The Bomb: The Weapon That Changed The World GN -  Laurent-Frederic Bollee, Didier Alcante & Denis Rodier
On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 in the morning, an explosive charge of more than 15 kilotons fell on the city of Hiroshima. Tens of thousands of people were pulverized, and everything within four square miles was instantly destroyed. A deluge of flames and ash had just caused Japan's greatest trauma and changed the course of modern warfare and life on Earth forever. The world was horrified by the existence of the bomb-the first weapon of mass destruction. But how could such an appalling tool be invented? In The Bomb, Didier Alcante, Laurent-Frédéric Bollée, and Denis Rodier have created an exhaustive and definitive work of nonfiction that details the stories of the unsung players as well as the remarkable men and women who are at the crux of its history and the events that followed.

About Imelda Goldfinch
Looking back over episodes, transcripts, and the wiki as a friend experiences Midst for the first time, I keep coming back to Imelda.
She "mistook" Weepe for the Mayor of Stationary Hill when they bumped into one another (literally) in S1 E5 "Missions". She spends the rest of S1 pester-courting Weepe into the Trust, starts him at Zero, and then grants him enough Valor to become Upper Trust for the Cabaret betrayal. She makes sure he gets off Midst in the Consector's flagship.
In S2 she continues her Weepe project, showing him around the city, introducing him to people, accompanying him to Upper Trust meetings. And then the Arca, S2 E13 "Inside." Where she uses her zealousness to torment Weepe until he (outwardly) acquiesces to her.
She knew about his condition, and his medical treatment. In detail. Cameras aren't that advanced in this cosmos, and Weepe keeps that knowledge quite secret; Saskia knew after four years as Weepe's business partner, and being noted as perceptive. When and how did Imelda find out, enough to gauge a normal day's risk (if not enough to know what happens when Weepe gets excited/stressed)?
In S3 she is front and center at the naming of Weepe as Tripotentiary. She automatically becomes his Archauditor, a minimal show made of having to create the position and choice to fill it over brunch. She attends high end meetings like the dinner with Kozma, where Imelda makes interesting notes on her menu (per the appendices) about what Weepe does and doesn't like, among her other notes and reactions.
Then we get to S3 E9 "Baron."
And I have to wonder: Did Imelda "mistake" Weepe in S1 when they met? Was she there not just because of the Breach investigation and/or Moon sale, but for him? Does she know, or at least suspect, who Weepe was before his first Fold-induced transformation and the salvation from the Mothers?
Imelda is a character that fascinates me, and is a bit frightening when thinking about her. She gives some of the same vibes as HP's Dolores Umbridge, but with the caveat that Imelda seems to be a True Believer in the Trust--while also being extremely driven and ambitious. We saw in her Notary prep school yearbook that she had Caenum as a girl (with the note "most likely to Break Even"). When we meet her, middle-aged, she's wearing a wide sash of Valor and regularly rubs shoulders with the Upper Trust.
It took Fuze Peabody his entire working life to Break Even by retirement (and given Lark's past, they start working rather young in the Trust; no child labor laws in the Highest Light I suppose, for those in debt). Most Trustees never reach Zero; it's why so many Breach.
And so much of Imelda's recent Valorous momentum has been due to her maneuvering of Weepe. Of the things she has done with, for, and to him.
Did she gun for Jonas Spahr being removed as Prime Consector? Was it convenient, or targeted? Disdain for the Company or just a way to maneuver Weepe into power? And why? Did she see the incompetence at the top and think it could be better? One of her menu notes is re-starting Valor checks for Upper Trust and other important meetings. Did the Fleit scandal make her think change was needed? Does she think Weepe can get her what she wants when the rest of the Upper Trust cannot?
What does she know? Why is she doing all this? Personal power? Grandiose zealotry? Revenge? A little of everything? Is Imelda the real mastermind and arch villain?
I dunno, and that last may be a bit silly (??) but something is going on with this woman, and she stands somewhere near the heart of this tangled web.
"He's totally fucked" the Narrators say of Weepe when he bumps into Imelda that first time. That's certainly been true in many ways--and I don't think it impossible that it will continue to be, with Weepe maybe not expecting the damage this scarily cheerful little lady with Pollyanna curls can still do to him before the end.
For the good of the Trust.

Ok, here are some thoughts on Death Grips, cause I forgot earlier whoops
I’ve been feeling some latent frustration with how I see a lot of people online engage with their music. I don’t mean to be some kind of elitist about this, but a lot of the (deserved) praise that I see them getting feels kind of…detached? It’s almost always coming from the kind of “woah, this music is crazy…but it works somehow?” mindset. I know I’m absolutely making a strawman argument here, but I’ve seen it enough times to where I feel like it’s not just a person I’m making up in my head to be mad at.
I feel like some people don’t get that DG isn’t good in spite of the “insanity”, they’re good because of the “insanity”. And I’ll admit, a lot of their music can be quite alienating! They use lots of abrasive textures, MC Ride’s performances can get very intense, it’s all a lot. But I feel like there are tons of moments of sheer beauty within DG’s discography. The riff from Centuries of Damn comes to mind, it’s so tired and desperate sounding, it’s incredible.
