#Jason and tim have a special place in my heart

Note
I adore fics where Tim somehow ends up with two people he has to pretend to be. Like one if him, Tim drake, and the other is some guy, usually the two identities are related somehow and omg I adore how every author uses that idea
Are you talking about Tim and his penchant for fake identities? Cause that is always a hilarious (or angsty) dynamic to explore. My favorites include ones where one of his fake identities is wanted or banned in certain countries.
Identity shenanigans are also fun to explore (especially if someone he interacts with has strong but oppositie opinions for his different identities). "1-800-GOTHAM" by goldfishinabag is a great one.
I was trying to find this one fic where Jason and Tim meet up at a diner, and Jason, having not looked at the picture Talia gave him of Timothy Drake, befriends Tim while hating Robin. Couldn't find it, though :(
Fics where Tim hides his identity from the Bats will also always have a special place in my heart

Hello, yes, the Gotham Knights cutscene where Jason was trying out his new “rubber bullets” on dummies and Tim stepped right into the line of fire and dared Jason to shoot if he really thought the bullets were soft enough to be non-lethal and Jason recoiled in horror?
I still think about that at least once a day. 🥺✨

Time for Yan! Dickie boi with cat villain reader
Tumblr media
(go read my other cat villain blurbs/drabbles/headcannons if you haven’t!!) (i wonder if i should have a tag for this reader specifically at this point)
As your first Robin, Dick Grayson has a very special place in your heart.
The issue lies in the fact that the area he owned was far too small especially in comparison to his successors.
Whereas Tim was your best friend, Jason was and will be the only Robin you ever truly loved. In a way that’s unconditional, passionate and most of all relentless.
You thought you loved Dick but you realized soon enough that it was not sparks in your stomach moreso just the thrill and excitement of a ‘romance’ with the enemy.
Dick…
He never really recovered from your breakup. You were his first love. Sure, he dated other people afterwards but they were mostly in an attempt to move on or ease the pain of your abandonment.
Poor boy blamed himself for not being good enough for you. He didn’t know that you were falling for his brother while you were dating and so it was just all so sudden for him. One moment you two were planning to get married and have children, and in the next it was all gone.
Once he finally finds out that it was your fault, I definitely see him rekindling your relationship in the worst ways possible.
It starts out in secret. He recollects all of your little plans together for the future, finally giving into the domestic thoughts that have been so bitter to him ever since you left. He builds a nursery, he places photos of when the two of you were dating (previously torn apart in rage and sadness), and most of all he makes sure that everything is tailored so that when you’re finally back together you won’t ever want to leave.
He hated himself for thinking so, but he felt himself smiling — he was … glad that Jason died that day. And even if Jay was back, you
You start seeing him more often.
In fights, as civilians.
He was always a bit restless around you after the breakup but now he was back to being as confident and cocky as ever.
You were happy for him, but also much too preoccupied by what Jason was asking you to do (read drabble)
That made capturing you all the more easy.
“Here now, kitty kitty. Back home where you belong.”

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
Description: Y/N Wayne brings a very special guest to dinner.
Word Count: 0.8k
Warnings: Cursing
Tumblr media
It was rare that all of the bat children were summoned for a reason outside of their nightly duties. It was a sign that shenanigans were about to ensue and Bruce normally took this as a sign to drink heavily. Usually, it was because of Y/N but these little gatherings always left strong memories on each sibling.
"Do we need to be here for this?" Jason asked feeling a bit stuffy in his white button-up shirt. He already rolled up the sleeves and undid the first two buttons.
"Yeah, Y/N gets a new boyfriend like every week," Duke said looking through his comic book. He didn't have anything else to do but this was not how he wanted to spend his day off.
"This is different apparently. She said and I quote 'It's serious this time. I would have his kids,'" Tim used air quotations when explaining why all of them are waiting for Y/N to show up for dinner.
"Hell, maybe I will stick around," Jason said intrigued by the idea of his sister wanting to have someone's kids.
"Whoever sticks around the longest doesn't have to patrol for the next three days." Bruce walked into the parlor where all the children were currently relaxing. No one knows how Bruce does the things that he does but Tim's working theory is that there are secret passages throughout the manor.
"Oh, you're on," Cass said appearing behind Bruce. She was on a new mission to make Bruce flinch. She hadn't been successful yet but she could feel herself getting close.
"Everyone please meet in the dining room. Y/N and her guest have arrived," Alfred said with a smile playing on his lips because he knew that shitstorm that was about to occur.
"I wonder who we're meeting now," Tim thought aloud.
"Probably another model or actor," Damian said holding Pennyworth the Cat. He was only excited to threaten someone else for dating his sister. It had been one of the few times deemed acceptable to threaten people outside of patrol.
"You think I'll be able to get an autograph?" Duke asked. Unfortunately, no one was able to answer because they saw who Y/N's guest was.
"Slade? How the hell did you get here?" Dick asked, noticing how Slade Wilson's arm was wrapped around his sister's waist.
"Y/N get away from him. Is he holding you captive?" Bruce asked. If there's one thing that Bruce was going to be, it would be a concerned father, especially when it came to Y/N.
"What? No, he's my boyfriend," Y/N exclaimed so her family wouldn't start pulling out the weapons that were hidden all over the manor.
"I always knew one of you would give me a heart attack, I always thought it would be Damian or Tim," Bruce
"We're dating," Y/N said happily while looking up at Slade. He placed a kiss on her lips and all of her siblings immediately gagged.
"You're dating my nemesis," Dick accused Y/N with a nagging finger.
"Yeah, he was like thirsting after me real bad so I made him promise not to do dumb stuff," Y/N explained while adjusting her long box braids that were in a ponytail.
"It's true. I haven't plotted against you or anyone close to you in almost one hundred and fifty days," Slade said it was like some kind of accomplishment. He was captivated by Y/N, there was something about her that made him do whatever she wanted without hesitation.
"Thank you, I think," Dick's confusion was written all over his face.
