Arranged Pt 2
Yandere Gilbert Blythe x reader
I only write sfw, feel free to make requests. Thank you for asking!! Kinda short and not proof read. Enjoy :)
I love you..." his voice rings in your ears.
"You're so beautiful..." his words make your skin crawl.
"Are you listening?" You have no choice.
From the moment your mother made you let him in to the note on the school board to shuffling down the isle this morning, you were miserable.
Possibly the only enjoyable part of this was seeing how proud your mother was the whole way through. She had fixed up her old wedding dress and fitted it to you. She made you up like a doll for the ceremony. And as your father walked you down the isle you could see tears falling from her eyes. He was so happy. It would have been discomforting if you had thought too much into it though.
Gilbert stared in astonishment as you walked down the aisle in the church. When you arrived at the altar you wanted so badly to repeat the same actions as  Prissy had. Run out of the church and into the field. But you couldn't bring yourself to do it.
After the ceremony the reception was held. Your family and friends all told stories of both you and Gilbert- which were very much exaggerated for the occasion.
Anne had written a poem, Josey made a few snide comments, Ruby talked up every interaction you'd had with Gilbert as if she hadn't been in love with him just a year ago.
It all made you so sick that you couldn't even swallow your food.
Finally you were here. In Gilbert's home. Bash in the room next door caring for his baby, and Gilbert hugging you from behind, his face in the crook of your neck.
"Are you listening Y/N?" He repeats, giving your body a small squeeze. You nod, tears sliding down your cheeks and over your nose. "I'm sorry..." he takes a deep breath.
"For what?" You ask, knowing the answer. He'd done this countless of times in the last few months. Apologizing but never changing.
"I want you to be happy..." you don't respond. It's easier to tune him out. "I'm aware you didn't want thus marriage..." you've fought him every step of the way on this. "So I'm sorry for forcing this onto you..." he's not sorry. He's quite right happy with himself. "But I do love you." The tears begin streaming down your face. "and I'll make sure you're happy. We can have a happy little family- if you want!" He stutters a bit. "We don't have to have kids if you don't want any. It's up to you." He thinks for a second. "It could just be us- and Bash and Delphine, of course."
This isn't love, to you. It's possession. It's kidnapping. It's grotesque and disgusting. Love is supposed to be flowery and sweet.
Maybe you could've had a real romance if Gilbert had approached you correctly; Walked up to you in class, talked to you about your day, invited you over for a nice meal and took your wants and needs into consideration. But that's not what he did. He went to your parents, who gave him his guaranteed spouse. It was as if nothing you thought or felt mattered.
"I love you, Y/N..." he leans over and kisses you on the cheek. "You don't have to say it back." Then reaches over and blows out the candle.
You rub your eyes dry and your cheek raw.

"Cause I see sparks fly, whenever you smile" (Chapter 3)
Tumblr media
After S3
Pairings: Anne Shirley-Cuthbert x Gilbert Blythe
CHAPTER 3
Anne’s POV
Anne stepped out onto the platform and looked around.
She was back home and simply couldn’t wait to return to Green Gables and see Matthew and Marilla again.
Gilbert would be staying back home with Bash and Delphine, but all of them would be coming over for dinner tonight.
Gilbert grabbed the bags off of the train and looked around.
“Bash should be here any moment now.” He said, watching the road, as Anne wrapped her arm around his.
They waited for a bit, and after what had seemed like ages, Bash finally turned around the corner.
“Gilbert!” He exclaimed, hopping off of the cart and pulling Gilbert into a bone-crushing hug.                “How you been?” He didn’t wait for an answer though, and turned to Anne, giving her a hug as well.
Gilbert picked up the bags and tossed them into the cart. “ C’mon, let’s go.” He helped Anne up into the cart before climbing up himself.
“How is Delphine, Bash?” Anne asked, turning to him.
“She has grown much since you last saw her!” he said, smiling at the thought of his young daughter. “ She can even say a few words!”
“Oh, I simply cannot wait to see her again!” Anne exclaimed. She watched the green foliage that passed by them and couldn’t help but remember the first time she had come to Avonlea, on this very same path, as they passed the Lake of Shining Waters.
“It’s truly wonderful to be back in Avonlea!”
They passed through the White Way of Delight, which was bursting with blossoms, and as they drove near the coast, she could hear the crashing of the sea waves. Now, she felt as if she was truly home.
Gilbert’s POV
Gilbert was overjoyed to be back home.
He had missed Avonlea, but the reason that he had been so excited was that it meant that he and Anne could spend more time together, after spending months apart, only keeping in touch through the long letters, which seemed like they arrived after an eternity.
Now, as they neared Green Gables, he thought of the times when they were younger when Anne had first moved here.
Gilbert hadn’t realized it when he was younger, but he had been smitten with Anne since the moment he first saw her in those woods that morning before school.
He helped Anne get down from the cart, before taking her bags out.
“Do you want me to carry them for you?” He asked her, hoping not to waste even a minute apart from her.
“No, I am quite capable of myself.” She replied, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
He watched as she ran, clutching her suitcase, with her hair blowing behind her.
“See you later!” she yelled, giving him a quick smile before she knocked on the door.
Gilbert smiled, as he knew things would be different now that they were back home.
ok, so haven't been posting updates for a loooooong time. I apologize, schoolwork got the best of me. This chapter is pretty short, but I promise to update more often now that summer is starting