Hearing the incredible art that DG puts out is great, but to see a lot of people in it for the pure spectacle is a little disheartening. And I’m not trying to claim to be the only one who really gets Death Grips, at least I hope I’m not. I just really only see people talk about how crazy they are instead of how flat-out good they are.
Like, each member of DG itself is so talented!
Ride’s ability to channel that much visceral feeling into his performances is impressive on its own, it’s a miracle his throat hasn’t completely given out yet. But it feels so shitty to pigeonhole his style into “Funny homeless man screaming”. First of all, that’s just fucking rude. Second, that’s so reductive! Screaming isn’t all he does, he’s a really damn versatile performer! I never feel like he’s phoning it in or reusing a vibe, he does exactly what needs to be done, every single track. Lots of the most memorable moments of DG’s music are when Ride drops the yelling, and just talks. It’s chilling every time. Plus, his ability to keep a consistent flow over the off-kilter production is a feat all on its own.
Speaking of which, I think Andy Morin might be one of my favorite music producers right now. Right up there with Arca, Patricia Taxxon, Nigel Godrich, that real legendary shit. Like Ride, it never feels like I’m hearing the same thing twice. Each DG track sounds and feels so distinct, even while keeping within the general industrial, electronic, and punk sound palettes. Even my least favorite DG project in terms of production, NLDW, never ever felt lazy or unfinished. I think it’s an excellent project, I just don’t personally enjoy it as much as other DG albums, for very superficial reasons. On projects I prefer more, I still strongly feel that he’s very skilled at creating unique sounds, while still maintaining a sense of familiarity within the outlandish production.
Regarding Zach Hill, I think his drumming speaks for itself. Like, watch any video of a live Death Grips performance. That man goes absolutely ham on the drums, every single time. It’s a wonder he hasn’t snapped his wrists more often. Admittedly, he is the DG member I have the least to say about. I tend to get lost in the electronic elements of most DG tracks, I don’t pay as much attention to the drumming. I also have yet to check out Hella, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. Moving forward, I’m definitely going to try to keep my ears open to what he’s doing while the other elements of the tracks pass me by. I’m certain I’ll find something incredible.
Put together, they’re easily one of the most unique and consistently astonishing bands ever. I say that with my full chest. I don’t know, I just really like them! Sorry for the rambling, I just wanted to get all of this out there. Bottom line, Death Grips Good.

Hisui's speakers takes the form of a black wood violin surrounded by blue butterflies, the speaker is a circular speaker inside the violín and when he starts to rap the butterflies starts to fly
Hisui's rap ability is called guilty chains when he use his rap ability Hisui can manipulate the chains of his mic for tie or attack the opponents draining his own stamina, he just can use his ability one time for battle and just in one opponent
Hisui's rap themes are around things like the misery and sadness but also the guilt for anything, he raps about his own feelings of sadness or how he "is tired" but also mention the guilt, how he feels guilty for something in special. How he feels sad for too much things but also mention be grateful with his new family and lover, or his love towards his younger brother

Personality
Aloof and lethargic, Hisui seems to be a serious person with a aura of melancholy and sadness around him. With his family (adoptive father, sister and boyfriend) he acts more mischievous and a bit outgoing. Despite it Hisui also could have moments where he feel a bit annoyed when Aoi,Akai and Ruka insist on take care of him during his depressive episodes or when he's having a bad moment with his health, that's because he sometimes think that he not deserve all the "warm and love" he has now due to his low self-esteem. In part for the experiments on him and the guilt for leave Kohaku, falling in depression when Hisui think how his beloved younger brother now hate him, but he trie (and fail) not show it when it happens

He was the subject of the project "white rose" made by a lab owe by th ARCA prison. The experiment consisted of mix magic and science to modified a soul until make it "artifitial" but the experiment was a failure
The reason why Hisui has all his healt problems is because the group not had the soul magic to modified properly a soul, and the scientist had not enoughly knowledge for take care of him
Hisui need to take too much meds in form of pills and inyections, that leave him track marks
Sometimes during his depressive episodes he tried to mix his different meds and use them as drugs

Rainy Dawg Radio's Favorite Albums of 2014
The Blawg Team got together and compiled their top five albums of 2014, ten years later.
Tumblr media
Emi
Chuuwee, Trizz - Amerikka’s Most Blunted
One of my favorite rap albums ever, Chuuwee never got his limelight. Fun vocal interludes in between brilliant sampling and blunt, catchy verses.
Twin Peaks - Wild Onion
Good indie music from my middle school days.
Ariel Pink - Pom pom
I don’t care that he stormed the capitol.
(Editors note: Rainy Dawg Radio does not endorse the January 6th insurrection.)
Nicki Minaj - Pinkprint
Iconic, formative album. My sister had it on CD and put the foldout poster from the case on our wall.
