In Baldur’s Gate, Dragons Dungeon You! | Art Master Post

An SPN/D&D mashup that can be read on its own or part of the greater series The Way Things Ought to Be.

On a quiet afternoon a week shy of Christmas, Dean is interrupted while poking through the news for a case. Someone is pounding on the Bunker door. After a brief huddle with Sam and Castiel, they investigate to find Charlie on the other side, a box of books at her feet. She needs to use their archive for research and a place to stay while she does it. Of course, she's always welcome at the Bunker. And when Dean discovers her trove of Dungeons & Dragons books, she offers to run a quick campaign.

But the mysteries aren’t just in Candleekeep. Charlie seems to have one of her own. Except no one can put their finger on it. The campaign unravels--along with Charlie’s secrets--as she tells the story of The Scrivener’s Tale.

Chapter 2 - Inferno Galore

Dean stopped at the top of the stairs to the kitchen and leaned over the threshold. “Hey, library, now.”

Castiel slumped at the kitchen table, his head hung low over a book. Sam sat opposite him, equally engrossed in a tome bigger than his gigantic head, and together they shot him an identically irritated look.

“What’s going on?” Castiel asked when Dean said nothing else. “The lasagna will be done soon—”

“Great, bring it to the library,” Dean insisted. “Got a surprise.”

“A good surprise, I’m guessing?” Sam asked as he stood.

“Yeah, c’mon.”

Sam gathered a stack of plates and utensils when Castiel darted across the kitchen to open the oven. Steaming lasagna set Dean to salivating, and his stomach rumbled. Shit. Lunch. He’d forgotten. He could hardly remember the last time he had even binged anything. But forgetting a meal? He’d never done that. Hell, the last time he'd skipped out on food, it had been intentional, and it was so Sam could eat. But to just... forget?

“Is Eileen here?” he asked, ignoring the thought. Worse, the implications. Gross.

Arms full, Sam and Castiel climbed the stairs and fell into step with Dean as he strode down the hallway. “She’s in the library,” Sam said. “What’s got you in such a good… is that a Dungeons & Dragons book?”

He showed it to them. “We’re gonna play.”

“And I’m the nerd,” Sam retorted as they strode up the stairs into the war room. “You really think we’ll—”

“You carry a bag of dice? All the time?”

Dean snapped his attention to the library where Eileen and Charlie stood. The nearest table was already littered with books, papers, pencils, and tiny, clear boxes containing dice of varying sizes, shapes, and colors. Eileen gripped a leather drawstring bag and rattled it as she signed. “Look who’s talking.”

“Yeah, but I’m a dungeon master,” Charlie said as she half signed.

“Dungeon Master,” Eileen said as she corrected Charlie’s signing. “This means something different,” she added. “Unless…”

“No, I definitely meant Dungeon Master, not…” Charlie quieted when she spotted Dean hopping up the stairs. “Looks like we’re just missing Jack?”

“Hello.”

Charlie squawked as Jack appeared on the other side of the table. After a breath, she said, “I suppose I should have expected that.”

Dean tossed a side-eyed glare at Castiel. “He gets it from his dad.”

“Which one?” Castiel retorted.

“The one that could teleport, obviously.” Dean pointed to the table. “Never mind. Just… take a seat. I think we owe ourselves a little break from the rat race.” He began handing out dishes and utensils. “Wait,” he said, pausing. “Can we… eat while we play?”

Charlie seized the plate he held and dug into the lasagna. “Hell yes.”

Sam dropped into a chair and pulled a plate towards him. “I’m giving this one shot tonight,” he said. “If I catch even a hint of elf sex, I’m out.”

“What’s wrong with elves?” Charlie asked.

This ought to be good. “Yeah, Sam?” Dean asked as he sat opposite him near the end of the table. “Do you have something against elves?”

Sam’s sharp glare stabbed straight through him. “Tell me the difference between an Eladrin, a High Elf, a Night Elf, a Wood Elf, a Lothlorian Elf, and a Mirkwood Elf.”

“I… they’re—well, wood elves live in the…” He darted a look at Charlie. “... woods.”

