@taylorswift @taylornation PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS!!!!!
21 things I’ve learned (from Taylor and others) before turning 21:
1. You are not the opinion of someone who doesn’t know you.
Throughout the 1989 and reputation eras i have learned that what people say to me and/or about that are false do not matter because they truly don’t know you nor care about you.
2. Failing is okay
Nobody is perfect. Seeing someone like Taylor be human and fail at things like all of us do put me at ease. Having failures can be a huge burden on me. It’s a journey to accept and understand that these are normal occurrences for everyone.
3. Self-love
This is something I haven’t 100% mastered, but something I am trying to overcome. I do not love my body like I should, however seeing people like Taylor learn to accept themselves in their own skin opens my eyes and inspires me to be able to myself.
4. Stop living in my fears
When going into public my brain is intoxicated with the fear of violence and negativity. This is something that is preventing me of having a good time in said setting I went to. Take a deep breath, trust your surroundings, and detox your mind.
5. I learned patience
Patience is a virtue they say, they’re right. It can be so hard sometimes. Having a much younger sibling in my life has given me an abundance of chances to work on my patience. As I go into my future and get a job as a special education teacher, patience is something I need! I’ll never be perfect, I gain practice every day.
6. Taking medicine is OKAY!!
Among many others in the world, I struggle with depression and anxiety. While having music such as Taylor’s give me ease and relation, it doesn’t make the feeling go away 100%. Some push others down for taking a medication for these said feelings and it made me feel worse about being prescribed them. Over the course of almost 4 years clean from self harm, I can say these medications are OKAY and do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
7. Learning from my past
Everyone’s story is different. I grew up in a broken home. My parents split when I was around 10-11 years old. That really opened
me up on who I am emotionally and how to deal with that as I became more aware of it. The scars on my heart from my past have given me lessons for my future.
8. Letting go
If you’re like me, when you love someone truly you get attached and it becomes hard to let go of them when its best fit to. It becomes loosing a piece of you, and that’s really difficult. Unfortunately we all have to do that in our lives, and the more it happens the easier it gets. Don’t let a friend, partner, or relative give you toxic energy. Let go.
9. What kind of fashion I enjoy!
Over the course of 21 years there’s been trends upon trends. We all tap into these trends and see what we enjoy and what we don’t. Having created my own style over the course of maybe 10 or so years I have established what I like myself in. That’s something to celebrate!
10. Not everyone is who they say they are...
With social media growing and growing, we all become connected with others through a screen. Especially through fandoms. This can apply in real life too unfortunately. People claim they like you, love you, care about you and then they leave you. Confused. What did the past however many months or years even mean!? People online could catfish you. Attack you. It’s a hard truth to face. I’ve learned the hard way.
11. Illness
Like Taylor, I have had illnesses in my family. One of which happened to be a parent. That was a hard thing to make myself accept emotionally. That was a journey I never thought I’d have to take. It made me realize that some problems aren’t worth wasting stress about when someone I truly care about is struggling more than I ever could be in that moment. I can luckily say my parent is cancer free. That journey was something.
12. Be excited!
As Taylor has mentioned before, she makes countdowns for things she’s excited for and so do I! This is something that gives me something to look forward to. Whether I’m having a rough day or even a good one. I like checking the calendar or my countdown app to see how many days until ______.
13. Where I stand politically
This past election (2017) was my very first presidential election. Not stating where I stand on that, but throughout the process leading to the election opened my eyes on my true stance. Having that knowledge is such an important chunk of knowledge to have especially now and the upcoming election in 2020. I’m so inspired by Taylor openly speaking out on her stances regardless of everyone else’s view points. So bold. (ps please register to vote if you haven’t and sign taylor’s equality act!!!)
14. Stop beating yourself up
When I make a mistake, say the wrong thing, I give myself such a hard time. My brain becomes toxic in the sense of “what were you thinking?!” or “how could you do that!?”. Over time I have had to ease up and remind myself that it isn’t the end of the world and to cut the toxic thoughts.
15. It’s okay to not know
Some people are up in arms about not knowing the answer to something. I feel like we all want to know everything. It’s 100% okay to ask a question. There is never such thing as a dumb question! Nobody knows everything.
16. Sweet is superior to sour
I love a good sour candy, HOWEVER something sweet and chocolatey is superior and that is the tea!
17. Live your life without a screen!
Technology has become more and more relevant the more I got older. As I grow with I have been able to understand it and learn how to use it, it sucks you out of life sometimes. Look up from the glowing screen. Live life. Put your phone away. Connect with someone or something.
18. Older music is SO good
I love finding new music all the time!!! I dove into older artists and previous decades and there’s soooo many amazing bands from times when I wasn’t around that need to be appreciated! I. love. Queen!!!!
19. Protect the environment!
Believe it or not, the Earth is changing and that is mostly on us. Take as much initiative as you can to save the Earth and make the place you live a better and healthier place! Any amount of effort makes a difference!
20. Speak no evil, Hear no evil, See no evil
Words to live by. Be kind to one another. Block out evil noise. Don’t give in and intoxicate your mind. Put yourself in an environment where there is no evil. Give yourself a good group of friends.
21. I love Taylor Alison Swift
When Taylor came around in 2006 her music was played on Radio Disney and I fell in love. I grew up with her music and was able to understand what she was singing about more as I grew with her. I’m so proud of how far we have both come in our lives. She’s provided so many lessons in my 21 years. Thank you Taylor, I love you so so much ❤️ I hope to thank you in person one day!