May our darling Anne love this, almost as much as you
Tumblr media
Pairings: Gilbert Blythe + Anne Shirley
Summary: Gilbert accompanied Anne to Charlottetown as she went to Halifax to find out about her parents. Slight alternative if Anne never had time to change back into her regular dress.
Tumblr media
After Anne had found out the truth about her parents (they had died from a fever, weeks apart, when she was just 3 months old, and that her parents fled from Scotland - the home of the redheads).
She had to quickly catch the ferry back to Prince Edward Island, and with that running slightly late - it set everything back, as she quickly hurried to Aunt Josephine's.
"Why, Anne, my dear. You should have been back 20 minutes ago!" Aunt Jo exclaimed after Rollings opened the door to a slightly out of breath Anne.
"Aunt Jo! I'm so sorry, the ferry left the island late, and I don't have time to go exchange my clothes," Anne apologised, making Jo shake her head.
"Cole, fetch Anne's clothes down," Aunt Jo called, taking Anne's hands in hers. "There is nothing to be sorry for, dear. This is the way that the cards have fallen," Aunt Jo told her, as Cole came running down with the satchel that Anne left behind.
Cole reached over and faffed with one of Anne's curls which had come loose from when she was running. "Take the horse, you need to get her on the train, quickly," Aunt Jo said, making Anne and Cole nod and rush after Rollings - who was surprisingly quick for his age.
Tumblr media
Anne sat in front of Cole as they rushed to the train station as quickly as Lady Di (its name given by Anne, in honour of her bosom friend, Diana).
When they got there, Cole quickly jumped off and helped Anne down (as she struggled with her current state of dress).
They got onto the platform, Gilbert was already on the train, waiting for Anne.
Cole handed the bag over to the redhead. "It will not matter to Aunt Josephine when it comes back. But, you look gorgeous, dear Anne," Cole complimented her, making a flush of pink run up her cheeks. She had gotten very few compliments throughout her short life.
"Thank you, Cole," Anne smiled, reaching up and pressing a sweet kiss to his cheek. "Expect a letter in due time," she gave a small curtsey, making him laugh, and she hurried on the train.
Tumblr media
Despite spending some of the afternoon in Winifried's company, he sat by the window, fiddling with a purple flower.
This is when he saw Anne rushing onto the platform, Cole McKenzie behind her, holding the small satchel she had this morning.
The dress she was wearing was gorgeous! The green dress fitted her perfectly - however, thinking about it, she could be wearing a corset that he'd heard dreaded things about.
He watched Cole hand over the satchel, and say something to Anne. This resulted in the young man getting a kiss on his cheek (near enough the same place she hit him with her slate when he first met her).
He lifted his fingers and run them over where the bump had been, it was probably obvious to anyone that he was completely smitten with Anne. She owned the key to his heart, there was no one else for him!
Looking down at the flower between his fingers, he didn't know who he was kidding, moving on from Anne? It was physically and mentally impossible! He would love her to his dying day. If she told him she loved him the day before he passes, he would be the happiest man on the face of the earth.
She quickly boarded the train, waving to Cole and taking her seat next to him.
Tumblr media
Anne could tell that Gilbert was staring at her out of the corner of her eye, probably wondering what in heaven on earth she was wearing.
"Don't say a word," she stated, waving at Cole as the train left Charlottetown Station, heading back to Avonlea. "We must go to yours, so I can change. Marilla will have my head if she sees me like this," Anne said, setting her bag on her lap (which made a surprising thud).
This made both Gilbert and Anne's faces scrunch up. A gentle hand in her bag and Anne pulled out a well-loved copy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. When she opened the first page, written there, in handwriting similar to hers:
My Walter, One day, may our darling Anne love this tale, almost as much as you do. Forever yours, Your Bertha.
Anne ran her fingers over the handwriting, this was something that was handed between her mother and father - and it made her smile.
Anne gasped as she looked at the date her mother had written down. "Look at the date," Anne pointed, "It was written just weeks before I was born," It made her smile and held it to her heart.
This made Gilbert smile, it was nice that Anne had another piece added to her puzzle over who her parents were.
Tumblr media
Anne was grateful that Marilla, Matthew and Mrs Lynde weren't at the station. She breathed a sigh of relief and got off the train. They left the train station and saw the horse that Gilbert brought with him this morning still tied up - happily eating something from the trough.
Anne patted the horse's nose, as it nuzzled her happily. "Let's get going," Gilbert said, holding a hand out to Anne (she knew she would have to sit side-saddle - how a 'lady should sit'), and helped her up. He knew that she wouldn't need help, but it was the gentlemanly thing to do, that his father taught him to do.
He held onto the reigns, in a way he was keeping her 'safe' as well as stopping her from falling off Bessie. Gilbert clicked his tongue a couple of times. "Come on, Bess,"
Tumblr media
They arrived at the Blythe-Lacroix farm, Bash walking out with Delphine in his arms, gently rocking her and shushing her - she'd recently started teething.
Anne launched herself off the horse and landed on her feet perfectly (like she was a cat), as she turned round to smirk at Gilbert. "I'm no lady," she took her bag that was hanging from the side of Bessie and headed into the home.
"You," she pointed at Bash. "Never. Saw me dressed like this,"  she gave him a look, and he nodded. "Hello, Dellie," Anne cooed, running her finger along Delphine's cheek - making the baby squark happily.
She lifted one of Delphine's small fingers which had wrapped itself around one of hers tightly. Anne kissed it gently and gave Delphine a sweet smile.
"You can change in Mary's room," Bash told her, chocking up slightly at Mary won't be sleeping in her room anymore, and Gilbert sometimes sees Bash's room as his dad's room.
Anne smiles at Bash, reaching up and pressing a kiss to his cheek. She took her bag and went to change back into her usual clothes.
Bash gave Gilbert a look, and the young man waved him off. Taking Bessie back to the barn. "How am I going to tell Winifred? As much as I like her company, Anne owns my heart, ever since she smack me across the head with her slate," Gilbert laughed silently, rubbing Bessie's nose, as he started to feed her an apple. "Her parents are most likely going to kill me, but..." Gilbert trails off, before saying three words out loud for the first time. "I love Anne,"
A breeze surrounds Gilbert, as he looked out of the cut-out window of the barn to the sky. He smiled, taking it as silent approval from his father. 'You took your time, son,'
Tumblr media
Gilbert walked into his home, seeing Anne dressed in her usual brown dress and pinafore - even now, with her braids and usual clothes, she looks beautiful.
Delphine started crying again, and Bash followed one of the recipes that Anne had written out for Delphine. Gilbert started to walk over to his niece when Anne got there first. Reaching into the basket, and brought the baby to rest against her shoulder. Gently shushing her, rocking back and forth to soothe her.
Bash looked up from the vegetables he was cutting, smiling at the girl who would attend to Dellie's every cry. That is when he looked over at Gilbert and saw the look in his eyes. He'd heard his mother say once, 'When a boy is in love, you can see it in his eyes,'
He then looked over at Anne (after Gilbert picked up some of the garlic and started peeling it), and remember the other half of the saying he'd heard. 'When a girl is in love, you can see it in her smile,'.