"You're welcome," Slade responded before pulling out a chair for Y/N to sit in.
"Bruce, you're not going to say anything?" Tim asked. Bruce was indeed a man of few words but this was odd even for him.
"I mean I could but then I'd be a hypocrite because I did some stuff with Talia last week and I'm trying to be better. Alfred, please get our finest bourbon, make that three bottles," Bruce may not trust Slade but he still wanted to eat the dinner that Alfred painstakingly prepared.
"Y/N, can I speak to you before we start dinner?" DIck asked in his best big brother voice.
"Sure," Y/N followed him to a nearby hallway.
"He tried to kill me," Dick whispered a little loudly.
"But he's hot," Y/N admitted without shame.
"He's old," Dick was willing to try anything to deter Y/N from dating Slade Wilson, Deathstroke. A mercenary who had tried to kill him multiple times.
"He's a silver fox," Y/N argued back.
"Why are you with him?" Dick asked looking for a genuine answer from his sister.
"I like him and he's kinda funny. Plus he's got a real big-" Y/N's eyes widened as her arms widened to show the size of what she was talking about.
"Eww. I don't need to know that," Dick said covering his ears.
"I was going to say, heart," Y/N tried to be convincing.
"No, you weren't," Dick deadpanned.
"Okay, probably not,"

Where the Bats Come to Hide
Part 4
Alfred Pennyworth has been many things in his life a spy, a killer, a butler he never did expect to be a father. He loved Thomas and Martha more than he could ever explain to their son and even as he watched the love he carried die in an alley he knew he had to pick up the little boy that he watched be born and continue no matter how much he wanted to lie down in the blood soaked alley and bask in the love they shared he kept going.
Master Bruce spent many a night crawling into his bed he left the blanket open and held the child as he sobbed angry at the world for the parents he was robbed of even when his boy was old and had children of his own on nights where he stitched up Bullets wounds and cleaned up tears he still would awake to his son sleeping peacefully under the blanket to hide from the world for a little longer.
Master Richard came angry and vengeful much like his son all those years ago. Vengeance seemed to come to the Wayne boys easier than sadness yet his blanket became drenched with the tears of a young acrobat more than once who would one day welcome flying and would share his gifts but for now was terrified of falling. He was so proud to see his first Grandson fly because he was ready to catch him, and when his grandson came to him about hands that harmed his and refused a no he brought out of tools he had put away and took care of it. Holding the same boy while he cried yet again but this time catching him.
Master Jason while he refuses to favor has always had a special place in his heart. Angry and afraid yet so good. The first night while he watched his newest grandchild afraid of what might come in the night showed him the weapons he keeps. Told him that if anyone in this house tries to harm him he may use it and if he can't he will. No harm will come to you from the men under this roof he will not allow it. He slept curled around Alfred that night and many others. He will never forget the pain and the joy he felt when his Jason came back so angry that he wasn't avenged. He went to his Grandchild offered his weapons offered his love and told him Master Jason I told you the first night no harm shall come and I failed you allow me to rectify that. The joker did not die with a smile he died terrified much like his grandson did. He can always expect his boy under his blanket when he can still hear the laughter of that horrible clown.
Master Timothy the boy who brought his child back who saved his son. He never did expect this Grandchild but he wouldn't change it for the world. Tim finds him when the nights are too long and the shadows to still. When his intelligence destroys the peace he craves. He gaurds the boy who so long ago wouldn't have come to him scared of rejection and pours what love he can into the boy who never got enough.
Master Damian he newest grandchild the only one who carries the blood of the Wayne's but one of the many who carries the heart. Another boy dripping in pain another one who finds comfort in the weapons that he carried drenched in the blood that he claimed. One who would find comfort in his blanket that he offers as best as he can. Teaching the pride and the love that he never though he could have because another had destroyed it.
All of his boys come when the lights have shut off and the only solace they can find is in the arms of the man who stitches wounds the same way he stitches clothes who's hands are covered in scars but offer the gentlest of touches who carries guns without thought. Yet knows their favorite food just as easy.

do you have any good tim fic recs? without him being massively woobified or fanonised
tim centric fics are not something i usually read (though that IS changing recently) BUT i do indeed have some recs that to me, personally, really encapsulate his character and i think about like all the time. a good tim drake fic can truly change the chemicals in your brain FOREVER.
woobified tim and i have personal beef with each other that will withstand all the generations to come, so i will not be touching him with a ten foot pole. do not fear.
TIM DRAKE CENTRIC FIC RECS ON AO3
Talk To Me by A_Canceled_Stamp
Bruce and Tim have a long-overdue heart-to-heart
MY NOTES: ohhh just the bruce and tim fic ever to exit. i reread this often when i just need a little comfort after things are rough, because it is so well written and i will never get over how sweet it is. happy tears in my eyes forever. bruce and tim is a dynamic that is so special.
lift this curse of bein' seventeen by arguablysomaya
When Tim first dreamed of becoming Robin, he’d been admiring Dick. When he became Red Robin, hurt and alone, he’d thought about the person Jason used to be. But after years of watching his older sister, Tim can’t help but reflect on how much he respects Cass and what she stands for.
As Batgirl, as Orphan, as Black Bat— as Cass, the woman that could face down pure evil and still sneak into Tim’s apartment to pull the laptop out of his hands and shove him into bed.
Or: In which Tim Drake gets a new name.
MY NOTES: oh my GOD. THE TIM DRAKE MOVES ON FROM ROBIN FIC EVER. i never once considered black bat tim but after reading this i genuinely have ascended to a new plain of tim drake understanding. not to mention wonderful tim and cass writing. i love their duo so much. (also!!! asian tim!!!)
by any other name would smell as sweet by misspickman
A dare and a couple of offhand comments set off a domino effect, sending Tim down one or two identity crises. Apparently everyone thinks it's time for him to do some self-reflection.