Mac Demarco - Salad Days
Nobody can’t not like this one.
Sean
Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence
Lana Del Rey embodies “the woman on the side” on her gothic Ultraviolence. Sex, money, and infidelity circulate the project as Lana channels a “mistress” persona on swirling Americana instrumentals.
FKA Twigs - LP1
On her debut LP1, FKA Twigs’ voice effortlessly glides across delicate, porcelain beats that sound like they could shatter at any given moment. Exploring themes of sexuality and devotion, Twig’s invites the listener to step into her world.
Aphex Twin - Syro
Richard D. James’ most intimate digital experiments come to life on Syro. Skittering breaks layered with acidic bass lines ricochet across the tracklist, creating a delightfully unpredictable listening experience. The project is peacefully brought to an end with the astounding closing track aisatsana [102].
Arca - Xen
Arca’s iconic debut Xen combines hazy synths and drum samples with dissonant acoustics. Through the harshness, Xen’s haunting beauty never ceases to shine through.
Tinariwen - Emmaar
The nomadic Taureg rock group made their triumphant return in 2014 with Emmaar after being displaced from Mali. Despite being recorded outside their homeland, Tinariwen makes no compromises on Emmaar; their smoldering lead guitars and resilient lyrics are as strong as ever.
k-murph
mitski - bury me at makeout creek
although the competition is steep, i believe bury me at makeout creek is mitski’s best. although i adore every mistki album, only this one has “last words of a shooting star”. and “francis forever”. and “i will”. and every song on the album. i rest my case.
hozier -hozier
hozier’s debut album will forever stand to me as one of the most enchanting projects of all time. his lyrical genius, beautiful vocals, and sheer force of mystical magical forest man-ness propel this album to the status of a forever classic. i love you hozier. i’m sorry i passed out in the pit of your seattle show four times.
TV girl- french exit
french exit has some of the most enjoyable production out of any album i’ve ever heard. every time i play “lovers rock” at the function, the crowd goes wild. guaranteed! also, apparently, this album was released on my 10th birthday! cool!
adrienne lenker, buck meek - a-sides
i love adrienne lenker more than maybe any other person on earth. the haunting beauty of this album is incredible. also b-sides. this kind of includes both, because i’m famously indecisive. i’ve always said i think adrienne lenker is the perfect artist for some good old-fashioned washington clouds and rain.
taylor swift - 1989
sue me. i simply cannot resist a little bit of sparkle and glitter and corny pop—plus, 1989 undoubtedly marked a cosmic shift in our universe. the impact of “blank space”, let alone this album, is undeniable.
Ben
Mitski  - Bury Me At Makeout Creek
Had “Texas Reznikoff” not opened this album, it would still be my favorite album of 2014, but it does, so Bury Me At Makeout Creek is also one of my favorite albums of all time.
Pinata - Madlib/Freddie Gibbs
At fourteen or fifteen years old, you (I) discover an album that not only contains strictly songs you enjoy, but also makes you want to discover more music that sounds just like it. That was Pinata for me… also the production on “Knicks” is ridiculous. And “Shame.” “Robes” too. I’m constantly asking myself “how did he do that” in regards to Madlib’s work on this, but he’s not really reinventing the wheel or anything, it’s just like he woke up and decided to make the best beat you’ve ever heard seventeen times.
Black Kray - 700 Dagreez
I was very late to the Black Kray party but I’ve come to understand 700 Degreez as one of the best cloud rap projects ever released. No album released since has mingled lyrics about crying your eyes out and putting 28-inch rims on a NASCAR Chevy so seamlessly.
Black Messiah - D’Angelo
“Really Love” alone justifies this album at #4 to me…
How To Leave Town - Car Seat Headrest
Confession: I listened to How To Leave Town for the first time two weeks ago. However I’ve listened to “I Want You To Know That I'm Awake / I Hope That You're Asleep" enough since then to last me a lifetime, so I feel entitled to putting it on my list.
Parks
Ten years ago, American/UK album releases were a mess. Two albums stood out to me as being worthwhile… see below
Spoon- They Want My Soul
They Want My Soul is exactly what is to be expected from Spoon. It’s a solid record. “Rainy Taxi" and title track, "They Want My Soul" are standouts.
Les Claypool - Primus and The Chocolate Factory With the Fungi Ensemble
In a dark year for music, Les Claypool blessed us with his presence, if only for a moment. Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble has exceptional instrumentation and is delightfully creepy.
Honorable Mentions:
The War on Drugs- Lost in the Dream: Great album, just not too familiar with it.
Tom Petty- Hypnotic Dream: Its a 2014 Tom Petty album.
Dishonorable Mention:
Pitbull- Globalization : Thank you dear Pitbull for defining my middle school experience.
Zola
Taylor Swift - 1989
Pop perfection. Perfectly emulates the vibes of the mid 2010’s. One of the first times I remember an album being everywhere. Had 6 singles, all of which achieved massive success, proving that Taylor swift was a crossover mastermind. Unfortunately she desecrated “Style” when rerecording it. Thank you mom for buying this on cd.
