The post-episode 3 shift

FRESH POST!

So we were talking about how AMC's Interview with the Vampire Season 1 handles their choice of making Louis a black man in the early 1900s. This is a really cool change the show made in its AU version of IWTV, and it brought in a whole lot of subjects to explore that didn't exist in the books, making the TV show a very different work of art. But all the initial ideas for this show came from a cishet white man, and while he down the line had assistance from poc collaborators, I still think the show had areas where it could have done better with regards to some of the story beats, character arcs, and plot progression. I love discussions like this! Please talk to me about vampire chronicles! I live for it! I'm posting this now because I am disappointed that a few people seem to not be understanding several things I said. Maybe I said it unclearly, or maybe they're projecting and jumping to conclusions.

Kind of like how this poster does:

I deleted/banned every single comment on my videos that talked negatively about the show making Louis and Claudia black or deriding it for trying to be woke (and there were a bunch!). I delete block and ban all forms of hate speech. My channel is absolutely not a safe space for racists or bigots of any kind.

As you can see in the screencap, there is nothing in these comments that is about the race changes. These comments are talking about other changes the show made from the books and don't touch on race at all. The poster who screencapped them is jumping to the conclusion that these commenters liking the books better than the show automatically makes them racist, and that these are racist comments. And this screencap is specifically what I was referencing at the beginning of the other thread. Several people have said this now, that my YT comments section makes a safe space for racists. But these are not racist comments, and there is no evidence that the commenters are racist. This is projection and assumption. If you DO ever notice a racist comment on any of my videos, that I somehow missed, please bring it to my attention so that I can immediately delete and ban the user from ever commenting on my channel again.

But back to the show itself and my critique of it. I'm always here for talking about vampire-related writing! Let's go!

I still stand by what I said in my videos about the few issues I had with the show's scripts. If you watched my videos or follow all I've said about the show here on tumblr or elsewhere, you'll know how excited about this show I've been from the very beginning, how obsessively into it I am, following every aspect of production and behind the scenes news. You may even be in one of the multiple discord servers with me where we talk about the show constantly. There was much I really enjoyed about season 1, which I was outspoken about in my videos, and people keep seeming to forget. My videos had a greater percentage of positivity in them than negativity. But yes, I did have critiques as well, just like I do with every single piece of vampire media I discuss on my channel--it's the entire point of my channel!--and those mostly had to do with inconsistency in the writing.

What I've said is that the DRIVING FORCE of the plot wasn’t about Louis's struggles with chafing against society as a black man after episode 3, not that there was no more racism. I said he was obviously still immersed in systemic racism all around him, which the show showed us with visual details in the background, despite no one talking about them. This is fine, we don't need it spelled out for us. TV is a visual medium, and that's what the images are there for. But my discussion is about his character MOTIVATIONS on a writing level. His want vs need. His goal vs obstacle. If you're unversed on the techniques of story writing and plot structure, I recommend Blake Snyder's book Save the Cat as a crash course. In ep 1-3, for Louis, it was about being respected as a man equal to others among his society, the citizens of New Orleans, his colleagues and business rivals. Fighting for social opportunities that were limited to him because he is black. That story ends with episode 3 and a new story begins. I’m not saying this is a bad thing. I just said I NOTICED it.

After it all burns down, Louis stops focusing on society respecting him as a human being (which was ironic to begin with, because he’s not human anymore) and his driving plot becomes about making and keeping a family and such. Obviously race is still an element of that in a mixed marriage, but it’s not about his business or social standing anymore, these parts of his life that were SO IMPORTANT to him in the first three episodes. In the books, vampires stop caring about that kind of stuff the second they are made, but the show changed it to take Louis a few years to get there instead of it happening instantly.

Obviously racism doesn't magically disappear or stop mattering once he accepts his vampire nature (which Lestat kind of promises him it will), but it does shift to being a background element for what we see on screen. He is not focused on it anymore, when it used to be the primary driving force of his plot. We hardly even get to see Louis interact with (racist) society again til the finale (and I made this observation on episode 5, which the end-of-episode credits told us was written by a white person). For example, the police that come to their door are bigoted to him and Lestat because they’re gay, but meanwhile, they act completely colorblind. At this point, Louis’s character motivations are about fear of them being caught for murder, and his emotions regarding how Claudia is struggling with her eternal child body and lashing out--about keeping his family together. Not about his racial struggles as a businessman and citizen in outward society.

Yes, we all know there were non-white people in the writer’s room (thank god! Can you imagine?? If there weren’t any, we’d all have been raging from the very beginning! Did you read RJ’s episode 1 script draft before it got revised with the input of black/queer/female editors? OOF), but the choice to completely shift Louis’s driving character motivations away from his impassioned societal race struggle to something different after 3 episodes was part of the original season outline made by white people before any poc were brought on to the team.

And again, I didn’t say it was a bad thing, it was just something I NOTICED, and the way the show executed it felt very abrupt and clunky. Did I want the cops to not be colorblind and get in some racial digs and microaggressions while they were at Louis’s house? Ew no. But I did NOTICE that they didn’t do that, and how it was so different from the way Louis was spoken to by white people in the first 3 episodes. Did the white writer of this episode perhaps feel uncomfortable going there?