MY NOTES: i have said this so many times in these recs that it should be a given now to always expect a trans character fic as well. trans girl tim fic u are SO REAL. a friend recommended this to me and i read it all while standing up for a good half an hour unable to do anything else. changed my life forever. good lord
a soft place to land by unchosenone
Tim rubs the back of his head, trying to affect a joking tone. “I knew I should’ve just gone for the new escrima sticks.”
Dick is ready to be a good big brother to his grieving little bro. Tim flips the script.
MY NOTES: dick and tim are truly the brothers of all time i tear up just thinking about what they once had and everything they've lost. this fic is not about that though. this fic is about what a caring little brother tim is.

“That wasn’t—” he stared at his bike’s display through fuzzy eyes. “I mean, Bernard’s not my—”
“It’s okay, Tim,” Steph said gently.
The comm felt like a knife in his ear.
“I’m not,” Tim said.
He didn’t know if he was saying "I’m not gay" or "I’m not okay," was pretty sure nobody else did either, and the next thing Tim knew, his comm was a crushed pile of plastic and tech in his clenched fist.
MY NOTES: first and foremost, if you are a fan of timber you NEED to check out this author. the best timber fics out there. this fic is especially special to me and i love the way the comfort was handled. seeing tim traverse through different parts of the queer experience will always be important to me.

Heyyyy do you have any headcanons for bruce and tim? I always thought that tim would be closest to Bruce because while Bruce saved the others, Tim came to his rescue as a young kid, and I wanna see if you have any headcanons for them. Especially if they're tooth-rottingly fluffy
(Also I would die to see Bruce use ANY sort of sweet names for his kids)
(Also he absolutely calls Cass 'princess' and the boys get jelly because she's the only one with a royal nickname- King or Prince doesn't roll off the tongue as well as Princess does)
Ooo, I don't know if I'd necessarily classify their bond (or any relationship between Bruce and Batkids) as savior/victim. It kinda paints both of them in an unflattering light.
While yes, Tim arrived into Bruce's life during a period of extreme grief and mourning that left Bruce extremely vulnerable on the inside, I can't really call it by any other name than accidental support on both sides. I feel like that's more fair to both of them.
As far as headcanon go, -- I like to imagine every bond Bruce shares with his children is special and unique in their own way. You have Jason's obligatory bullying, Dick's teasing, Damian's mild hero worship, Cass' I Understand You
Honestly, I feel like Tim and Bruce's love language is the comfort of solitude. Tim isn't as touchy and clingy as the rest of his siblings (in my opinion) it's like.
He'd like to be. He's just not used to it. So he keeps his distance. And bruce? Understands and waits.
I definetly believe Tim is an overachiever at heart and places his self worth on figures of authority at the cost of his well being, which, Bruce doesn't want to contribute to. Not knowingly. He just knows it makes Tim happy when he says he's done a good job.
I feel like Bruce would recognize that Tim requires a dose of extra attention, so he does his best to be affectionate with him, both verbally and physically, but especially verbally. He definitely says " I love you" to Tim the most, I think

serious question, what makes you think Jason is Bruce’s favorite? Is this fanon or canon? I always assumed it was Dick or even Barb
I don't think Bruce intentionally plays favorites, but it's there at an unconscious level and much of it involves how Bruce met and approached each kid. This is still my headcanon but I've got some basis for it.
When Bruce met Dick, he was still young (early to mid 20s, old enough to legally adopt but young enough to not feel ready to be a parent) and the age gap between him and Dick wasn't that large (around 13-16 years, depending on which continuity). Going into it, both Bruce and Dick approached the relationship with the intention of Dick only being Bruce's ward, because Bruce wasn't looking to parent and Dick didn't want to replace John and Mary. The adoption issue didn't arise until Dick was no longer the only kid in the picture—that's when he felt contempt for the differential treatment.
Tumblr media
(side note: what the FUCK is this artwork)
By the time Jason came into the picture, Dick was already an adult and Bruce was older, more mature, and more mentally equipped to approach the situation from a parenting perspective rather than a mentoring one. Also, while he and Dick had a mutual mentorship agreement, he and Jason had the iconic tire-stealing beginning that highlighted Jason's need for a parent rather than a teacher.
Tumblr media
We have plenty of moments in the early days of Bruce knowing Jason really well—I daresay more than he knew Dick. Jason was also the first to be adopted. That's big, but I think the bigger thing that differentiates their relationship from the Bruce's relationship with the other batkids is that Jason's personality challenged Bruce in a healthy way—the way kids are supposed to challenge their parents.
Tumblr media
Looping back to Dick, the tension between him and Bruce thickens after Jason's death, which carries over all the way to Tim's early Robin days.
Tumblr media
As for Tim, he entered the picture at a really rough time and wedged his way into the Robin role, even though Bruce was adamantly against it. It was from a place of concern, but also Bruce was still extremely distraught after Jason's death. One of the few consistent pieces of lore is how Bruce changed—how he got more reckless and violent—after Jason's death.
Tumblr media
Even after things mellowed out with Tim, Bruce didn't adopt him until Captain Boomerang killed Tim's parents. Meaning again, the business partnership came first. Plus, Tim wanted to honor Jason's memory, so it's expected that he would've placed some distance from Bruce so he doesn't replace Jason as Bruce's son.
Steph already had a family when she donned the Spoiler mantle (obviously, she wanted to stop her dad). How dysfunctional her family was depends on the canon, but they exist. She's not Bruce's kid legally, and he knows she's fiercely independent and doesn't need to be parented. If anything, Babs was more of a mentor to Steph than Bruce.
Tumblr media
With both Damian and Cass, Bruce approached them with a certain distrust, given their similar violent upbringings. Even though they now hold a special place in Bruce's heart, unlike Jason they had to prove their place in the batfamily. Even as their relationships progress, Bruce was still wary of their abilities and the risk of them going off the rails (Damian more so than Cass). Bruce saw Damian as a son first, but because of the nature of their double-lives, there was too much of that and not enough of the Batman-Robin partnership—another indicator of his lack of faith in Damian.
