It was early Sunday evening when Katsuki pulled up to his parents’ home - the home he’d grown up in. He hadn’t talked very much about his parents and when he did, the things he told you were about what you’d expect from a “normal” family. You were a little nervous, but the same couldn’t be said for your boyfriend.
He’d never taken a girl home to meet his parents before. His dad, he wasn’t worried about. It was his mom and her…intense personality that troubled him. She would embarrass him, that was a given. But just how far she would go made him beyond nervous. Agitated, actually. He even yelled at another driver in traffic on the way there. When you squeezed his hand he growled and rolled up the driver side window. “Sorry,” he grumbled, glancing over at you.
He’d considered turning down the invitation without even telling you about it, but he knew he’d never hear the end of it. And besides, he really was serious about you and knew saying no would just delay the inevitable. Might as well just do it and get it over with.
Katsuki had just closed the door behind you when you heard a loud “Katsuki!! S’that you?!”
“Yeah, Ma!” he yelled back.
The shuffle of slippered footsteps closed in fast and when you looked up from taking your shoes off, a small female version of Katsuki was beaming at you. She’s his mom?, you thought. She looks young enough to be his older sister. She was gorgeous.
“You must be (y/n)!” she said, clapping her hands together.
“Of course she is, old lady! Who the fuck else would she be?”
You bristled a bit at your boyfriend’s snide remark to his mom, but before you could so much as make eye contact with him you found yourself in the tight embrace of a mama bear. Any doubts you may have had about the authenticity of her perfect boobs were swiftly eradicated when they squished against you.
“It is so nice to finally meet you! Katsuki just went on and on about you the other day!”
Oh great, here we fuckin go, he thought.
She pulled away from you to get a better look at you, her hands still holding onto your upper arms as you exchanged pleasantries. Her long, thick eyelashes prompted you to make a mental note to talk Katsuki into letting you put makeup on him sometime.
“You are so pretty!” she beamed.
“Thank you,” you said, standing in reciprocal awe of Mitsuki Bakugou’s breathtaking beauty. “So are you!”
Her sparkling carmine eyes went as big as Katsuki’s head, her open grin splitting from ear to ear. She glanced over at her son then back at you. “Katsuki Bakugou, you better marry her!”
“Jesus, Ma! Shut up!” he gritted through clenched teeth. His heart, however, clenched at the way you and his mother took to each other like ducks to water, but even more so at the prospect of being your husband someday. It was something that had already crossed his mind a couple of times.
You heard the clearing of a throat and everyone turned to see Katsuki’s father standing there with a warm smile on his face. “Hi, (y/n), I’m Katsuki’s dad, but you can call me Masaru.” He gave you a shallow bow, which you returned with a deeper one.
“So nice to meet you, Mr. Bakugou.”
He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck. “No, really! Please call me Masaru.”
His wife agreed. “And call me Mitsuki!” She took you by the hand. “Come on in, I’ll give you a quick tour.”
“Dinner smells delicious!” you said, sniffing the air.
“Oh, Masaru does most of the cooking. Lucky for you, Katsuki inherited his father’s culinary skills.”
Father and son watched - the former smiling, the latter cringing - as you and Mitsuki disappeared around the corner, laughing.
Masaru noticed Katsuki’s stiff posture and gave him a reassuring pat on the back. “Relax, Katsuki.”
As they strolled into the living room together, Mitsuki’s voice rang out from the other end of the house. “And this is Katsuki’s old bedroom! We left his All Might posters up for when he comes home to visit!”
Masaru hazarded a look at his son and saw about what he expected: Katsuki’s beet red face twisted in something between rage and psychological pain.
“C’mon, son,” he sighed, clapping Katsuki's tense shoulder. “I’ll make us both drinks.”
At one point during dinner, Mitsuki made a strange comment. “Katsuki couldn’t keep either of the other girls he’s dated around long enough for me to meet them!”
Your boyfriend growled at his mother. “Shut the fuck up, Ma! I swear your mouth is bigger than your brain sometimes!”
It was a bit uncomfortable but when Mitsuki waved his outburst away you relaxed again.
“It’s just as well since it means I get to be with him now,” you said, reaching over and playing with the hair at the nape of his neck.
Katsuki’s ears turned bright red. His parents had never seen him having an affectionate or intimate moment with anyone. A little bit of embarrassment and a whole lot of pride swelled in his chest knowing his mother was finally witnessing your love for him.
The best part was he hadn’t even told you about the harsh, disparaging things she had said to him over the years. She’d always told him that no woman in her right mind would want to be with him or put up with his shit.
But now here you were - someone she clearly adored - fawning over him, praising him, and saying how lucky you are to be with him. You didn’t even know you were proving her wrong, vindicating him in front of her very eyes.
Suck it, you old hag. You see that? You hearing this? (Y/n) loves me AND she’s fucking amazing, he thought with a sly grin on his face.
As far as you were concerned, dinner was lovely, as was your visit. Both his parents were incredibly sweet and made the fact that they approved of you more than apparent. Katsuki knew they would - you’re a beautiful human inside and out. Only a shitty idiot would think anything less of you.
