You inch closer to him, noticing his blush at a brighter tone of red than it was before you smirk, “You love when we train, when I annoy you, and even though you claim to like peace and quiet you sure as hell enjoy when I speak. Don’t you?”
“Shut up! Nobody cares to listen to you—“
“You’re right. You’d much rather look at me speak…that’s why you always stare at my lips when i talk.”
You could feel Zoro’s heart sink to his ass. His pupils got tiny and he gave off such an annoyed look at you as he was gritting his teeth you could see the steam come out of his head, making you laugh.
“Move.” He lightly shoved you out the way by pressing his hand against your tummy to sit back down on the cool wall to relax. He was hoping you’d just sigh and walk off to bother someone else, but he knew better and you knew better than to do such a thing.
You stared at him for a moment in thought, his light brown back muscles flexing subtly as he walked, beads of sweat dripping down his spine.
Ugh, you really hated this man and how he makes you feel.
“Whaaattt, Zo…” you skipped your way over to him and slid down on the wall to sit beside him. “I’m just pointing out the obvious.”
“Whatever.”
You snicker, “Don’t get your panties caught in a knot, bro—“
“I DON’T WEAR PANTIES—“
“See.” You point at his eyes, “You’re staring at my lips again.”
Zoro was so sick of your teasing he actually begins to cross his arms and look the other way, which was hilarious on your end.
“Y’know men only look at a woman’s lips when they wanna kiss.”
He quickly moved his eyes back on yours, you had a certain glint in your eye that made him gulp, you smirk at his now stiffened body and move his arms to crawl in between his legs.
“What are you doing?!”
“If you don’t like me this close then say that and I’ll move.”
“….”
“…good!”
“Now..”
“Kiss me.”
Of Zoro would have been drinking you would have been sprayed with sake, instead he began to choke on his spit,
Again. Hilarious.
“What?!”
“Do it. I know you want to…scared?”
He avoided your gaze, feeling you lean in closer with your hands firmly on his thighs, he got flustered again,
“Who said I would ever kiss you….pretty sure you wouldn’t be great anyways.”
“Oh, because you’ve kissed better right?”
Still not wanting to look you in the eye, you grab his cheeks to make him look at you, pressing them a little.
“You kissed other bitches?”
“You—!” He slaps your hand making you chuckle, “No!—“
“Other dudes?”
“NO!”
Then it clicked.
“….you never kissed anybody before.”
His eyes looks at you for a second, face as red a a tomato and that’s when your eyes rose.
“Who gives a shit about if I kissed someone or not?! It’s a waste of time.”
“How would you know you never kissed nobody, dumbass.”
His annoyed looked turned into embarrassment in his eyes, he looked down for a second not wanting to further the conversation, you almost felt a little bad, so you backed up fiddling your fingers.
“…I’m sorry.”
He didn’t really wanna hear it, you sigh, “It’s okay if you never kissed anyone…It’s nothing wrong with it.”
“I know it isn’t.”
It was a few seconds of awkward silence until you said fuck it and moved his face again to look at you,
“..you’re staring at my lips.” Zoro’s muffled voice broke out earning him a crooked smile.
You look at his dark low lidded eyes, somehow hoping you won’t have to ask verbally for what you wanted, it was almost as if he could read your mind because you felt his head nod a little.
You move yourself closer and plant your lips onto his, they were cold. You felt him breathe harder through his nose, also gripping his hands on your exposed thighs giving them a tight squeeze. He moved them to hold your cheeks as well to push you further into him.
He was very inexperienced, you haulted your movements to let him find his way, he couldn’t, giving you little sloppy kisses you pull away.
“I…um…my bad..”
You felt the heat from his face radiate off yours and you smile warmly, wiping his lower lip,
“Try again.” You whisper, he awkwardly shakes his head okay as he pulls you in closer to peck your lips. They were so soft and plush, he even tasted a bit of your lipgloss.
The kiss was more gentle, he furrowed his brows a bit to focus a bit, your fingers move to graze his sweaty nape, you swore you hear a small groan from him.
Zoro tilts his head to taste more of you, kissing you felt like something he couldn’t describe. The weight of your body now leaning on his as he sat back on the wall felt amazing. He allows his tongue to inch closer into your mouth. Your eyes opened for a split second feeling his big hands cup your bottom, wondering when the hell did they get there, but you didn’t want it to stop.
He was such a fast learner.
Pulling away slowly, the last thing you hear was a small smack before Zoro chuckles lowly, “Told you I can kiss.”
“You ain’t tell me shit!” You smack his chest, even with a red face he still manages to try and be a smartass.
“For a beginner you sure learn quickly..” You mumble picking at his warm collar bone.
“You’re not too bad yourself.”
“I’m fucking amazing thank you very much.”
“Oh yeah?” He adjust you to now be chest to chest, biting his lower lip staring at your breast up to your mouth, “Show me again then.”
You roll your eyes and grab the sides of his face to kiss him, in an instant his tongue was wrapped and swirling in your mouth breaking a mouth out of you in shock and you pull away.
“Wh—WHO TAUGHT YOU THAT MOVE?!”
“Luffy told me some shit he seen in Dressrosa…so I kept it in mind..”

Tumblr media
"I'm so fuckin' nervous, Nami."
"Babe, you look fine. You're overreacting! That idiot is definitely gonna love what he sees, [Name]."
"What if he thinks I'm ugly? I'd be so embarrassed."
"Girl, I doubt he would. You're gorgeous. Plus, I'd beat his ass, simple."
Currently, you were in the bathroom attempting to catch your breath which resulted in failure, because your nerves were getting the best of you. You were at the hugely prominent party that one of your friends had decided to throw on a Friday night. Well, wasn't exactly randomly thrown. Precisely, you attended this party to meet a certain someone for the first time, face to face.
You already met the rest of the crew twenty minutes after you arrived, excluding Nami since she's a long-time friend of yours.
What's funny is, you had met her crew through an online game. She had asked you to come and join their lobby while they played a session because they were missing a member and needed an extra person to start their game. Over the months, she introduced you to them after adding you to their group chat. As soon as you told Luffy that your favorite food was meat, he automatically made you a member of their friend group.
At first, you were too nervous to talk into the mic so you would be muted, but once you get comfortable, you spoke with them almost every day. At times Sanji would flirt with you and ask you to send selfies of yourself so that he can shower you with compliments, describing how your voice sounded 'angelic' over the mic.
However, you never showed them your appearance because you were insecure and didn't want to be judged. You also wanted to meet them in person because you felt like you looked better in person. Nami respected your wishes and told you to only show them when you're comfortable.
