Writing Pattern Tag Game
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 posted fics and see if there's a pattern. (Got tagged by my dear friend @29daffodils, thank you, this looks interesting! If you're interested in any of those fics, please click the title and it will guide you to the fic on AO3.) More Beautiful than the Moon [ How would you like to continue your romance storyline? A. Stay with Luo Binghe. B. Try to seduce Liu Qingge. This might or might not be reversible, so choose wisely…/ ] ship/fandom: Liu Qingge/Shen Yuan|Shen Qingqiu, The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (I'm already cheating in the first one but I think the first sentence only isn't enough to convey anything so please excuse XD)
------------------------------------ Safe With You Cold. Wet. Dark. The boy's eyes can't see through the blurriness, his ears can hear only muffled noises of struggling. ship/fandom: WinTeam, Between Us|Hemp Rope, canon-divergent (Technically three sentences, I know but words alone don't make much sense right?) -----------------------------------
Convince me Otherwise It's the first day at uni for Team and things are supposed to go well, but in fact, Team's morning has already been quite eventful. ship/fandom: WinTeam, Between Us|Hemp Rope, musician AU -----------------------------------
Come Home With Me It's one of those days, Win spends working from home. ship/fandom: WinTeam, Between U|Hemp Rope, post-canon -----------------------------------
With You through the Seasons It happens in early spring, in the middle of the day, in the middle of the road, in the middle of town without any prior warning – Xie Lian's car dies. ship/fandom: HuaLian, Heaven Official's Blessing, Modern AU ----------------------------------- We'll still be Us It was one of those nights when Megumi was lying wide awake, staring up at the ceiling of his bedroom into the endless, merciless darkness. ship/fandom: GoFushi, Jujutsu Kaisen, Yakuza AU (OK those last four definitely followed a pattern and I don't really know what to think about that XD) -----------------------------------
Dragonfly “Hey, Akihiko,” Haruki starts when he can't stand the atmosphere anymore. ship/fandom: AkiHaru, Given ----------------------------------- My Boyfriend might suck at Games but he holds the High Score in my Heart Exam season sucks. ship/fandom: RitsuMafu, Given -----------------------------------
Waking up with You "Rise and shine, Sunshine, it's a beautiful day and we have plans today," Nao's whisper tickles Natsuya's ear as he bends down to wake his lover. ship/fandom: NatsuNao, Free! -----------------------------------
With You by my Side Once a year, sometime in April, without any fail, the former swim team of Iwatobi High makes an effort to meet up in their home town to catch up with each other and wallow in the nostalgia of their beginnings. ship/fandom: MakoHaru, ReiGisa, AsaKisu, HiyoIku, NatsuNao, SouRin, SeijuuGou, MomoAi, Free! ----------------------------------- So, do I see a pattern? A few of them start similarly, like the four that I pointed out. Then there are two starting with direct speech and a few starting with very short or only one-word sentences. Honestly, I don't really think too much about how to start a story because that's usually the easiest thing for me to do - to write the beginning. I just go with whatever pops up in my head when I start writing. I hope it's interesting enough to keep people reading but that's not for me to judge, so you tell me! :) Another thought that just crossed my mind is, why do most of my titles sound so lame? ;_; (It's truly one of the most difficult things when writing, if I don't know the title from the beginning, it's a struggle until the very end when I put the fic on AO3) Tagging some of my writer friends (no pressure to do this but I'd love to see it!) @tehalex3-blog, @radiodread, @berrynthewood and... I think my other writer friends aren't on here or I forgot their handles, sorry. Whoever comes across this and wants to play along, please feel free to do so!

The seiyuu officially recognize it, ergo we should as well.
Nojima Kenji (Natsuya's seiyuu): "Natsuya has surpassed 'brother' and become 'dad'."
Hino Satoshi (Nao's seiyuu): "Nao has surpassed 'mother' and become 'grandma'."
Nojima Kenji: "Damn, we make a great married couple, don't we?"

Heyaa can you do lee nao and ler natsuya from free! iwatobi swim club?
Oops I ship it now-
Okay but really: I fell down a rabbit hole of these two after starting season 3 and now my heart is SOARING. They are precious and have my entire heart and soul! I've gotcha covered, anon! :D
Cloud 9 (Taglist)
@myreygn, @duckymcdoorknob, @baby-tickles2022, @cupcake-spice13
“Baaabe~ I miss you!”
“Are you drunk?” Nao rolled his eyes as he walked up the steps to his apartment, the day’s events leaving him drained. “You sound drunk.”