The season told two different stories for Louis, with an abrupt turn in the arc after episode 3. It didn’t feel like an arc at all, but a sharp angle. Starting with Claudia, Louis’s primary drives and character motivations completely change. He no longer wants to be an important businessman respected in society, he becomes “the housewife,” and never once seems to miss his desperately-fought-for social status at all. This comes back to what I said about the show being weakened by trying to shove in too much book stuff. Ep1-3 were all these cool new original ideas from the show with Louis having entirely new character motivations based on the show's changes to his background. They were naturally driven by what him being black in 1910 now meant. But after that story was done, it abruptly shifts back to more of how he in in the books, and trying to suddenly pull him back to his book personality/motivations/goals after giving us this whole new organically-evolved self in 1-3 was notable. I noticed it.

All in all, I think it probably would have worked much better on a writing level if it was treated as two separate mini seasons instead of presenting itself as an attempt at one coherent whole.

If you’ve been in the Cyborg 009, Tezuka, or Showa era anime community, it’s inevitable that you’ve encountered Zoutig(he/they)- even if you didn’t realize it. They own the majority of Cyborg-009 related fan blogs on Tumblr and a discord server. This is a problem because they are the most active member of an extremely small fanbase, making others that want to participate in enjoying Cyborg 009 inevitably interact with them without knowing, and it can also make people that know about their behavior avoid the fandom entirely just because of them. They do not explicitly state who they are on most of their accounts and many have interacted with them by accident. This can also risk putting others in danger of being accused of being friends with a bad person.

The purpose of this document is not to send harassment or threats their way, or even to deplatform them- but to bring awareness to their behavior which includes underage NSFW art, harassment, and grooming. This is not a doxx and we do not hope to find anything about who Zoutig really is, and neither should you. Everything is publicly available information. If you have had a bad experience with Zoutig, please DM us and we will update our document.

Zoutig, also known as Salty Puppy, Salty pupcake, or Prince Sorao, is an artist that focuses on showa-era anime and manga (showa meaning japanese cultural goods from the 50’s-80’s mostly). They are a shotacon, babycon, and toddlercon* and identify as a proshipper*. They particularly focus on the Cyborg 009 ship “47” (ship between Albert Heinrich [004] and Great Britain[007]) , which isn’t inherently strange, but they prefer using 007’s child design in their ship art. They can usually be easily recognized from their art style, obsession with Cyborg 009 and Fujio Akatsuka, and they occasionally speak in the Dutch language.

Before we dive into their history, we will list all the accounts they own so you can block them. We will NOT link their nsfw accounts, since we do not want to distribute possibly illegal material (although it is not real CSAM).

*Shotacon - male equivalent to Lolicon, attraction to young boys. Babycon and toddlercon - pretty self explanatory.

*proshipper is usually vaguely defined as someone that people shouldn’t be harassed for what ships they like in fandoms, however it usually means someone that thinks any form of ships or nsfw content is okay including content that sexualizes minors or incestuous or abusive ships in a (usually) fictional setting. Not all proshippers are the same or agree on the last part, but the majority do.

The Receipts - Vegas, Baby! (Sept 2016)

So, this ask made me realize I wanted to step out of order in the timeline and do a fun stand alone moment – the Las Vegas couples’ trip of 2016.

Now, the Las Vegas trip is interesting because it exists on different levels. There’s the simple didactic level of dates and events, but then there’s also the level of fandom distraction and after-event gossip. So, let’s go!

In September 2016 Chris and Jenny were in L.A., as his MA house had begun undergoing extensive renovations. While I’m sure there were also business meetings to attend, it seemed it was mostly to do with getting out of the way of construction crews.

Now, to set the scene before the short Vegas weekend trip: a lot of shit was going down in fandom, because Jenny’s twitter feed was painting a not so cohesive picture of the “loving” couple. They seemed to be there, but separately there. We’ll get into all this when I get around to writing up September 2016 in full. But, suffice it to say, a lot of discussion was going on. We were also on pins and needles because it had been announced she was doing one of her comedy shows on Saturday, September 17th at the Largo Theatre in L.A. Everyone was taking bets on whether or not he would show up.

Thursday, September 15, 2016:

In fandom: It was a huge day. HUGE, for Jenny. Perhaps you may or may not remember, Chris and Jenny attended one of his friend’s weddings in Rhode Island over July 4th weekend. Well, fandom knew he had been there that weekend, but we didn’t think she had. Not until this specific day, when a helpful Anon went to a certain blog (guess) to point out that there were photos on a wedding photographer’s page. Photos of Chris and Jenny there together. Thanks, helpful Anon who may or may not but in almost all probability was Jenny herself. Well, that was like the Hiroshima bomb of distraction for the whole weekend for the fandom. It was all we concentrated on, the dissection of those wedding photos which were by that point over two months old.

In social media: Jenny made an IG post of being in a hotel room that had a phone in the bathroom. She seemed charmed by this fact. She deleted the post the same night. (Sorry, I don’t have a screencap, but have seen it. It was nothing special. An old style phone on a wall). We should have known this was bait.

In reality that we did not know yet: Chris and Jenny, Tara and Jason, Scott and his bf(?) and Guillermo and his wife had flown to Vegas for a weekend stay at Caesar’s. The phone in the bathroom was in a Caesar’s suite.

