Time was almost up. Clarke knew it; it was almost like she had a timer in her head. She sat alone, bandaging superficial injuries and waiting. She’d found her target. Hand on her gun, she’d almost killed them. She could’ve. She’d wanted to. Even knowing she’d come back, she didn’t want to die. But she already had so many regrets in her life. How many innocent people had she killed already? She didn’t want to add another. Anyway, if she died she’d lose her memory, and would that really be so bad? Clarke finished dressing her wounds and picked up the gun, looking it over. She could end it now, and get rid of the waiting. That was the worst part. She could make it quick, maybe even painless… She shook her head, shutting her eyes and sinking into a chair. Exhausted but stubborn as ever. Clarke would not give this city the satisfaction. “I’m not doing it,” she muttered to the empty room, shoving the gun away. “You want me dead? Kill me yourself.” She thought about what she had said all those years ago. Maybe life should be about more than just surviving. The words of a younger, more naive version of herself, and yet…

I like Kon and Clark having a complicated (but caring) relationship. Clark messing up with Kon at first adds a lot of interesting plot. And all the things that happened because of misunderstandings. Characters having flaws is important or else they’d be boring. However the flaws need to not be totally out of character because Clark is NOT abusive, he’s just in his own head and wigged out about certain aspects of Kon’s creation. Plus coming back to all that after dying is a lot to process and I can see why Clark swerved to try and avoid it instead.

yeah generally i tend to explain it as that clark genuinely does not fuckin know what all is going on with kon. part of that is avoidance but also just... he is dealing with a lot.

but also, like. imagine you went through something incredibly traumatic. the next day someone shows up at your doorstep like hey. so there's a kid we made using a sample of your tissue without your consent, like, last week. would you immediately go "oh shit, i have custody of this child now"? i really doubt it. especially if that kid is a teenager who says nah i have people in my corner, im okay on my own, thanks though but byeee!

clark (and kon) are both absolutely characters with flaws. i agree it's boring otherwise. but i really don't think this situation is like... on clark. it's tragic and unfortunate all around but it's not his fault yk?

Gotta tell you how much I love the 2x11 radio talk between Clarke and Bell and especially how she says “You came through, I knew you would.” it’s both a statement and an apology for what happened before when she said it’s a risk worth taking for him to go in there, it’s also a praise at how proud she is of him that he actually managed to do it.

My soul won’t rest till I put my feelings about that Bellarke scene in words (Believe me I tried to fight it) Bellamy could’ve been at any number on that list. He could’ve been the first, the second, the fifty-fourth… But no. He was the last one Clarke chose. Interesting, huh? (Can we apply this to her love life as well? This is a conversation for another time, tho) Before she writes his name down, she genuinely considers it. Why? When Bellamy mentioned he wouldn’t be inside, Clarke took a strong position in denial. Her body language and tone of voice showed she couldn’t even accept his idea. It’s almost life their S2 roles reversed. There, Bellamy is clearly broken when she leaves, tries to change her mind, but ultimately, accepts her choice. Based on all the effort he did to bring Clarke back, I think it’s safe to assume that he wishes she’d stayed. Here, Clarke at first refuses to let him sacrifice himself, but then tries to see the logic in it and/of respect his decision. She can’t. When you’re making the list with The Head, choosing the first ones is, in my opinion, easier. You get the survivors, the skilled, those whose abilities are primarily needed and, very important, those likely to accept the magnitude of that sacrifice. Things to notice: 1. Bellamy is canon! done with sacrificing people. 2. Bellamy is a hot headed, heart driven man and his behavior under such super stressful situations is unpredictable (canon again aka mostly of S3A). 3. Bellamy literally abnegated his place. There’s only one logical solution, right? Until she looks to the fort they’re building and then right back at him, comfortable and asleep. Now, at the last names, every choice weights more; for one you pick, there’s another you deny the right to live. If she chooses him she’s killing somebody else. But once she gets the pen, her writing is steady with no signs of hesitation at all. This is the right choice. She can’t sign Bellamy Blake’s death sentence. Clarke believes in Bellamy, forgives him of his sins and accepts his flaws. He can’t die.  

What really, really breaks me is the moment right after. When she realizes she can’t do the same for herself, that she won’t be around him and they won’t be together at this one too. Clarke completely breaks down because she wants to live. After Bellamy’s name is written, she puts the pen there to write her own. But she doesn’t think she’s allowed to. Bellamy wakes up with the sound of her sobs and he doesn’t hesitate to present them as equals. “If I’m on that list, you’re on that list” is “we’re together. Both of us have done terrible things and if you think I deserve to live, then so do you”. This is offering forgiveness without saying, this is his attempt to bring her back again. After two failed times, he’s learnt his lesson. “Write it down or I will” is “I know you need forgiveness and I already gave you that, but can you forgive yourself?” It’s beautiful and heartbreaking that she refuses to save herself but allows him to do so. Because she trusts his judgement, respects him and she knows they’ll be better as a team. Clarke looks up to him (”What now?”) and Bellamy, doyouseethecharacterdevelopment, is the one keeping her centered and providing her the most important thing: hope. Back in s1, Bellamy inspired the masses and Clarke inspired him - to do better, to believe in himself. Now, Clarke tries to inspire them but she’s lost… until he’s there. AND THE HAND NUZZLE. He’s literally massaging her shoulder and it’s so intimate, gentle, safe and soft at the same time. It’s what Clarke needs at the moment, although not necessarily what she wants; she craves more of him and his touch and his skin and this intimacy. But Bellamy again offers what she needs: “get some sleep”. It’s caring, she needs a break and he knows it. I think Bellamy has no idea of how deeply Clarke needs him and he steers away because it’s the best thing for them both. She’s hurt and confused and let’s just not mess things up more. The irony: she wanted him to stay. When you follow someone with your eyes like she did… Imo he didn’t actually want either, he lingers his hand on her shoulder after she takes off hers and gives her one last check to see if she’s okay… Honestly they’re killing me. End of story: he reassured her like she needed, gave her hope and… strength. Clarke is often a badass and she speaks like she’s sure of what to do. Around Bellamy she lets it go. Everyone’s always telling how much Bellamy opens up with her but hey can we talk about she’s not afraid to rely on him?  This draft is here since Thursday and idk if it’s still relevant but whatever. This slow burn will be the death of me.
