Of course when I’m writing late into the night in the darkness of my bedroom I’m watching YouTube videos in the background.
I’m lame I watch GMM, Trixie Mattel, and CaryandConnieGaming.
Me writing pornography isn’t sexy. It’s like a raccoon washing rocks. It’s my job…

You loved grapes but were extremely picky with them. They had to be hard and crunchy, if they were even slightly squishy, you wouldn't eat it. This was annoying for your boyfriend because he could get them for you and then you might reject them due to improper firmness. This was mostly before you two were dating, and he could pick them out good after nearly two months of getting it wrong. He had learned. The only problem? You ate them way too fast. Not that you got a stomach ache, it’s just you could down a whole bag of them in like two days if he didn't make you pace it out. It was a warm spring day, around 3pm, you had the windows open to air the apartment out after cleaning. He came home to you sitting on the couch in just a tank top, panties, and sneakers. That's how he knew you had cleaned. You were flipping through YouTube on the TV, an empty box of cheese whales laying on the couch cushion next to you.
"You hungry, pretty girl?" Renjun smiled, placing the grocery bags on the counter. You made a general positive grunt, and he pulled the grapes out of a bag and your face lit up.
"Help me put these away first." He chuckled when you groaned but got up to do so. You were normally a stickler for no shoes in the apartment, but your feet hurt without shoes when you cleaned, so you had a pair just for that exact task. Renjun had a hard time not watching your cute little butt, covered only by purple panties, jogging around the kitchen as you put groceries away. Your tank top was tight, making it obvious you weren't in a bra, and he had to force his gaze away from you. Even the way the end of your hair, up in a high ponytail, dangled over your shoulders was distracting him. You were none the wiser. Once everything else was put away, he led you back to the couch, holding the bag up for you to follow like you were some kind of animal…it worked though. Your boyfriend was not exactly tall for a man, especially compared to his friends, but he was still almost half a foot taller than you. Because of this, when he held the bag of grapes above his head as high as possible, you couldn't reach them.
"Renjun!" you scolded, and he laughed, relenting when he felt your breasts squish against his chest as you tried to reach your snack. You were about to become a snack, if you didn't stop tempting him. Not that you were trying. You shoved the empty box of cheese crackers out of the way, the blue box flying pitifully off the couch and onto the floor. Renjun sighed, too lazy to deal with it right then, so he rested back onto the couch with you. You had slipped your sneakers off, socked feet resting on the edge of the cushion, knees to your chest. He tried not to straight out stare at you as you popped the green little orbs into your mouth, one by one. You were so cute when your cheeks were puffed up, staring enthralled at the video you had pulled up. He barely was even paying attention to the man in the video, making an instrument out of a squash to play a song with it.
"Ah, fuck." You clicked your tongue. You had gotten ambitious and tried to put too many grapes in your mouth, one of them slipping past your lips, tumbling to fall right between your tits. Renjun was quicker than either of you thought possible. Before you could pick the fruit up off your skin, he had leaned forward, wrapping his lips around the grape, barely grazing your skin and he pulled back up like what he just did was normal. You blinked at him, and he was fighting back a laugh, trying to stay cool and confident. When your brain registered what he did, you sneered.
"Grape stealer…" You grumbled and this made him laugh, nearly choking on the grape he was still chewing. Rolling your eyes, you went back to the video, your attention getting caught as his hand reached to pluck a grape from the vine. Your bewildered stare followed his hand and he smirked, holding the little green ball between his teeth. Sucking it in, he just held it in his cheek.
"Bitch-" You started, and he huffed.
"Come and get it then~" Renjun laughed when you shoved the bag away, to the other end of the couch, climbing onto him. You straddled your lap and at first you were going to pry his mouth open like he was a puppy chewing on a rock, but his hands came to your hips, pulling you down against him. You froze, feeling his half-hard cock straining against his jeans, rubbing against your barely covered cunt. That changed your entire approach. Sniffing, trying to appear unaffected, you instead leaned down, sealing your lips over his. He immediately let your tongue enter and you reached in to try and find the fruit. Your tongue hit it, wrapping around it as well as his tongue so you could pull it back into your mouth. Once you had retrieved your bounty, you pulled away, saliva dripped from your lips and you chewed on the grape, sitting smugly on his lap. Instantly, pretty, sweet Renjun was gone, a harder look crossing his face. Your core clenched at the demeanor shift, your smug look disappearing, body deflating a bit. Your fingers messed with the end of his sweat shirt as he nuzzled your neck, starting to kiss and suck there. You shivered with a mewl, fingers dancing down to the zipper of his pants.
"You thirsty now, pretty?"
"Hm." You hummed sheepishly and he leaned back into the couch, his hands leaving you. You took the signal and scrambled off his lap to kneel on the floor before him, eagerly unzipping his jeans to grab his fully hard cock. Your mouth watered, craving him way more than you ever would the grapes. When your lips wrapped around the head of his cock, starting to take him into your mouth, he realized why you eating the grapes got to him so much. You sucked them into your mouth just like you were sucking his dick. He licked his lips, a slight bit of the juice still lingering.
"Good girl~" He praised as the head of his cock hit the back of your throat and you moaned in reply. Renjun rested his hand on your head as it bobbed, your hands wrapping around what didn't fit in your mouth. Your mouth had been watering already since the grapes were a bit sour, like you liked them, and so you were slathering him and your face with drool. You were a mess, and it was one of the hottest things he had ever seen.
"Okay, up." He grew impatient and led you to get up off the floor.
"But!" You tried to protest, but with a great deal more strength than you knew he had, he hauled you up by the elbow and your back hit the couch. Renjun was too eager to even bother taking your tank off, so he just shoved it up and over your breasts, so they were revealed to him. Seeing you half-clothed like that normally didn't do anything for him since it was your cleaning clothes, but you were driving him crazy. Your hands scrambled at his shoulders, desperately gripping the fabric of his sweatshirt and he huffed before yanking it off. He didn't know why you cared so much, it’s not liked he looked like Jeno or Jaemin. You let out a long whine as your hands skated over his smooth skin and he was tired of waiting. Your boyfriend simply pulled your panties to the side, he was not strong enough to rip them off, and you would kill him for doing that anyway. Your breath left you in a loud gasp as he buried his cock inside you all at once. Your cunt burned pleasantly at the rapid stretch, your legs shivering at Renjun's sides. He watched you, licking his lips, as your tits bounced with each hard thrust he delivered. Your head was thrown back, hair spread over the couch cushion, hands rested on his torso at his ribs.
"R-Ren~!" You cried in delight as he hauled your legs up and over his elbows and rolled his hips even harder. He loved the gasping moans he was forcing out of you. As he felt himself getting closer to the edge, his thumb landed on your clit, and he felt your cunt clench his cock harder.
"-j-jun!" Your voice was getting hoarse, not holding any noises back.
"Cum, pretty." He pressed his thumb harder, and you fell over the edge, your pulsing walls milking his cock as he fucked his cum into you. When he finally stilled, you mewled with each panting breath.
"Gotta get you grapes more often~" Renjun chuckled, and you huffed.
"Rather have you instead."

