In shadows of nostalgia's curse, it lay, An NES cartridge, old and gray, Super Mario's pixelated realm, But in 2023, a deadly realm.

A young man's eyes, a siren's call, To a game so ancient, it enthralled, In the dim glow of a haunted screen, The 8-bit world, a wicked dream.

He plugged it in, that fateful night, The nostalgia, an alluring sight, As coins chimed and worlds unfurled, He spiraled down, lost in this world.

Day turned to night, and night to day, As the game's enchantment led him astray, He believed himself the plumber stout, A Super Mario, beyond a doubt.

With hammer in hand, he ventured forth, In the real world, a twisted course, He saw Goombas, Koopas, and more, Innocents now his foes, his war.

New York City's streets, his stage, A manic killer in a pixelated rage, Each victim marked as a gaming foe, In this hallucination, he'd forego.

The hammers flew, the blood would spill, As innocent lives met a deadly chill, With madness deep and torment stark, He saw only Goombas, no human mark.

The city cried, the sirens blared, As the police closed in, all unprepared, In a Halloween store, the final stand, As he fell, hammer in hand.

But in his mind, he was victorious, A hero trapped in a world so mysterious, In his final breath, he cried his name, Super Mario, lost to the game.

A cursed cartridge, a young man's fall, In the depths of nostalgia, it enthralled, In 2023, a chilling sight, When pixels and reality unite.