Also, in irony I cannot make up, September 15th was Jenny and Dean’s wedding anniversary. You know, Dean, the man she was legally married to for the whole of round one.

Friday, September 16, 2016:

In fandom: We are still arguing over the ramifications and meanings of wedding pics that are over two months old. We have no clue.

In social media: It was quiet. Too quiet.

In reality that we did not know yet: The friends group is enjoying their weekend comped trip to celebrate the double birthdays of Scott and Tara. They are staying, once again, in suites and rooms at Caesar’s. Dinner is, once again, at Nobu in Caesar’s. After dinner the group takes in a performance of “O” by Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio

Saturday, September 17, 2016:

In fandom: What do you think we were doing? We were still arguing about those damned wedding pics.

In social media: It was quiet! Like the calm before a storm.

In reality that we did not know yet: The friends group (or only Jenny? this is murky) returned from Vegas back to Los Angeles. Before leaving, Chris had to take this promo pic, which would be released on the 20th.

Here’s where it gets interesting. That night was Jenny’s comedy show at the Largo Theater. No one turned up for it. Not Chris. Not a single member of that group who had just been with her for three days. Huh.

Then, on Sunday the 18th, shit hits the fan, at least for fandom:

So since it has been brought to my attention some rumours have been circulating about me, I just wanna make a few things clear.

First off, I did not supposedly stalk anyone's blog for years.

If need be, I can even provide my IP address (aka self-dox myself) to prove any screencaps to be false, but I'm nowhere near obsessive enough to check somebody's blog everyday. Like, sure, I might visit blogs of ex-mutuals every once in a blue moon out of curiosity, but contrary to popular belief, tumblr doesn't take up 90% of my time and at best, I would maybe lurk on COAR to read new confessions or refresh my dash once per day just in case non-active partners of mine have returned.

If anything, my time has been mostly comprised of going to work and grinding mobile gachas; in fact, should I notice I have replies to write, I will log in, throw my replies into the queue/save written replies in my drafts folder to queue later, and then fuck off to do other stuff. Honestly, provided someone has beef with me, it's unlikely I would know why unless my encounter with them on tumblr had been rather recent.

To my knowledge, I haven't harassed anyone off of tumblr.

Now, did I have spats with my own fair share of people over the eight or nine years I have been on this hellsite? Yes. Have I made vague posts about ex-mutuals, unintentionally ghosted others, privately vented to friends about people from the RPC I personally can't stand, and commented on COAR confessions? Also, yes.

But that being said, the only one I've ever sent anon hate to was myself and if I played a part in somebody deactivating their blog or quitting tumblr roleplay altogether, then that's certainly news to me, because I don't like participating in public smear campaigns, to the point where I even avoid name dropping certain users in my rules or PSAs I've made. Heck, the way I see it, I can only ever recall myself being relentlessly harassed/bullied, because when it comes to me for some reason, people on this site sadly don't know how to block and move on like normal people.

I also have never encouraged anyone to delete their blogs or chase them out of the RPC and have only ever reported one person due to the fact they would not stop posting about me/attempt to provoke me into engaging in drama on a site that we both frequent despite having me blocked; therefore, I have no idea where the narrative of me harassing people off of tumblr even comes from. Besides, I'm nowhere near popular enough to influence whatever following I have to dog pile on whoever I have grievances with, let alone have many people who would go to bat for me each time I'm being unfairly criticized. Honestly, the one time someone did call out my harasser, it was something I had no control over and they did so without my permission, to the point where I did privately tell them to stop url-dropping me and engaging with this person on my behalf... because again, I just wanted to be left alone.

Furthermore, I make it very clear to mutuals I've vented to that they don't have to unfollow/block roleplayers I've had bad experiences with... so I'm not sure if this is merely a case of the Mandela Effect rearing it's ugly head, individuals making up bad faith reasons to dislike me, or an issue of mistaken identity (especially since I'm likely not the only one who goes by the mun handle, 'Livi', and it has happened before where somebody had wrongly assumed a blog belonged to another person).

Of course, it's possible I could have forgotten stuff, as I have had more than three blogs over the years, so naturally, I won't remember all the OOC posts I have ever shared, let alone every instance before 2022 where I have been involved in drama... but regardless, I refuse to take accountability for things I have never done unless you personally come to me off anon with screenshots that provide evidence.

I was gonna say something angry but I realized quickly that that wasn’t what I wanted to say. As one of your ex friends I do care, I don’t check on your blog to see how you’re doing because I don’t care. Just because we’re not friends now doesn’t mean I don’t care now or didn’t care then. You’re free to delete this ask/ignore it but I just wanted to say my peace.

This took us weeks to sort our feelings on, so if you are checking Anon- I hope you see this.

First, let us say that we are not talking about anyone we still have as friends on Discord. We are talking almost exclusively about our former friends from the Survivor's Network, mostly mods.

If this is @circulars-reasoning , then you're right. You did care, and we thank you for that. We miss you, and we're sorry you get lumped in with the people you hang out with. We wish things could have been different, but they weren't. Whatever we say, it's not aimed at you. That said, we think it's time we talked about why we left in a more substantial presentation than vague posting. Because if this is a specific *dude*, then you should know how fucked up everything between us was.