You knew what most of them looked like, except a few, which included Roronoa Zoro. At first, you and Zoro didn't really interact much. It seems as though he was weary of you, or he just had trust issues. It was understandable, but you saw it as a challenge. You started pestering him in the group chat, always teasing him, which led him to directly message you for the first time.
It started out as him bluntly stating that you were very annoying, which honestly kind of hurt your feelings at first, but you would always rebuttal. You both had started arguing, throwing playful insults at each other which ultimately led him to calling you. You were astounded by it, asking him why he even dialed to call you. His statement was even more baffling,
"I just wanna hear your voice."
That text alone had your heart jumping, as butterflies fluttered inside your chest. Honestly, you didn't want to pick up. In your defense, you felt jittery because his voice was undeniably attractive. It was deep, and gruff which would always have you tingling inside whenever he did speak into the mic on the game. It was just so... sexy.
Ultimately, you did decide to pick up, and let out a soft 'Hi?'. He chuckled, making your heartbeat gradually quicken. It's as if he sensed your uneasiness and proceeded to tease you on your shyness.
"You talk all that shit in text, but sound so innocent once you're on the phone."
"Shut yo' ass up."
"You ain't bold enough to say it in person."
Ever since then, it was like a sacred routine for the both of you to have playful arguments in direct messages and occasionally, on the phone over the months. You still get anxious whenever you hear his voice because you still aren't used to it. You just knew that he must've been an attractive person. Eventually, you did see his appearance, and lord have mercy.
You actually discovered it by looking him up one day out of curiosity. He claimed that he didn't really use social media much, but once you saw his Instagram, he had so many followers. You had no idea that he was such a popular man, dare say that he was even a celebrity figure. Matter of fact, THE WHOLE CREW was well known. You saw them in his tags, clicking on each of their profiles.
Seeing Zoro made you so self-conscious that you actually started to distance yourself from him. You were way out of his league; he was such an unbelievably attractive man. Unworldly, even. Especially when you looked through his comments when he posted his workout videos. The people were head over heels for him. The simps were horrendously down bad.
You had just... sat there. Thinking to yourself, why was Zoro even wasting his time talking to you? He doesn't even know what you look like, other than the time when Nami described your appearance to them once, yet he still seems to be so interested in conversating with you.
Unfortunately, he took notice of you ignoring him very quickly since he's an observant man. He questioned your intentions at first, which led to you both having quite an intense argument, but ultimately he respected your boundaries and left you alone.
The crew also noticed you both avoiding each other. Zoro would barely speak into the mic now but would still listen to the sound of your voice. Even though he had no clue what he did wrong, he still wanted to at least hear you talk, because it calms his nerves, soothing him. He liked you; he already came to terms with that fact internally.
You, on the other hand, were struggling.  You thought distancing yourself would've been the best thing to do yet turns out to be the worst possible decision. You felt awful because you worsened the situation and realized that you harbored feelings for him. Ignoring him was like a stab to your heart. If anything, it was a wake-up call for you. You missed him badly, and wanted to talk to him but weren't sure how to go about it.
Eventually, you stopped being a pussy and called him instead of doing it over text. Apologizing over the phone felt more authentic to you because you wanted him to know how sorry you were. You apologized, saying that you were an over-thinker and thought it was best to distance yourself from him because you discovered who he was.
In short, he was taken aback that you hadn't searched him up by now, assuming you did it the moment you heard them say his name.
"You're such a crybaby.. come on, don't cry, princess."
"I know, i'm sorry.."
You didn't cry often, but you did humiliatingly shed some tears after telling him about your insecurities and thought he wouldn't want to talk to you anymore once he discovered what you looked like. You also told him your experiences with your ex, who just so happens to be your first and only boyfriend that would comment inhumane insults about your looks. That's also why you didn't use social media as much as you used to anymore because he would belittle your looks and call you a hoe for your pictures.
He went as far as deleting them because he didn't like certain comments from people. It was honestly ridiculous, which made you think he was insecure. Nevertheless, you're glad to have left that toxic and verbally abusive relationship.
Zoro talked you through it that whole night, comforting and complimenting you, making it known for you to believe that you were breathtaking inside and out. He was such a gem, and it was a foreign feeling to you. Your last relationship ruined things for you, yet Zoro made everything so surreal and genuine. Now what were you and Zoro exactly? You weren't sure. You were both friends, but it felt so much more on your end.
You didn't want to ruin that friendship though, because you cherished him. You did attempt to bottle up your emotions, but he wasn't making it any better. He'd always have these pet names to call you, like 'princess' or 'mamas', even 'peaches.'
You weren't sure if it was intentional, but it did make your heart swell. About six months have passed since you met them, and they all wanted to meet you so badly. You finally gave in, and you all planned to meet at the party their mutual friend was having.
Since they were scattered at the party, you met them one by one, and they immediately discovered who you were whenever you threw a subtle hint at them. Luffy, literally threw himself on you, giving you the biggest hug. He knew it was you after you called him by the nickname you gave him. He was giggling so much, pushing your cheeks together in adoration. Chopper was with him, as he cried happy tears, latching himself onto your leg. Luffy was taller than you thought, surprised that he was actually taller than you.
After that, Nami guided you to Robin, who was with Franky at the time. They both literally towered over you, since they were taller than 6 feet. Franky immediately called you a shorty, also dramatically crying tears, quoting he was happy to finally meet his 'little sister'. Robin smiled warmly, as you both hugged each other. She complimented your appearance, stating that you looked absolutely breathtaking. She also whispered into your ear, saying Zoro probably wouldn't be able to control himself after he sees you. It made you blush hysterically since she knows about your crush on him.
You then met Brook, who was sticking out like a sore thumb in the crowd because of his astonishing height. Of course, he automatically asked to see your panties, which resulted in you smacking him. Nevertheless, he laughed loudly and hugged you tight, complimenting your appearance by calling you angelic. He was one of the members of the crew that you related to so much since you both loved music and had similar tastes. He would even send you his music playlists, asking for your opinions on the workpiece.
When you saw Sanji, he didn't realize it was you at first. He was in the kitchen, cooking meals for the party since the host's main chef abandoned his cooking. The first thing he had done was obviously flirt with you, calling you a beautiful maiden, asking for your hand in marriage. You giggled at the gesture, shaking your head to refuse the proposal. When he asked for your name, you simply told him to guess it. Randomly, he chuckled saying your name, thinking it couldn't possibly be you until you smiled at him, not answering.
"...[Name]?"
