Let's Get To Know the Artists 🎨

As expected of a fandom that has actively existed and for so many years, there are many talented artists who make contributions for Daomu Biji fandom, whether they are official artists or fan artists. I hope that more people would recognize their hard work and give them "like" and "support". Above all, please do not repost their artworks without permission/credible sources.

I know that some fanarts are too old and still can't find the artist no matter how hard we try (I feel it myself T_T) If that's the case, please explain it clearly and do not claim them as your own. Some artists also have guidelines on the usage of their artworks, such as: no reposting, no self-printing, avatar/wallpaper only, etc. For more information, you can check their profiles/homepages since every artist has their own rules, make sure to follow them, alright? Since you mentioned it in a recent post, what do you think about TOH having a sympathetic main cast of mostly conventionally beautiful, humanoid characters while still preaching about how 'weirdos have to stick together'? Do you think there's some hypocrisy in how the show handles its less 'cute' characters?

I do think it's hypocritical and that in and of itself is a problem. It's also just really fucking boring and contributes to the problem of it feeding into the fantasy problem of "Our world but with more teeth."

So since I'm going to rip into this creative choice for the rest of this blog, let's first talk about the positives of having a cast that is effectively all humans, especially all good looking ones, instead of demons, monsters, etc. After all, we need to be fair. There's a lot that goes behind these choices and while the Isles has a lot of bizarre designs in the backgrounds, there had to be a point to all of the denizens we commonly interact with looking like generic elves. *flips through notes* *checks some papers* *flips through more notes* It makes fanart easy.

...OKAY FINE! That's only SOMEWHAT hyperbolic. The reason it makes fanart easier is also why it's really easy to just go with a cast of humans. We as a SPECIES inherently trust and connect better with those who look like ourselves, for better and mostly worse. This can be as specific as skin color and as abstract as simply the human form. Yes, for people like me who are proud monster fuckers, this line blurs but for common Joe Shmoe, they're going to want someone who looks fairly normal if they're going to get really invested.

Worse yet is if you look at modern cartoons. Bare minimum, Molly McGee and Amphibia. Yes, SOME people in those fandoms will draw the frogs and Scratch... But they ALL draw the trios of human characters. And yes, shipping matters here but I've also seen a good number of Amphibia artists just admit to spending way too much figuring out how to draw Sprig because the anatomy is wonky enough to make you question yourself. If they're all humans, you can still get by just fine with your normal style and lessons that most art books are going to teach you.

This isn't even untrue from a writing perspective. Just a cultural shift (and yes I'm calling myself out on this) can be enough to throw you WAY out of your comfort zone for how to write a character besides token elements like food. Throw in entirely different anatomy, skill sets inherent to biology, weaknesses similarly inherent to that biology, and you start to have a lot more questions you need to ask for a very basic level understanding of a character. Which seems like a good transition point to talking about the monstrous denizens of TOH. Specifically that there is ONE 'monster' in The Owl House main cast and that is King.

Can you tell me what the fuck is special about King? Besides being short and fluffy, his differing anatomy effectively NEVER comes into play. His magical blasts are practically replicated by Raine whistling. Make him an 8 year old elf child and the only thing you lose is his ancestry. Not his heritage, his ANCESTRY. That's pretty fucking weak.

Edit: Someone on Twitter pointed out to me that King's design is effectively just a furred Cubone and I hate knowing this.

Otherwise, the only inhumane thing about him is that they make him a dog. Which, you know... isn't exactly going very far down on the spectrum of likability for most people. In fact, this technique isn't anywhere near new. Toothless is just a giant cat and I love him for it but I wouldn't blame anyone who looked at the How to Train Your Dragon Dragons and went "I wish they acted like dragons." Because... They don't? They have the designs and move sets of dragons but most of their temperament is far more cat like, down to having dragon nip and being distracted by reflected light.