Unfortunately, we only ended up modding for the Survivor's Network for a few months. When we joined, it felt like coming home. We had a brilliant mod team, we all had similar views and we worked very well together. We even got a new writing partner out of it. We were on top of the world. Working on the rules, creating a safe space and making things for the anti-endo community just a little more comfortable. Oh, and the voice chats! We had such a great time in those spaces. That's what we miss the most. But the atmosphere changed for us as our new Writing Partner began to enter awkward territory. We are no strangers to flirting and we are not opposed to enacting the rights of our open relationship, but this quickly became uncomfortable and emotionally manipulative. We have long been in silence as they are a huge name on Sysblr and were know no one would believe us over them. We do have receipts but for now we are choosing to keep them to ourselves. If the need is there, they will be released but we'd rather not have to paw through thousands of trumatic messages.

None of this is in any particular order, as our brain is very averse to revisiting the server these things happened in. But we do still have it, it and all the things said in it. We are going to place this list in bullet format and under a cut. You are welcomed to DM us any questions after this, but I doubt we will have straight answers as we're still scared to *actually* name them.

- Made our protective alter feel like a monster.

- Made us feel like we somehow cheated on them if we spoke in the SN before our private server.

- Used a situation I was venting about to try and make me feel bad after they "tried to help" by sending us a car part WITHOUT TELLING US. They used it to make us feel like we had done them wrong when we hadn't even known it was happening.

- Made our partner System feel like they were monsters.

- Tried to convince us that we were either ALL IN the relationship with this person, or all out. As in we either commit or we don't be friends.

- Pressured us to tell them any and every dark thing going on in our mind.

- Pressured us to make sure our protective Alter was never around when they were, shutting down to one word answers when certain alters would appear.

- Generally getting upset when we split new alters.

All of this and more in the space of three months. I cannot go back to the Survivor's Network because this personnas far as I know is still a mod there. They are older than me and manipulative as hell.

So if you *are* still watching my blog please note that your stupid little servers ended me in the hospital and into new psych treayment to deal with the scars you left.

We're are tagging this so it's seen. Ask us whatever, but I will not be giving a name until I can go through mentally and screencap everything. If you're asking yourself "Why now?"- It's because the alter that spit to protect us from this person finally gave us to okay. So here we are, telling the story. Believe me or don't I don't care.

I keep changing my art style.

I keep changing it mostly when things dont work out. and lately Ive been changing it a lot, thinking it’ll fix things. But it seems to me I just cant draw anymore. my arms get too easilly tired, I cant focus looking at screencaps for reference and nothing ever turns out as well as it used to for me. It feels like I used to so easilly draw tonnes of things, and it looked good. I wonder what I must have done to cause all of this. Because otherwise this is all out of my hands and I hate feeling that theres nothing I can do. I just suck now. Mourning the loss of any abilities I had. I just dont know what to do anymore and the thought of what my future looks like feels so bleak. For posterity I decided to post here some of my favourite art pieces regaurdless of style. Leaving out some that I posted recently to avoid redundancy. (Though I also deleted a recent post so I could post some of those here)

hiya! quick question. when making larger gifs how do you keep them from exceeding the file size limit?

i just know that usually more than 55-57 screencaps is going to exceed 10 mb in gif form, so i try to keep it at 55. sometimes i just load 60+ to see if i can get away with it, but i just end up having to delete frames, lol. i've noticed it also depends on how much "movement" the gif has or how bright it is, so if it's a dark gif or somewhat "still" gif it can definitely be more than 60 screencaps for a 540x480 gif which are mostly what i make

#idk if this makes sense. i personally think or to my experience a big gif can't be too long bc it will exceed 10 mb #at least for tumblr! u can get away with it on twitter bc the limit is 15 mb there #but then again i make gifs for twitter even bigger (800×800) so that they look decent #so i'll say stick to 55-60 screencaps per gif. if not u can always delete frames at the end!#also i'm sorry if this was sent a long time ago #my notifications are a mess always #answered

Banned from Furaffinity for drawing jokes / caricature / satire 7 years ago

Furaffinity always had serious issues and strange behavior toward its community. What happened over the past two days however is beyond what I think any of us would have ever imagined seeing someday. I'm not really sure how I can even translate the situation without people thinking I'm biased and exaggerating because it happened to me, it's one of those things you have to experience for yourself to fully grasp it.

They have now banned me and another artist I followed for 15 years and admire. Our only crime was making satire art… 7 years ago (in both our cases) plus my latest render in my case. All pieces were SFW and in no way sexual, literally intended as jokes and nothing more. After two thirds of a decade, during which the pieces were up and nobody once complained, a coordinated ban was conducted over what our past selves did at a time when there were probably no rules against it to begin with; In my case I had even forgotten that old sketch, initially I thought they mistook the age of a character in my recent works since I didn't even remember doing child characters (only did that one time and another joke I think).