Charlie retrieved a tall stack of books and dropped them on the table with a resounding thud. “It’s a bullshit question!”

“Charlie!” Sam squawked.

“C’mon, Sam,” she pleaded. “At least make a character and get through the intro?”

He snatched up a blank character sheet and a pencil. “Alright, alright…” When Sam considered the form, he balked. “So how do we do this? Do we just… pick some numbers and go?”

For the first time since she had arrived, the old Charlie, the one Dean knew, appeared. Her wide smile stretched, crinkling the corners of her eyes, positively giddy.

“What?”

She shook her head and waved him off. “Nothing. I love this part.” Reverently, she pulled the Player’s Handguide to her and hefted it. “I like to think of the sort of character I’d wanna play. I’ve created stealthy thieves and charming spellcasters. I’ve played devout, holy warriors and loveable, himbo berzerkers. Once you have an idea, then you can fit that into a race and a class.”

A bipedal bull on the cover of a nearby book caught Dean’s attention. The beast howled a silent yet barbaric yawp, jaw dropped wide, and spittle flinging from its tusks as he charged a cowering group of puny humans. “So what if I wanted to play that guy? He looks badass.”

Charlie’s cackling laughter burst from her mouth. “You would want to play the minotaur.”

“C’mon, he could kick the shit out of anything,” Dean insisted. “Who wouldn’t want that?”

She waved him off and nodded through her lingering giggles. “You’re absolutely right and you can absolutely play a minotaur. But don’t forget that fighting is only a small part of D&D. There’s espionage and investigations and subterfuge. Character interactions are incredibly important. Might want to keep that in mind when you’re designing this kick-ass minotaur.”

Investigations, huh? “So he’s still gotta be smart then. Like, street smarts.”

“Sure,” she said. “There’s really no limit. You want your character to be strong, so you’d put quite a few points in Strength. But if you want him to be smart about the way he fights, you’d put some points into Wisdom, too. And if he’s going to be in the thick of things, you want him to have a lot of hit points, so you’d put a bunch of points into Constitution. Dexterity, while important, is less so for the burly fighter, so you wouldn’t invest any points there.”

Dean considered his empty character sheet, then turned to Castiel and Jack. The two argued under their breath, hissing like a pair of snakes. Castiel gesticulated insistently at the books on the table, and Jack kept shaking his head. “What are you two getting into a pissing match over?”

As though caught with his hand in the cookie jar again, Castiel froze. “It’s… we are discussing strategy.”

Strategy? Already? But their character sheets were blank. “Spill the beans.”

Castiel deferred to Jack. “I suggested that I play a cleric of sorts, someone that can heal and provide benefits during not only combat but investigations as well.” Dean caught Charlie’s inquisitive smirk and understanding nod when Jack paused. “However,” he continued, “Castiel insisted that he could manage the healing on his own if he played a paladin. That frees me up to play something else.”

“Huh,” Charlie mused, nodding in approval. “It’s a legitimate strategy.”

He should have known a game like Dungeons & Dragons would come naturally to Castiel and Jack. “The two of you know how to play then?”

“It is… a system that functions not unlike the wars I fought as an angel,” Castiel agreed. “So yes. We know how to ‘play’.”

“Figures,” Dean huffed. “Alright so if Cas is gonna play himself, then what are the rest of you thinking?”

“You know what I’ve found fun?” Charlie began. “Creating the exact character you want to play, then learning who everyone else is in the first session. Which means no more table talk.” She shot a look at Castiel and Jack, then opened the campaign book. “The only advice I’ll give you is that the beginning of this story is heavy on intrigue and non-violent intrapersonal communication. You’ll be starting at level fourteen. Don’t worry about where you are at the moment, but do come up with a background or past. I’ll work it all in.”

Sam’s crooked grin hinted at far too much while giving away too little. Beside him, Eileen had opened a book and already filled in half her character sheet. And Castiel had, indeed, put his own name in the space reserved for his character’s name, but had included an archetype: Oath of the Crown.