He was so bewildered at your beauty, immediately having a heavy nosebleed then and there. It was so bad that he was literally drenched in it. You did indeed help him, leading him to the nearest bathroom. You felt bad for him, but it was honestly hilarious how much of an effect you had on him.
By chance, when you came back to check on him, Usopp was there helping him clean himself up. Usopp already knew what you looked like because of a dare that was made in the group chat. Plus, you considered Usopp to be one of your best friends since you two had instantly clicked the moment you spoke with them on the game. He paused for a second, blinking as he flickered his eyes between you and Sanji, then solely resting his eyes on you.
"Oh my god, [Name]!"
He did the same thing Luffy did, latching himself onto you, rubbing his cheek against yours as he laughed loudly. He then pulled back, staring at you once again in disbelief, before pulling you right back in to another bone-crushing hug.
"I can't believe I'm finally seeing you in person, you're so adorable!"
Hearing him call you adorable made you blush slightly, cheesing at him.
"Shut up, you're gassing me up too much."
He lets out a boisterous laugh, playing with your hair a bit, letting you part from the hug. You both spoke for a bit, catching up on everything, and explained that Zoro was looking for you even though he didn't want to admit it. You bit your lip nervously, not ready to face him. You were so nervous that you even considered going back home, but that would make you a pussy.
The only person you didn't meet yet was Zoro.
That led you to your current situation, in the bathroom exasperatedly trying to calm your nerves down, as Nami praised you and gave you some pensive encouragement.
Little did you know, Nami was planning on having you meet Zoro unexpectedly. She was informed by Robin that Zoro was upstairs in the arcade room, which was surprisingly empty after someone had passed out on the floor from losing a drinking contest with Zoro. It's a good thing that he only drank a minuscule amount, (well what HE considers small) because he promised himself that he would be sober so that he can meet you properly. Believe it or not, he was also a bit nervous. He had no idea what you looked like, not that he cared for looks anyway, making fall solely for your personality.
Your phone began to ring in your pocket, which you took out to take a look at. Robins's name flashes, and you slide it open to answer your phone.
"Hi, [Name]! you left your jacket behind when we departed, but don't worry, I have it with me. I'll hold onto it whenever you'd like to come get it. I'm upstairs inside the arcade room."
"Oh shit, thank you, Robin. I was looking for it too. I'm coming to you right now, be there in a sec."
After you hung up, you let out a sigh of relief. That jacket was expensive as fuck. You don't remember leaving it behind, but you didn't think too much on it and remained grateful that it wasn't stolen. While you were putting your phone in your pocket, you noticed Nami smirking to herself, trying to contain her laughter."
"Girl, what are you laughing at."
"Don't worry about it, go get your jacket."
"Bitch, How did you know-"
She immediately pushed you out of the bathroom, locking it up as you stumbled, catching yourself from falling. You grumbled to yourself, vowing that you'd get her back for that.
You made your way upstairs, avoiding the drunken couples that were sucking face against the walls. As you passed some rooms, you saw the sign 'Arcade Room' in huge bold letters, seeing the doors closed.
For some unknown reason, you felt chills run down your spine. Nevertheless, you opened the door, and slipped inside, shutting the door behind you. You took a quick look around, noticing how empty the place was.
'Why the fuck is it so empty in here.. usually the arcade places at parties are surrounded by people.'
"Hey, Robin? You in here?"
There was an eerie silence for a few moments, indicating that no one was there. You sighed, thinking she had left this room after growing bored. She could've at least contacted you to let you know that she was moving to another location.
Before you could turn around to leave, the door to the arcade opened, and slammed shut. It startled you, making you turn around to face whoever entered. As soon as you looked at the person, your heart dropped. You felt as if your heart was going to burst right out of your chest.
"Ah, sorry. Didn't know someone was in here."
The person who entered the room was Zoro, in the flesh. He was so breathtaking.. not only were his pictures attractive but seeing him in person was a whole nother level. The man stood tall, at around six feet, with enormous biceps. His black shirt was also unbuttoned, giving you a glimpse of his strong-toned chest, along with the long scar on his chest and endless abs. The scar on his eye complimented his appearance even more. The man was just so attractive, it made your nerves skyrocket. He also had a prominent frown on his face. He was like a walking sex god.
He must've noticed you checking him out, scowling a bit as he cleared his throat to catch your attention.
"O-Oh! Sorry.."
You immediately turned around, facing the TV in embarrassment. You shut your eyes, releasing a breath of air out of your lungs.
'Fuck, why did he have to be so damn handsome. He is way out of my league.. I'm gonna combust.'
He narrowed his eyebrows suspiciously, wondering why you were in this room in the first place. Everyone had left after the drinking contest, so there was no reason for another person to be in here. Unless you wanted to play games by yourself.
He huffed out, walking over to sit on the couch, closing his eyes to take a short rest. His eye opened a bit to take a glance at you after he noticed you not moving an inch from that spot, seemingly standing there frozen.
"Oi, you just gonna stand there all day?"
"Zoro."
Hearing his name being called from you made his wary glance deepen. It made him wonder how you know who he was. It would make sense if you knew him from the media since he was a pretty popular guy.
"Do I know you?"
You turned around, feeling his heavy gaze on your figure, as his eyes trailed up to your face. He thought you were an attractive woman, but another person was on his mind, who was quite literally standing in front of him.
"Yea, you do. You dumbass."
His eyebrow arched in confusion, having no clue who you were.
"No the fuck I don't. Where do I know you from?"
"Look at my damn clothes."
His eyes raked over your clothes, thinking back to when you had asked him what to wear for the party so that he could spot you easily.
"I better catch you wearin' that so I can find you, princess."
His eye widened, immediately jumped up onto his feet to stare intensely at you for a few seconds.
"[Name]?"
You smiled at him brightly, giggling to yourself that he finally realized who you were. It took you so much courage to even hold a regular conversation with him right now. You were still just as nervous as you were before.
"The one and only."
He was in disbelief, cursing at the fact that he was obliviously talking to you in this room. No wonder you were standing there. He felt like such an idiot. He walked over to you, which made you promptly turn around to face the TV once again. You were still nervous, but you attempted to shake them off.
"Give me a second."
He could sense that you were internally shaking, the nerves overcoming your body as he grinned, chuckling out loud. Hearing his chuckle in person made your heart jump. It was so sexy yet adorable at the same time.
He stood right behind you without you even taking notice, leaning down towards your ear to whisper a word that would cause your insides to discombobulate.
"Princess."
You gasped as he grabbed your waist, guiding you to turn around and face him, while you struggled in his grasp to resist him. He was undeniably strong, so he held you in place by force. You couldn't run away at all, even if you tried. Due to the proximity, you closed your eyes shut, not wanting to face him, to prevent yourself from doing something stupid.