Lana Del Ray - Ultraviolence
A perfect follow up to 2012’s Born to die. Helped her usher in a new sound while still staying familiar to her roots. Almost featured Lou Reed.
Lorde - Pure heroine
While technically not released in 2014, nothing encapsulates the 2014 tumblr vibes than Pure Heroine. Lorde ran tumblr, she ran south park, and she ran the radio. It gets a spot on my 2014 list because I was genuinely obsessed with this album in 2014.
TV girl - French Exit.
TV girl’s debut album, which unfortunately did not catch on until tik tok got a hold of it. Featuring the ultra classic “lover’s rock”.  The impact this album had on teenage girls in 2021 cannot be understated.
Tove lo - Queen of the clouds.
Stunning debut from Tove Lo. The album is a concept album split into three parts, “The Sex”, “The Love”, and “The Pain''. Overall a 2014 sleeper hit with some memorable bangers. One time “talking body” came on my sixth grade social studies pandora during class time, and I remember some random kid in my class singing along. On the plus side he's now a kicker on the Oregon State football team so maybe he was onto something. (#31)
tide2004
Flowers Taped to Pens - s/t
San Diego screamo. Very unique and influential sound. This album is one of the first screamo releases that I really got into a couple of years ago.
Machine Girl - WLFGRL
Electronic/digital hardcore from Long Island. My best friend Maddie and I listened to this album constantly the summer before I went to college (favorite tracks: “Krystle”, “Ghost”, and “Mg1”).
Alex G - DSU
My favorite Alex G album. I bought the CD last year and I have the lyric booklet up on my wall. When I saw him live he only played one song off it :/
OFF! - Wasted Years
Los Angeles hardcore punk. Ex Black Flag/Circle Jerks
Cuckoo - Magpie e.p.
Math rock from Hakodate, Japan. I love the guitar on this album so much. Really good staring out the window music, reminds me of taking the train down through California for the first time.
Pal
This took some research, because the music that I was listening to in 2014 consisted of “Fireflies” by Owl City, 1989 by Taylor Swift, the Weezer Christmas album, and that one U2 album that got downloaded onto everyone’s iPod. but looking back, there were some really great albums that year.
First and foremost, we have to talk about Mitski’s Bury Me at Makeout Creek. That album dosen’t have a bad song on it, and I can’t count how many times I’ve played it all the way through. “I Don’t Smok”e actually shatters my ribcage every time and so does “I Wil”l, and “Drunk Walk Home”, and “Townie”, and like every other song also. It’s incredible.
You’re Gonna Miss it All by Modern Baseball was a staple of my sophomore year of high school. It was written when the band was in college and realizing that they were going to be graduating soon and moving on with their lives. Coping with that feeling is a lot, and “Fine, Great” as well as “Your Graduation” will probably resonate with most people who feel like they’re losers in a small town.
Syro by Aphex Twin isn’t my favorite Aphex Twin album, but sometimes I put it on just to feel like I’m hanging out in one of those star nurseries the James Webb telescope keeps taking pictures of.
Alvvay’s self titled is the perfect thing to throw on to get some good old fashioned pining in. It’s indie/dream pop sound is light enough to not make you too sad, but also not peppy enough to get your hopes up too high. Also, it just sounds amazing. I’d eat it and it would taste like caramel and strawberries maybe.
How to Leave Town by Carseat Headrest is one of CSH’s best albums in my opinion. It’s more electronic and the themes of teenage romance in their earlier stuff fade more into adult uncertainty.
Too Bright by Perfume Genius is what I think of when I think 2014. I remember my dad playing Queen in the car on the way back from summer camp. Looking back on it, the album's emotional explosion of empowerment, queerness, drag, and radical self-acceptance is incredibly powerful, and I will definitely be playing it more.
Steven Neff
La Dispute - Rooms of the House
One of my favorite albums ever. I revisit this album so regularly so I can practice my cold hard scowl while walking home from class in pouring rain. Woman (In mirror) is genuinely a perfect song.
Adrianne Lenker + Buck Meek - B-Sides
The pinnacle of absolutely crushing acoustic singer-songwriter projects. It is incredible to think that this project is now ten years old considering Big Thief’s increase in cultural relevance. This was before Big Thief was formed as a band and a year before the two got married as well which you can just feel that emotion in this project. I weirdly like the B-Sides far more than I like A-Sides.
Car Seat Headrest - How To Leave Town
Will Toledo. Man. I believe that he claims that How to Leave Town is just a compilation album of stuff that he was working on around the time but you would never tell. “The Ending of Dramamine” and “Hey, Space Cadet” are in the running for my favorite opener and closer to an album genuinely ever.
Modern Baseball - You’re Going To Miss It All
Nostalgia packed up into thirty mins of angst. The quintessential midwest emo album. Timeless. I can sing the entire album from front to back without missing a single word.