From what I remember, this was essentially a joke about a similar artist who got harassed: I believe Subwoofer made a parody about animals eating babies and everyone started yelling at him because of it, I found the situation hilarious and made that drawing to honor it. Initially FA suspended me for one week over that sketch, citing how it was somehow cub porn… I'll let others deal with the mental gymnastics as they're far beyond me. Then they needed a reason to get rid of me for good, and so…

Yes: A parody with cartoon bunnies poking fun at the capitol insurrection on January 6th. The accusation, I kid you not, is that this image was promoting COVID misinformation along with QAnon… it also says they deleted some journals which I'm not even aware of. That render… is COVID… misinformation…

And to be absolutely clear, it legitimately wasn't even intended to support anything in any serious manner. As I said it was strictly parody with a silly story attached, mostly to poke fun at what went on. I did NOT claim the elections were stolen, that Trump was right, and in fact I legitimately believe QAnon is 90% crazy from the little I even bothered looking into that group.

This is a screencap for anyone who thinks I must be blowing this out of proportion and it couldn't have been like that. See for yourself: This is the reason they gave, the image they reference is the one with the same title. Let me know how in the heck I even said anything about COVID-19 in that 3D render.

The real motive they came after me is because I took Foshu's defense in that journal, against the people harassing them also for making a cartoon joke those same 7 years ago. I wasn't suspended for anything I said there however: The FA mods instead decided to look through my gallery and pick two jokes I made seven years apart. It was because of my stance there however, we both got banned at the same time and it was clear it came from the arguments we just had with the angry mob.

Though I figure worse is possible, I imagine this is one of the biggest abuses in FA's history. Both in what they try to interpret as being against their extremely vague TOS, as well as how they handled it. I'll see if anyone in the appeals will contact me after I explain the situation, but even if I get unbanned I'm unlikely to post there again: FA has gone completely nuts, everyone including the mods are acting like a cult on anything that is a social issue… not everyone as far as users go of course, but the platform at large has clearly become a nest for the most violent and delusional circles (just like Twitter).

I'm posting this to let everyone know it happened and I'll likely leave the place whatever happens next. But also to expose the extent of the abuse, in case anyone feels they can look into it and do some investigation; FA is of course its own private site and can do any insanity it wants, but for a community of its size I really wish someone out there could hold it up to a minimal standard. Inkbunny is the only one I trust any more, it's made some mistakes too but never anything like this… may it live longer than me and stay free no matter what the world's insanity throws our way.

Hi there!! Thank you!!! 🥺 I'm always happy to talk about gif-making! 💙 (I also just made a new tag for tumblr/photoshop help and some of my other mini tutorials)

I used a few techniques in this gif. So, I'll quickly talk about the typography + shapes and multiple blended gifs. But I'll go more in-depth on the delayed fade-in transition since, I think, that's the most unique aspect of this gif (I haven't seen anyone do it before, but I'm sure I didn't break ground here either lol). I didn’t expect to get so detailed but hopefully that’s a good thing. 😅 More under the cut!

If you’re not here for the typography and if you already know how to blend, skip to the end for the delayed fade-in transition effect. But since I’m not sure what you already know (and because I hope this can be helpful for others too), I’ll try to explain in as much detail as I can.

PART 1: TYPOGRAPHY + SHAPES

Here are all the specs for the typography and shapes!

The pen tool is my best friend for interesting typography. Just click to create a point and continue clicking to connect the dots with straight lines! To create a curve, you just long-press and drag your cursor until you get the curve you want. You can also use this tool to create paths, like wavy lines, and write text on them (I did this in the second gif of the same set).

PART 2: MULTIPLE BLENDED GIFS

There are lots of tutorials about how to blend gifs so I’m mostly just going to talk about the details for my gifs.

For context: I use the Timeline method — so I make my screencaps, load into stack, convert frames into smart object, sharpen, etc. [For any blending beginners: When you use Timeline to blend, it’s important to have the same amount of caps for each scene, otherwise, your gif will create duplicate frames for one scene while the other scene continues to move. This makes the animation look choppy/not smooth.]

Start with your base gifs as sharpened smart objects, then put them all into one canvas. If you don’t have a clear idea for your composition, my advice would be to make sure you have “Delete Cropped Pixels” unchecked when you use the crop tool. This will preserve the cropped out parts of your gif, so you can still use them if you decide to move things around. Do this all with the upper gif layers set to Screen, so you can see how the gifs will intersect and blend. Now, let’s talk about the coloring and blending modes I used.

THE BG: Let’s start with the background gif. I’m going to call it the BG (the one with Mulan grabbing Mushu from the sword and running away). I colored the BG as I normally would on its own. Since this was a rainbow set, I also made the blue pretty saturated. Whenever I blend, I always put all the layers per scene into groups. So I put the adjustment layers and the gif into a grouped folder. Keep this group below everything else and leave the group’s blending mode set to Pass Through.

THE FIREWORKS OVERLAY: This is the wide shot gif at the bottom. I colored this so the lighter portions (the reds and yellows of the explosion) were as vibrant as possible and the darker portion (the sky) was as black as possible. When you set the blending mode to Screen for blending, it’s important to have this contrast to make the blending as seamless as possible. The light portions are most visible when it’s overlaid above the BG. And because I made the sky super black, I didn’t have to erase the edges with a layer mask to blend it into the BG.

