[ANIME]

Some recommendations for you all! But some of these are underrated. Hope you like it!

Golden Kamuy

Golden Kamuy, you've heard it before. I know that this anime is very popular in Japan but also outside Japan except Indonesia (The anime did a collab with Sanrio & Shiroi Koibito [Cookies I guess], any question?). This story is about Sugimoto, a veteran of the early twentieth-century Russo-Japanese War, and his quest to find a huge fortune of gold of the Ainu people, helped by a young Ainu girl named Asirpa.

"Why should I watch this?" Because you'll know everything about Ainu, indigenous people of Hokkaido! I guess Ainu is like ethnic group [We call it "suku" here], it is unfamiliar that I thought it wasn't real. You'll also learn about Russo-Japanese War, foods, Ainu foods, Ainu culture, etc.

About the fandom, I haven't seen some groups in every social media including Tumblr & Twitter. But I hope it has a green flag, cause I've seen that the fans are nice enough (They don't compare GK to other anime and a lot of them are Tsurumi's fans on Twits haha!). There is a blog about Golden Kamuy, where you can know gun types, references of real people, opium, funfact, etc. Just type it!

2. Bungou Stray Dogs

This is also popular outside Japan [and in Japan too ... Probably?]. This story follows Atsushi, a weretiger orphan, who joins others gifted with supernatural powers to accomplish different tasks including running a business, solving mysteries, and carrying out missions assigned by the agency.

Bungou Stray Dogs or BSD is worth it, you won't believe that it's a seinen (18-30/40 y.o for men) anime even if you read the genre. It's seinen, but less blood and full of humor at the first season. Same as GK, but "nicer" for teenagers. You can simp with Dazai, Ranpo, or even other bishounen characters oops- Well they have unique artstyle of course, love the eyes <3 You will also be introduced with real characters if you search them without BSD.

About the fandom, a lot of them are fujoshis (Girls who are fans of BL). I also think that the fandom is safe, but a bit weird because AtsuKyouka. However I ship these teenagers as siblings/best friends.

3. Popee The Performer

You probably know this anime. YES, Popee The Performer is an anime and a kid show, but I mean like what the earth is going on-

If you don't know Popee The Performer or I should say Popee Performer, you might say that I'm lying. Popee Performer is a 2001's anime and a kid show made by Ryuji Masuda, a CG animation. So, it does sounds like a 3D cartoon to you and you'll ask why I recommend this.

Come on, Dear, Popee Performer is alright for you ;) .... If you like bloody and 'weirdcore' animation with a story that no one can understand the reason or the moral from this "slice-of-life-or-not" anime, then this is your world. The story follows Popee, an apprentice clown, and his assistant, Kedamono, attempting various Circus acts and going about their daily lives as performers.

The fandom? I hope it's a safe area although it's not a children show and the adults watch that, they make awesome fanarts and ... ship for PopKeda. I'm not hoping for PapPopee and you shouldn't, I beg you please. DON'T SEARCH IT ON AO3 EVEN IF YOU WANT TO

4. Gugure! Kokkuri-san

After watching heavy topics, we should start taking a snack and then stare at an enjoyable anime. Gugure! Kokkuri-san is a spectacular comedy and supernatural anime series that came out in 2014. The TV show features countless unexpected humorous and heartfelt moments, so it’s definitely worth watching, especially if you’re in the mood for something sweet and simple. The series revolves around the life of Kohina Ichimatsu, an elementary school girl who lives by herself and leads an unhealthy lifestyle. Once, while playing a game, Kohina accidentally summons Kokkuri-san, a fox spirit who later decides to take care of the little girl. The show then takes Kohina on a thrilling journey where she encounters several other spirits like her guardian.

I love the artstyle, especially Kokkuri-san. A beautiful, goofy fox with a long hair. The fandom is green flag for sure, I don't see lots of fans talking about this anime.

5. Sanrio Boys

Another enjoyable anime, sadly it's just for sponsoring Sanrio T_T WHYYYYYYYY

This is about boys who like dolls, including Kouta Hasegawa who has a problem because the society says it's girly if boys have dolls. However Kouta finds his friends who have the same interest.

This enjoyable, bromance anime ... It feels like Sanrio Danshi/Sanrio Boys is judging the society. I mean, we all hear that boys who play with dolls are girly and my ears are super itchy for listening to these stupid things. They have small fans, not popular but it's better! You will also see beautiful and handsome guys, gotta choose Mizuno before someone catches him.