AWAE 25 Days of Christmas Day 14: “What Child Is This”
“What child is this, who lay to rest,” Bash sang softly, pressing a kiss to both Mary and Dellie’s hair as he sat beside them. “On Mary’s lap is sleeping...”
“Shh, you’ll wake her,’ Mary hushed him, giggling. “She just closed her eyes.”
“Aren’t you a precious little angel,” Bash cooed at his daughter, tracing her tiny nose lightly. Dellie shifted slightly, grabbing her father’s finger as he tucked the blanket under her tighter, but the little girl didn’t wake.
“She got me, Mary,” Bash said solemnly, pretending to try and pull his finger away.
“She has you wrapped around her finger alright,” Mary shook her head, smiling fondly. She leaned against Bash’s shoulder, resting in the fire-lit room. When she closed her eyes, she could smell the pine from their christmas tree and the snow falling outside. She took a deep breath, breathing it all in. The smell of snow had always tickled her nose, even as a little girl.
“Gilbert went to bed already?” Mary asked, her eyes still closed.
“Yes indeed, claims to be exhausted from our Sunday supper with the Cuthberts,” Bash said.
“Hmmm, more like tired of you teasin’ him,” Mary chuckled. “The poor boy needs a break.”
“Well it’s his loss,” Bash shrugged, wrapping his arm around Mary and drawing her close. “Now I have you both all to myself. My two best girls.”
They sat there a while, holding their sleeping daughter under the Christmas tree, as the fire slowly pulled back into the embers. Bash was humming a christmas hymn quietly. Mary wasn’t sure he was even aware he was doing so.
“I never had a Christmas like this before,” Mary confessed. “Got a whole tree and decorations and everything. Back in the bog, we used to gather wreaths up from scrap material and branches, and tie them all together with whatever we found for decorations. Then on Boxing Day we would throw them on a huge bonfire, to send up our wishes for the new year.”
“In Trinidad, there was always a Masquerade Ball up at the main house,” Bash said. “All the rich folk had them. Meant Ma always had to work on Christmas, so we had our own special dinner on Boxing Day, when we could. There was always a special sweet for me afterwards, dusted in sugar. When I was younger, there used to be parties among the non-white folk as well; everyone had colorful beads and there would be drummers. But the British outlawed all that after the riots for freedom.”
“Bash,” Mary said quietly, her heart breaking for that hint of sorrow Bash always carried with him. Bash was a man who carried Trinidad’s pride on his heart, but he carried her sorrows too. It amazed Mary everyday how a man with such weight on him still had Bash’s optimism and light.
“We’ll have to carry on those traditions,” Mary said. “The beads and the wreaths, for Dellie, when she’s older. So she knows where she came from.”
“That, my angel, is a lovely idea,” Bash kissed the side of Mary’s head. “Would you like that, Dellie? Hmm?” He tickled her chin. Dellie wrinkled her nose, but her eyes stayed shut.
“I’ll put her to bed,” Bash offered, reaching for the baby, but Mary shook her head.
“We can wait a moment,” she suggested. “I just want a moment, to bask in this.”
It wasn’t the perfect Christmas. It couldn’t be, not when her son was so far away. But it was far better than Mary had ever dared dream for herself. A Christmas wish come true she hadn’t known she was making.