King is also the only foreground deviation for the protagonists. As I said when I first mentioned this, you can't even really go with Willow being heavier set. She is pretty much the textbook definition of "More to love" seeing as her being slightly heavier just gives her a softer design than the rest of the characters instead of being anywhere close to unappealing like one of Mabel's friends in Gravity Falls is. You're supposed to look at Willow and go "I bet she gives really good hugs" and that's about it. Her weight, much like her ethnicity frankly, is hardly what you're supposed to think about with her design besides basic contrast.

And she's still better than the rest of the cast who are models. Including Luz for that matter. Now the show's style doesn't lend itself well to distinguishing how pretty a character is besides their reactions from a different character... But it can also absolutely do ugly. And no one in this main cast is ugly. You want a NASTY scar, you're gonna have to look elsewhere than the tatted up teenage boy and the girl who has a little flair on one of her eyebrows. One is meant to look cool, the other is still the same job while also being slight enough not to embellish the main face too much.

Amity and Eda though are explicitly in text stated as REALLY PRETTY. Like model pretty from how people react to them. Yes, one of these people is Luz's girlfriend but literally any acknowledgement of her looks is more than Gus, Willow or any of the villains (especially positively) are given. Not even Odalia who is the best case against this argument. But, you know, those are Amity's genes running through Odalia. She's not gonna be ugly because then how are all of the Blight Children ready for a Vogue cover shoot?

And here's the thing: In most media, this isn't really a problem. People like attractive people and there's nothing wrong with that. I know people want more representation and they are right to want that but also most media is a fantasy of some sort. Especially for a basic wish fulfillment isekai like TOH, a really pretty harem is packaged explicitly into the fantasy because who doesn't want hot magical beings saying they're the best?

Except then there's the line of "Us Weirdos Gotta Stick Together," or the fact that Luz is stated to be bullied (but didn't actually look out of place amongst the cheerleaders or drama kids), or the fact that TOH theoretically peddled early on a Fantasy vs. Reality theme. It is a show that is meant to CELEBRATE the Other and be challenging to those who are commonly seen as better... But the Other isn't present. When they are... They're villains. Belos is the only character with a curse that doesn't make them pretty. It's really gruesome what the curse does to him, even before he becomes a full monster. Contrast that with Eda who sprouts feathers and that's really it? Then you have Tibbles, who is a literal pig, the evil publisher who is a lizard, the monster hunters who are orcs effectively, Warden Wrath who is a homunculus? There isn't actually a clear inspiration directly for him besides 'monster' which is part of why he's one of the best one off villains of the series. The closest to a protagonist monster is Hooty which the series goes out of its way to make most people mock, outright hate and/or be actively repulsed by him, especially if it's a character we're supposed to care about.

When it comes to the villains, there are two who stand out as prettier than the rest and they both have direct connections to the main cast. In fact, to Amity. Odalia who I talked about earlier and Boscha. I guess Matt if you want to count him but as far as looking like a basic ass bitch goes, you don't get much more basic than Matt without bleaching his skin. Boscha on the other hand's prettiness is pretty much the best argument we had before she was given a half assed redemption that she was going to be redeemed. Why else make her so much prettier than everyone else? Unless it was just fueled by "She is going to be next to Amity a few times and a Blight wouldn't interact with anyone too... alternative." None of Amity's friends are more monstrous than a third eye after all and that doesn't really hold Boscha back all that much. Frankly, it probably saved her from large forehead jokes akin to what Amity gets since they both have hairstyles that pull their hair back and that's a problem for the show's style.

What does all of this mean? Well, it means in a show that is trying to lift up those who feel like they don't belong, it's still reinforcing standard beauty ideals of society. Worse yet, it just kind of discredits that Luz meets ANY outcast. I wouldn't have called my friends in High School ugly of course but were any of us ready for the runway? Of course not. We didn't take care of ourselves right for that or just didn't have the right genes for it.

