when a client comes in to therapy for the first time, they’re often nervous, scared, don’t know what to expect. i like to use a very simple explanation for what the process is like.

people are like jigsaw puzzles. all our parts fit in a certain way. but sometimes someone or something moves the puzzle or rattles the box, and the pieces move out of place. that’s when you come to someone like me, and we work together to put the pieces back in their places. and we might even find that some of those pieces actually belonged somewhere else!

indigo reminds me of this analogy. namjoon has spent his twenties with bangtan, as a leader, as a member, as a representative, as a role model, as a performer, as an artist. and he’s had to balance all of that with who he is off stage, off camera - regular guy namjoon who hangs out with family and friends, reads, loves art, spends time in nature. he has to make sure that the whole sum of who he is, all those puzzle pieces, can fit together. he has to figure out how to make sure that all the pieces are actually part of the same puzzle. this cannot have been easy, and he has been open and vulnerable in his music, with his words, about his journey.

indigo feels like the culmination of that process, that journey to fit every piece together to shape his own understanding of who namjoon, the person, really is.