Tumblr media
Although Duke was a foster, he's currently under his cousin's care and has made a point about not replacing his parents as far as I know, even if he does have a place at the Manor. Duke and Bruce's relationship is more businesslike, similar to Bruce and Dick. He's still part of the batfamily of course, but he's more on the same level as Steph.
Bruce continued to take kids in, but it's evident that Jason held a special place. And this could be a case of the dead child being the golden child, but he had a difficult time talking about Jason whilst also making a point to remember him (and to have the others remember him too).
Tumblr media
I think the second part to this shows how he fixated on Jason even though multiple characters were dead at the time.
Tumblr media
We all know Bruce and Jason have a million issues after Jason comes back and becomes Red Hood. I don't need to dive into that.
But this:
Tumblr media
(Jason's hair is sinful but I'll let it slide)
Bruce's relationship with the others also grew and we know he loves his whole family, but there's just something landmark about this moment. Bruce is a man of famously stubborn morals who frequently placed his abstract mission over his relationships, yet here we see him push all of that aside to welcome his son back into his life. Despite everything, Bruce never hated Jason. Not once. Not for a moment.

I loved NewWave and it's nominated for my top reads 2023, BUT THE JASON FICLET??? I thought it was going to be a light read but it hit me full force in the face because I didn't expect to identify so much with Jason! When I read your Jason it was like I was reading myself and I want you to know that I started reading it early at night and finished it at dawn because I constantly had to stop and cry because of how much my heart resonated with his! loved it
HI THANK YOU <3
I'm glad you identified with him! Jason is very much a character who's a little like me too. He's a born writer, and his way of using fiction to put the world in a framework that he can understand is very relatable. It leaves him a little out of touch with the reality of situations, but that's a feature and not a bug.
I can't relate as much to the racial undercurrent in the story, but I don't want to understate it. It has to suck for Jason to feel constantly compared to the blonde haired blue eyed 'perfect sidekick'. She provides something seen as valuable and ideal that Jason never could. Coming from Steph's viewpoint (and considering canon) the idea of her being unattainable perfection is deeply funny, but it's very real to Jason. Adding in Tim - who's identical to Bruce and comes from the same social strata - makes Jason feel like it's every man for himself.
That's what makes his connection with Bruce even more important, though. He's the polar opposite of Bruce in every way, but although Tim and Bruce are similar in a lot of ways, Jason and Bruce have a deep connection and understanding that Tim and Steph don't. They're both dreamers who make the world a stage, their need for justice comes from a place of great pain, and they love in quiet ways.
Jason's a special kid. Like Steph, he has so much value that he doesn't see. Unlike her, he wants more - he's hungry for it, that life with meaning and kindness. He's finally attained something good, and he's scared of losing it. He has so much to offer that he can't see, and the happiness of the story is when he's seen.
New Wave was my way of giving a character who's been routinely fucked over by canon and sidelined by fandom the spotlight. She's special and perfect and loved and recognized and important because...she's none of those things 'in real life'. I wanted to give that to her. Steph's a character I related to when I was her age, and I wanted to give that to myself too.
Jason came from a similar place. I do think canon & fanon are like...overly obsessed with him lmfao. There's a billion 'Jason joins the manor' stories and it's why I almost didn't write the story lol. But he's rarely given the chance to be a kid, one who exists in his own right - to join the Batfam out of his own choice, which is something bizarrely rare in fic. And kids like Jason are the forgotten ones, and it will always be Jason's dream to show the forgotten children that they're as much Robin as he is.
I'm glad it meant something to you ;-;. This story meant a lot to me too, which is why I can go onnnn about it lol. Thanks for reading and enjoying! <3

So, as I'm collecting my data for my own personal Batfam Canon, I noticed that each one of the boys has a parental figure that kinda picks them as their "favorite." Now, I absolutely do NOT wanna claim that the fam doesn't spread the love around, but any time things get really dire, that boy is most likely to turn to this figure to find someone who will really understand where they're coming from.
(Bear in Mind: This is all for my own, personal Canon. Nothing here is meant to portray how I think things "should" be, or even necessarily be an accurate portrayal of the comics canon.)
DICK GRAYSON: Dick's closest parental figure is Bruce himself. For as much as Bruce loves all of his children/protegee's, Bruce and Dick will always have a special, personal bond that cannot be broken. This makes Dick's time after their "falling out" especially painful for him: he needed the time away in order to establish himself both as a hero separate from Batman and as a man separate from Bruce, but the nasty way they left things made the one person Dick wanted to turn to not an option. After their reconciliation, Dick is the most likely of all the former Robins to be seen hanging out with Bruce in a purely social way.
JASON TODD: This one was an interesting discovery, but Jason's closest parental figure is actually Selina. This dynamic didn't really blowsom until the post-reconciliation Red Hood age, but the foundations of it can be seen in Jason's short stint as Robin, back when Selina was only slightly more hero than anti. Bruce picked up Jason only a few weeks after Dick had dramatically quit the team and skipped town, so the calm and collected rationale he'd used to choose Dick was simply not present. Jason could have been an excellent Robin, but not all children are the same. Bruce never wanted to admit it, but he wanted Jason to be a perfect replacement for Dick, and he just... wasn't. Even with the terrible family background Jason had, he was eager to please, and wanted desperately for Bruce to love him as he was, not in the shadow of his former sidekick, whom Jason wouldn't even meet until his Red Hood days. Selina Kyle immediately clocks that something's different with the new Boy Wonder, less from Jason's behavior, and more from Bruce's towards him. There are a few gentle moments mid-chase where she lets Jason know he shouldn't feel like he has to scrape the earn Batman's affection. She's learned it the hard way. He might come around in time, but if he doesn't, don't let it bother you. Be your own person. In the post-reconciliation Red Hood years, where Selina has entirely shed the anti from her hero and is starting to establish a more permanent relationship with Bruce, Selina and Jason bond far more quickly than Bruce and Jason do. They discover they're both from around Brideshead up in North Gotham and share their nostalgia, as well as their tendency for "rule-breaking" within the Batfam at large. Jason and Selina are the most likely to rib Bruce on how uptight he can be, and will occasionally go to Selina's old local hole-in-the-wall and have a few beers together.