I want the fourth season of Anne with an e.
Not because of Anne and Gilbert or Muriel and Bash or anyone else, really. I mean I love them and they all deserve the best but what I really care about and I really need to see is Ka'kwet out of that horrible place. I can't stand knowing that that angel is still there.
I want a fourth season of Anne with an e for Ka'kwet.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Gilbert Blythe/Anne Shirley, mentions of Ruby Gillis/Moody Spurgeon
Characters: Anne Shirley, Sebastian "Bash" Lacroix (Anne with an E), Gilbert Blythe, Delphine Lacroix, Ruby Gillis, Cole MacKenzie, mentions of Moody Spurgeon, mentions of Mary Lacroix Additional Tags: theres no plot, Like, i cannot express to you how LITTLE plot there is, its plotless, also the ending is completely unhinged, maybe ill have an idea like fifteen years from now and change it, but probably not, i genuinely cannot believe that im posting this, anyway, this is BARELY a flower shop/tattoo parlour AU, i just snapped okay, its words. thats it, its just words floating in jelly, im sorry yall, legit tags time:, Begging, Vaginal Fingering, very brief vaginal sex, like the fic ends in the middle of it because i couldnt think of any other way to end it, im GENUINELY the worst Summary: She is holding three dark red dahlias (they are the colour of blood, Gilbert knows, because he is in college to be a doctor, and they stand out stark against the pale, unburnt skin of her hands) when she turns around, and Gilbert drops his eyes to the dozens of knuckle sized loops of wire he has made without really realizing it. He slides them off of his finger, wincing as the tightness of the wire pinches his skin.
She sets the flowers on the counter carefully, her fingers hovering in the space around them, like she wants to guard them, wants to protect every petal from the possibility of being crushed. It makes him think of the way that Mary waits, still, after putting Delphine down for a nap. She always freezes, letting her hands hang in the air halfway between herself and Delphines crib, waiting for the chance that her baby will reach out for her or startle awake and cry.
Gilbert is glad, momentarily, that there are people who care for flowers like that. Like they are more than blooms of colour, like there are uniquely cherishable aspects to each one that is not present in the next. He can see that type of caring in her.
-OR; Gilbert runs a flowershop that Anne visits once a week