210324 ❀ krystal’s: my top 10 favorites has arrived! 💙 ♡ translations by twitter user @altvalorasoo ♡
My favorite thing to do at home? Laptop. Especially these days, I have a lot of time at home I think I can do anything with my laptop. I can watch Netflix and Youtube, I also do all my shopping here. References that I found, I saved it on my laptop. But this is an old laptop, I have this since 2016. It’s been 5-6 years. Not long any, my friend cleaned up everything inside my laptop so I can use it for a long time. This is the first laptop that I bought, it’s a macbook. My favorite midnight snack? My favorite midnight snack is cereal. This is also my first time seeing this packaging. The one I got at home is the usual cereal in a box. This is a little too much. When I was in the US, every time I went to the supermarket I’d go to the cereal corner, I bought 4-5 boxes and brought them back to Korea. But at the some point, I could this in Korea but I didn’t eat it in the morning, usually at 12am as a midnight snack. I secretly eat a bowl. When I was eating suddenly my mom came so we ate together. It contains sugar and cinnamon, with a little cinnamon scent. This is really delicious. My friend hates cereal but her eyes lit up when she tried one bite. I prefer to eat cereal while it’s crunchy. My favorite character? My favorte character is probably Cookie Monster. Actually I like a lot of characters, I like Elmo too. I chose this because I like the pencil case. Before this works, when I had script reading, I always took this baby with me. If you find the picture, this is always be in front of me like this. I seem to like a lot of weird things. This nose is a pencil sharpener, you put it inside the nostril and sharpen it like this. Cute right? I received it as a gift. My favorite item in pouch? Disinfectant spray and coton. I forgot to bring it so I prepared something else. It’s a brush because I work a lot my hair condition doesn’t improve a lot. This is like a magic brush, it helps loosen up my tangled hair really well. My favorite attachment item? This headphones. This headphones is almost 10 years old. It was made as a collaboration between an editorial shop and f(x), they don’t sell this anymore but I got this back then. This rabbit shape is the picture from our Electric Shock album and this is so cute I really like it. This is really fascinating, it will roll up by itself. My favorite cup? It’s from Ralph Lauren’s Home Collection. i have four of these at home, this mug is very big you can drink a lot from this mug. First of all it’s very cute. I drink a lot of coffee in it in the morning, americano. It’s an iced drink but it’s cold these days I was looking hot to drink. What do you always carry these days? This is Polo Ralph Lauren’s phone case, I’ll show you. It’s very cute, you can also put your cards right here instead of cardholder. You can just put your phone and a few cards here, you can carry it around so it’s very convenient. My favorite item in Ralph Lauren? I actually have a lot but if I had to choose one, this is very mini mini. It can be carried around easily and it’s also nice to carry it daily. I can put phone, my brush, lip gloss and cards perfectly. It suits anywhere. My favorite music? I have a lot. The music that I’ve always liked I think it’s Bossa Nova, that kind of genre? The history is also interesting. I think it’s a kind of music genre that makes me feel refreshed and good every time I listen to it so I’ll choose Bossa Nova. My favorite city? City? I have a lot of cities that I like too. San Francisco, it’s my hometown. It’s a city with a lot of childhood memories so whenever I go I feel excited and also San Francisco, compared to the other cities I don’t think it has changed. It feels the same as the old days whenever I go there. It’s not related to San Francisco. but whenever I go there the first place I want to visit is In-N-Out. I want to eat it.

🍀🖤10 weight loss tips for stoners🖤🌿
Aka Outsmarting the munchies.
PLAN AHEAD. like anything else regarding nutrition, a little planning goes a long way. Prepare your snacks in advance, and plan your sesh in advance. Having munchies already planned and accounted for gives you something to look forward to and helps keep you motivated!
Again, plan the sesh. Adjust your day to fit in your munchies! Shift calories for a few days so you can munch guilt free, just make sure you do the math, and never eat from a bag or box. Trust me you won't be able to stop once you start, (learned this one the hard way 😛).
You don't have to eat junk! There is no rule stating you have to eat funyons washed down with Mountain Dew. While a lot of us who are trying to eat better can be triggered by the traditional stoner foods, it is possible to start associating healthy food with being baked. If you have never eaten a fruit salad or drank lemon ice water while high you are missing out. Crunchy celery tastes awesome, grapes are an experience. Try it.
Stoner culture is associated with a lot of unhealthy habits but I want to change this. Smoking before a workout is amazing! While smoking weed not the healthiest habit, there is no reason we can't use in moderation and also live a healthy lifestyle.
Zero cal drinks! Ice water is king, drink up while high and it feels amazing. Sometimes sipping water, tea, Crystal light, or diet soda is enough to curb the urge to snack.
Fiber/protein. Eating a high fiber/protein food after smoking will fill you up much better than chips and soda. Choose foods wisely! Just because you're stoned doesn't mean you have a free pass to eat junk!
Be smart about timing. Smoking after dinner and before sitting down to chill for an evening is a recipe for disaster. You will have cravings and it will be harder to resist then say.... Smoking before dinner and filling up on a healthy meal... Or, smoking before bed and laying down to chill after you have already brushed your teeth.
Gum/mints/hard candy/suckers. Pick candy that takes more time to eat. If you get gummies/taffy, suck on them instead of chewing them. Make your treats last! Stay away from ice cream or anything that has to be eaten fast.
Stay outta the kitchen! Don't let yourself veer into food town when you just smoked the jazz cabbage and want to eat the fridge.
Form a distraction! Find something cool to watch on YouTube, sip some flavored water. Distract your mind. Like any cravings, the munchies can be beat, although it can be difficult. Marijuana can be a trigger to overeat for some of us, but it is possible to smoke in moderation and still eat in a nutritional caloric deficit with proper planning, choosing the right snacks, timing your sesh properly, and finding the right activities to keep yourself distracted.
🖤🖤🖤
This post is directed to adults, 21 and over. Stay safe, stay as legal as possible, and take care!

Survey #284
“mama, we’re all full of lies / mama, we’re meant for the flies”
When was the last time you changed a lightbulb? About a month or so back I had to change Venus’ heat lamp. Who was the last person you sent an e-mail to? I emailed my older sister the OneDrive link to her holiday pictures I did. When was the last time you visited the dentist? What about the optician? It’s been quite a few months since I went to the dentist for a normal cleaning. I haven’t seen an eye doctor in around a year or so because it’s a less pressing matter, and we can’t afford to buy me new glasses anyway. I desperately need them. Do you sleep on your side, your back or your front? My side, stomach, or like a contortion of both. Would you rather drive or be the passenger? Let me be shotgun controlling the music and I’m set for a long ride. When was the last time you received a handwritten letter? Sara sent me one I think two years ago for my birthday. If you have pets, do you buy them gifts for Christmas or their birthdays? Ha, yes. We don’t know either’s exact birthday though, so we don’t really “celebrate” those. Do you know how to ride a bike? How about ride a skateboard? A bike, yeah. I don’t know how to skateboard, though. Did you get enough sleep last night? How much sleep is enough sleep for you? No. I don’t even know what “enough sleep” is. I’m always tired. What are your favourite condiments? Do you use those often? Ketchup and honey mustard probably top the list, considering they’re the ones I use most. Peanut butter: crunchy or smooth? Do you have a favorite brand? I trust no one who can enjoy crunchy peanut butter. I like Skippy quite a bit. Do you have any life-threatening allergies? No. Have you had to take a COVID test yet? Was it positive or negative? I haven’t needed to take one. Do you think it’s okay to keep cats indoors for their entire lives? They SHOULD be. Cats are very destructive and disruptive predators of once-stable environments. They fuck up the food chain and have done a lot of damage to native populations. This is coming from a person whose house was an absolute NEST for cats to the point they were taken away. They lived outside, and I can only imagine the harm they really caused. Of course, as a kid, I didn’t understand this, but as an educated and experienced adult when it comes to this subject, it’s saddening to look back on. Please, keep your cats inside. AND FIXED. Hence our cat empire lmao. Do you think people should need a license in order to keep animals, just to make sure they knew how to properly take care of them? That would actually be LOVELY. If only. Not that it would entirely prevent illegal ownership, but I like to think most people are law-abiding citizens… Which meal of the day is your favorite? What’s your favorite thing to eat for that meal? BREAKFAST! Cinnamon rolls just gotta top the list. When was the last time you bounced on a trampoline? Would you ever want to go to one of those indoor trampoline parks? It has to have been so, so many years. My knees could NEVER take that now. I’m not interested in that. What’s your favorite thing to put on a baked potato? Butter, American cheese, and bacon bits… yum. Have you ever made money selling stuff online? What was it you were selling? I don’t think so, at least not successfully. Do you have a valid passport? When was the last time you used it? No. What was the last song you sung along to? I’m unsure. I rarely sing along to songs. What was the last piece of fruit you ate? What about the last vegetable? Fruit: apple. Vegetable: ummm I’m actually unsure. Probably broccoli. Have you ever lied to the police or a customs official? Were you ever found out? No. Are you much of a procrastinator, or would you rather get things out of the way so you can relax? I am a HEAVY procrastinator. When was the last time you took an exam of any kind? I don’t know. Probably not since I was in school. What snacks/drinks from your childhood do you wish they still made? Ah man, I know there’s some… just too many to dig through to try and remember. Are you a fan of techno? Yeah, sometimes. Who's your favorite horror movie villain/monster? I don’t particularly like one over the other. What's an 'obsession' of yours that most people would find odd or amusing? Probably how much I love Mark, given that being a “fangirl” is usually seen as juvenile. What's the sweetest thing another person has said or done for you? Probably Colleen letting me live with her while I was homeless for a month or two. Said to me, actually from Colleen’s sister; I