i have some thoughts on unfinished works: 1 - if its marked incomplete and you also say in the notes that it wont be finished, thats fine. i might read it and drop a supportive comment in hopes the author may finish it! or i may just skip it if its definitely not gonna be finished. 2 - for me, its disappointing to see a fic marked as finished and the last chapter is like one line saying its abandoned :( and 3 - in my personal opinion, posting a chapter outline feels like the equivalent of posting a twitter thread to ao3? if that brings you joy and you like to read them and share them thats awesome, i hope the people who like that format find them! but its not for me
i think part of the problem for me as a writer is that i have literally no idea where the muse will go or if i'll come back to something. will it be finished? will it go on hiatus? no idea! it's shroedinger's update up in here, bro
i don't generally mark things as 'finished' unless they have an ending, tho--gotta hard agree there, it's disappointing to think something is complete when it's just never going to be worked on again
ngl i wouldn't mind posting an outline somewhere not on ao3 (like tumblr or google docs) with a link in the ao3 notes. i guess we'll see how those options shake out on the poll tho

okay i might have made this poll before HOWEVER i can't find it. So!
fanfic readers. if an author has an unfinished fic, maybe one complete chapter and then an outline of the rest, and they're not sure if they'll continue...

Copying over my comment from this post since the original now has reblogs turned off:
It's interesting to consider all of this in full context of how Toshiro is framed in the scene. The argument starts with Toshiro insisting that Marcille was wrong to revive Falin with black magic and that she should go back with him to face punishment from elvish society, then get their help in putting Falin to rest. Laios argues that they can actually help Falin, and that eating properly gives them the strength to pull it off, at which point Toshiro tries to shut Laios down by throwing his past frustrations in his face. When Laios eventually overpowers Toshiro, he attributes it to his party taking proper care of themselves, at which point Senshi shows up to offer Toshiro food. Meanwhile, Maizuru expresses frustration at Toshiro's behavior, and when Toshiro talks about his out-of-the-blue proposal to Falin, Mickbell questions why he would do something like that, while Chilchuck remarks that it's the kind of world he lives in. Every part of Toshiro's position here comes across as antithetical to the protagonists and the quest we're following them on. Even other characters present don't seem to think much of his behavior here. And, while playing that antagonistic role, we see him imposing those social standards on someone who finds them confusing and alienating. The result is that the primary lens through which the viewer is encouraged to see the scene is that of an autistic person being berated for not living up to a set of social standards, and in particular not meeting the standards of Japanese society. And while a Japanese audience might find it easier to understand why Toshiro thinks the way he does, the scene is very clear in sending the message that he is wrong and that, as previous comments noted, he's been stuck in a mindset that's hurting both him and Laios. The outcome of the fight suggests that Toshiro would benefit from learning to think more like Laios about food - and I think the audience is also meant to feel that Toshiro would benefit from learning to think more like Laios about people.
And the addition from @delvinanaris:
More than that, Toshiro’s last line of that scene—expressing his envy of Laios—suggests that he, too, feels that he would benefit from learning to think more like Laios about people.
Also here's the original tweet and a great comment on it:

i feel like fandom would really benefit from adopting the idea of readings, as in interpretations. anyone can interpret canon as saying anything on even the most tenuous of justifications. if you interpret a detail or moment in a particular way, great! but if someone interprets that thing in another way, even in a way which directly contradicts your interpretation, that’s also okay. multiple readings can exist at once without invalidating any of them
a lot of fandom drama seems to arise from people acting as if their interpretations are True or Factual in some way, when really all anyone can do is speak to their own interpretations & experiences. which is natural! and good! many voices with many interpretations and approaches is healthy and good. the trouble is depicting a reading, which is a very personal thing, as universally true, and then getting frustrated that others don’t interpret events the same way. & i get it, that can be annoying, especially if you think those other interpretations are misunderstanding the canon. but so much of the time it’s just a different reading, taking into account details you might not have noticed or maybe just viewing them in a different light, informed by different life experiences & values & everything else that goes into a personal interpretation of a creative work
by trying to depict One Single Reading of a text as Correct, fandom loses all the nuance of interpretation & also just turns everyone into a bunch of rabid raccoons fighting over different ways to look through the same kaleidoscope

oh i forgot what i came here to ask.
dungeon meshi fandom, can someone give me a better insight into whether or not shuro was more prepared to revive falin than laios and marcille and friends?
like... shuro was going off about how they shouldn't have used dark magic, right? and everyone else was like "well if YOU were in that situation, you would have done the same". which, yes, agreed. but would shuro have gotten into that situation to begin with? all of them were racing the clock to get down to the lower levels before falin digested, but i assume they all knew that they'd need animal blood/tissue to revive her even if she wasn't fully digested. so like... what was the plan? did shuro have one? was he planning to bring her remains closer to the surface for the dungeon revivers/corpse takers/whatever they are? or did he somehow have a supply of animal meat to use? do you think one of his attendants had a bag of holding filled with meat or something?? shuro wasn't eating regularly but they clearly had food, so how much did they have??? were they ready to do a full resurrection????