TIM DRAKE: Tim's is another fun discovery, and a dynamic I really love thinking about, just for how odd it seems out of context and on the surface. To me, Alfred is Tim's closest parental figure. Yes, of course, Master Bruce is always number one in Alfred's heart, but Tim might secretly be Alfred's favorite grandchild. Tim was the one who was able to get Bruce back into crimefighting and begin to reunite the family when no one else could. This automatically placed Tim high on Alfred's appreciation stacking. From there, their pragmatism and Tim's occasionally 13 going on 60 attitude, creates an extremely fun dynamic, where Tim is often searching for Alfred before anyone else to run his latest conspiracy theory past. Alfred finds Tim's mind immensely amusing, and Tim thinks that Alfred is a well of information and experience that is an invaluable asset. Thursday Nights are Game Night for Tim and Alfred (the rest of the fam are invited as well, but it's not uncommon to find Alfred and Tim alone playing anything from chess to Trivial Pursuit.)
DAMIAN WAYNE: Of course, Damian's closest parental figure is fellow former Robin, Dick Grayson. Dick and Damian have an extremely rocky start, but Dick has an ineffable optimism that pairs well with Damian's obstinancy. No matter how despicably Damian behaves, or how lost he seems to become, Dick has faith in him, and this unending and unerring loyalty finally helps melt down Damian's solid steel defenses. Though Damian's behavior towards Dick might seem disdainful, Damian can often be found "accidentally" running into Dick while on patrol or at the manor. He usually just so happens to have a question about the current case he's on/a personal issue to vent about/an extra sandwich the delivery guy "accidentally" dropped off, so Dick might as well have it, and since they're both already there, they might as well sit and eat their individual sandwiches in close proximity to each other. Dick plays dumb to keep Damian from getting embarrassed.

Ghost Helpline chapter 40
Secrets before dinner 3
Jack peered closely at the green vials, “No way, you actually pulled off recreating a medical grade ecto degecto?!!”
“What like it’s hard?” This bitch.
Before the two could start another fight Ziyad placed their hand down on the little vamps shoulder. Ziyad took over the conversation quickly, “This is great Wilbur, I assume were being given the test batch?”
“Well I cant just go around poisoning my patients now can I?” the manic man laughed, “Though I suppose I can but that would be bad for business.”
Ziyad held back sighs, he admittedly hated working with Wilbur but this was for the greater good. Magical creatures (half breeds his mind unwontedly whispered to him) in the mortal world needed healthcare, and they surly weren’t getting it. Trust came hard to them. Understandably. And while king Phantom was doing his best he couldn’t be everywhere at once. And even if he could be there would always be a sour taste at accepting aide from royalty.
No instead people were more willing, happier even to seek out black market healing guilds like Wilburs. At least then you knew exactly what the catch is.
“Im sure your clientele appreciate it.” Ziyads smile stretched thin. He really hated working with Wilbur, “Speaking of your clientele, when can I schedule my sister to see you?”
Ecto degecto was still in its infancy of being considered a universal blood type for magic kind, but for the death touched it was a necessity. A necessity they weren’t even sure she needed or not. It would be best to check, and Wilburs guild was good at gathering info on his sisters illness. It probably helped that their family paid him so well. Ziyad thought as he bit the inside of his cheek raw.

Tims heart raced, his sister? His sister?!!! Tim could sill remember the first time he saw the Masters family. The were all gathered about laughing and smiling. They looked so happy.
She looked happy, wheelchair bound and attempting to run her siblings down.
He’d been jealous. Jealous and sad. And suddenly any thoughts of Vlad Masters being some up and coming big bad had disappeared from his mind and he sold his old empty house on the spot. As if the money could somehow be as warm as that laughter.
No no after that first meeting he never suspected Vlad Masters.
He should have suspected his son. Tim grimaced at his own sense of vindication. Guess there not such a happy family after all.
— —- ——
Jason was actually properly shocked at what he heard. …Was …..was this guy EXPERIMENTING on his sister!!! Green threaded to swallow him whole, how dare he! How dare he hurt someone like that! Hurt his family! Hurt a kid.
Holy shit the kid!
Was the kid his sister?? They needed to intervene now!
This sick fuck is going down.
—- —- —-
Jack wasn’t named after anyone in particular. Violet had renamed him far before she had met the Masters family. Far before they knew. /that/ story. Before any of the kids knew about any of the stories that came before them and by then the name Jack had stuck. But being called Red, even as a code name, felt special in its own way.
Violet and Red like a ridiculous beautiful color combination a pair idiots would make up. And they did. Violet, Konstelacio and Red, Jack. The first time around he had been named Jack because it was common, grounding, easy to play off as foreigner trying to fit in. It was practical. But Red? Red was like roses and hearts and blood and Violet. Like being renamed to compliment her entirely. It made him feel secure.
Now if only it also wasn’t also so common.
“It’s Red —-Red——!”
What ?
All Jack heard was his own name as he tripped over the side of a table clutching his stomach as a bullet wizzed by. Crying out as the bond between him and Violet chooses right then and there to flare up terribly.
“Red!”
“Kid! Oh my gods they shot Red!”
—- —- —-
Ziyad feels something off. Gotham was full of shades and shadows and spirts. He had grown use to the felling of being watched but this felt different. Different he scoured the warehouse turning his eyes up the window just as glass shatters to the ground, damn it, “Its Red Hood and Red Robin!! Get down!” He cant reach Jack before he falls yelping in pain clutching his side, he can hear Wilburs yell clearly too clearly, “Kid! Oh my gods! They shot Red!”