There are underrated animes that I've watched, but I guess 5 is enough. Give me part 2 if you want. Sincerely, Blue Wolf

Roughly speaking, this video tries to make links between FE16 and RL History. Alas, some comparisons are not really relevant.

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

The Greatest Battle Lies Within.

“You get you're rent if you fix this DAMN DOOR!”

This movie is definitely the worst of the trilogy, I don’t hate it but it can be frustrating especially in comparison. While it is bad, it’s still better than most MCU films in my opinion. To add insult to injury, this is also the longest in the trilogy.

Spider-Man is hardly in this film, he first appears at the 30 minute mark. The villains in this movie suck, especially Venom. Venom has no need to be in this film, arguably black spider-man is important, but Venom is such filler and adds nothing emotionally - when all other villains in the trilogy do. I appreciate that this film tackles the question of ‘what if Peter lost himself and he was evil’ but barley he's less evil and more of an asshole - which just come across as unintentional comedy. Harry was a decent villain and his arc was okay, but the amnesia plot device was actually worthless- that was the epitome of lazy writing - he could’ve just been omitted from the majority of the film.

Sandman was underutlisied I think (he also had the best CG effects in the movie), had the writers focused on writing him as the compelling villain for Peter and Spider-Man, like the previous two movies, this could’ve been good. But he shows up early in the film so they can show he has a daughter, then he gets his powers, then Spider-Man beats him, and he’s gone for a long time after that point. Peter thinks he’s dead for half the film, meaning he doesn’t care about this villain emotionally, but yet the film tries to force emotions on us at the end. Also, I fucking hate that they retconned Ben’s death, practically removed a lot of the development Peter went through - it was revealed in bland dialogue and a dumb flashback too, once again being lazy.

The movie sets up a villain, has Spider-Man fight them, then they disappear and the movie introduces someone else. This is the cycle until the end of the movie.

*The rest of this review is basically a rant

The action was subpar and clunky, not as memorable as others. Both Green Goblin fights were fine (also sidenote, they had Harry hit his head and fall off his glider three times in three different action sequences). Just overall uninventive.

The movie is still fun and funny for the most part, but had a shit ton of boring and uneventful sequences. Bully Maguire was of course funny, but for the most part it was unintentional humour.

The effects were worse and there was a large amount of CGI used in comparison. Bill Pope’s cinematography was still good for the most part.

Editing was weird, you had Eddie being fired and then suddenly the dancing montage begins without any rhyme or reason. Danny Elfman didn’t come back for the score, but even when they used his music it didn’t feel as effective.

The characters were underutilised. Aunt May was in like two scenes. Also, Peter was unusually rude even before he got the symbiote.

I still enjoyed the film, but damn this is a fall from grace. It’s so messy and uninventive. Sam Raimi’s personality doesn’t even come through all that much, neither does the personality from the music, action and visual presentation.

What remains of Fall Anime 2020

You might have noticed that I haven’t been keeping up with my season impressions, mostly (but not exclusively) because it’s really boring to come up with new ways to say “it’s isekai, which means it’s garbage for stupids”. So here’s what I ended up finishing, in ascending order of goodinosity.

Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima

Ostentatious rap battles in an insanely stupid universe are very fun. The thing is that this doesn’t want to be a good anime, it wants to sell us on these characters, and the characters are pretty terrible on account of all of them being one-word gimmicks. So, let’s give them three rounds of introductions and have them solve lame, generic crimes for 8 episodes instead of setting up the rivalries that everyone suddenly has later, when the show gets good - because it does start delivering towards the end, and becomes really all I wanted. So I can’t even say I’m disappointed, but the first half of the show is almost entirely worthless. 4/10

Assault Lily Bouquet

I don’t want to be the guy that’s all “I’m mad at this show not catering to what I want”, but I do have to say that Salt Bucket is much better at being a goofy, lighthearted yuri comedy than it is at action (though there are a few choice cuts) and at having an engaging storyline. This is again just an ad for some game or other, so it’s no surprise it has about two dozen characters too many, but it also has quite a lot of superfluous plot - so much so that I suspect it was initially planned to be twice as long. Apart from that, it’s cool and all that some Gainax old hand got to make his own Gunbuster-like, but it’s just not very good at that and all I wanted was Kaede antics and bath scenes, of which 1 per episode is clearly too few. 5/10