With that inspiration, Dean started on his own character. Strength and Wisdom, Charlie had suggested. And keep Constitution in mind. After a few questions clarified the point-buying system she had mentioned, Charlie left them to their devices, and Dean lost himself in his imagination.

Minotaur. Strong, yet tactical. Able to withstand pressure for prolonged periods. And as far as minotaurs went, he wasn’t half bad to look at, either. Respectable past, a loyal soldier, but left the ranks for adventuring. And with a bit of digging, he had spun a tale convincing enough for Charlie: Dean insisted his character knew Castiel’s paladin from their days as soldiers of the Crown. Whatever “the Crown” was.

“I’ll allow it,” Charlie had said.

At the top of the hour, Dean held in hand a full character sheet, complete with a fancy sword, a stout shield, custom-fitted mithril plate, and a sweet pair of winged boots to increase his movement speed. While he scanned the page, he caught sight of Charlie in the middle distance, out of focus and otherwise unsuspecting. Except Charlie's presence had always stood out. She never just faded into the background. And yet, she had slouched down into her chair so far she was damn near about to fall out of it.

“You okay?”

Glassy eyes widened, clarity refocusing her stare. She glanced at the others, then straightened when she turned to Dean. “Yeah, just tired. Been a long two days.”

“We can finish this tomorrow—”

“No!” she hissed a little too loud and clamped a hand over her mouth. Her eyes swept the table, and when it was clear that no one but Dean paid her any mind, she continued. “No, I want to play. It’s a good distraction. I need it.”

“Okay.” Dean leaned across the corner of the table and reached to soothe her, rubbing her back. “You know you can ask if you need anything.”

“I do,” she sighed. “What I need most right now is this. I promise, Dean, I’m fine, don’t give me that look.”

“What look?”

Charlie flattened her glare. “That look.”

“Alright, alright.” After a reassuring squeeze of her shoulder, he leaned back in his chair. One last look at his character sheet shifted his attention. “Is this it? We ready?”

Charlie scanned the table, and a small smile crooked the corner of her lips. Whatever relief she clung to ended there, her smile falling well short of her eyes again. “Yeah. Gimme a few minutes to read over your characters and I’ll be ready.”

Happiest Day AU

Who are we?

We are two adult nerd artists and close friends who are passionate about fnaf, its lore and bastard rats with issues and have a knack for angsty redemption arc stories :D

You can find our respective art on instagram under the usernames chubs_deuce (me, Lucie - she/her) and aestheticallytrashyart (Olivia - they/them)!

What is this AU about?

This AU will be about a slightly canon-divergent alternate timeline to fnaf, where William will - after some confrontations - end up seeking a means of redeeming himself for his crimes. Henry, Michael and Charlie aka the Marionette/Puppet alongside Cassidy will play key roles in his development and each get development themselves too. It's going to be a long and rocky road with no guarantee of success. - we may love us a good redemption arc, but we won't pull punches, this is a child serial killer we're talking about after all.

Small note: while we've done plenty of research to keep this story as compliant to canon as we can despite the intentional creative liberties that make this an AU, we will not factor in information from the Fazbear Frights books on account of neither of us having read them. Any similarities between their stories and ours are coincidental and any contradictions entirely unintentional.

Synopsis: Enya Arati, a half-breed of dragon and human, seeks revenge for her murdered family. She flees from her hometown Trevena and travels through the magical forest Avni, the high mountains of Zaltana and even the ocean in search of other dragon-borns. Humans, elafids, dwarfs, giants, satyrs and magical beings like faeries, elves, witches, and mages either help her or hunt her down. Will she get her revenge and set Trevena on fire? Or will her girlfriend, the siren Meara Kailani, help her forgive and chose a different path?

when did you join tumblr and why?: 2014, aka fifth grade. probably not my best decision but i like where i ended up. i joined because i wanted to look at content about my favorite cartoons :-)

what does your heart/soul yearn for: to love and be loved. to forgive sincerely and always somehow. to care for and be cared for. to live a happy simple complicated silly little life n hopefully make it better for someone. so far it seems i’ve got it down !