Because let's face it: The eyeball head girl was NEVER going to be a main character. And that's... also really boring. The fact that witches are just elves but without any of the culture, long lifespans (as far as we know) etc. like that is also just really boring. And for a fantasy show, especially one that pitches in the first episode that ANY folk tale we have originated here, that's not good. Especially since even if they look like elves, you could have still at least TRIED to make them interesting with things like the bile sac but that's a throwaway joke to the writers. And the saddest thing is... If you're a person who LIKES weird characters, or actually embraces their weirdness and so doesn't need to be told they'll have a Victoria Secrets model as a wife... What is TOH gonna do for you? Or for anyone who doesn't want designs that are less interesting and less unique than even Danny Phantom's. And that's from fucking Butch Hartman who is not exactly known for being a top tier artist. Like SAM as a goth is more alternative (especially for when the show first aired) than fucking ANYONE in the main cast of TOH. And that show debuted ALMOST TWENTY YEARS AGO. And Valerie even had a similar bodytype to Willow but with WAY more personality!

Now I'm just thinking about all the shows I grew up with like Total Drama Island that had so much fun with even their pretty boy designs. That's frankly my biggest issue. The pretty problem in TOH IS bad thematically. Above all else though... it's just boring. Boring and lazy. How these characters look don't mean ANYTHING to them. It doesn't say much about them, the show or anything else.

They're pretty just because the creator probably likes making pretty people and I can usually support. I support Yoko Taro after all. But Yoko Taro makes people (or androids which are based off humans). This is fantasy. You can do whatever you want and the TOH crew couldn't be assed enough to even do a demon.

In a world called the DEMON REALM! I think at that point, you need to ask why the fuck they're bothering with it being a fantasy show in the first place, let alone one trying to pitch itself as anything other than basic wish fulfillment.

Ok scrolling through acotar tiktok KILLS ME. Its not the og tiktok with cool edits of ships that you prefer its just pure toxic hate.

Like me, you might have noticed there are few and few Gwynriel/elucien content then Elriel content. I don´t believe it is because they dont ship these ships anymore i think its because they are tired.

When i was neutral (about a year ago) on the ships wars, i would CONSTANTLY see Elriels being so confident about their ship and how acosf pointed to an elriel endgame. I had not read acosf by then and when i did+ the bc i didn´t hate elriel i just started to love Gwynriel.

Sometimes sarah likes to put positive factors on a ship, like something beautiful without there having to be a whole theory. Because sarah does not expect her readers to be theorists. She wants them to laugh,cry,giggle,scream. etc. So when she was writing the BC which according to elriels are not important she probably wanted us to look at Gwyn and Azriel and consider her obvious wording and differences between elriel and gwynriel. According to elriels the BC isnt important and does nothing to contribute into plots,but also it introduces Gwyns lightsinger powers? Whatever that is not even my point right now. My point is, at first glance at the BC everybody should be more positive towards Gwynriel. SJM put out a free bonus chapter. Why should something heavy like a characters powers be in there? Its supposed to be a light hearted thing. Im just tired of Elriels saying we are delusional or our ship is a crackship.

I never hated Elriel before. All the anti elriel stuff i have mentioned is everything i was already aware of before ´´hating´´ elain and az together. I was still neutral even with all those negavtives.

Its the fandom that made me turn around and choose Gwynriel. I noticed Gwynriel and Elucien content was much more surrounding pro content for their ship and cute headcanons,cannons,edits,fanarts etc. It rarely EVER mentioned anti Elriel information. Except the elriel content then and now, all revolves around Gwynriel and Elucien. Instead of promoting their ship, they have to tear down our ships and say we are crazy.

It was like: Elriel vs Gwynriel and it said that gwynriel was fanon and elriel was canon. Thats´ just false but i understand i cant change that which i dont mind but why scream about it to my face? I saw people bullying Gwyn and saying she was faking her trauma,lured in hyberns men or was evil for the sake to uplift elriel/elain. I saw people bully emerie too calling her a crippled fake illyrian and how it was stupid for emerie to win the blood rite against her cousin. Or how somehow emerie was a b*tch and does not deserve to be a valkyrie+ nesta and gwyn. I saw people make edits to uplift Elain and hate Gwyn. I witnessed people dismissing Luciens trauma and comparing him to his father. I saw people say he faked the bond to protect tamlin or what not. I saw people make up theories for Clotho saying she was odd because she said she was going to give Gwyn the necklace but probably didnt....

