Trying to get out of a rut... Finally put together a draft of a comic I have been thinking about for a while. It's centered on the shenanigans of my husband and dog. Well, Dogs - plural, but mostly focused on our Great Dane, Duke.

My husband 'talks' for the dogs and has 'conversations' with them. I often am left with tears rolling down my cheeks and my abs hurting from laughter at these two and the 'conversations' / Interactions they have.

Hopefully I can get my crap together and start making these on the regular to share. I'm already working on the second one, so we'll see. Perhaps more research into which webcomic platforms is needed.

🐕🐈 Follow up on my pet portrait work. This is my second one completed in a more realistic style. Getting it packaged up and ready to send!

Doing work that is more realistic of a pet for someone is a bit stressful, but also really cool when it turns out well. I think the best advice I got from a skillshare teacher was to just give the 'impression' of what you are looking for. So not every tiny detail is captured, but enough that you can see what matters about the subject (I am so sorry as I cannot remember who the teacher was - and wIsh I could afford skillshare to be able to login and find out). :(

For the first time since starting to illustrate stuff for others and hoping to become more someday: I feel like I might actually be more than just an illustrator creating what others imagine or want.

I'm sharing the colored draft of a piece I am working on for just me. No one else, no commission, no book, no purpose other than to say something important to me in an artistic way.

I guess drawing all those story and video game characters as a young person paid off in some way. I want to change how the words/things are represented, but this was a start and I wanted to share now as I might not have the gumption later when I overthink it.

I'm curious what you guys think when you look at her.

The heart of kintsugi - I am thinking of this as celebrating the bumps in life. I did this in my sketchbook so I wouldn't forget, but I'd like to expand on the idea. I wonder what each of our 'hearts' would look like if we were to repair it with gold like we do with a broken keepsake or cup?

I don't know about you guys, but my heart is so tired and broken. Everything that's happening with conflict everywhere, so many people - myself included - who struggle to make ends meet, and have bills we're not entirely confident we will be able to pay, so many loved ones and friends passing, and hate and divisiveness everywhere, it's enough to make you want to escape to a deserted island somewhere.

Myself personally been the victim of burglary and theft (three times in just over a week). I wake up every morning in a panic, afraid my bank has been cleared out or something else will have been taken. I am just so over this BS, and feel so tired and worn down lately - which would also explain my recent stint in the hospital ( yay, more bills).

Its hard to try and be the positivity and love I hope to see in the world, but (damn it!) I will prevail! I am sending this shout out to anyone who also has a tired and broken heart. We will mend it together - one positive, caring and compassionate act at a time -- And lots of pretty or interesting pictures, as that's about all I can do on tumblr.

I personally think if we can focus on making positivity and compassion the center of our own little worlds, somehow each will all start to overlap and we will see more good and happiness everywhere we go. I am convinced we can do this - like blanket immunity, we will be able to handle the few assholes if we can all just get out of tired, crabby, asshole modes ourselves.

My first realistic pet portrait! I painted this for my kids' bonus mom's birthday. Her precious ball of fur is named Pickles. I wish I would have been able to put a shadow or something, but painted as ordered. :) Thought I would share as I was pretty proud of this one, given I'm less a traditional watercolorist and more an illustrator (so far anyway). 😔I have been painting a lot of Iris these past few weeks. I have been painting so many, because they are the first thing I think of when I think of my Aunt Kathy. She passed away just over a month ago. She was a wonderful woman - one of the best! She worried for and looked after so many. She was an advocate of self-care and good mental health long before it was fashionable. She is so dearly missed. I hope there is some wonderful afterlife, as I am sure she will be there doing what she can to make it an even brighter place. 😇

While she was here, she used her amazing Auntie Powers, to check in with us younger generation of our family because she knew how hostile an environment it could be. She never turned her back on anyone that I know of, but rather she'd give you the last of what she had if she thought you needed it. She had such grace and poise, I always wanted to be like her.

She is the person I think of when I think back to the warm and loving arms of 'mommy.' She looked after me as a small child, and I spent a large amount of time with her and my uncle from 2-6yrs old. As a result, I was able to experience incredible motherly love and tenderness. Which I have carried with me, and tried to show all my kiddos - birthed by me or otherwise.

Her memorial was more of a chance for her church to preach their message and less about celebrating her life - her Whole Life. I mention this because is has really hampered the feeling of closure for me and others in my family, and thus we end up back at the top with me painting lots of Iris in her honor. I miss her so terribly, and I wish I had talked with her more over the past few years. I hope she knows how much I love her. Please remember to tell those you love that you do, and tell them often. You never know if you'll see them again.