THE BW OVERLAY: Next is the black and white overlay gif (the one that fades in but I’ll go over that later). Color this however you like to do black and white coloring. I like gradient maps and levels. But remember, like before, creating contrast is crucial. Set this group to Screen as well and you can always go back to your adjustment layers and tinker with them until you like how the gifs blend! Here’s what it looks like broken down with the frames on their own and then blended on top of each other:

PART 3: DELAYED FADE-IN TRANSITION

So, this idea came about because I didn’t like how all the light areas of the smoke blocked Mulan’s face in the BG as she was running off screen. So, I thought, if the overlay explosion happened later, just as Mulan’s face goes off screen, it wouldn’t overlap!

Now, before I get into how I did it... remember how I said you need to have the exact same amount of caps per scene when blending, otherwise things get choppy? Well, that all kind of goes out the window here for two reasons:

Problem 1: We’re moving one smart object gif. Once you move a smart object gif layer away from the beginning of the timeline, the frame synchronization can go wonky if you’re not paying attention.

Problem 2: We’re using Timeline’s fade tool. It’s such a handy tool, but when you convert back to Frame Animation (which you absolutely MUST do if you do the bulk of your work in Timeline), you’ll see it: revenge of the duplicate layers.

I’ll go over how to mitigate these issues as I continue explaining. I’m going to reference the different colored lines and boxes in the screenshot below as we walk through the steps I took.

1. First, I moved my BW Overlay gif so it started a little later than the other gifs. You can see I moved it almost to the halfway point of the BG, where I placed the playhead (the vertical red line).

2. Problem 1 — If you were to export your gif right now and if you were lucky enough to move your gif to the perfect spot on the first try, your gif would look smooth. But if you didn’t move it to the perfect spot, you’d notice some choppy animation. Timeline does a weird thing with frame delays. You see this when you convert back to frames: some frames are at 0.07 sec and others are at 0 sec or something (that’s why we always have to reset the frame delay before exporting). I don’t know how to explain why this happens, I just know it does. But because of this, making gifs start at different points in Timeline creates gaps. The way I fixed this was by zooming in on the Timeline as much as possible. Then I kept clicking the next frame button while moving my BW Overlay over one frame at a time until all the gifs were all moving at the same time and stopped at the same time. It’s really just trial and error, and you keep nudging things til it’s in sync and the animation looks smooth.

3. Now, if I had only done these two steps, my BG and Firework Overlay would have just stopped and you would have seen the BW Overlay blended over nothing. See the vertical pink line? That’s where the gifs all stopped before I did Step 1. They wouldn’t be moving behind my BW Overlay. They wouldn’t even be visible. That’s where the green boxes come in. I labeled those green boxes “Freeze Frames” because they’re the very last frame of each gif, frozen. So, it’s as if the original gifs simply stopped on the last frame for an extended amount of time. You can have your BG continue to loop instead, but to minimize the distraction as my BW Overlay faded in, I decided to make them still frames. (You can make a freeze frame by duplicating your layer, moving the playhead/red line to the last frame of the scene, right-clicking, the layer and selecting “Rasterize Layer.” Move the freeze frame so it’s after your gif.)

4. Problem 2 — The easy part here is adding the Fade transition. The annoying part is the magically appearing duplicate layers. To do this simple Fade transition, just click that square in Timeline with the diagonal split. Then, I dragged the Fade effect (yellow box) over the beginning of my BW Overlay (other yellow box). The Fade effect is indicated by the right-angle triangle. All looks fine and dandy until you finish the rest of your gif, convert back to frames, adjust your frame delay, and see choppiness due to some duplicates. Luckily, the duplicates only pop up where the fade transition is. Again, idk how to explain why this happens, it just does. And to fix it, I simply go to the spot where the fade starts and delete all the duplicate frames until I get to the end of the fade. Once the duplicates are gone, it’s all good and the animation should be a lot smoother!

So, there has been a reckoning in wangxian/mdzs fandom since yesterday, when twitter fandom found out that popular author (AO3 user Shinocchi) was suspended from AO3. And it turns out it was because she was behind what seemed to be a cyberbullying campaign against other authors on AO3. Which she did on her own (well, and some of her followers. But mostly by herself). She created sockpuppet accounts (fake accounts), which she used to stalk and leave hateful comments, harass authors when their fics were becoming increasingly popular (more comments, kudos and bookmarks). She did this to drive these authors off of fandom. She is a STALKER, and she did severe emotional damage to others. Why? Because their fics were becoming too popular? Because she didn't agree with wangxian characterization? Proof shows that the one thing all of these authors had in common was that their fics were becoming popular. As soon as this happened, they were attacked by multiple accounts

Geragrena, rikke, cafecliche and yiqie are only a few that have been mentioned that were her victims.

This came about thanks to AO3 user sweetlolixo, another popular mdzs author who was also targeted and harassed by Shino. She compiled pages of proof that all of the people leaving hateful comments on her fics were coming from ONE person. Don't believe me? She created a thread here where she published a google document with everything that happened and all the proof, plus the response from AO3 that resulted in them banning Shinocchi.

And what was Shino's response? She blamed "her sister," then privated her twitter account. Today, she became public again and said she would take responsibility for all the people she hurt and apologize. However, people confronted her about her crappy apology and she ended up deactivating her account.