was having a crying episode over Jason and she just grabbed my head and told me with such passion that I was so beautiful, strong, and deserved the world. Safe to say I started crying more lmao but at least it wasn’t from sadness. What's the absolute best feeling in the world? Being in love. Does the person you have feelings for know you feel that way? Yeah. Do you like Tim Burton? Um, duh. How do you feel about hypnotism? I don’t believe it works. It’s just the power of suggestion. How do you feel about Pink Floyd? I’m not a big fan, but I like some songs. What’s your preferred way of keeping fit? Is it something you make time to do on a regular basis? You assume I AM fit… but I really am trying to change that with WiiFit again, once the living room is cleaned up. I plan to insert it into my morning routine. Have you ever raised a puppy? Would you want to or would you prefer to adopt an adult rescued dog? Yes, Teddy. Right now I don’t want another dog, but hypothetically, I’d absolutely go for an adult rescue. Who was the last person to come to your house? Were they an expected visitor? My younger sister. Yes. If you work, is your job the same everyday, or does it vary depending on what you have on? N/A Would you ever be interested in owning your own business? Why or why not? Well, I want to be a freelance photographer, so… It’s not off the ground enough for me to *officially* call it a business, but while it’s absolutely so exciting to picture, it’s also very anxiety-inducing, the idea of it (hopefully) getting to that point since I’m dumb as fuck in regards to business stuff. Do you have your driver’s license? If so, did you find it easy or difficult to learn and pass your test? Ugh, I don’t. I need it so badly, I know, but right now, I couldn’t even if I wanted to because my vision is too bad to possibly pass that part, and I can’t afford to see an eye doctor + get a new prescription. If you have pets, how often do you buy them new treats and toys? Venus is a snake, so… yeah, lol. She needs a bigger terrarium, though, but a 40 gallon is expensive. Roman gets a new toy every now and then, but he doesn’t play with them as much anymore. If you had to work a job that required you to do shifts, would you rather work the early, late or night shift? Early. Get it over with. Do you have a favorite type of survey to take? Yeah; I like the ones that make me think or are just questions I definitely haven’t seen before but are also interesting. Some random questions are way too specific to apply to most people. On a typical day, how long do you spend out of the house? Even before the pandemic, usually zero time. Do you live in a close-kit community? Well we’re the new family on the block, so it’s hard to tell quite yet. People were welcoming, though. Do you have a vlog? NOOOOOOOOOO. If not, have you ever considered starting a vlog? No, I would feel WAY too fuckin awkward. Did you go to AM or PM kindergarten? AM. What are your favorite YouTube channels to watch? The whole world knows Markiplier is my true favorite channel, but lately I’ve really been digging pet (particularly reptile or tarantula) channels, Snake Discovery in specific. I’ve been bingeing the fuck outta them. I’ve officially become the “I know more than you” Petco meme lmao. Which relative(s) do you look the most like? Idk. Have you ever watched a live birth video? FUCK no. I never would. That could be so fucking scarring to middle school kids, for Christ’s sake. I’ve never understood why they show them in a lot of health classes. Have you ever given birth? Fuck to the no; never plan to, either. Have you ever wished you were born the opposite gender? Nah. Have you ever worn overalls? Ugh, as a kid. They’re so hideous to me now. If you’re a girl, how old were you when you started your period? I was in the 6th grade, so 11-12. Is your mom mentally stable? I mean she has depression, but otherwise, yeah. What color hair did your first crush have? I can’t really remember who my first crush was with certainty… but I think I might. If I’m right, blond. What was the name of your first crush? ^ in minds, I think Aaron. Did you ever play on Mamamedia.com? Doesn’t ring a bell. Do you remember your first email address? Haha, yeah, it’s still my current one… Did you name your Lego characters? I was more of a Lincoln Logs kid. Do you take medication for anxiety or depression? Both. If so, does it work? Does it help you? Or does it make you feel worse? I’d probably be dead without at least my mood stabilizers. Have you ever had a bag stolen? I don’t believe so. Who was your best friend in high school? Hannia. What book or movie gave you nightmares as a child? Ha, no books or movies, I think, but remember King Ramses from that episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog? Oh, trust me, I HAD NIGHTMARES. What song makes you cry? The most, probably “Eternally Yours” by Motionless In White. I physically cannot listen to it. Does anyone know who your first crush was besides you? Maybe Mom? Idk. How many teachers have you had crushes on? None. Did you make your Barbie dolls get crushes on each other? I actually don’t remember? I don’t think we had any male Barbies, and of course as a little kid raised in the South especially, I didn’t even realize homosexuality was a thing, so we never considered the girls dating. Did your Barbie dolls go on dates? ^ How old were you when you had your first kiss? 16. Do you have scars from self-harm? No, they’re long faded and were thankfully never very severe. Did your hair change at all when you went through puberty? Yep, it gradually turned brown. Are you taller, shorter, or the same height as your mom? We’re the same height. Would you ever consider adopting a child? I don’t want kids, period. The only possible case I see is being a stepmom, but even then I can’t visualize me being one to an actual kid-kid. Just like, maybe a mid-teen and above. Do you trim your own hair? No. What are all the things you remember being for Halloween? I’m very surprised that I don’t remember many at all. I know I was a witch multiple times. What was the name of the first pet that you loved? I adored almost every pet my family has ever had. Our first was a stray cat named Chance we took in. INCREDIBLE animal. What color was your nursery? I have zero clue. Do you exercise regularly? Ugh, no, but I genuinely plan on changing that once the living room is cleaned up and Mom moves into her room. I’m very serious about starting Wii Fit again. I WAS gonna start walking once we moved here, but I found I was too scared to alone. I’m way too paranoid. Do you have a healthy BMI? lol What photo editing software do you use? Lightroom, Photoshop, and very rarely PhotoScape if I’m being lazy with watermarking my photography. Do you live somewhere with lots of livestock or wild animals? Livestock, yeah. You pass cows all the time around here. If you’re in a more wooded area, you’ll find roadkill kinda frequently, sadly. Would you rather live somewhere rural or urban? Rural. It’s the only thing that sucks about our new home – we’re in the suburbs. Is there anything (a hobby, for example) that’s guaranteed to always make you feel better when you’ve had a bad day? Not 100%, really. If the day was truly awful, sometimes nothing helps. If you’re struggling with your mental health, who are you most likely to open up to, or would you bottle it up instead? I vent to my mom the most. What room of your house do you spend the most time in? Is this through choice or necessity? My room, and it’s by choice. The second room that I wanna make my “office” is still LOADED with stuff from moving. If you could design your own garden, what would you have in it? Do you think that dream is ever going to be achievable for you? I don’t want a garden. Does it take you a long time to fall asleep at night? What do you if you’re really struggling to get to sleep? It can take me very, very long. I dread lying down some nights just because I know I’ll be tossing and turning for a good while. If I’ve tried to sleep for a long time to no avail, I do what you shouldn’t do and get back on the laptop. Do you think it’s cruel when people keep exotic animals as pets? Or do you think it’s okay as long as they have the space, time and money to dedicate to them? This depends on the animal and situation. I do believe some rescue cases are justified for the animal’s survival, but as the question mentions, you need to be able to provide adequately for it to be moral imo. I do NOT support exotic pet ownership for the average person. If you eat meat, is there a particular animal you’d never eat? If you don’t eat meat, what’s the reason for it? I could never eat a “pet” animal, nor an animal hunted mostly for sport. Even in survival cases, I’d have a hard time eating a wild animal.

chacha’s vlog escapades | asmr with junho !
desc ; hehehe ^ㅂ^ the video you’ve all been waiting for! watch me eat a bunch of snacks and listen to my take on an asmr video
junho’s the kind of guy who typically does his own thing and marches to the beat of his own drum. he doesn’t follow trends when they happen and usually ends up interested in them way after they’re a big thing like mukbang youtubers and asmr channels. he’s late but finally he’s decided to upload his own take on asmr only because he had no other vlog ideas for the week.
when the video begins, junho smiles widely and waves to the camera. “helloooo everyone!” he winces when he remembers what kind of video he’s doing and giggles softly into his microphone setup. “oops, sorry... but hi guys and welcome back to my channel. you already know what time it is~ it’s chacha’s vlog escapades~”
junho manually moves the camera downwards to capture the various crunchy snacks and whatnot in front of him and then moves the camera back up to face him. “for today, i’ll be eating a bunch of a snacks and doing ~ as you guessed it ~ asmr !”
he picks up a potato chip and leans close to his microphone before popping it into his mouth. before he can even let it dissolve on his tongue, he chews it immediately and the crunch can be heard. he chews quickly and then slowly until the chip is completely gone. “not bad for the first snack, right?”
then he moves on and grabs a couple pocky sticks. “the regular chocolate ones are my favorite, just an fyi if any of my adoring fans and subscribers want to send me some.” he leans close to the mic again and takes a big bite out of the pocky sticks and starts chewing. it’s not as audible as the potato chip was but it still made a decent sound. “hmmm, not as satisfying.”
next, junho moves onto some popping rocks candy. not his favorite because he hates the feeling of it in his mouth but anything goes for the vlogs. tearing open the candy packet, he pours the entire thing into his mouth and makes sure to catch it on audio. thankfully, it actually makes a good asmr sound and so far it’s the best one even before the chips.
he goes through a myriad of foods and snacks and by the end of it, junho feels bored but he plasters on a fake smile for the camera. “well... i hope you guys enjoyed it because i surely did~ see ya next time, my beautiful people~”

Staying awake while studying
Tumblr media
Trying to stay awake is one of the obstacles we face while studying, especially when pulling off an all-nighter. In this post I’ll give tips on how I stay awake while studying.