He’ll think about how horrible he is later. Later in bed he’ll think about what Reds blood hands and never seeing that kid in the kitchen at fucking midnight ever again. How he’d never get to hear him and — argue over mechanics and science ever again. Later he’ll think about how lucky they all are to not be mortal. Later, later Ziyad will tear himself apart over his piss poor decision making.
But in the moment all he can think about as he sees the kid get shot is, ‘shit, Violets never going to forgive me.’
He doesn’t think at all as Red Hood rounds closer to them, doesn’t pull back his punch because whoever this guy is he is most defiantly not mortal. Not anymore. And while Ziyad might not be a halfa, he is also defiantly not mortal. He doesn’t think and punched Red Hoods helmet hard enough to crack it.
—- —- —-
Jason is momentarily thrown at the shout of “Oh my gods! They shot Red!” Whipping his head around to look at Tim. Tim whose throat he cut, Tim who he hurt and ignored and mistreated. He looks for only a second and a second is all the man needs to get one over on him.
Gripping his head Jason dodges a kick rights himself back up. The kid is on the floor behind them, shes on the floor. Just like Tim. Jason hadn’t been aiming at her. He didn’t mean to.
Swing. The bastard doesn’t let up for a minute and it takes too long for him to realize the space growing between them and the kid until its to late. Beanie guy throwing various liquids at Red Robin as he yanks the pink teen up harshly and makes a dash for it. Whatever he threw at Tim is turning to smoke, odviscating his view of the man he’s fighting.
All he can see is green eyes. All Jason can hear is Tim choking on smoke. On his own blood. On the blood Jason put there.
Oh it is on!
—- —- ——
The vigilantes take stalk of their surroundings. The men had run off with the case of lazerous water but several crates remained, Marked with letters SBS. Tim walked over to the closest one, he had work to do.
He does his best to block out the sound of Jason behind him, he cant do this right now. He cant. Focus on the case. Focus on the case. This was way bigger than the initial drug ring he assumed it would be and he needed as much info as he could get.
“I need an explanation Tim! And I need one now.” He heard his brother growled out, lovely.
Ignoring his questions he pried the top of the box open. What the hell. What the actual hell? This wasn’t drugs or lazerous water this was so much worse.
“Jason shut up.”
“Fuck no you -“
“Jason shut up and look.”
The crate was insulated, cold. And filled with blood bags.

DP x DC AU: Extra Notes
More concept pieces that I didn't want to put in the main post:
[Concept] [Age Chart]
~~~~~
When Danny got to Gotham he chose to go by the last name Gale. When Jason decided he wasn't going back to Bruce, he started going by Jay Gale, and dyed his hair the same colour as the twins. I'm thinking the red hair of his earlier character design.
After taking the three newly resurrected back to his apartment, they spent the first night on his couch (the only comfortable furniture he had) and soaked up the calming ectoplasm Danny was emitting. When he was able to, Danny went out to steal two single mattresses; but continued to sleep on the couch. When Jason was coherent enough he felt guilty about it and insisted Danny take the bed. They argue for a bit before deciding to just share. One for them and one for the twins. This is a habit they don't bother breaking even when they get better apartments.
Danny chose Gotham because the amount of curses in such a relatively small area hid his presence in plain sight. And the Lazarus Pit under the city provided him with the exoplasm he needed to survive. But some of those curses are really nasty… and surely not all of those curses are necessary right? He can't just leave them there when he can do something about it right?? So Danny also becomes the local supernatural expert, making the city a better place one curse at a time.
Danny doesn't have much time to think about schooling for the first few years in Gotham, But when Jason  gets well enough and established enough to really contribute to their income, maybe he gets his GED and gives college a try.
I don't know what happened to Danny’s friends and family in this au, but maybe he does a psychology major as an honour to Jazz.  (Being the older sibling is hard! No wonder she was so high strung!) Danny as the Arkham Psychologist anyone? It's one of my favourite concepts!
Danny and Tim Frequent the same coffee shop. Tim hears the things the baristas say about this regular that's been coming in for a few years before him, and becomes immensely curious about the one guy in Gotham that orders more espresso shots than him. Whenever they are in the store at the same time, they get to talking.
The twins are only a year younger than Damian, and are a lot more carefree and adventurous. At first Damian takes this as a personal affront; what's so special about these immature brats?? But they grow on him and actually get him to loosen up and act his age sometimes. The three of them add Jon to make a quartet and cause nightmares for the faint of heart.
Although the twins do receive training, they never pick up the vigilante lifestyle. Reasons being 1) They have already died once and don't feel like inviting it, and 2) they have seen how worried Danny can get about Jason and how Worked up Jason can get about Danny, and they don't want to worry either of their big brothers. Although I do like the idea of them apprenticing under Dr Leslie in the future.
In place of getting training from the League of Ass (sorry,  Assassins), Danny teaches Jay the sword fighting he learned from Pandora, the hand to hand from Frostbite, the weapons training from his parents, and everything he can think of from his own years of desperate fighting. This changes Jason's fighting style just enough that no one that knew him before would recognize it. (Remember that the LoA trained Bruce too)
Danny could have sold Ice Sculptures for a few years, and it was a good source of money; but once certain villains start taking interest and its unmelting nature starts piquing curiosity, he stops. This, however, introduces scarcity, and his few sculptures become some of the most valuable things in the city. When he eventually starts making them again, he's not expecting the ferver, to hilarious effect.
Danny doesn't kill the Joker. He doesn't even hurt the Joker. That's not his place and not his thing. But there is no way in hell he wants that man to be roaming the streets while he has little brothers to protect. So he takes measures to prevent the Joker, specifically, from escaping Arkham. Very successfully. The Joker goes even more insane seeing others escape when he Can't. But he never manages to hurt anyone. Danny makes sure of it.
Because Danny is now watching over the Batfamily, he prevents Damian's death entirely. And If/ When Dick goes undercover at spyral, Danny makes sure he can keep in touch with the family.