When was the last time Gilbert was hugged like this?
I can't imagine how absolutely harrowing and painful it must have been to have to tell Mary about her prognosis. How emotionally and physically draining that conversation was, of course for Mary, but for Gilbert, as well.
I'm glad Anne was able to provide some comfort with words. But she did an even greater service to him by offering that hug.
I could almost hear her soul say to his: I am sorry. I know it hurts. But you are not alone. I won't let you be alone anymore.

Doctored
Prompt: Delphine gets the croup
---------------------------------------------------
It's fall again when Delphine gets sick. It started with a runny nose and a mild fever, which was nothing to worry about... Or so Gilbert thought. He wanted to take her to see doctor Ward, but he's gone to Halifax for the week to give a few lectures at the local University. Now he's running through the fields in the cold midnight air, the soil is damp so his feet keep getting stuck in it, slowing him down and making him stumble, but he doesn't care. His head is throbbing and he blames himself, he should've studied more about illnesses in children, especially when he's living with one. He will never forgive himself if anything happens to Delphine, he couldn't help Mary, but he'll do everything in his power to save her child. Lost in his thoughts he saw the outline of Green Gables, a place he considered his second home, not really because of the place, but because of the people that live in it. He knew he would always find help there, no matter what.
Gilbert knew going to town and fetching a doctor was pointless as he became quite acquainted with the ways of discrimination on Prince Edward Island. Anne was his only hope. She said she's worked with children for many years and he had hope, even though that fact was all he had to go on...
He stormed in through the front door, making his way upstairs to Anne's room without thinking, busting the door open. Anne woke up with a gasp, startled, a strand of her messy hair getting stuck in the frame of the bed. He felt it wasn't proper to run into her bedroom in the middle of the night like this, but this was a pressing matter and he knew Anne would understand that.
"Gilbert?" She exclaimed, sitting up. Before she could open her mouth to continue, Gilbert blurted out: "Delphine's sick."
"How sick?"
"I..I.. I don't know... It started as a cold but now she's hyperventilating and coughing constantly, it sounds almost as if she was..."
"Barking?" Anne looked in his eyes and he nodded, completely stunned.
"Anyway... I tried giving her some medicine–"
"Ipecac?" Anne asked hopefully. "Did you give her Ipecac?"
No. He felt stupid in that moment, it didn't even occur to him to check for Ipecac in the kitchen shelves.
He sucked in a sharp breath and she didn't ask any further questions, just jumped out of bed and began knocking on Matthew's and Marilla's doors. She left him there to explain, running downstairs and loudly searching through all cupboards, not wasting any time. He gave Marilla an apologetic look as Anne stopped near the stairs, small bottle in hand, and gestured for him to come down.
Anne ran straight for the stables and he followed right behind her, panting. He noticed she was still in her nightgown and didn't put anything on, so he wrapped his coat around her shoulders. She gave him a weak smile and put it on, however Gilbert was sure that under different circumstances she would've stubbornly whacked him over the head over such gesture.
She put a saddle on Belle and told him to get on. He gave her a bit of a side eye, knowing it wasn't suitable to ride with a lady who's not your wife or at least your bethrothed, but she just rolled her eyes and shoved him forward. She too mounted the horse, sitting down right in front of him. And so they rode... If he found himself sitting this way with her any other time, he'd probably have inappropriate thoughts, but he was too overcome with worry to even notice. Not long after they were standing at his doorstep, Gilbert was pacing back and forth as Anne was tying Belle's reins to his gate.