TLDR: AO3 author Shinocchi was removed from AO3 after another popular mdzs author, sweetlolixo, compiled evidence proving that Shino was a cyberbully who created fake accounts to harass and leave hateful comments on other fics, while pretending to be multiple people. So if you're looking for her fics and find them deleted? This is why.

UPDATE: Found screencaps of Shinocchi's apology from this morning, where she said she would take responsibility (well, she still blamed her "sister") and apologize to everyone involved.

A little less than an hour later (I think?), she deactivated her account and flounced to her website (which is private), where she made a post saying that she's leaving fandom and that she won't apologize because nobody wants to hear it.

She made a post on her (private) website, where she basically doesn't take any responsibility, and instead implies that most of the people dogpiling on her are "those who held grudges" against her, and that she won't "admit to faults that aren't hers." So no apology from Shino to all those affected. Pretty different from what she posted this morning on twitter, isn't it?

Finally home, as promised, here's the LATEST Monica Aksamit drama...

For those who don’t know, Monica is a 31 year old, 6 foot tall, American (of Polish descent) Olympic medalist in fencing, who mostly lives in New York. She and Sam Heughan used to mutually follow on social media, they flirted, DM’ed, and talked about getting together in person the next time Sam was in New York, but that didn’t happen. Instead of MOVING ON, Monica went on an all out campaign to PUBLICLY badmouth him. Sam's "toxic" behavior was that he "led on" Monica, kept promising to meet up, never did, then still kept contacting her after. Psst, Monica, come a little closer, let me whisper in your ear, “He’s just not that into you.” But Miss Thang’s Olympic size ego couldn’t deal with that and she proceeded to smear Sam in a MONETIZED $$$ podcast on Apple and Spotify, as well as other outlets. More on that later... Eventually it all died down and we all went back to forgetting about her...guess that was the problem. So, a few days ago, Monica decided to resurrect her beef against Sam 👇 Gee, what a coinky dink that she is trying to get attention again riiiiiight after she got eliminated as a contestant on the dating reality show “Joe Millionaire.” Hmm.

I can almost smell the putrid froth from here. 👇 They’re all acting as if this is some #metoo type of abusive situation when the REALITY is Sam’s “just not that into you,” and Monica was butthurt and decided to make a mountain out of a molehill. Let’s save the outrage for REAL victims of abuse. I hate when women play victim when they’re anything but--takes credibility away from real victims. I’m not a Sam mommy, I don’t think he walks on water, and I know he’s not a saint, BUT what happened between Sam and Monica did not warrant her vindictive actions. And worse, she used Sam to get her name out there, give herself more visibility, and make money. Thirsty doesn’t begin to cover it.

But, let’s backtrack a bit and do a history lesson of how this all came to be. Like I said, a few years ago, Sam and Monica were mutually following on social media. If you do a search of Sam and Monica’s names on different social media platforms, you’ll see some interactions that were friendly and flirty. Tumblr limits screencaps to 10, so I’m not posting those, but they’re out there. At some point, Monica Tweeted that she needed help to have enough money to go to the Olympics (I can’t find that exact Tweet, so I’m assuming she deleted it). And Sam replied to her and retweeted her Tweet, thus giving her fundraising campaign FREE publicity, since his over 700,000 Twitter followers would see it. Monica got some hate from Extreme Shippers who don’t like it when Sam talks to pretty, sporty, young blondes, and she also interacted with some fans who showed her support. 👇 As you can see, her Go Fund Me campaign exceeded expectations, and in no small part to the boost Sam gave her by Retweeting on his account.

Weeelll, as the saying goes “no good deed goes unpunished,” and things eventually went south between our two blonde giants. Sam and Monica continued to DM and flirt and made plans to get together whenever Sam was in New York next, but an in person date never came to fruition. Sam is VERY BUSY, so I’m not surprised, BUT, the reality is if a guy is into a woman he will MAKE THE TIME to see her. When Sam didn’t follow through on tentative plans, THAT should have been the signal to any woman who has dated human men, that, say it with me, “he’s just not that into you.” But, guess Mon Mon didn’t get the ages old dating memo.

Should Sam have been direct and told her he actually wasn’t interested? In an ideal world, yes. But, as we’ve seen, Sam is a people pleaser, doesn’t like anyone getting mad at him, and on top of that, he’s a HUGE flirt, who doles out his ubiquitous “let’s meet for a wee dram the next time I’m in town,” to any remotely attractive woman. I’m sure he figured when he didn’t actually SEE Monica IN PERSON, that she would get the message that it was a no go. But of course, that’s not what happened. Should Monica feel disappointed and upset that Sam made it seem like they were going to get together in person, continued to contact her, and then flaked? Of course, that’s an appropriate reaction. But once she figured out there was not going to be any Samonica, she should have put on her big girl panties and set her sights on someone who actually wanted to be with her. And realized what smart women with life experience know, when a man is into you, he will make the effort to SPEND TIME WITH YOU. Now you know.

What is NOT an appropriate reaction is what Monica ended up doing and continues to do. She went all over social media badmouthing Sam, acting like he was killing puppies FFS, AND created a podcast where she directly badmouths him and MADE MONEY OFF OF IT. 👇 And she’s STILL badmouthing him. SMH.