Study loudly.
Of course, this is only done when you’re in a private place. I would read out loud, and explain to myself what I’m studying as if I’m teaching it to somebody else. And by loudly, I mean just loud enough for you to hear, no need to shout.
Coffee and Power naps.
A sleepy mind won’t work well, you have to give yourself a rest, at times like this I take a power nap which takes only 15 minutes. It may seem short but trust me it will give you enough rest. Make sure to set an alarm when you take a power nap!
We usually drink coffee to keep us awake, but coffee alone won’t work, you need still need sleep for caffeine to take on its full effect. I got this tip from my friend, drink coffee before taking a power nap. It usually takes 15 minutes for caffeine to kick in, so while waiting you can have that power nap, when you awake, you’ll feel refreshed and energized. We call this trick the energy boost.
Snacks.
I’m not really the type to eat while studying, but having snacks also helps me stay awake. I usually have nuts and fruits. I’ve read somewhere that it would be better to snack on crunchy foods, the sound it makes while chewing on it somehow gives a stimulates you, keeping you awake. Apples are my favorite study snack, it’s healthy, and crunchy.
Drink water.
Staying hydrated is really important, aside from it being healthy for you, this could also be a simple trick to stay awake. A senior told me this trick to keep drinking water, because every now and then I will have the urge to pee, and just by standing up and walking to the bathroom already stimulates your brain and awakens you.
Exercise.
Do a little stretching, it stimulates you brain, again, awakening you. Sometimes I walk around while studying, sometimes I even do it barefooted so that the cold floor is another stimulus. A friend of mine even goes to the gym while studying, she would mostly be on the treadmill walking slowly or briskly while she studies.
Background noise.
This may not work for everyone as it may disturb your concentration. I would go to Spotify or YouTube, and play a song or a video clip. Since I’m already sleepy, I usually avoid playing slow/relaxing songs. I love playing songs that would hype me up, last test I had the Avengers theme song on the loop (because I’m so excited for the Endgame), I’ve also been listening to the songs of my newly discovered band, The Phantoms (thanks to that Samsung ad), love their songs Watch me and Unstoppable now, really hypes me up and gets me into that action/game mode on. I also dance sometimes on breaks. At times I’d also turn on the TV, set it to a volume loud enough to keep me awake, but also not so loud that it would awaken my neighbors. But once the music or show takes away your focus, switch the channel or song and refocus, if it doesn’t work maybe take a break or turn it off.
Light source.
My physiology professor once said in class that a mistake most students make while studying is using a study lamp as the only source of light. He said that our main light source must be above the head to stimulate the brain and keep us awake. This is just like the sun, placed above us, stimulating the brain to be awake.
At daytime I like to use natural light while studying, I usually study at my balcony or place my study table by the window, aside from keeping me awake, the sun and fresh air also relaxes me. By night, wherever I study I make sure the place is well lighted, again the main light source is above my head, I also light up areas that I can see even on my peripheral vision, because seeing a dim area already makes me feel sleepy.
Set an alarm and put it somewhere far from you.
I make sure to do this when I would take a nap or sleep, at times I do this even when I’m awake, setting it as my break time alarm. I make sure it is still loud enough for me to hear even at a distance. Aside from the sound of the alarm, getting up and walking towards it to turn it off is also another stimulus.
Sleep according to the sleep cycle.
If none of the above tricks works, then maybe it’s time for you to sleep, but since you still have to study you obviously don’t have the luxury to have long hours of sleep. Before, I would sleep for an hour or two, but I noticed that sometimes I still feel sleepy and tired upon even after sleeping. It took me awhile to figure out that I must have been waking up at the wrong stage of sleep cycle.
Tumblr media
(picture from http://sleepcouncil.org.uk)
Luckily, I discovered this app called Sleepytime Sleep Scheduler (for iOS, not sure if this is also available on android), this calculates the times you should be sleeping or the times you should wake up.
Tumblr media
Since I still have to study, I usually choose the times that would give me 1 or 2 cycles of sleep and set an alarm loud enough to wake me up. This app has been really helpful plus it’s free! (P.S. I wasn’t paid to promote this app, I just really love it). Again make sure to set an alarm before sleeping!
As I’ve said a tired mind won’t work well. If you’re tired, rest and recharge. Studying while you’re tired and sleepy is still unproductive and not practical. I once tried staying up all night to study for an exam the next day, obviously my brain wasn’t able to absorb the infos well, and so I didn’t do well on the exams because I was also sleepy. So as much as possible avoid pulling an all-nighter. As always, education is important but our health is more important, so make sure to take care of yourself and still get that rest that you need. Hope this helps. Feel free to reblog, ask and comment if you have any additional tips.

College advice for people like me
So I've seen a lot of posts floating around with advice for college freshmen, and while those are great there's still definitely things I wish I'd known going in that I haven't seen mentioned. So, without further ado, here's my college advice- the Type B personality edition.
 1. More than anything, I want to emphasize that just because you're staying up late and working for hours and stressing out DOES NOT EQUAL being an amazing student. If you're not sleeping well and dividing your time up well, you're not gonna be capable of your best work. So my advice is to work smarter, not harder. Join study groups, go to office hours, go to tutoring or the writing center. Dont make your own flashcards if you don't have to- most of the time, someone who's taken the class before will have study sets on quizlet you can use, and that saves so much time and stress. Just be nice and make sure to make your own study sets public when you make them, it's a fair trade. You can also usually find YouTube videos from experts summarizing issues that you're uncertain about. Some of this seems obvious, but it'll all save you time.
 2. This kind of fits in with the first point, but go to class and take hand written notes. You can type them up later if your handwriting isnt great, but you'll remember things you write down better. You're also less likely to get distracted during the lecture. Also, check to see if your professor posts the lectures. If they do, you can print them before class and take notes on anything they say that wasn't in the slides.
 3. Have a buddy in every class. We all miss sometimes, and its easier to catch up if someone is willing to send you their notes. Also friends are a good thing to have.
 4. If you like to procrastinate, write the wrong due date in your planner. This has saved my life and also my GPA. When you go to turn in the project or paper and discover you have extra time, it's like a little gift to yourself. Use it to edit, or to relax or stress cry. Really, just do with it what you want
 5. Don't nap. Unless you work nights, then definitely nap. But napping will seriously screw with your sleep schedule, and you'll lose valuable daylight hours. I promise you, you'll do better work at 3 pm than at 3 am.
 6. Stop doing homework an hour before you go to bed. There's a long psychological/neurological explanation for why you should do this, but the basic idea is that your brain will process and store what you've studied better if you give it time before you go to sleep. I personally never study after 11 pm, and I have a 3.7 so that's gotta count for something.
 7. Don’t do what I just did. No one wants to hear you brag about your GPA. College is hard and everyone's already competitive enough as it is.
 8. If you have breaks between classes, don’t go home. "I'll just have a snack between classes," you say. "I'll just take a quick nap, or I can study at my desk." Listen. That is the devil talking. Pack a snack, drink some coffee, and spend your breaks at the library. You'll thank me when you don’t have to do all that work at 2 a.m.
 9. Get an accordion folder and a five subject notebook. You'll thank me when you never have to worry about bringing the wrong stuff to class. Your back will thank me when the weight of your backpack doesn’t cause you to need physical therapy (you think I'm exaggerating, but I literally needed PT for this reason).
 10. Exercise. I'm begging you. Your brain is so much happier and more functional when you do. I'm not saying you have to become a gym rat. Stretch before bed, take a walk around the library when your brain is fried, take the stairs instead of an elevator. Getting an actual workout in is better, but it's not realistic for everybody. Just don’t get sedentary. Your brain and your body will thank me later.