The King's Avatar 2

King’s Avatar got a sequel and overall I have to say, I kinda like it more than the first season even though it looks much less ambitious and even the character designs were changed towards the bland. But I honestly don’t care much about the esports aspect of this and much of S2, especially in the back half, is more about schemes and social engineering - as close to an Eve Online anime as we’re ever going to get, I guess. It’s still very chinajank (why the hell does every episode come with a redundant chibi summary of itself, etc), and while I can’t call that “good” it does remind me of a time when I wasn’t filled with useless knowledge of anime tropes and was just enjoying the weirdness. Also, Ye God’s antics is as close to “looking for anime with OP MC” as I’m comfortable with getting. 6/10

Heaven Official's Blessing

Now how about some Chinimation that isn’t very janky? I only became aware of Heaven Official’s Blessing when it suddenly rocketed to the top of the MAL charts, so I gave it a looksie and oh boy. The first few episodes of this show are flat out gorgeous, quite funny and very very gay. So I was ready to agree with MAL for once, except it then launches into an arc that mostly consists of our dudes sitting in a dark pit telling each other stories that aren’t very interesting and seem barely related to the setup. Yeah, the back half of this just isn’t very good at all. And the subs are hot garbage. Still, the beginning is so impressive that I would recommend this show despite the middling rating it’s about to get. 6/10

Ochikobore Fruit Tart

You know the problem that these 5girls4koma stories have, where one of the characters is an annoying pervert, yeah? Well, in Fruit Tart every character is that character, and they’re rather cultured as well. Yes, it’s often of questionable taste and it has a terminal case of 4koma storytelling but dammit if I didn’t enjoy it. It certainly helps that this show’s greatest asset by far is Broko and it seems to be aware of this, because there’s a lot of Broko material. It would have probably have gotten a 6 but the last episode is just so... maximum Fruit Tart. I’m down for some trash if it’s as well made as this, and I do like my kiraralikes spicy, so thumbs up over here. YMM definitely V on this one. 7/10

Majo no Tabitabi

Speaking of things that are hard to recommend despite me liking them a lot, Elaina here challenges the very notion of what a TV show even is supposed to be. I assume most people tune in every week expecting to get something roughly similar. Not so with this one, you could get everything from slice of life antics to Higurashi-style gore, or reasonably deep character study to pervert comedy. I would say that the only unifying thread is the presence of Elaina, who is a very fun character, but there’s an episode she’s not in, so there you go. But I’m a connoisseur of the weird and I also have to say that I enjoyed every episode in its own way. Also, each episode stays remarkably consistent by itself, and in the end it wraps it all up with a sort of neat “life is like a box of chocolates” thematic bow, which isn’t earthshatteringly profound but hey, it’s there. Just don’t go in with expectations, especially not expectations based on the first episode. 7/10

Love Live! Nijigasaki

It’s Love Live. Good old reliable Love Live. Really not much to say about this one, any discussion of what makes this different from previous iterations is going to end up in minutiae only people who already watched this could possibly care about. I do have to say that while the musical numbers are as good as Sunshine’s were towards the end and there’s also a lot more of them, “looking budget deficient outside the CG” is the one thing I didn’t expect from something that’s ostensibly a Sunrise premium product. So boo on that one, apart from that it’s idols (an anagram of solid). 7/10

Garupa Pico Oomori

The chibi SD shorts based off Bang Dream are still better than the main show. Even if S3 was actually quite good, this is just the best thing you can do with 30+ characters that aren’t that deep. Garupa Pico specializes in absurd humor setpieces that at points is better at being Pop Team Epic than Pop Team Epic itself was. Take that, memelords. 7/10

Fire Force S2

Fire Force is just weird, man, and it’s sort of great. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a property of this magnitude show this much of the ol idgaf spirit. How about an episode where the A plot is the most evenhanded exploration of religion i’ve seen in anime, and the B plot is about blowing up a tryhard edgelord by exposing him to panties? How about a subplot where Batman and Thor infiltrate the vatican to kill the pope, only for that to lead into a gay rape backstory, only for that to be resolved by dank weed and dismemberment? It really is quite a thing, as they say. Now, Fire Force certainly delivers hard at points, but it’s also very scattershot, even if S2 is somewhat more consistent than S1. The weakest parts are unsurprisingly still the ones where it’s remembering its fighting shounen template, and that’s not only because I don’t like that, it’s also because it’s particularly and consistently bad at scheduling these huge, simultaneous multifight setpieces it often crescendoes with. But hey, at least these tend to look super cool. In short, Fire Force is a land of contrasts and still the only fighting shounen I give a damn about. 7/10

