it's like a month and a half later (i think) but it's here! this blog passed a couple milestones in the last few months and i'd like to celebrate at last with a little casual giveaway >:)

i'm still going through a weird art funk, but i'm happy to offer an experimental color portrait of your character, like these for example:

28. Did they get into trouble as a child/teen (in school or otherwise)?

Ugh, no. Grace spent her whole childhood waiting for her mother to come home and tell her how good she is, how smart, how helpful, how hardworking. When that didn't happen, she sought validation from external sources - mostly adults, like teachers, employers, etc. - who praised her for her intelligence, her reliability, and her kindness. The more praise she got, the more she wanted to please.

Only now, as an adult, is she trying to start putting her needs first and not worry so much about pleasing others.

But there are still those times when Mason says "good girl" to her in the heat of the moment and it never fails to make her—

First of all, obsessed with the angst potential of this and can't wait to see how it comes up in canon. 😩 See my long ass answer below the cut.

So: does Grace want to be a vampire? No. She wants to stay a human and live a human life. With her extensive research background and science acumen, the thought of what processes would occur to her body is fascinating to her, but also very scary. Ever since her blood was changed by Murphy, she feels almost peripheral to her own body. Like there are things happening within her that she can't control. And that thought is terrifying.

But...

Does being a vampire mean an eternity with Mason? Does it mean that she stays youthful, like him, that she doesn't wither and grow old and force an inevitable separation as he stays the same and she… doesn't? Does it mean they can be together, that they want to be together, for as long as they both shall live (forever)?

If the answers are all yes, then, given the choice, she would do it.

6. Do they own a pet?

They do not. That pet would unfortunately not enjoy a great quality of life, considering how often the Detective is away from her apartment lol. In an ideal world, she'd have a little cat to keep her company, but alas. It's not meant to be.

9. What is their relationship with their mother like?

It's very wary and lukewarm. Grace doesn't have open hostility towards Rebecca, but she feels tired and suspicious and sometimes a bit annoyed at her presence. To Grace, her mother's reappearance in her life is more an inconvenience than anything else, though she doesn't hold any major resentment. She tries to remain professional and not make things awkward for the rest of UB.

It hasn't escaped her notice, however, that Rebecca is hoping for a relationship and acting all sad puppy when Grace doesn't welcome her with open arms only NOW that Grace's work and Rebecca's work overlap. Before Grace worked for the Agency, Rebecca continued to be MIA. Now that it's convenient for her to see her daughter more often through work-related means, she's all about building the relationship. Coincidence, no?

(Sorry, did we say Grace doesn't hold any major resentment? Because - lol.)

Other than that, no, sadly. If there's anything Rebecca has that she could've passed on to her child, Grace is unaware of it. Though she has her suspicions…

Chapter Summary: Kat wants to know what would happen if the barrier breaks.

Excerpt:

“Memories are different for you, aren’t they?" Kat says. "Not the old ones, the ones you can’t remember, but the ones now. You don’t try to hold onto them.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, you don’t have photos, or mementos, or sentimental things.” 

“You noticed that?”

“I notice you.” He’s practically all she sees. Does he not realize that? “Or maybe you do have them and just don’t display them.”

“No, you’re right. I don’t have them.”

“I don’t hear you reminisce with the team about the past either.”

“We do sometimes, but honestly, a lot of it blurs. I guess I just live in the moment.”

She studies a loose thread in the seam of his sweatshirt and wonders if maybe he’s not just being difficult. Maybe the stories of becoming are the ones that stick: growing up; navigating friendships, and relationships, and the world; change, and discomfort, and loss, and pain. Maybe memory is just another way of reaching for immortality, desperately trying to hold on, because someday, it’s all going to end.

Except for him—it won’t. 

“What about things you want to remember?”

“I carry them up here.” He taps his temple. “But there’s plenty of stuff I just don’t care about enough to remember.”

The implication stings, though he probably didn't mean it that way.