"Don't worry, Gil," she said. "I know what to do, Minnie May had the same thing a few years back."
Bash opened the front door, screaming Anne's name in relief and she ran inside, Gilbert rushing after her.
"Put the kettle on, we need hot water," she said to Bash, roaming through their drawers to find a spoon.
"Put her on your knees and hold her."
Gilbert nodded, doing as he was told, Anne poured Ipecac on the spoon and into Delly's mouth. Delphine didn't swallow everything, so Gilbert wiped the remains off her chin with his finger and put it in Delly's mouth. Anne gave him an approving look while tearing up one of his clothes and dipping it in warm water. She put the cloth on Delly's head and told him to lean her out the window so she could breathe cold air until the water boiled. Gilbert wasn't accustomed to this, not knowing how to help, but he was doing his best to thoroughly follow Anne's orders.
She looked at Bash: "Eucalyptus?"
When he shook his head she headed for the pantry and came out with a few onions, quickly cutting them up.
"Here," she gave them to Gilbert. "Put this in her socks."
He gave her a weird look but obeyed without further questions. She turned around: "Make sure you put it at the soles of her feet, okay?"
"Okay."
"The water's ready," Bash screamed and Anne ran over, pouring it into a bucket, which she put right next to Gilbert's feet.
"Give her to me."
Anne squatted down and put Delly on her knees, making sure her head was right above the steam. Every breath she took sounded like a whistle... Then she started choking. Gilbert stood up abruptly, ready to panic, but Anne dismissed it.
"This is good. Bring me the cloth."
Putting the cloth on Delphine's mouth, Anne stared to pat and massage her back, until Delly coughed up a yellow substance.
It was all right.
Gilbert couldn't believe it.
Anne positioned Delly up on her knees and started rocking her, humming. He allowed himself to get lost in that sight, smiling like a fool.
"Is it over?" Bash asked.
"The worst part should be. I propose we give her some more Ipecac and put her to bed. I'll keep watch. But I firmly believe she's almost well."
He saw Bash collapse to the floor, covering his face with his hands, smiling. "Anne with an E, you are an angel sent from heaven..."
He heard Anne chuckle at that, standing up and smiling at Delly. She gave her over to him, but stayed close, her arms still interlaced with Gilbert's. For a moment they just kept smiling at Delphine, standing close enough to feel their breath bouncing off one another, until Anne caught herself and untangled herself from his arms. She took a step back, but gave him a supportive smile.
"Anyway..."
He felt the urge to repeat that word to her, just like he did three years ago, but stopped himself.
"You both should go to sleep. I'll stay awake with her... Make sure she's well."
Bash protested at first, but seeing as Delly's breathing got back to normal and her eyes were falling shut, he agreed to go to bed after he got to rock hos daughter to sleep. Anne sat down at the table, studying Mary's old spices. Gilbert went to wish Bash a Good night and they ended up sharing a few stories in his room. When he finally stepped into the hallway, Anne was going through their pantry.
She got startled at first when he came back to the kitchen, but then smiled at the sight of him.
"I thought you went to bed..." she said and he smirked, shaking his head. "I hope you don't mind, I thought I'd cook you something for breakfast. Bash is always complaining about your oatmeal, so I thought it'd be nice for you to change it up a little."
She turned away from him, ruffling through his cupboards and he couldn't help but grin.
"Bash was right."
"Huh?" She turned, leaning on the counter.
"You really are an angel sent from heaven."
She was shook by his words, frozen in place and her thoughts. He didn't mind. He went over to her and wrapped his hands around her torso in a tight hug. For a second he was worried she wasn't going to hug him back, but then he felt her arms twirl around his back. Right there, in that moment, he felt truly at home.
"You know sometimes," he said, thinking his words over. "Sometimes I can't believe you're real, Anne Shirley-Cuthbert."