 11. Eating healthy sucks. Pizza is better than salad and You Can't Change My Mind. So trick yourself into eating healthy. Green smoothies taste amazing; green tea has caffeine and is good for your metabolism; some protein shakes don’t taste like ass (I drink a lot of them so message me if you want suggestions); stir fry is heaven; there are many companies that now make vegetable "chips" that are not processed and have all the same value of actual veggies without the effort of making veggies. I'm a mindless snacker who just wants to sweet release of biting something crunchy and salty so these are a godsend.
 12. Don't cheat on people. Don't date people just so you don’t have to be single. Don’t get into "things." Treat other people right, and make sure they're treating you right too. My friends are all in difficult majors but the number one cause of stress in most of their lives is shitty relationship decisions. Don’t do that. Be smart. Make me proud, son.
 13. Schedule time for yourself. Honest to God, write it in your planner. "Saturday from 10 to noon I will sit in my pajamas and drink hot chocolate and watch netflix and no one is permitted to talk to me." Don’t waste a whole day on stuff like that, but in college you're with your friends constantly (especially roommates) and even the most extroverted person on earth needs alone time. Make it happen.
14. Unfollow and block to your heart's content. You are not obligated to give social media validation to people who make you unhappy or uncomfortable. It ain't that deep.
 15. You're already paying for the counseling center through your tuition. You might as well go.
 16. Dont live with your best friend, I guarantee you they're a bad roommate. I've been there. I've been her. We are all worse in the comfort of our own rooms than we are the rest of the time.
 17. Condoms please and thanks. No unwrapped d**k is worth your health, and if you get pregnant in college the desks are very small and difficult to fit a belly into. And who wants to get an abortion when you can just avoid the whole mess all together. Safe sex babes.
 18. Weed isnt that great and neither is alcohol. But both pale in comparison to how incredibly lame and pointless vaping is. Dont do it kids. Not even once.
 19. Join a club or befriend your coworkers. Sometimes you need a get away from your main group of friends, and you can never have too many friends.
 20. If you talk too much in class, then on behalf of your classmates, please reconsider your choices. Especially in psychology classes. We know when you're trying to diagnose yourself, even if you think you're being subtle. Go to the counseling center if need be, there's professionals there.
This is not at all a comprehensive list, and it may not be valuable to everyone. But I'm more than halfway done with college and based on my experiences and those of my friends, I think this is absolutely vital information for some people.

day six | do you binge? if yes, explain why you think you do | 8/17/21
i am indeed the type of person who binges.
i remember the last time i answered this, i said i didn’t anymore... that i was better. but that’s not true. i will always be a person who is predisposed and prone to binging, but just like an alcoholic, it will be a daily battle against that compulsion that was most likely written into my DNA from birth.
on the surface, i binge for a multitude of reasons. for example, if i restrict myself too much to the point where i feel deprived, i am vulnerable to eating all the snacks in the house once we get home from a grocery shop. if i feel particularly emotionally unstable, i will feel the need to find something sweet and/or salty to try to “fill the void.” i will turn the house upside down to do this. i am prone to saying “fuck it” and binge entire packages of chips, cookies, and sweets in one sitting.
i will eat family sized boxes of cereal because i like the texture of milk and crunchiness, as well as the taste. i will binge just because i feel the need to indulge, or i will binge because i feel the need to fill the void of boredom with eating and watching several youtube videos. i will eat mindlessly so i can get to the next package of food, for a new taste. i will eat to feel soothed by the physical act of putting hand or fork to mouth, biting down, chewing, tasting, swallowing, rinse and repeat. it’s meditative to me. it’s embedded within me to enjoy food the way i do.
but just because this is a tendency of mine doesn’t mean it has to become law within me. i still have conscious power over my subconscious wills and desires. it will be a battle, but the more i don’t feed the urge (quite literally), the less power it will have over me. that’s all it is.
food intake log:
2 oreos : 140c
3 neapolitan wafers : 115c
teacup chocolate milk : ~50c
3.5 hamburger buns : ~470c
2 hamburger patties : ~ 340c
2 turkey patties : ~300c
ice tea : 50c
total: ~1500c
BAD. DAY.
i wasn’t paying attention. i am allowing myself at least 2-3 wafers and 2 oreos per day if the day is going well, because it’s essentially training my portion control for sweets in the future. but the fucking meats today.... i need to be more careful.
as soon as my phone is charged, i’ll be burning at LEAST 500c on a bike ride and i will definitely be jump roping as well. i want to get the net value down to at least 800.
the good news is that the sudden increase in calories has probably confused my metabolism a bit. i know that after a while it’ll just try to downregulate to get used to the ~1,000c per day thing. but i also have to make sure to put some 500c days in there to confuse it even further. tomorrow will be one of those days.
biking calorie calculator says for my height, weight, age, sex, etc, i need to bike for around an hour to burn 500c if i keep the pace at 10-12 mph. that’s perfectly doable for me. i need to get on that asap. i am NOT letting these calories sit in my stomach just to be converted into fat. just because it’s below my BMR of around 16-1700 doesn’t mean i will compromise my 1,000 per day rule.
do better. tomorrow will be 500c only, which means no snacks of any kind, just one SELF MADE meal. no family made dinners allowed. make a tuna sandwich or two and call it a day.

Days 1-7
Tumblr media
DAY ONE [JAN 1 2021]
8:00 AM - I’m back! It’s been a few years since I’ve done this and I thought it would be cool to try again. There are a lot of differences with COVID in my life – I mostly don’t leave the house and we [K and I - same boyfriend] are waiting for the vaccine before integrating back.
10:00 AM - Grab a handful of chex mix, make a chemex, and zone out on the couch for a bit. It’s been a really slow week all around, but good. I’ve gotten a lot of cleaning stuff done and I’m hoping to wrap up my to-do list this weekend.
11:45 AM - Clean the kitchen and shoot black bean burgers for my recipe blog. I started this sometime in 2018 but really picked things up in 2019 and even more so with being home in 2020. I have a goal to turn this into a lucrative side gig by the time I have kids which won’t be for a few more years.
2:30 PM - Burgs turn out great and photograph well too. K and I eat them with a side of chips and salsa and a seltzer.
4:30 PM - K, KP (dog), and I take a 1-mile walk. I do a Pure Barre livestream after. I’m doing the platinum challenge this year (15 classes x 12 months), so my first class of 180 is done! Hah. Decide I want to buy some stickers for the chart I made to track my classes so I buy a pack on Amazon. $7.44
6:30 PM - Make cauliflower rice for dinner with tofu. Put Mamafuku crunchy chili sauce on it that friends gifted us for Christamas.
10:30 - Get a nasty text from my mom about refinancing my house. I want to put K on the title, but it turns out I will get taxed a gift since we are not married (yet!). Kind of annoying, but K and I decide to just wait until that happens. Also my parents suck with anything non-traditional and it is becoming a huge problem in our relationship.
DAY ONE TOTAL: $7.44
DAY TWO
9:30 AM - Make a chemex. Feeling a little off from last night and the way my mom seems to think she can step all over me. Watch Youtube [Dessert Person] and start to edit photos from yesterday.
12:00 PM - Make soyrizo tofu (for me) / egg (for K) scramble tacos for brunch.
1:00 PM - Can’t decide on which color background is better for these burgers and after polling my friends one of them suggests and A/B test. The nerd in me is so down and I build the campaign in Facebook. Open a seltzer. $10
3:30 PM - Ride the Peloton for 10 minutes (Trying to integrate this more into my workouts - I love it, but I love barre more!) and then do a barre stream. I email the studio about the new warmup since I seem to have hurt my lower back from yesterday’s workout.
5:00 PM - K is tired of finding my hair literally everywhere so we decide it’s time to cut it - I haven’t had a cut since December 2019. He chops off a good 6-8 inches. It looks ok!
6:30 PM - Heat up leftover lasagna rolls and air fry some green beans for dinner. Eat a piece of peppermint bark while everything heats.

6:30 PM - Heat up leftover lasagna rolls and air fry some green beans for dinner. Eat a piece of peppermint bark while everything heats.
8:00 PM - Pour myself a glass of rosé and rummage for snacks - eat a small handful of chex mix and some gf pretzel sticks.
9:00 PM - Looks like yellow is winning the A/B test by about 2%! I build out the rest of the assets for the post so it’s ready to go first thing tomorrow.