wait wait wait. was the elf guy talking to falin.... or was he talking to the dragon inside of falin??
it seemed like he was awfully familiar with falin and i couldn't figure out how that could be if falin has always or almost always explored with her party, but it would make so much sense if the so called mad mage could commune with the monsters and was talking to the red dragon through falin

AU where the real reason Damian has a grudge against non-blood brothers is because a long time ago Talia told him Jason was his brother and Damian loved him for that but then Jason "abandoned" him (left the League and seemingly forgot about him) and Damian has been holding a grudge ever since
Meanwhile Jason either (a) lost his memories of his time in the League prior to being dunked in the pit, or (b) he just believes that Damian had been too young at the time to remember and so he doesn't bother bringing it up

for the cuddle/fuck spores idea:
parasitic plants that use this to their advantage, making people… suggestible in order to spread seeds. the seeds could kill the person slowly, (it feels really good) feeding off their nutrients and eventually getting planted when the person is buried, originally evolved to affect animals, didn’t take cremation into account) then if you travel with another person you’re less likely to get infected, having a time with the other person instead.
i’m sure someone could have the seed removed, but what then? feeling empty and doing drastic things to get the feeling again?
or even some company extracting the spores and selling it without proper testing (interpret as you wish)
zombie ant fungus zombie ant fungus
something parasitic but it's specifically evolved to cause pleasure OOF
ohhhhhhh the company part is giving me big alchemax in spiderman 2099 vibes, like. harvesting and synthesizing pleasure pollen to create rapture??? magnifying the permanent changes, making it so that the infection causes a transformation so deep in the body/cellular structure of the infected individual that it changes their genome? i could see it.
even the idea that these chemicals are marketed as "love potions" when in fact they're just highly addictive and incredibly damaging... love it

there's something on my mind okay lemme see if i can tease this out
when someone takes a bullet for you, they sacrifice their health and safety for yours. they are using their body as a shield to protect you. it's not quite the same as them hurting themself directly, but it is a sort of martyrdom, a sacrifice--they're saying "my body means less to me than yours." it's the "i would give up all of myself to make sure you live" of it all
.........................batman is like this with his kids, 100%. there's no doubt about it. he would give up his body, his health, his safety, for any one of his children in an INSTANT...
...physically.
there's another aspect of it, another kind of sacrifice, that bruce will absolutely not give. which is that he will not bend or break his morals for his children.
which i find interesting because, for most people, there's a line between "right" and "wrong" that, if they're pushed hard enough, they WILL cross. yes, it might be a sacrifice. yes, it might be martyrdom. it might cause them untold pain, it might even change them in a fundamental way. but if that's what it comes down to, they'll do it, right? if it means that their loved one can be whole and hale and happy, that is a sacrifice they will willingly make.
and batman, bruce... he simply won't cross that line.
jason is angry at bruce because there's a dissonance there. bruce would take any number of knives or bullets or hits meant for his kids, but he won't take a hit to his rigid moral stance. he won't kill, refuses to--he will never cross that final line. not even if it'll give jason peace, or if it'll save one or, hell, all of his kids. there's a piece of bruce that batman will never give up, no matter how many of his other actions are done in service to his kids.
to have a man so willing to sacrifice his own life and limb but at the same time completely and categorically REFUSE to come down from his moral high ground... i can see how that would be frustrating, especially to jason, who has only ever wanted to be loved. jason, who was most likely abused and most DEFINITELY neglected, even by the mother that he loved more than anything--jason, who finally thought he found a family who loved him enough to make a difference, enough to change his life, enough to give him robin, magic, flight, enough enough enough.
it just... after becoming robin and finding a family and dying horribly at the hands of a mass murderer who always escapes justice at the last second, a man who will never fucking change... after all of it. to know that bruce wouldn't or maybe couldn't do this one thing that would make an actual difference...
yeah. i get it.