“Not drunk- unless you count jet lag. In that case, I’m very, very drunk.” Between words, Natsuya yawned, further cementing his claim.
“Well, try to get some sleep when you can.” Nao looked at his phone clock, furrowing his brow. “It must be early where you are- I don’t think I’ve ever heard you up before 6 am.”
“Pfft,oh please- I can be awake early! Sure, it’s easier to wake up with your voice in my ears, but I’ve managed fine on my own.” Nao could picture the smile Natsuya wore as he spoke, satisfied at the soft blush he always managed to earn from the lilac haired man. “Though I really do prefer you over my alarm clock.”
“I’ll send you a voicemail. You can use that as your alarm.” Nao told him, already envisioning the pout. “I can literally feel you pouting through the phone.”
“I want to hear your voice in real time though!”
“Come home and you’ll hear it all the time.”
“Alright, bet.” A competitive note entered his tone, making Nao smile. Neither mentioned the likelihood of Natsuya following through was slim. His life was full of travel right now, and Nao didn’t have the heart to ask him to settle.
Nao was patient and Natsuya was stubborn. They could make this work.
“How was your flight, speaking of?” Nao finally reached his apartment, pulling his keys from his pocket as Natsuya spoke of the sights he saw and funny people he interacted with. Pushing open his door, he furrowed his brows upon seeing tossed aside shoes in the middle of the room. “Natsuya, we talked about this; you can’t just leave your shoes in the middle of the…”
Wait. Natsuya’s shoes.
In his apartment.
As of right now.
“Natsuya…what plane were you on?” Nao asked.
“Ha!” Phones suddenly dropped to the floor as arms wrapped around Nao from behind, Natsuya planting kiss after kiss against his cheek as he squeezed his boyfriend close. “Surprise! Guess who flew back to Japan!”
“And you still can’t put your shoes away.” Nao tsked softly, turning around to properly look at Natsuya. His hair was messy from the trip and there were dark circles beneath his eyes, but it was him. It was Natsuya.
Natsuya was home.
“Aww, come on, babe! I’m finally home and that’s the first thing you say to me?” Natsuya tsked, putting on his best pout. “You're so mean!”
Nao laughed, shaking his head as he pulled the other man close, kissing the pout away. “Welcome home, my love.” He breathed against him, letting the pounding of his heart finally show as Natsuya tugged him closer, rocking them gently as they melted in each other's embrace.
~~~
“Did you really not miss me at all?” Natsuya asked after dinner that night, the dishes clean and any leftovers stored away. “I know I called you almost every night since I’ve been gone, but still?”
Of course Nao missed him. The lilac haired man couldn’t tell you how many nights he stayed up staring at his phone after their call ended, aching for the brunette to be back by his side. How dream Natusya appeared during his sleep and how much strength it gave Nao to get through the worst days. How on one of Natsuya’s calls he left a message of him singing Sam Smith’s “One Call Away ''- terrible as the rendition was, Nao saved it and played it when he really needed to hear Natsuya’s voice.
He could and was willing to tell Natsuya all these things.
He would, eventually.
For now, he wanted to tease him a little. It was only fair, right?
“I knew you’d come back eventually.” Nao kept his voice light and matter of fact, avoiding looking directly at his boyfriend. He knew the minute he did he’d break, unable to hold down the giggles at Natsuya’s shock. “You always do, so I figured why worry?”
“Damn, that’s ice cold.” Natsuya snorted, shaking his head. “And here I thought you’d be happy to hear I’m staying for good.”
Staying for good! “That’s good to know.” Nao couldn’t fight down the smile pulling at his lips. “I’ll get the spare bedroom ready.”
“Nao!” Natsuya whined, flopping forward and wrapping his arms around his waist. “You’re being so mean to me! You can’t tell me all my serenading over the phone did nothing?”
“Besides giving me an ear ache?” Nao pretended to think about it. “Hm…maybe.”
“Oo, you little minx! Come here!” Natsuya quickly sat up, pulling Nao into his lap. “I’ll show you for teasing me!” With that, his fingers wormed their way along Nao’s torso, scribbling and prodding gently. “Take that!”
“Ah! Ahehahahahhaha! Nahahahhatsuya, wahahahhahait!” Nao yelped, wriggling in his boyfriend’s arms as his sides were prodded, soft breathy giggles raising to his lips and filling the air around them. “Yohohohou doohohohon’t neehhehed to dohoohoho thihihihis!”
“Oh but I must! It seems you’ve gotten too used to me being gone, so now I’m gonna have to remind you of all the reasons why you should miss me.” Natsuya let his hands move upward, tapping along his ribs with rhythmic pressure. “Starting with number one- I’m super cuddly!”