But what did you think of them? He was anxious to find out. By all outward appearances you seemed to like them. But he knew how adept you were at social graces. What were your true impressions? He hoped to be with you for as long as you’d have him. He wanted you to love all the things that made him who he is, which, for better or worse, included his dysfunctional family.
As you and Katsuki walked out to his car, forced leftovers in hand, you smiled remembering Mitsuki’s words: “Katsuki Bakugou, you better marry her!”

Masaru: So why do you want to marry our only son?
Izuku: Because I’m head over heels for Kacchan and also because I think I’m the only one who would be crazy enough to be willing to marry him
Mitsuki and Katsuki: That’s a pretty damn good answer

Unpopular Opinion Time
I guess, this is an unpopular opinion given how much hate I’ve seen about this -- but I, genuinely, HATE the hatred the BNHA fandom has for Mitsuki Bakugou. And I’m not someone who likes saying the word ‘hate’ because it’s a strong word and I prefer to say ‘dislike’ instead.
And before I get anons coming into my ask box being like: “oh, you condone child abuse” or “are you condoning (physical / mental / emotional) abuse?” or some other bullshit in that vain.
The answer is: “No, no, I don’t.” And don’t try and put words into my mouth that I never said because that will be the quickest way for you to get blocked, or for me to turn off anon.
But I’m just sick and tired of seeing Mitsuki (and to an extent Masaru) being compared to being like Enji and / or Rei Todoroki. When yes, all of them weren’t great in how they handled parenting their children. (And I’m not even going to go into the can of worms that is the Todoroki Drama because that’s a whole other conversation. And if people want to hear my thoughts about that let me know.)
(there is also going to be some mention of manga events; so proceed with caution)
Anyway, back to the Bakugou Family, what I feel most people don’t / can’t seem to grasp is that MOST of the ‘abuse’ is just played up to be for ‘comedic effect’. (It’s like when Katsuki chucked his explosion head piece at Izuku and it stuck in his head. It was a moment done for COMEDY PURPOSES.. it wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.) And think about it -- in EVERY situation -- where we’ve seen Mitsuki ‘smacking’ Katsuki upside the head; it is when a ‘more serious topic’ is happening. So we don’t ever really get to see what a ‘normal day-to-day’ relationship is between Mitsuki and Katsuki. Or just a normal day in the life of the Bakugou Family in general.
But also people constantly act like Katsuki is a submissive child and that he just lets Mitsuki yell at him -- when that’s not even the case.
Katsuki is NOT afraid to TALK BACK to his mom. Hell, he calls her “Old Hag” TO HER FACE because he’s not someone who will just SIT BACK AND LET SOMEONE INSULT HIM regardless WHO that person is.
And I even did some math work to figure out how old Mitsuki and Masaru would’ve been when they had Katsuki -- and both of them would’ve been in the early to mid-twenties. Mitsuki would’ve been about 22 and Masaru would be about 26. Meaning that, at least, Mitsuki would have been a YOUNG ADULT when she had her FIRST and ONLY CHILD. And that’s not even counting when Katsuki’s Quirk manifested -- which would have been when he’s FOUR YEARS OLD. Which bumps their ages up four years to determine how they were when that happened; Mitsuki being 26 and Masaru being 30.
So them being new parents to a child that happened to get a Quirk that was a PERFECT BLEND of both his parent’s Quirks put together? I mean, having a child that can cause literal explosions from the palms of his hands at will. Not to mention, Katsuki was an adventurous boy -- who would also get into fights with kids older than him. That sounds like it would be a nightmare for ANY parent(s) to do deal with -- much less FIRST TIME PARENTS!!
Especially since neither Mitsuki or Masaru were heroes in the first place. Prior to having Katsuki they were both in the FASHION INDUSTRY -- or, at least, Masaru was -- but given that we do know Mitsuki met him through work and was instantly in love. It’s safe to assume that she was also in the Fashion Industry as well.
But some signs IN THE CANON that show that Mitsuki actually genuinely cares about her son -- during the start of the Paranormal Liberation War; in a moment that has her, Inko, Rei, Natsuo, and Fuyumi all doing their normal day-to-day things; Mitsuki is drinking coffee or tea and looking at photo album that is labelled “Katsuki Memory”. While she has a peaceful smile on her face as she’s most likely thinking about her son. And more recently, Mitsuki is the one who comments about Katsuki ‘not being a fan of the rain’ while looking outside (and hearing the news) with a concerned, motherly expression.
If she in ANY WAY was actually abusive toward him, she wouldn’t have paid attention at all to know that he “didn’t like” the rain. Because abusers don’t tend to care about internalizing that shit. And if they do -- it is to use it to their benefit and not because they care about the person they are abusing.
And I’m definitely not leaving Masaru out of this because he could’ve done a bit more to calm things down in their household. But it also wasn’t easy for him given that Mitsuki and Katsuki share A LOT of personality traits -- and so if one of them triggers the other in anyway (whether that’s yelling, or name calling), the other person will blow up on the instigator. So getting a word out in that situation is definitely not an easy thing to do for someone who is more calm and level-headed like him.
