A benevolent and laid back symbiote, but not above getting forceful if the situation demands action. It can sense other symbiotes within people and desires to cleanse and cure. It chose its host due to a strong sharing of that desire.

Otto has samples of the various symbiotes, from Ferrol, to Ferrol's most recent of children. These samples are primarily for research purposes so that he may study them to further his understanding so that he may be able to help tend to the symbiotes and their needs.

At some point while the house is empty, Miss Negative infiltrates Otto's home and lab, looking for something, and finds one of those symbiote samples, finding interest and taking it. She attempts to bond with it, and with her powers, the symbiote sample.. mutates. begins growing into a 'proper' symbiote. She turns out to not be a suitable host for the symbiote sample and it bails on Miss Negative when taken into the shelter/home that Miss Negative runs, seeking out a new host-- or at least a means of safe travel until it finds the perfect permanent host for itself.

The permanent host the symbiote found was a struggling nun with a strong sense of wishing to do right, to help, to heal-- and the symbiote felt that and latched on. Coming to them like an answered prayer in their time of desperate need.

Placebo gained its name shortly after.

The moral of the story is to always trust your gut because a few nights ago I had a dream about the movie venom (2018) where the main character, called generic white man number 45 (my brain couldnt come up with a better name), was cuddling the whole time with the venom symbiote. I thought that surely won't happen in canon, but it did get me interested in it (that and also the fact that 2/3 of the fics on ao3 are of symbrock).

Well guess the fuck what.

It would've happened in canon. My brain cannot comprehend how canon they made them. "I am venom and you are mine" and the fact that Eddie made venom stay and venom initiating the kiss- do i need to keep going? I sense another hyperfixation coming