That was my last straw. So yes naturally i did in fact shift to the Gwynriel/elucien side. It was easier. Instead of the bullies i saw cute videos of ´´Azriel and Gwyn singing´´ or ´´Elain and lucien picking flowers´´ it was all just so lighthearted and beautiful.

Although i think the fandom for G/A and E/L decreased because they are tired. Because i was tired too. I did not even want to enter acotar tiktok because i knew we would all be bashed for it. Dont get me wrong i find myself sometimes leaving comments on Elriel videos. Not the ones with a cute edit or fanart the ones the share false information or something i disagree with. I only hope for a civil talk and next thing i know, there is a whole gang of elriels trying to push their narrative on me without listening.

Honestly the ship wars have always existed but before Elucien was the calmer side. Although sadly they got roped into the mess of the G/A vs, A/E wars. WIthout a doubt on every single Elucien video, elriels never miss a step. It would be a cute video like a fanart of them and they will start being like ´´ElAinS So UNComFOrtabLE aROUnd hiM´ like you guys ask us why we ship elucien when mentioning this but its like you dont even want an answer you just want to disagree. We tell you and you flat out ignore it.

As much as i love Gwynriel/Elucien i cant help but miss the days were reading ACOTAR was for all the characters. When it was just to see my favorites like Nesta. When i just desperately wanted to get to the iconic epic scenes.

I know if e/riel was confirmed, Elriels would firstly shove it in Eluciens and gwynriels faces and then maybe celebrate the characters.

I know Gwynriels/eluciens would too and i honestly want to see none of that. Yes i do believe we are getting Gwynriel/Elucien but i would not want to make people feel bad for their ship. They by all means can still love elriel. So many people like feylin,nesris,Aelin x chaol,aelin x dorain, and obviously aelin x sam (my endgame if rowan never existed) dramoine,klaroline,stelena,stiles x malia, Jelly,Bellarke,clexa,Rory x those 4 other guys etc etc.

Main point, Can we all just do better? Yes i am talking about elriels for my sake and lots of others peoples sakes but to everyone PLEASE.

I know that wont work though even if i say it because im only one human hahah

What im going to say is we should tag all our posts to our preferred ship and probably always put anti to the ship we dont like. That way everything is divided and less toxic. Also i will be tagging nothing to do with ship wars because i want everyone to see haha but please be nice!

This is just my experience btw im sure Elriels have has their fair treatment of toxic Gwynriels/Eluciens

i understand why the artist was offended because your post made some pretty strong if not aggressive arguments, and i'm sure some assholes took the opportunity to send that person anon hate which probably made it feel more like a personal attack than it actually was, but i am honestly so sick and tired of people using their real life trauma as an excuse for every single thing. i may not have some deep, life altering trauma but i have my own issues and experiences and i too use fiction and art to cope but here we're not just talking about fiction and art, hell we're not talking about fiction at all. the ethics of shipping real life people are already questionable enough and i don't think there's a clear cut and dry answer but taking someone so repulsive, so downright dangerous, as Vargs and not only making cute artworks of him a if he's your casual anime boy, but also shipping him with a person who hated him, is inexcusable. just saying that you don't like or support Vargs is not enough when you have practically dedicated an entire account to making fanart of him. the Mayhem community is already messy enough and by doing that, they downplay what a piece of shit Vargs is and the pain he caused. (no matter how unintentional). also can we talk about Pelle for a moment? claiming to like him and pair him with such a horrible person? using him as a prop and completely ignoring his real life relationships and beliefs? how is that fair? people are already infantalizing him enough because of his mental illness and possible autism. how about realizing that Pelle is not a prop? that he was a person who deserves respect and that drawing him in the embrace of his friends murderer, is not being respectful to say the least? what about Oystein? no one seems to want to address were Olystein fits in this situation at all, why? was he not the person affected the most by Vargs? was he not his victim? putting his friend with his murderer feels like a huge fuck you to him. overall, painting someone in a positive light and later going 'lol im just kidding' is not good enough. Vargs (amongst others..) has spend the majority of his time insulting, belittling, even sexualizing Oystein, in an attempt to ruin his legacy and he has mostly succeeded because he's surrounded by cowards like himself who don't have the balls to stand up and speak the truth. the first thing people come across when researching Mayhem is the same bullshit about what a ''terrible'' person Oystein was and how he ''needed to be stopped''. this is the narrative Vargs has created and if you don't care enough to look deeper, you'll end up believing his lies and blaming a dead person. therefore such artwork, that completely rewrites the history and relationships of these people, can be very dangerous because it can actualy help Vargs into better selling his stupid narrative. i'm not saying that this particular artist is a bad person or that they're lying about their trauma or any bullshit like that, but art affects real life and the moment you post sth online you've opened yourself to criticism. do these Vargs/Pelle fics have more depth than initially presented? maybe. maybe they truly are a great psychological analysis of Vargs (although i don't understand why the hell you'd want to touch that with a ten-foot pole) but you can't blame people for not seeing that. whenever i see fanart of a ship, i don't sit wondering what the artist wants to say with their piece, i either like it bc i like the ship or i don't. if this is your copying mechanism, fine. can't criticize someone's copying mechanisms without sounding like an asshole i guess. but my advice is that maybe people need to take a better look at themselves and see how their interests affect others as well. you can do whatever in your own time but when you post it online it contributes to sth bigger whether you like it or not.