IDOLiSH7 Second Beat

Did you know that I think Idolshi7 is the best one of all of these huge-ass commercial idol franchises? Yeah, I think it’s better than Love Live, and as of Fall 2020 also the better looking one because Troyca still delivers where Sunrise apparently can’t. I guess still don’t like the music much, thankfully there isn’t a lot of that. It also still specializes in gigantic drama, and to its credit S2 is now much better at either getting to the point or at least making it silly and fun. You show that door who’s boss, Sou. Still fantastic Tsumugis all over the place as well, in fact I think I like all the characters now. Even Banri gets his big moment in this season! Yeah, this stuff is pretty cool. 8/10

Adachi and Shimamura

So here’s the AOTS, and it’s the lovechild of Bloom Into You and Tsuki ga Kirei. While it definitely isn’t as good as either of these two, because it lacks the “about more than just teenagers being hyperbolic about a crush” part from Bloom and the part where it has an actual ending from TgK, it carves out its own niche with its loopy, almost stoned tone that’s full of side weirdos and yuri hyperspace. It’s also uniquely focused, with a tiny core cast and even Shimamura doesn’t really matter all that much. This is all about Adachi, and thankfully Adachi is amazing. Amazingly awkward, that is. It’s very cute. So yeah, this is a bit too lacking in substance to aspire to classic status, but it’s a great time nonetheless. 8/10

Pope the Performer or Popee the Clown is a children’s anime widget series and the directorial debut of CGI animtion director, Ryuji Masuda, which aired on the Japanese, all animated children's television station, Kids Station, from 2001 to 2006.

Plot

the show is set in a circus in the middle of the desert and mainly revolves around two circus performers; Popee, a 17-year-old self absorbed, arrogant and mean-spireted clown in a pink and white striped bunny/cat costume who desperately wants to be the star of the show by mastering every trick in the book and takes out his frustration on his friends if he fails in these attempts, and Kedamono, a 25-year-old purple wolf in orange boxers and ever changing koh mask who is offten at the receving end of Popee’s psychotic outbursts. other characters include Papi, Popee’s flamboyant father and owner of the circus, his elephant car, Paola, an alien and a frog.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

A movie podcast I listen to, The Big Picture, did a recent episode on the 10th anniversary of 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (trailer). Coincidentally enough, that film remains in my backlog box all these years later, so I made sure to re-watch it before giving that podcast a listen. For those unfamiliar with this film, it is based on a series of six graphic novels of the same name by Bryan Lee O’Malley released between 2004 and 2010. The basic gist is that Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) falls for newcomer to town, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). In order to win her over Pilgrim has to defeat Ramona’s “Seven Evil Ex’s.” Scott spends the rest of the film exploring Ramona’s mysterious past and dueling her ex’s while practicing with his band, Sex Bo-Bomb, as they progress through a battle of the bands tournament. Sex Bo-Bomb is one slick act! Stephen Stills (Mark Webber) is the doom-and-gloom frontman of the band. Kim Pine (Alison Pill) is a 2010 take on Daria and effectively nails her vintage expressionless glares and blunt quips. Young Neil (Johnny Simmons) is the affable, DS-loving, always ready alternate for Sex Bo-Bomb. Their #1 fan and also other girlfriend of Scott Pilgrim is one Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). Knive’s arc is probably my favorite of this ensemble cast as her journey from adoring fan and girlfriend to her final destination is a fascinating quest to see develop and a faithful translation from the books.