In her podcast, she talks about all the men who have wronged her (Gee, who’s the common denominator here?) but it’s interesting that the ONLY one she has ever named is Sam, the one who is rich and famous and has tons of followers. Why hasn’t she mentioned the names of the other men? $$$ In the podcast, we find out exactly how over the top her reaction to what happened is. She admits that she used to “stalk” Sam’s whereabouts, she scoured the Internet to find out who else Sam had dated, going as far as reaching out to these women! (As an aside...2 of Sam’s exes she contacted blocked her). Well that sends a clear message on whose side they were on AND helps us gauge Monica’s level of crazy.

Eventually, after Monica gathered all her intel, she made the podcast where she PUBLICLY smears Sam’s name. Oh, and if Sam was such a terrible person and she didn’t want anything to do with him, how come she didn’t block him when she first made her podcast? (Now they’ve both mutually blocked) but as you can see below 👇 Sam “liked” one of her pics not long after all of this was happening. You can’t do that if you’re blocked. Also important to note, with few exceptions, ALL of Sam’s exes and ex flings still follow him on social media, including some of the women Monica talked to, like Georgia Ellenwood and Danielle Kling. If he’s such a "toxic" man, why haven’t THEY blocked him?

Monica has a right to be pissed off all she wants that Sam made promises to see her and then didn’t, but to then launch a public witch hunt against him is so OVER THE TOP and not commensurate at all with what actually happened. They never even met in person! The same way a woman has a right to change her mind, doesn’t a man have the same right? Sam thought he wanted to go on a date with Monica and then he CHANGED HIS MIND. That’s not a crime. Or are some women under the impression that once he tells a woman "we should have a wee dram when I'm in town," he is OBLIGATED to go through with it? That sounds like forcing someone to do something they don't want to do just because there was a previous expectation. And that's NEVER acceptable for women or men. And given everything we now know about how Monica behaves, Sam had good instincts that she was a train wreck and he thankfully dodged a bullet.

ALSO, she said Sam “threatened” her. It’s disconcerting that she used the word “threaten” to describe Sam and his legal team warning her that they would pursue legal action if she continued to malign him publicly. But if we’re going to use emotion-laden words, with viscerally aggressive connotations, let’s continue with “threaten.” SHE threatened him FIRST, she went after HIM. Um, she PUBLICLY smeared his name AKA his brand, of course he was going to defend himself. He had every right to have his legal team contact her letting her know that if she continued slandering him, they would report her to the Olympic Committee and Fencing Association for “conduct” violation. Read their rules of conduct and she violated them with her libelous words against another person. In addition, it would be understandable if Sam decided to have a cease and desist order sent if she continued to publicly slander him, since it could have an effect on his career. That's not Sam "threatening" her, that's Sam protecting his livelihood.

Here she is encouraging people to promote the podcast where she bashes Sam and inciting them to "blow it up ladies" IOW make it go viral AKA witch hunt against Sam. And notice the shout out to follow her on all her social media accounts and "support this podcast." $$$ 👇

Every woman Sam has actually been in a relationship with (not just hit on in DM’s) has nothing but nice things to say about him, and like I previously mentioned, the majority still follow him, that speaks volumes. Even, his ex Cody Kennedy’s mom, Jinx Kennedy, said “I don’t have anything bad to say about Sam, he was a gentleman,” and this was after Sam broke up with her daughter to go back to Abbie Salt! Again, that speaks volumes. Is Sam perfect? No. Can he be a douche? Of course. He’s a human male, they can all be douchy at some point from birth to death. But overall, he is a good guy, and the MAJORITY of people who know him attest to that. It’s sad that one bitter Betty, I mean miserable Monica took it so far, and for her own self-serving ulterior motives. $$$ I’m getting tired writing this...almost done.

Here’s something that’s ironic. Monica criticized Sam for messaging her and then blowing her off, yet here she is rationalizing why it’s okay for HER TO DO THE SAME THING. Hypocrite, much? 👇

And for someone who claims to want to keep her private life private she sure DOES the OPPOSITE. 👇 Again, hypocrite, much? And she mentions she worries men will want to date her for the “clout.” Um, NO ONE knows who she is except Olympics fans...oh wait, NOW THEY DO, because she made sure of that by ranting and raving about Sam “ghosting” her, MAKING MONEY off her association with Sam, and most recently, going on the nationally televised reality show “Joe Millionaire.” Which ironically is about MULTIPLE women trying to win the heart of a MILLIONAIRE...gold digger, give me my 15 minutes of fame, much? Literally 15 minutes on the show and she was the first one voted off by BOTH men. She claims it’s because they both thought she was too tall...yeah, I guess it didn’t have anything to do with her off-putting personality and the ding ding ding bunny boiler alerts going off in both guys’ heads at all. Sure, Jan.

Monica keeps Tweeting that she’s a “strong confident woman.” She can SAY that all she likes, but her ACTIONS have shown us quite the OPPOSITE. How she dealt with being rejected by Sam has solidified her reputation as a woman who is emotionally immature, petty, vindictive, bitter, stalkerish, fame-hungry, with a pinch of gold digger, and gives off red flags galore. Proceed with caution--if you piss her off, she’ll talk about you in her podcast and make money off you. Good luck finding any sane guy wanting to date this colossal HOT MESS now. Way to go, Mon! 👏