"[Name], look at me."
"No way."
You shook your head in refusal, not wanting to open your eyes to look at him. Opening your eyes would make you come to terms with your feelings for him.
"Come on.." He leans down towards your face, placing a soft kiss on your cheek. "Open your eyes for me."
"Why should I."
"Because." This time, he places a kiss on your nose. "I wanna see how pretty your eyes are."
He continued to kiss your face gently, from your forehead to your cheek, and your nose, avoiding your lips altogether.
"You're so cute, just as I expected."
Shivers ran down your spine as one of his hands, trailed up to place onto your neck, softly gripping it as his thumb rubbed slow, soothing circles on your throat.
"Beautiful.."
Just from that, you decided to open your eyes, staring right into his. He was smiling, which is something that he rarely does. His smile was so beautiful and genuine, something you never thought you'd witness in real life. He was known to be quiet, blunt, and aggressive, but from your point of view, he's a selfless gentleman that would willingly do anything to protect the people he cared about. Your heart didn't think it could take anymore. He let go of your neck, opening his arms, gesturing for you to hug him. You wasted no time, wrapping your arms around his neck as his wrapped around your lower back, holding you flushed against his chest. You both let out a sigh, basking in the lovely moment of holding each other.
He was so warm and big, you had to stand on your tippy toes just to even hug him properly. You buried your head onto his neck, as his aroma inhaled your senses. He smelled so good, the scent was very pleasant indeed to your nostrils.
You both laughed in joy, content in the happy moment of serenity. He tipped back, lifting you slightly off the ground as he twirled around, with your laughter increasing.
"Zoro! I'm gonna get dizzy."
"But I wanna keep holding you.."
"I know, at least put me down."
Zoro looked at you for a second, seemingly in thought, until he smirked, wiggling you in his grip.
"Nah, I got a better idea."
"What-"
You let out a small squeal, as he suddenly grabbed the back of both your thighs, lifting them up to have you wrap them around his waist.
"Mhm.. much better."
You rolled your eyes at him, as he slightly lifted you up into the air to bounce you in his arms, dropping you back down again to wrap your legs around his waist firmly.
"What if somebody comes in?"
"Too fuckin' bad.” He scoffed, nipping at your neck playfully as you gasped from the sudden intrusion. “I've been waiting way too long to do this."
You laughed, poking his cheek with your pointer finger. "Didn't realize you were this affectionate."
His smile faltered, as he glared at you, airing it as a warning sign to you. His menacing look at you made you feel hot inside. Honestly, anything he did turned you on.
"Don't make me drop you, 'cause I will."
"You wouldn't."
"Try me."
You narrowed your eyes at him, sighing in detest. "You drop me and I'll kill yo' ass."
"Who says I wasn't gonna do that after this.." He mumbled under his breath but stopped to hold in his laughter after he sees the glare you sent his way.
"Zoro stop playin' with me."
He chuckled and ignored your empty threat, walking over to set you down onto a cleared table. He pushed your thighs apart, settling to stand in between them, as you re-wrapped your arms around his neck. For some odd reason, he was staring at you so intently, with you not being able to read his blank expression. It definitely made you nervous, since you weren't used to seeing him in person. You looked behind him, avoiding his face altogether.
"What? Am I that good looking?"
He scoffed, not wavering his intense stare. "You're gorgeous, but that's beside the point. I'm waiting."
You reverted your eyes to him, confused about what he meant by waiting. What was he even waiting for?
"Waiting for what?"
"Don't act like you don't know."
Your eyebrows furrowed, confused even more.
"I actually don't know, you moss head. Tell me."
He grunts, lifting his hand up to flick your forehead, making you flinch from the slight sting. "What you said you'd do when you first see me."
When you'd first see him?
You hummed in thought, attempting to reminisce if you ever say anything about that. The only time you ever said anything about seeing him was a few weeks ago, him teasing you that you'd pussy out on meeting him. Once he said that you got irritated, stating that you'd kiss him on the first link-up just to prove your point.
'Shit..' you were only bluffing when you said that.
He noticed your eyes widen, his smirk deepening knowing that you figured out the root of what he was talking about.
You took your arms off of his neck, folding them together once you noticed his taunting demeanor. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Nah, you know exactly what i'm talkin' about, [Name]. Don't play dumb."
"Nope. Not a clue."
His hand trailed up to reach for your chin, grabbing it sternly and tilting it towards him. His thumb was slowly rubbing circles on your chin, soothing your nerves and letting you relax. "Don't lie to me, sweetheart.."
Your heart skipped a beat, letting out a staggering breath as he leaned down towards your ear, nibbling on it gently.
"Or I'll have to punish you."
Internally, you were fighting with yourself from being in this situation, you're usually a brat towards him on the phone, but in person he was making your insides melt. Fuck, you felt disappointed in yourself with how much he was affecting you.
"Loss for words?" Letting out a laugh as he leaned back, observing the submissive look on your face. He could get used to this, satisfied with himself to see you so acquiescent and submissive just for him. Only for him. Zoro's a very possessive man, even with his own enemies.
"You're so fuckin' cute. It's driving me crazy."
"S-Shut up!"
You hated to say it, but you honestly didn't mind this. You felt like you were crazy for even admitting it in your mind because anyone being able to tame you was a hard task, even for your parents. You were known to be a brat, having a smart mouth. So to witness him having you in such a trance, was devastating to say the least.
You tried to hide your face this time, lifting your hands to cover it but he swiftly grabs them, placing them back onto his neck.
"Aw, getting all shy on me again, princess?"
You didn't respond, simply ignoring him in annoyance. If he was going to continue teasing you, then you'll just stop paying attention to it.
"You don't have to kiss me if you don't want to, I don't want to make you uncomfortable." He cups your cheek softly, squeezing the chubby cheek as he spoke to you.
"It's not that Zoro, I want to, badly even. I'm just scared to."
"You think I'm gonna do the same shit your ex did?"
Your silence clarified his answer, him sighing as he pulled you closer to him by your waist, having your legs on either side of him. You spread your legs a bit wider to adjust to his size. Zoro was huge compared to you.
"You're worth much more than to ever treated be that way. Everything about you is beautiful to me, [Name]. From the top of your head to the tip of your toes."
His eye trailed down to your plump lips, licking his lips as he resisted the urge to lean down and taste you.
"Even I don't deserve you, You're fuckin' perfect. I'll praise you every damn day just to remind you how gorgeous you are." You bit your lip from hearing those words, feeling your erratic heartbeat increase. Zoro is such a sweetheart and felt so grateful to have him in your life.