Are any of y'all thinking that Gilbert may mistake Anne supporting him in his hour of need as LOVE ?
I really hope that Mary remains the focal point of conversations in Blythe-Lacoixe household, really don't want her to be mentioned in passing, like her presence must be felt even if Bash and Gilbert are trying to move on. I'm not fit to talk about Bash rn so Gilbert it is.
IMO Gilbert will be in an emotionally vulnerable place for the rest of the season, trying to cope with Mary's loss and the changes it brought to their family, it would wreck him from time to time. For a brief period of time, he may confide in Winifred- but they don't seem to be connected emotionally. So, that brings us to Anne.
Marilla, Matthew and Anne are going to be an unfailing support system for Bash and Gilbert and Delphine. From the way she understood his pain in 03×03; she will most likely be there for him. But the catch is - she thinks of him as a friend and only starting to see him as a kindred spirit, now that they are finding common ground and shared grief-- but not more than that. We know Anne-she has many problems of hers to sort out first and find herself, love is not something that's on her mind at the moment--it's her coming of age story after all.
Gilbert, at this point, has allowed himself to harbour romantic feelings for her. So, when he sees Anne being all caring and cognate, would he not perceive it has Anne finally coming to terms with what their relationship actually is in his mind. Remember he's vulnerable and lets his guard down for once. Stark contrast with the self-reliant Gilbert of past seasons.
So, Gilbert invites Miss Rose to the dance and they see each other for a while- he realizes it's not real- comes home- meets Anne- tells her how he feels in anticipation that she'll reciprocate since it's not subtle like the previous ones- Anne is rightfully shocked, faced with the dilemma to accept him when she clearly doesn't feel the same way(or with the same intensity) or to break his heart when he's in so much pain.
I think she'll break his heart like every other time because drama.
As much I don't want it to happen, it seems inevitable now that Matthew will be passing next. And Gilbert, however heart broken or angry he is, will be there by Anne's side. And we'll have come full circle.
I really really couldn't care less about clowning at this point- I've gained immunity lol-

First they gave us Marilla, Matthew and Anne and now they added Gilbert, Bash, Mary and Delphine ... my found-families-trope-loving heart is being fed so well!

Apple Picking
Tumblr media
Pairings: Gilbert Blythe + Anne Shirley
Summary: Young Delphine goes apple picking with Uncle Gilby and Auntie Anne. Years later, Gilbert and Anne go apple picking with two of their children.

By the time Delphine Lacroix was 4-years-old, it was obvious she could eventually rival the intelligence of her Uncle Gilby and Auntie Anne. By the time the young girl had learnt how to read, she had flown through the books that Elijah had read when he was young and whatever books that Auntie Constance and Auntie Jocelyn brought round from the Bog.
However, most of the books that Delphine read were ones that Gilbert and Anne got her (when Anne was able to visit every month from Redmond, and Gilbert often brings 3 or even 5 at a time when he visits from Toronto).
It was time for the summer harvest of the apples. Anne had promised Bash last week that she would come round to help Delphine with her spelling and handwriting (it was being obvious that the town wouldn't allow Dellie to get her education from school, and it made both Bash and Gilbert proud when Dellie would show off her achievements).

There was a knock at the door, and then Anne's head poked around the side. She sees Dellie with her nose in a book, and Gilbert sat beside her listening to her read allowed.
At the knock, Delphine looks up and turns her head. "Auntie Anne!" She dropped the book on the kitchen table and ran into Anne's arms. From over the top of Dellie's head, Anne saw Gilbert smiling at her - now 21, he had graduated from Toronto with his bachelor's degree and would be going to medical school in September for his doctorate. Anne had been able to go see him graduate with honours, as Dellie had sat on her hip as they happily cheered him walking across that stage.
"Hello, sweetheart," Anne pressed a kiss to the top of the girl's head. Gilbert walked over at pressed a kiss to Anne's cheek. "Hi, Gil," Anne smiled at him.
"Anne-girl," Gilbert replied, pulling the two girls in his life into a hug. Delphine let out a squeak in surprise, in reply to this - Gilbert reached down and lifted her into his arms. "Dellie has nearly finished her book, then we were going to go apple picking,"
After Gilbert had said this, Dellie's head spun around to look at Anne. A very wide grin forming on the little girl's face. "Auntie Anne come too!" She looked between the pair as if she was begging without words that Auntie Anne come with them to go apple picking in the orchard she'd grown up in.
Anne exchanged a smile with Gilbert over the top of Delphine's head. "I would be honoured, sweetie," Anne told the little girl, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