Freddie Gibbs, Madlib -Pinata
Not a single skip all the way through. Madlib masterclass as always making it real easy for Freddie Gibbs to do what he does best. “Deeper” is such a good song and easily my favorite Gibbs song ever.
Sofia
Dean Blunt - Black Metal
Mix of alternative/indie and Americana, among other things, that really works when you’re trying to pass time. I first got into this album over the summer when I heard “100” for the first time on vacation – big fan of “HUSH” because of the jazz kind of thing it’s got going on. I also like the way Dean Blunt uses samples in this album; he samples “Over Your Shoulder” by the Pastels in “100” and “For You” by Big Star in “LUSH”, both of which work really well.
Whirr, Nothing - Whirr & Nothing (Split Version)
Noisy and heavy shoegaze/rock split EP. Listened to this EP a lot over the summer lying in bed and counting down the days until I could leave town and come back to school… My favorite song is “Chloroform” by Nothing because it does a quiet-loud-quiet thing that I love.
Brian Jonestown Massacre - Revelation
Dense, long shoegazey psychedelic rock album. The title track (“Vad Hände Med Dem?”) is sung in Swedish. I listened to this album on the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island on a stormy day, which is exactly what it calls for, I think. When I put this album on I skip “Duck and Cover” because it scares the fuck out of me.
Alex G - DSU
Another album that’s great for summer listening. Alex G’s high-pitched voice works really well with the twangy guitar and piano. The lyrics to the tracks on this album are enigmatic as ever, with a bunch of sentimental/emotional lines (“I love you, Harvey, I don’t care” in “Harvey”, for example). Seeing “Sorry" live during his acoustic Seattle show changed my life fall quarter freshman year.
Mac DeMarco - Salad Days
This album is mostly on my list for nostalgia – I did a decent amount of listening to this sophomore year of high school, and I feel like this is the type of music, that lazy-day mix between melancholia and indie guitar. Even though “Chamber of Reflection” got beat to death a few years ago, I still think it holds up, although I’d say my favorites are the first three tracks (so “Salad Days,” “Blue Boy,” and “Brother”). Recorded in Mac DeMarco’s Brooklyn apartment!
Dawson
Aphex Twin - Syro
Slightly less game changing compared to 30 years ago, Aphex Twin’s Syro shows the continuation of his sound. While hits like “180db” grow popular on social media, ambient songs like “aisaitsana”appeal even to audiences not interested in electronic music as a whole.
Machine Girl - Wlfgrl
While in my opinion Wlfgrl is significantly overrated by fans compared to the rest of Machine Girl’s discography, it still shines through as a beautiful album. Their debut on streaming services, this album continues to draw in new fans more than recent works, and esoteric sampling introduces fans to various other niche works such as “The Machine Girl” and “Ginger Claps.”
Joy Again - Forever
No longer named Forever Lesbians, the debut album by Joy Again remains an homage to their former name. A mix of intriguing instrumental tracks and melancholy hits, Forever’s 30 song, 1 hour 17 minute runtime makes current Joy Again fans jealous with its length. The combined length of Joy Agains entire discography since 2014 is less than the length of Forever.
PUP - Self Titled
PUP’s self titled album still hits hard today, despite its 10 year age. Hits like “Reservoir” and “Factories” are a clear demonstration of the talent the band has - vocalist Stefan Babcock’s grandmother’s comment about a “pathetic use of potential” (resulting in the name of the band) are easily proven wrong on this record.
Death’s Dynamic Shroud - NEON GENESIS EVANGELIS
A precursor to their 2015 hit I’ll Try Living Like This, NEON GENESIS EVANGELIS is a must listen for fans of the band. The song “CD Player” is an earlier version of the much more popular song “CD Player, Pt. III”, my personal favorite, “Strange Scenery” creates beautiful soundscapes that almost evoke imagery of the aforementioned strange scenery.
Skyler
(In no particular order)
Kagayaki - Masakatsu Takagi One of my favorite albums of all time. Pure joy for the entire runtime, Masakatsu Takagi’s ear for contemporary classical composing on top of sonically effervescent soundscapes is genuinely so beautiful. I’ve cried to this album –I wanna say, like– 10 times over. His ongoing Marginalia series continues the grounded, blissful tones that Kagayaki started and I couldn’t be happier.
N****s On The Moon: The Powers That B Disc 1 - Death Grips
Conversely, the first half of what would be a completed The Powers That B is composed in what’s nearly an opposite direction to Kagayaki. Compared to their other works, it’s easily overlooked (and while I can absolutely understand why), N****s On The Moon’s dynamic, Björk-fuelled brutalist production and harsh lyricism is such a good time.
You’re Dead! - Flying Lotus
Really incredible hip-hop/jazz-fusion record by Flying Lotus. I remember being given a hand-me-down of this record on vinyl (along top of a fresh copy of his 2010 LP Cosmogramma around 2016, thank you Nolan) and just gawking at the interior artwork while listening to “Tesla.” Really incredible stuff.
