Songs of the Sea
Impact Tolerance of the Human Heart Single
Release Date - February 24, 2024
Written and performed - Blair Dean
Trumpet, production & mastering - Martin Cantwell
Every structural engineer can calculate /
Any given structure’s weakest place /
And how much weight need be applied to make it fall apart /
But I want to know the impact tolerance of the human heart.
Aching with sorrowful sincerity and wounded resilience, Impact Tolerance of the Human Heart is the latest single by Songs of the Sea. With horns reminiscent perhaps of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, the great lyricism and melodies gel perfectly into a smart, earnest and catchy new classic.

Language of the Birds
Rivulets - Single
Release date - December 17, 2022
Cover Photo - Paul Rowland
Cover Design - You Kyoung Jung
lyrics and scratch vocals - Matthew Peipert
vocals, acoustic guitar and lap steel - Blair Dean
drums, atmospheric guitar, engineering and production - Gavin Bush
electric guitar, bass and arrangement - Jonathan Richards
backing vocals - Victoria Longhi
mastering - Martin Cantwell
Recorded at East Whickham Farm, UK
Written in Oregon in the winter of 2022, Rivulets captures some of the feeling of that heavy time in Omicron America. Dean is supreme on the vocals, energized by the singing of Longhi, and Bush and Richards on guitar bring majesty to the hard-done-by lyrics. Rivulets is a modern-day take on that old-fashioned kind of lonesome country music.

Paul Rowland & Signal Box
The Other Side - Single
Release date - December 14, 2022
Cover painting and design - Karen Versoza
poetry and recitation - Paul Rowland
guitar - Signal Box (aka Robin Anthony Coe)
all other instruments, production & mixing - MMA (aka Martin Cantwell)
The Other Side is a collaboration between a poet, a musician and an artist. Originally created for a group show in Tokyo called “Bridges”, it explores the human desire to find romantic intimacy and connection. In the show, the poet and musician played live, while three paintings (created in response to the three verses of the poem) hung on a wall in the space. Now, a multi-instrumentalist living in the U.K. has condensed, produced, and enhanced the work. Come with us now on this reimagined sonic and pictorial journey.