Like I’ve said this to a few people now but I see my relationship with my mom (when I was a teenager) in how Katsuki and Mitsuki act toward each other. And that’s because; like Katsuki and Mitsuki, my mom and I have similar personality traits, and so we would often times butt heads with each other. The only difference is that I had a dad who would yell at me if I was getting out of line (which didn’t happen often) -- unlike Masaru with Katsuki.
But the main point I’m trying to make here is that -- yes, Mitsuki didn’t handle raising Katsuki in an “appropriate” manner, but I’m sick and tired of seeing so much hate for her. Or seeing people compare what she did to Katsuki to that of what Enji did to the Todoroki Family.

Neither she nor Masaru had any particular preference about gender. Mitsuki hadn't cared for claims that the shape of her stomach or the roundness of her face, or even the fucking foods she ate, meant that she might as well have preemptively painted the room in glittery pink paint or whatever. When your kid could be born with bayonet for a head, you had bigger issues to worry about than whatever was between their legs.
Or, on a hot spring day, Mitsuki thinks about what on earth she's going to name their baby. At least, she tries to, but said baby is not helping.

It was mid-morning the next day when you and Katsuki were outside, helping his parents out by doing some yard work. You tended to the flowerbeds while your boyfriend got ready to mow.
Mitsuki walked out of the house, on her way to meet with a client. They’d chosen her to be their fashion designer for an upcoming event and needed to decide on the fabrics and material.
She flashed her gorgeous smile at you. “Hi, honey. Don’t work too hard. I’ll be home later.”
You smiled and nodded. “You don’t work too hard either, Mitsuki.”
Her smile faded, her eyes settling on Katsuki just as he began to mow. “KATSUKI!!!”
You were impressed at her ability to be louder than a lawn mower when her son looked up. She waved him over, understandably not wanting to step out into the lawn in her Louis Vuittons.
He rode the mower over to where the two of you were standing, leaving a comically long strip of mowed grass in his wake.
You admired his sexy shoulders and arms as they shimmered in a sheen of sweat. He caught you staring and smirked at you before jumping off the mower.
“You’ve got the blade deck set too high,” Mitsuki said.
“Tch, no I don’t. Dad’s been cutting it too short, tryin to keep from havin to mow as often.”
Your boyfriend and his mom began to bicker as they so often do.
“I’ll cut your damn grass for ya, but don’t tell me how to fuckin do it! I know how to do this shit!” Katsuki barked.
“Apparently you don’t, Katsuki! You don’t even have the blade set at the right height!”
“That’s a matter of opinion! Besides, beggars can’t be choos-“
Before he could get the last word in, Mitsuki’s hand went up, then came down hard on the side of Katsuki’s head.
Standing only a few feet away, you jumped back, startled and speechless.
“Goddamnit, Ma! How many times’ve I told ya not to put your fuckin hands on me!”
“Just lower the fucking blades, Katsuki! And stop acting like a little shit! You’re embarrassing (y/n)! Just look at her!” She gestured at you, but didn’t see you flinch since she was facing her son. “You better start acting less like a bitch and more like a man or she’s gonna leave your ass just like the others!”
She turned and stormed off towards her car, but not before turning to you. “I don’t know how you put up with him, sweetheart.”
You didn’t respond, just watched until she’d gone inside her car and pulled out of the driveway.
Your eyes found your boyfriend, who spoke before you could say anything. “You okay, babe? I saw you flinch.”
“I’m fine, Katsu,” you said as you closed the gap between you to examine the blooming red welt on his temple. “Are you alright? Jesus, baby, there’s already a mark on your face.”
“Tch!” He waved your hand away, posturing. “Of course, I’m alright! I take way harder hits than that at work every fuckin day!”
“I know you’re tough as nails, baby, that’s not what worries me. It’s the fucking principle, Katsuki. She’s your fucking mom. I can see the hurt in your eyes.”
He glanced up at you before quickly looking down at his feet again, shoving his hands in the pockets of his old, ripped blue jeans. His blond spikes cast a shadow over his eyes as he quietly spoke, his mouth barely moving. “Do I embarrass you, (y/n)?”
Your lips pressed into a tight line as you wrapped your loving arms around him.
“Katsuki, look at me.” His carmine eyes shimmered as they met yours. “You do not embarrass me. I’m proud to be your girl,” you assured him, pressing your hands to his chest.
“Am I man enough for ya?”
You smiled up at him. “Katsubaby, you’re all the man I’ll ever want or need and still have plenty left over.” You pulled him down to you as you stood on your tiptoes, pushing his hair back from his forehead before placing a soft kiss there.
He tried and failed to stifle a small smile. “Alright, alright. I get it, dork. Stop making it weird.” He hated blushing in front of you. “S’fuckin embarrassin” he’d always say.
Looking up at him, you placed your tender hand on the side of his neck, the pad of your thumb stroking his slightly stubbly chin.
“I love you, Katsuki Bakugou. Your mom does not speak for me and she sure as hell doesn’t get a say in how I feel about you. I’m not going anywhere, okay? I’m not them.”
He nodded and pulled you flush against him, sun-kissed biceps flexing around your shoulders, squeezing you tight as he whispered against your hair, “I love you, babe. So fuckin much.”