Three Love Songs - Ricky Eat Acid
BANGER AFTER BANGER AFTER BANGER. Ricky Eat Acid’s Three Love Songs is in a similar breadth to that of Takagi’s Kagayaki in its minimalist, earthy tones with tracks like “Big Man’s Last Trip Outside” to the grand orchestral airy vocalizations on “I Can Hear Breaking As One,” all accompanied by rounding Moog synths. Sounds like the word “honeycrisp.”
Gray Data - Five Star Hotel
Bombastic harsh noise with gripping discordant beats, Gray Data’s expansion on hardcore EDM means so, so much to me. Incredibly funny and inventive use of sampling (thinking of the siren on “Outside Solaris”). Hypnotic and migraine inducing in the best way possible.
Honorable Mentions: Swans - To Be Kind; Sun Kill Moon - Mom, Benji
Willow Goetting
BLAWG 2014 top albums
Machine Girl - WOLFGRL (2014) (Electronic/breakcore)
Machine Girl is one of the most iconic alternative electronic artists to come out of the 2010s, and has had a large influence on the rise of ‘hyperpop’ and similar genres. WOLFGRL is a favorite of mine not only because of its impeccable tracklist, but also because it heavily features samples from Ginger Snaps (2000). Top tracks: “Frenesi (Machine Girl GabberTrap Mix)”, “Mg1”, and “Out by 16, Dead on the Scene”.
Waveless - Waveless EP (originally released 2014 on BandCamp–says 2017 on Spotify but IDC) (Shoegaze)
The first song on this album is one of my favorite shoegaze songs of all time, and the whole EP is an incredible release. I am pretty sure the band is long gone and broken up now, but it's been a favorite of mine this winter. Top tracks: “Nausea (song for Proski)”, “UPCLOSE/UNCLEAR.”
Alex G - DSU (2014) (Indie rock)
DSU still goes down as one of Alex G’s best albums to date–a perfect follow up to the 2012 release TRICK. It also features a re-recording of the demo “After Ur Gone”, which definitely still recirculates on Spotify as a favorite pick of the rampant ‘alex g archive’ accounts. Top Tracks: “Serpent is Lord”, “Axesteel” and “Harvey”.
Mac Demarco - Salad Days(2014) (Indie/synthpop)
Salad Days planted the seed for the explosion of indie artists from 2014 onwards, with his style still inspiring so many acts coming out today. I still hear “Chamber of Reflection” playing in coffee shops to this very day. Top track: “Treat Her Better.”
Jessica Lea Mayfield - Make My Head Sing…(2014) (Singer-songwriter)
Very sweet and lovely springtime music for when I need some easy listening. I listened to it a lot when I was about to roadtrip to Montana last May, so it holds a very special place in my heart. Top tracks: “Seein* Starz” and “Standing in the Sun.”
Thanks for reading! Be on the lookout for the next joint Blawg Team post, which will see our writers put together some of their favorite lines in music history...

YOGA
[...] Technovintage is in the final phase of its new creation, the album "YOGA", bringing together ideas ranging from Yoga methods, to current experimental music producers, to Tenebrism painters and much more related to what caused and still causes curiosity in producer, from his childhood until now in his adult state.
At 24 years old, after producing many albums, eps and mixtapes, at this moment, this project sounds like something totally new, as I hadn't produced anything since 2021, so this time just releasing projects that were created a while ago, without creating anything new, he unleashed a more acidic and clear life regarding his vision of music and the world.
The covers will bring references to Tenebrism works, the songs are inclined to sounds created by Aphex Twin, Sophie, Arca, Grimes among others, the references of each track bring memories, as if it were a concentration of feelings made to bring oneself back, the channeling of songs with a lot of euphoria but with a lot of feeling and atmospheric effects, a work that brings pop, techno, new age, experimental and a lot of synth!! Everything the producer loves and likes most!!
The sequence of singles will show the specific duality of this era, the first half of the album is more spiritual and the second half more physical! [...]

Hi I hope you're well. I was just wondering if there were any new updates you could give us?
If not, what about any non spoilery fun facts for this or your other project?
Actually Idk if you started working on it yet but if so, How's the other project going? All I saw was animals and got excited.
Hello love! I'm doing good, winding down from the summer excitement and preparing my home for my favorite autumn season 🍂 My neighbors are getting increasingly worried about my pumpkin collection.
I do have some minor updates for you! Nothing to warrant an entire post, but small successes are also successes!
For example, the personality aspect of the prologue has passed quick testing! Now every action has an appropriate reaction somewhere in the text, no matter how small. I so enjoy flavor text 💫 (I added like 2k words of flavor text. Oops, but not really)
The naming shenanigans for the Parasite has been fun. There's some easter eggs there, depending on what you decide to name it! (ie. Venom, which no doubt will be popular) Of course all of these aliens from media have faded from human memory between 2023 and 2974, but that won't stop me from writing some general and vaguely snarky responses.