With the book Dellie had been reading, finished - Anne had made a small picnic for the trio when they got hungry during the picking.
When they were in the orchard, Gilbert had set his niece on his shoulders, so she could grab some of the apples from the trees. Anne smiled happily over at Gilbert and Delphine, as she held a crate for the apples to go in. She couldn't help but imagine a future with Gilbert when they could time away from the jobs that they would have and take their children to go apple picking in Gilbert's father's orchard. But that was a long way off yet. Gilbert hadn't even proposed!
Once the crate eventually got too heavy for Anne to hold, Gilbert lifted Dellie off his shoulders, gently setting her on the ground and took the crate from Anne's hands. Whilst he was separated from Anne currently, he had time to think about what he could see in his future with Anne - with a ring in one of his drawers in his bedroom, maybe if she would be okay to a long engagement while he was away at medical school?
He knew he could cope with waiting, but he had always told Bash that Anne was in control of how their relationship moved. He never wanted to push any of the boundaries with his darling Anne-girl, it would completely break his heart if he pushed her too far and she left him. There is nobody else for him but her.

3 years after Gilbert had graduated from medical school, Jem and Walter stood at 2 and 1 respectively, with and being pregnant once more (Gilbert seemed to think that Anne was pregnant with twins, considering she was 'larger' than her previous 3 pregnancies).
Gilbert was able to take some time away from his practice to spend time with his family in Avonlea. They hadn't told Marilla or Bash (Anne knew Marilla's eyesight wasn't what it used to be, and she relied on the help of the LaCroix's and the Baynard's after Matthew passed) that they were coming to visit.
The four arrived at the train station, as many people clambered around Gilbert - happy to see the 'golden boy' back in the town. Anne rolled her eyes and moved the boys away from the crowd of people around their father.

They arrived at Green Gables when Marilla poked her head around commonly used door and a smile brightened her face (Anne could see the curtain-twitching in the kitchen, which suggested that Rachel was watching them).
"Anne! Gilbert!" She smiled, rushing over as quickly as she could to greet her adoptive daughter, her son-in-law and her precious grandbabies. "Jem, Walter!" Marilla watched as Gilbert lifted the two little boys from the cart and they rushed over to their grandma.
Marilla wrapped her arms around her grandsons, as Gilbert and Anne walk over gently, Gilbert's arm was wrapped around her lower back. The older woman smiled at the married couple, she couldn't help but think Matthew, Anne's birth parents and Gilbert's parents were proud of the pair for finding each other in the end.
"Anne," Marilla smiled, reaching over and wrapped her arms around her little girl. Even though Anne was no longer living at Green Gables and had a family of her own - she would still the small 13-year-old who turned up on her doorstep by accident.
"Hi, Marilla," Anne smiles, her head nuzzling into Marilla's shoulder.

The day after they arrived (after visiting Bash and Delphine), they went to help with the harvest in the orchard.
It was a similar scene to how it was when they took Dellie apple picking. Walter was cradled in Anne's arms, with Jem sat on Gilbert's shoulders - helping his father collect the apples.
Bash and Marilla were watching from the window of the house, with smiles on their faces.
"They got their happy ending after all," Bash says, his hand resting on Marilla's shoulder - they had known each other for so long (thanks to Anne and Gilbert) that this kind of touching was accepted by Marilla.
"Didn't they just," Marilla replied, they had a silent chuckle together, as a grown Delphine walked into the house, having just arrived back from town. She gave a wide smile (similar to the one when she was a baby, and a replica of Mary's), and looked where they were looking.
"Aunt Anne and Uncle Gilbert are here?" She asks, despite being a grown lady, she will always calm them her 'aunt' and 'uncle'. A second look into the orchard showed that little Jem and Walter were with them