Don't worry about the length of your messages. I like that you elaborate. I agree with everything and thank you for your message. I honestly don't understand when this person says that she is NOT a fan of Varg, or that she doesn't like him and makes fun of him. I haven't seen anything mocking. I've only seen a great idealization of the young Varg, who was a horrible person, more violent than the current Varg. And a certain idealization of the "wonderful" intellect of the current Varg. I'm sorry to say that "the mockery" is poorly done. Like when you have to explain a joke, if no one understand it, it's because it's done poorly. About Pelle, I liked this: "claiming to like him and pair him with such a horrible person? using him as a prop and completely ignoring his real life relationships and beliefs?" Yes, that's why I said Pelle is not a ball that goes from here to there. I also agree that no one seems to think what's going on with Euro in this situation. In my case, it is almost the first thing that shocks me, it is a double offense towards him. That's why I wonder if there is something, deep down, against the Euro. Because romanticizing Varg SO MUCH, yes or yes, for me, brings with it some kind of sympathy for his ideologies, therefore, some kind of resentment towards Euro. When people attack Euro, they generally resort to two things: lies about the mistreatment of Pelle, and his political inclinations, painting him as an authoritarian extremist fanatic. And therefore, Varg as a person who was encouraged to go further and do "something that many would want to do." Varg is a failure who does not know how to value the only good thing in him, his musical talent. He did not know how to value the influence of Euro and the environment in which he found himself. Now he is a clown who needs to resort to ridiculing himself on the internet to stay current, so that his morbid followers consume him "as ironic consumption." It's an internet phenomenon. And he is free only because the Norwegian prison regime is very soft. I think he should be under psychiatric treatment because he can't stop being a bad influence, even on his children, or they should send him to hard labor, so that he can channel his anger through physical labor instead of the internet. Perhaps the girls who draw Varg romantically and the people who are big fans of him beyond his music do not specifically have his same ideologies, but they admire him in some way, and it is clear that his systematically offensive attitudes are not enough to stop them and scare them away I sincerely feel that they see him as a master. I see Varg as the typical cult leader, and I feel cringe at the adoration they profess of him. "i'm not saying that this particular artist is a bad person or that they're lying about their trauma or any bullshit like that, but art affects real life and the moment you post sth online you've opened yourself to criticism." What you said sums it up. I don't doubt that this girl could be harmless in real life, and that she has traumas and that her art and fanfics help her in her introspection. I fully believe her when she says it, but the debate does not end with whether something is therapeutic or not. It is up to her to choose what things to express her art on. She don't lack talent, why do you choose Varg? That's what's shocking, I mean, it's shocking that she brings Pelle into this and twists history to support her capricious ship and celebrate that more and more people join her ship. There you can see that she doesn't do it for herself, she wants more people to romanticize Varg and have the vision of Pelle that she has, which, in my opinion, is a bit humiliating and objectifying.