I also believe that the reason Bruce doesn't notice that Jason's grave becomes empty in cannon, is because the League of Assassins goes back to fill it in. Danny doesn't  even think about doing that. So Bruce knows that someone Robbed his son's Grave. Crime drops a bit while Bruce is on that warpath. But of course he doesn't find anything, all of the footage is blurry or nonexistent. I think it would be funny if he thought the LoA was responsible for it, even though he's in the exact wrong dimension to be correct.
hello! i hope you're doing well ^^ can you share any thoughts you have on JayTim? i ship tim with everyone but JayTim has a special place in my heart. it was one of my first robin ships!
hi! thank you, i'm doing well!! i think that out of all batcest ships with tim jaytim is by far the most popular by sheer numbers alone i think i put it in a spreadsheet once and jaytim was something like twice as popular as all other tim batcest ships combined AND its more popular than kontim a longtime favorite that many comic fans push to be canon. this popularity is just going off the amount of fanfics on ao3 about them and i think there's a very good reason for it. and its that jason and tim, individually are VERY interesting characters they catch a lot of shit both for good and bad reasons but fundamentally the two of them share an undoubtedly similar kind of isolation and loneliness than the rest of the family. jaytim is also pretty well fed compared to other tim ships! like what jason carved on tim's headstone when he buried the rest of the family?
it was certainly much kinder than the others and also seemed to carry a tone of...regret. whether it was a regret for never having known tim better, treated him better, or just general sadness of this good kid who died. jason has changed a lot from when he was robin- from what bruce and dick and alfred and everyone knew him as. he's red hood now, he's a different jason todd now and i think he knows that there's a sort of resistance from people to acknowledge that or that they see him and their first thought is about this horrible thing that happened to him. tim, however, was never part of the community or the family before jason died so his only idea and opinion of him is after he has reformed to the new jason todd.
jason and tim's relationship is definitely a very unique one because for the longest time their opinion of the other is informed through other people. bruce and dick filter their memories of jason through a sieve to catch all the 'bad stuff', jason is both manipulated and in a bad state of mind to form an opnion of tim. the two of them have a very good set up for enemies to lover due to their contentious history.
jason has tried to kill tim (so has damian) but tim did give back as good as he got and was always more irritated and annoyed with jason rather than afraid of him.
the two of them are drawn together for so many reasons and all the instances in comics where they're working together or even around each other- the two of them get along SO well!!!!! they have SUCH good chemistry together!!!!!!!!!
but because of their complex dynamics their relationship can be viewed in so many lights! toxic and dark, wholesome and domestic, mutual attraction, one-sided attraction, soulmates who need to overcome rough beginnings. one thing i love in a lot of jaytim fics is that once the two of them overcome this (very small) barrier of mutual dislike the two of them get along very well very quickly and i don't think it's a dynamic that's too fast or out of character for them. genuinely the two of them have the most interesting and fascinating interactions both casual and not!!! i don't know how to describe or phrase it other than the two of them are SO good together, they look good, intereact good, they help each other be better people and make peace with the things about themselves they don't like - they're just...so right❤️❤️❤️
I don’t know if it’s been asked before but why do you like Batman? What’s so special about him?
It's been talked about a bit by me just rambling, but never really explained in depth, and even then, I never mind repeating myself <3
So, a not insignificant part of it is that one of the first TV shows I ever remember watching, other than Redwall and Dragon Tales was the DCAU Justice League show, and I immediately fell in love with their version of Batman, especially how he was performed by the late, great Kevin Conroy. So I just started seeking out that version of Batman through the DCAU shows when I was really young, like, seven years old, and it just kinda imprinted itself on me, the way media often can when you're a young child. And I do maintain that, despite some flaws (like the Jason Todd-ification of Tim Drake for no reason, and the obsession with making Bruce and Barbara a couple, which just.....hurl) the DCAU characterization of Batman as a person and as a hero is is the gold standard. But I did start reading comics once I ran my way through all the shows, and that core love still remains.
Part of it is, again, he's Amélie's very first blorbo ever since the mid-2000s, but Bruce as a character is genuinely compelling. Bruce goes through an unimaginable trauma at a very young age, and rather than how most people would react, he chose to do something with it. Seriously, if you think about something like the death of Batman's parents happening in the real world and you just read about it on the news, that's horrific, and it makes sense that it's not only fucked Bruce up, but could have potentially resulted in him turning into a mess. And he is a mess, don't get me wrong, but he also chose to be more than that. He chose to create Batman, to try and help a city that was drowning and make it better. There's an element of choice to Batman's character and his arcs that I've always liked. He doesn't need to do anything that he's done. There's no outside force compelling him to try and create a better version of his city where no one has to experience the hurt that he went through. There's no external pressure demanding that he protect the world even in the face of odds that he cannot win just to keep innocent people safe. There's no ulterior motivator making him take in children who have nothing, children who need a home and a family and loving care, other than the fact that he wants to do right by them and he has an infinite capacity for love in his heart. Bruce has no responsibility to Gotham, the people of Gotham, to other heroes, to the world, to random kids he meets on an off chance. No one asked him to do anything he does, and he's under no obligation to do it or continue. Bruce could stop being Batman tomorrow and dismantle the entire operation and turn his entire family into civilians, and nobody would be able to say he can't do that because he had no duty to start it in the first place. But he did. He chose to do good, to turn his pain into a drive to try and make life better for people in his city, to take a drive that could become a very selfish motivator (for instance, devoting resources solely to finding Joe Chill) and using it for something purely selfless (putting his own self on the line, in all possible ways, just to make sure people can lead better lives and that no one ever experiences the pain that he has).