DAY TWO TOTAL: $10
DAY THREE
9:30 AM - Chemex and a handful of chex mix. Turn on Raptors / Pelicans game from yesterday. Wrap up my black bean burger post and get it up into the interspace.
1:00 PM - Wow that took 100 years. I’m really trying to amp up my posting signal, and what normally takes 30 minutes took an hour. Blah. Need to get away from screens.
2:00 PM - Eat leftover black bean burgs for lunch with chips & salsa with a Polar seltzer. Set chairs up in the backyard. NY Friend is in town and he and Q are stopping by. Q paid me back the last of the ~$2k he owed me sometime last summer. We’ve remained very close and I don’t feel like our friendship has been affected by this transaction in a negative way!
5:15 PM - NYF & Q head out. Jump on a zoom with K’s family for a bit and then hop over to another one with some of my girlfriends. Pour a glass of rosé.
8:00 PM - Watch the last two minutes of the Suns game (they lost). Need to eat. Heat up a Big Sur Breakfast Burrito for dinner with tortilla chips and truffle hot sauce. Check analytics on black bean burg it’s doing REALLY well. Yay!
9:30 PM - Make brine for ham seitan and check my fantasy teams (I’m in two NBA leagues). Both are on track to win this week!
DAY THREE TOTAL: $0
DAY FOUR
7:00 AM - Pure Barre weekly charge. $15
8:30 AM - Cue that They Might Be Giants Song, I Don’t Want to Go to Work. Pull on a pair of fitted sweats with an Everlane tee. Make a chemex and seitan ham dough. Open my computer and discover that Slack is down. Do some misc reddit things before returning to emails.
9:30 AM - KP barfs on the carpet. Gross. K helps me clean it up. Wash hands and toss seitan ham in the oven.
10:00 AM - Eat siggi’s plant-based yogurt for breakfast. This is by far the best vegan yogurt out there. 10/10 - vanilla is the best.
11:45 AM - My seitan exploded. Damn. It’ll still taste good but I hate when that happens! Eat a piece of rye toast.
12:45 PM - Eat a leftover lasagna rollup for lunch along with the last of the chex mix. Open a Polar seltzer.
4:30 PM - Here’s the part where you stop reading already because of generational wealth - Dad calls and says there was enough money in the family trust this year for every grandchild to get $5k and that he transferred the money into my account. This was a total surprise - we thought last year was supposed to be it. Always eternally grateful for all of the gifts my grandparents have given me over the years and 2021 is no exception. Check my account and see my stimulus also hit today. What a day to be alive.
5:30 PM - Do a Pure Barre live stream, take a birdbath, and get ready for the grocery order. We order Instacart every 2.5 weeks and it’s always a production to wash and put everything away. In this order, we get frozen burritos, tofu, tortilla chips, riced broccoli, real cheese, vegan cheese, frozen corn, plant-based yogurt, cloves, low carb tortillas, bread, onions, scallions, bell peppers sauerkraut, pickles, relish, vegan butter, sprouts, bananas, basil, green beans, vegetable bouillon, chickpeas, oranges, romaine, grapes, clementines, black beans, vegan mayo, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, thyme, rosemary, cauliflower, garlic, lemon, celery, cucumbers, limes, jalapenos, apples, horseradish, leeks, cilantro, marinara sauce, dark chocolate, frozen peas, olives, BBQ sauce, salsa, pepperoncinis, mustard, lasagna noodles, & lemon juice. $324.11
8:15 PM - Finish up seitan ham and roast potatoes to go with veggie sandwiches. We eat these at the start of every grocery run and they have Dave’s Killer Bread, Vegenaise, vegan cheese, seitan ham, cucumber, onions, red bell pepper, sprouts, romaine, and red wine vinegar. So delicious. Pour a rosé after dinner.
DAY FOUR TOTAL: $339.11
DAY FIVE
8:15 AM - Lay in bed thinking about the generosity of my grandparents. Decide to put $3k of the money into my investment account, $1k into HYSA, and put the last $1k off to the side for wardrobe improvements – I lost some weight last year and NONE of my clothes fit. I have 4 dresses that are work-appropriate and the rest - I gifted to friends and others in need. For the most part, I’m waiting until COVID winds down and I have to be in public again before buying much just in case my size changes again.
9:00 AM - Chemex, banana and a clementine for breakfast. KP seems to be feeling better today.
12:30 PM - Make K and I salads for lunch with romaine, cucumber, bell pepper, tomato, chickpeas, red onion, and cashew ranch. Open a Polar seltzer.
2:00 PM - Yard guy texts me and says he never got December’s payment. He says it’s totally chill but it’s absolutely not because he did a crap ton of work on our side yard. Pay him plus an extra $20 immediately and schedule something for the weekend so he can get the rest of the leaves out front. $180
3:00 PM - Last night I found the DDR subreddit and honestly couldn’t be more happy. I LOVED the game and still have my gear from middle school. I drop in the shed to find my mat and dust it off to use for later. Also eat a handful of gf pretzels. Venmo my old coworker for a joint bday present for another old coworker. $25.30
4:00 PM - Work is finally slow so I change into my exercise clothes early and do pure barre livestream. I make it through the entire workout uninterrupted and try DDR for the first time in a hot minute.
5:45 PM - That was SO fun. I played for 30 minutes. Did mostly songs on standard but had way better stamina than other times I’ve tried to pick it back up again when I’ve been extremely out of shape and couldn’t really keep up + light songs are boring so this was just a treat.
7:30 PM - Make leftover bean, rice and cheeze burritos for dinner with chips and homemade chile de arbol salsa. Drink a glass of wine after.
DAY FIVE TOTAL: $205.30
DAY SIX
8:50 AM - I slept through my alarm? Or turned it off. Weird. My butt is so sore today from yesterday’s workout. Make a chemex. Eat a banana.
10:00 AM - Have a call with a mortgage loan officer and give him the official green light to proceed with refinancing my house. Interest rates are so good right now. Shortening my loan by 4 years and mortgage will only go up by $20! Give the guy my card number to pay for the appraisal and credit check. Goodbye stimulus. $658.66
12:30 PM - K turns on the news to watch the Trumpers protest. I make a salad for myself for lunch and toss one for him in the fridge. Attend virtual therapy. Got some good things to think about and am energized after. Therapist doesn’t take insurance so this is OOP. $90
2:15 PM - Tune into the news. What a giant cluster. I don’t have much to add to the conversation. I’m disgusted but not surprised. Eat 2 clementines and a handful of gf pretzels.
5:30 PM - Do a barre livestream. Start to catch myself feeling a little wonky halfway through and make a nuun. Perk up after 5 minutes and finish strong.
7:00 PM - Make veggie sandwiches for dinner with miso butter broccoli. Watch the news for a while, finish a book about abusive partners (I grew up with a lot of abuse and still deal with it from family members who suck), pour a glass of rosé and eat a couple chocolate squares and a few sweedish fish.
12:30 AM - Fall asleep on the couch. At some point I wake up and sleepily eat a few mini pretzels on my way to the bedroom.
DAY SIX TOTAL - $748.66
DAY SEVEN
8:50 AM - Sleep in again but this time on purpose. Make a chemex and eat a banana and two clementines for breakfast. Make an effort to drink water too.
10:00 AM - My back has been feeling really bumpy lately and I think I need to get that layer of bacteria off since my regular cleanser isn’t cutting it. Buy a bar of zinc soap from Amazon. $14.04
1:30 PM - Eat K’s salad from yesterday so it doesn’t go bad with a Polar seltzer.
4:00 PM - Work has been wild today. Lots of calls. Good progress, but not so much for a major report I have due soon. Hopefully I’ll be able to finalize it tomorrow so it’s off my desk. Eat some grapes.
5:30 PM - Ride the Peloton for 10 minutes and do a barre live stream.
7:00 PM - Rinse off, do the dishes, roast potatoes in the oven, make the last of the black bean burgers for dinner. Spend the rest of the evening working on the header and footer templates for this project, reading Remain in Love, and watching NBA.
DAY SEVEN TOTAL: $14.04

10 best Chinese food restaurants in the Long Beach area for takeout, delivery – Press Telegram
Tumblr media
It is, easily, the most iconic to-go container in culinary history — a Totem of Takeout, an origami box built for noodles, pork, shrimp and chicken. It’s technically an isosceles trapezoid solid, a three-dimensional representation of a high school geometry problem.