“Mohohoohohre like clihihihihngy! Ahehahahaha, Nahahahahhtsuuhuhuuh!” Nao weakly pushed at his boyfriend’s chest, only opening up more tickle spots. “Dohohohohon’t stahhahahhahart!”
“Start what? Tickling you?” Natsuya giggled as he wormed his hands up and into Nao’s armpits, making him yelp. “But you have such a cute laugh, babe! And look at that smile!” Natsuya reached up to gently take off Nao’s skewed glasses, leaning forward to kiss the space between his eyes. “I missed this the most. I want to wake up to your smile everyday for the rest of my life.”
“Stahhahahhahy arohohoohohund and yohohohoohohu wihiihihihihll!” Nao squeaked, cheeks flushed and painful from how much he was smiling. Eventually, when he was nearly breathless and at his limit, Natsuya finally stopped, pulling his hands back and encasing his boyfriends instead. “Ahehehe…hehehe…yoohohu’re tehheherrible!”
“You love me.” Natsuya laughed, leaning up and kissing his forehead.
“Shuhuht up…” Nao closed his eyes as he took a breath. Then he dared ask. “Do you…truly mean it? Are you staying for good now?”
“Yep! I got it all figured out.” Natsuya grinned as he snuggled Nao closer to him. “I’m already prepping for classes here- I’ve got a sweet gig downtown that pays good, and best of all: I have my number one by my side.” Natsuya reached up and brushed lilac bangs from a smiling face, leaning in and kissing him gently. “I’m staying by your side and never leaving again.”
“You're such a dork.” Nao let out a wet laugh, kissing him again and again as he finally let the reality of his new life settle. Natsuya was staying. Natsuya was home for good.
“I really did miss you.” Nao breathed when they finally pulled away, no longer feeling the need to hide it. He waited for Natsuya to hoot in joy, to poke him playfully and declare how he knew it.
Instead Natsuya smiled- the effect as warm as the morning sun. “I missed you too.”
Natsuya would exchange Ikuya's cell phone number for a six-pack of beers
Natsuya: Hey, I gave your number to the guy at the convenience store.
Ikuya: How come?
Natsuya: It's just that he likes you. And he told me that if I gave it to him, he would give me a six. If you want, don't answer him.
Someone wants to exchange a six for Nao's number and Natsuya doesn't hesitate before rejecting.
What’s that post that’s like “reading my own writing tells me things about myself I wouldn’t confess to while being waterboarded” There are things I’ve written that I will never let anyone read because I don’t want to know what it says about me that I’ve written this specific flavor of Natsunao angst so many times
@kisumshi asked: ❛  can we do this again? but maybe this time as an actual date.  ❜ NatsuNao uwu
Tumblr media
For as long as Nao had known Natsuya, he could count on one hand the amount of times his long time best friend (read: crush) had actually managed to baffle him to the point of silence. He knows himself he hadn't made it know just how much he was in love with the other, not wanting to tie him down to being in Tokyo with him while their careers took them in separate directions.
But for Natsuya to suggest taking him on a date for real instead of meeting up usually at a bar together to eat fancy steak and have a beer, wasn't something he'd ever thought would happen some time soon. He pushes up his glasses slightly to hide the faint blush dusting his cheeks.
Tumblr media
"So, the usual? Or do you plan on taking me to somewhere much fancier than this?"
Nao answers, softly.
"Was this a practice run for you or something Natsuya? I knew you to have been shy in middle school, but not still today."
THESE STICKERS ARE SO. CUTE!!!
Tumblr media
also i’ve been losing my mind recently over makoharu and natsunao trainer/athlete comparisons and here’s a little thing i was thinking about:
cute: makoto shyly asking nao if he misses natsuya when he’s away, and nao understanding that makoto misses haru and needs a little reassurance
also cute: makoto and nao getting drunk and emotional together about missing their boyfriends and leaving them sappy voicemails
(nao will later reveal to makoto that haru apparently asked natsuya if it’s difficult being apart from nao. natsuya’s response was “of course it’s not easy! but if you miss makoto just call him!”)
Tumblr media
It happened in a single night and rippled through the city of Iwatobi like a wave.
***
Miyako glided as quickly as the wind would carry her over the dark, quiet coastline, towards the inner city. Her clan had just said their goodbyes and were one by one going back to business as usual until only Hiro and Tachi, her closest friends, were left, watching her until her silhouette disappeared.