I wanted to ask you, is there anything particular that you're not comfortable seeing regarding EESU fanworks? Writings or drawings.

I often do dubcon/noncon (especially noncon touching). Drugging, forcing whumpee to hurt others etc. I make sure it doesnt break whumpee too much. I like to draw/write sexualy explicit or straight up nsfw works.

I love your work and would love to contribute with some fic or fanart. I acknowledge that some things I like are not for everyone so I'd like to know your boundaries before I do something. Last thing I'd want is to traumatise my favourite writer or ruin your passion for the characters.

On the other hand. What are stuff you'd like to see?

I sincerely love your work, Its pretty rare to military work, especially for eastern block. I like the dynamic between Radim and Gunther.

Second, what I'm not comfortable with - male whumper/female whumpee (AND vice versa), noncon body modification, social rejection (yeah, sounds weird given that struggling with an ideologically brainwashed society makes a solid part of totalitarian whump) and anything close to bodily waste.

As for noncon (and dubcon), it's literally one of my most beloved whump tropes ever BUT this is SFW only blog so I'd love that but none of it will end up reblogged here. Drugging, breaking the boys (especially class 4 ones) - why not? Broken enemies make for compliant subjects, ready to do their part in the state's progress. (Not to mention they're also really cute to look at).

What I'd like to see? Honestly I don't know what I'd like more, not just because I'm already SO happy to see people wanting to do anything with that little shithole dictatorship of mine🥰 well, usual detention/sentence/designation struggles? with the prettiest whumpee boys? in absolute totalitarian state vibe?

❦ A/N: Inspired by this cute ass fanart I saw. (it was Eddie & Steve making out while Robin was in the front/corner of the pic looking like 😑. I lost track of it but if I find it again I'll link it here.) The Fruity Four have had me in a chokehold today so why not contribute to all the fics I've been reading lolz.

The heavy sigh that pushed through Robin's lips had been building up for a long time. Starting sometime around the end of her shift at Family Video. The day was long and tiring, due to it being a Friday. Every family and couple in town, it seemed, wanted to spend a cozy weekend inside. Escaping the chill of late fall heading into winter. Huddled or cuddled together in front of a lit screen and a generous stack of rented movies. Movies that her and her buddy Steve were tasked with supplying.

She couldn't judge them too much. Her and Steve's evening plans were similar. Made on a whim during a conversation earlier that day. Somehow banter, and a debate about movies based off of novels, became a promise to watch movies tonight. A promise that initially didn't include the long-haired lanky boy that came rushing through the doors just before closing.

"Shit!! WAIT! Don't close yet!"

Eddie shouldered his way through the double doors, all clumsy limbs and stumbling over his reeboks with two tapes tucked under his arm. "I gotta….return…these movies…" He huffed out between deep breaths. Hunching forward to catch up to himself. The situation was typical for someone like him. Not that Robin had any issue with Eddie, in fact, they had gotten along quite well after trauma bonding in The Upside Down. Part of accepting him (or anyone really) as a friend included accepting their flaws. Like Eddie's habit of being tardy. To class (before he graduated), to hangouts, and now to returning movies.

"Hmmm… I don't know, Mr.Munson." Robin teased, mocking the voice of the one teacher they both shared during his last year at Hawkins High. "Your tardiness holds you back more than your lack of effort in my class." She tutted, wagging her finger at him from behind the counter. The plum-polished tip of her finger caught the only light left in the store. The light from the 'employees only' back area. The ones for the main area have already been turned off.