Bonus scene for this week was the very first "death" scene. Not that the MC can die this early in the game, but I'll switch to the Parasite's POV as a lil treat for both you and me 😌 It's very exasperated about the whole ordeal of its human meat bag going *windows shutting down*.
Focusing heavily on the stat page now too, and boy is it fun. There's even (placeholder) graphics! Both literary and numerical relationship stats, yay! Shiba will be the only one who even remotely likes MC in the beginning of the game, the others are either indifferent (Parasite), wary (N.) or downright hostile (E.)
There are a lot of fun tidbits from both games, but let's do TEP for now.
Did you know organized religion no longer exists in 2974? The only thing remaining are obscure records on the intranets and crumbling, forgotten infrastructure hidden deep within the oldest parts of the Pens. Cults though, those you'll find in abundance!
The metropolitan city has a name, but no one really uses it. The three districts (the Aureum, the Hub, and the Pens) are the biggest districts within the city of Arca. There are more, but no one really pays mind to those. Like suburbs that have nothing happening to be honest.
All but four planets (the four exceptions being Neptune, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn) in the solar system are inhabited by humans. Mercury is an industrial behemoth, and only houses mines, factories, and factory workers. Venus is a resort planet, but just for the richest of people who can afford it. Very bougie. Mars is a settled planet with similar massive cityscapes as Earth, but they're very much shielded under massive domes. Pluto is a prison. Many moons/natural satellites also have colonies, because humans are too many and need space.
One of those inhabited moons kinda went kablooey in 2430. RIP people who lived on Rhea.
While the future has many great technologies, humans haven't dabbled in android business yet. There are some trials on extinct animals though, but those have all been failures.
Animals only exist in zoos. The planet is too barren and crowded to house any natural animals. Sad, but no one really cares since they don't go outside the city limits on foot anyway.
Oh wee, that was a lot of loredropping, huh? Hope it gives a bit of an insight to the world!
Now the other project is in outlining stages, but I can name drop some NPCs/RO's for you 😉 They're all set in their genders too which will help me with coding.
Anyway, here's them and their respective emojis.

Yeezus: The Production
The last album Ghersi released under the name Nuuro was in 2011, and it was only two short years after this that they would have their first production credit under some of the largest names in the industry.
Kanye West’s Yeezus was his sixth studio album, released on June 18, 2013 through Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records. COMPLEX media, in the article, “A Guide to the Electronic Music Producers on ‘Yeezus’” details that there are 9 official songs on this album and five officially credited producers, besides West himself. Ghersi, who just before this time began working under the name Arca, was among these five additional producers. She is listed with production credits for five out of the nine songs ("New Slaves," "Blood on the Leaves," "Hold My Liquor," "I'm In It," and "Send It Up"), and COMPLEX compliments her clear influence on these tracks, “Whatever the case may be, Arca's contributed to five tracks on the project, more than any other electronic producer who contributed to Yeezus.” This is a clear nod to her distinct IDM, reggaeton, electronic, and dance mixes.
youtube
On Spotify, the third and fourth most streamed tracks on Yeezus are “Blood on the leaves,” and “New Slaves” with 187,204,589 and 128,666,432 streams, respectively, as of December 1, 2023. Although the lyrics of these tracks are very distinctly from Kanye West, the beats and instrumentation contain a distinct Arca influence, just as COMPLEX mentions. The beat drops and instrument exaggerations are undeniably derived from Arca’s own artistry.
I think it's also important to note how although Arca received a great deal of press coverage after her production for Yeezus, little recognizability came from her work. It’s difficult to decipher whether this is because she was relatively unknown before Yeezus and therefore the expectation of immediate stardom would be extreme and inappropriate, or because her music made people uncomfortable. Her music in all of its oddities aren’t typical, and it can’t be defined by a singular genre, and so maybe it took even longer for her career as Arca to be established as more than a producer because of her embodiment of the weird and the alternative.

some are saying the post on instagram is to “test the audience”, she if people have forgotten or not to decide is they wanna take him off the show or not! You think thats true?
So, this lie was started by freaking Arcas in Twitter. Shes 15yo and a main Percy hater.
It’s really not how audience tests work. First of all, they’re serious research, and use control and test groups and they’re a lot of work. It’s not going to go live in Instagram and have Netflix make major decisions based on this!
He has a contract with Netflix for Season 2. It’s not going to be 2.5k comments (that aren’t all hate on Percy) that’s going to say anything. It has been played 1.5MM times and has at least 250k likes. So many more people don’t give a crap about this.
Honestly, the haters are trying to sound bigger than they are. They’ve screamed for a whole month, and it has changed nothing in the real world. He still has major projects, is winning awards and no one other than the haters have said one bad thing about him.

Computer simulations show how intermediate-mass black holes could form inside stellar clusters
An international consortium of astronomers, including staff from the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, has successfully unraveled the intricate formation mechanisms of the elusive intermediate-mass black holes. They could represent the link between their smaller relatives, the stellar black holes, and the supermassive giants that populate the centers of galaxies.