“Think she’ll be happier?” Tachi asked, finally moving towards one of two abandoned beach homes the clan utilized for storage. She pushed the door open, its handle long gone, grabbed two empty backpacks hanging on the wall, and gave one to her companion.
“She’ll definitely be less restless,” Hiro replied, maneuvering the backpack’s straps under his wings, over his shoulders and clipping them into place. “The city will keep her busy.”
Tachi adjusted her own pack. “I just hope she’ll be safe, I worry every time another one of us goes over there.”
“You two worry too much,” a burly grey tank of a gargoyle chuckled—the leader of the clan, Ono. He approached the house with a slow saunter as they came outside. “Don’t worry for her, have confidence in her! She’s not the first of ours to transfer to Samezuka and I doubt she’ll be the last.”
“I have no doubt the Samezuka clan will be safe, I’m hoping the Samezuka district is as kind,” Tachi stretched her green feathered wings a few times, pulling their muscles and testing the currents coming in from the waves.
“Well, Seijuro left and I haven’t heard any complaints from him. Between you two and me, the last I spoke to him, Toraichi said he was heavily considering our boy as his second.”
Hiro’s eyes lit up. “So soon?”
“It’s not official or anything, but Seij has proven himself more than capable of taking charge. Not going to lie, I’m kind of jealous, he was such a hothead before he left, guess city living humbled him.” Ono rubbed the back of his neck and looked out at the expanse of beach that lay before him on either side.
Right in the middle of the vast beach and small grassy hill were two beach houses that had been put up for sale and abandoned long ago. Gargoyles weren’t the best carpenters, but they did what they could to keep the homes as neat as possible, sweeping away dust and keeping their belongings organized. The paint outside had started to chip in some places, but that was of little concern. His clan was scattered throughout the beach, talking, playing, swimming in the waves, exercising their wings in the skies—this was where the Iwatobi clan lived, far enough from humans to live as they pleased without being on constant alert.
It was rumored amongst the clan that their ancestors came from the mountains and eventually migrated down to the coast.
The houses came some five or so years ago, and Ono was sure they would have to give up their beachside home, but the two houses were built, construction was halted before more could go up, and no humans ever came. The closest beaches occupied by humans were miles away, the clan protected by an uninhabitable rocky cliff to one side, and miles of wilderness beyond the beach on the other. The Iwatobi clan didn’t know much about human customs, save for what they bothered to learn from the fae folk they made supply runs to, and eventually the clan grasped enough of the concept of how humans used money to learn that the houses were too expensive for their own good, so they fell through and the clan was once again safe.
They now used the homes as an epicenter, storing supplies, food, clothes, personal items and occasionally gathering inside when weather inclined. Everyone worked to keep the houses tidy and the beach clean. The beach had long since been declared closed by the authorities and haunted by the locals and the Iwatobi clan rarely ventured into the city unless making supply runs, which Hiro and Tachi were assigned to tonight. Miyako grew up in this clan and at some point she found cleaning and swimming too dull for her senses and craved something more exciting; shortly after, she met Toraichi.
“Go on, you two, you’re wasting moonlight,” Ono said, as the pair climbed to the roof of one of the houses, caught a gust a wind and flew towards the city.
Iwatobi was a large but modest island city, connected to the rest of the world through bridges and ferries on the west side; it grew from infancy as a small fishing town and had since tripled in size, though not so much in grandeur. It had its checkpoints—choice restaurants, lovely housing options, and a downtown one could describe as bustling on the right day—but was rarely filled with excitement or experiences typically associated with a city of its size. Located in the heart of the city was the social hub known as the Samezuka district, an expanse of shops and noise that spanned about three blocks, where the other gargoyle clan resided.
Miyako tucked her wings close to her as she maneuvered between vacant streets and dark alleys, forced to be more wary of humans. She flew down into one alley, gliding silently over a passing car, and pressed herself against the cement wall. She watched as people yelled over the crowd, trying to hear themselves, keeping their eyes glued to the path in front of them or to the ground to avoid relentless salespersons. If anything new or exciting came to Iwatobi, Samezuka would find it first and spread it through the rest of the city like a literal heartbeat, pumping ideas, merchandise and the promise of something bigger, better, flasher. On the opposite end of the street, a large billboard was in the process of being built; another sign to sell another product. Miyako had never seen actual daylight, but she surmized Samezuka was just as bright. The energy in the street was invigorating, she was almost tempted to walk out and experience the rush for herself, but instead she sighed and scaled the wall, making her way to the roof.
In the short distance, she saw shadows moving across the rooftops—they’d almost be undetectable if she didn’t know what she was looking at—and her heart thrummed loudly in her chest when one of the shadows made their way towards her.