There is a fundamental goodness to Bruce Wayne's character that is incredibly compelling. Because it would be so easy for there not to be. And he's had a fair amount of writers who've forgotten that it's there (people who write abusive Bruce Wayne are never seeing heaven), but if he's got someone who understands the character, then yeah, he's good. He's selfless and he's kind and he's got a capacity for love and care that is astounding. He opens his heart to children he has no connection to purely just to give them a good home, he refuses to harden himself against letting people in even with the amount of times he's been hurt, he never stops trying to help people who are hurt or sick get better (as clearly seen in his neverending quest to try and help Harvey Dent be rehabilitated). He's a good person who chooses to keep that goodness and not let it slip away from him, no matter what, even when he would be well within his rights to. He never lets himself. I mean, God, Bruce Wayne is someone who will personally resuscitate a man he hates more than anything, a man who murdered his child, just so that his other son won't become a killer and have to live with that guilt (that's real fyi, Dick Grayson once beat the Joker to death after the Joker had taunted him with details of his murder of Jason Todd's, and Batman, along with possibly Robin, managed to revive him so that Dick wouldn't be guilty of murder). Bruce Wayne is someone who could have been fundamentally broken by the things that happened to him, if not the murder of his parents then certainly the murder of his child (and we know it did alter a lot of his personality, which makes sense, cuz his kid died), and no one would have really blamed him. He could have become cold and cruel and a killer, and he knows he has that capacity within him, but he actively chooses not to.
And he doesn't always do the right thing; trust me, if you're a fan of Jason Todd, you're well aware of the fact that Bruce doesn't always do the right thing. He falls short. Batman is only human, and he makes mistakes. He makes wrong and bad choices, he fucks up and needs to try and fix it, he fails to meet his own standards (I don't know how many times I need to say it, but for all intents and purposes, Batman has absolutely broken his no kill rule, going into his confrontation with the Joker in Batman #429 with the express intent to kill, refusing to save him when he can, and never expressing a moment of doubt or remorse when he's believed to be dead, is basically Batman breaking his no kill rule, the only reason it doesn't technically count is because the Joker is revealed to have survived, but he had intent and he never had any remorse or second guessing, it counts as breaking the rule). Bruce has fucked up, with rogues and cases, and with friends and family too, and he's had to live with those mistakes and, if he's got a good writer at least, try to rebuild from there and earn whatever redemption he needs to depending on how big the screwup (and how much the writer either thinks Bruce is an untouchable god/hates whoever he hurt, no I'm not bitter about Certain Storylines, why would I be bitter?).
Bruce Wayne is incredibly human, painfully human. He lives in this world of gods and monsters and there he is, a man with a plan. And it is enjoyable, from a character perspective, that this man who is nothing but human, entirely ordinary, is able to fight and talk and think circles around people who'd routinely be considered superior, who has this place as one of the most god-tier people in his universe entirely because he's earned it, because he's lived up to his potential and his reputation. But there's also something beautiful in that. Like yeah, Bruce is stupid levels of rich, but beyond that, there's really nothing outwardly special about him. He's just a man. But he becomes larger than life through his actions, the choices he makes, the fact that he be brought low as he could be, low as he'd have the right to be, by his circumstances. His goodness remains intrinsic to him, and he refuses to give it up, because it's the core aspect of his humanity, a humanity that he refuses to relinquish in the face of greater and mightier odds and unspeakable evils, and it speaks to an immense fortitude as well as just how good he is.
(and I know there are a lot of generally bad faith criticisms made about the concept of Batman, and what Bruce chooses to do but a) no he does not go around beating up pickpockets and the mentally ill, he either stops crime non-lethally and informs the cops or is specifically asked to intervene in something by the authorities, not to mention that the "mentally ill" people that are his rogues are also basically domestic terrorists who are often full murderers, sorry that my heart does not bleed for the fact that the Joker has some kind of disorder while Batman punches him in the nose, and b) the fact that the system Gotham has in place is made explicitly clear on numerous occasions to not be remotely adequate to deal with what they have to deal with, that a lot of the cops and politicians and people meant to protect citizens are either completely inept and terrible at their jobs or just straight up corrupt and actively making the situation worse, and I do find it amusing that a lot of the criticisms of Batman come from left wing Twitter activists who crow about the incoming revolution but then go catatonic at the idea that a fictional character has decided the system is too corrupt to work with and thus forcibly changes it from the outside, isn't that what y'all's fucking incoming commie revolution is meant to do? Just sayin. Also no, he's not a fascist, tf, words mean things.)
And from a character perspective, from my enjoyment of him as a part of a fiction and an overall puzzle piece in a greater story (cuz I always do try to separate liking a character as a person vs liking them as a character), I'm not immune to the fact that Bruce's complexities come from a good number of tragedies. He's not real, and it does add to interest in him as a narrative device that he deals with a lot and needs to react to it and overcome it (and he deals with a lot, I wrote a list and it's not even comprehensive I definitely left out a lot just out of pure forgetfulness). Watching Bruce as a character, already with all the traits I enjoy listed out above, deal with the things he has to deal with makes him not just a character to enjoy as person, but a character to enjoy as a character, as part of a larger story, as a significant part of what makes that story rich and compelling and routinely interesting even when it's been going on for close to a century. Plus, again, from a character perspective, he's got fascinating interpersonal relationships that are captivating as well and add to his own complexities, relationships not just in terms of romance, but with friends and allies and enemies and especially with family (I think it's kinda impossible to be a Batman fan and not have an insane number of thoughts about the relationship he has with at least ONE of his kids).
There's a lot that's been written about Batman that I don't like, I am not a fan of DC's insistence that Bruce is a shitty dad who routinely beats his children, and it does feel a lot of the time these days like Bruce is a character that I like more for his potential than the way he tends to be written. But I still love that potential, and the kind of character he can be in the hands of a competent writer (and given what a decentralized medium comics are when it comes to canons and characterizations, you have to allow for that kind of leeway in a way you can't with other forms of storytelling) is one that can be truly great. As a character, he's kind of everything you can want, flawed and imperfect and deeply human, but always trying, and with not just a rich interior but complex relationship dynamics that have helped shape who he is.
Ultimately, I think why I like Bruce is best summed up by something Amanda Waller said in the Justice League Unlimited episode Epilogue: I've never met anyone who cared as deeply about his fellow man as Bruce Wayne. And I love him for that.
