Random ask - who are your top 3 'this is me' characters?

Oh anon, I struggled with this. Whenever I'm asked anything like this I immediately forget everything related to the question I've ever experienced.

With that said, I decided to go with more recently consumed media and this is what I came up with (in no particular order):

David (Staged): Wait, hear me out! David Tennant is a real human being, but Staged!David is a character. And as much as I hate to say it, that character is exactly the level of soaking wet, introspective, existential-crisis-sharing, attention-whore of a human that makes up a large part of my personality. Like, I'm not always a needy, depressed meow meow, but when I am, that's EXACTLY how I behave. I'm very sorry to any future partner(s), but in exchange I will simp SO HARD for you and otherwise make your life a delight. Depression works hard, but my adoration works harder.

Crowley (Good Omens): Yes, another David Tennant character, but in my defense I'm including Book!Crowley. Much like Crowley, I struggle with authority for authority's sake and the overall injustice of society/the world/existence, but despite a pretty extensive history of trauma, I share the belief that the universe is overall good and will look out for me (and good people in general). I also tend to latch onto one person at a time and struggle to expand my friendships outside that typically codependent (working on that part) relationship. Not to mention the sharp and dark humor, difficulty talking about serious things, and a false aura of confidence that makes it seem like I am not the least cool nerd you'll ever meet (I am).

Ashton Greymoore (Critical Role): While there are various aspects of a variety of Critical Role characters I can relate or even aspire to, Ashton is just.... So me. The chronic pain condition. The severe abandonment issues masked by seemingly logical understanding and lack of self-worth. The extreme loyalty borne of said abandonment issues. The humor. The gender. The hero complex. The conflict between the desire to be known and the need to be anonymous. The conflict between the need to do right by the world and the desire to just protect your family. The what-the-fuck-is-up-with-that of it all.

Hope that's a sufficient answer! Frankly, I was at a loss as to where to even begin. 💀

Made up fic title: "error 404: world not found"

oh I LOVE this 🔥

the first thing that comes to mind for a world not found error is an among us fic — the wicked impostors sabotaged so many systems and, now that the valiant crew members have finally managed to get rid of them all (🤞), they’re frantically working to undo all the havoc wrought.

one by one the systems have come back online and things are settling down. navigation though… everything seems to be working as it should be but there must still be a problem somewhere, even after all the fixes are in place. it doesn’t recognise the coordinates for home and, with fuel reserves and other resources running low, the computer refuses to chart a course into the nothingness of deep space.

it ISN’T nothingness, though! it CAN’T be. the crew has checked, and rechecked, and rechecked again. they’ve tried to activate the emergency beacon, which is meant to automatically plot the course home, and… nothing.

Why did you spell Chanukah like xanuqah? (I hope this isn’t rude to ask I’ve just never seen it spelled like that and I’m curious to learn more)

I'm glad you asked - genuine curiousity is very cool here! So, first off, I'm into language theory and linguistics. Delving into that a bit, any latin alphabet spelling of an Ivrit word is a transliteration, rather than a dictionary 'spelling' persay. There are different standards/systems of transliteration - leading to the classic "Chanukah, Hanukkah, Hanukah" and so on. (Some people like to insist that Their Spelling is The Right One, Period, and that's always bound to get people challenging that assertion - along with general Ivri hilarity leading to increasingly ~creative~ transliterations, including hanuka, Channukkah, honka, [clown horn], etc and soforth.)

alongside this, most 'standard' Romanized transliterations don't gel with me personally, as a religious Yid who interacts with them in prayer, reading, and crafting texts. I have a general aversion to the letter K° that was especially strong when I was in my early 20s°°, so I largely switched over to using 'q' for כ, ק any hard 'c' sound - though these days I often use q for ק and c or k for כ. I also really like the use of 'x' for ח, or כ (without the hard dot) - both make the hard, guttural 'h/ch' sound. It pleases my brain to have it be one letter, and the x symbol resonates with how the throat closes to make that sound, in my head. The 'h' goes on the end because the Ivrit word ends in the letter ה.

(I vary between x and ch depending on the word, and how it reads to me - 'xet' doesn't look like the name of ח, but 'chet' does. People who want well nailed down consistent standards would probably not gel with how *I* do things!)

Xanuqah is now my personal 'standard' 'spelling' for those holy days if I'm not using Ivrit letters - most of the others look too clunky, or feel too sanded down, smoothed out. it's the Right One for me! I like seeing other ones out there, too.

Them using my peoples' and other peoples' genocides as recruitment tactics & shock manufacturing (and making it near impossible to traverse campus without seeing these pictures!) hit me pretty hard, as a 3rd generation Holocaust survivor.