Toraichi was a built gargoyle with medium brown skin, his body covered in dark stripes outlined in white. His large batlike wings wrapped lazily around Miyako, bringing her closer.
“Welcome home,” Toraichi said, gently tucking a strand of long red hair out of her face.
They fell into each other’s arms like it was the one place they were always meant to be. Toraichi was the young leader of the Samezuka district clan, a caring and considerate leader who worked alongside his clan rather than ruled over it. He came to the city with a handful of rogues—gargoyles that lived on their own—some years before. They found a home in Samezuka, taking an immediate liking to how much busier it was than the rest of the city, and soon afterwards they were found by the Iwatobi clan. Younger members of the home clan, curious about the newcomers, would often hang around until some became a permanent part of it, and the ragtag Samezuka group of no more than five quickly grew to fifteen.
Hi, thanks for all the rant about FS2, like I won't lie a part of me did enjoy but I know 100% stem from the fact that the characters are so much serotonin free (pun non intended) for me that just seeing their face make me happy (and I also did like seeing them hang out) but story was 😭😭😭 why did they do that??? Haru just go to Hungary without telling anyone?? What?? HE WENT PAST THAT?? And how he said he is okay to not be normal, that line i hate it so much IT'S NOT HARU CHARACTER!!! I never truly mind Haru going pro given the genre (tho the stories where he is not are *chief kiss*) but make him say that?? No just no!!! And how they lessen Makoharu bond??? Wtf?! Or Makoto in general... Also Asahi, the last scene with him wtf was that??? God why did him dirty?? Also where is my natsunao swimming??? Natsuya didn't complain about that for all this time to not see them??? And what Rei's dream?? WHY HARU CALLS SOUSUKE?? I know it's the spotlight color but I still need to know??? You can tell me that and now give me the answer??? And you can at least give Iwatobi swimming club random npc to the club like S2, why Romio, Shizuru and Ayumu have to be alone? What's Gou and Isuzu uni? I like how Kaede become part of the group but it was waaaay too fast (people complain about Hiyori but it makes sense seeing his proximity with Ikuya) and what's Albert's point? Like the idea of him becoming free is nice on paper but on practice it fall flat, like the imagery is nice but didn't do much... Also Ryuuji and Kaede's cousin plot lead to nowhere?? What happen to him actually, why making them parallel MH?? What's even is his name again?? Like design wise I love him but we could literally cut him off and nothing change?? I think FS would have gain to be an S4 and S5 to develop more the story... It felt too fast and too slow, like I love the characters interactions and that's about it... Wish it was just 1h45 of the Tokyo gang talking at Maron... S2 was the best ending of free and I love everything that went after!!! (Well beside FS) honestly KA are lucky my love and bias toward the cast are THAT strong I eat everything up but man did they did my comfort anime dirty and I hate it, sorry for the long rant wanted to let all our, tho I am glad the fandom stick together on that
Honestly i hate that we ended up with more questions than answers not bc fs2 was intriguing and left us wanting more but rather bc it was so dumb and braindead and hollow that it did nothing at all to advance the plot it itself had laid out in part 1. Like i don't want s4 explain and fixing things bc it's irreparable to me. There is no way Makoto should forgive Haru for his behaviour, there's no way Haru's behaviour can be justified bc it didn't make any sense in the first place. There's nothing to do with Kaede's brother's story + Ryuuji bc they missed the chance and it's too late but then why set up the parallel and continue it in this movie with the whole "drop the chan" if you're not doing anything at all with it?? It's literally just out of place scenes now bc they don't get any ties back to the story so it's purely shite story telling. There's no way to fix Rin's character (who spent LITERALLY the entire show having the most incredible development only for them to absolutely annihilate all of that for WHAT), and even having Ssk FINALLY overcome all his problems and make a recovery and participate in a relay with Rin and win gold is just. Overshadowed by *checks notes* Haru who's been swimming all his life, the guy who's literally described as someone loved by the water, passes the fuck out from one leg of a relay. Not ssk overworking himself, not Ikuya or Rin trying too hard, but literally the guy who's ten times better than all of them combined..... passed out from swimming. Like fuck off actually. I know it's supposed to be a movie and suspension of belief is a thing and yeah whatever he was overworking himself but it just DIDN'T MAKE SENSE HARU JUST WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING HE DID IN THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah we're loyal to free bc of what came before this and i know most of us will remain but it's bc of the community we've created and the way we understand these characters, and not bc fs2 was worth us sticking around for. Death to author or whatever