Those chocolate doe-eyes of his didn’t have the effect on her that they had on other women (and men), but they were impossible to ignore when he pouted like that. Resembling a sad puppy left out in a cardboard box during a thunderstorm. It tugged the heartstrings in an unfair way that even she couldn't manage whenever she attempted to. Although Nancy would say otherwise. To add salt to the wound, Eddie whimpered softly, shuffling over to the counter just low enough to rest his chin on it and look up at her. "Come oonnn, Robin. Wayne asked me to do it earlier, but I forgot, and I don't want him to deal with the late fees." He cooed her name in such a babyish way, it almost made her gag and snort at the same time. "Just this one time? I'll even wash Steve's car."

"How would washing his car help me?"

"You ride in his car. Why not ride in style? Hmmm?~"

The amusing bargain was interrupted by a third party, finally stepping out of the back room once he heard the distant male voice. It wouldn't be the first time he's had to chase a guy out that insisted on barking up the wrong tree with Robin, even after she rejected their advances. Though Robin would scold him afterwards because she 'could handle herself'. Funny how she never scolded Nancy whenever she was the one to do it. Still, Steve stepped out and walked up beside Robin at the counter, happily surprised to see Eddie Munson instead of some creep. "No, no Robin. Hold on. Let's hear the guy out."

Of course he'd say that. Robin knew it was a losing battle the moment Steve joined the conversation. From the way Eddie turned up the sad tremble in his poked-out bottom lip, he must've known too. Steve was putty in his hands (no matter how much he covered it with snark and sass). "I reeeally need to return these tapes for Wayne." My God, did he- did he just bat his eyelashes??

Mission accomplished.

Like any of the fictional monster bosses he put against his friends during D&D, Steve attempted to put up a fight. Throwing a stern word or two at Eddie, and even threatening to say 'no' just to teach him a lesson. But overall, he fell. Taking the tapes in hand and beginning the process of putting the information into the computer. While Steve's eyes were occupied by the screen Eddie grinned at Robin and stuck out his tongue. Receiving a matching smirk and a middle finger. All normal parts of their friendship. Eddie made a mental note to ask her where she got her plum polish, on the rare occasion that he grew tired of his usual black nails.

"So, what are you two up to tonight?" It was a given that the two of them weren't going to just part ways after their shift. Where there was one, the other was never usually far behind. It was an unspoken fact. Steve and Robin were joined at the hip. "I got Y/n in the van waiting. We weren't really sure what we wanted to do after this."

Robin's face twisted as a thought entered her mind. One she wished she could erase from existence. "Oh ew, was that the reason you were late returning these tapes?"

"What? NO!" Eddie spat out, a bit too defensive. He reigned it in and forced an awkward chuckle. "Eh, it's nothing like that. We were just.. okay we were possibly a little high. We smoked a little and hung out. Time sort of flew." It surprised both you and Eddie how much your friendship resembled Steve and Robin's. In more ways than one. Things were never physical between you two because you simply didn't swing that way. A secret that Eddie was dead set on protecting until you felt comfortable with revealing it yourself. Robin, as of a few months ago had finally come out to your friend group (although still closeted around strangers). It stirred a small hope in you that maybe, just maybe, you might be brave enough to do the same. Just… not so soon.

Steve finished and tucked Eddie's returned tapes under the counter, clearly not in the mood to put them back on the shelf. It was two minutes to the end of their shift, and there is no way in hell they were about to put in overtime at this godforsaken place. "Me 'n Robin were gonna watch some movies at my place. You guys wanna join?"

Thus, you ended up here. Spread out in front of Steve's impressively large television, in his also LARGE living room. The fireplace was crackling softly, basking the room in heat and a comfy ambience. It was homey, in such an ironic way. Steve always described his house as cold and felt the need to constantly have company over, since his family was never around. Robin was practically moved in by now. Sighing once again as she moved to sit by the fireplace. Moving as far away as she could from the heavy panting and moist smacking of Steve and Eddie currently swapping saliva on the couch. It seems a few drinks and a sentimental movie scene was all it took to get the two of them to finally loosen up and explore that tension that always lingered between them. Good for them. You were happy for your best friend, genuinely. Maybe even living vicariously through him. Maybe someday that'll be me.