This achievement derives from the DRAGON-II simulation project led by the Gran Sasso Science Institute. The scientists involved in this study computed the complex interactions of stars, stellar black holes, and physical processes inside dense stellar clusters, demonstrating that black holes of up to a few hundred solar masses can emerge in those environments.
The quest to locate and understand the origins of intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs) remains an ongoing enigma. If they exist, they may serve as the connecting link between two extremes of black holes. At the low-mass end, we observe stellar black holes, remnants of supernova explosions of massive stars at the end of their lifetime.
On the other hand, we find black holes in the centers of galaxies, millions or even billions times more massive than the sun. The formation and growth of these objects still represent a fascinating mystery to modern astronomy, mainly due to the lack of a definitive smoking gun supporting the existence of such black holes. Astronomers expect to find them in dense and crowded stellar clusters.
"Intermediate-mass black holes are difficult to observe," explains Manuel Arca Sedda from the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) in L'Aquila, Italy, and the main author of the underlying research article published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. "The current observational limits do not allow us to say anything about the population of intermediate-mass black holes with masses between 1,000 and 10,000 solar masses, and they also represent a headache for scientists regarding the possible mechanisms that lead to their formation."
To overcome this disadvantage, an international team led by Arca Sedda and including Albrecht Kamlah of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany (MPIA) have undertaken an innovative series of high-resolution numerical simulations of stellar clusters, known as the DRAGON-II cluster database. In this endeavor, the astronomers uncovered a potential pathway for the formation of black holes of intermediate mass within young, densely populated, and massive star clusters.
These ground-breaking simulations had to compute a sequence of complex interactions between normal single and binary stars, leading to collisions and forming increasingly massive stars that eventually evolve into IMBHs. At that stage, those black holes may continue incorporating additional massive stars and black holes, leading to a growth to several hundred solar masses. As it turns out, no single pathway leads to an intermediate-mass black hole. Instead, the astronomers find a complex range of interactions and merging events.
Up to one million stars populated the simulated stellar clusters, which exhibit a binary star fraction ranging from 10% to 30%. "The simulated clusters closely mirror real-world counterparts observed in the Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds, and various galaxies within our local universe," Kamlah points out.
By tracking the subsequent fate of an intermediate-mass black hole in these simulations, the astronomers identified a turbulent period marked by vigorous interactions with other stars and stellar black holes, which can lead to its rapid expulsion from its parental cluster, typically within a few hundred million years.
This ejection effectively limits the further growth of the back hole. The computational models reveal that while IMBH seeds naturally originate from energetic stellar interactions within star clusters, their tendency to attain greater masses exceeding a few hundred solar masses hinges on the environment's exceptional density or massiveness.
Nevertheless, a pivotal scientific puzzle remains unresolved: whether black holes of intermediate mass serve as the missing link between their smaller stellar counterparts and the colossal supermassive black holes. This question remains unanswered for now, but the study opens the room for informed conjecture.
"We need two ingredients for a better clarification," Arca Sedda explains, "one or more processes capable of forming black holes of intermediate mass and the possibility of keeping them in the host environment." The study places stringent constraints on the first ingredient, presenting a clear overview of which processes may contribute to the formation of IMBHs.
Considering more massive clusters that contain more binary stars may help obtain the second ingredient in the future, which albeit poses challenging requirements for subsequent simulations.
Interestingly, star clusters formed in the early universe may have the suitable qualities to sustain IMBH growth. Future observations of such ancient star clusters, for example, with the aid of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the development of new theoretical models, may help disentangle the relationship between intermediate-mass and supermassive black holes.

Here's the thing: Two weeks ago, my theater group had a play (El Arca de Noé) and we didn't get payed because the money went to the theater, and illumination and audio; YET we still promoted the shit out of it. We still encouraged people to go watch it because it's part of the job. And it's something you, as an actor, do; whether there's money or not. So miss me with that "there's no money to promote it so that's why she didn't do it" bullshit.
Exactly! Her sharing a story or a photo would cost Netflix nothing. If you feel passionate about your job or project, you do it because you want people to watch it or because you're simply proud of the outcome.

i LOVE when producers make their album because i have a thought that every musician gotta learn at least one instrument for express to someone what they want for their next project and when this happens albums like Heroes and villains by metro boomin or In my mind By Pharrell Williams end happening
And with one of the most recognised produtors of the Reagueton working for artist like Daddy Yankee or Bad Bunny, make that every important artist of that industry had at least one song produced by him
Honestly I'm not a big fan of this musical genre but i admit that this album was something fresh that i expect that every artist try at least once on their careers
If you're not interested on the urban world of this musical genre you at least try with this one because having Arca, Four tet, Skrillex or inclusive Julieta Venegas beign and giving a opportunity to this album is something impressive making remember that no matter how the lyrics or a song or the instrumets that they use are gonna make it less important o impressive, because no matter how you feel, walk, talk or think we can share something to the world that can be memorable and recognised with the past of the years