"Maybe I need to start by showing you how much I do."
You were confused by his words, opening your mouth to say something until he leaned down, his warm breath caressing your face as his lips captured yours in a gentle, sensual kiss, sending your eyes fluttering from the soothing draw of his skin against yours. His hand on the back of your head cradled you, keeping your face flushed against his.
At first, you were shocked that he was kissing you, giving it a few seconds until you started to move your lips against his, lips heavily locked. Once he felt you return the kiss, he smirks into it, tilting his head to deepen the kiss. He loves the way you taste, and now that he has gotten a taste, he's never letting you go. It was as if nothing else mattered. He poured all of his feelings and emotions into the kiss, biting your bottom lip, sucking it into his mouth, stroking your lips with his tongue for you to give him access, which you did. You pulled him closer, feeling his tongue brush up against yours and engulfed it completely, letting out soft moans that were swallowed up by his mouth.
As your soft hands brush along the nape of his neck and pinch at strands of his mint hair, you feel his huge calloused hands run along your thighs and waist. When Zoro roughly gripped and squeezed the round cheek of your ass, you gasped for air as his other hand started to trace intricate patterns over your back. Slowly, he moves his hand up to the front of your neck, wrapping his rough calloused hand around your smooth throat. He grips it, resulting in you letting out a small gasp as he gently sucked on your tongue.
'Damn, he know how to snatch a persons soul out just from a kiss.'
The whole thing was mind-blowing to you, this was the best kiss you ever fucking had in your life. Scratch that, best make out session too. Your ex was horrible at it, always having drools of spit, teeth clashing, and everything. He even almost bit your tongue off. Plus, he was the first person you ever kissed, so having that as a learning experience was blasphemy. This was exactly what you'd been fantasizing about ever since you first met him all those months ago when Nami first added you to the game and you couldn't believe that it was actually happening right now. It felt so surreal.
"You're so fuckin' pretty... so pretty, baby."
He whispered against your lips between the heavy kisses, the table creaking from his bruising onslaught. He wants you, needs you. Needs to see you, touch you, taste you, feel you. He grunts, stealing your breath away with every kiss. He doesn't want to be away from you, chasing after your lips after you pull away.
"I don't wanna ever make you feel insecure while you're around me. I'ma make sure you never feel that way."
He pulled back, a thin line of saliva connecting you both as it broke apart. You are panting, face flushed and blushing deeply, with your lips puffed out due to being bitten on from a heavy make-out session.
He leaned down and licked a slow stride up your neck, pampered soft kisses over your jaw until his mouth hovered over your ear.
"Now that I have you, I ain't ever letting you go."

The warm embers of an open fire glowed a vibrant shade of red against the sandy shore of the beach. The sun had only just started to become eclipsed by the vast coastline of the ocean, prompting the last rays to tint the air pink as its last farewell. Sounds of singular plucked guitar strings harmonised by the crackle of dried wood in the fire, many among the large troop had risen to their feet to sway their bodies in time to the rhythm; all the Straw-Hat pirates amongst the crowd.
Well, apart from one member.
Zoro lay reclined on his back, his arms cradling the back of his neck as he gazed at the purple hue of tinted clouds beginning to depart in favour of gentle starlight. Peaking out of the corner of his eye, he views Nami spinning amongst the dancers, linking arms with Luffy before laughing and plonking to the ground; becoming exhausted from the vigorous movements.
Shifting downwards onto your knees beside him, you release a gentle cough to alert him of your presence. He shifts his gaze up to meet your position, a wide smile welcoming you as you raise a large bottle of beer to indicate for him to take it from within your hands. You slid your hand to the bottom of the beer bottle to make it easier for him to take it from you without needlessly touching him.
“For me?” he asks, propping himself up onto his elbow, still partially reclining against the sand.
“Of course,” you smirked and nod your head to him, waving the bottle in front of him. He chuckles and grasps the neck of the bottle, nodding in thanks as he gently takes it from you and immediately swigs from it.
You giggle a little, turning your attention back to your troop dancing amongst the crowd; Sanji leaning down to Nami in a polite bow with his right hand extended to ask her to dance. She politely shakes her head to decline, prompting the blonde chef to seem slightly disappointed by the outcome.
“Oh, poor Sanji,” you raise your eyebrows upwards and fall your lips into a tight, thin line; tsking your lips in pity. Zoro looks up at your face, furrowing his brows before turning to look at the chef.
“Why ‘poor Sanji’?” he asked you, taking another swig from the bottle.
“Oh,” you gasped in surprise, not realising your pittance was released from your lips, “its just; he’s a really good dancer and finally has the opportunity to show off his skills and Nami just rejected him,” you shrug.
You turn your sights back to look at Sanji who appeared to be sulking a little more, going back to the food vendor and asking for a drink to drown his partial sorrow. Zoro furrowed his brows deeper in thought, looking between both you and the chef.
“You’ve danced with him, then?” Zoro asked you nonchalantly, again raising the neck of the glass beer bottle to his lips. You brought your attention back to the swordsman at your side, scrunching up your nose playfully at him.
“He’s actually yet to ask me,” you smiled at him, “but I’ve seen him dancing with a few of the women here, and he’s superb.”
Zoro grunted a little at your reply, his voice gruff as he drained the last of the contents of the amber liquid within the bottle. He sighed in contentment as the alcohol hit his stomach, enjoying the slight buzz it brought to him.
“Do you dance, Zoro?” you asked him curiously, arching up your eyebrow to him.
“No,” he replied immediately, without a semblance of hesitation from within. You giggled at his hasty reply, urging your body closer to his position on the sand.
“Not even for me?” you pouted playfully.
“Not even for you,” he nodded without looking at you, exhorting a crease in your brows in response.
“Oh,” you replied, shifting your body back away from the close proximity to the swordsmen.
Zoro was one of the Straw-Hats you found it the most difficult to build rapport with; his gruff exterior intimidating for the cheery and jovial attitude you brought to the crew. Luffy immediately took a shine to you, bouncing off each other’s perpetual warmness to spark joy throughout the crew. Nami began her relationship with you slightly more standoffish, but her exterior cracking the more you hyped her up with subtle jabs and challenges. Your favourite of the challenges you had put to her included: placing a wager on whether she could literally steal the pants off a marine without them noticing, which she absolutely could; a sight to see for the Straw-Hat crew to enjoy together.