Robin didn't share your positive opinion. The taste was bitter on her tongue. One by one all of her friends were finding themselves. Falling in and out of love, and sharing stories about passionate nights and romantic dates. Yet here she was, stuck. Alone. Third-wheeling once again and striking out every time. When would it be her turn? She thought that taking a leap, even if it was small, would reward her with a maybe equally small victory. She took that leap in revealing herself to Nancy (and the gang). Heart in her hands with a silent question in her eyes. Could we try? Steve had finally moved on and even gave Robin his blessing. Jonathan had broken her trust with his lies about college and distancing himself from her. Maybe… just maybe… the closeness that was steadily growing between them meant something more. But it didn't. Nancy bounced back to Jonathan last month, even moved in with him once he got his own place in Hawkins. Shattering Robin's heart into a million pieces. Now every romantic advancement she witnessed from her friends just twisted the knife.

She was tired. She was lonely. She just wanted to have a simple damn movie night with her best friend. Not this.

"Movie kinda sucks, huh?" You made your presence known, coming to sit down beside her. A quilt wrapped around your shoulders. If this was late fall, then the winter was going to be harsh this year. Robin was already internally frozen. "I'm surprised Steve picked something like this. Always figured he'd be more of a Top Gun kind of guy."

"Clearly you haven't seen his account at Family Video." Robin replied, voice rasped and void of its usual humorous tone. "He's rented Dirty Dancing like twelve times and it's only been out for a few months."

"Let me guess-"

"Patrick Swayze." You both said in unison. Clearly aware of Steve's unspoken bisexuality. He never really said it, but he never really hid it either. Just sort of went with the flow.

Feeling a surge of confidence, you edged a bit closer to Robin. Just barely touching her with your knee as you sat criss-cross and loosened your grip on the quilt. Letting it slip low enough to expose your shoulders and the shadow of your cleavage. Your distressed Judas Priest crop top left a lot of skin available for viewing pleasure. "The mystery is, does he want to be Patrick Swayze? Or fuck Patrick Swayze?"

"Well clearly he's more into the 'Van Halen' type." Robin gestured toward the couch. Eddie and Steve were still going at it. You expected nothing less from years of pent up mutual pining. It was the bite in Robin's response that gave you pause. Along with the fact that she knew anything about Van Halen.

It dawned on you that this wasn't her original plan. When Eddie returned to the van earlier tonight after turning in the tapes, he skimmed over the fact that you and him had been invited along to plans that already existed without you two. This night wasn't supposed to end up like this.

"I'm sorry if me and Eddie kinda crashed your movie night. I didn't expect it to turn into, well- this."

Robin shrugged, keeping her eyes on the dancing flames. "It's fine. I guess I'm just tired of being a third wheel."

"Wellll… That's why I'm here. I guess. The fourth wheel to even things out." You offered, borrowing every scrap of confidence you could muster. This was your one chance, and Hawkins be damned, you would sooner let The Upside Down swallow you whole than screw this up this opportunity.

The hint flew over Robin's head. Entirely too consumed with forcing herself to accept that she'll be single forever. Telling herself that she had to be the only lesbian in the entirety of Hawkins, and if there were any others they were too old or wouldn't want her. She thought your offer purely meant a chance at friendship and that was probably the last thing she wanted right now. But you were sweet and so damn cute, so she couldn't continue being cold towards you. Instead she turned her gaze on you and gave you a sad but thankful smile. "Thanks, but it's not really the same thing."

"I… I could make out with you too. If that would help."

There it was. Out in the open. For the first time, spoken to another person (besides Eddie). The realization crashed Robin's system and fried her brain. She needed a reboot. She needed to hear it again, to be sure she heard correctly. That would be too much to ask. Saying it at all was risky enough for you, and she knew that. She felt that. Felt the same rhythmic pounding in her chest. A pounding that seemed to happen every time you thought about her. It all made sense. How defensive Eddie got whenever someone insinuated that your friendship was more than what it seemed.

"Yeah." The fire and the quilt didn't generate nearly as much warmth as Robin's voice did. Hushed and bordering on flirtatious. "I think that could help a lot."
