I love how great chickens are for accidental comedy.
One of our chickens has an unusually melodious voice. She greets my wife with sweet dovelike coos. When she’s excited by treats, instead of normal cackling, she does happy little burbling clucks. Her eggsong has dignity, believe it or not. She sounds like she belongs in an ASMR video on a fucking tradwife cottagecore aesthetic blog.
Whereas another of our chickens has an unusually harsh voice, and her eggsong sounds like she’s trying to invent a new subgenre of heavy metal
when they happen to both be on the nest at the same time, bless their fluffy bottoms, it’s hilarious
I got even more colorful stuff now >:3
You want patterns that look like ice cream? I gotcha. You want primary colors? I got that too! Eye-hurting rainbows, you say? Here ya go!!!
Check it out!
People underestimate how much it fucks you up to be subtly excluded as a kid. I would try to talk to my classmates and be met with disinterest or annoyance. The one friend I had, who I clung to and nodded along to his every word, had other friends he liked just as much or more. And his other friends didn’t care for me at all.
I look back at pictures from the time and see how separated I was from them. I remember knowing I was different. I remember posing questions about the world to the girls playing next to me and realizing that they had never asked the same ones to themselves. That the ways we thought couldn’t be more different.
I kept myself amused with my own fanatical stories and musings in my head. I would wander the playground on a circular path, imagining a friend and being sorely disappointed when it didn’t feel as real as I’d hoped.
There was a bubble separating me from everyone else, thin, and nearly invisible, but with a pearly sheen you could catch under the right conditions. I knew it was there, they knew it was there, and it changed me
If you've been keeping up with my mom's chicken hatch livestream, you might get this running gag that started all the way back in 2010.
One of our little babies made a rather heroic pose, and someone watching said it reminded them of someone from French or Spanish history. (I can't quite remember who it was, I just them saying that it looked straight out of an old poster.)
I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard
