Had a little comment thread on FB earlier today with a friend who said one of my older drawings can be made into tattoos, and that gave me the idea of repurposing the drawings - or, at least, parts of them - into sketches I can sell for a pop that can be taken to the parlor to be done.
Don't know when that'll be, but it's something I want to keep in mind for the future. I'll update this later on when I have things sorted out.

Warmest greeting my sweet, soft snickerdoodles <3
Last Month — July
What a shock! Last month I got up-to-date on all my physical perks, posted all my scheduled posts, and made great headway on one of my long-term, major-massive-huge projects for the blog. So progress. So success. So respectable adult! It was so cool to post two posts I had been looking forward to: The US flag one and the Dip Pen’s post :D I hope you guys enjoyed them! I also revived our old love: Recipe Wednesday! I’ll try my best to keep them up.
The aforementioned mega-huge-totally-all-the-work project is an extensive list of period accurate slang terms. If you’ve been with me a while you may know I have a gorgeous 720-page dictionary of slang (”The Concise New Partridge Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English”) that is a beloved fixture of my small SRNY-related bookshelf. I have been, for a while, going through and compiling a list of terms that are historically-accurate language that would relate to both our boys, as well as Steve’s mother, Peggy, and the other Commandos. It really is a long-term project, and I am only just finishing up the C’s, but when I’m done, I’ll have the full list available to everyone for fic (and other) reference, as well as a series of themed posts!
Tumblr media
Aside from posts, I have been trying to be more sociable. I’ve been semi-active on the Put on the Suit Stony Discord server, so if you see me (Owlish Fun) over there say hi <3 I’ve really enjoyed chatting with peeps over there about fic and cannon, and you know, whatever. And obv, I’m still loving the SRNY Discord, we’ve getting some new members recently and we’ve been having some great research-related chats!
Upcoming Posts — August+
August is a little behind on the post due to some health issues I’ve been having the last couple of week (see later in this post), so I might not get as much up this month as I would like :( I alway have a number of projects on the go, so below are some you can expect to see in the next month or so:
Asthma Cigarettes — Part of Patreon Ephemera Club Perk
Art Deco (art, furniture, architecture etc — on special request)
More Recipe Wednesday!
Coney Island’s Thunderbolt — Part of Patreon Ephemera Club Perk (late)
More 1920s-1940s slang
August Ephemera Club Perks (Patreon)
This month’s perk theme is medications, and will include...
Tumblr media
ONE box for "Dr. Guild's Green Mountain Asthmatic Cigarettes" and TWO matchbooks featuring advertisements for medicines available during this time period! I was so excited when I found these boxes, and I’m really excited to share them with your guys! They have all the directions and commentary for the products, as well as price. I still have two more sets of these items for new subscribers in August, so if you would like to receive your own and support the blog, you can join the Ephemera Club tier over on the Patreon!
What’s Up with Me
So, as you may already know from my earlier post, I’ve been dealing with a rather persistent ear infection this past couple of weeks. Not only is it really painful and annoying, it also makes is nearly impossible to focus properly. As such, I’ve pretty much been unable to work on the blog for more than short bursts, and I’ve not written anything new in a while. I’m trying to be productive despite this, doing some clean-up of existing research notes and minor additions. Mostly, I’ve been working on the aforementioned vocab list of slang-terms from my dictionary. It’s just absent minded enough I can do it without too much trouble. I’ve actually made great progress actually, finishing the B’s and soon the C’s! I’m new about 1/4 the way through the dictionary! Very excite.
So yeah, I’m still under the weather. Most of the stronger pain is going thanks to a course of antibiotics, bit I’ve still only got about 20% hearing in that ear, near-constant ringing, regular discomfort and with occasional stabbing pain, and just generally feeling off thanks to having a problem ear. I guess the good news is that two doctors have said their pretty confident I don’t have COVID, so joy? It’s not fun guys — 0/10, would not recommend.
Tumblr media
Beyond all that, I also moved at the beginning of this month, and how is that not the biggest news I have?? Dang health. I actually just moved (quite literally) around the corner from my other place, so with the help of my old housemate the move was quick and easy. The house is lovely, my new human housemate is great, and my new feline housemates are good company, if crafty and mischievous. Only downside is that I am allergic to cats xD Not extremely, but i get all-day sniffles if I don’t take antihistamine daily. Totally worth it.
August is a bit of hurry-up-and-wait. I start my Masters programme next months, and nearly everything is sorted by this point. I was lucky enough to be in a small programme so I got into all my first choice courses (enrolment was at 6am on the the day I moved, such fun!). This week I’ve been giving my credit card a work-out getting supplies so I’m ready for courses, including notebooks and other stationery products. I’m pretty picky about notebooks, so it took a month to finally settle on which ones I wanted to get. I might be mad.
I guess the last life note to make is the fun mid-point I’m occupying between intentional deluded calm and constant panic over my finances. I’ve been luck enough to live in a country that is providing financial support for those effected by COVID, so I have been receiving financial aid from the Canadian government since March. However, it’s going to be coming to an end soon, and with me starting a Masters degree in Sept, and my job still not really existing because of the pandemic (I work in tourism), it’s unclear what I’m doing for money come October. I have a line-of-credit set up to cover rent/food should it come down to it, if I cannot get any government assistance and my job continues to be unable to get my work. But that will just add to future Me’s debt coming out of my Masters, and a course I’m trying to avoid. I wasn’t able to get any scholarships this year, which was a huge let-down, as I had the academic clout that should have made me a shoe-in. While it is weighing on me, there is only so much I can do about it, so I’m keeping positive and know I have the worst-case safety-net of credit if it comes to it. In the meantime, I’m working on framing some vintage prints and comic book covers to offer on Etsy — something I’ve been wanting to do for a while but kept putting off. They’ll be items at a higher sell price and hopefully will bring in a little more income from the store. I’m also looking for suggestions on what other things people would like to get out of the Patreon, things that might make it more appealing for new and existing Patrons. I have recently added a Patrons-Only perk of a Masterlist of and access to my full research notes for existing and un-finished blog topics.
Ugh, this personal section won’t be this long in future, It’s just been a very eventful month so far. Love you guys, D.

Spider-Man: Life Story #4 Thoughts
Tumblr media
*graons*
Positives out of the way.
Bagley’s art+Bagley’s rendition of Morlun+the armoured looks of some of Tony’s squad.
Okay now onto the negatives.
I think I might’ve figured out what the REAL premise of Life Story is.
‘What if Spider-Man didn’t have the illusion of change and therefore everything was terrible so readers will now just accept the illusion of change forever’.
Seriously that makes the most sense at this point.
The illusion of change isn’t there and so everyone ages and everything falls to shit.
Spider-Man gets divorced, his child dies, his brother dies, etc.
But if that wasn’t the point then Zdarsky continues to make Life Story a total clown show.
He is consistent in only the following regards.
a)      Events from Spider-Man history happen randomly differently from how they happened in canon even though that wasn’t how the series was advertised to us
b)      Superheroes have a more realistic impact upon the real world except not really, it’s basically as realistic as Zdarsky wants it to be because fuck world building and consistency I guess
c)       Real life history is toxically inconsistent within the context of a world of heroes where things are different
d)      The story is inconsistent even in and of itself
e)      Peter Parker is an irresponsible, dumb asshole
f)       Various elements of the story have no intersection with one another. Remember how Flash died in Vietnam and this had...nothing to do with Miles Warren cloning Gwen????
Lets kick off with two things that can be looked at as bad points of the story but arguably forgivable...arguably.
So firstly...Morlun is in this story and then dies!
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm...Wasn’t there not one but TWO massive Spider-Man event crossovers (one as recent as LAST YEAR) which firmly establish that there is in fact just one version of Morlun in the entire Multiverse? This story is royally contradicting that. Now in fairness...that was always bullshit because we have had What Ifs and other alternate universe stories before Spider-Verse clearly depicting more than one Morlun in the multiverse.
Secondly...Civil War....fucking Civil War.
I loathe and despise the original Civil War storyline from 2006. You guys have no idea how much I honestly wish that story never existed.
A big part of that is how it wrecks the verisimilitude of the Marvel universe before and after it. Civil War was unsustainable as a status quo shift long term for the Marvel Universe and it made no sense given it’s established history. It took the realism of superheroes too far and consequently forced writers and readers to wilfully ignore it after it was done so things could go back to normal. If you do a Civil War style story it needs to either be set in an AU or end your universe and that’s it. A change of pace simply cannot work without wrecking everything.
So seeing it again is gross buuuuuuuuut, given Life Story’s mission statement of taking things more realistically and being an AU itself it actually fits better in this story than in 616 Spider-Man. The same can be said of Spider-Man’s identity being unmasked although this too wrecks the idea that this is Spider-Man aging in real time. If it was about that then the ramifications of the unmasking wouldn’t stick around any more than they did in 616, because that had nothing to do with a sliding timeline or whatever.
However the idea of Civil War fitting better in Life Story because it’s more realistic is utterly destroyed when you consider that in this universe where superheroes have a more realistic impact upon the world, where the military has Tony Stark level weaponry, where intangible nuclear missiles are a thing...9/11 still happened...
...I’m going to repeat that.
In a world where there has been near Star Trek level technology since the 1960s...a handful of terrorists with conventional weapons (not even the most high tech weapons and technology available in the real world in 2001!) are able to fool airport security, hijack some planes and destroy the Twin Towers...in New York city...where ALL THE SUPERHEROES LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look...in the Marvel or DC universes 9/11 happened. You can choose to interpret the 9/11 Spider-Man issue as canon or not canon, but it is a fact Spider-Man lives in a world where the 9/11 disaster happened. He didn’t stop it, the Avengers didn’t stop it, the Fantastic Four didn’t stop it.
Even though they definitely could have. Collectively all the superheroes of New York have weapons, technology and resources which would’ve enabled them to have intelligence on the hijackings, possibly before they even happened, probably during the hijackings and definitely as the planes were incoming. And they sure as hell had the ability to avert the disaster.
Are you telling me Al Quaeda could trick or stall or fend off the Avengers! Get the fuck out of here no they couldn’t.
The reason that 9/11 still canonically happened in the Marvel universe is simple. The Marvel universe’s realism doesn’t stretch so far as contorting the real world into something unrecognizable to the world of today. The Marvel universe has always been our world but superheroes are there. Their realistic social, political, economic and philosophical impact though isn’t. It’s why Christianity is still the dominant religion in Marvel’s America even though Thor is a thing. 9/11 being such a globally changing event means that the Marvel universe needed to retain it occurring in order to continue to reflect a relatable world to the readers.
More poignantly, just how during WWII superheroes didn’t simply end the conflict by flying into Germany and killing Hitler, to have had superheroes realistically avert 9/11 as they could have would’ve been deeply insulting and disrespectful to the real life witnesses and victims of the tragedy and their loved ones.
Zdarsky didn’t have that constraint though. He could’ve imposed it on his story had he wanted but just as with so much of the real world history his grossly mishandles (a reminder everything after issue #3 is bullshit because the world should’ve been consumed in nuclear Armageddon) he cherry picks what will and won’t be affected by superheroes existing and whether their effects will be realistically and logical or if they’ll be...whatever he randomly wants.
Case in point superheroes existing means nuclear missiles are intangible now, but superheroes existing doesn’t mean airport security is any different from what it was in 2001!
*head desk*
The ONLY way 9/11 happens in this Marvel universe is if like HYDRA did it instead of Al Quaeda or if the latter had backing from super villains.
But just like with all the altered real world history Zdarsky doesn’t explain anything. He’s lazy as a world builder. Thus we’re left to presume 9/11 happened as it did in the real world even though Tony Stark has already created technology that ended the Cold War by America beating Russia’s ass.
I mean for fuck’s sake, GALACTUS has invaded Earth and New York specifically, you telling me Tony or Reed or Hank Pym or someone hasn’t created at least some sort of alarm system to alert them to incoming threats. WTF was Doctor Strange doing!
Let’s stick to Tony for the moment. So in this issue...he’s the villain. He’s been on the wrong side ever since issue #1 really. This is another case of something bad that is arguably defendable.
See back in Civil War if you were reading Spider-Man you experienced a Tale of Two Tony’s (not my turn of phrase by the way I stole that).
You didn’t need to read Spider-Man to follow the main Civil War book but if you were reading Spider-Man you did need to read the main CW book to follow the story as pivotal events happened in the latter that were then followed up upon in the former. The most famous example would be Spider-Man unmasking which was only built up to in ASM but actually depicted in Civil War #2. However another more relevant example would be how when Spidey decided to switch sides Tony attacked him in ASM and was clearly painted as outright villainous, but then the action continued into the main Civil War book where Tony was written more conflicted and sympathetic, before the action cut back to ASM where he was very much a villain. The characterization wasn’t consistent at all, and the Spider books were not alone in this. Sue Richards’ break up with Reed happened very differently in the pages of Fantastic Four than they did in Civil War.
This is relevant to Life Story because the Tony in this book is very much the Tony of ASM era Civil War, the villain on the side of the law and the fact that Zdarsky planted the seeds for this back in issue #1 is I will admit commendable. Too bad it took until issue #4 for him and Peter to interact but whatever. I also confess that seeing the polar opposite of the Iron Dad relationship gives me life at the moment.
However given how Zdarsky’s convoluted M.O. with this book seems to be to reflect a wider real time aging Marvel Universe and not just Spider-Man’s story this characterization is fundamentally broken. Because Iron Man...was totally out of character in Civil War. Even in the main series where he was written more sympathetic he was out of character and in ASM it was truly ridiculous. So Zdarsky is again being inconsistent and terrible at characterization. He’s even being awful in how the story tries to remix elements from the 2000s era Spider-Man regarding Tony (and other stuff we’ll get to).
If you are going to factor in Peter’s unmasking and Iron Man into this story shouldn’t the once friendly relationship they had or his Avengers membership play a factor? I mean Spidey being an Avenger was such a huge deal in the 2000s that when Marvel made variant covers for his 50th anniversary showcasing something from every decade of Spidey his being an Avenger was used to represent the 2000s.
Getting back to the Civil War elements though, something mind boggling is that Iron Fist is on the pro-registration side when he was very much NOT in the real Civil War event. Making this matter worse is his best friend Luke Cage being on the anti-registration side. Even without giving anyone any lines Zdarsky srews up characterization. Compounding this is Iron Man’s claims that young heroes fell in line with the registration act...what?
Let’s ignore how bowing to the government isn’t typically what teens like to do...you telling me that the opinions of most teenage heroes was to sign up with the government? Bullshit, even in the original story their views were more mixed. There is also the implication that somehow...9/11 was the thing that prompted the SHRA...hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow??????????????????????????????
Finally Tony tells Peter he could be arrested for not registering with the government that he was a hero because...his spider sense is like insider trading.
I need to explain how stupid this is.
To begin with the SHRA wasn’t enforced when Peter was running Parker Industries so he was literally not breaking the law. If a law is passed that wearing a watch is illegal you cant go to prison because prior to that law’s passage you wore a watch.
Secondly...no....no the Spider Sense is really not like insider trading at all. Let’s presume it could warn him about dangerous business deals...that’s not insider trading at all, that’s literally Peter having better business instincts than everyone else. That’s not cheating or illegal it’s just having a natural advantage over other people.
Thirdly...Captain America is leading a resistance group....again.
This is the dumbest damn idea in the original Civil War story and for some reason even though Zdarsky wants this series to be ‘more realistic’ he replicates that stupidity.
Captain America’s plan in the original Civil War boiled down to going on the run, recruiting other superheroes, attacking the registered heroes and then....somehow this would repeal a law designed to keep heroes in check.
Let’s say that this is a more realistic world and the Registration act is totally reasonable. Putting aside how framing it as a bad thing does not then make any damn sense, Captain America’s method for fixing the problem is utterly nonsensical, especially for a guy who could be president by merely running for office. He’s Captain America for God’s sake he’d win and could repeal the law from within!
The final problem with this plotline in the issue is how it really has NOTHING to do with the other plotline, and how t weirdly hijacks the issue and becomes the main plotline when initially the book presented something else as the main thrust of the story; not the first time Zdarsky has basically superglued two plotlines together even though they have little-nothing to do with one another
That thing of course was Morlun. This opens up a whole other can of stupid we need to talk about.
So first of all Morlun shows up in 2006 not 2001, further fucking up the idea this is Spider-Man aging in real time. Morlun DID appear in a 2006 story of course, the Other, but that was his return not his debut. Why is Morlun debuting 5 years later than he should be? Because Zdarsky wants to include the most famous villain who debuted in the 2000s but actually wants to make the story about Civil War which did happen in 2006 that’s why.
Speaking of Morlun, I might be wrong here but...a fucking tree? That’s how he dies? I’m not even complaining he doesn’t come back in a clone body, I’m talking strictly about how a tree stabs him like he’s Mystique in Dark Phoenix. Maybe I’m wrong but I’m preeeetty sure he could survive that unless Life Story’s Morlun is pathetically weaker than his mainstream counterpart.*
More egregiously is Peter’s handling of Morlun. He explains Ezekiel showed up to warn him about Morlun’s coming.
In the original story these two events happened close together, Morlun appeared shortly after Ezekiel’s warning. Let’s say we let Zdarsky slide on the timeframe and even the fact that Morlun actually was looking for Ezekiel not Peter...why did Peter do nothing about this warning.
In the original story Ezekiel offers Peter a bunker to hide out in. Presumably he did the same in Life Story. But instead of taking advantage of this or warning Ben Reilly or his potentially spider empowered children Peter...ignores him?
WHY?!
Peter didn’t disbelieve Ezekiel, he just rejected his offer of sanctuary because he had responsibilities to live up to. In this story Peter has even bigger responsibilities and a family potentially at risk and he just...did nothing?
And low and behold his elderly wife and daughter have to flee for their lives whilst he dicks around in New York and his brother and son straight up DIE.
That’s 3/3 relatives named Ben who are dead because he was a selfish dickhead!
And before we dive into Peter’s character I just want to take a moment and lament how piss poorly Mary Jane has been treated this whole story.
Issue #1: She is little more than a background character
Issue #2: She is totally out of character, and just drunkenly yells unreasonably at Peter then gets unreasonably yelled at by him
Issue #3: She gets shit on by Peter, inadvertently Aunt May and is left being pregnant and giving birth to twins with a senile old health hazard for company, then gets yelled at for suggesting getting her health, then is tasked with going out alone in a dark and stormy night to potentially kill her super powered husband
Issue #4: She shows up at the end and just welcomes him back as her husband and the father of her kids no questions asked apparently
Issue #5: We continue to never get a word about how she feels about their general lives, of Peter and her reconciliation, of their children. She just waits and worries in front of the TV or runs away from Morlun. How the Hell does her daughter get more agency in this one issue than she has pretty much this whole series?
Anyway back to Peter....yeah this is not Peter Parker.
You know how Peter Parker is all about with great power there comes great responsibility....well Life Story Peter Parker totally isn’t.
He abandons his company, employees and superhero duties to an untrained, underprepared, equally old clone of himself who has to quickly learn how to pretend to be him, how to run a company and fight more experienced super villains whilst fending off a corporate takeover by the secretary of defence for the United States of America. And then he gets murdered by an indestructible (except to wood) mystic vampire that Peter neglected to mention to him.
Ben Reilly DIED directly because Peter was an idiot.
And selfish, don’t forget that. He moved his family out into the woods in a secluded area so that he wouldn’t interact with too many people and thus not feel the need to intervene. Let’s ignore how he was able to resist this urge in Spider-Girl for a moment. You are telling me Peter Parker abandoned his great responsibility by finding basically doing the equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears, closing his eyes and yelling “lalalalalala If I can’t see or hear anyone in trouble I can’t be responsible for not helping them lalalala”
FUCK OFF ZDARSKY!
This is toxically against the entire premise of the character at this point and getting older wouldn’t change that. Apparently all it took to snap him out of this funk was Ben Reilly dying and a pep talk from his friggin teenage daughter!
All in all this is another beautifully drawn shit show of an issue in a string of beautifully drawn shit show issues.
*Oh and let’s not forget that Morlun just...knows where the fuck Peter lives. That isn’t one of his powers. He needs to make contact with his target in order to track them down anywhere they go. He can’t just generally sniff them out. It doesn’t even make sense if he was tracking his kids.
Not to mention this story claims you can hurt Morlun when he’s feeding. But that’s not his weakness. Radiation is something he’s vulnerable to. If you can just kill him or the Inheritors by attacking when they are feeding then Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon wouldn’t have been as dangerous it’s not that difficult to kill them.

You mentioned piracy in a recent post and I'm curious. How do you feel about pirating things you simply don't have access to? For a very long time the anime Evangelion was not available anywhere new. Your options as a American were to either buy expensive used DVD's or pirate it. Even Crunchyroll didn't have it. Eventually a Japanese (no subtitles) blu0ray release was made, but it was costly. Finally Netflix got the rights to host it. Before that though could you fault anyone for pirating it?
Overall I’m solidly pro-pirating media because every interaction with a text comes down to the same question: Can I buy it or not? If you can buy it then you give money to the artists who rightfully deserve it and that’s fantastic. However, if you can’t buy it and abstain from engaging with the media at all you’re potentially losing more than just your own enjoyment. What does that mean? It means that:
Maybe I wasn’t able to pay to see the first film, but pirating the first got me interested in the series so now, two years later, I’m paying to see the second when I have more funds.
Maybe I wasn’t able to pay for the monthly streaming service hosting this TV show, but now that I’ve pirated it I’m buying related merch.
Maybe I wasn’t able to buy this book, but I downloaded it, told all my friends about it, wrote a positive review, and potentially set the stage for other copies to be sold.
You are, in short, functioning like a fandom: you created a thing, I love the thing, I’m going to ‘pay’ you for that thing in ways other than cash and credit.
Pirating isn’t quite the same thing as walking into a store and snatching a book off the shelf. In that scenario you’re harming the author’s potential (or expected) revenue as well as the very real costs that the store put into buying that book in the first place. When you pirate you’re only cutting into those potential profits--profits that still wouldn’t exist if you’d said, “Well I can’t pay for it so I won’t watch/read it at all.” Now, I want to emphasize that none of the above examples are a justifiable replacement for funds. There’s a reason artists on tumblr rightfully say, “No. You’re paying me for my commission. ‘Exposure’ isn’t a valid form of payment.” What I am saying is that there’s a massive difference among a) not being able to pay for a show created by a major corporation so you gain nothing and give nothing back, b) pirating that major show and giving back in the ways that you can, and c) trying to “pirate” art off of a 21yo college student who’s just looking to buy groceries. Yes, every artist deserves to be paid for their work regardless of whether they’ve sold two copies or two million, but---while a lovely and worthwhile sentiment--that doesn’t acknowledge that a lot of people just can’t. That money isn’t going to end up in the artist’s pocket regardless.
Ignoring for a moment the fact that a good chunk of us are Millennials/Gen Z and can’t pay for shit anyway, other reasons you might be inclined to pirate include:
You literally do not have access to this. At all. I’m a grad student out in Ohio. There is no way I can pay/take the time to go to NYC and see Hamilton play. I can, however, download a recording of the show and then buy the soundtrack.
Similarly, costs are not always just the cost of the media itself. My closest movie theater is a small, non-profit place that doesn’t always play the latest blockbusters. The closest AMC where I could see those blockbusters? That’s an Uber drive away. I can’t afford that on top of a $10+ ticket.
As we’re seeing now, most people can’t afford to pay a monthly fee for multiple different streaming services. The content isn’t all in one place? We’re only going to pay for a portion of the content then. Just buy cable? Distributors need to acknowledge that we’re moving away from that format too. Most people don’t want media laden with commercials anymore, or media that requires equally expensive, specialized tech to play it on. “Specialized” here meaning it only exists for entertainment. I need my laptop to do my job. Being able to watch stuff on it is a bonus, but I’d need to pay for a laptop whether it could play films and TV or not. Actual televisions though? They only exist as a form of recreation. They’re a pure luxury.
A common rebuttal here is, “Just buy the DVD.” Except, as said, I don’t own a TV. And Mac took out their DVD player in order to produce another expense by forcing people to buy it separately. Which I haven’t done yet. So not only are DVDs functionally useless to me at the moment, but it’s the same issue as above: the overall price is far more than the cost of the media alone.
Sometimes---as you point out, anon---the material is simply not available in your country. It might never be available. Maybe it will be, but that’s years from now...and telling someone to wait years to see the thing all their friends are currently invested in is not the most compelling argument.
Also yes, sometimes media stops being produced and the price skyrockets. I’ve had books I desperately wanted but they were well over $100 used for an otherwise cheap paperback. (Funds that, notably, also wouldn’t be going to that original author, editor, cover designer, etc.)
People have always had a complex and murky definition of what amount of profit is “enough” for an author. And we need to acknowledge that. Because if we all collectively believed that every individual really had to pay for their own access than we would never lend books to friends. We wouldn’t sell used. Or allow music on Youtube. Or have libraries. No one would ever share their Netflix login. We would be far more concerned with eliminating ALL forms of “free” access if we were truly that concerned with a 1:1 transaction. Whether people want to admit it or not, there’s a middle ground between “making sure an author is fairly compensated for their work” and “making sure that people have access to the media at all.”
It all comes down to how you’re defining that fair compensation and yes, I do think it makes a difference who the author is and what sort of compensation you’re offering. I buy all my books because pirating those tends to do more damage than pirating TV. Complicating that, I have a Netflix account and watch One Day At a Time there because they need ratings a whole lot more than Breaking Bad does. However, I pirate John Oliver because I can’t afford an HBO account on top of a Netflix account.
Which brings us to, “Then you shouldn’t watch John Oliver at all. That’s a privilege, not a right, and if you can’t pay for it then you don’t get it.” But here’s the thing: media is important. We do need it. We need stories, almost as much as we need food, water, and shelter. It’s easy to say, “You can’t pay for the Popular New Thing so you don’t get to engage with it” and a lot harder to convince people that they should accept that situation when they’ve found access to it another way.
You know all that research proving that when given a basic income most people still choose to work? Same principles apply. When people have access to money they will spend it on entertainment. Always. I buy books. I go out to the movies. I buy music on iTunes. I go see plays when I can. But the “when I can” portion is a complex and, for many people, rather rare scenario. I guarantee you, it’s not a dystopian future of, “If we accept piracy then no one will ever buy anything ever!” because most people want to pay artists. They want to support films like Captain Marvel. They want to buy a hardcopy book to put on their shelf. They want another copy of that film to gift to a friend. But there are times when they simply can’t do that... so what are we left with? The issue is much less a moral one than a practical one. It comes down to that original question: Can I pay for it? Most people don’t go, “I can pay for it but am choosing not to because I’m a horrible, greedy person.” They go, “I can’t pay for it so you’re not getting my money regardless. The only question now is whether I’ll lose the enjoyment of your art and you’ll lose anything that I might have given back---even if what I have to offer doesn’t mean as much to you as money.”

Anime I Really Can’t Wait To See Another Season Of
I have been following a couple anime and manga, and I am hoping we will see another few anime series pop up with another season. Here are the ones I really can’t wait to see another season of.
Chiahayafuru
Here is a bit about Chihayafuru from Wikipedia:
Chihaya Ayase is a girl who has spent most of her life simply supporting her sister in her model career. That changes when she meets a boy named Arata Wataya, a talented karuta player. After becoming friends, he believes that Chihaya has potential to become a great player. As Chihaya takes on a new dream of becoming Japan's best karuta player, she is soon separated from her karuta playing friends as they grow up. Now in high school, Chihaya is reunited with her childhood friend, Taichi Mashima. Together, they form the Mizusawa Karuta Club. With her teammates and friends supporting her, Chihaya strives to become the best karuta player in the world and to one day be with Arata again. – Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chihayafuru)
At the end of Season 2 Chihaya (the titular character) is hospitalized, found to have a nerve disorder that may stop her from playing karuta without surgery, while her other team mates have progressed to higher classes for competitive karuta. The second season ended in a giant cliff hanger in summer 2013. Finally we get to continue the anime series (even though the manga series is still in production).
A Certain Scientific Railgun
Here is a bit about A Certain Scientific Railgun from Wikipedia:
In the futuristic Academy City, which is made up of 80% students, many of whom are espers possessing unique psychic powers, Mikoto Misaka is an electromaster who is the third strongest of a mere seven espers who have been given the rank of Level 5. The series focuses on the exploits of Mikoto and her friends; Kuroko Shirai, Kazari Uiharu, and Ruiko Saten, prior to and during the events of A Certain Magical Index. – Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Certain_Scientific_Railgun)
At the end of the second season of Railgun the girls were talking about their upcoming fieldtrip to Liberal Arts City. With this series interwoven conflicts caused by the existence of magic and espers you have to know that something is going to happen, and the girls are just going to have to deal with it Academy City style.
Natsume’s Book of Friends
Here is a bit about Natsume’s Book of Friends from Wikipedia:
For as long as he can remember, Takashi Natsume has had the ability to see spirits, inheriting the power from his grandmother Reiko Natsume. This ability resulted in his having a lonely childhood because children his age considered him strange. He had also been passed from one relative to another. Upon her death, Reiko bequeathed to her grandson her Book of Friends, a book containing the names of spirits she had bullied into servitude.
The Book of Friends is considered a highly prized item in the spirit world, and spirits - both good and malicious - haunt Takashi constantly because of it. Whereas Reiko formed the contracts, however, Takashi spends his time dissolving the contracts and releasing the various spirits that come to him for help. Malicious spirits on the other hand try to kill him to obtain possession of the book. Which is where Madara (called Nyanko-sensei by Natsume) comes in; Madara serves as Natsume's bodyguard and spiritual advisor of sorts, even though ostensibly he is motivated by his own desire to possess the Book of Friends. He later begins to become more attached to Takashi. – Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natsume%27s_Book_of_Friends)
This series is a favorite of mine. I have read much of the Manga, and I have watched all six seasons and the OVAs and the movie. I am sure that the series popularity will bring about a 7th season. I really cannot wait.
One Punch Man
Re is a bit about One Punch Man from Wikipedia:
On an unnamed Earth-like super-continent planet, powerful monsters and villains have been mysteriously appearing and causing disasters. To combat them, the world's government created a Hero Association that employs superheroes to stop the violent creatures and villains. Each of the Hero Association's superheroes are ranked from Class-C to Class-S. Saitama is an unranked hero, hailing from the metropolis of City-Z, who performs heroic deeds for his own entertainment. He has trained himself to the point where he can effortlessly defeat any opponent with a single punch. However, since Saitama became a hero for the fun of the experience, he has lately become bored with his superhuman power, and frustrated at the complete lack of strong opponents that can challenge him.
Over the course of the series, Saitama encounters various superheroes, villains, and monsters. He quickly gains a pupil, the cyborg Genos, who is on a revenge quest to find another cyborg that slaughtered his entire family and hometown. Eventually the two join the Hero Association in order to gain official recognition. Genos proves to be a prodigy and is instantly placed in Class-S, while Saitama barely passes the written test and is therefore placed in Class-C, making him the lowest ranked hero. Saitama performs many feats that go mostly unnoticed and unappreciated by the public, such as defeating the ninja Speed of Sound Sonic and destroying an incoming meteor that was going to obliterate City-Z. Saitama is promoted to Class-B after he defeats the powerful Deep Sea King, who reigns destruction on City-J. Monsters begin to appear in City-Z, searching for a mysterious Monster Association. Soon after, the great seer Shibabawa has a vision that the world is in danger. Panicking, the Hero Association calls all S-Class heroes to a meeting, begging them to protect the world. Immediately after the meeting, the leader of the Dark Matter Thieves, Boros, invades the planet and destroys City-A. Saitama duels with Boros and defeats him by using a serious punch. During the invasion of aliens, the S-Class hero, Drive Knight, warns Genos that the S-Class hero, Metal Knight, is his enemy. The Hero Association salvages City-A with the help of Metal Knight, and they build a new base of operations that will allow the Hero Association to deploy heroes more easily.
Saitama begins to gradually know other superheroes. He quickly becomes friends with the old martial arts master, Bang, and the "most powerful" superhero named, King, who is actually a cowardly nonviolent otaku who got his S-Class position by accidentally receiving credit for many of Saitama's previous victories. When the Hero Association executive Sitch tries to recruit villains to become superheroes, Bang's former apprentice, Garo, emerges and starts beating down many of the other heroes, prompting the association to make a small effort to stop him.
In order to learn more about martial arts, Saitama enters a tournament in disguise. During the martial arts tournament, the Monster Association leads an all-out attack on multiple cities causing massive panic and damage. The Hero Association struggles to keep up with the attacks. Genos fights monsters and protects the tournament so that Saitama can safely compete. Despite being the most powerful hero in the world, Saitama automatically loses the tournament due to being caught wearing a wig and impersonating another martial artist, Charanko. Saitama flees the tournament in fear of being arrested by the police. During the award ceremony, the powerful monster, Gouketsu, lays siege on the tournament after defeating Genos in combat. Gouketsu presents monster cells that can turn humans into monsters after being ingested to the people of the stadium, telling them that he'll kill them if they don't ingest the cells. Some people partake of the cells becoming monsters, including the martial artist, Bakuzan. Saitama returns to the stadium after hearing explosions and the winner of the tournament, Suiryu's desperate cries for help. Saitama defeats Gouketsu and Bakuzan before they can slaughter innocent people. Saitama humbles Suiryu and inspires the cocky martial artist to become a hero.
The B-Class hero, Fubuki, tries to have Saitama join her faction of heroes. Garo, determined to become the most powerful monster, continues to grow stronger and stronger and hunts more heroes down including S-Class heroes, Tank-Top Master and Metal Bat. The Hero Association ranks him at a threat of "Dragon" level, the second highest that is possible. They fail to capture him after sending a team of A-Class heroes to stop him. Bang confronts Garo and almost kills him, but the Monster Association rescues him at the last second to try and recruit him. The Monsters continue to attack people and continue to gather in City-Z, being led by the powerful psychic, Gyoro Gyoro, and the monster king, Orochi. Garo refuses to join the Monster Association and continues to defeat heroes. Meanwhile, the Hero Association leads an all out war against the Monster Association with hundreds of heroes, after the monsters kidnap the child of a high ranking contributor to the Hero Association. A new association known as, The Organization, consisting of powerful robots, allies itself with the Monster Association by sending robots such as G5 to help in the war. – Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-Punch_Man)
One Punch Man is the like the ultimate super hero. His battles are pointlessly effortless, and he defeats his enemies in just one punch usually ending the villain and destroying the stuff around him. The series isn’t about whether Saitama can defeat the villain, but how Saitama lives his day to day life, and the story of how he goes from being a loner hero to be a misunderstood member of the hero association. While dealing with the so called heroes who want him to look bad and making friends with other real heroes. The first season was amazing, and the second season should also be great.
Conclusion
Chihayafuru, and OnePunch Man will be released this summer, and A Certain Scientific Railgun Season 3 will be released sometime in 2019 … probably after the current season of A Certain Magical Index season 3. As for Natsume’s Book of Friends, Season 7 has not been announced yet, but with the popularity of the series I am sure it will show up sooner or later.

If you're still doing headcannons, first four protagonist of silent hill series? Plus Claudia and Eileen if you want. Thanks!
OH MAN THAT’S A LOT but let’s do this.Headcanon A: Harry Mason was a practicing Christian prior to the events of Silent Hill– after, he spent a number of years struggling to reconcile his faith with everything that he’d witnessed. Eventually, he somewhat made peace with it, but it was never fully the same afterwards.Headcanon B: Harry was a nonfiction/true crime author prior to Silent Hill. Then, in an attempt to cope, he wrote one horror novel under a pseudonym, never intending to write another one. Just one. NATURALLY It was a massive hit and publishing houses proceeded to bother him incessantly to do more like it. He occasionally would joke to Heather that half the reason they changed names and kept moving around was to make it harder for his agent to harass him.Headcanon C: Harry frequently read to Heather as a child, and the most frequent choice was Watership Down. Harry always made a point of placing EXTRA special emphasis on the creation myth, and Frith’s instructions for El-ah-rairah: “All the world shall be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first, they must catch you. Digger, listener, runner, Prince with a swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks. And your people shall never die.”It was his way of, without frightening her, trying to prepare her for the certain inevitability that the Order was going to catch up with them eventually.
Headcanon A: James has a very, very hard time interpreting and responding to social cues. Getting confused or defensive when misinterpreted is part of the reason he comes off as ‘surly’– it’s easier to come off as antisocial than face anger or ridicule after saying something unintentionally rude, which happened A Lot ™ when he was growing up.Headcanon B: A defining moment in his and Mary’s early relationship was him finally telling her about his dad’s creepy umbilical-cord box and them going “OH MY GOD?!” “I KNOW!!” about it back and forth for a solid ten minutes while sitting in a parked car.Headcanon C: Before Mary got sick, James was over-the-moon excited about being a father someday. They both took it for granted that it was definitely going to happen. Spoilers: it didn’t.
Headcanon A: As much as Heather always loved her father, as a teenager she started to resent his smothering, overprotective tendencies (as well as the fact that they constantly moved around) and started openly acting out– smoking, drinking, shoplifting, partying, and getting in fights. Headcanon B:  On at least one occasion after Silent Hill 3, Heather scared the shit out of some poor door-to-door religious pamphlet people by wrenching the door open with her rifle in hand and yelling “I KILLED YOUR GOD!”Headcanon C: Sometimes really late at night when she’s drinking alone, Heather thinks really hard about the fact that by not killing her in infancy and instead raising her like any other child, Harry was literally gambling with the fate of the world. Really, really hard.
Headcanon A: Henry was the youngest in a large, rich family. His quiet, anxious nature meant he was constantly overlooked and all of his siblings went on to have important, high-income careers, he… went to art school, dropped out, and moved off to the east coast to get away from the constant pressure and quiet judgment. Headcanon B: Henry may hate socializing, but one of his favorite ways to make time spent in public places bearable is by standing quietly in the background of other peoples’ photos at every opportunity and looking directly at the camera.Headcanon C: The events of SH4 effectively cured the severest of Henry’s agoraphobia… at the cost of sending him to the complete opposite end of the spectrum. For several weeks after first leaving the apartment complex, Henry was actively terrified of entering ANY buildings and spent more than one night literally sleeping on the streets.
Headcanon A: Claudia suffers from trichotillomania, a nervous disorder that causes a person to compulsively pluck out their own hair. This is why she doesn’t have eyebrows.Headcanon B: Claudia met with Douglas on a number of occasions before he was actually able to locate Heather, and had to leave Silent Hill to do so. But she has no driver’s license and certainly nobody to get a ride from. So please, if you will, imagine being the unfortunate public transit passenger stuck sitting across from a tall scary woman with no eyebrows, no shoes, and no sense of how long is too long to be maintaining direct eye contact.Headcanon C: As very young children, Vincent (then a preschooler) really latched on to the early-elementary-school-age Claudia, sometimes even following her straight past his own house on the walk home from school– which usually prompted an exasperated cry of “GO HOME, VINCENT!” from Claudia. If you don’t think this is sad, please recall the other time that she says those words to him.
Headcanon A: Eileen waffled between a lot of potential career choices before eventually deciding to pursue becoming a conflict resolution specialist, thanks to her ability to get along with virtually anybody (like, come on, she even gets along with RICHARD).Headcanon B: Out of the entire cast of protagonists, Eileen is the most terrifying and willing fighter out of them all. It doesn’t matter how scary you are– try and mug Eileen and she’ll come at you.Headcanon C: Prior to SH4, Eileen would have described herself as seeing the best in everybody and trusting easily. Needless to say, that’s not the case anymore– and she has a really hard time not hating herself for no longer being the bubbly, open-hearted person she used to be.

His books and blog focus on self-development, travel, and lifestyle (microbusiness) entrepreneurship. The Book’s Main Idea“This book is for those who take action and those who provide the inspiration.”Chris GuillebeauThe $100 Startup is a business-centric book whose aim is to help prospective entrepreneurs become aware of the challenges that come with creating a successful small business that generates enough revenue to allow the entrepreneur to escape the 9-5 rat race and start living a ‘rich’ life.“The new reality is that working at a job may be the far riskier choice.”Chris GuillebeauA look at the main ideas shared in the bookThe book shares the following main ideas:1: Passion + good business sense is the magic formula“The missing piece is that you usually don’t get paid for your hobby itself; you get paid for helping other people pursue the hobby or for something indirectly related to it.”Chris GuillebeauThe secret to all success is simple really: capitalize on your passions but do so with good business sense by looking into how you can turn your skills (or passion) into a workable and successful product/or service.Aim to strike what Chris calls convergence, a state where your skills or passions are valuable in the sense that they intersect with the things/elements other people find useful. If you can strike this convergence and from it, package your passion/skills into a service or product a specific audience would find invaluably useful—in that it serves a purpose such as helping solve a problem—you will create a successful business because:“Passion or Skill + Usefulness = SuccessOr“(PASSION + SKILL) –> (PROBLEM + MARKETING) = OPPORTUNITY”Chris GuillebeauFor someone starting out in entrepreneurship—perhaps starting with $100 or less—to aim for this convergence, ask yourself, “Which skills or passions can I package into a valuable service,” or “what am I good at that I can offer to a ready audience?”“Ask three questions for every idea: a. How would I get paid with this idea? b. How much would I get paid from this idea? c. Is there a way I could get paid more than once?”Chris Guillebeau2: Where great business ideas come fromIf you have ever wondered where great ideas come from, Chris offers invaluable insight. He notes, “Great ideas are everywhere. They are seized opportunities from an emerging technology, or a solution to a hidden or glaring problem.”To find a great business idea, aim for convergence of your passion and what is useful to others, but also cultivate a deep understanding of your target audience not based on conventional targeting wisdom—targeting audiences based on age, gender, income, etc.—but based on what matters the most to the people you intend to serve:"What do people really, really want? At the end of the day, they want to be happy, and businesses that help their customers be happy are well-positioned to succeed."Chris Guillebeau3: Your success depends on the actions you takeSuccess—business or otherwise—is not that complicated really. All you truly need to do is take action; yes, spend time planning—because failing to plan is planning to fail—but more importantly, spend more time acting. This is the secret to small business success."There's nothing wrong with planning. But you can spend a lifetime making a plan that never turns into action. In the battle between planning and action, action wins."Chris GuillebeauWe are fortunate enough to live in an age where all the information we could ever need to succeed in our lives and businesses is readily available to us. At the click of a button, you can test business ideas, launch a microbusiness, and grow it into a thriving business. Without action, however, creating any sort of business success is impossible because:“Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.”Chris GuillebeauBeing an entrepreneur or microbusiness owner calls for what Chris calls, “planning as you go” or “bias towards action.” This means finding that convergence and then getting started with implementing your idea right away by creating and launching a prototype of your product/service. With the product/service in play, you can “learn and plan as you go” and scale your business.ConclusionAll business success comes from action taken at the right time. As long as you can create something a specific audience will find valuable, you can create a low-startup cost business around it.

Why?? I'm going to buy the very first car for me (a mazda 3 hatchpack 2006 or 2008..) and I want it to be new cause I can afford any price. But my dad keeps telling me not to buy a new car cause i won't be having good bennefits from it..such as the car insurance. It will be higher than a second hand car's...around 1000 euros every year. Also the car insurance must be full if it's a new car and I should have it on 1/3 cause its cheaper. So if it's a new car I can't have it on 1/3. What do you think I should do? Help deciding which sporty car or convertible?
I want a convertible or sporty car and am on a budget of $20,000. so I've got a few options that I have been considering. New Mazda Miata-I have heard great things about Miatas, the one thing I'm worried about is it maybe feeling a bit underpowered, although I am coming from a 2008 Honda civic sedan. how do those compare? Used Porsche Boxster-this would solve the potential underpowered problem of the miata, however I have heard a mixed bag of responses regarding the reliability of these, and I know that any repairs that are needed will be absurdly expensive. Used Honda S2000-this car seems great, the things that worry me are possibly a lack of low end torque, and I have never driven a manual before, and the other options can be found as automatics. Volkswagen GTI or Golf TDI-these seem like excellent cars, but the one downside is the lack of convertible top-I really like that open road feeling Mini Cooper S-This is sporty and can be a convertible, but I've heard bad things regarding reliability and parts/maintenance costs, also the interior seems to be disliked by alot of people. other pertinent info- I live in the Sacramento area, so weather problems shouldn't be as significant. How do the insurance costs compare of these 3? I'm 18 but have a clean driving record, good grades, etc Does anyone know how the fuel economy of these cars compare from experience? I know the EPA estimates, but real world mileage is different, especially because I'm an enthusiastic driver (I only get about 26mpg in my civic) One of the main things I want to know is how these will drive compared to each other and my current civic. I just hit a car. how much will the damage cost?
I was driving out of a parking garage and took a turn too tight and my door scraped a parked car's bumper. it scraped the paint on the left side of their bumper-about the size of a football. it looks like it can be buffed out. but on the top of the scraped part there is a broken part about the length of my forearm-not broken exactly, it is a length of spiderweb-cracks in the plastic. The car is a small black one but i dont know the make. i left a note in their windshield with my number on it. i want to pay for the damage myself so my insurance doesnt go up. does anyone have an estimate on how much this will cost?""

How does car insurance work when making a claim?
What happens when a claim is made after an accident? If a car is written off how much does this insurance company pay? If a car is repaired by the insurance company what happens then? I guess they pay for the damage, but do they pay any extra? If the car is repaired then the value of the car will drop, therefore leaving the driver out of pocket even though the damage was not the drivers fault. How does it work? Cheers""
Will one violation make my insurance go up?
The other day I failed to see a no right turn on red sign posted above an intersection. My right turn on the red light was safe, no cars were coming, and the car in front of me did the same thing, which I copied. A police motorcycle was parked waiting down the road, expressly for watching this, and pulled over the car in front of me, myself, and the driver behind me, who did the same thing. I have a clean DMV record. The fine is $170. I could elect to go to traffic school for an additional $150 so the violation won't be on my DMV record, but with my schedule, it will be hard finding the time for this, and I think the $170 fine is bad enough. My auto insurance is my only concern. How likely is it they'll raise my premiums (2 vehicles) with only one violation on my record? Also, how long does the violation stay on my DMV record (California). Thanks!""
What kind of insurance do I need?
I know nothing about insurance and this past year I've had a few problems which I paid straight out of my pocket. Needless to say it sucked horribly, thankfully my parents were generous enough to help me :) I now need insurance and its almost March 31st. I have a bad habit of procrastinating haha. So I know NOTHING about how insurance works etc. What is Obama care? healthcare.gov? medicaid? covered california? (I live in LA) I dont need Health Care (healthcare.gov) to get insurance like Blue Cross or Anthem right? Why are people paying for healthcare PLUS whatever insurance agency they get like Blue Cross. I currently have NO income, and I havent worked for a year so no taxes lol. I know health care helps with something that involves taxes. I'd like to get insurance and I heard that Medicaid is good for people with no income, but I'm going to have a small income soon. Do I need to contact healthcare.gov or medicaid or coveredca to get insurance with Blue Cross? What do you folks recommend? HELP!!!!! What is the March 31st deadline for? Do I just need to apply by then? And is that deadline for just healthcare/medicaid/coveredca or is it for the actual insurance company like Blue Cross? I'm so confused... Btw, I'm male, 23, live in Cali, currently no income. Thanks folks! :D""
Car insurance stuff i don't understand.?
Hello everyone, I am an international student who's been in the USA (Buffalo, NY) for the past 2 years working hard on my masters (i'm 25 now). I bought a POS Saturn last year for 2000 dollars and, well, for that i needed to get car insurance since it's mandatory in this country. Since i was from abroad and i had a learner's permit at the time, i had to get insurance with my international license. Progressive was my only choice so i paid around 700$ for 6 months. That's the rate I've been paying for the last year. Unfortunately, i just don't have the money anymore to pay 700 more dollars for the next 6 months. I tried different insurance companies but they are all around the same range. Apparently, i was stupid enough to not get a credit card as soon as i landed in this country. I was raised with the if you don't have money, don't spend it philosophy so i just used my debit card. This is the only reason that i can see for these absurd rates. Every single one of my friends ( all international students ) pay around 200-250/six months dollars for their pieces of crap cars. I just feel like i'm not being given a fair deal. Not having any credit might put a penalty on me, i understand somewhat how a capitalist mind works... let's say about 100-150 more dollars for 6 months, but a whopping 500 $ ? Don't you think it's kind of messed up that first of all it's mandatory, and then there's no baseline to at least make sure that noone gets ripped off. Is there any way that a person can inquire why he is being charged so much(instead of the bs the agents tell you i.e your area is bad etc.)? Or are you at the mercy of these people?""

Should I notify my car insurance company if I paid for the fix myself?
I had a minor car accident in a Costco parking lot last weekend. I was backing out my parking lot; the other guy was also backing out. Unfortunately, we didn't see each other... Anyway, this seems to be a 50-50 accident. The damage to the cars are moderate and we agreed on just fixing ourselves. So no personal information was exchanged. I got an estimate today. The cost for fixing my car is not cheap but still lower than the minimal requirement for accident reporting in California. It is also lower than my insurance deductible. So I plan neither to report to DMV nor to file a claim. But one friend of mine suggested that in this case, I should still notify (but not to file a claim to) my insurance company. His argument is that the other party can still come back and sue me (if he is a freak). While we didn't exchange information, the other party may have remembered my license plate number so theoretically he could find out all other information about me. But I am not sure if notifying the insurance company will affect my premiums. What do you think?""
Motorcycle provisional licence insurance costs?

My car insurance company rang me two weeks ago asking to update my details. I was previously registered as a student and unemployed but changed this to working part time as an admin assistant. Now they told me that they will be sending me the bill to pay off the new increased premium. Can anyone help me confirm whether insurance companies can do this? Car accident with no insurance?
I was stopped at a red light behind two cars. Both cars started to go and so did I the next thing I knew I had hit the car in front of me. The car in front of me hit the car in front of him. We all pulled over my car isnt to bad but I drive a suburban, the car in front of me was a smaller car so his looked a little worse. Nobody was hurt, and all cars were drivable, so we decided to not call the police we just all exchanged information. After we had finished and they left I immediately called my insurance lady to let her know what happened. I am not super clear on this next part, we have been going back and forth with our insurance since that call and will continue to fight it. When I called the insurance lady she said I wasnt covered. She said that they had received the last payment much later than it was due (not sure how because it was mailed the same time as always) but because of that our insurance had been cancelled. A couple of weeks ago they had chased our check, she said we were reinstated as of yesterday (the day of the accident) but because it was the same day they werent liable to pay the damages. We are going to keep fighting them because I dont think its fair. Even if they decide that they wont pay we can afford to just pay for the damages to the rear end of the car in front of us, because know matter what happened I am at fault for following to close. We cant afford to pay out of our pocket also for his front end and the rear end of the first car. Shouldnt those damages be covered by the car I hit because he was obviously following to close to the car in front of him? Im a little freaked out with all this, this is the first accident I have ever been in and we have always had insurance, so we thought. The insurance company did say they mailed us a cancellation notice but if they did we have never received one.""

Amazon HQ2 in Denver? Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter and Facebook – Denver Business Journal
News today that Denver has made Amazon.com Inc.’s short list of 20 cities that may soon be the site of "HQ2" has social media abuzz.
Companies, politicians and especially Colorado residents have a lot to say about the issue.
"Colorado is one of the most business-friendly states in America and we believe the Denver region would be a great choice for Amazon’s second location!" said Gov. John Hickenlooper on Twitter.
But many people expressed concern about the soaring cost of housing here and the infrastructure and transportation issue plaguing the city as it continues to grow.
We compiled a list of some of the comments appearing on Twitter and Facebook about the announcement. (Editor’s note: Names and comments are published as they appear on Twitter and Facebook).
TWITTER
Gov. John Hickenlooper, @GovofCo
It’s great to be on Amazon’s list of finalists as they consider the location of their second headquarters.
Alex Bitz, @alexbitz
The only reason I like this is because our home values and the rent you can charge will go up. I better get packages faster than Jimmy John’s.
T.T. McQueen EM @ttm1976
Nashville is the booming American city. Growing 100 people a day. Look at all the business HQ who have moved here for the tax base.
Ed Zaleski, @zaleski_ed
Short list? 20? I was thinking you’d say top 5.
Lisa Compo, @compolisa1
At what cost to the tax payers?
Rocky Mountain Arts Association – RMAA, @RMAA5280
We’re not going to lie, We’re kinda good with it.
Lan DeNunzio, @lan_denunzio
If you have to ask State and Local government tax breaks for life; it should make people question Amazon net worth.
Tara S. Bostick, @TaraSBostick1
How is this great when it’s said that if Amazon moves to Colorado, the cost of living is going to go sky high and people, even some of the ones who come with Amazon, will financially struggle the whole time?! This is not good!! This is pure greed!!
Missliberties, @missliberties
NO! This state is crowded enough. Home prices are too expensive already. Because of that my property taxes and my car insurance have skyrocketed.
No THANKS to Amazon. Go somewhere else.

Considering we will not give up $1B in incentives like other Socialist states, like Texas, we will not be getting it. We are only going to pony up $10M. Missed it by "00" that much.
Michael M.
I suspect that by the time they are able to start hiring, we will be in an economic downturn, so it could be a good thing. Just because we are experiencing a strong economy and unaffordable housing costs today, doesn’t mean we will be in 2 years when the headquarters is complete. Denver has a lot to offer in the way of lifestyle and access to distribution and travel, but the technical labor pool is thin. Most of the employees would need to come from out of state.
Jeremy M.
The downside is that people want to keep moving here and apartment rents will continue to skyrocket! I’m trying to save up to move into an apartment and it’s just so hard because the rents are ridiculous as it is! It’s simple supply and demand. The more demand and less the supply there is, the higher the prices go!
A ton of people have already moved here ever since we stupidly legalized marijuana, so I definitely don’t want the Amazon headquarters here cuz even more people will move here and I’m just done with it!
Stacey C.
Terrible! The only way it would be good for the state is if they build it out east of the airport. That way people on the eastern plains have another option for employment.
Whitney M.
Legitimate question: does this additional headquarters aid in improving our roads and general infrastructure? Like, is there a kickback or something? Because our roads aren’t equipped to withstand what we have now, but add in more people and we’re in trouble. Additionally, what about other issues such as water, sewage, power? Or median income/condo housing? We have apartments and homes, but a substantial lack of ‘starter homes’ or condos due to construction defects laws. Good opportunity in theory, but in reality, is this not just more fuel to the fire on all of our existing issues?
William L.
We absolutely need a new Amazon headquarters in Denver! 10,000 new high paying jobs, averaging 100,000. Billions in investment for the city to help offset growth. A strong padding against economic downturns for the city. A lot of taxes.
Justin L.
The Front Range needs to address the issues they have now. It’s starting to fit those needs for those who are living here now, and the migration to and from the state is starting to move in both directions. A Big Bang population growth would not be good. Affordable housing needs to be rectified, along with homelessness, water issues, and roads. The economy here is doing great, and Amazon has a big presence in the area already. I know I’m not a “native” but I have lived here for 7 years and made sure to contribute without leaving any of my NC handprints all over. I think Atlanta and Amazon, or Austin, would be a great fit.
Ryan D.
I feel like traffic just got worse and rent went up. Amazon is bringing people here but not with higher salaries than anyone else. It will just add to the congestion problems we already have in Denver.
Jeff C.
Denver is not going to get it!!!! No huge, sane business would relocate to a city with massive housing shortage and high rents. Pueblo maybe… not Denver…
Rianna R.
Noooooooooo. Maybe in 5 to 10 years when we have figured out how to deal with this massive growth spurt better, but right now I think Denver needs to take a minute.
Zachary A.
They have already built a massive warehouse on the north side of town. The headquarters coming here wouldn’t change much.
Michael B.
Well, that’s depressing. We already can’t handle the overcrowding issues and the congestion issues that we have today. Bringing in thousands and thousands of more people is only going to make an already bad situation much, much worse. Cross your fingers and hope they pick another city.
Deborah N.
Hope they choose someplace else. Traffic is bad enough.

(Crypto Mastery + Marketing & Affiliate Mastery + Instagram Mastery)
Millionaire Mafia Instagram Mastery $597
Millionaire Mafia Crypto Mastery $147
Millionaire Mafia Marketing & Affiliate Mastery $697
It started back in 2012, when I graduated high school.
I made a big decision to not chase after a 4 year degree and $50K in student loans only to land a 9 to 5 for $10/hour while making someone else rich.
I dedicated the next several years of my life to reading, learning, innovating, becoming an entrepreneur, and pushing the limits anywhere people told me that it would be impossible.
I realized early on that there were hundreds of skills that are not learned in college.
I realized that if I wanted to have a massive amount of income, a better quality of life, and the ability to do what I wanted, where I wanted, with who I wanted, whenever I wanted that I would need to be my own boss.
I knew I had to master these skills that couldn’t be taught in any university or by any teacher.
And I also knew that NO ONE was teaching ANYONE these skills…
I would have to create them
And I have to say, thanks to not being a victim to the system I have found myself debt free, travelling the world, and making hundreds of thousands of dollars per year…

Samsung Galaxy C7 Seasoned India Release Predicted Today
Samsung India is all set to Launch a product in New Delhi on Friday, with the enterprise sending invitations for a 12 pm event in advance this week. Even as Samsung did not element what it’ll be launching, the company is Expected to Release the Galaxy C7 Seasoned or the Galaxy C5 Seasoned smartphone within the united states.
The South Korean massive in its occasion invite makes use of the tagline “Lean Is the brand new Imply”. This unluckily is not sufficient indication about what’s being launched, but, the two Galaxy C-series smartphones referred to are simply 7mm thick – giving some credence to the hypothesis. The Galaxy C7 Pro changed into released in China in January this yr, Whilst the Galaxy C5 Pro became launched in China very lately – in March. As a result, it seems probably Samsung will Release the Galaxy C7 Pro in the united states.
The dual-SIM (Nano-SIM) Samsung Galaxy C7 Seasoned is priced at CNY 2,899 (roughly Rs. 27, one hundred) in China. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and features a five.7-inch 1080p Exquisite AMOLED display. The telephone is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. The Galaxy C7 Seasoned functions a sixteen-megapixel sensor on each the front and back with f/1.9 aperture. The cameras are capable of recording complete-HD videos at 30 frames in keeping with 2nd. The handset is offered with 64GB of the n-built garage, which is expandable via microSD card (as much as 256GB) in a hybrid twin-SIM configuration.
The cellphone measures 156.5×77.2×7.0mm and weighs 172 grams. The cellphone packs a 3300mAh battery. Moreover, the Galaxy C7 Pro comes with Continually-on display and Samsung Pay.
Evaluating The Samsung Galaxy S2 With The Samsung Galaxy Nexus
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is some of the maximum famous Android smartphones of all time, and truly the most a success smartphone for Samsung. but, this isn’t always their highest spec handset. Together with the Galaxy Word, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has the best specifications when it comes to numerous of its features. In this newsletter I can evaluate some key functions of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus so you can decide that is the better smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus changed into a collaboration among Samsung and Google to exhibit the state-of-the-art v4.0 of Android, dubbed ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. The Samsung Galaxy S2 however ships with the preceding ‘Gingerbread’ version established. The Galaxy S2 supports an replace to the new version of the software, however because the Nexus changed into the first smartphone to have this version as fashionable, Samsung ensured it has the hardware to do the job.
The display screen is arguably the crowning characteristic of the Galaxy Nexus. Even to nowadays, it has one of the highest resolutions of any phone. At 720x 1280, it is simplest now being matched through more moderen phones. This offers it the capacity to display HD movies in addition to photos and video games it top excellent. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a qHD display resolution (480x 800), which although brilliant, continues to be ay short of that of the Galaxy Nexus.
In all likelihood the most disappointing function of the Nexus (on paper as a minimum) is its digicam. With a decision of 5 megapixels, it’s far under what you’ll assume from a phone with a today’s working machine and excessive definition screen. Despite its seemingly low resolution, the digicam continues to be able to seize video pictures in 1080p excessive definition, which is a feature shared with the Samsung Galaxy S2, even though this is to be Predicted as the tool has an 8 megapixel digicam.
each handsets are matched on several capabilities; they both have a 1.2GHz dual-center processor, so that you can count on exquisite overall performance from both gadgets. Similarly mind-blowing is their statistics down load speeds when surfing the internet over a g3 connection; at 21 megabytes according to second, they are a number of the quickest web browsing phones to be had.
The Galaxy S2 turned into launched in April 2011, whereas the Galaxy Nexus hit the market in November 2011. By the time the Galaxy Nexus changed into released, momentum had already picked up in income of the Galaxy S2, and is the reason why the Galaxy Nexus became now not as successful, Notwithstanding numerous greater appealing specs. each handsets are top notch in their very own rights although, and whichever you select you’re not going to be disappointed. In case you are in the market for a Samsung telephone even though, it may be worth waiting a touch longer, as their brand new flagship is due for launch later this 12 months. The Galaxy S3 is rumoured to game a 12 megapixel camera and quad-core processor among its key functions and appears set to be certainly one of the largest tech releases of 2012.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Opinions
Before you decide which Samsung tablet you want, you need to study at least one good Samsung Galaxy overview. in relation to the world of capsules, there are few businesses that have gotten a higher reputation for handing over exceptional goods than Samsung. however, the Samsung Galaxy pill, which has a ten.1 inch display, does not come with out a pretty hefty rate tag. At round $500 on Amazon, the Samsung Galaxy overview you read have to provide an explanation for why it is really worth each penny, in any other case you might end up with a product that you don’t actually need.
one of the high-quality perks to the Samsung tablet is that it’s far designed to be rapid. Many pills which are currently in the marketplace don’t have an excessive amount of in phrases of velocity and storage, and as a end result, lag. With a dual middle processor, and 1 GB of RAM, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with across the identical amount of energy as a netbook, or a low stop computer. maximum capsules on the market don’t have that amount of electricity, and therefore cannot run maximum of the films, track, and applications that the Samsung Galaxy is able to walking. At the side of the speed that allows you to observe streaming films on-line, the Samsung Galaxy also comes like minded with Flash participant. Apple doesn’t actually have this capability.
it is often stated, whether or not in a Galaxy evaluate, or in an Apple iPad evaluation, that no pill Pc is right while not having WiFi competencies. presently, the Galaxy helps 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, and is also Bluetooth well suited. Surfing the net won’t ever be a hassle with the Galaxy. People who’ve used a Samsung Galaxy tablet tend to be amazed at how rapid, how fluid Surfing the net can be. Considering how powerful the processor is, it surely shouldn’t be that a good deal of a marvel.
The Galaxy is an Android-powered tablet, and comes with full access to the Android market. As one of the great pills available on the market, the Galaxy comes fully well suited with Phrase, Excel, get entry to, and lots of different popular media codecs. This OS is specifically designed with multitasking in mind, because of this that you may surf the net Whilst going for walks song on the equal time. The Android Apps market is massive – 200,000 one-of-a-kind apps are to be had for buy, so you will be capable of locate something which you revel in with out too much worry. 32 GB of garage also approach that there might be extra than sufficient area to keep all of your apps without having to add a unique SD card for extra space.
The design is what typically is cited first in most Galaxy Critiques, however it is normally a great concept to save the high-quality for final. So far, the Galaxy has acquired many accolades for its sleek, lightweight design. It has even been in comparison to the iPad. It comes with a built in high definition digicam that may record video, take pics, and be used in video chat. Along with a the front going through digicam, the Galaxy additionally comes with a again-facing camera, that’s perfect for catching unique moments.
Visuals are the first-rate part of the Galaxy’s design. The high decision display screen has drawn compliments from even the most choosy of pill proprietors. At a 1280 by way of 800 pixel in keeping with square inch decision, that is one tablet that is very hard to conquer in terms of excessive definition pics. The excessive decision display makes the 2 and 3 megapixel cameras even greater useful. In spite of everything, being capable of proportion the minute info of a image can most effective be done with high decision screens. it is very difficult to find a 9aaf3f374c58e8c9dcdd1ebf10256fa5 Samsung Galaxy evaluate, or any Samsung Galaxy Critiques in any respect, which do not have some thing wonderful to mention approximately the display’s decision.
Many Humans presently say that the Samsung is one of the nice capsules available on the market. Its amazing layout, effective processing, ample garage, and ultra-modern Android operating gadget sincerely recommend that the Samsung Galaxy Evaluations that say it is the first-rate in the marketplace might be right. Modern and edgy, the Galaxy is one of the very few drugs on the market that does not appear to have any proceedings approximately it. Take the advice from this Galaxy overview – the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a ought to have!
We do the research, you make the choice!honestly hope that the facts provided on this website online will assist you to make an knowledgeable shopping for selection whether or not you are seeking out. Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, Samsung galaxy. Ii or an Samsung galaxy tab 7. With such a lot of unique models and styles of pill to be had it is very perplexing to understand what is ideal and what is junk.

A (long) introduction
Hi, I know this is a long read, I hope it’s worth it.
I should give you a bit of my backstory, my childhood wasn’t exactly easy. Between my dad moving half way around the world, my mum getting remarried to an abusive alcoholic, having to help raise two disabled half-sisters, multiple deaths of close family members, moving every other year thanks to a military upbringing, my sister’s teenage pregnancy, my teenage self-harm… (the list goes on), life had its challenges. I hadn’t exactly had any positive relationships to aspire to, but I knew I didn’t want to end up like my mother. Without negatively portraying her (she gave us a lot of freedom other parents wouldn’t and had her moments) she was not financially responsible or the best decision maker. Some of her decisions wouldn’t work out for the best, for example; spontaneously moving to London as a gesture to her boyfriend, but living in a car for two weeks because she hadn’t thought to find a house first. Another black mark against me was my social awkwardness, not helped by the constant military moving life. I was quick to fall into social groups at new schools, but I was never someone’s best friend. I was often thought of as someone’s sidekick. And the friendships I did make were only superficial as they only had to last until I moved again.
Fast forward to when I was 23, I had pretty much given up. After having one serious relationship at the age of 17, nothing had come close since. I was failing miserably at my job, living back at home after the shock of my youngest sister’s sudden death, and had three pets – two cats and a puppy. I had no social life as my friends from University lived hours away, and the friends that did live nearby were often on opposite shift patterns to me. My days were spent binge watching TV shows on Netflix, snacking on whatever was in the cupboard, and getting out for half an hour to walk the dog. I would occasionally open the dating apps on my phone and look at the guys with discontent. My self-esteem was non-existent and even if an attractive man had messaged me something that wasn’t bordering on creepy, I didn’t feel confident enough to message back.
In contrast to this, my brother and sister were both happy with their partners, had two children each and both had bought a house. Out of my 4 best friends from University, B had just bought a house with their partner, C was planning their wedding and had bought a house, G was planning her wedding, and S was newly single and loving it, going on multiple dates, and to top it off, every one of them were succeeding in their jobs and had career aspirations. Although I felt alone, and often compared my single existence to that of everyone who surrounded me, I knew I didn’t need a relationship to be happy. I could survive on my own, my whole future was planned around being alone. But I was questioning my job, did I hate my career or just where I worked? Did I want to change career or just ward? If I did change career – how would a lower salary cover my monthly financial commitments? I didn’t know what to do. I felt stuck. I wanted to explore other career options, but didn’t have any experience outside of my current area of employment and wouldn’t get a good reference from my current employer. I couldn’t go back to University as I couldn’t get funding for another undergraduate degree, and paying it myself was impossible.
I was exhausted and it was taking a toll, mentally and physically. I was tired all the time, my eyes constantly felt heavy. I wasn’t eating properly, I was emotional and snapped at those around me. I felt like I was having to drag myself around. I didn’t know what I wanted. I aspired to travel, so I spent a week in Slovenia where I met a fellow Englishman and joined him on a road trip to Prague. I went paragliding, tried to be spontaneous, but I missed home. So maybe travelling wasn’t for me? After getting my cats and puppy, I wanted to work with animals but that meant going back to college and starting again.
I wanted to be everything and anything. I fantasised about being a Manhattan it girl like Serena Van Der Woodsen from Gossip Girls, a wealthy country girl taking the dogs for a walk in her Barbour jacket and Hunter wellies, a stay-at-home-mum in a happy marriage living in a 3 bed detached house in a village cul-de-sac, someone who meets a guy abroad and has a whirlwind holiday romance… the endless lives I wanted to live were those in movies and books. I considered being an actress so that I could live all those lives for a short time, but what skill and confidence did I have to succeed? I wanted to be a writer or an artist, but lacked creativity and imagination – I would sit with a piece of paper and not know what to do with it, and look on the internet for inspiration. I went to an open day at an Arts University in case photography was my thing, but that didn’t work out due to funding.
I regretted the career choices I had made as a teenager. After spending my adolescence caring for my disabled sisters, I followed a path that made logical sense. I didn’t sit down and think about what I wanted to do, no matter how unrealistic it seemed. I went for stability, salary… not dreams or goals, not unpredictability. And now I had started to think about it two years after graduating, it seemed nearly impossible to start from scratch. I hit hurdles at every turn. Every option involved a massive salary decrease, and I wasn’t sure if that was something I was willing to sacrifice. All my monthly financial commitments were budgeted for my current income, and I didn’t know if I could risk trying to pay it all with less money.
Are you starting to get a feel for my frustration? My confusion? I’m sure you’ve felt lost too at some point in your life. It was like a game of chess, I just needed to figure out my next move. But it needed to be carefully planned.
As I write this, I am sat in bed in my dressing gown, listening to my dog bark at the cats, and my mum shout at my little sister. Some TV series that I’ve already watched twenty times is on in the background. I have the webpages up for local courses, job search pages and student finance. None of my friends can meet this week. I’ve been signed off work for two weeks by my doctor for exhaustion and I am waiting for blood test results. I phoned some local stables to arrange volunteer work but they can’t start me until next week, I want to be around horses again as I loved riding as a child. Devastatingly, I am too heavy to ride as all the nearby stables have a weight restriction. There goes another chunk of my self-esteem. I feel like that scene from Bridget Jones where she basically just drinks, cries and sings ballads at the top of her voice. I hope that writing all this down, like a blog entry monitoring my every move, it will give me the motivation to finally make something good happen. I need something exciting for the upcoming pages and posting it online might prompt me to finally make a change. Something worth writing about. Adventure, or romance, or a career change. Something inspiring, life-changing.

Right from the start - Part 1
I keep forgetting that when I meet new people, that they really don’t know much about me. who I am, where I am from, what I actually do, it goes way beyond simply painting a picture.. so this is hopefully will change that.
A bit of background to start with, I was quite artistic as a youngster, always copying cartoons, animals and seemed to exceed in projects that had that creative requirement. As much as I loved high school, I struggled in some academic subjects – I did well enough in my chosen subjects at  high school – apart from 1. Art! Yes, I FAILED art at GCSE level! I remember getting my results and checking for this one first. Gutted. What on earth was I going to do?? I was meant to hit a certain mark to be able to enter onto the GNVQ course that I had picked. This REALLY wasn’t meant to happen. Thankfully I did OK in my other subjects, I got a range of B’s C’s and a few D’s so at this point on paper I technically got onto the course with thanks to these marks and a good portfolio (lets touch back on this another time)
So fast forwarding a bit. Completing 4 years in total in college, 2 on a general art and design course, then 2 years following that specialised in fashion. I picked that because I really enjoyed life drawing, maybe it was an underlying natural instinct? it became apparent though that the sewing and pattern side of it was not my thing.. just hated it and wanted to simply draw. At the end of the final year in 1999 there was a place waiting for me at Salford University on a specialist fashion course. Turning it down was the best thing for me at that time, choosing instead to go full time as a store manager for a mobile phone company. This then progressed to customer services for a local transport company, then banking. During that time, not once did I touch my art supplies. Never. I kept all my work, and my box of equipment.
Here we land at 2012. Alot of time had passed in the world of being an employee, bought 2 houses, got married, started a family, holidays etc. The standard pattern I guess. 2012 marked the start of something. Change was happening – at the time it felt like everything was in a mess, at the end of 2011 I had major surgery and on leave from my job for 8 weeks, a job I loved and was a top performer. Coming back was hard, and it wasn’t how I left, new people, new policies and coupled with a massive issue legal issue that came in like an atomic bomb at home –  suddenly I was in a freefall that I couldn’t control. It was pretty obvious that there was a problem that needed to be fixed. How could it be fixed? I was so unhappy, so the obvious answer at the time was to look at training myself out of the role so that I could progress, settling on heading to university to get my degree in Business Management. Why that? why not. Maybe going into teaching could be a pathway? I applied to Manchester Metropolitan and got accepted as a mature student on a part time basis to start in the September of 2012.
Summer time 2012. Holiday time! We have 2 giant Labrador dogs and are treated like our children so we holiday in the UK in the main. On a shopping trip to an outlet village my daughter wanted a pair of sparkly shoes, sadly none were in her size. This was around the time that crystalisation was becoming popular so I thought ‘I can make them’ and picked up a much cheaper pair of high tops. When we arrived home went to a craft store to buy what I needed to do the job. That was that it, I made up the trainers – took me HOURS!! Showed them off with Ruby in them on social media and thought nothing more of it… until a friend suggested I could make a little side income from selling them? Back to the craft shop. A few weeks later, a chance conversation with a good friend in work happened. She was telling me how she had seen the trainers and could I do something for her son? He was mad for Spiderman. For some reason I said I could paint something onto hightops. The weird part is that I had never thought of it before, or even what dark recess of my head that particular idea  came from. Something was suddenly born. In spite of the awful time I was having this gave me a new focus. Little did I know what was coming next…..
It was at this point I was told to make a choice. Family, work, university or my fledgling hobby, which was attracting attention. Also at the same time I had my daughter starting school and changing my working pattern was essential. Painting on shoes was a thing, a thing I enjoyed! the reality was this was the end of my road as an employee. I chose to leave an incredibly well paid job in business banking with a company that I had been with for nearly 10 years. As of end November 2012 I was officially unemployed and ready to start a new journey.
i’m going to leave this here for now. There is way more to this story.

The Friday Rant: Even A Broken Clock Is Right Twice A Day
TorontoRealtyBlog
When I was taking my real estate courses in 2003, an older, wiser friend of mine said, “You’re picking a baaaaaaad time to get into the business, buddy!  The market is about to crash!  What are you gonna do when prices drop fifty percent?”
The average Toronto home price is up 148% since then.
I’ve heard nothing but talk about the collapse, and the bubble, since then, and prices have done nothing but go up.
On Wednesday, BMO’s chief economists said that we’re “in a bubble,” and like many before him he may very well prove to be wrong.
Let’s look at his comments, and examine whether or not his economic fundamentals are still applicable in 2017…
Do you know the difference between theory and practice?
You should.
It’s an important one.
When I was in business school at the turn of the millennium, all I wanted was some practice.
I couldn’t stand the theory anymore.  It was all we had ever learned in school up to that point.
Half of “doing well” in high school was simply memorizing.
French?  Pfff.  That’s memorizing words for a test.
Math?  Yeah, it’s not easy, but it’s all theoretical, and as most kids lament, you’re not very likely to use trigonometry or draw parabola’s out there in the real world.
Science?  More memorizing, until you get to chemistry, then it’s just more math.
When I was in fourth year university, I took a course called “Securities Analysis.”
Call me naive, but I thought we might actually, you know, analyze some securities.
In the end, all we did, was more math; more theory.  We didn’t once open the newspaper to look at stock quotes, nor did we ever even mention “Research in Motion” or “Nortel.”
I eventually put all my theory to good use.
I remember when the first X-Box came out in December of 2001, I figured it would be a hot item, and there would be a shortage.  Simple supply and demand.
So I spent $5,000 on X-Box’s, games, controllers, et al, (ten packages at $500 per) and started hocking them to consumers around North America on a new website called “E-Bay.”
Low-and-behold, when some guy in California couldn’t get an X-Box for his kid for Christmas, he was willing to pay five-times the retail price, so long as it arrived at his doorstep before December 24th.
All my friends at school were busy memorizing for their next test…
Another parallel, to where I’m going with this today, can be found in a soliloquy by the great Robin Williams in the movie Good Will Hunting:
You’re just a kid.  Yon’t don’t have the faintest idea what you’re talking about.  You’ve never been out of Boston.  So if I asked you about art, you could probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written.  Michelangelo; you know a lot about him.  Life’s work, political aspirations, him and the Pope, sexual orientation, the whole works, right?  But I bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel.  You’ve never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling.
Well folks, I think there are a lot of “experts” on the Toronto real estate market, who have never been out of Boston, and who have read a lot of art books, but have never stared up at the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel.
This occurred to me a couple weeks ago when I was having lunch with an impromptu sort of “networking group” downtown.  Just a group of guys who meet once in a while to chat.
One of the gentlemen is, as you may have guessed, an economist.
I sat across the table from him, and knowing I was a real estate agent, we never really met eyes.  I felt like he was gearing up for something, and eventually, he let loose with his thoughts on the Toronto market.
It was the same stuff we’ve been hearing for a decade; same stats, same metrics, same rhetoric.
I heard him out, and I gave him his fair shot to talk.
And when I didn’t really offer anything in response, he was somewhat surprised.
We continued chatting, and at one point I mentioned that I had recently lost an offer on a townhouse where there were double-digit bids, on Carr Street.
He then said, “Where’s that?”
I couldn’t believe it.
In my mind, I can picture every nook and cranny of the Carr Street townhouse complex.  I know it like the back of my hand.
I said, “You’re not exactly Google Maps are you,” and he went on the offensive.
“I don’t need to know real estate, to know about real estate,” he said.
“And if I told you I had a loft listing coming up at the Robert Watson Lofts on Sorauren Avenue next week, and it’s going to get double-digit bids, what would you say to that?” I asked him, not looking for a confrontation, but rather some clarification.
Proud as could be, he told me, “I don’t have the faintest idea where that is.”
And that’s when I realized that so many of these “expert” economists are simply looking at the market in theory, and they’re completely out of practice.
On Wednesday, BMO’s chief economist, Douglas Porter, gave us the following quote:
“Everyone may have a slightly different definition of what a bubble is, but most can agree it’s when prices become dangerously detached from economic fundamentals and start rising strongly simply because people believe they will keep rising strongly, encouraging more buying.”
Now I’m not going to slag this guy.  He’s doing his job.  And he’s been around.
You can Google him and check out his LinkedIn profile.  Welcome to 2017.
He has a Masters in Economics.  That’s impressive, and he’s probably incredibly intelligent, far smarter than I am, and having risen to chief economist at BMO, he’s a rockstar in that profession.
But does he know where the Robert Watson Lofts are?
And does he know that last night, there were 28 bids on a 1-bed-plus-den, 1-bath condo at 75 Portland Street?  Does he know where Portland Street is?  Does he know the demographic of the area?
I want to break down two parts of that quote, and tell you why I think economists are looking at our market the wrong way.
The first part is about “economic fundamentals.”
I honestly do believe that in 2017, and in this market, the “economic fundamentals” are misplaced.
There are two measures, and two so-called economic fundamentals in particular, that I speak of.
The first, is “debt-to-income ratio.”
Canada’s debt-to-income ratio is floating somewhere around 170%, give or take.
That means, on average, for every $1 Canadians make, they owe $1.70.
But to use this metric to suggest a real estate collapse is near, is completely misguided.
Why?
Because it doesn’t come in two ratios: one for home-owners, and one for non-home owners.
Excuse the generalizations here, folks.  But the guy making $2,000,000 per year and owning a house in Rosedale doesn’t have $3,400,000 in personal debt.
In fact, the guy-and-gal who bought a semi-detached house on Glebeholme Boulevard and make a combined $160,000 per year in income don’t have $272,000 in personal debt.
But the poor schmo with the crappy-paying job?  Yes, he has mounds of personal debt.  And he will never own a home.
To apply the overall debt-to-income ratio to the housing market, and allowing people to draw the inference that buyers of a $900,000 house, making $120,000 per year, also have $204,000 in debt is so misleading!  And that’s what I feel many experts, economists, and market bears do when they say, “Canada’s average debt-to-income ratio is 170%, this isn’t good for the real estate market.”
The second economic fundamental I want to look at is the ratio, or the comparison, of average income to average home price.
Many people have pointed out on my blog before that real estate prices should no longer be tied to incomes, and I couldn’t agree more.
It makes sense, in theory.  And there’s that word again.
But in practice, you’re assuming that buyers of Canadian real estate use Canadian income; their own Canadian income, and that’s not true in 2017 for two reasons.
1) The foreign buying in Toronto is massive.  I’ve never seen anything like it thus far in 2017.
2) Business at “The Bank of Mom & Dad” is booming.
So to look at the average Canadian salary and the average Canadian home price, and suggest that “The real estate market is unsustainable because these two averages aren’t increasing in tandem,” completely ignores the change in both society, and the world today.
This isn’t a planet, it’s a globe.
And global buyers are out all day, every day.
There’s so much money floating around the world, looking for a place to land, and much of it right now is landing in Toronto.
So when you look at how much money an average Canadian makes, how is that any way applicable when you’re not asking how many tens of millions a family from Hong Kong has to buy houses in Lawrence Park and keep them vacant for the next two decades?
And how many 60-something year-olds lament, “My child can’t afford to buy a property in this market,” and then write a cheque for $100,000?
How can we look at how much money an average Canadian makes in relation to average real estate prices, without considering how much money the average buyer gets from their parents?
That whole “increase in average incomes should run in tandem with increase in average real estate prices” is an idea that made sense in the 1960’s, but in 2017, you can throw it right out the window.
The second part of Mr. Porter’s quote I want to look at is the following:  “Prices start rising strongly simply because people believe they will keep rising.”
This is known as The Greater Fool Theory, and is applicable in any market where the only reason people buy at such high prices is because they believe that prices will continue to grow even higher.
But is that the true “reason” for buying in Toronto?
Because I don’t think it is.
You might point out that I just said foreign investors were buying up property in Toronto, and as investors, they must think prices will rise.  Yes, they do.  But many of these buyers are looking for generational wealth.  They’re buying properties to set up their children’s children.  These are not flippers.  They are not fly-by-nighters.  They’re not buying hundreds of acres of farm land in Orangeville so they can build a McDonald’s drive-thru.  They’re keeping this property long term.
So yes, they think prices will continue to rise, but they’re not buying in 2017 to sell in 2019.  That is the Greater Fool Theory.
And what of the domestic buyers?
What of John & Kathy?
John & Kathy aren’t buying “because they believe prices will continue to grow higher,” but rather because they’re looking for a place to raise their family for the next 15 years before they reassess if they can move up, or move on.
Do you think that 28 bidders for that property at 75 Portland Street were looking to keep it as a really, really low-yield, cash-flow-negative, $865,000 investment property?  Or do you think they were young people, with money from their parents, looking for a place to live?
If net migration in Toronto (which is probably near an all time high both with larger immigration numbers as well as inter-Provincial migration) continues to fall well behind housing completions, then every passing year, the deficit grows larger and larger.
I just don’t know if economists and “experts” know what’s really going on out there.
I would love for them to get in the trenches, and see what it’s like.
I would love for BMO’s chief economist to pretend he’s a 27-year-old trying to carve a path in this city, and go out to look for a townhouse.  Spend some time fighting to get through the front door on a Thursday night with three other sets of buyers.  I would love for him to scour MLS, every day, looking for housing options, only to come up empty.  I would love for him to make offer, after offer, after offer, losing to other buyers who have lost before that.
I would just love to see some original thought, instead of “It’s too hot, it has to end.”
Because we’ve been hearing that for so long, that it’s lost all meaning.
And if economists are going to continue to talk about debt-to-income ratios and average incomes in relation to average real estate prices, then they may as well go home and use a VHS cassette to tape a program on Netflix…
