Bye Sweet Carole is a horrific thriller inspired by great animated movies. The game is created by Chris Darril. The game is developed by Little Sewing Machine and published by Just For Games.

"Young Lana Benton, urged by the terrifying Mr. Kyn, also known as “Old Hat,” finds herself catapulted into a mysterious enchanted garden to deal with menacing and disturbing creatures. After discovering a number of letters from a certain “French,” Lana decides to follow the last known trail of Carole Simmons, a girl of the same age who apparently escaped from Bunny Hall, an orphanage in the nineteenth century. Publisher Just For Games and developer Little Sewing Machine, an Italian studio founded by Remothered creator Chris Darril, have announced “thrilling horror adventure” game Bye Sweet Carole for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It will launch in 2024.

“For his new project, the author of the Remothered horror series went for an art direction inspired by the greatest animation films,” reads the press release. “The stunning visuals will support the incredible adventures of the main character, Lana Benton, in her quest to uncover the truth about the mysterious Carole Simmons’ disappearance.”

For all of you lovely Clock Tower/psychological/survival horror nerds who might not know about Remothered

Several years back, an Italian artist named Chris Darril had started work on a remake/spiritual successor to the original Clock Tower. I ran across it pretty accidentally on YouTube and it gave me the intrigued creeps hard. That early version was sadly scrapped and the videos have unfortunately been taken down, but it was one of the creepiest things, brimming with an unsettling atmosphere.

I can't put into words just how effective the art, animation, and sound was at creating a strong, I-don-t-wanna-sleep-tonight discomfort, but here's some screenshots:

Although that spooky work of art never got finished, they did continue revamping and working on their spiritual successor, and Remothered: Tormented Fathers was eventually released to PC and consoles:

If you're sad about that gorgeous 2D version getting scrapped, take a gander at how good the trailer for Tormented Fathers looks and you may feel better. Good to see survival and psychological horror games are still alive and well.