Usopp enjoyed confiding in you with his insecurities, prompting a more mentor-mentee relationship to develop between the two of you as you navigated throughout his fears and worries in your travels. Sanji was different. He flirted hard with both Nami and you, as the only women on board. Nami would absolutely not entertain his flirtations in the slightest, whereas you would always reflect the flirtation back onto him; causing a red hue to rise upon his cheeks in response. Everything was always playful with him, never taken further than a brush of a lip upon your knuckles, or a warm rub of the shoulders to comfort your crewman.
That was your role: ships chief negotiator and guidance councillor, building rapport and comradery through playfulness and joy. Zoro was yet to crack under your cheery disposition, which prompted you to seek him out this evening; praying he would finally warm to you. Truthfully, you had begun to develop feelings of great fondness for the swordsman. The way he protected the ship as a loyal knight would to defend the honour of the crown drew you to him immediately.
Zoro sighed, placing down the bottle and fully rising to a seated position as he continued to face away from you. You turned your gaze away from him and looked off to the side, bringing your hands to rest on your bare upper arms to bring warmth back to your skin. The departure of the sun’s rays always brought a chill to your body, the sea breeze carrying the cold and pricking to raise your hair follicles in response to it.
“I, uh-,” you began, turning back to look at Zoro’s face once again, “-I’ll just go then. Sorry to disturb your night, swordsman.” He turned back his face towards you, the subtle orange glow from the fire highlighting his features. You nodded with a smile, rose to your feet and turned to bring yourself back to the merriment of dancers on the beachfront.
Zoro’s eyes trailed you as you extended your hand to one of the men among the beach goers, effortlessly swooping to the sandy dunes and maneuvering your body to sway with them to the beat. You were all smiles and all touches; drawing your hands to the necks, shoulders, forearms, waists and hands of those who you danced with. Zoro watched as the men would effortlessly spin you, grasping their hands and bodies to hold you closer to them and sway to the beat.
Nami approached Zoro, sitting herself down on a tall log next to him as they watched you entwine yourself now within the arms of your captain; his cheery laughter prompting you to radiate the warmth within yourself and join with his joy.
“Not dancing, swordsman?” Nami asked him, quirking her chin to the side to acknowledge him. Zoro grunted in response, continuing to watch as Luffy spun you in his arms, capturing you within his supernatural arm extension to constrict around your waist.
Nami kicked her right foot against Zoro’s left thigh, prompting the green-haired swordsman to frown up at her position next to him.
“You know she likes you, right?” she asked him, narrowing her eyes and smirking down at his sat position. He shook his head slightly, looking back to the captain and the councillor as they swayed their bodies close together to the beat.
“What are you talking about?” he murmured with a growl-like undertone. Nami rolled her eyes at the swordsman and angled her chin upwards at the interaction occurring between the two Straw-Hats engaging in a variety of twirls and sways to the music together.
“The ship’s councillor, Mr Oblivious,” she teased him, prompting his scowl to deepen, “surely you’ve noticed by now.”
Zoro shook his head at her, prompting Nami to roll her eyes with a long groan and maneuver herself to sit on the sand next to him; off the log she sat on prior.
“The way she is with you,” she commented, gesturing to you as you spun Luffy within your arms and trailed your hands to land on his waist, “the way she restrains herself with you.”
“Restrains herself?” Zoro asked, sitting upright and paying closer attention to the dance between you and Luffy, “what do you mean?”
Nami groans and sits closer to Zoro, nudging him with her shoulder, “watch them. Pay attention to her.”
Zoro rolled his eyes and began to narrow his gaze onto the way you were dancing with Luffy; all hands, swings and grazes: touches. Zoro’s eyes widened slightly as you laced your arms around the captain’s neck as he placed his arms around your waist, hoisting you into the air in a spin before you both collapsed onto the sand below; all smiles and laughter.
The swordsman shrugged his shoulders and continued to watch the interaction between you and Luffy; you placing your left hand on his right shoulder, he bringing his left hand over his front to clasp it around the back of your hand; both heads tilted back in laughter.
“Her hands?” Zoro asked, his monotonous tone raised in question.
“Yes,” Nami confirmed with a nod, “her hands, Zoro.”
Zoro shook his head, not quite understanding what the navigator was attempting to tell him.
“Look, Zoro. You are as clueless in navigating romance as you are in navigating a ship,” Nami groaned, placing her hand on Zoro’s left forearm, “she loves physically. She finds comfort in touch.”
“So?” Zoro asked, shaking his head, “what’s that got to do with me?”
“So,” Nami says slowly, rolling her head to lull back at the sky, “she doesn’t touch you, does she?”
Zoro furrows his brows in thought, shrugging off Nami’s grasp on his shoulder before trailing his eyes to zero-in on the Straw-Hat crew still dancing together. He recalls the way you have approached him so far; always with a small gift to present to him: a beer, a plate of food, a tool he required for maintaining his swords. You would sit close enough to him to be actively in his presence, but without making any physical contact with him. Praising his swordsmanship as he practices movements and motions above deck, you would watch him while notarising specific items you would need for the next upcoming adventure. All his thoughts falling back to you expressing your comradery with him in every way apart from physical.
He watched as Sanji returned from the vendor, an empty beer bottle clasped in his firm grip. He watched as Sanji placed the beer bottle on the sand next to him and extended his right hand out towards you as an invitation to dance while simultaneously hoisting you to your feet from your position on the floor. Zoro’s eyes widened before narrowing as you accepted the chef’s invitation with a wide smile and allowed yourself to be thrust flush against his body; legs lacing themselves together to join at the hips, swaying and tastefully gyrating to the rhythmic guitar.
The chef spun you in his arms, turning you to face away from him while circling both his and your arms around himself and continuing the sway. You both would take small steps to the left and right before Sanji effortlessly spun you twice to face against you once again. Zoro ignored the way his chest began to feel heavy under the weight of him viewing you both dance together, his breath hitching as Sanji’s hands wove themselves against your hips with a warm blush creeping up the chef’s face. Zoro couldn’t tear his eyes away from the movement of you reaching your hands up in the air and raking your fingertips against your forearm as you allowed Sanji to manipulate your body as an instrument of artistry.
“You’re an idiot,” Nami sighed, Zoro tearing his eyes away from the dance between you to scowl again at her.
“What are you talking about, Navigator?” he growled under his breath.
Nami smirked, turning her gaze to the captain as he waved her over towards him with a beckoning gesture. She placed her right hand on the dunes below, springing herself to her feet in a swift motion. Reaching an arm out towards the swordsman and grasping his left wrist, she pulled him to his feet and stepped into his intimidating proximity to utter in a low tone, “the sooner you realise you like her back, the easier it’s going to be for everyone.”