The Chinese food takeout container was born in the last decade of the 19th century, when it was known as an “oyster pail” because, well, it was used for to-go orders of oysters. It was also used, for many years, for honey — and was until after World War II, when Chinese takeout competed with pizza for the food most Americans took home to eat while watching The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” on small black-and-white TV screens. And for most Chinese restaurants, it’s still the standard for takeout.
This white, waxed container more often than not comes with a red drawing of a pagoda on the side (which is, of course, Japanese) and the words “Enjoy” and “Thank You” emblazoned on the top, and over the fold. Some years ago, the Smithsonian paid tribute to the container with an exhibit called “Sweet & Sour: A Look at the History of Chinese Food in the United States.” And the phrase “sweet & sour” is especially apt, for this is not a container built for searing spices of Szechuan and Hunanese cooking. I guess dim sum will work okay in the boxes. But dim sum isn’t what comes to mind.
Rather, the box is for the classics of Chinese-American cooking. For meals consisting of one from column A, two from column B, white rice and fortune cookies at meal’s end. It meant chicken chop suey, pork fried rice, sweet-and-sour something or other, egg foo young, and lots and lots of tea. It was something you ate on Sunday nights with family. And an hour later, in the old American anti-vegetable parlance, you were hungry again. Or at least you were if your basic diet consisted of white bread and deep-fried everything.
Chop suey is the defining dish when it comes to Chinese-American cooking. The name may (or may not) come from the Cantonese sap seui, which translates as “mixed leftovers.” It was a mishmash, created in the mid-1800s by Chinese immigrants to make their native food more appealing to American taste, what there was of it.
Since there was no bok choy or white radishes or soybean sprouts to use, celery, bell peppers and onions became the ingredients of choice, with shredded meat added, and enough soy sauce to turn the white rice black. Louis Armstrong recorded a song in the 1920s called “Cornet Chop Suey.” It was culinary jazz. There’s an Edward Hopper painting called “Chop Suey” — which is not of food, but of two women, seated in a restaurant, with a sign out the window that reads “suey.”
And it was chop suey that I went looking for. Or at least chow mein and lo mein. In the case of chop suey, old school Chinese-American cooking. In the case of chow mein and lo mein, the Cantonese cuisine which faded in recent years behind a veil of super-spiced cooking. In either case, this is soul satisfying food to take home, and be filled with nostalgia, as you sip your tea, eat your rice, and enjoy your chow, eaten directly from the container with chopsticks, if you can’t muster the energy to put it on a plate or in a bowl.
This is food that tastes good no matter how you gobble it. And if you want, you can still find Ed Sullivan on YouTube. This is a journey into the past, taken one bite at a time.
2930 Clark Ave., Long Beach; 562-982-4288
Let us begin, then, with a Chinese restaurant that exists for takeout only — the perfect restaurant in these difficult times.
The original Yang Chow in Chinatown (with a branch is Pasadena) has been a much-loved destination for those hungry for a cult collection of Chinese dishes — especially the Slippery Shrimp, a dazzling, and deeply addictive creation of chubby shrimp, tender and firm textured, battered, crisped, then cooked in a sauce that’s both sweet and spicy at the same time.
Yang Chow 2.0 is not far from Long Beach Airport, with a handful of tables and a limited menu. There’s Slippery Shrimp, Slippery Chicken and Slippery Tofu, along with sweet & sour chicken, sweet & sour pork, beef with broccoli, Szechuan beef, Szechuan chicken, string beans and a handful of fried rice dishes. The only appetizer is the spring roll. That’s pretty much it. And aside from not offering my much-loved cold noodles with sesame and chicken, I’m happy as a clam to grab an order to go, which emerges from the kitchen with crazy speed.
I’m told the original chef from Chinatown is making the dishes. He’s been working the wok for decades. One bite, and it’s clear — and the food travels very well.

Chinese food, including stir-fried pork with red sauce, has long been a tasty option for takeout and delivery. (Shutterstock)
18349 Pioneer Blvd., Artesia; 562-924-4567, www.nankingchineseca.com
Can you be both post-modernist Indian and old school Chinese at the same time — with a menu that often combines the two? Nanking Indo-Chinese manages that hat trick, which is no small accomplishment. This is a classic Chinese restaurant and not a classic Chinese restaurant at the same time. Here, they manage to walk and chew gum at the same time, with no trouble at all. You want chow mein with chicken or shrimp? There it is. Ditto kung pao lo mein (“kung pao” is code for “cashews and peanuts”), kung pao vegetables, fried rice, chili-garlic fried rice, and hot & sour soup.
Nanking offers the food of both the leading cuisines of Artesia, both Indian and Chinese, under one roof. It’s a restaurant where you can order both chicken tikka masala, and kung pao cashew chicken, at the same meal. And why wouldn’t you want to? Variety, after all, really is the spice.
Defining the cooking at Nanking can be a tad challenging, even for the restaurant. At one point on the website, the owners say they “offer traditional Indian, Chinese and Nepali food.” A few sentences down, the cuisines fuse into “Indian-Chinese food.” One sentence later, Nanking is a “truly Indian restaurant.”
Even the name of the city is somewhat befuddling. Nanking is the capital of Jiangsu Province, on the eastern edge of China, not far from Shanghai. But far from India. It’s all a big jumble. Which would be bothersome, if it weren’t so much fun. Especially when it comes to parsing the roots of the dishes, most of which are either Indian or Chinese, but several of which hit both points on the culinary compass.
There is, for instance, a dish called Chinese bhel. It seems to be a modified variation of the snack dish called bhel puri, a very tasty mix of puffed rice, veggies and tamarind sauce — one of the many small chaat dishes that you’ll find at the numerous Indian snack shops in Artesia. In this case, it’s made “Chinese” with the addition of thin crunchy noodles, in a spicy-sweet sauce. Is it Indian? Is it Chinese? Is it both? Whatever…it’s a good snack, and goes well with beer.
That’s also the case with the Szechuan fries, which is just what they sound like: French fries flavored with Szechuan spices. If anything, they’re more an American-Chinese dish; Rachael Ray has a recipe online, and there are numerous YouTube videos of how to make it. Which doesn’t take much skill. Less skill than the chicken lollipops, which are essentially Buffalo chicken wings, but once again with a Szechuan sauce. It’s nice how a few spices can turn one cuisine into another.
Perhaps the most blended dish on the menu is the Szechuan paneer, which involves tossing usually bland Indian paneer cheese, which is like a child of cottage cheese and ricotta, with that same Szechuan sauce, turning spiceless into happily spicy — a very good idea. Under the enticing heading “Bombay Style Chinese” — Szechuan prawns, chili chicken, shrimp & cashew curry and so on.
Four of the five noodle dishes are straight-forward Chinese, with the red curry spice Malaysian noodles being the outsider. There’s a very small section of Nepalese dishes, just four. But among the rice dishes, the cuisines of origin move around Asia; Kashmiri pulao, Chinese fried rice, Szechuan fried rice, Thai fried rice. The desserts are solidly Indian — though I’m not sure of the mango soufflé, which may be French, and causes that much more ethnic confusion.
6563 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., Long Beach; 562-430-6888, www.nomadasianbistro.com
Like Nanking Indo-Chinese, Nomad Asian likes to move around the map — appropriate for a restaurant named “Nomad.”
In terms of old school Chinese dishes, there are plenty. Chow mein (described on the menu as as “spaghetti chow mein noodle”), with chicken, beef, shrimp, vegetables or a combo three-flavor. The chow mein is also available “handmade” (“wide flat noodle”) for $2 more. There’s Three Flavor Spicy Curry Fried Rice (“blendo” time again!), three-flavor fried rice, and Singapore noodles.
The menu stretches to about 100 dishes. And among them, you’ll find many of dishes so many of us grew up with — good, old-fashioned chop suey, made with chicken or beef. (And with sole, which is a new one on me.) There are wonton “stars,” filled with cream cheese and “krab.”
If you long for wonton soup, here it is. The classic dishes here are well prepared — they bring back lots of happy memories of the Chinese food we used to live on. I’m happy to dig into a plate of spring rolls, with chicken or with veggies. The honey-ginger chicken wings are pretty sweet, maybe too sweet, but that didn’t keep me from inhaling them. And much the same can be said of sugary preparations like the orange chicken, the honey-ginger fried chicken, the orange beef, the honey walnut shrimp and so forth. A reminder that back in the day, we liked our Chinese food sweet.
Indeed, we probably liked all our food sweet; remember Jell-O salads? But times change, and tastes evolve. Which is why the Hui dishes (or at least the dishes from the Northern Provinces) are so appealing. Northern Chinese cooking involves a lot of lamb — and over there, more likely mutton than lamb.