I first heard of the books on the videogame podcast, Team Fremont Live where they reviewed the first book and their breakdown of it caught my attention when they dissected all the nonstop videogame references that are peppered regularly throughout it. The film captures that imagery to a T where it feels like Pilgrim is living in a real life videogame. In this world suspending disbelief is required because it is jam-packed with extraordinarily choreographed battle scenes, makes anyone capable of instantly pulling off bombastic martial arts moves in the blink of an eye without any training whatsoever, and quirky little animations of objects like Mario Bros.-esque coins and pixelated items inserted throughout that any videogame fan will pick up on. The fighting game fan in me popped a little each time a thunderous “KO” blared out each time Pilgrim emerged victorious after an evil ex duel. As a lifelong fan of videogames, it was fun picking up on all the references and Easter eggs in the background throughout. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World hit at an interesting time where Michael Cera was the only established star at this point in 2010 and was riding the last wave of critical success coming off of Arrested Development, Superbad and Juno. Brandon Routh is noteworthy appearing here as one of the evil ex’s after flaming out in his single appearance in a Superman film. However, a few other stars are here right before they exploded into bigger success like the aforementioned Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Chris Evan is here as another evil-ex shortly after his two Fantastic Four films, but a year before donning the Captain America costume for the first time. Anna Kendrick is here in a small role as Scott’s sister Stacey while in the midst of her initial Twighlight run. Finally, Brie Larson is here as Scott’s evil-ex, Envy Adams and she is the lead for her band, Clash at Demonhead in my personal favorite musical performance of the film as they belt out “Black Sheep.”

It is worth repeating that I highly recommend suspending all disbelief going into Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and simply roll with it. The battle scenes are a hoot to take in and feature a ton of CG that holds up well ten years later. It is also worth pointing out this film is part absurd videogame battles, part early 20s love triangle drama and to a lesser extent part musical with several performances from Sex Bo-Bomb and other bands throughout the film. Director Edgar Wright tracked down a few bands to play the tracks for some of the featured bands in the film such as Beck performing the handful of Sex Bo-Bomb songs in addition to a slew of other tracks from artists like The Rolling Stones and Blood Red Shoes that perfectly supplement the outlandish tone of the film. It is not too often on here I recommend hunting down the soundtracks for a film, but the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World I wholeheartedly recommend! I think the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World BluRay may have set the record for amount of extra features for a single film in the near seven years of movies I have covered on this blog. A rough tally on my notes gives an approximate sum of nearly five hours of bonuses, and then four feature length commentary tracks on top of that! I will not detail every bonus, but will give some highlights of the ones that stood out for me. There is just under a half hour of deleted scenes with or without commentary from Edgar Wright. Most of them are extended scenes from the first act to trim out excess background info, but an alternate ending is what stood out the most that Wright explained he changed because it did not go over that well in test screenings. I can always appreciate a good blooper reel, and an excellent 10 minute reel is compiled here that I would rate right up with the stellar ones in the Marvel films.

There are three features grouped together in the ‘Docs’ section of the extras tallying up to a little over an hour. If you only had time for one of the five hours of bonuses I would go there because that has the core making of documentary which breaks down collaborating with Bryan Lee ‘O Malley, nailing the casting, detailing the extensive stunt training and interviews several of the bands about being featured in the soundtrack. Speaking of the soundtrack, there are four music videos included. Definitely check out the four minute animated short, Scott Pilgrim vs. Animation that is essentially a prequel to the film that dives into Scott and Kim’s former relationship. There are 12 ‘Video Blogs’ totaling 45 minutes that are raw on set interviews with the cast and crew between takes that sees the crew up to all kinds of mischief to kill downtime. This BluRay easily has the largest photo gallery of any home video I have covered with several hundred photos. One gallery is labeled ‘storyboards’ but each storyboard panel is nearly identical to the excellent quality of the art in Bryan Lee O’Malley books so that is essentially a free comic book adaptation of the movie buried in the extras! I experienced all four of the commentary tracks in one re-watch of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World via jumping around to a different commentary about every five minutes. Edgar Wright is on two of them, one with Bryan Lee ‘O Malley and writer Michael Bocall and the other with photography director Bill Pope. The other two commentaries are split among nine cast members, with Michael Cera and the rest of the leading cast on one and the ancillary cast members on the other cast commentary track. Wright has tons of nonstop insight and production facts on his tracks, and the cast tracks are have a lot of fun anecdotes such as Cera failing at trying to get additional people on the commentary via phone call. On top of the commentary I had on during my re-watch was also a factoid subtitle track to really take in the extra features. Despite going on now for three paragraphs about the bonus features, I think I only touched on about half of what is available, and it is truly astonishing to see how much they crammed into one BluRay disc.