The navigator smirked, turning away from the standing swordsman to bring herself into the outstretched hands of her captain, laughing as he spun her into a dance again.
Zoro was left perplexed, not really certain what he should do with the nonsense spurted from the navigator. He found himself stalking the perimeter of the dancers slowly, keeping his eyes trained on the chef and the councillor as they continued to embrace one another.
He hadn’t given much thought to romantic encounters of late, training his body through strength and agility to become the world’s greatest swordsman to finally beat the title away from Dracule Mihawk. Seeing the way you swayed with the chef, now arching your back up into his torso and falling your hands slowly to find the back of the blonde’s neck with small shifts in your hips, he couldn’t help but picture you performing those movements with him.
You were always so careful with him; so cautious to not cause him any discomfort as he slept, ate or trained. The way you so cautiously and playfully asked him to dance, only for him to immediately shoot you down weighed heavy on his heart now, the pit growing stronger the longer you remained in the blonde’s arms.
Zoro found his teeth clenching as he watched Sanji lean his head against your neck, his lips almost meeting your clavicle as he raked his arms over your back and held you in a tight embrace, flush against his body as he spun and dipped you. You arched your back further, keeping the chef’s body against you as you leaned into him. The swordsman never felt the desire to study how to dance rise within him. He was now regretting never learning how at this very moment.
The tempo of the guitar began to slow, bringing the dance to a close. You and Sanji broke away from each other, laughing and applauding the musicians in appreciation of their craft. Zoro’s eyes beamed on the chef reaching his right hand out in search of your own, bringing your knuckles up to brush against his lips with a gentle caress. A melodical giggle presented itself through your lips, a coy smile drawn to your features as a small pink blush spread across your nose and cheeks.
Zoro needed to hit something; something that doesn’t matter to the performance and smooth sailing of his ship or crew. A growl released itself from his lips as he briskly began his descent towards the ocean shore, away from the view of the gathering of individuals dancing together around the fire.
“Thank you, Sanji,” you laughed as he released your hand from his grasp.
“Any time, love,” the chef replied, his yes falling on the ship’s navigator as she cheered for the musicians gleefully. You trailed your sites to follow his, looking at your orange-haired crewman.
“You going to try Nami again?” you quirked your head up at him, his eyes falling back to you in response to your question.
“After the bitter taste of rejection the first time?” he smirked with a light chuckle, “not in the slightest.” You scoffed at him, turning to view the crowd again; searching to locate your green-haired crewmate.
“He went down to the shore,” Sanji spoke beside you, a knowing smile drawing to his lips, “just in case you want to face your own rejection a second time.”
You rolled your eyes and lightly tapped Sanji’s shoulder to reprimand him, “I’ll tell you what, chef-.” His gaze softened in your addressal, nodding for you to continue on; “I’ll go get the swordsman and face my rejection, if you go to our navigator and face your own. Deal?”
You held out your right hand as indication for him to shake it. He clasped your hand within his own in a the perfect balance of a gentle but firm grip, uttering; “deal.”
As your pact was sealed, you turned from your blonde chef and walked down the dunes towards the shoreline as Sanji shook the hair away from his eyes and huffed out any inhibitions preventing him from approaching the navigator with an offer to dance.
Returning back to the log with your equipment laying against, you reequipped your cutlass and in its scabbard around your waist as you began your trek towards the foam of the ocean as it waded against the shore.
You brought your hand up to your brow as you narrowed your eyes in search for your green-haired, ear-pierced swordsman; falling your sights onto his as he effortlessly maneuvered himself while wielding three swords in a flowing movement. Your gaze softened as you watched him spin slowly with the blades, brandishing them with complete control and fluidity.
Gasping, you could almost see his movements slow in motion; focussing on his firm grip on the blades as his eyes bore down in complete concentration and control. You zeroed in on the flex of his forearms as he brandished his swords outwards, sweeping them throughout the air and halting them outwards, facing their tips to the sky.
Sitting yourself down on the dunes, you placed an elbow against your knee and cradled your face in your palm; watching the swordsman as he continued to flourish his skills with his blades outwards and inwards; the wave’s gentle crashing against the beach the soundtrack to his movements.
Time seemed to stop and slow as you watched him brandish his blades, spinning and turning with the perfect combination of control and ferocity. You couldn’t get enough of him, tilting your head and taking your bottom lip between your teeth as you unabashedly gawked at him.
“Don’t think I don’t see you there, Councillor,” Zoro called to you, his voice slightly muffled by the blade clutched between his teeth. You jolted your body back, unclenching your teeth from your lip as you looked down in shame.
“Apologies, Swordsman,” you spoke in a low tone, forlorn as you began to rise to your feet to turn back away from him. He took his third sword away from his lips and sheathed it at his side along with the other two in their scabbards.
“I didn’t say I minded your gaze,” he confessed with a smirk, trailing behind you in his approach.
You halted your retreat, turning back to face him once more with a furrow in your brows and a quirk in your jaw. His smirk softened a little as his eyes met with your own. You shook your head as you stepped closer to him, still remaining out of his reach and general proximity.
“I can’t get a read on you, Zoro,” you admitted with a small nod, “you either hate me more than anyone else among the crew or you’re completely indifferent towards me as one would be a complete stranger.”
Zoro took a step towards you once more, stalking forward and bringing his body fully into the sphere of your personal space. You chose to not budge or maneuver your body away from his, tilting your head to bring it upwards and quirking it to the side.
“Fight me,” he uttered, his eyes half lidded as he spoke in a low tone.
“What?” you furrowed your brows in question, shaking your head a little while floating your eyes between his two brown orbs through your eyelashes.
“Fight with me, I should say,” he smirked as he reached his left hand forward, initiating first contact between you as he clutched your right hand in his firm grip.
“Zoro-,” you began, trailing your gaze away from his eyes and looking at his hand placed against your wrist. He took a closer step into you, bringing his right hand up to clasp your wrist; dragging his left hand to lace themselves within your fingers.
“-I won’t dance,” he uttered in a low, monotonous tone; trailing his eyes to your fingers as he smoothed over your wrist, “but I can fight.”
He stooped his head downwards, his eyes closing at the proximity while smoothing over your skin with his thumb, rotating in gentle circles.
“If this be the only way I can draw you close to me,” you whispered lovingly up into his face, “I will gladly cross blades with you.”
A small smile draws itself to the side of Zoro’s lips as he reopens his eyes, seeking your own eyes to hold his attention and affection.