The cumin lamb is a wonderful thing — tender and sweet, as lamb tends to be, in a thick basting of pungent cumin. The lamb with scallions, is also heavy with garlic and ginger — a major flavor explosion. There’s lamb with pickled cabbage and dry red chiles, and lamb with garlic and jalapeños. There’s lamb tripe and lamb offal. Which is not a dish for those who dream of fried rice. Lamb offal is also served as a soup. And, there’s lamb with pickled cabbage. A litany of strong flavors that set Nomad apart.
11740 Artesia Blvd., Artesia; 562-809-3887, www.omarskitchenla.com
You’ll notice that there’s no pork on the menu at Omar’s Halal Chinese, for “Halal” refers to the Islamic code of permissible ingredients, of which pork (akin to kosher) is not one. The menu also notes that the chicken, beef and lamb are “100 Percent Zabihah” — which means they’ve been slaughtered following a well-established code of ethical rules (once again, akin to kosher).
This is the cooking of northern and western China, with its sizable Muslim population. And of the Uyghur people who live in the adjoining regions — and have their own adjoining section of of dishes on the menu. And having taken care of the technical details, let me tell you how good the food is. If it’s the classics you hunger for, there’s kung pao beef and kung pao chicken, General Tso’s chicken, orange chicken and Szechuan chicken. There’s chow mein with lamb, beef, chicken or shrimp; and fried rice with the same foursome.
But beyond this, what dominates is a menu of lamb and spice heavy dishes. Indeed, an entire section of the menu is dedicated solely to lamb — 17 dishes that, recited in a row, sound a bit like the classic Monty Python Spam routine — jalapeño lamb, basil lamb, curry lamb, lamb with green onion, kung pao lamb and so forth. There are also lamb kebabs, cumin lab, cumin lamb kidneys, cumin lamb ribs, lamb dumplings and lamb potstickers. And lamb soup, which sits on the menu next to haggis soup — which is made with lamb parts.
I don’t think there’s any lamb among the seafood dishes. But I could be wrong. And the Uyghur cumin lamb dishes are so intense, they can be tasted days later. Their cold noodles are an exercise in taste, texture and temperature — the cold noodles with cumin lamb is essential at Omar’s. The fried lamb ribs with hot pepper sauce isn’t for the faint of palate. Luckily, there’s homemade yogurt to cool you down — though this is yogurt for those who love the sourness of yogurt; this isn’t Chobani. This is the sort of food that makes you sweat, cooling you off on a hot day in Artesia.
Tasty Noodle House
11316 South St., Cerritos; 562-809-1333
For those who keep track of such things — and there are more than a few of us who do — there are plenty of “tasty” Chinese restaurants around. Here in Southern California, there’s China Tasty, Tasty Dining, Tasty Duck, Tasty Wok, Hunan Tasty, Asia Tasty, Tasty Zones, Xi’An Tasty, Tasty Goody, Tasty Chinese and Tasty Garden. (Sadly, the wonderfully named O’Tasty, in Washington DC, is closed.)
And, for those collecting their “tasties,” there’s the Tasty Noodle House chain, with branches in Irvine, Hacienda Heights, Walnut, Chino Hills, San Diego — and right here in Cerritos, where every day, all day, you can get tasty noodles and tasty dumplings to go! How tasty is that? You could probably eat here a dozen times, and never order a noodle dish at all. With a dozen appetizers, nine non-noodle soups, 16 dim sum items, about 20 rice dishes, and more than 50 entrees, the noodles of the name can get lost. Though not for long. There are some some 50 noodle soups and noodle dishes as well.
But I wouldn’t pass on the the green onion pancakes, the chive and shrimp dumplings, the cilantro fish dumplings, and the soupy xiao long bao — a dish with a cult following that’s easy to understand, and which travels unexpectedly well.
Did I mention the grilled pork bun? I should; and I now I have. And I do need to segue into the noodles, if only to kvell over the spicy cold noodles with shredded chicken, a longtime passion of mine, that always makes me wonder why I love cold noodles so much. The taste seems so much more intense when the noodles are cold than when they’re hot — though that may be an illusion. But then, much of what we perceive as taste is hard to define.
As a vegetable dish, and there are many, I ate too much of the pan-seared green chile peppers, which aren’t quite as hot as they sound, though they are hot. Not hot at all, and maybe even better, was the eggplant and mixed mushroom with basil. But then, I have a thing for both eggplants and mushrooms, and lots of them. And for spice. It makes the long evenings at home so much more bearable.
More good choices

TACO BELL’S CRUNCHY CONTENT MARKETING FIRE
I remember being a kid eating Taco Bell and thinking it was authentic Mexican food, with their basic burritos, tacos, salads, tostadas, and more. I also remember growing years later in high school, and drunkenly grabbing Taco Bell to go at 3 AM. But eating at Taco Bell was really always an afterthought. Some fast food spot like McDonalds, Burger King, and Carl’s Jr., I didn’t really care about and moved on towards the toilet the next morning. Just kidding. But really. It wasn’t until I ended up randomly following them on Twitter, and seeing some of the funny posts they did, that I realized that I was eating it more and more.
Tumblr media
Now, as we all know, Taco Bell is king for young people to indulge themselves in cheap and fast Mexican rip off eatery. Delicious Crunch Wrap Supremes, Beefy 5-layer Burrito, Smothered Burrito, Chalupa Supreme, Cheesy Gordita Crunch Dorito Tacos, with their cheesy processed goodness, and barely legal processed meat. Mmm. Fire. Yum. How the hell do they make their foods sound so good?
I mean, as much as I would like to go on about their fire foods, I should probably talk about some of the things that Taco Bell does right to get their audiences intrigued with their content, as well as a few ways Taco bell has successfully engaged with their customers through content marketing across various social media platforms.
Embracing their personality
It’s pretty clear who Taco Bell is targeting. If you take a look at their Instagram and Twitter, you’ll notice that they have solidified their target demographic to younger audiences, namely millennials, gravitating towards sarcastic and humorous attitudes, punchy and vibey colors, and all-around creative fun that ties directly into trendy events.
How are they so successful with engaging with their target audience? Younger audiences are always keen on staying updated with the most current news, data, information, and popular culture, and since Taco Bell understands that, they’ve been able to get the demographic to engage. Additionally, many companies Twitter accounts are set up with automated response ticketing programs that robotically answer tweets across the platform. Taco Bell doesn’t do that; by genuinely connecting to their audience on a more personal level and in real time, people feel a sense of trust with the Taco Bell brand, sensing that Taco Bell is customer oriented. “The main difference in strategy now vs. before is that what we are doing today in social media is real-time, and we listen and engage all the time,” said Nick Tran, head of social media at Taco Bell, in an interview with CMO.com.
Examples of how Taco Bell engages with their audiences on multiple channels
Twitter:
Taco Bell replies to the most common of peoples tweets, and engages with them through witty responses (responses any millennial would probably tweet their friends).
There is one where they reply to someone who posted a picture of them with their friends, and responded with “when your squad lit”:
Tumblr media
Here is one where Taco Bell responds to someone’s tweet about romance:
Tumblr media
YouTube:
I personally think Taco Bell does a great job at engaging with their audiences, by creating customization videos to a lot of choices for their foods. They create interesting instructional videos that break down parts of their products, and replaces them with other ingredients to either make it taste differently, or even better.
This is the type of engagement that resonates with a lot of younger audiences. When a company decides to let their customers have the power to choose an alternative product, or at least the illusion of it, customers feel personally connected to the product and the brand. This in turn creates a lot of re-engagement with the brand. And since food is a universally welcomed subject, different audiences can utilize their content for different applications.

Here is a link on how to hack your Crunchwrap Supreme recipe to make it taste even better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKfuWjan_kE
Instagram:
Here are some pictures that engage with their audiences based on events that are upcoming:
Tumblr media
“This Halloween, we’re going all out with our first Taco Bell inspired costume contest. Prizes include $1,000, $500 Taco Bell gift card, a trip for you and a friend to Taco Bell’s headquarters and test kitchen, and collaborating with us to produce your costume for fans to buy next Halloween.”
In retrospect, it is pretty interesting how everything kind of culminates together to form this ultra perfect snack that caters directly to Taco Bell’s target demographic: young people like me. Taco Bell’s marketing strategy is working, and with their personal approach to handling tweets both directly and indirectly, their YouTube engaging with customers through medium length videos aimed to expand their creativity, its pretty cool that they and unsurprising they are this successful on social media.