A part of me thought going into this that Scott Pilgrim vs. the World would not hold up after 10 years. I would chalk that up to thinking I may have got easily won over with all the hype from being vastly into the books back then and being too caught up into the build to the film’s initial release. I can put those reservations to rest thankfully as I immensely enjoyed this ode to videogame fandom as much as I first did in 2010. Throw in a plethora of extra features to last all year to make Scott Pilgrim vs. the World one of my highest recommendations yet! Fire Emblem Three Houses musing now that I’ve finished 3 of 4 routes (all but Silver Snow though I’ve seen the ending) and I just want to ramble about all the things I keep noticing. Edelgard is really interesting but awful.

Dimitri is also interesting, I appreciated that he stuggles with his trauma, but the path to overcoming it felt unearned and contrived. Somewhat creeped out by the fandom around him. Claude is very fun, as everyone knows, but I don’t see a lot of fandom discussion of his development from “that smile doesn’t reach his eyes” to “I can trust my friends” over the GD route.

And now the spoilers.

Edelgard: She’s a dictator who uses cruel, violent means (including war crimes) in order to overthrow other governments and the church. Her route feels like a fascist propoganda fluff piece, complete with “all of Fodlan was ours, so we deserve to own it all despite the Kingdom and Alliance existing for hundreds of years at this point, nobody has any problems with all the terrible murder and war going on, everything is fine and Edelgard is an inspiring leader.” I wish there’d been more emphasis on Edelgard actually having to justify herself and convince the other students instead of “well, the professor follows Edelgard so I guess we do too.” I really loved how genuinely happy she was to see Byleth again - she the only house leader who finding Byleth really made a difference (aside from in war efforts; yes I know Byleth helps Dimitri but the feel is very different) CF, the route, felt incomplete. At points other routes had full animated cutscenes, CF only gets a CG still - this happens a few times. There’s a point where you’re dumped into a room that exists for one mission and it’s so jarring with how poorly it fits into the narrative. My favorite, however, is Hubert shouting “oh no we need to get out of here”, cut to a black screen with some dragon roaring sounds, and then cut to “well I don’t know how we escaped but thank goodness we did.” Hilariously badly executed. It’s established in other routes that Hubert can teleport Edelgard away, why not have him teleport both Byleth and Edelgard but be exhausted afterwards? Rhea: She’s creeped me out from the beginning, with her weird obsession about Byleth, weird cult-leader way of acting, keeping secrets from her closest advisor and long-time friend (Seteth), and the entire pope thing. I don’t think she’s evil, as she does appear to genuinely seek to spread peace and care for orphans etc, but her obsession with her mother has consumed her, and her attitude at the start of Crimson Flower says a lot for her true motivations. She strikes me as very “human” due to that internal conflict of “who she wants to be” (kind, loving, savior) and “what she really wants” (her mom, at any cost.) I appreciated her “death bed regrets” in BL and GD where she admits she’s been terrible. Her characterization unfortunately feels a bit disjointed between routes, which I think is why there’s so much (very interesting) discussion of whether she’s a haphazard experimenter or a dastardly genius manipulating all the world’s events. (For example, it’s stated in Silver Snow that she gave her blood to the upper ranks of the Church, with the implication it was to empower them to manipulate events in the course of their church duties.) Dimitri: He’s interesting, and I wish there’d been more chances to interact with him. As written, his change of heart after Rodrigue’s somewhat contrived death felt unearned, and I think a few conversations with Byleth beyond “I support you yay” would have helped show his growth. Iit’s somewhat frightening how thirsty folk seem to be for Post-Timeskip Abusive Dimitri. (I just worry about how it intersects with our cultural message of “it doesn’t matter how he treats you just love him enough and you’ll fix him.”) Claude and the Golden Deer route: best described by a quote I read elsewhere: “you’re outsiders to this conflict between two big personalities leading warring nations, trying to navigate your people to survive the war.” He’s also my prime example of why the epilogues should be available like the Support scenes are, because his F!Byleth S rank changes from a bittersweet “I love you, but I have to leave you to pursue my dream” cutscene to “and then I came back as King in my own right and we united two warring countries” in his epilogue. I love the subtle way he goes from being this traumatized “the only hope I have for acceptance is changing the whole world” to “I am cared for and trusted by people I love in turn.” The game really needs a “suggested route order” - Blue Lions felt anticlimactic and missing huge important parts (like the Slithers) after doing Golden Deer first, and I outright pity folks who did Black Eagles first. Do Blue Lions > Golden Deer > Crimson Flower > Silver Snow, just for least spoilers to most spoilers/context.