“Draw your cutlass, Councillor,” he murmured lowly, leading you down to the coastal shore by your hand to place your shoeless feet on firmer flat sand. He reluctantly released you from his grasp, turning away from you to retract his blades from their scabbards.
“I am no match for your skill, Swordsman,” you uttered while retracting your blade from its place against your hip and raising it, “but I will do my best to keep up with you in our dance.”
He quirked his head to the side with a smirk on his features, placing his third sword between his teeth once more. You drew your sword up to your face and held your non-dominant hand out to the side to ready yourself for his relentless attack.
Charging at you, his arms drawn back; you side-stepped him as he thrust his right sword at you. Continuing to avoid and evade his attacks, you circled to reach behind him to strike. He leapt within the air and spun his legs outwards to retreat from your advance.
Circling back around and side stepping your attacks, he brought his torso closer to you; the large gash from his dual with Mihawk pulling your attention to his chest. He followed your gaze, halting his next movement as you stopped your own.
He stepped closer to you, parting his lips to drop the white blade from his teeth and fall it to his open and awaiting hand. You flit your eyes up to search his as he spun and nudged his legs toward you, his swords now all clasped in his hands. You widened your eyes in shock as he began to sweep his blades at your feet, prompting you to flee from his advance towards the ocean away from him.
You jumped a little as your toes were met with the cool salted water, prompting you to lose your concentration slightly at the shock. You felt the blunt end of a blade snap itself against your dominant hand as a small reprimand at your action, bringing your sights away from the waves and back to the swordsman in front of you. He continued to trail you in a circle, lowering his body towards the ground as a predator would stalk its prey.
“See,” you said, flicking your sword down at your feet while circling your body away from the water, “I’m absolutely no match for you with blades.”
Stopping his relentless pursuit, he drew his body closer to you and swept his three blades off to the side.
“And I am no dancer,” he smirked before falling the small twinge of a smile from his lips.
You shook your head at him, a small smile pulling at your lips at the interaction. You continued to hold the distance between the pierced swordsman and yourself, raising the tip of your blade at him to halt his advance. He trailed his gaze, holding firm to your every movement in preparation for an oncoming attack.
“You can topple marine bases, slay enemy pirates, collect high bounties with ease,” you taunted him, narrowing your eyes as you gestured to his body with the tip of your steel, “but you cannot handle partnering a woman in dance?”
He growled in response, his eyes narrowing at your taunt; “if you want to be swept off your feet with crude gyrating and twirls, go back to the blonde chef you like so much.”
You dropped your smirk, widening your eyes at his comment and flourished your blade off to the side in a sweeping motion.
“Is that what you would like, Zoro?” you asked him, reducing your voice to little above a whisper, “to have me thrust into the arms of another?”
Zoro’s jaw tightened behind his lips, his teeth clenched firmly at the accusation. He offered no verbal response, prompting your brows to twinge a little in sorrow. You shook your head and flourished your cutlass, placing it back into your scabbard in a swift movement.
“So be it,” you said with a curt nod, bowing in a deep curtsey to the swordsman, “thank you for the invitation to cross my steel with yours, but I fear our little spar draws to an abrupt close.”
“We’re not done yet,” he uttered darkly, approaching you in a slow prowl.
You rose from your curtsey, a small smile pulling at your lips as your eyes met once more; “I will go and seek out someone else to join in crude gyrating to the music performed at the fire side-.”
Your words caught in your throat as the swordsman retracted his blades within his scabbards, closing the distance between your bodies in a swift motion and towering his body over yours. He stooped his body towards you, his face being a whisper away from colliding with your own. Your breath hitched in your throat at his proximity, feeling a heat pool over and rise within your chest and flood your cheeks with a rosy tinge.
“I said-,” he tilted his head while whispering intimately close to your lips, “-we’re not done yet.”
A shudder broke through your shoulders, a small whimper falling at his tone escaping from between your parted lips. He reached his hand up to brush some fallen strands of your hair behind your ear, you leant your body in to his touch with closed eyes. Trailing his fingertips down, he clasped your chin to firmly prompt you to reopen your eyes to look up at him through your eyelashes; his own brown orbs half-lidded as they bore down on you with intensity.
Flittering your gaze between his eyes, you arched your back up to him; no longer cowering away from his touch but embracing it.
“You no longer desire me to return to Sanji-?” you asked him in a breath under a whisper, trailing your gaze to stare at his lips.
“-I desire you,” he uttered in a low tone, bringing his lips to graze along your jaw alongside his fingertips. Your eyes fluttered closed as the brush of his lips trailed upwards towards your ear, breath hitching as you felt his mouth press down tenderly at your jaw.
You brought your hands up to circle around his neck and toy with the hair at the nape of his neck, your fingertips brushing against the long gold-drooped earrings hanging from his left earlobe.
“You desire me enough to dance with me by the fire?” you gasped as he increased the amount of pressure against your neck, trailing open-mouthed kisses back up towards your chin and the corner of your lip. You felt him smirk against the corner of your mouth before he broke away from his subtle trail.
He pressed his forehead against your own, closing his eyes as he whispered his response; “no.”
Your shoulders immediately dropped, your arms releasing the swordsman from your grasp. You broke from his embrace and stepped away from his close proximity.
“You toy with my feelings, swordsman-,” you began, only to have your words be halted by Zoro.
“-I don’t know how to dance,” he chuckled, shaking his head while trailing his left hand to rest behind his neck, “I wouldn’t even know where to start.”
Shock overcame you, your gaze trailing the open shirt of the swordsman down to his thighs and calves before bringing them back up to his torso and flittered down to his forearms.
“Let me show you how,” you uttered hastily, bringing your body back within its earlier intimate proximity; holding out your hand as an invitation for him to grasp it, “just take my hand.”
He turned his gaze down to the ground, muttering below his breath; “what am I doing?” before he reached out his left hand to clasp around your right, allowing you to pull him into a closer proximity.
“I am your sword,” you informed him, placing his hand to the small of your back, “and you are my master.”
Zoro released a small growl at the words you uttered, truly relishing in his title you bestowed him.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself now, Swordsman,” you warned him playfully, placing your hands upon his shoulders with a small giggle. His grip settled on your waistline, smoothing his arms and hands over your hips.
Off in the distance by the side of the large bonfire, small plucked strings of the guitar trailed its way to melodically converge against the crashing of the waves to create a sweet harmony within each other. Both worlds began to collide; the ferocity of sword wielding against the subtlety of a gentle sway of your hips.
“Now,” you said, rolling your neck up to gaze into his half-lidded eyes as he held your attention, “wield me. Tell me with your body what you want me to do, and I’ll follow you anywhere.”
